Reviews of The Horn of Plenty

Lovely little pub. Only criticism is the back corner light bulb could do with changing from hospital white to a warmer colour like the rest of the bulbs. No other criticisms at all!

The pub quizzes on Tuesday nights are excellent. It's obvious Alice, who writes them, spends a lot of time thinking of interesting questions across a variety of subjects. This isn't 50 questions she bangs out in half an hour. The staff are awesome as is the beer selection. Their food used to be great too but currently they don't offer any - but you can order delivery. Highly recommended.
N. C.
Love the quiz! Great new Indian food that’s budget friendly. Lovely bar staff too

🍺 Pravha £5.40
🥘 Roast £15.50
❤️ My Daughter moved to Bow last year and I did what any good Father would do and that’s take her to the pub for a good old roast dinner. I did a bit of homework and heard some great things about the @bonethugsbbq roast dinners at The Horn of Plenty. The pub is easy to get to and just a two minute walk from Stepney Green tube. You enter through a corner entrance which I love as you can suss out a pub very quickly and work out where there’s a space at the bar or somewhere to sit. It was fairly busy but I didn’t have to wait too long to be served, however I was advised to book a table for dinner in advance due to how busy it can get. The price for drinks were about right, so no complaints there, I must say that the two staff behind the bar were great and nothing was too much bother throughout our time here. The decor here is “Shabby Chic” which makes you feel comfortable along with the nice atmosphere here, you feel right at home. So on to the main event, the roast. I had the pork and duck confit roast which I haven’t seen before, my better half had the beef and my daughter had the lamb all of which got plenty of smiles and nods as we munched away. The portion sizes were very generous and we really struggled to finish.

There are are a 101 reasons to visit a boozer, this visit was to spend a nice afternoon with the family and The Horn of Plenty did us proud.

Pretty good pub with a decent beer selection. Mostly a student crowd and Indian dhosa/pakoras on the menu rather that the usual pub grub.
D. L.
Fabulous pub with great artwork adorning the walls
B. O.
The pub is only been open for 3 months . And it's The first time visiting this place and I found it quite pleasant good Atmosphere and a good selection of Craft Beers. They also advertise live music .? Worth a visit .(✯ᴗ✯) Neatest station Stepney green .

Great pub. Looks and smells like a real one. No food on but the Pale ale was right there. Good friendly atmosphere and nice bar staff.
J. P.
My local; lovely people, dog friendly, cosy, great jukebox, amazing food currently (curry and roti from ex Roti King chefs popup)
P. C.
Very friendly staff and just an all round brilliant independent pub with lots of character and charm. It's important we keep these places alive.
L. S.
Great Indian food and nice staff. Plus, we made a dog friend :)
M. J.
My new local, and what a lovely one! Great local beers and very friendly staff.
O. P.
Great pub! Great beer selection and amazing staff.
Love that the food menu rotates to so you don’t get board of the same food.
T. G.
Great East end Boozer! Lovely roasts, they do a vegetarian one too! 😀 Nice staff too.
N. d. P.
Great local. New Tamil kitchen - good value food and tasty.
A. T.
A nice locals pub. Close to Stepney Green tube, but West End prices sadly 😥. 5.70 a lager, when it's 3.80 a pint 5 minutes away. Still worth a visit though.
J. W.
Good service, great food, highly recommend.
L. Z.
Awesome Sunday roasts, good range of tap beers and friendly service! Good choice!
J. B.
Love this place! One of the best pubs in the east end and infinitely better than it used to be under the old management. It actually looks like a proper pub inside (sadly, the same can't now be said for some of the other pubs in the area), has a great selection of drinks and the staff are lovely. It's a bit of a hidden gem just off the main road in an area that isn't blessed with too many decent drinking options. The food here is also excellent - the dub fries are immense!
E. P.
Favourite little spot near my home. Great selection of craft beers. Cool and quirky decor inside. Shows football as well which is a bonus. Fun pub quiz on Tuesdays as well!
D. S.
Expensive, and someone said a proper East End pub - is that a joke? It's full of chattering middle class peeps - who have gentrified much of the East End now. That's not a complaint, just an observation. Personally I like my local (I live about 30 seconds away) to be a bit more spit 'n' sawdust/working class, but I must try their Sunday Roasts, I don't mind remortgaging the house...just messin'... Very friendly bar staff the couple of times I have been in..... :o)
G. G.
A friendly local pub - good range of beers, including 3 gluten free last I went in, free comedy night once a month, warm atmosphere. Only downside is the furniture is a bit crammed in sometimes - less is more, perhaps? And the meaty food looks nice but the veggie options are always a bit meh.
H. K.
What do you say for the cozy and warm place that provides you with the elixir of happiness after work? AWESOME staff, beautiful rustic/retro decor, lots of things going on mid-week (eg quiz night), great selection of ales. The chef changes every fortnight, so the variety of food is very welcoming! Definitely the best pub in the area!
G.
Beautiful friendly corner pub. Makes you forget you're in Stepney green. Sunday roast was delicious. They don't normally do takeaways but let me borrow some plates as I lived nearby. It's hard to find good customer service these days and always appreciate when a business goes out of their way to try to help the customer. Only wished they opened during weekday lunch as they would give the half moon some needed competition. Just read the one star review, I'm not a hipster and still love this place. One star for a word on the menu when she admitted the place looked great, seriously?
J. C.
Great pub with a good selection of beers, wine and spirits. Staff are friendly and food great. Also getting the chance to play rock paper scissors to possibly get drinks for half price was fun even if I didn't win
K. L.
Awesome place and staff were really friendly
T. S.
Tucked away pub, just off Mile End Road, which will give you a nice break from everything that comes with a big, busy road. Good selection of beers, friendly staff and generous menu (more then one vegan option!). Also, the fact that there's no music in this place makes it the perfect spot for conversations - without yelling!
M. K.
I always love stopping by this classic little pub. The range of drinks available is one of the best in Whitechapel, with a nice rotating selection of.craft lagers. There's a pretty good kitchen too, sending out tasty bar snacks and full meals too. Some nights you can play rock, paper, scissors for a chance at a free pint!
Ú. K.
Came in not really expecting much and was quite frankly blown away.
The atmosphere was very chilled on this sunday afternoon. Came in at around 1700, cricket was on the display screen, small crowd watching an having a normal talk amongst themselves. Other patrons casually watching. Board games in the corner made for a nice time whilst we waited for our food, we played uno. Scrabble, cludo, battleship, question boxes from trivial pursuit were in a large supply as well as a fair few other games i cannot recall at this time.
Food was Amazing.
We ordered lamb and chicken and got an absolute treat. Both were done to perfection, a large yorkshire pudding (also done really well), warm red cabbage was a treat. The gravy needs a special mention as well. I honestly cannot praise the food enough.
Staff was also quite pleasant.

East End pub with tons of charm and really friendly staff. Great selection of drinks and a fantastic kitchen - I would recommend the Sunday Roast. Decent variety of events going on through the week as well!
J. H.
A friendly, slightly scruffy, undemanding local which serves a good selection of drinks to a pleasant, relaxed clientele. As a visitor you are welcomed and soon feel at home. A really nice community pub.

"Where everybody knows your name"......... well, they're open to knowing your name. Nice friendly atmosphere. A real neighbourhood pub which is neither old man, nor hipster trendy. You can actually hold a conversation. Can you imagine that?

Lovely pub, a far cry from its shady former self. Great selection of beers and games to pass the time. Big screen for sports. Always very welcoming.
J. M.
Very quirky pub, currently number 2 on our list of best sunday Roasts out of 10, would be number 1 but we've had some little hiccups with burnt food. Overall would still recommend!
A. B.
Traditional British pub. Good for hanging out and chat over a pint.
J. W.
This is a good place although gets crazy busy on Fridays so get there earlier if you want to eat/get a table.
My only gripe about the place is the range of draft beer is v limited, but the friendly staff and good atmosphere make up for it.
J. T.
I've lived in Stepney a good few years now, and the only thing it has lacked during that time is a decent boozer. Well that has now changed. In its previous incarnation, unless you were a fan of terrible decor, terrible music and terrible alcohol or perhaps just craved a regular punch-up, The Horn Of Plenty was very much a place to avoid. Quite the opposite can now be said. The staff are friendly and welcoming and have created warm and inclusive vibe that makes everyone who walks through the door feel like a regular even if it's their first visit. There's an excellent selection of beers and the food is top notch. The subs are superb and the burger is up there with the best I've had in London. So what are you waiting for? Slap on some face-powder and get yourself down there...

Such a breath of fresh air to find a pub that caters for all needs still popping about in the East End. Some fantastic staff work here, always polite, always ready to help as best as they can. its this type of service that gives it it's vibe.
G.
The food is a little expensive, but very tasty, Definitely do try the goats cheese bun and the fried chicken wings. If you are a dog lover, you will difinitely like this place, since a many dog-owners frequent this place. If you are a student, they have discounts on drinks and food on certain times of the week.
M.
Lovely pub, friendly staff and great atmosphere. Decent selection of drinks. The new kitchen residency serves ridiculous good roast. Well worth a visit!
L. T.
Nice low key pub, with good selection of craft ales, also a far cry from the madding crowds of another chain public house, food available changes residency, a range of different nights on, also shows sporting events
M. G.
Great pub, great staff, great food. My one gripe would be that they only have HSB bitter on draft and it's hard to get more than a couple of pints down as it's so strong flavoured, Howsabout getting Spitfire or even London Pride (as they used to) back on draft?
D. B.
I go in from time to time. Always a very relaxed atmosphere, good beer, friendly vibe with a good mix of customers. One of the best best bars in East London (in my opinion).
E. C.
Agree with other reviewers - good neighborly atmosphere, friendly bar staff, good mix of ages etc in the crowd. (We didn't eat there so cannot comment on meals).
S. M.
Great locals pub - the food is amazing too, I had bbq ribs while my girlfriend had a roast. They truly cater for all here!
L. M.
The quiz night is excellent, great fun. The pub is quaint but a bit trendy, it has a nice atmosphere. It’s a quiet pub, just what I like.
G. F.
"Where everybody knows your name"......... well, they're open to knowing your name. Nice friendly atmosphere. A real neighbourhood pub which is neither old man, nor hipster trendy. You can actually hold a conversation. Can you imagine that?
A. M.
One of my favourite pubs in London, really nice vibe, nice beer, nice staff, nice pub quiz on a Tuesday and nice food they rotate every six months or so
L. B.
Fairly small space, one or two good beers, always seems to have sports on. The staff are friendly. Toilets definitely need a refurb.
M. H.
Nice and quiet local pub away from the busy road. They do Quiz on Tuesdays. Looking forward to trying their Sunday roast!
M. H.
Brilliant pub, great atmosphere. Feels cool without being pretentious. Staff are really friendly. Prices are reasonable and the selection is great.
J. B.
A nice place to come after work. Between 6 and 7 you can play "Rock, Paper, Scissors" with the bar staff and if you beat them, you get your round for half price.
A. R.
£5 curry on a Wednesday?!
H. C.
Great local pub, something on almost every night as well. Best pub quiz around on Tuesday nights. Staff are all absolutely lovely
D. F.
What is not to like about this boozer? Nothing, that's what. Located within a solid cover drive's distance of Stepney Green station, this East End pub has been transformed under new ownership. Friendly staff, a warm atmosphere, excellent food (the dub sub is great (mate) pub grub), a wide range of quality beers and the pièce de résistance: the weekly Tuesday night quiz which makes Jeremy Paxman weep with envy. Investigate without delay.
T.
Small quiet pub on the corner. Perfect for stopping in for one or many pints. Good range of beers for consumption. Food looks good from afar.
E. F.
Best pub in the area. Good food (with decent vegan options), board games, and Beat the Barman on a Friday night.
a. s.
Our favourite hang out after work. Brilliant staff; amazing atmosphere and rock paper scissors on a Friday for half price drinks!
M. P.
Why is it so difficult to find a place that can be bothered to serve veggie gravy? We also deserve a juicy roast on a Sunday. The cheerfulness of the stuff almost made up for this.
J. N.
Awesome pub with friendly bartenders, great meat pies, and a large beer selection. They have trivia on Tuesdays
D. J.
Solid local pub with good beer selection, fun quiz night, and excellent roasts on Sunday.
