Reviews of The Ivy House
G. B.
Beautiful old pub, great staff, could not ask for a better time or food. Were there for the pub quiz which was legendary!!!
S. T.
One of the best pubs in London. Some of the best chips in the world. I just wish they were 100% gluten free ☺️
D. E.
A great session pub (music beer and atmosphere are all 5*)
Just don't get excited about the Sunday roast! (A small leg of chicken! Or 2 thin slices of beef)
I would be happy to pay more if they upped their game on the food front!
D. W.
Excellent pub. Saw some live music there as well (on a Saturday night I think), which was really great.
D. L.
Went specially for the Sunday Roast so not too impressed, but the pub itself was nice.
One of the few, maybe only, community owned pubs in London. Live band playing in the back lead to a nice atmosphere in the front room.
Sunday Roast wasn’t to our tastes. Meat was cooked well but was a tad chewy, accompaniments not up to scratch - the potatoes hard, pickled cabbage interesting, no stuffing, and the gravy too light.
D. P.
Great venue for a small music event, good atmosphere. Maybe could have had a few more bar staff on due to the size of the crowd but everyone formed an orderly queue for the drinks
S. M.
2019. Attended a friends 70th, a full on performance, good wo e and food. I ordered the vegan stew, absolutely delicious. Nice to be back, such a warm and wekcoming place, great staff team, attentive and helpful.
Such a wonderful little gem. I have been to a couple events here over the last two years.
It does have a good selection of beers and spirits, and a pub menu.
It has a stage and plenty of seating, good place to hire for all sorts of events.
I really enjoy the community atmosphere.
A. M.
Excellent community run pub with a great range of well kept cask and keg beers, all fairly priced. Music venue as well. Recommended.
L. S.
Great local pub! Good sunday roasts, nice beer selection, friendly staff. Can't ask for more really!
p. m.
Great food and the staff is very friendly and very professional. We really liked it. Ohhhh and the music was very good.
B. T.
Great atmosphere, fantastic beer selection, roast on Sunday is fantastic. Dog friendly too
L.
Exceptional staff, really they go above and beyond and are kind, respectful and diligent. It was clean, sanitisers everywhere. Food and drink was also really good!! 👌🏼👌🏼
A. D.
Excellent local pub, nice fire going, tasty beer and cool staff.
C. R.
Excellent pub with good range of beers. Ordering online for restrictions works well (and you don't need to download an app so that's a plus) - team are all friendly and helpful. Covered outside seating all waterproof so great experience all round.
I. A.
One of my favourite winter boozers with a super great beer selection. Love the fact that it is community owned.
C. G. J.
Versatile space with friendly staff and delicious pub grub.
I've been here a couple of times, first for a film night and then again for a meal and left very satisfied both times. They even had still cider on tap! A rare treat for a londoner. I spied quite a few events happening at the pub, film nights, quizzes, live music and I'll be going back for one of their regular yoga classes.
C. P.
Went there lunchtime a great pub. I had the fries with the Hot and Dirty sauce, delicious! Really nice. They have loads of entertainment at this place really worth checking out.
c. e.
Lovely local pub with a friendly atmosphere. Tasty Sunday roast (there was meat and vegetarian option) for 5 adults and 3 small children followed by wonderful musical performance by a talented 16 piece band!
M. W.
Excellent to have a fresh pint after all this time with extremely nice, courteous staff. Great to have a co-op pub in the local area too. The building is excellent and down-to-earth and I hear the food is nice.
M. H.
One of my favourite ever pubs! Full of lovely people and good energy.
P. H.
While the infernal pandemic prevents us going inside, the Ivy House have lots of outside seating at the front. Very welcoming table staff, a menu full of fab pizzas, and the usual range of good (mostly craft keg) beers. Looking forward to returning when indoor entertainment resumes this summer.
A. B.
Great beer, great pub grub and fantastic service. This is a pub that has so much in the way of entertainment and that it really does care about it's customers. Can't wait for covid restrictions to ease so it can be what it's always been...a community hub of fun and entertainment
A. N.
Great community pub. Good beer, great events, friendly staff.
K. G.
Lovely community pub with great beer and a real traditional feel, nice staff too. Fantastic.
T. C.
I actually can’t believe how good this pub is. After moving to the area just before the pandemic, I’ve gone past it so many times and not thought anything of it, but when you go inside it’s incredible. Super friendly staff, amazing booze, a perfect table service app and beautiful interior.
I will be back, I will drink baby Guinness, I will tell everyone to go here! ❤️
M. L.
Reasonable enough pub but £5 for a pint of ale.
O. B.
LOVE this pub! I don't go out to pubs very much (even when there's not a pandemic on!) but when I heard they were doing takeaway beer I decided to support them a bit more and now get all my beer from here instead of a conventional shop. (draught beer's always better in my opinion) The beer is always in the peak of condition and I've never had a bad pint!
RECOMMENDED!
S. T.
Haven't been to the Ivy House this year but can't wait to visit again. The only downside to this place is that it's so popular you often struggle to get a seat. Have seen some lovely gigs here too. Staff are great fun to chat to.
L. B.
Great pub, great beer selection good atmosphere

Great pub with strong community ties

Sunday jazz made my weekend.
A. G.
The service was really polite. They had a good online table service system that worked seamlessly. The tables were well spaced, and very clean. Beer and food were all good, and decently priced. I'll be back. Booking is recommended, but not essential.
Z.
Quite nice atmosphere
s. b.
Fantastic pub, great atmosphere.
Staff very friendly, great service.
Well worth a visit.....
L. M.
Lovely vibes, reasonable prices and community run!
V. N. P.
I am told that the pub is run by a co-ownership of locals, what a beautiful project. The events and live music is a fantastic touch to the place. Adding the pleasant and friendly service you can definitely enjoy a pint here.
M. B.
A diamond in the rough.
There aren't many community pubs around but this one feels and looks like a textbook example. A real welcoming and community vibe. Everything from the great selection of drinks and proper home cook food as well as the extensive events calendar makes this feel like a vein of the community runs through every aspect of this pub.
Some people may find this a little too rough round the edges but I think it keeps the place honest.
M. C.
What a pub! Proper, traditional pub atmosphere, and a friendly, welcoming vibe. The beer selection is really good and being community-owned, there are lots of activities going on. I've been along for the open mic night on Monday and definitely recommend it.
G. B.
One of London's greatest pubs, and as you can imagine, that's up against some pretty tough competition. What's great about it? It's community owned, so the money doesn't disappear off into the pockets of 'investors'. Great choice of beers, always changing, always well kept. Food here was great. A refreshingly bulls*t free drinking experience.
F.
A quirky pub with an unpretentious, accept anyone attitude.
The beer selection was fine, the decor was fine, it smelled a little like stale urine (normal for any pub worth its salt).
This place stood out for the welcoming atmosphere, something you cannot manufacture.
s.
Very cosy place, quite expensive though. Used to be my local for a while. Very good events there also and great atmosphere with wood paneling.
J. H.
Love this community-owned pub. Great vibes with the big band performing on Sunday
J. B.
Many fond memories of coming here for friends parties. An absolutely enormous pub with a stage and three separate function rooms. But be warned, when it's packed it can get stiflingly hot. Great staff though and a small gem of south London music history.
J.
Excellent local pub and has nice rooms for rent too. Live music program there as well. Drinks were very reasonably priced and good size. Gluten free dessert available!
A. M.
Lovely community pub. Lovely traditional interior and nice outdoor area . Staff nice. Good adherence to social distancing regs as well. Ordered pizza, which was nice also.
P. D.
Absolutely banging, community owned and locally run pub. Always a fine selection of independent beverages. Live music in the back room on many nights of the week. Child and dog friendly. A real gem.
P. B. (.
Power to the people.!
This pub was rescued from property development after local people raised the finance to purchase the freehold.
I've been here several times to meet friends for a quiet drink and for attend private functions in their large meeting room.
I think it's a nice friendly place.
D. B.
This pub is so welcoming, everyone says it has great beers and food, that's a given. It's the fact that the community, the people who live nearby use it, support it and love it as its their own pub. The bands are great especially the blues night, it's free and wow do the bands deliver!
M. D.
My local, and a lovely one at that, being a community owned pub it definitely has that feel about it, everyone welcome. There's always things going on in the back room, whether it's yoga, comedy, music or otherwise. That does mean that sometimes there's a tight space if you want to sit indoors, but on a fine day there's the beer garden and the benches out front. Good selection of beers on tap, and plenty of craft ones too, including a fridge full of various bottled varities. Definitely pop in!
V. V.
Great acoustics, spacious live room, additional room on the other side of the bar. Lovely staff, absolutely fantastic live sound engineer Andrew. Downside - smells of old pub really bad... But one gets used to it after an hour or so.
T. Q.
Great Sunday lunch at good value too, if you find yourself here on a Sunday you may be lucky to see some jazz. Been to many events here and will do for many more! Recommend the Brockley ales they always have in tap! Family and dog friendly too!
S.
Good roast with lovely crispy roast potatoes which you can also get by the bowl with gravy. Live band, kids and dogs welcome, what's not to love? unless you hate kids, dogs, music and good food.
R. S. (.
Great place for lockdown takeaway beers. They serve draft in 4 pint containers and plastic glasses. Love the cloud water!
P. M.
Friendly, old fashioned, no nonsense boozer, so popular with locals that the street party spilled into the pub. Good vibes,,decent and reasonably priced bar drinks and grub. Rare to find in London. In summary, a secret gem.

D. W.
Really nice and welcoming pub, the food is nice and wholesome. They accommodated our family turning up for a wake (without prior notice) and the venue was just perfect. I returned a few days later for a burger and it was very tasty! Worth a visit for any reason, even a coffee stop.
N. M.
Nice bar, with outdoor space that allowed for Covid safe catch-up.with friends and good pizza!
A. H.
Brilliant food, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff what's not to love?
B. C.
Amazing community owned pub, great beer and top quality pizzas, a real asset to the area.
S. S.
Great local and worth visiting from afar to see a band on the stage
v.

Nice old fashioned pub with a decent ale and beer selection, they also have lots of events going on so worth subscribing to their newsletter online. Good atmosphere and a good venue for a night out.
D. W.
Really top pub. I'd been meaning to visit for ages, having read good reviews - finally got round to it, and was really impressed. Dog friendly, loads of choice on the beer front and an all round good atmosphere!
S. M.
A hidden gem, one of the better pubs in South. Excellent selection, very friendly, helpful staff and really reasonably priced, we were there when there happened to be a wedding reception going on and it was beautiful.
C. P.
Local pub with 3 big rooms, a couple of tables on the front and a small (yet to be developed to its potential) back garden. Lots of stuff on regularly. Saw there is some heated discussion going on with management on zero hour contracts but don't know much more about the back story.
F. H.
Community owned pub. Great staff and service.
Amazing selection on draft.
P. C.
Great pub.....very friendly bar staff.....plenty going on in this community owned and run pub.......food is good but can be a bit basic and small menu.......a very large selection of ales and cinders from local brewers......
D. F.
Recommended by friends and we and the dog were made very welcome. Great atmosphere, great band and a fantastic lamb roast dinner before braving the freezing cold outside.. Almost didn't want to leave!
T. R.
Welcoming atmosphere, unique arts and crafts decor, wide variety of comfortable seating, extensive beer garden (with rain cover!), lovely staff, big range of beers, proper espresso machine, and a historic showcase-sized venue with decent lighting and a great PA. What's not to like?
S. J.
Lovely community run pub. Good food, good wine, very friendly staff. Often a lively party going on in one of the rooms. Allows dogs. Lovely garden.
S. K.
Lovely people, great pizza, cute rear garden and a brilliant small events space.
N. P.
Historic co-op owned local with lots of interesting beers and a stage for live events. Only downside was the almost complete lack of vegan and even vegetarian choice at the buffet. Masses of meat but vegans were limited to crudités, homous and possiblity the dry biscuits may have been vegan. A pity.
D. C.
A beautiful pub with bags of old-school charm and an always-impressive line-up of beer. Misses out on full marks since the food is only ever decent, never great.
A. R.
High standard of jazz this evening - a tribute to Cedar Walton. Good menu and excellent real ale. Rare to find all this in a pub with an affordable ticket price. A real gem for jazz fans.
B. C.
Amazing community owned pub, great beer and top quality pizzas, a real asset to the area.
J. N.
Community owned pub (I own a share). Great vibe, food, drink.
E. M.
Fantasric pub and concert venue.
Great choice of drinks for wines, beers (according to partner) and soft drinks.
I liked the intimate concert venue and the fact that you can access the main bar from the concert venue.
T. B.
This place was called The Newlands way back and was one of south Londons few pub rock venues (most of the big ones were north of the river). Great to see it still thriving after all these years and being run as a community pub.
N. W.
London's first co-op pub. Good selection of beers, lovely pub food, friendly, open fires, a live room with a picturesque stage that people like Wilko have played on. I might go there right now actually.
E. H.
Large community owned pub. Friendly staff. Good food, including an outdoor BBQ some days. Comfy sofas in this back, and a stage for live performances.
E. S.
Good, old timey pub. Decent selection of well priced local beer. Food quite expensive but pretty nice. One of the better pubs in the region.
C. A.
The Ivy House is run by the people of Peckham for the people of Peckham. Developers wanted to buy the place so the community got it grade 2 listed and then bought it collectively. Since that time it has worked hard to pay back the community it serves. There are open mic nights, comedy, quizzes, children's events. On top of that it's a good pub with a good Sunday roast and nice vegan options.
The building is good too. It got grade 2 listed for a reason. You should support it.
T. H.
Great community pub. Good beer range. Didn't eat but the food looked great and good value. Jazz Sunday. Worth he pilgrimage from North London. Will be back.
C. J.
Really great pub brimming with a well stocked bar. Great owners who care about their community. Can’t wait to revisit with friends
J. P.
Really like the idea of a community pub but I think the reality here sometimes feels more like a somewhat cliquey community centre. Good selection of beer and food is edible but increasingly there are much better options in the local area.
M. B.
Fantastic beer selection, tasty food, rustic pub setting. All in all, great community pub. What more could you want?
W. V.
Staff are really nice here, the interior is pretty special! Could do with sorting the rear garden out a little and the kids screeching and running on a Sunday is a little off-putting as is the pervading nappy smell but that's part of a gentrifying area I guess.
A. C.
Great little drinking hole with a good selection of well priced beers, a menu on rotation and solid live music. All round great venue, and it's a co-op!
F. H.
Good Bands,a great entertainment venue
C. B.
Excellent beer selection and they are well kept. Great performance venue. A real asset to the community. Interest declaration: I am a shareholder member.
S. M.
Attended a private party, yet could tell: the main bar that this place is well loved and adds a sense of community to the area. Good range of beer.
m. c.
Great beers and atmosphere. Lovely, local pub.
O. B.
Wonderful local pub with a classic interior and a excellent beer selection, including lots of different craft ales on draft.
S. A.
Sunday jazz made my weekend.
G. S.
My favourite pub, nice beer, home of the goose is out folk club, friendly open mic on a monday. Food good too.
J. S.
There was some event so I was at the small bar. It's aside so it's good to take a short break here. Not sure about food but they definitely do snacks like hot dogs and sandwiches.
M. W.
Good community pub. Nice range of beers. Good music. Fairly dark inside, not many windows but nice open fires in winter
A. M. k.
Just came in for my sunday half. Was asked to move to the front bar. Folk music at £2 on the back bar. I'd had a few halves already in the back bar. Lady insisting I move there.
Nothing to do with the barstaff ..who were courteous and polite throughout.
P.s rip Charlie greaves.
I need to say that the goose and out were to blame for unedifying ejection.
A. R.
Great Sunday roast at a fair price of £10.50! Beer and vibe is very good too. There is a distinctly un-neoliberal vibe in this wonderful community owned boozer!
b. l.
Don't judge a book by its cover... Passed this place for years and was put off by the exterior. But venture in and you're taken in to a wonderful friendly local, serving a huge range of beers and gastro grub.
Pull on your old heavy fur coat or chainmail and you can pretend you're Jon Snow for the night! (From GofT, not C4 news!)
J.
Lovely local pub with a big emphasis on events for the community.
Tasty food, good drinks, great venue!
M. A.
Popped in here after spe ding the day at my allotment
And was not sure of the tastes of the beer and I must say annabell gave me a taste of the easy peeler and flavoured beer without hesitation without me even asking
That's customer service 10/10
N. M.
Nice bar, with outdoor space that allowed for Covid safe catch-up.with friends and good pizza!
A. F.
"Ale" and Hearty !
Lovely, atmospheric old pub, with a selection of excellent real ales create a great place to sit, relax and "chew the fat". A favourite of mine!
m. m.
Whilst it feels like you've been transported back in time to an old fashioned boozer, that's no bad thing. The beer is decent and the local crowd seem friendly. I'll be back for sure.
C. C.
Everything a pub should be. Fantastic range of drinks, friendly staff and locals, and brilliant heritage. Love this place!
P. C.
Very nice pub with good food and friendly staff. Live music and great atmosphere.
R. K.
Nice range of local beers, dog friendly and an interesting history. Some community clubs during day if you're around... knitting, yoga anyone?
O. S.
Always love this place. Reliably good food on a changing menu, plenty of beer options, great atmosphere and always busy enough.
R. R.
Friendly staff, watch out for the occasional vicars collar on your beer, otherwise a good local community pub who cater for all music tastes.
R. S.
Cracking little place. Chock-full of vibes
A. H.
Great food and atmosphere.
J. G.
Great roast. Brilliant music every Sunday (Doolally tap this week and every third Sunday) our fave south London Sunday vibe! X
M. C.
Great beer selection, live jazz, and more (well behaved) kids than I've ever seen in a pub. Possibly even outnumbering the adults.
K. G.
It's a cute lil local pub, staff are friendly and helpful, they have a back room which they sometimes have performers there!
A. H.
Brilliant food, lovely atmosphere, friendly staff what's not to love?
R. E.
Strong beer selection and lovely atmosphere. Very cosy and often has live entertainment!
B. J.
Best pub around. Good beers, community owned, and great events and music.
T. B.
Food great, good range of beers, helpful staff, however, they MUST sort out the toilets !
J.
Wonderful South London Pub. Warm and welcoming with a great selection of beers. An oasis in a rather dreary and uninspiring residential side street.
I. C.
My favourite london pub. Reasonably priced food, great beer selection, wonderful atmosphere and a huge variety of events.
P. R.
Great, friendly pub. Good beers, lovely food and a great atmosphere
C. H.
Community owned pub. Usually has wide selection of local beers but mid-January choice was limited!
J. C.
Great atmosphere ! Live music ! Fabulous Sunday lunches - meat & vegetarian Sunday roast was delicious with generous portions!
O. C.
Please do not go to this place, ever. You will hate it and your head will explode. You will also annoy ME as it is my 2nd favourite pub after the Big Bang.
Does coffee
N. R.
Great community-owned pub, with good beer selection and a fantastic interior, complete with glamorous stage for live music
K. F.
Nice and quiet for a day pint on a wander round London. Friendly bar staff. Also co-operatively owned.

S. H.
Great community pub with an always interesting selection of beers and ales. Food very good too.

Great community pub, does live music, great beer selection and big inside.

Community. This is the word. A lighthearted feel embraces the visitors. You may be a stranger or a local, everyone will make you feel like you are one member of the cooperative.
v.
Lovely atmosphere.. ales are well kept and your doggy is welcome too...
J. S.
Fun vibe, good range of ales. Came for the good folk night
D. M. (. M. L.
Nice pub, great beers, but now a haven for local hipsters. No longer a venue for Irish traditional music sessions.
H. J.
Community run pub which retains a strong sense of community. Hosting a variety of events and performances by community groups, artists and musicians.
P. H.
Pretty cool venue. Not easy to get to via public transport. But worth the trip and easy parking outside if you drive.
J. T.
Community pub with board games and great drinks selection, dont hesitate just try it!
M. W.
A wonderful and unique community pub.
Good selection of beers, food and various entertainment

Lovely beer friendly staff
T. F.
Lovely grub in a proper local boozer. Wish I'd known about it years ago when I lived nearby!
m. g.
Felt like it was locals only. Reminded me of Bristol where you have to get there early to stand a chance of getting any space (on a Sunday afternoon)
C. H.
Very friendly staff, great food, great beer, an open fire what more could you want?
J. R.

Great community owned pub. Quirky activities. Great beer.
L. C.
Great local pub, Great beer selection. Service can be slow
m. t.
Hidden gem. Some of the customers are a bit up themselves, trying to posh the place up. Fortunately, it's still not all white.
C. C.
We're here on a quiet one Sunday evening a month to hear the blues band + guest
D. R.
Great live music but mediocre Sunday lunch and poor service.
