Simply the best roast I ever had. And I have been living in London for 15 years. Oh and also great selection of beers. And friendly staff and cosy setting. Right. I will come back. Outstanding!
W. W.
I was pleasantly surprised by this quirky pub. The food looked good and we ordered some dumplings to go with our drinks. Tasty as they were, I do find the price are on the high side.
I would like to comeback to try the Sunday lunch another time, seeing it has some good reviews.
T. A.
Wicked pub! Came here to watch the footy, quality screens and tasty beer. Already booked a table for the 6 nations.
Service was great too.
P. M.
Nice chill local, at times there are as many dogs as humans (good thing) hehe. Beer is well kept and always decent, a rare thing nowadays... Worth a visit 😉
S. H.
Fun, cosy pub with good atmosphere and food!
Casual pub off of Well Street, lots of space and seating, great drinks offering - with Beavertown and Guinness on tap as well as 2 Smirnoff cocktails on tap (espresso martini and passionfruit martini).
Great easy option for roasts- beef, chicken, lamb and nut roast (veggie and vegan). There is also the option to order Yardsale pizza into the pub which is great! Really good for groups as you order and pay for food at the bar so there isn’t any bill splitting at the end. Will be back!

Fantastic way to say goodbye to normal times (again). Lovely Asian food. The Japanese chicken with the yuzu mayonnaise was excellent. Also loved the pork buns. Hopefully we can get another meal in December....
R. E.
Nice pub, friendly vibe, good and interesting selection of beers... Cheers!
J. O.
Great quality grass fed beef. No joke. I’m glad I finally made it there. Carcass has been at St Kats Dock Friday market for a while and now they have moved to this beautiful pub. Looking forward to their journey here. Definitely recommend this place for grass fed beef and Sunday roasts 😋👌🏾
M.
Fun pub, nice pub. Big pizzas.
B. A.
Amazing roast! Lovely, friendly and attentive staff! So many choices of roast both meat and veggie
W. E.
Stumbled across this pub which is right on my doorstep. Landlord absolute legend. Had been out on a cycle and we had booked a table for drinks which wasn’t suitable for eating but landlord sorted me out with some free food (best roasties with gravy) and yeah, lovely pub, sun trap of a garden and great vibes. Will be coming back for sure. 👍🏾
A. M.
Not too bad beer selection, good on a friday. Pizza delivery to the table. Can get hot inside.
S. S.
A great Hackney pub with a really cosy vibe. It's the kind of place that feels good whether it's quiet or busy. Plus I always have a weakness for pubs with the bar in the middle of the room. May The Kenton always be around!
K. M.
Great little pub, with a good range of drinks. Very friendly.
J. P.
This is a great pub. We came here for the England v Czech game and had perfect seats in view of the tv. The interior of the pub is really cool and quirky without trying to be like a lot of other pubs in Hackney. We ordered a couple of pizzas from Yard Sale pizza, which came in 25 minutes and were delivered right to our table by the delivery driver. The staff are really friendly, efficient and accomodating too. Before and after the football they played really good music and it was basically everything you'd want in a pub. Will definitely be back soon.
D. S.
Awesome Sunday roast. By far the tastiest in the area.
S. G.
Lovely pub. Top Manager, vibes and service and a healthy selection of beers.
J. A.
Best pub in the area. Food has improved massively since new chefs are in. Great vibe, great beers and now amazing food. My favourite pub in London
L. W.
Lovely pub, good vibe and decent drinks.
S. D.
Booked a table for a Sunday roast, pleasant surroundings, friendly staff, retro background music. The roast beetroot bloody Mary was delicious as was the beef roast - which came out promptly and was nice and hot. Bonus point for the Irish waiter who rocked a turtle neck. 🐢
J.
Good selection of beers and great atmosphere. Dog friendly!
A. P.
This is one of the best pubs I have been to in London. They have managed to section off the space into rooms with their own personalities. It feels like stepping into different portals while remaining in the same universe. Does that make sense? No, absolutely not. At least not to you. Not yet. The only way to get it is to visit.
Also, the Yum Bun residency is a great touch! Kenton, where the food is flavourful, the drinks are delectable, the floor is danceable and the staff are affable.
C. H.
Had my 30th birthday here and it was great! Booked out an area outside and it was brilliant.
P. C.
A very nice pub to meet with friends for a drink.
N. C.
Great atmosphere and staff, Sunday dinner is amazing xx
L. T.
Great Sunday roasts - good quality meat, lovely range of vegetables and good portion size. Worth booking a table in advance.
T. N.
Amazingly quirky pub with a wide range of tap and bottled beers. Good cocktails and the availability of pizza from a local establishment.
H. T.
Best roast dinner I've had in a pub in London. Cooked with the love and care of a home roast so it was extremely delicious. The staff were super friendly and had really adapted to table service well too.
V. S.
Hands down the best Sunday Roast in London! Like eating a proper home cooked roast. If you love a roast, then don't delay in booking lunch here. The crumble pudding was incredible too! We'll be back...
J. M.
If you don't like dogs probably avoid. For context as owner asked for specifics the dog ran up to me as I walked in and barked pretty aggressively. If you're fine with dogs probs won't bother you and would be 5*s. If your not a fan getting barked at as you walk in is not ideal.
S.
Best Sunday roast in London. Super lovely staff. A great, quirky and cute pub.
J. B.
Was taken here by friends while visiting Hackney, and was so happy to come back several times during my stay. Really lovely staff, fun pub quiz nights, cozy decor, and a nice selection of reasonably priced drinks. Hope to go back whenever I visit London again. 10/10 would recommend.
A. T.
Cosy pub with a mixed crowd. Food is excellent. Good selection of beers on tap like Big Wave. I want the Estrella tap!
C. E. C. E.
Cool looking pub, and nice bones lager.
j. l.
Great pub, good atmosphere and excellent Sunday roast.
C. A.
Amazing staff, great music and fabulous clientele
H. K.
Friendly pub, just not really my kind of place.
The barman advised me it was Norse themed! In the middle of Hackney?
You may like it, but i preferred it as it used to be - Dominos , Rum and a underlying waft of Ganja.
P. B.
Popped in here for some Sunday morning bloody Marys. Well, it opens at 12 so technical afternoon. Very well made and spicy as requested. Also decided to have a Sunday roast as we've eaten here before and it was very good. Just as good this time - see photo. Finally, the service is also great - the guy behind the bar is always checking around to make sure everyone has what they need. Recommended.
R.
Although I never stopped for a bite to eat or drink yesterday (I Will be soon) I would like to say a huge Thank you to the chap behind the bar in the afternoon who helped me out with two bottles of water.
Thank you so much 😊
E. H.
Totally sublime Sunday lunch - would particularly recommend the beef as the gravy should have its own instagram following. All enjoyed in the totally chilled atmosphere of the Kenton - Sunday at it's very best. That's taking nothing away from the incredible new Carcass regular menu - treat yourself you'll thank me later.
k. f.
This is one of my favourite places in London, I really love this pub. The staff is really friendly, the food is great and they have their own lager, which is really tasty. Prices are a bit much (I know this is not something they want, but a business decision). Their garden is really nice but you have to pay to use the heater (money goes to charity) and I think its a bit much, if I remember its a pound for 15 min, which is way too much...
E. S.
What an amazing establishment. Hackney’s stand out boozer, combines a top quality food and drink offer with casual, comfortable, and welcoming surroundings. Hospitality is the name of the game and this place nails it.
Slow fire is their new kitchen and every dish is a cracker, great produce expertly crafted. Proper grub.
The staff are also fantastic, especially the Irish contingent, finest pint of Guinness this side of the Irish Sea.
Try their wines also amazing for the prices they’re charging.
B. K.
My local. When life's normal this is my go to pub. Cosy, well managed and always friendly staff. Had a keg of Pillars Rebel Helles delivered to my door by Egil the owner this evening, making isolation/lockdown 2.0 that bit better on a Friday evening.
Easily Hackney's finest proper pub.
M. S.
Great atmosphere in this pub. Great beer, fresh and cold, which a pilsner should be.
So the food. Saturday afternoon burgers on the menu.
That said, I had sirloin steak and chips with a side of grilled chilli broccoli.
Disappointing presentation, delivered in a chip van brown paper tray with a wooden fork.
Chips, frozen and over cooked, very hard. The steak was very good. Soft and perfectly rarely cooked, excellent quality in the sirloin, shame the rest of it was letting down. £15 for a meal in a paper tray is a bit of a shame. Lots of tender stem broccoli in the side helps the sting. 3 stars for this.
Need to put some more thought into this to be worth a second visit for food.
Pub is very cool and cosy. Great drinks is what you want and is what they serve. Top pub. 👍
M. A.
Lovely dog friendly pub, tasty food and great staff
M. G.
We came here about a year ago for a roast and it was amazing. Decided to recommend it today for our group of 6 friends, we were really looking forward to it remembering how good the food was last year and how generous the portions were. Unfortunately today was a bit of a let down, the food was tasty but the portion size was SO small. We all had the beef and we all received two tiny potatoes and three slivers of beef. For £16.50 I feel this was overpriced. My partner who is 6’5 and likes to exercise felt the portion was a snack. Even myself as the smallest of the group wasn’t full. I’m saddened as honestly I felt the Kenton’s old roast was the best in london ☹️ It’s such a good pub with great drinks, but PLEASE give us a decent amount of food!
K. L.
One of my favourite places in London. Friendly, attentive bar staff. Great beer selection. Lots of places to cosy up and catch up with friends.
Finally had the chance to pop in during the week recently and thoroughly enjoyed the veggie burger. Love when a chef gets inventive with the vegetarian option instead of making the same ole bean burger. Was absolutely brilliant. The large of chips I got on the side were more than generous and I left full and happy.
D. J.
Saw a cool dog. I think she was the landlord
S. C.
The pub has a nice atmospheres and surely a great place for having a pint. However the Sunday roast, to say it bluntly, is a joke. most of what was on the plate was either from a can or one of those ready-meals-type of things and quite frankly that for a solid 15 quid is far too expensive. Would definitely not recommend having food there and quite frankly that has also put me off from going back for a drink.
J. O.
Brilliant staff, fab food, fab service, majorly quirky, there will be something different you'll spot everytime you look around. The Garden is amazing. I love this pub and will defo be going back again. I met someone there for the first time, it too was her first visit, she loved it so much, she rang her husband to come down and meet her after work for a drink as she knew her husband would appreciate the aesthetic.
S. W.
We liked everything about this pub!
D. N.
Liked this pub. Plain stripped wood interior with lots of junk, signs and character. Five Points (local) beer on draft plus others. Warm and dimly lit on a cold mid-week evening. Simple food menu was fine, but could not be described as "gourmet". Loved the sign "no bikes in the pub",..... Only in Hackney!
S. Q.
We went on a Sunday when we were staying locally based mainly on the reviews we'd read on here. The roast really is amazing. We arrived late so they'd run out of beef, my boyfriend had the lamb which was great and I had the nut roast after seeing it on someone else's plate. Even based on the nut roast (I'm not a veggie) it was one of my favourite Sunday dinners in London- awesome! The service was lovely, the range of beers was great, all in all a really good spot!
P. B.
Woke up thinking we should go for lunch at the Kenton today. Alas - not possible. Can’t wait until you’re back
Great beer, food, football TVs, people and dog
Viva la Kenton
(Pre Pandemic pic - Oct 19)

The pub is really nice and cosy, a bit remote, so not too crowded. Nice atmosphere. BUT I would advise to go there only for drinks, as we've had quite a bad experience food wise. On a Saturday night, they did not have half of what is on the menu and the food, apart from the burgers that were ok, was really not good. The staff was lovely and made it up to us by offering us shots and removing the bad dishes from the bill.
T. C.
Loooove The Kenton! What a hidden gem. Always great fun, always great music (played from a tiny disco booth complete with disco lights) and a cool vibe, nice and cosy, friendly staff and loads of cool memorabilia to look at. Oh a a nice sunny little back terrace too!
A. S.
Love this pub - was disappointed to see that they've switched roast providers ("carcass") and roasts are approximately one third of their previous mass. Was left hungry; will have to get food en route home and find a new roast spot.
S. S.
Best pub in Homerton. Good beers, friendly vibes and decent music. Also an excellent Sunday Roast. :) 5 stars and recommended.
J. C.
I am struggling to think of a time I've had a better Sunday roast in London. I went for the lamb which was slow cooked shoulder (I think). It was delish!! And whatever they did to their potatoes should be patented. They were amazing!! Atmosphere was casual and friendly. Beer and wine list were nothing to write home about but did the job.
J. H.
Great Sunday roast and good selection of beers. Nice relaxed atmosphere. Staff were good too. Would definitely go back!
m. l.
Scruffy local pub with outside space which is a premium anywhere ( in London) nice enough local pub, has won awards for best pub. It's okay a bit scruffy but still worth a visit if in 'da hood'. No destination pub but close to Victoria park- see my other reviews, so go for Sunday lunch after a walk.
D. A.
Sunday roast is really good, everything tasted good and you could tell the quality of the ingredients. I would add a couple of slices of meet (beef or chicken) to make it perfect in size too.
A. S.
Cute, friendly, charming atmosphere and delicious tap choices. Didn't try the food but couldn't help overhearing people around us saying how fantastic it was. Put it on my list to come for Sunday supper
D. M.
Best pub in Hackney? Certainly deserving of its plethora of awards. Great atmosphere- walls adorned with the bric-à-brac of its Norwegian owners, various sections to find a little home in, rotating food residencies, Tuesday quiz, and cracking Sunday lunch (tables always get booked tho grrrr). There’s RockPaperScissors to get a discount on you bill during Friday happy hour- kinda sums it up. Just go
J. P.
A perfect pub for this part of town. Well balanced bar between real ales on handpump and more outlandish craft/American beers on tap with requisite labels/handles. Food offerings are great. Fantastic atmosphere, with enough retro furniture to satisfy a hipster crowd, while maintaining enough old pub charm to satiate traditionalists. The balance this place achieves in impressive; no wonder it won Time Out's major pub award in 2015.
k. m.
Lovely stuff, not my words Hackney, the words of Shakin Stevens, who would no doubt stop Off Here for a frothy cold one on his way home from a trendy Homerton barbers. This is a great pub, good jukebox, good beers friendly staff and great wings. It’s a solid mid week quiet beer and super busy at weekends. Haven’t tried the roasts but they do look good.
EDIT- I’ve tried the roast two weekends in a row now and it’s been brilliant each time. Great meat, which is the star but made me with real attention for pub food (not gastro pub).
R. R.
This has to be my favourite pub in Hackney, loads of great spaces and a cosy beer garden, the selection of drinks are great and the staff are always friendly.
Second review point: I was here for the pub quiz on Tuesday night and the content was fun, compare as atmosphere were great, syill can't recommend it more!
T. I.
Went for the pub quiz last night, both draught ales (five points and mad goose) tasted watery, I don’t know whether this was down to the barrel just being changed but the beer was not good, which isn’t what I’d experienced before. The pub is overall, very expensive. The quiz is average with the quizmaster verging on arrogant and having no rapport or patter with the people playing, I don’t know what he was doing last night but the pace was so slow I nearly gave up. Never mind the coked up hipsters behind us who nearly started a fight amongst themselves.
L. H.
Nice little pub and not to busy on a Saturday evening.
C. P.
Amazing pub! Egil and the team make you feel welcome and they have the best beers!
K. D.
Theeeeee best roast I’ve had in London
G. G.
The best Sunday roast I've tried so far! Good selection of beers and good atmosphere. It's a shame that it's tricky to find a seat because it's always busy.
J. W.
The Kenton used to be our favourite local - they had Brockmans Gin, insanely good buffalo chicken wings and the best roasts in town with the tastiest trimmings. One day we called up to book a table and BAM - "we are currently changing over our kitchen and will reopen for food in 2 weeks". It was a sad day and we will forever remember what it used to be because The Kenton had combined the things any pub goer wants the most: great music, cosy atmosphere, beautiful lamps and general decor, BANGING FOOD and great staff. Yes all the other things still remain but we sorely miss the old kitchen as I believe many others do as well. We live in hope that it will switch back over one day but for now this pub is not our "go to" anymore and you've lost lots of fans in changing it all over. Not that the current food is bad, but it's not as good as before.
We still love everything else about it but I think you've lost some regulars.
Will still occasionally come binge on your Brockmans though. ❤️
S. S.
We're so lucky to have The Kenton as our local pub. Great, rotating guest ales, super friendly staff and a pub dog. 'Pop-up' food, which actually popped up quite a long time ago, but - not complaining - the burgers are great, and always a veggie option or two. There are board games too, pub quizzes and films on Monday nights. And a beer garden that's more concretey than greenery, but you can take shelter in the garage, and help yourself to blankets or pop a quid in the heater - all of the money goes to a local charity. Help yourself and help others - at one of London's best local pubs.
D. T.
Very good vibe, cool people and cozy venue. Only down side is the music, too loud. You can barely hear the person sitting next to you and you really have to shout. Forget to hear or engage a conversation with someone in front of you.
J. R.
We was wondering around looking for a place to eat with our dog, what we found was this hidden gem. Best Sunday food I’ve had in a long time even if you don’t have a dog try it for yourself. Thank you guys, really enjoyed it.
D. L.
Came in last week great atmosphere, food offering was not great but the fun management with the glasses and another man made it a fun experience.
Great drinks and lovely music.
A. H.
Quirky and friendly pub with a great selection of beers
J. I.
Easily the best pub in Hackney, excellent staff, atmosphere and location
F. E.
A really fantastic roast. Though the vegetables used to be better before, when there was cheesy broccoli and more veg, however it is still one of the best roasts in London.
T. B.
Great food and atmosphere... landlord super friendly and service was top notch
S. H.
Amazing roast dinner and totally cool pub. Love it!!!!
J. P.
First time here, was a very warm and welcoming pub with friendly staff and it's DOG FRIENDLY! What a place will definitely planning my bext journey to include this pub.
A. F.
Traditional interior with friendly staff and a good selection of beers. I had a Sunday roast that was pretty good, it's the kind of place you could spend a long time in.
B. S.
I always have a great time in this pub. It's a gem of a local. Staff are always friendly and Iits got a good little outside area to get pissed in whatever the weather.
N. H.
The staff are somewhat obnoxious, however they did serve a huge pot of mayo to go with our burgers. The price is just slightly pricey for the drinks and food. But should you be local it's a fine pub to visit for a drink with friends.
D. A.
I love this pub. especially dog friendly.
L. S.
Great atmosphere and choice of beer. Food took a while on a Sunday to get our roast, but was worth the wait
J. A.
Lovely staff. Of ales, Taylor only on tap
G. L. P.
“Massive, delicious and easily the best in the area.. also, even though I am a confirmed meat eater the vegetarian nut roast is the business” – Bob Flemming, GLPer.
Bob, you had us at ‘massive’. The Kenton is a Norwegian-run, friendly neighbourhood-pub that offers great wines, beers, ales, and cocktails. There’s a fine selection of food on tap (?) including everyone’s favourite filler, pie & mash, ably constructed by ‘Pieminister’. Plus the aforementioned immense roasts on Sundays.
Our Norwegian friends work hard to keep the lively local ticking. There’s a stock of board games to keep you busy, live music, pub quizzes, jumble sales, film nights and comedy thrown in for good measure.
Inside it’s a cosy affair, wood and low lighting, eclectic furniture and a moose on the wall which was actually shot by the owner’s grandfather back in Norway in 1972. They’ve also converted a garage out the back for the smokers and their friends.
Thanks for the tip off: Bob Flemming
K. L.
I still don't know what Northern Soul cuisine is, but the Kenton is the local for my little nook of Homerton, and I finally popped in on a late Sunday afternoon for a Soul Classic burger.
£6.50 gets you a moo-moo patty with a bisect of white cheddar and a smear of minced salsa. The brioche bun was good bread, but I wish it had been in the vicinity of a toaster to get it crispy and warm.
We were offered two mustards, ketchup, and a little bowl of mayo.
On the beer side of things, they serve a full draught selection, and a wider sweep of bottles than you might expect: Sierra Nevada, DOGFISH HEAD, to name the American ones that caught my eye. My liver lusted for a cold one, but next time, Kenton, next time.
Chill atmosphere, and we spent about an hour trivial-pursuiting each other about news & pop culture from the 70s.
Did you know that Marie Curis is from Polish? And now you do.
J. E.
Great local pub, good selection of beers both bottled and draft. Have eaten there 3+ times and each time have enjoyed a nice burger
S. T.
Maybe I can confess to being a touch biased as I have known Egil for years, but he runs a tight ship full of gorgeous swashbuckling pirates so get yourself down here if you can, it really does deserve all the accolades. Don't let Maddie get you drunk... she probably will anyway. 👍🏻
T. B.
Nice pub
M. M.
Visiting London for the weekend and this pub a highlight of the trip, great pints and good chat from the bar staff. Kenny pours a great Guinness.
C. A.
Great pub, very cosy with a large selection of high quality beers, that are constantly being rotated.
R. C.
Unique decor in the pub. Sunday roast was massive and tasted delicious! Also a bonus with rugby on in the background.
L. H.
Great pub for Sunday lunch. The roast was giant and very tasty. Good selection of drinks too
J. H.
Favourite dog friendly spot for a pint and a roast on Sundays! If you go any other day of the week try the Swedish Meatballs.
T. W.
Was here a few weeks ago. Any pub serving Kona Brewery Big Wave and Neck Oil on draft deserves 5 stars.
R. M. T.
Lovely local pub, comfy cosy besides Covid - dog friendly (in fact it has its own dog 👌🏼)
s. h.
Best pub in Hackney, great staff and a wide selection of beers.
R. H.
Unfriendly and inattentive staff who'd rather chat to their mates at the bar than serve customers. Good selection of beers and nice atmosphere otherwise
A. L.
Nice pub with a garden and friendly people.
f. m.
Liked it
Will come back on 17 sep
L. M.

Good fun and great pub. I had a £9.50 burger which was a bit steep seeing as it didn't come with chips.
G. I.
Great pub, nice people and the best slow roast pork belly I have eaten in a long time.

Fantastic food - burgers are especially good. Nice little garden - good range of beers.
T. M.
Was in this great little spot last night. Food was brilliant and you can tell it's well run. Will be returning!
t. c.
this being but several doors from my home I am proud to call this my local, though being rather reticent about the changes after Egil ( mein host ) undertook I am quite happy to sit in a corner unmolested to read my evening standard after a days graft .... p.s the food lovely but occasionally the bar staff can be a bit to pretentious ,other than that ," KEEP IT UP EGIL"
D. S.
Great pub with fun atmosphere :) always end up here when we visit friends in London . Get the bucket o Chicken wings !! :)

F. G.
Great beer!
A. Z.
If it wasn't so out of the way, it'd be one of the best pubs in London. Though to be fair, that remoteness of it is probably what keeps the unwanted away. :)
N. K.
Hearty Sunday lunch, pleasant staff, convivial atmosphere. Will go back.
J. M. B. (.
Love their Sunday Roast. Quiz night burgers are banging as well
C. J.
Friendly place with decent beers but limited menu

Would be good if they offered some simple bar food as well as what they do provide.
