Reviews of The Palm Tree
F. I. t.
🖤hidden gem&great date place. Dont be fooled by the closed doors, it is definitely open! Cash only. Cozy, warm and quite intimately small space. Perfect low light. So lucky to have been blessed with a band play last night, and a gorgeous singer. They have a musicians spot already set up. This band play every Thursday apparently.
Sweet and welcoming owner. Enjoy x
G. R.
5* my new favourite pub with excellent service, great beers on tap and a decent price for London in general. On Fridays and Saturdays the live music is top notch and welcomes a regular crowd as well as passer by’s.
B. M.
Yay, the live jazz trio with singer are finally returning to The Palm Tree on Friday 1st October 2021. Have really missed the live music, so let's hope for a big crowd to welcome them back.
B. A.
My son and I were brought here as the finale to a London pub explorer tour and it is up there with the best pubs I have had the pleasure of visiting. The building is an architectural gem, the interior is original authentic and full of charm. The guvnor who has been there since 1976 was warm, welcoming and shared some lovely stories and history. I can't wait to introduce others to this unique pub.
T. W.
Ignore the negative reviews about this pub being stuck in a Time warp. The people posting this are deluded.
Further, if you can’t afford to buy a bottle of water don’t bother going out.
We are from Kent and out the area. I visited this pub for the second time tonight and both times the landlord has been a delight and a gentlemen.
Again, if you can’t get cash out before you, don’t go out.
Prices of drinks are more than reasonable and further a band is on Fridays and Saturdays that play brilliant music and how do you think the land lord is paying for them?
I’d go as far as saying it’s the best pub I’ve ever been to.
S. A.
Magical pub, proper authentic East end experience! Make it down on Fri and Sat for the amazing house band and an atmosphere like no other!
J. H.
I LOVE THIS PUB! Such a unique place with great staff . No frills just a really cool pub with an old school feel. Can't wait till their live music is up and running again!
T. T.
Step back in time with this gem of a pub, enjoy music from the golden era such as Sinatra, Dean Martin, singers and jazz band playing the classic sounds from days gone by. The Palm Tree pub located in the park is an experience for all.
T. C.
My new favourite pub.
Cracking beer, live music (not so loud you can't talk) and the best atmosphere.
J.
Whimsy and beautiful in its very own way and character. Live jazz music from sharply dressed dignified east end legends every now and then. Usually one cask ale on tap among your usual lager suspects. Cash only and not the place to ask for a beer sample or tell the guvnor they should have Neck Oil on tap.
A. M.
I live in Los Angeles, California but when I visit London, I love coming to this pub. How can I not? I love palm trees and beer.
E. L.
It’s like been thrown back in time in the most amazing way, gorgeous decor and good outdoor seating right next to the canal at this real East London pub!
T. B.
Nicest owner ever and the inside looks gorgeous! We've already decided to come back when they can have the band play inside again
L. H.
Stopped here for a quick drink before heading to All Points East. It's proper boozer with a friendly landlord and old school decor. Would definitely return when we're next in the area.
S. L.
Friendly staff, cosy pub, nice music, old timey feel, cash only tho
A. T.
Very nice pub, hidden away in mile end park. Well worth a visit. Family owned for years.
s.
1950s decor, they had a great band in there playing Chuck Berry and Sinatra, on a Friday. Its a great old boozer
a. h.
Cash only but otherwise great atmosphere and proper English boozer
L. S.
I lived in one of the ghastly condos across the way for a short period and I must say I was always happy that this existed and continued to exist. Looking forward to Palm Tree 2086.
F. C.
Great owner, great beer. What's an amazing place!!
S. C. H.
An East London classic. I recommend the Jazz nights, or a sunny evening on the park
J. M. N.
Great pub very historic highly recomend
D. K.
This place is an old London gem. A boozer that time forgot. Bring cash they do not take cards. Live jazz here is really special. Sunday is the best night. It kicks off around 9pm. The crowd is mixed young and old.
S. A.
Top East End pub, well-kept ales, terrific interior, friendly staff. The live crooner music on Friday and Saturday nights guarantees a good night out, but it's also a lovely place to go at quieter times, in the afternoons and earlier in the week. The room in the back is nice too when you need to sit down for a proper chat. In the summer, everyone pours out onto the canalside lawn. Well worth going out of your way for.
But remember; it's CASH ONLY!
C. B.
A real old pub. Cash only. Alf has been here 44 years.
R. K.
Cash only pub in the middle of green space, next to a canal. Tatoes crisps. Just lovely.
B. A.
A lovely, quirky, cozy, family-run East End boozer in a lovely location (in Mile End Park). Great for canal-side drinking in the summer and snug, sociable beers in the cooler months.
j. i. m.
I old traditional type pub not very many left
H. T.
Beautiful setting next to the canal. Great that they are doing takeaway during lockdown but cannot wait for it reopen so that we can experience it's beautiful and unique interior. Such a piece of history in the East End.
D. F.
Amazing band
G. C.
Don't be put off by the way this isolated pub looks closed, try the door! A step back in time, with a wonderfully unspoilt pub keeping separate public and lounge bars and a venerable landlord and landlady who can recount tales from when the pub was surrounded by long-vanished houses. A relaxing change from the rat race.
T. S. C.
A unique pub and well worth a visit - however, be warned it is very much a LOCALS pub: i.e. you won't really be welcome there until they get to know you. Expect completely random prices and cash only payment - they make up the price based on how much they like you and have seen you before so it's really not cheap if you're new. The price will also differ round-by-round. Worth seeing the crooners on a weekend but it will be busy.
P. D.
Doesn't take card and the outdoor space (furniture) is pretty lacking but it is next to grassy space right by the canal and offers takeaway pints
J. M.
One of the last unspoilt gems of the old East End. Family run for generations and with glorious live music on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights in which the polished house band and guest singers belt out hits of the Rat Pack era. Like most cockneys, staff and regulars may be guarded at first but very loyal in the long run.
A. D.
A gem by the canal, not to be missed if you are in the area. Original and beloved, no frills and cash only, a proper pub. Live music and outdoor seating in a bit of an oasis of greenery including palm trees!
H. H.
What a lovely hidden treasure in London, stumbled upon accidentally but nice clientele and sweet lady running it!! What a nice time.
O. B.
Very nice cozy place, the jazz made my night.
M. G.
One of the last genuinely un-gentrified pubs in the East End, The Palm Tree on paper shouldn't be a great pub: it lacks the modern amenities like trendy craft IPAs, chiq decor, or even card payment. Instead you're presented with red dingey lighting, worn out red drapes, an old fashioned till and warm brown ale. Come on a Saturday night and you'll be able to catch the resident band "The Palm Trio" playing jazz classics.
J. R.
The best thing in London, many have said after visiting the Palm Tree on a weekend night. Can't beat the atmosphere - the place is like stepping into a time machine and going more than half a century back in time. The beer selection is limited and it's cash only but who cares.
J. A.
Great guinness, sound fella. Lovely canal views, and the trees. Amazing spot.
C. M.
Bit pricey. But aside from that, wow what a pub!! I love this place. Didn’t think there was anywhere left like this. And the musicians on a sat eve. Brilliant.
A. B.
Old school British pub. Worth visiting of you want to see old England.
S. G.
Good old pub friendly place
C. L.
The last of the crooners, a hidden gem in the heart of Mile End park!
Live quality jazz music any Saturday and Sunday night, only cash accepted.
C. B. A.
the queen's palace is very beautiful
Á. J.
This pub is just so great!! It has fantastic live music and an authentic style! Totally love it!!
S. G.
Top notch traditional pub in the middle of a park, and next to the canal. Not too busy, so it's a great place for a chat (& decently priced beer!).
P. G.
Hasn't changed in decades (only the surrounding area has). A proper old boozer in a great location next to the canal. Note however it doesn't overlook the water.
R. T.
Wonderful Pub. I love this place for the music and atmosphere.
A. M.
Visited in May 2018, found it a little expensive to be honest. It was busy as there was a music festival in Victoria park so a few of the ravers went there first. Haven't been back since.
K. E.
Went on a Sunday night had a really good group of musician's playing a very good atmosphere in the pub, down side drinks are West end prices.
J. “. !. S.
We were short of change but the person who served us was kind enough to let us pay what we had and said we could pay the rest when passing by. What a lovely gentleman 😁
p. g.
I love this pub and I’ve only been twice, Arthur’s lovely plus Dr Who ought to film here, it totally unique in these modern times.
T. V.
An East end gem, they do fantastic jazz nights. It's a cash only pub, but that adds to it's charm.
l. r.
Great pub very friendly and back there now
L. b. s.

A great venue if you're going for a bit of nostalgia and old school tunes. It's not cheap and takes a while to get served when busy.
S. C.

(Translated) Great place to go for a pint and listen to live Jazz. The PUB is a classic and when you enter, you can breathe the history you have lived. The waiter is very good people. You can listen to live music on Fridays and Saturdays from 9:30 PM and on Sundays from 8:30 PM. It is important to carry cash as they do not accept a card. On the negative side, they have a variety of draft beers.
(Original)

(Translated) One of the most beautiful and suggestive places in London. A hole, really small, simple, but located in the heart of the park, beside the canal. They perform every evening crooner of caliber in unforgettable jam sessions. If you go then on the night of the fire of the parliament you can touch its peak.
(Original)
