Reviews of The Seven Stars
J. C.
Nice quirky pub with a good selection of beers spirits and food. Love the black cat at the top of the stairs just relaxing
B. B.
One of the oldest pubs in London, right behind Royal Courts of Justice. Their food is absolutely amazing, outstanding even. You can close your eyes and poke at the board-cant go wrong. Food changes all the time. Dog friendly and open 7 days a week. One of my favourite places in town
C. G. D. S.
Great hidden little secret, nice quirky pub that has a cat with a ruff! Decent enough selection of beers, it's quite small so cosy when not too busy but if busy or with a big group you're best standing outside, which is also good as you're on the back of the royal courts of justice so cool setting and a quiet street.
Great alternative pub that's great to support over going to the big chains nearby.
F. D.
Delightfully quirky pub set behind the Royal Courts of Justice. Amusing and interesting pictures decorate the walls together with lawyers' wigs in the window. Host was very welcoming. Gastro food was freshly cooked and very tasty. Drinks served well. Worth visiting.
M. L.
A real gem and one I shall return to. Strengths: ancient 1602 building (one of London's oldest pubs - not a gin palace), friendly staff who know their customers and are talkative to us tourists, delightful quiet ambience, very well kept beers and wide, unusual menu at pub not pretentious prices. Weaknesses: no vegan meal and on a quiet day the home cooked meals may be microwaved (but you would do that at home so not really a major weakness). Interesting web site too. Go there.
C. J. G.
Small pub behind the royal courts of justice. Lots of character. Reasonable prices.
D. N.
Nice selection of pints, large portions of great quality (beef ragu with penne and chicken soup with barley) and an absolutely excellent value for money, overall.
If you are into stuff of the sort, you will definitely enjoy the "ye ole good pub" feeling, as well.
I would expect no less, from the oldest pub in London (est. 1602 I've been said).
5 stars from me, will definitely visit again.
P. F.
A top little pub with a legal charm - went for a Sunday afternoon drink - kitchen was closed but that was ok. Really lovely surrounding and the staff were very accommodating. Keen to come back again
T. L.
Rustic British cooking perfectly executed. This is pub food but not your average pub food. Don’t expect a burger or indeed fish and chips but if your thing is soused herring and potato salad or maybe a cheese and onion pie, then make a b line for the seven stars.
L. L.
What a great pub. Small but quirky with some great artwork on the walls. Quite an old pub and obviously very popular. Well worth a visit.
R. K.
Small but the food is awesome and such good value. second time I’ve been and and so impressed each time. staff are really friendly too
T. H.
A lovely little pub for a quiet drink on a Saturday afternoon. Excellent service- thank you
K. M.
Stumbled upon while doing a nostalgic wander. Wish I’d known about it when I was at Kings. Lovely staff, amazing food, good selection of cask ales, and a cat. What more do you need?
A. B.
This is one of the most peculiarly decorated pubs I have ever seen!
The food is ok, but the vegetarian options are somewhat limited. The staff is indifferent, to say the least.
M. S.
Super, typical olde London pub.
S. 8.
A great pub situated behind the RCJ.
A good selection of beers on offer within a homely, tavern environment. Tasty homemade food on offer too
A. F.
Lovely authentic pub. Has nice outdoor seating. Pleasant for small groups, don't go if you're a large group. Great menu, try the chicken club sandwich! Also love their cider on tap.
N. R.
Lovely pub, hidden off the main drag of Fleet St or Chancery Lane. Beers out front on the street make for a leisurely evening with friends, and no significant traffic.
D. H.
What a lovely place. A perfect London pub
l. o.
Fantastic old pub, tucked away behind the Royal.courts of justice, Adams, and Harvey's (much better than I've had in some Brighton pubs) ,really chilled too
R. T.
Great British centuries-old back street boozer. Fine selection of ales and spirits. Real olde London ambience. Well worth a visit to one of the few remaining authentic city hostelries. (Pic also of the rear of the Royal Courts of Justice which the pub faces)

Small friendly, quirky pub. Good atmosphere. Plastic table cloths made it feel more like a bistro, we think it would be much better with bare tables. Tricky staircase to toilets but nice and clean.

Another of London’s ‘celebrity’ pubs, the Seven Stars is just behind the High Court in London.
The pub is a two room-affair, with the bar in the middle, and the place has a vaguely legal theme, although not in an officious way.
Owner Roxy Beaujolais has a great menu which is chalked on a board and changed daily and there’s @adnams beer and a few others on draught.
If you visit, look at the displays in the windows before you go in, they might not have changed in decades but they’re a piece of art.
Unusually for this area, it’s open on #sunday as well, which is a real bonus.
P. M.
Very eccentric pub, decent pint. Give the pub Cat a stroke... But shut the door!! 🤣
V. S.
Lovely old fashioned pub in the heart of the city, well worth a visit
m. p.
Love this pub. The landlady is amazing and we can never let it change.
T. W.
Excellent little bistro. Food was excellent. Very friendly bar staff and clientele. Highly recommend.
D. T.
A lovely old pub nestled behind the Royal Courts of Justice on Carey street, not far from Ye Oldest Curiosity Shoppe. Lovely people and a quirky building. Delightful! Staff are great, beer is great and the resident cat is a superstar called Clement Attlee, Clement Cattle shurely (Ed). Take a little walk and visit, I recommend.
D. W.
Excellent little pub. Good heaters when drinking outside on the pavement.
E. F.
As billed, this is a very old pub patronized by locals. I had a great conversation at the bar and a great meal with my kids there. Only take your kids if they are well behaved, like mine. They made it clear they would not tolerate misbehavior.
G. H.
Great quirky pub behind the Royal Courts of Justice - well worth a visit.
f.
Interesting small pub which used to get quite busy early evening before the pandemic, it only has one single cubicle for the male toilet and the same or the female toilet up and awkward set of stairs, there are two small rooms at each end of the bar where you can eat some of the food which they sell which is normally quite good.
N. H.
Cosy, long and narrow pub with an aged atmosphere. An exotic display of imagery cover the walls.
M.
No loud music. Fast service. Lipstick on clean wine glasses.
K. M.
Great pub. Nice, friendly staff. Loved it.
S. M.
Nice friendly pub, good beer.
D. W.
Cosy and quirky pub with great legal memorabilia. Contemporary British inspired food is also excellent, I had a roast squab on couscous. If you're lucky, you'll see the Cat in a Ruff.
D. F.
Very quirky pub... Nice atmosphere and lots to look at to keep you entertained.... Didn't spot the famous pub cat this time unfortunately!
F. W.
Ever and never changing. Food. Enu a little restricted but beer and welcome always on point.
S. H.
Was hoping for a bigger choice of ales, and venue was very restricted for space.
a. d.
Friendly, warm atmosphere great selection of grub and beers, and best historical pub in london
J. B.
Cozy. Almost too cozy. Tucked away a bit. Man talking very loudly. Think about asking him to keep it down. Think better of it. I'm a coward. The coward's pub.
D. P.
Wonderful pub with great food
S. H. B.
Old school pub with lots of charm 🇬🇧
L. H.
Lovely pub, great beer.
R. T.
A very nice out of the way pub.
J. G.
Excellent. The kind of London pub you go to, if you know what you’re doing. Eccentric without being affected or gimmicky. Food doesn’t always look great but tastes fantastic. Good booze and a pleasing lack of craft beers and novelty gins. Check it out...
H. L.
Adam is not that unique enough
J. R.
This is the best place for an after work pint, chilling out with the pub cat in front of the fireplace.
An island of homely atmosphere, surrounded by the lifeless steel and concrete influx of the area.
The food is homemade. Drinks the usual small pub selection.
Gets busy on Friday nights, apart from that I always found a good spot inside.
T. K.
Great pub with a genuine London atmosphere, you almost feel like you’ve gone back in time.
Small but decent selection of beers including lager, bitter and IPA. The food here is home cooked and to date has always been excellent, very good value for money too.
A wonderfully cosy environment which you will happily hide from winter in. Only thing that knocks this down is that the current cat does have a tendency of making on of the rooms smell a little too strong for comfort.
J. C.
This pub is a jewel, a short walk away from the hustle and bustle of Fleet Street. Staff and patrons were surprisingly friendly, and the ale selection was good, considering the size of the bar. Just visiting a historical pub like this was worth the diversion, and if we hadn't been in the midst of a historical pub crawl in the city, I would have stayed for a few more pints and dinner.
G. S.
Great little pub behind the High Court, normally frequented by various legal types weekdays...v chilled on weekends
D. H.
Now how do you describe the Seven Stars? Perhaps the fact that the pub cat wears a ruff should tell you something. The beers (Harvey's and Adnams Ghost Ship) were beautifully kept, there was another but I can't recall it's name. However the food, decor and the Red headed landlady, set this small pub apart from the normal. The food has an African spiciness, the chicken pie and meatballs were things of wonder. The pub is small, with plastic gingham tablecloths, there are pictures of the owner and customers in former times. This is part pub, part museum, it was fairly busy when we had lunch, but I imagine it could get very busy at certain times. Give it a try, I think it's wonderful.
J. H.
You will have a wonderful time here and the food is sensational!
S. V.
Good food and beer in Nice quiet boozer
S. D.
Like stepping back in time..
A pub with character 👌
D. F.
Lovely atmosphere, cosy. Can be difficult to find a spot when it's busy. Could have a more interesting selection of beers but the cask seems well kept. Dirtiest glassware I've seen in a pub for a while. All that said, I'll be returning many times.
J. M.
A classic pub, definitely one of the best in London. The food is amazing, (limited) cocktails are lovely and the beer (mostly real ale) is well-kept. A great place to spill out onto the street on a warm summer's day. Only problem is that this pub is TINY! So make sure to get there early or come when it's warm and you can stand outside.
S. T.
I first started drinking in here in 1996 when it was the proper Seven Stars. It was a wonderfully quirky pub that opened early for regulars. It is still a lovely pub and Roxy has made some great changes and improvements to the pub but it’s not the same for me.
The food is superb (as one would expect from the Queen of Soho). Thankfully the evil cat is no longer!
A must visit if you’re in the area.
S.
This is a superb local gem! I'm biased cause I live nearby, this is a quiet gem to get away from all the tourists. Drinks are very reasonably priced. I haven't tried their food yet. What I like about this is the history behind this pub, lawyers go there to get a celebratory pint after a case closes. The most fascinating thing is this pub has been there since the 1600s, wow. Cheers!
C. M.
A very old pub with a lot of character. The meals are limited and advertised on the board and we enjoyed all the dishes we tried (cheeseburger, herring and potatoes, rabbit ragu penne and the Italian meatballs). Seating is limited and it was flat tack after we turned up so best to come early or later to miss the lunch rush. This area is also interesting to walk through as a tourist.
J. S.
Good little pub ! Don't know if i'd make it down the step from the loo after a pint or two !!
M. R.
I have enjoyed many a good pint here over the years. The food is good too. Great character and very friendly service. The bar area is small and it isn't great if you have a compelling need to sit down.
J. C.
An atmospheric and truly historic pub badly let down by a very ordinary pork chop that came after an unexplained twenty-minute delay.
K. K.
Historic, quirky, atmospheric place. Off the beaten track for most tourists, usually used by barristers from the nearby Inns of court. Be aware there are steep windy stairs to the only loo. Lots of interesting memorabilia to examine, especially the legal influenced 50's & 60's film posters. Food nice too!
G. P.
One of a kind pub, love it.
S. S.
Nice selection of beers, tasty Bloody Mary and the food is to die for! The place is always buzzing with the post-work and lunch crowds, so it can be difficult to get a seat sometimes, but the atmosphere is worth it. One of the loveliest little pubs in London.
R. W.
A great old public house behind the Court of Justices. You can feel the history as you drink your beer from a great selection of ales, which are well kept. We had the antipasto which was also very tasty. Highly recommended.
M. F.
Food here is absolutely amazing!!
Very interesting atmosphere and people. It feels as if you are in a movie set or maybe somewhere in the late 70's.
Portions are very generous and staff is friendly.
Very good selection of beers.
s. j.
Really enjoyed my time at the Seven Stars. Staff was friendly and attentive, decor fit perfect with the pub. A very comfortable place. Didn't try any of the food, but there was a good selection on the menu. Probably one of the most amazingly narrow and steep staircases to the loo. I think they should have a rope going up the wall rather than a handrail! Worth a trip just to check out the stairs. Will definitely be back.
M. C.
A nice old pub, a real institution. The food is really tasty, you can tell that the kitchen is really a very small operation but they keep it simple, have a chalkboard with changing dishes, and everything is home-cooked.
M. T.
Visited The Seven Stars pub for lunch late november of 2019. I was entertaining some associates from the area, they mentioned, that they loved the food and service. We chose to stay indoors - to enjoy to beauitful decor. I just want to say that, in addition to a nice meal and cool suds, we had delightful servers, Hollie & Molly. They had just the right balance of friendliness and efficiency. They recognized that we wanted time to visit and did not rush us. Each and every other staff member made certain that we had everything we needed. Kudos!

G. L.
Nice old style pub with good selection of beers. Probably best when you can either stand outside or not too busy a night as it's pretty cramped inside. We were there on a Thursday and by about 8 pm it was OK to be inside. Oh, watch out for the bowls of bar food on the counter as it's more than likely food for the pub cat!
d. m.
Great pub and atmosphere
T. B.
Great old pub with loads of character!
M. R.
What an incredible pub. Unique and quirky, this gem of a bar hidden behind the law courts is well worth a visit. Just do not expect a seat or table as soon as you arrive. Great food and service.
T. D.
Great little pub out the back of the Royal Courts of Justice. Best visited on a sunny evening when you can stand on the street and enjoy the warm glow of sunset on the cream stone buildings around you.
J. C.
Small old fashioned pub, in an olde worlde part of London, great for visiting tourists
D. S.
This ancient pub (dated 1602) pre-dates the Great Fire of London.
Tucked away, immediately north of the Royal Courts of Justice, this tiny pub has an eclectic weekday clientele - boozy barristers and bemused tourists. Weekends are a little quieter!
The pub cat (complete with ruff) normally demands her own bar stool. Chequered table cloths and great pub food.
Not for the claustrophobic as not much room to move around (or swing the cat!) - but a London gem that should be on everyone’s bucket list of great, traditional pubs!
D. H.
This is a fantastic pub and it is full of character. I believe it originates from the 1600's or something- it really does feel like a pub from yesteryear. The food is decent and well priced, the beer is top notch with some great ales as well. The times I've been here I always find I chat to other customers, not sure if this is because it is small a cosy. I did speak to a Canadian woman who claimed she only comes back to London to visit and drink at the Seven Stars.
A pub you MUST try.
J. L.
Great atmosphere and on a warm day you will find the crowds spilling out on the road. Be aware that the toilets are not are hard to access before having a drink and almost impossible after a few drinks. But that really just adds to the character
B. m.
A tiny lovely little pub. A cat sleeps on the counter, the dimmed light, the quiet conversation buzzing around. It is a place that brings thoughts to your mind, a place that has lived, put it simply, it is a lovely place.
J. B.
Great pub in heart of legal London across from back of royal courts of justice adjacent to Lincolns Inn. Tiny old place with loads of character. Great place for post court celebrating or wallowing. Been that way for centuries.
W. M.
It's a neat place to hang out. The environment has a speak easy type of feel to it, which I always think is pretty cool. Staff is friendly and knowledgeable about the products. High energy place. Everybody at this place was so happy and it was all a joyous evening. Definitely would recommend.
I. P.
A true find tucked away, not your normal type of pub which is quite a relief these days.
An excellent menu of home cooked food wets the appetite served up with excellent Beers.
A must for Cat lovers to see the collection of photos of the pub cats past and present and if your lucky you might get to see the current feline!
D. W.
Wow, tiny little pub that when u open the door you're at the bar. Good selection of Ale's and if you stop here I recommend having the Pretzels. We will go back to this place.
G. S.
This little gem is a real find. It is quirky, the food and ambience are great (had pheasant with roast potatoes), reasonably priced and the lady serving at the bar is very helpful & professional. We will come back! :)
M. A.
Great pub, lovely staff and sound pints. They sell cigars and obviously have the amazing cat. What more could you want
T. L.
This has been my go-to pub in the Holborn area of the weather is nice and I’m eager to stand outside. The pub itself is tiny, so you will not be sitting or standing inside, but the outdoor area across the street (behind the Royal Courts) is a great place for an afternoon pint. It’s a quiet area and has a really active atmosphere later in the week when legal types are out in force. Despite being near LSE and KCL, there aren’t usually many students around.
R. B. -. E. k.
Been in the Seven Stars once to meet a legal friend of mine.
But as per a previous review if you have just visited the Hunterian Museum you may just need a stiff Scotch!!
Cozy bar and could do with some renovations but maybe it is good just the way it is.
Lot of legal people in there and it is just behind the Royal Courts of Justice.
Great pub, must go there again, enjoyed it.
J. H.
Probably London's oldest pub, once you discount all the ones that have been rebuilt, or were not a pub for their entire history. An amazing survival given all the upheaval of the surrounding area. Even without this accolade it's still a lovely and atmospheric pub in it's own right.
K. Y.
I came here mainly for the cat, and he was hiding upstairs somewhere. Boo. Well, that's a cat for you. Just be prepared not to see him and you'll be okay.
If you want food, you order at the bar, and then the pleasant staff will bring out your meal. Seven Stars has a few seating areas surrounding the bar but isn't especially large. The two single bathrooms are upstairs; you'll have to brave the teeny staircase.
It was the late afternoon/early evening, so Seven Stars wasn't very crowded. We both ordered the lamb meatballs and penne which was richer and more filling than we'd expected, perhaps a tiny bit oily. I forgot the exact price, but it was around £11. Very satisfying after a lot of walking around the city.
I'm glad I was able to check out this old pub, which according to Wikipedia, dates back to the 1600s!
R. C. H.
Lovely tiny bar. Ancient building (tudoresque?) in sad need of refurbishment - especially the bathrooms. Saying that though it's full of charm and character, with an obvious sense of history in the choice of pictures hanging and memorabilia related to the law institutes that surround it. It's got a pub cat (a new one as the last one died I think) and a grumpy land lady and ta not terribly cheap. I think I really good spruce up is in order, but it's still full of character therefore well worth a trip.
C. v. C.
Comfortable pub, quiet on a weekend (I think), serves excellent Bitburger on tap. There is also a cat, with a pretty collar. I was just told the story of a punter, who mistook this cat's dinner for bar nibbles.
R. W.
The description says 'gastropub' but this has a depth of character that goes beyond that. I stumbled across Seven Stars one Saturday and instantly knew it was a great discovery. Old, tiny, narrow, imperfect in many ways - a perfect old London pub. Great food too. As you sip on your ale you can really sense that many a judge and barrister must have passed through those doors over the centuries. Follow their example, to miss this place would be criminal.
N. S.
Charming historic pub, wonderful food, excellent intelligent staff, and the cook/publican is Roxy Beaujolais, whom I'm devoted to. It's often populated with barristers, LSE people, West End musicians and (for some reason) C of E clerics and organists, so there's usually a supreme if quirky bunch of customers to hang out with. What's not to like? The best time to score a table is for an early weekday lunch. Roxy's good friends show up in droves on weekends.
D. E.
One of the great old pubs of London. On the tourist trial. Serves decent food. Spills out onto the street during summer months, which is useful as space can get tight. Welcoming staff.
C. M.
Food was surprisingly delicious here. I got a pesto linguine with sausage and my friend got a corned beef hash. Best food I think I had while in London, and the place had a really neat ambiance. There was a cat around but he was hiding.
G. S.
Just amazing to think that this tucked away gem pre dates the Great Fire of London by 64 years.
If you are obese or very tall, avoid. It is delightfully quirky but tight. The various books and crannies are made good use of. In house cat sleeps through all.
G. S.
Old classic with best pint of Ghost Ship
A. R.
Great traditional pub with atmosphere. It's a bit small inside but that just add to the warm atmosphere. Interesting selection of beers.
C. M.
A truly exceptional pub, lovely experience - best time I’ve had during my time in London. Strike up a conversation with the regulars or just come for the bar cat.
J. S.
Brilliant pub, tiny & eccentric, do not visit unless you are prepared for an unusual experience. Get there early for lunch or there will be no chairs left. Do not get plastered & then try to make a journey to the loo. Understandably, Roxy does not take any nonsense from anyone, if she did, you would be forced to share a small space with various loud mouthed, opinionated morons, so be thankful. Expect the unexpected. We will definitely be back.
P. D.
Superb pub tucked away behind The Royal Courts of Justice. Better at lunchtime and the weekend when quiet. Sunday lunches are teriffic. Tends to get full of braying legal folk weekday evenings.
V. H.
Amazing pub, amazing character, well kept beer, friendly staff, the food is fantastic, the landlady has pink hair and the cat wears a ruff. It's everything you could want.
R. B.
Nice pub, old fashioned London battle.
Nice staff and ale was good, food looked good. All in all well worth a visit.
g. t.
Sadly peabody the pub cat has passed away...
The staff here are amazing and so is the food, I bring tourists here and am never disappointed..
Good news is that I am assured a new cat is coming soon.
Really friendly place off the beaten path
M. B.
How many of the oldest pubs in London give you the opportunity to pick up free legal advice? The Seven Stars definitely will; it predates the neighbouring Royal Courts of Justice by the small matter of 280 years, and now plays host to crowds of lawyers at the close of day. (by Secretldn)
D. P.
Limited cocktails menu - mainly Maritini and Negronis, but what else do you need! Cigars can be bought at the bar. Amazing little public house.
N. D.
Unique original pub in the heart of the legal district. Very small and cramped but had many original features. Serves fond from a small kitchen on the first floor. Always busy
D. G.
Great pub, love it
P. C.
Excellent traditional pub tucked away in a place that only lawyers usually venture. It's quirky in a good way. Very good staff.
L. P.
This pub is popular with the legal crowd but it's not pretentious and it can be a good spot on a Saturday night when the lawyers have gone home. Tom Paine, the famous ruff-wearing pub cat died last year but has been replaced by Ray Brown, another pub cat happy to wear a ruff.
K. v.
Nice charming place. We had an excellent vegetarian meal of the day.
Don't be surprised the table is sticky, for apparently not thoroughly cleaning is seen as part of the charm.
P. J.
Cozy boozer behind the royal courts of justice... Plenty of legal types frequenting this pub. Has some decent ales and a spot of sun shine outside. Lookout for the resident cat.
A. S.
Small cosy pub for a quick Pint
M. W.
Brilliant little boozer. A right gem. A bit dear, but I suppose that is to be expected in this part of town. There's two issues that the owners might want to consider: 1) There is a strong smell of mildew coming from - somewhere.. and 2) bar stools are really out of place ; uncomfortable and ugly.
D. B.
This is an original pub. Popular with lawyers but don't let that put you off. It has good beer and atmosphere. Try something a bit different.
C. S.
Great pub
L. S.
Love this pub! One of the only pubs in central London that has great ales and atmosphere.. for a reasonable price. Quirky decor and great location.
L. B.
Wonderful historic London pub, with nicely authentic interior. Great beer and menu looked good too.
N. W.
A very pleasant little pub with a cat who wears a ruff. What more could you want. Nice selection of beers, too.
J.
Great, characterful pub that I was delighted to find open on a Sunday even when the 'spoons down the road was not. Excellent pint of Hophead. Top stuff.
L. E. B.
Legend of a pub, good food and selection of beers. An institution, visit on the weekend less busy as you take in the surroundings
F. G.
Such good Authentic French Bistrot style food in an English pub context..the best portobello mushrooms on pate on Baquette I have ever had !
J. R.
One of the smallest and oldest pubs in London. Tucked behind Aldwych and LSE, it is well worth a small detour off the beaten path for a pint.
E. R.
Wonderful old pub steeped in history. Good food and well priced. Good ales too. Really enjoy this place
D.
Nice friendly pub serving great selection of real ales lagers spirits and gins and wines, friendly staff
S. L.
A classic. Stunning pub, decent beer and really interesting food menu. Nice staff, legendary landlady and a cat.
C. W.
Quirky small old style pub. Traditional English food. Place to rub shoulders with the Old Bailey legal profession. Steep stairs up to reach the toilets.
L. C.
Great pub
V. G.
Must visit pub in London, built in 1602
M. C.
One of the hidden gems in central London. Great in the summer when you can stand outside. Very decent pub grub. Love the pub cat!
T. M.
It is OK. Beer was not great and when asked the barman said that we could not taste the beer. First time ever that in a pub a customer is denied to try a different ale...
A. T.
Drinks, friendliness and history aplenty in this quirky old pub. The window displays are wonderful pieces and subjects of good conversations.
J. S.
Great food and beer
F. S.
Great traditional pub, rather small so get there early if you want to sit down
T. M.
Great beer here and great service.

Claimed to have been established in 1602 - in the reign of Elizabeth I (just!). The pub clings on to the south side of Lincoln's Inn - parts of which date back to the 1400s -and this may be the secret to the Seven Stars' longevity. The Great Fire of 1666 destroyed everything to the East of here, the building of the Royal Courts of Justice in the 1870s caused the demolition of everything on the south side of Carey Street, and the Aldwych / Kingsway improvements at the start of the 1900s were responsible for substantial clearances to the west.
As is the norm in London the interior was almost entirely replaced in the Victorian era, and the facade is probably Victorian too, but some of the structure of the building may well date back to the 1600s making this a strong candidate for being the oldest pub in London, still in its original building.
The name is likely a reference to the seven states of the Netherlands, and possibly related to Dutch settlers in the area at the time. Today its clientele are mostly lawyers from the nearby inns of court, and the Royal Courts of Justice.
F. N.
Beautiful historic pub. Next to the court of justice. Good beers. Quaint. The cat inhabiting the pub is great.
S.
One of, if not the best place in London for a drink. The place is quirky but the staff take it to another level for making it friendly and welcome
C. D.
Not the place to go for a quiet pint on a Friday evening but if you get lucky and get a seat, leaving could be difficult.
Cannot imagine being able to tackle the stairs up to the gents after a feed of pints though......
S. S.
Due to the small size not all of my 600 friends could fit in on a particularly cold day. I was inside so did not care as I ate my piping hot supper.
J. A.
Warm, cozy spot. Seems to be a popular post-work spot. We were hoping the famous barrister cat would make an appearance, but sadly, it was a no-show.
F. O.
Old time pub with small bar but good for a swift half in the afternoon. I imagine it gets busy after 5.

Quick stop off from Lincoln Square. Cute bar cat and small, quiet spot so good for chatting with friends or meeting new people.

It was possible to have a sit on a Friday night. They have a good variety of bears and ciders. Terrific place.

Nice old classic pub, only slightly spoiled by an older lady - who I assume must be the owner by the way she assumes command of the space - spouting constant jingoism and opinion.

(Translated) Perfect. Stylish pub near the center but tucked away enough to find a place. The food was very good. I will not evaluate beer, but BUT is not my cup of coffee and enjoying Pilsen in London seems like something totally misleading😁
(Original)
Perfektní. Stylový pub poblíž centra, ale dost zastrceny, takže se tam dá najít místo. Jídlo bylo velmi dobré. Pivo nebudu hodnotit, neboť ALE není můj šálek kávy a dávat si Plzeň v Londýně mi přijde jako něco naprosto scestného😁
D. K.
