Reviews of The Three Compasses, Dalston
J. K.
Lovely atmosphere full of nice people, really good food with a fantastic range of vegan burgers with innovative flavours. The bar staff are great too - no hesitation to change my pint when it tasted a bit funny.
C. C.
Nice and very popular - range of trendy beers (with matching prices). Friendly young crowd.
Quiz night was a bit of a pain but folks were enjoying it (clearly regulars) and it seemed fun - for them ;)
Seem to be quite a few DJ nights with a good mix - pardon the pun. Will defiantly be returning.
S. P.
We came here last Sunday to watch the footie (the less said about that the better). We found it to be spacious and felt like they had thought about the Covid rules and really stuck to them. The screens were big for the match, the service was quick and thorough and the house wine was nice. We didn’t eat as we had just been for a roast but it looked like burger and chips sort of deal nothing fancy. There’s an area out front for smoking. It wasn’t overly busy at that point although I know it can get busy here. I wouldn’t say this is a family place and I couldn’t tell if it was dog friendly but certainly a good place to come for a boozey drink with friends or to watch the football
S. B.
Laid back pub with relaxed atmosphere during the week, busier on the weekend. There's some outdoor seating at the front which is cosy and has heaters. The pub has a decent menu, I recommend the vegan burgers!
J. D.
Ive ALWAYS loved this place, had many good night here, the quiz is really fun, lots of beers to pick from. Nice outside table area for smoking. And the filthy buns guys cooking up a storm in the small kitchen, such good burgers.
F. M.
Great pub in the middle of Dalston. There is a decent outside area, great spot in summer.
Decent size inside too.
H. H.
Love this pub! Great relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff and fantastic burgers (separate supplier). Been there mainly for the Tuesday quiz and will soon be back!
S. S.
Great atmosphere to watch sporting events with drinks and freshly made hot burger.. Will definitely visit again...
Toilet could be better tho, hence the 4*
O.
Regularly attend at the quiz on Tuesdays - such a good night and quiz host, Tom is funny! Pub is friendly - good night overall on Tuesdays
C. “. A.
It's great to be out right now but it's the burgers that are too good!
K. B.
Friendly service and delicious food! The miso aubergine burger was amazing, delicately spiced and had a slightly Thai taste to it! And halloumi popcorn was brilliant slightly smokey flavour! Good choice of lagers and craft ales!
N. H.
Drooping bushels dress the sun trap frontage. Small picnic tables sit out side it’s pleasant wooden face. Inside are blood red walls, with a thick bar to the left. Games of backgammon, cheese and trivia pile in he corner. Stubby round tables crowd the central space, as 2 televisions are pitched directly the infront and too the right of the main entrance. Within a stones throw of dalston market it definitely worth dropping in for a tipple, meal or catching Spurs.
C. J.
Great pub. Pub quiz on a Tuesday is best in London. Livens up on Friday and Saturday too.
T. L.
Small friendly pub, popular, gets very busy. Friendly staff. Very dim lighting which could do with going up up just a notch. Worth a visit. Great choice of beers.

The Three Compasses
📍 99 Dalston Ln, Kingsland, London, E8 1NH
🚇 Dalston Junction/Kingsland
🍺 £5.00 Crate IPA
❤️ The Three Compasses is just a short walk from either overground station in Dalston and you can take a walk through the lively Ridley Road market if you fancy visiting on a Saturday afternoon. I popped in to watch Chelsea Barcelona game in the champions league and there was a good crowd in and the place was lively. I have been told my beer choice is a bit mundane so I tried the locally brewed Crate IPA which was a decent pint and really enjoyed it, I must stay more adventurous with my beer selection! The pub is low lit and has a nice vibe about it with a trendy crowd in attendance, don’t like using the word trendy but it’s only because I’m not 😀. I have to say the burger I had was amazing by the chefs of Gone Burger but I understand they have moved on from here. All in all not a bad little boozer.

Great atmosphere, excellent beers and burgers and a Tuesday night pub quiz - what's not to like
D. M.
Best pub, best staff, best pint, best entertainment and best burgers, meat and vegan!!!! Do not miss out!!
A. S.
Went there on a Monday night and it just happened to be a burger and pint deal for 10 pounds. We took advantage of this and ordered a couple of the spicy beef burgers which were awesome. Beer was one of two choices which were ok but the burger was great. No fries served with it though which would have made the burger even better! #BeatTheGrind
H. T.
Great pub. Heard the burgers are great but sadly missed last order. We were allowed to eat our own food though and had great tofu stuff from ridley road
B. W.
Vegan burgers are absolutely phenomenal, best I’ve ever had - still not convinced mine wasn’t chicken haha. Great beers on tap and nice staff 👍
W. C.
Fabulous music and good fun food. The ambience is my favourite. With smooth Jaz, RnB, Soul Classics and small friendly team. Quiet inside and out door space. Government guidelines in place. Returning very soon as the weather holds up. Check it out as you will not be disappointed, bless
K. H.
Laid back pub. Great pub quiz on a Tuesday! Good burgers - great vegan burger selection.
A. R.

l. m.
Nice pub, nice atmosphere, good selection of draft beer, reasonable service. Had katsu chicken burger, fries and smoked gravy mayo. Burger was decent, fries ok, smoked gravy mayo fantastic.
M. S.
Classic old style pub not changed since the locals all but left. Good clean beer and the burgers are very good. Good atmosphere in here still keeping it real.
A. G.
Great old school pub, nice atmosphere, great people and their resident chefs, Filthy Buns, make some of London's best burgers! What's not to love?
B. B.
Burgers in this place are SO good. Great pub too.
M. S.
This is a fantastic local pub with amazing service from the bar staff and the kitchen staff/ chef are incredible. Delivered my delicious burger with a smile, checked back with me on how it was, an all round awesome experience! Thanks guys, you made our Saturday afternoon! Definately order food, I had the 'smokin gun' burger and there are also amazing veggie and vegan options :)
S. L.
Love that Gone Burger is here, such good burgers recommend trying one. So delish plus meat, vege and vegan options. The fries are divine.
T. C.
I walked past when started raining so I took a shelter in that pub. That was excellent decision. I had few pints and tried food. Excellent burgers. Couple weeks later and I’m here again. Superb food and excellent service. We are living in very difficult time because of COVID but this place follows all safety rules so go there and enjoy. In August from Monday to Wednesday 50% off up to 10£ per person on food and soft drinks.
Must go there.
R. H.
Love this place. Nice setting, good beer and really nice burgers with as many veggie options as meat ones. Great atmosphere when the football is on, and they put it on two big screens so you always have a good view.
Z.
Vegan burgers are amazing!! My favourite local, happy people and welcoming staff, Chef Rob was particularly memorable (thanks for the ice cream!). Decent covid rules/layout etc, does get busy though
K. A.
have no idea why this place does not have higher reviews, everything in London has 4.2. some of the best burgers I've had in London (honest can go f themselves, four legs at compton arms is the only competition imo) and amazing staff! we hung out for hours and had food and saw the amazing staff navigate the difficult situation with covid and laddy-lad-lads yell at them about being too many at a table (not their fault, it's literally the law). they maintained poise and integrity, serving amazing food and drinks with smiles and warmth. special shout-out to two dudes in pony-tails and beards, and Irish guy with beard!
j. y.
Love this pub. Been here many times for the football, parties and just to hangout with friends in. The burgers are great and the veggie burger is pretty special too. All the regular beers you’d expect with Beaver Town, Camden hells etc. Very comfortable bar to be in and the crowd is always friendly as are the staff.
P. K.
Great pub. Good selection of local craft beer. Awesome atmosphere for watching the football. The burgers are amazing. Nice little beer garden out the front too.
J. T.
Really nice selection of beverages, and the vegan burgers from filthy buns are incredible!
J. C.
Súper nice pub with one of the best burgers I’ve had in London. Nice food and drink presentation and follows all the safety procedures for Covid protection. Nice pub, we’ll become regulars ;)
J. D.
Great for watching the rugby in the morning. We arrived to watch England play Argentina in the rugby World Cup. They didn't serve hot drinks but said we could nip out to a nearby coffee shop and bring them in. Nice touch. We bought a couple of orange juices (£1.50 each) and enjoyed the game!
Can't speak much for the beers or evening vibe, but others seem to be positive.
k. M.
The pub we all wish was around the corner. Pop in here any night for an authentic and warm vibe and well kept beer. Great neighbourhood feeling, and a lot of conviviality between the excellent staff and the crowd.
H. H.
Amazing plant based food (also non plant) and service. I won't rate 5 starts because I wish they had more tables outside but you can't have it all.
T. S.
Bloody great burgers and great spot to watch sport
L. j.
My favourite pub in Hackney! It's got a real local pub vibe to it...very friendly, and they do an awesome Campari Spritz. Very popular quiz on a Tuesday, and DJs playing the hits at the weekend (lots of 80s and 90s stuff)...nice beer garden out the front. Ooo and the food is always spot on
S. N.
One of the best pubs in Hackney. Great memories of watching Twin Peaks screenings here. Bar staff open to screening things in future apparently. Burgers are great, beer good, especially Crate Cider. Dartboard, outside seating at the front, and really good space inside. Can't find a better pub to sit in round Dalston.
A.
The best Pub in Hackney! Lovely staff, a really good variety of beers and drinks that are very reasonably priced! Good food options. Great pub quiz!
T. D.
This has been a great pub for many years, but no seems to be a bit of a victim of its own success. Most of the tables in the evening are now booked up, the place really smells and the formerly great music taste has gone. Hopefully with some small changes it could get back to its former great days.
T. L.
This is a fabulous pub where all ages can come together and enjoy their night. The pub has hard working staff and a manager who provides a variety of entertaining nights. The food is pretty good too.
N. A.
The three compasses is a hidden treasure in Hackney. This friendly old school pub has excellent food (everything home made) and fantastic atmosphere. The staff is super friendly and went out of their way to make us feel welcome. We had a great New Year’s Eve party and loved the music, happy 2020!
C. D.
Decent beers (although fairly ££) and the burgers are very good - proper aged beef. Always a friendly crowd. The quiz is also great
J. S.
It's hip as hell, and has incredible range of awesome beers. Don't come here expecting luxury decor and a cosy romantic date. Come here to not enjoy beer and a relaxing cool crowd . I am not cool. So enjoyed a few beers before slipping away :) secretly one of my favourite drinking holes which i should go to more often.
J. G.
Best Dalston Pub in my opinion. Great Food and Drink. Served Camden Hells and Lawless as well as awesome burgers. Game of Thrones Screenings also had a great atmosphere with people dressing up for the occasions.
B. T.
Nice local pub with a relaxed atmosphere, but the Bloody Mary and the roast were a bit average. It's ok, but if that's what you are planning for your Sunday I'd go elsewhere. They can accommodate for larger groups though so can be worth for that!
D. L.
Good little boozer, does some impressive burgers too.
E. s.
Came here last night and it has a great selection of beers on tap and was playing wonderfully cheesy 80s music. Eclectic furniture and lovely atmosphere. The only slight downer was the service without a smile, but really great place for a drink with friends!
T. C.
Prices are a bit high for both food and drink, but I expect they want a certain clientele, had and enjoyable mid-week drink and burger there. Decor and layout reminded me of a pub in Ireland, definitely a more traditional feel which was welcome, selection of beers were satisfactory, will use again.
M. J.
Glad to hear some other people singing the praises of the Three Compasses. This is my local pub and I totally love it. It's a local in the city. A real mixture of people of different ages not just a hipster parade.
Really friendly atmosphere, chilled atmosphere on weekdays, then it really kicks off on Friday when they usually have a DJ spinning some good tunes. I like it best on Sunday afternoon, sitting around drinking bloody marys and playing backgammon.
They serve a menu of burgers, just burgers, but they're filthy lovely. Great to shovel down whilst you're having a few drinks.
Drinks selection is good as well - lots of local brews from London which I like to see. Some Hackney stuff, some Camden stuff etc.
Recommended.
A. S.
Decent beer selection, both cask and keg beers available from a variety of local microbreweries. Some serious burgers on the menu as well. I opted for the piggy, a bacon cheese burger, and it was very tasty indeed! They could do with throwing some chips on the side for the price, though.
S. S.
Great pub, great atmosphere... a locals local in East London ! The kitchen residents ‘Cut & Grind’ make really good burgers & it’s best roast I’ve had in London ! Good music & DJ’s on weekends, always many friendly faces, would highly recommend!
M. P.
Very nice burgers and very friendly staff. Unfortunately, one of the burgers we wanted could not be served because they were out of pulled pork but the chef came out and told us and he was very friendly and nice. The pub is not well maintained and doesn't look nice.
H. F.
Popped in for a swift couple of pints. Really nice place, good beer selection including local Five Points beers, and really friendly bar staff.
Cracking little spot - don't be put off by unassuming exterior!
W. W.
Great local pub with good range of beers and hands down the best burgers in the area. Vegan and veggie options are as well thought out as the meaty. Laid back but super friendly staff too.
A. D.
Super relaxed atmosphere with friendly staff and a reliably sociable crowd of punters. Food is great and greasy and it's never too long 'til the next knees up kicks off. Exactly what a modern East End boozer should be.
N. C.
Great pub. Everything u need. Plus good covid measures in place. Filthy buns burgers are amazing, no joke.
M. W.
Great management of covid related challenges. Amazing (but dangerously a strong 6.7%) Beavertown IPA with great burgers from pop-up Filthy Buns.
m. 1.
Just brilliant. Bar staff are cool and knowledgeable, massive selection of spirits and a good range of craft ales. Food is always way above top class and they always have good tunes!
T. t. K.
Would not bother with the happy ending, good pub fine beers good enough 👌👌
D.
Dark and odd looking from the outside but cosy when it fills up. Slightly odd smell but you get used to it. Good for sport on a Saturday day then a particularly Dalstonite crowd takes over from about 7pm. Good, if now standard beer selection for the pale ale gent/lady. Probably avoid the burgers though, been disappointed a couple of times.
D. S.
Cool pub with welcoming atmosphere and very friendly bar staff. I have been a couple of times and always had excellent service. Drinks were served promptly. This is a great choice in Dalston and I definitely recommend it
D. M.
Great spot for watching the football, good burgers, a game of jenga and a cheeky pub boogie sesh. Had the ginger-beer-battered halloumi fries the other day and they were absolutely banging!
Always busy on match days so with getting there ahead of time of you want a primo seat.
A. C.
A good pub. Great beer selection. Sport. Very tasty burgers and outside seating.
C. D.
Decent beer selection. Friendly attitude free bar, excellent burgers and fries on offer (thankfully not the horrible shoestring sort but much more like proper chips)
R. M. S.
Fantastic indie pub in Dalston with a great quiz night on Tuesdays, but the beer selection could be a bit more varied beyond lagers and pale ales, and the chicken nuggets were not all that great for the price.
E. B.
Amazing pub food and excellent service. Would definitely recommend 🙂🙂
J. G.
Definitely a pub for east London 30-somethings. Three Compasses is a great place for a drink and an excellent place to take in a special event. They do a lot of TV shows and music events.
F. B.
Really cool pub off the backstreets off Dalston offering a great selection of beers. Cozy atmosphere with great music. Food is also a high point here and must be tried if you're in. Staff are always friendly.
G. W.
Great burgers, good beer selection. Outside space is to the front on Dalston Lane so it's busy but good for peaople watching. Gets very busy on match days, good djs later on Friday/Saturday.
D. U.
Came in to watch football. Decent beers. Friendly helpful and attentive staff. Burgers are incredible.
K. G.
Went for the pub quiz and it just felt very unorganised and messy. The pub itself has good beers and the food is good.
In response to owner, we attended the quiz in May. Thanks! :)
D. D.
LOVE this place! Always my pub of choice when in the area! Great beers, unreal burgers, fun staff and great music!
S. A. S.
Good beer and friendly staff. Defo worth a visit 😊
N. B.
Nice and friendly local pub in Dalston.
They have Gamma Ray on tap which is a great pale ale and the food is pretty decent too, Sunday roasts and Burgers every week.
C. S.
Truly amazing burgers here, some of the best you'll find in London
M. W.
Go for the beers stay for the burgers
T. P.
Nice little cosy spot to have a burger and a pint. I’ve had a collection of cool nights here. It can get quite intense around sporting events. A nice one to go and banter the night away
E. L.
Not a bad little pub, always a good atmosphere and busy on the weekends. Punts are a bit pricy, fiid is also ok. Again a bit pricy. But fir a pub in that area it's all ok. I keep going back so it can't be bad.
p. s.
Great food and at a very reasonable price
H.
always love it when the whole building loses power
I. G.
Great beers and great burgers. I challenge you to find a better local. Tuesday evenings is also showtime with twin peaks televised on the big screen.
C.
This place is classic British 'old man' pub, except the regulars are friendly, the bar staff are very welcoming and they do a fab £2 a pint deal at certain times.
B. A.
Nice quaint little pub. The food is really good but it can get a bit crowded. Cannot express enough how good the burgers and chips are though, for a reasonable price
A. B.
Great staff, great selection of beer, nice garden
M. D.
Great pub for sports. Good ales on tap.
S. R.
10/10 on staff, Guinness, ambience, drinks range & burgers.
C. D.
Lively Friday night with a mix of regulars & visitors enjoying music from vinyls. Some danced, some drank, some did both. Cool but friendly.
K. H.
If you want a beer in the busy area of Ridley Road market, or if the hustle and bustle is intimidating you (but why should it?) this pub will be for you. Featuring tested London craft beer stalwarts you'll be ok.
S. B.
Great little pub. Quiet during the day but can get pretty busy on weekend evenings. Shows sport.
M. R.
Good pub. Like it a lot. Although less so now they don't do Sunday Roasts on a Sunday ( they were amazing). They still do pretty good burgers though.
A. C.
Great pub, the staff is friendly, large selection of beer, awesome burgers... And they show tv shows like GoT and Twin Peaks
L. H.
Great covered and heated patio, very good service, and tasty food.
J. W.
Had another great night in this lovely booze. Properly looked after us despite us being a big party. Food was spot on as usual. Can't go wrong.
A. J.
Great beer selection and cozy atmosphere. Good (though expensive) 'Stephen Fries" burger - freshly made and satisfyingly rare.
A. O.
I seen a video on tiktok of your filthy buns and we plan to drive from Devon to visit here in 2 weeks just to try 😋
O. M.
Great pub, love this place.
Nice atmosphere, friendly service and good food!
I would recommend, enjoy!
P. B.
It’s a superb pub! No thrills and always a great vibe in the evenings and surprisingly good food.
J. O.
Good local. Kept the proper pub style including dart board. Good for watching events or swift half in the evening.
S. B.
Good food - really interesting and delicious burgers.
m.
Fantastic burgers... We will definitely visit again on our next visit to london.
R. J.
LE BUN AT THE THREE COMPASSES
Burgers burgers, everywhere. London's love affair with all things Americana shows no sign of slowing down any time soon and it seems that every corner you turn, you'll find a rib shack, burger bar or BBQ rustling up buns of varying degrees of success. The Burger Awakening only struck me a year or so ago so I'm a little slow on the uptake of the various outlets but the only one on my list worth writing home about (and revisiting) is MeatMission. Until now.
Le Bun is stealing the show. Fresh from winning Sky and Samsung's Launching People and a two month residency at the Old Bengal Bar, Le Bun have taken over Dalston Pub The Three Compasses to offer fast food French-style. Last night was their launch party, and with the promise of great food, 50% off and killer tunes, it was suitably rammed.
With no time to lose, we did what four sensible people do when offered six options - order one of each and dive right in. I kicked off with the Le Bourguignon Bun (I was swayed by the promise of bacon salt, champagne slaw and truffle mayo) and practically inhaled it, it was so good. The slow-cooked meat was deliciously melt in the mouth with a great depth of flavour from the glaze; crunchy cabbage slaw added that bit of tang and the saltiness from the bacon and truffle rounded everything off. The rest of the team didn't even get a look in.
Le Duck Frites Bun was equally as sumptuous with crispy straw fries packed straight into the bun, whilst Le Chevre managed to serve up a whole wedge of oozing goats cheese, topped with that biting crunchy slaw for good measure. Le Royale With Cheese sold out pretty sharpish and passed the boys' meat test (ie. plenty of it) and this time, I was the one who missed out.
We didn't stop there. After catching up with the brains behind Le Bun (Tim Talbot and Andy Taylor) we just couldn't resist even more food. So out came three sliders and Le French Onion Dog - the first three were 'down in one' affairs (see the boys about to get stuck in) and the dog we shared, all grinning beatifically. Also, who fries parsley? It's genius!
These guys have got the burger thing down, I'm a total convert. They're sticking with The Three Compasses for a while and are also running Taco Tuesdays (self explanatory, right?), Steak Frites nights on Wednesdays complete with Red Wine Roulette and a toasty winter garden to wrap up in. Whilst you're out there, try one of the crazily moreish winter warmers from Kamm & Sons - I fell in love with the Hot Roots so have one for me.
Le Bun, I salute you. Cinq out of cinq. Bravo.
A. O.
Great atmosphere in this pub. Friendly staff and customers. Good tunes, tasty beers and food.
H. R.
The roast in a bun on a Sunday is delicious - and cauliflower nuggets. Great little pub!
V. M.
Cool bar, regular visit on the first Saturday of the month as they have really good resident DJ playing!
P. H.
Excellent local pub with friendly staff, amazing beers and great food. They also do screenings of tv shows from time to time!

J. J. H.
Always brilliant staff. Great selection of drinks they understand. Brilliant food pop ups. And a great genuine no frills boozer.
M. S. W.
This place is great is you're into football! Music in the breaks, commentary when the game is on. Just the way I like it. Service and food also really good!!
O. S.
The staff and customer service is amazing and the food was delicious. filthy buns ( edited) was the pop up on when I was there.
k. s.
Great beer and Good prices for the city centre, located conveniently in the bustling heart behind regent Street. Will drink here again
M. S.
Outstanding burgers (some of the best in London), easygoing if slow service, and a spartan atmosphere that doesn't live up to the food.
L. M.
Great pub with a really friendly and happy atmosphere. Ace DJ last night, good tunes all night.
M. P.
Good selection of beers when open, although pricey, but Google says it's open until 12:30am on a Wednesday when it's not - just turned up at 23:01 & staff said it was closed.
M. W.
If you’ve got short trousers, a 90’s top, a tash & your reebok classics from when you were 12, you’ll fit in. You wont be judged at the door... just every minute after that.. #hipsterhaunt
J. C.
Well kept ales, interesting kitchen residencies, and a top landlady! A great, friendly pub that I wish was my local.

I did enjoy my time here....yes, the staff is nice no matter what the hairy faces and tiny feet say. Don't mind the hipsters
J. H.
Nice place. Traditional and unpretentious feeling pub and bar with a good atmosphere and friendly staff.
T. F.
Cool, but a bit expensive for the kinda gaff where market traders used to drink. Bit of a tramp infestation problem too. I like it....
J. M.
Fine beer selection. Good burgers. Usually the right level of busy.
A. A.
Great atmosphere and the food was amazing, best vegetarian burger I've had in ages
b. d.

Nice open plan pub dull lit. Great place for a beer outside when it’s sunny

Lively pub on weekends. Not cheapest, but not bad for the area. Have djs on the weekend. And film/TV themed night in the week.
M. “. O. K.
Nice pub nestled out of the way. Good range of beers, friendly & knowledgeable staff
S.
Food is surprisingly good here. Nice outside seating area to people watch in the summer.
