Reviews of Turner's Old Star

Great place to watch a match. We saw F1 finale, and the atmosphere was great and good service. The multiple speakers were echoing a little though.
N. D.
Wonderful little pub with a real welcome. A couple of cask ales and keg beers. Fun karaoke night every other week. Has an interesting history and was once owned and run by the famous artist Turner
P. J.
Spent a lot of my time in the Turner's on my recent trip back to London.
A great local, warm atmosphere and a good range of drinks at a good price.
Highly recommended if you find yourself down Wapping way..
J. J.
Great pub great at atmosphere, traditional pub style. Loans of history is the place. Movie spot of legend. All’s best pint of Guinness in London, I’m an Irish man so I should know
J. S.
Good locals pub. A little rough around the edges but friendly and welcoming. Pool table available which is rare in a pub these days.

❤️ Wapping is not a place I visit very often, Its not somewhere I pass through. There are only a few pubs left to visit here so I decided this day to make a pilgrimage to Turners Old Star. It’s just a short walk from Wapping Station and through a couple of streets lined by converted warehouses and then you arrive at Wapping Green where the pub sits perched on the corner. The pub is named after it’s famous former owner Joseph Turner one of Britain’s most celebrated painters, the pub was originally two cottages which Turner converted in to a tavern back in the 1830’s. The pub has a recent claim to fame as it was featured in a scene in the Kray film Legend.
.
I visited on a Friday afternoon and it was fairly quiet here and I had the pub pretty much to myself. This boozer has a lovely traditional feel about it with a gorgeous bar a wood floor and stained glass windows. You could tell when you’re in a well run pub who caters for all it’s punters with a well maintained dart board and pool table as well as the beer. Plenty of sports on offer on the telly too to while away a weekend afternoon.
.
Things are very tough now right now for everyone and the pub trade is really feeling the pinch. I realise there is a nervousness for some people about venturing out to pub right now but if you enjoy these wonderful establishments they need your support today as they might not be here tomorrow.

Great pub. Two local ales complement the other lagers and both nice. Decent screens for football. Pool table. As you want from a traditional pub.
R. K.
One of the only remaining authentic pubs in the East End. A must visit if you are in the area, welcoming landlord and staff, great garden and pool table.
K. P.
Very good pub... Beer wasn't expensive yet good quality. Supplied food for a corporate hockey match and was well appreciated. Definitely worth a visit any day of the week or weekend
J. C.
Fantastic family owned pub. Classic, cosy interior. Nice outside spaces. The pub is across from the park so a great place to get a drink and sit outside. One of my favourite pubs in London
G. F.
A quaint local pub with a local people ambience and crowd. Nice to go there for a drink if you a local and you like locals and the people around.

Decent little quiet pub with a pool table which kept us all entertained! Beer selection is okay but doesn’t offer as many as other local pubs. However, it is only a small pub so for what they have is great.
E. J.
A little late in posting this review, but we stopped in this little pub to watch the England v. Tunisia World Cup game and had a grand time! As my husband and I were on holiday in London, we loved being able to cheer on the English team in an English pub! The food was good, the staff was friendly, and the pub was clean. We’d most certainly visit again if we travel back to London.

Best Guinness in London. Hands down. Paul, the owner is the nicest bar owner I've met. Also, big claim to fame in that pub with movies like 'Legends' filmed there
O. S.
Nice little pub with back garden and decent amount of seating area and big screens. Now you can play ping-pong at the table due to covid screen protectors 😂👌 see picture attached.

I've lived in the area for over 15 years. And it was the first time I went. Sat outside and was pleasantly surprised. Will definitely go back
P. B.
Lovely local wish there were more pubs like this. I'll be looking for and excuse to come back.

Great staff, Guvnor legend, great beer garden and Amazing BBQ in there Best Burgers and hot dogs me and my pals ever had at England game. Well done the girls in beer garden running things in the Rain.

Lovely local wish there were more pubs like this. I'll be looking for and excuse to come back.

One of the few pubs that has got its covid setup spot on. App works well, well sheltered (but still ventilated) garden and still feels like a pub. If they are full they are happy to do takeaway.
K. M.
Fantastic local pub! Great atmosphere with friendly attentive staff and good prices. Will definitely be returning!
A. M.
On our way to the Viktor Wynd museum, we stopped here to enjoy a coffee (what a strange idea we had). The staff was very nice and friendly, we got our drinks seating in the main room, watching the old ceiling, the paintings hanging on the walls. We didn't try the beers (had too many before) but they have at least 3 craft beers at the bar.
m. m.
Great local pub with friendly bar staff

A classic sports pub at Wapping. Spacious garden, we could find a table even at busy times. Haven't tried food. Polite and fast service.

A good old fashioned pub. Good selection of beers, not all the standard run if the mill, and all at reasonable London prices.
R.
Great pub and atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing prices
we watched football there and really enjoyed it
S. W. R.
Fabulous pub trying to keep trading in lockdown. Nice beer and a friendly landlord. I sincerely hope his neighbours help him stay open; it's hard for everyone.
T. L.
A lovely old east end pub - but way off any beaten track. We went later in afternoon and it was pleasant. The beer was OK, although the Stella was off that day! Would go again if I were in the area.
N. L.
A year after my previous comments, this place remains the best in town! Incredibly warm - and inclusive! - welcome, delightfully cheering and breezy staff and a toasty warm atmosphere. Treat yourself (and friends) to a tipple from the extensive gin shelf. Cheers!
S. C.
I had a really good time - watched the football, had a few great beers, atmosphere was great!
E. B.
Great little pub with a covered area with big screen and a great beer garden.
Y. 4.
Cracking boozer from an era when pubs were pubs . Authentic and real. Not a retro bar trying too hard to be the real deal. Nice beer and at a reasonable price too. Definately add it to your list. Appeared in Tom Hardy's film legend. Stand in the foot prints of the stars.
G. T.
This a pub I am enjoying for a few years now. I'm not a local however when I'm in Wapping I enjoy going to here. Staff are great and drinks top. At a Friday but also Saturday eve there are many wannabe hipsters so you don't see me lol. But it's a fun and friendly atmosphere otherwise
J. S.
Had a great evening. Lovely staff and friendly atmosphere
P. T.
Always been a great local pub, but they've been an amazing welcome distraction during the past few weeks.
J. T.
Proper pub. Good beer.
V. S.
Lovely bar right around the corner. They have some seating outside. You can even take your drink and chill in the park right across 😊👍🏻
P. B.
Pub doesn't really look like something as old I expected, it is just a normal place with TV and beer.
K. M.
Probably the nearest thing that you will get to a traditional workaday London pub in theses parts. Congenial ambience. Little signs of 'gentrification'. Small beer garden at back. Almost empty weekday lunchtimes but crowded evenings and weekends.
Would I patronise again ? Yes if I happened to be in the area. But I would not go out of my way to do so.
J. B.
Nice old pub. No Turners left that I noticed though.
T. w.
Turner's is an absolute must if you want a drink in a proper London boozer. Friendly staff and customers. Miss it and you've missed out.
P. D.

Great local pub in Wapping, superbly kept real ale, a treat. Friendly staff and atmosphere.

Good old school boozer but with a nice mixed crowd, not suspicious locals that stare when you go in. Lacks the river view of other local pubs, but has a nice garden and a much more genuine atmosphere
C. K.

Traditional
D. S.
This has to be one of the few remaining traditional East End pubs in Wapping. It’s named after the celebrated English painter Joseph Turner, who developed the original ‘Old Star’ tavern in 1851, after converting two cottages that he had inherited.
The pub underwent a major yet sympathetic refurbishment in 1987 and was then renamed as a tribute to its original owner. Today it sells a good selection of well kept real ales and has large screens for watching live sports. For me the latter is a little too intrusive, but these things are a matter of personal taste. Nevertheless, this classic, historic pub Is definitely worth seeking out.
