Reviews of Williamson'S Tavern
C. B. K.
Great little pub with the traditional feel. Quite nice when it’s not too crowded, especially for after work catch up and bites. Food was good and exactly what we needed.
Nice selection of beers on taps too.
D. T.
A most fine, rambling historical drinking place with many royal connections, destroyed by the Great fire of 1666 (see Sam Pepys for ref). William III and Mary II dined here and left some wrought iron gates as a tip (how things have changed!). Lovely attentive staff help your occasion here, the beer is good, both keg and cask. A fine visit, I recommend to all.
D. O.
Was good, just a shame it was so empty (eerily so). But overall, nice classic pub-feeling, plenty of tables and two bars (only one was in use when we went). Only one female toilet (as far as I could see).
S. S.
One of my favourite city pubs. Always lots of staff behind the bar. Plenty of seating, good selection of beers and room to stand outside if preferred.
A. D.
Great pub with a nice outdoor seating arrangement operated by a team of very polite and friendly people. Definitely recommended if you're in the area and looking for a nice place to hangout.

This pub restaurant, it's very nice. I recommend this location 🍔🍺🍻🍷🤪
S. G.
Very welcoming and friendly. Good service and food. Nice little find slightly off the beaten track.
F. L.
Great friendly London pub and historic too . So worth a visit ...food is pies which are lovely and so apt 👌
D. S.
Lovely looking pub, tucked away in an alley off Bow Lane. A bit of a discovery for tourists but all local workers know it so it does get very busy at times. A myriad of spaces add to its appeal.
A gripe of mine is the number of Nicholson’s-owned pubs in close proximity - so no variety in the selection of beers nor the food menu. Saying that, prices are reasonable for the area.
Friendly staff and nice ambience (particularly during winter months) are a positive. Poor WiFi connectivity is a negative, as you need a phone signal to receive the WiFi code.
J. D.
So this is an interesting pub. Up a small alleyway, with nothing to suggest it's there until you're upon it. There are two bar areas with one having more atmosphere than the other. There's a decent selection of ales and the usual gin suspects. Food is good. The bar snacks are particularly good value.
One issue on my visit on a Tuesday evening was that the bar staff were overworked and service was slow. One lady behind the bar served for a good few minutes at one end of the bar without looking up and making eye contact to see who was waiting, so would suggest they invest in some staff training.
J. V.
Great dark bar 👌😎 down the alley. The locals came in Mass after work and we still got our pies out really quick! Wanted to try the diversity of meat pies but they were out of beef and lamb pies so we had to settle on chicken. The food was good and the service was pleasant.
A. B.
Nice pub, lots of space to go with a group and the staff was quite friendly and helpful, you have the expected variety of drinks between spirits and beers so give it a try
J. S.
Great food at good prices, friendly staff , we will return
L. B.
We went to the Williamsons last week to have some drinks and food. Really nice atmosphere and lovely food. Really nice outside area and amazing staff specially Ari she was lovely and made our evening more special. Definitely a great spot in the middle in the city. Worth a visit!
J. J.
We had the best time, nice beer, good selection of ales and great atmosphere. Thank you to Ari who took care of us through the evening. Definitely recommend!
D. H.
Quieter pub in a area but outside space is for smokers
V. M.
Great place to stop for a drink when in the area. Even though it's hidden away, it can get quite busy, but always a good time had here. When it's quiet it feels cosy, when busy, it feels lively. Good selection of drinks, and food.
A. M.
Lovely pub in the heart of the city tucked away up a side alley. We went there on a Tuesday evening for a meal expecting it to be relatively quiet - it was not! So, not ideal for eight people eating together. In the end, we resorted to platters just to make things easier. So that would be my only criticism - make sure it's reasonably quiet if you want to sit down and have a nice meal. But, that's London for you!
d. s.
Visited twice and enjoyed both visits, nice decor and good beer at a reasonable price, friendly staff, good service. I will definitely return.
P. S.
A bit of a rarity in that it's tucked down an alley, 4 minutes from the cathedral and mercifully a little quiet if you catch it early on in the evening and want the luxury of sitting down with your pint while being able to hear someone talk, something a lot of Londoners are totally unaccustomed with. It's a good, dark British pub.
M. L.
I've been using this pub since 1969 and it has never disappointed. Nowadays it serves a range of well kept beers at very reasonable prices. The bar snacks are up to scratch, if not exceptional. Always a pleasant experience.
B. B.
Very historic pub tucked down a little alleyway in the City, great beer selection and very friendly staff! Love their dinning room which we've also used for private parties. Great gem!
C. P.
Great little secret pub in the heart of London. Traditional decor that creates a relaxing and inviting atmosphere, with friendly staff and usually pretty quick service. I wasn't too keen on the food served but that's more of a personal preference rather than an issue with the pub.
D. B.
Very pleasant good real ale 🍺
M. M.
Work Lunch, the pies are amazing.
R. R.
Nice space and a maze-like layout all hidden down a tiny passageway. The basement area is great for meetings/private events, quiet and very private. Upstairs is a good atmosphere with little spaces tucked away so it feels cosier and smaller than it is.
N. D.
Really liked this place, tucked away down a small alley by Mansion House Tube Station. It’s huge inside but the phone signal was so bad that I couldn’t connect to the free WiFi!!! Raining outside so I didn’t want to walk around trying to get a signal.
Bar staff were friendly and good choice of drinks. Food menu looked too heavy for my taste.
D. H. (.
Pleasant atmosphere, well kept ales, space, not too noisy
R. J.
This place is a great find. It's tucked away down an alleyway of Bow Lane, so it is close to St Paul's Cathedral. One great thing about it is that it's air conditioned in the back bar, which makes quite a difference on the, admittedly few, really hot summer days. The service is friendly, albeit sometimes the staff seem a little rushed but they manage to cope. The food comes quickly if you are having lunch or an evening snack. My only gripe, and it is a very minor one, is that one of my party had a food intolerance and we had to wait for the manager to go up to the office to "check on the computer" as to which food she could have. Would be good if this was on the menu as it would have saved us time. But aside from that, the food was excellent and the staff friendly.
R. W.
Being tucked away down a discrete alley this pub suffers slightly less with the post work overcrowding that blights the other pubs in the area. The staff weren't knowledgeable about what beer they had and weren't particularly on the ball generally. The pies on the menu are actually pretty good.
M. B.
I love this place
Tucked away down Bow Lane (next to the newsagents) 17th century Lord mayor's house so loads of character, not the modern pub layout or high ceilings!
Huge variety of drinks, 2 bars plus downstairs function room. You can reserve any area, any size
Steps up into the pub so not wheelchair friendly but there are tables outside.
Staff are brilliant, especially the manager Aiden (and easy on the eyes)
Girls toilets.. 1 upstairs & 2 downstairs. Never been in the mens but something similar
Always a great atmosphere
D. W.
Nice and out of the way, a lot of history in and around the pub. Never too busy and although service can be a little slow, the end result is a good pint of guiness. Recommended!
V. A.
Dating modern gastro-pubs by a few centuries, Williamson's Tavern paints a quaint picture through its rustic ambience and beautiful mahogany bars. The beers on tap present a good selection, and slightly easy on the pocket by City of London standards. Food selection is representative of a typical old-school pub with pies, fish and chips, alongside some hefty burgers.

Great place for a Pub Meeting in the City
J. F.
Great place for a drink after work, beer is always good and service is fast even when it's busy.
A. C.
Lovely pub in the city hidden away down a little alley. Good range of beers but very busy after work hours on the weekday I was there.
A. O.
Plate of tapas for five people served 4 quarters of bread = 1 slice! and everything on the plate was swimming in the juice from the olives . The olives needed to in a separate dish as not everyone likes olives. Lovely historic pub needs to have more traditional choice of British food.
S. Z.
Had such a great time in this little pub. Since I'm American and was there with my English wife the three pie starter with a pint of ale in the heart of London after a day at the Tower was just terrific!
I. D.
Found this gem on a detour! Stopped for a pint then later decided to have supper and read my Harry Potter book there. Great place!!!!! Bartenders were so kind! Had the steak and ale pie: delicious!!!! My new fave place!
J. F.

J. H.
Great little bar in the city. We were able to get a table when we could barely even get in to other city pubs one busy friday. Nice drinks selection and prices are reasonable too.
K. D.
Lovely, friendly team, welcoming and warm atmosphere. Felt very Covid19 safe on re-opening, it's a marvellous return to the city of London!
R. C.

A. G.
Fantastic hidden gem of a pub, but the highlight of our visit was the extremely friendly and helpful service by the barkeep. The food was on point too, and the drinks were the usual staples.
G. H.

J. C.
Always a favourite. Decently priced drinks but thought the Mac & Cheese with bacon just being a rasher of bacon plonked on the top wasn't as expected.
G. O.
It was ok for the pub hope the barman holds the glass from the bottom because we drink from the top you don't know where is hands being
O. H.
Nice pub, ok selection. Freezing bloody cold in there and they even had the air conditioner on full blast!
V. H.
The pies are good but the service basic. You need to go back to the bar and pay in advance for an other round of drinks.
P. C.

This has always been a favourite pub when I worked nearby, however it recently surpassed itself with the honesty and integrity of the team. I was here just over a week ago and my ring slipped off my finger without me noticing...thankfully Chris found it on the ground and they kept it safe for over a week until I was able to collect it. Most people would have pocketed it, so I'd like to say a huge thank you to Chris(!), and also to Sabrina for the incredible team you've built. Many thanks to you all and see you again!
