Decor and general setup of the bar/restaurant is very pretty and unique. Location is great within Maidstone Town centre. Service was very good at our visit with smiling/friendly staff. However, the main aspect of any restaurant regardless of looks is the food which was a real let down. We had the fish and chips, the batter on the fish was soggy and not fully cooked through. The chips were somehow dry/overcooked and the mushy peas looked like a slight afterthought. It may have been a one off but for both portions to be like that? For the dessert we had the Apple Crumble and Creme Brulee both of which were a let down - rather tasteless. Plus side is the use local produce which is great but it does reflect on price being a bit of a premium. Unfortunately won't be coming back...maybe for mocktails.

Good food and service is excellent. The real draw here is the array of cocktails on offer! It is loosely split into a bar area and a restaurant area meaning you could go for a quick drink or a bite to eat or both! I booked in advanced, but there are plenty of seats available in the restaurant.

Very nice food and atmosphere. The “jerk chicken” is most certainly not jerk if I’m honest, it was nice enough but wouldn’t have known it was intended to be jerk (taste wise) if it hadn’t been labelled as such. Cocktails were enjoyable and staff were very attentive. Overall a positive experience regardless.

Lovely upmarket restaurant with beautiful decor. Was very busy and hadn't booked a table but the manager who was chatty and friendly managed to squeeze us in (was such a wonderful experience.)Food well presented and very tasty. Will be there for another visit when I'm the area.

Visited The Herbalist tonight (09/06/22) and was greeted by Lauren, who recommended and made the most amazing cocktails. Food was great, atmosphere was lovely which was helped by the friendly staff. Lauren was our waitress and she is a credit to the company. Overall a fantastic evening

Nice place, friendly staff. Gave 3 stars as was not happy with my meal, I ordered the duck which was still quacking and no option to choose how I wanted it cooked. The french beans could have had a bit longer to cook and the creamed potatoes couldn't have been more than one teaspoon. Was quite disappointed. Fish cake (starter) was absolutely delicious. Also everyone on our table found it to be a bit silly that we had to scan the QR code on the table to access the menu, it was harder to read and unnecessary I thought. We were told there were no paper menus so had to look at it through our phones.

An absolutely amazing pub, great staff and beautiful interior. Really good selection of food including fresh pizza. Definitely worth a visit if you are near. Also it's slightly further away from the busier bars and pubs in Maidstone, really great place.

What a huge, well presented dining space. The Herbalist attracts a, given the prices, affluent youngster. The restaurant has a wealth of menu options. The descriptions are some of the best I’ve seen on any menu. Food including less subtle dishes such as pizzas (cooked in their open, wood pizza oven) and burgers. It does have a range of finer dining options for the seafood, steak and vegetable lover. The experience can be described more as American dining. Don’t expect it to be intimate, but social and jocular. Great for groups. Service is good, perceptive and caring. Food is served promptly and prepared to a good standard.

It is a little pricy but the food is absolutely amazing!! I had pizza and it was amazing. The cocktails are brilliant as well, there's bot many too choose from but they ones they do have are yummy. I love that the pizzas are cooked in a real stone oven as well.

One of the greatest places to get Pizza in Maidstone! Place is never too busy in the late afternoon. And staff where very helpful and friendly!

Nice Saturday afternoon lunch. Menu didn't grab me wholeheartedly but thought we'd give it a try. Very much tries to be local. Menu reflected this, using local village or town names in the menu description. Local produce and suppliers appear to be important. Staff attentive, especially our server, Leo. I watched the food come out as being served, all looked good, but I felt a bit overpriced. We had a Chapel Down sparkling rose, can't go wrong with that. Burger about an inch thick after cooked, tasty but could have been a slightly bigger portion of salad and chips. I was hungry. Had a few cocktails, nice, again a bit expensive. On the whole a good afternoon, menu not overwhelming, staples but nothing exciting. A standard 12.5% discretionary service charge added to the bill. The menu was cooked from fresh which is refreshing and worth the wait. Would I go back, yes, probably. Definitely worth a try.

A lovely eatery! We went here for lunch on a Saturday. The staff were friendly and polite and the food was lovely (I highly recommend the sorbets!) and their use of local ingredients and drinks was such a great touch. We will definitely come back here!

Had a very nice lunchtime visit with family midweek in early January 2020. Not many customers so service was understandably fast but also very welcoming. Our first visit but have used other pub/restaurants in the Elite Pubs group. Food was very good, served with care and attention to detail. Will definitely visit again.

The 3 course festive menu was very nice. We sat near the pizza oven and the pizzas looked and smelt delicious too. Staff were friendly. But avoid the draught ale - 3 times I've tried, and 3 times it tasted like vinegar. Stick with bottles. If you're not eating, the wait at the bar can be very long.

Really nice interior and atmosphere however even having booked a table the table wasn't available until 45 minutes later. Completely understandable that on a Friday night the place is busy but there was a lack of communication from the restaurant to our group which just put a bit of a poor start to the birthday celebration meal however that being said when seated, the food and wine where all great. Would be a little apprehensive about booking again in a hurry, food was great but the experience I had with the prices asked means that it wouldn't be a regular occasion place for myself.

Had a lovely lunch here today, nice surroundings, really friendly and attentive staff and you can see everything be freshly cooked on front of you. The pizzas are huge and very tasty and the burger was to die for. Its a bit pricier than most places but when the food is always locally sourced and the service is this good, then its worth paying the extra.

Generally a very good venue. Nice bar area and good food that is a reasonable price. Being picky the accoustics are not great here. The noise from people taljing/enjoying themselves is very loud, like a big canteen. I think it is due to all the hard surfaces and nothing their to soak up the sound.

Thoroughly enjoyed the 3 course Christmas menu this evening with friends. Every dish was delicious, but the filet steak was perfection. Literally the best steak I've ever had. Lovely atmosphere and very attentive staff. Lots of gluten free choices for one of the party too. Highly recommend.

Thank God it was eat out to help out. Some of the prices were a bit o.t.t for what they were. The starter was a sharing one?! That's a joke! Two bits of chicken, very small bits! A few halume fries and three prawns. As for the mains, not really worth the price to go into town. Pay for parking and then go there. The staff were friendly enough but seemed that we were a bother. And no ale on tap?! In a pub?! Wow.

We were there for a colleague's 40th birthday meal. We had a table for 10. One of the staff kindly let me put a cake in their fridge until later in the evening, and we were allowed to decorate the table. They have a cocktail bar with great choice. The food menu has a good variety, I had ribeye steak and it was exactly how I wanted, we also had a dessert and my bill was £45 for drinks and food, which I thought was ok. Downstairs they have a nightclub if you want to go to after. We were there from 19.00 until 23.00 and at no point did they try to hurry us up. I would definitely go again, and we said we will have our works Christmas meal there

The latest edition to the Elite Pubs chain. This venue is truly a unique creation. You can happily spend all day there, Begin with breakfast, excellent beers, wines & spirits, Lunch from the menu or Pizza from the shack. Afternoon cocktails. Evening dinner and then live music and dancing in the club downstairs. This venue is so unique and fresh I believe it could go national or even European with one in every major town or city. The Herbalist pulls off that rarest of feats, it works perfectly as a place for a decent meal or for just a drink (or five). The pizza oven ensures a quality pizza though jalapeños are conspicuous by their absence. The drinking area is convivial and pulls in the right kind of Maidstonians. A minor quibble would be the minimal ale offering, especially as we’re in a craft beer revolution. All in all though a decent addition to Maidstone.
