Reviews of Ye Olde Thirsty Pig
c.
A truly great wee pub is the Pig. Always a nice pint can be had. Curious Brew is a favourite of mine and can be found here.
It's about as traditional and atmospheric as a great British pub gets, certainly for Maidstone anyway. There's a little courtyard to catch a few rays when the sun is shining.
If you're staying around for more than a couple, the best advice I can give is to watch your head when you're moving about the place!!
All round a charming place and well worth stopping by!
K. H.
Really historic pub with olde world feel to it. Great beer selection. Bar staff are good to chat with. Small beer garden but reasonable amount of seating. More space then you might first think inside with seating across two floors.
A. H.
I love this pub. Its like drinking in a wonky shoebox. The whole places simply oozes history and quirkiness and personifies the quintessential Olde English pub. The beers are good and the clientelle are just as quirk as the walls and tiny winding staircases. Just far enough outisde the main town thoroughfare to deter the casual yobs, so tends to be populated by the more interesting and diverse characters.
H. P.
Love this place. Always a very friendly welcome and well kept real ales. My only 'complaint' is I have to wait for my Irish Setters to get water and treats before I get served! I know where I stand in the pecking order🤣
I. L.
Nice local pub. Friendly staff. Very interesting layout. Cosy outside space.
M. B.
Lovely beer, great atmosphere and some lovely food. I've tried most of the pubs in town and this is hands down the best. Great, well kept beer and lovely (no-thrills) homemade pub grub. The lovely team has made the best of the situation. Order through Facebook and the beer arrives a few minutes later.
Helps makes the punters feel confident and safe, Thank you 😊
D. H.
Gr8 range on ales very friendly staff, will visit again next time I'm in Maidstone
E. G.
First time visiting this pub and I felt very welcome. Good atmosphere with quite a few locals there, and friendly owner /bar staff. Also enjoyed the craft beer, the name of which I have forgotten.
There is a beer garden in the back as well.
M. P.
Lovely cosy pub with 2 rooms downstairs, a garden and 2 rooms upstairs. It's a proper old pub, so watch your head on the beams and your feet on the steps.
It has a small range of real ales and friendly bar staff. I'll definitely go back.
a.
Great old place (1414 old building) just after the first beer, I was wondering if I was drunk or just the floor was curved 🙈🤣, luckily it was only the floor that was curved 💪🏻😍 ... beautiful place, great service and atmosphere. I will certainly visit the Thirsty Pig someday again😊😍.
S. G.
Always known it by its previous name ' The Minstrel ' its one of the oldest buildings in Maidstone. The staff are so friendly. The atmosphere of the pub is so relaxing. Everyone is always so friendly. I've been going here since 1980.
K. M. L.
Great old pub, super friendly staff and people. Will have to pop in if I'm ever in the area again.
J. M.
Really nice pub, super welcoming. Beautiful medieval building, in the middle one of of Maidstone's busiest intersections. One of the last vestiges of its kind in the area. Lots of nooks and crannies to have a sequestered drink with friends (or that special someone, tee hee). Good selection of beers and friendly staff. They play an amazing selection of music, generally all of my faves. A+
T. B.
Great service, quirky nooks and cranies in the pub, good beer. Enjoyable.
R.
. Good beer and ales, nice staff.
F. M.
What a great pub. Lived in Maidstone growing up then moved away for 15 years. Never went here back then, but can say now it is a great pub. Friendly service, good COVID planning and a great pint. We will be back soon!
T. L.
Small friendly pub offering a good selection of ale and cider (other drinks available). Small covered courtyard area outside, with tables available over two floors inside. It is one of the oldest pubs in Maidstone, so the floors and stairs are uneven and you have to duck your head in a few places. Can be very busy on a weekend.
M. L.
Great pub. This was my first 'local' since around 1996 and is now the first place I head when back in town. Nice people, nice pint and top memories made here.
P. F.
Really old building with low beams and wonkey floors etc, really feels like stepping back in time. The garden area is small but the seating is all covered so we sat outside and though it was pouring with rain we didn't get wet at all. Very random selection of beers too.
T. B.
Lovely little curious pub, lots of little rooms good beer
R. H.
The only people to give this place less than 5 stars is anyone over 6 foot, you'll see when you get here! Great selection of beers, snacks, fantastic staff, vibe is great and the place itself is gorgeous and the history behind it is amazing.
J. C. (.
It's the same traditional, rustic pub it was when I first went there 6 years ago. It's comfortable, homely and the staff are always friendly. The jukebox is great and now up to date with new music releases.
This place is comfortable to go to either with friends or on your own. Upstairs there are plenty of little pockets and booths if you just want a quiet drink, and also bigger tables with benches to spread out.
T. S.
Great choice of beers and ales not to mention the gin selection! staff were also very welcoming and friendly. Happy to to back!
J.
Great atmosphere in a historic setting. Staff are lovely and the customers friendly. Just what's needed on a cold night.
L. N.
Moved to the area during the first lockdown. Came here with my partner for the first time last Saturday, had a lovely warm welcome. Even better they accept dogs in there courtyard.
J. F.
I'd fancied trying this place for a while when visiting my daughter from Manchester, I certainly wasn't disappointed when I did, quirky lovely old building and really pleasant lady behind the bar, they have this lager that's made from the yeast that's makes champagne I think, it's a really nice beer. not tried it for a proper night out yet but will be doing for sure in a few weeks on my next visit, they have live bands on and can't wait.
D. G.
A warm welcoming pub. Friendly staff and very covid safe. A welcome change I do like to have the odd drink here.
S.
Hadn't been to this pub for years, glad we went. It's a fab old building with lots of low beams and wonky floors. There's a great selection of ales and a couple of cracking ciders. Barman was a pleasure to be served by, patio at the back was a lovely sun trap and we're glad we created some Gravesend fans!
M. C.
How is this building still standing? Very old pub with nice atmosphere. Steep stairs up to watch rugby on first floor. Different range of beers on tap to the usual.
a. m.
Always a warm welcome in this pub. Great selection of Kentish beers and ciders, good jukebox with a wide selection to cater to most tastes. Easy to engage in conversation with strangers or just sit, enjoy your beer & read your paper.
S. M.
Mind your head! This is a little pub with quite possibly the lowest ceiling in the UK! Nice pub for a quick pint. Not good for large groups as it’d soon start to feel a touch claustrophobic. I like it though.
G. V.
Fantastic pub. Really friendly staff and clientele. Good music and plenty of nice drinks to choose from. The pub itself was built in the 1400's and has plenty of character.
I'll definitely be back.
E. J. (.
Only been once so far but absolutely loved it! Very quirky little place, all wonky and old. Friendly staff and the local lager which is made with champagne yeast or something like that was very nice! Definitely worth a visit!
G. S.
Great little rock pub, and a real Maidstone institution.
A number of well kept ales, and a fantastic atmosphere.
If you don’t like Metallica you can always change it up on the jukebox!
D. H.
Grade 2 listed olde worlde pub purportedly dating back to 1430. Watch out for the low beams. Great real ale mainly local breweries served to Camra standards as well as bottled beers. Mix of young and old clientele and great atmosphere with many themed nights. Separate rooms with seating areas upstairs and down.
T. B.
Awesome place... staff friendly and so hopeful..
Pop in
C. L.
Wonderful old pub. Full of character. Super selection of local real ales. Very helpful barmaid. Very friendly and chatty locals. Exactly what a British pub should be.
B. L.
Nice small pub. Very old fashioned. Small bar but plenty of seats. Really homely feel to it.
Edit- only drawback is that the music is too loud if you want to go for a chat etc
A. M.
Always such a great evening, CJ and Steve on the bar particularly are so great at maintaining a friendly and safe environment for all customers
H. L.
Yep came here night before Ramblin man. Nice old pub, remember from when it was the Minstrel years ago. Nice courtyard to get stuck into ales. Spoke to landlord, very lovely and enthusiastic guy. Good luck to him and his staff. 🤘👍
G. F.
Very friendly. Great for social distancing. Staff are as friendly and safe as possible. Very quickly service through app. Do not have to wait too long for your order.
D. M.
Quirky pub with lots of hidden rooms and funny staircases. Great beer, owner was genuinely interested to chat to us and thanked us for picking his pub on our day trip to the area.
K. C.
Great little pub... Especially if you love your rock music!
P.
My most favourite pub in Maidstone! They play some very versatile music, not just today's radio hits. Dont forget to duck if you are a tall person!
D. T. G.
Amazing spot. Must go if you are ever in the neighborhood
N. R.
Fabulous little pub as long as you consider a few things. Firstly it was built before tall people were invented and secondly they really like rock music. Enjoy.
s.
Amazing ale very quirky building
M. O.
Great pub. Open the latest out of basically every pub in Maidstone, so a popular one for us students when we're back at home and don't have much to do! Would definitely recommend
D. i. B.
Great atmosphere, lovely staff and very welcoming. The pub is a gorgeous old building nicely decorated. I love going there.
G. A.
Maidstone's original, prime alternative venue.
Loud rocks, low prices and low ceilings.
Go for the atmosphere on a Friday night, stay for the cosy winter nights in the snug or the fresh spring/summer evenings in the compact yet breezy beer garden!
S. O.
Easy to give such a good review. Fab atmosphere and assortment of drinks on offer Lovley Bar Staff and how can you not love the quirkyness of such a lovley establishment xx
M. W.
Fantastic selection of beers and ciders at really reasonable prices. Very friendly staff and locals. Lots of little quiet corners to nurse a beer and a book.
D. R.
Great staff and atmosphere and some lovely local brews
d. h.
A wonderfully cosy place. Love it's crooked stairs and wobbly walls... Feels genuinely historical. A lovely chilled environment and a great range of drinks.
T. P.
Lovely ye olde pub. Staff are lovely and friendly. Everyone there seems nice. The building is lovely and quirky.. you will need to duck
j. h.
Quirky, Great selection of beer. Nice upstairs area. Full of fellow rockers as it was close to the rambling man festival.
A. H.
Good staff, good choice of drink and nice atmosphere
P. W.
As always nice place for a relaxing pint. Great staff and customers, good selection of beer and prices.
M. S.
Great pub to meet for a chat with friends......just mind your head on the door
s. p.
Always a good vibe in such a small space, a make member of staff was rude. Kind of ruined the atmosphere a tad but the ladie serving south African accent is always a delight and has a smile !!!!
C. T. (.
Good selection of beer, pleasant staff, interesting to see a larger variety of non rock based music on the juke box.
N. M.
Good alternative pub in town. Worth a look if you're in the area. And only a few yards from where I live too..i just need more pub time to take advantage of it haha
K. W.
When you consider were this place is it is literally like walking back in time with the added bonus of serving good drinks and having a very welcoming atmosphere with lovely bar staff a little treasure in the mad rush of maidstone one way system
J. C.
Friendly 14th century pub. Great selection of beers, mainly from Kent, very friendly bar staff and wonderful atmosphere inside this very old building. Worth visiting.
J. S.
I accidently only gave a One star review previously which was an error on my part
The Pig is a great place to visit. Very friendly staff...offering a taste of the dtinks before purchasing. Great vibe.
S. B.
500 year old pub. Real ales and German lagers in best condition. Always a welcome from landlord. Mind your head on low beams. A must visit.
D. M.
Great little pub. Delicious food! I had the burger and it was handmade and cooked perfectly.
D. T.
Historic pub with decent beer. Not much more to say. Tends to be frequented by those whose musical tastes lean towards rock.
G. G.
Great place to get a drink, nice little beer garden, beautiful building and always a good selection of beers. They do tasters as well.
B. K.

Not wheelchair friendly but for someone with a sight impairment and a helping hand it is perfectly fine
Even if you didn't have someone with you li staff and customers are so friendly that asking for help here would not be an issue

K. M.
