Reviews of Coal & Cotton
E. M.
Amazing place. Food is beautiful, taste & presentation. Great for eating in or out, could stay here all day and relax.
Highly recommend the BBQ breakfasts and the salad bowl with chargrilled chicken.
My friend ordered the beer battered cod & chips, it was huge.
Toilets are kept really clean too.

Only been two times but I already love this place, the staff are amazing and so friendly and the service is unbelievable. The food and the drinks are unreal.. I’ve even been to one of the poshest steakhouses in town and coal and cottons steak beats it by miles. I’ll definitely be back soon and probably many more times after that’s for sure.

Hi guys
What a beautiful set up ..the staff are all so friendly & welcoming.
The food we had houmous flat bread and garlic dough sticks with garlic butter wow amazing ..main course we had the 2 x 2 3oz burger patties on a pretzel bun with skin on fries & coleslaw absolutely georgous......my husband had chargrilled chicken burger with lettuce, tomato on a pretzel bun with coleslaw and skin fries ...firstly the chicken was in 2 pieces but to thick,it was a bit tastless and had a lemon flavouring which there was no mention on the menu which spoilt it for my husband he hates lemon...but everything was presented really nicely would I go back most definitely .

Just want to say a big thank you for all staff at coal & Cotton. The food was first class amazing I was totally surprised I thought it was going to be a chain pub grub... i couldn't of been more wrong. Had a fantastic meal and evening a beautiful place. Thank you to all the staff and chefs again.
J. P.
Amazing place.
Deserves the full 5 stars, been here a handful of times and everytime the food has been fantastic. Excellent choice of food and drink for everyone.
J. L.
Fantastic breakfast - one of the best we’ve ever had anywhere! Very friendly staff, reasonable prices and a great atmosphere! Hoping to move to the area soon and can’t wait to make this our local!
J. O.
What a wonderful afternoon tea in the garden to celebrate the jubilee. The weather wasn't the best but we were undercover with plenty of heating and blankets if we needed them. The service was amazing at all times, Martin in particular was a star and the live music was fantastic. It goes without saying that the gin was outstanding too.
M. W.
Busy but service was spot on, food top notch and the cocktails were fab. Unfortunately they had sold out of a lot of the wine the night before (not surprising considering how busy it seemed) but 100% would return. Make sure to book 👍
A. P.
I would highly recommend!
I went for Sunday roast and when place was full, but there is lots of staff to make sure all tables are attended too! Huge delicious Sunday roast portions, but every plate that passed looked delicious!!
Will 100% be going back again soon!
R. H.
The service was very slow and none existent which was strange for a weekday.
The mains were decent and the dessert was delicious. The in-house gin was good too.
J. T.
Great ambience, great food and great hospitality. Our waitress was extremely helpful and friendly.
I would like to try the outside area next time, but on a cold January night it wasn't to be.
Look at my other reviews and 👍
M. B.
Absolutely top notch food served here. Dog friendly as well real bonus. Was sat by the bar, nice little quiet corner.
J. B.
Great staff. Food was beautiful. Outdoor was a bit cold but we had a heater so that was good. Blankets would be a good addition
M. S.
Great atmosphere, food and cocktails! Always love to come here whenever I get the chance to have a girls night. The cocktail tree is fantastic value too!
J. D.
Attended the Jubilee afternoon tea on sunday with 3 friends. I have to say we considered cancelling due to the weather but we are so glad we didn't. We were tucked away nice and warm in the tent with the heaters on, the staff were great and so was the entertainment. We even stayed on and went inside for a sunday roast later in the day. Had a great time and will be back very soon.
N. T.
Never been before first time, staff very helpful and friendly. Food was lovely. Only thing parking not many spaces and was full.
L. H.
There is a lot of outdoor seating and the decor inside is lovely.
We had meatballs and garlic pizza bread with cheese to start. The meatballs were tender and flavoursome in a rich tomato sauce. The garlic bread with cheese was equally as tasty and the base was light and fluffy with a nice crisp outer.
Our mains were margarita pizza with chicken and chorizo and the coal and cotton burger with cheese and bacon. The pizza, again like the garlic pizza bread soft and fluffy with a crisp outside and really tasty. The burger was tender and juicy.
If we were being picky, and had to choose one thing to change it would be the bun that the burger is served on. It's quite thick so the bread to meat ratio is a little too high for me but as I said that's if we were being picky and had to change one thing.
When the bill came we were both pleasantly surprised as we both expected it to be higher than it was given the quality of the food and the fact that alcohol was also ordered.
Given the amazing atmosphere, amazing food and pleasant bill shock I would absolutely recommend.

Wow! What can I say! This place is a real treat. So to start, the menu is great and most people will find something to enjoy. The service is friendly and not too rushed. We found the whole experience very welcoming and friendly. But, and this is the main thing, the food is totally awesome. Seriously, we have both eaten in some fantastic places and this place is right up there with them. We went for my wife's birthday, and now next year is a nightmare - how am I going to match this place!! I knew it was a good decision when my wife said it was the best meal she can remember!! Great value for money too. What a place!
W. M.
We have eaten here a few times before but mostly outside in the Summer or for Breakfast. We thought we would try the restaurant for an Evening Meal on Saturday. We weren't disappointed! Warm, Friendly Welcome, a Lively Atmosphere and the food was Delicious. However, we did feel a little uncomfortable with the amount of non diners who crowded our table whilst we were eating. At one point were literally backed into a corner. I would suggest maybe a separate area for those not dining whilst still serving food.
This hasn't put us off from returning but would maybe dine earlier next time.
C. M.
Been here for the first time today and I’m highly impressed. The food was absolutely lovely. Everyone on our table enjoyed their meal and had lots of compliments to share about their food. We had mains and dessert and I have to say it’s the nicest food we have had eating out. Also great service and lovely venue. Will definitely be going back and would highly recommend
d. b.
Food was of a high standard and a great drinks menu. Both food and drinks were good value. Best steak and ale pie I've ever eaten! Very good facilities and atmosphere. Staff were very attentive. We went on a busy Sunday evening and felt that service could have been faster. Our first visit but will definitely go again.
W. B.
My cousins and I have been for afternoon tea today. You couldn’t fault anything. The food was delicious. I’ve been to several places for afternoon tea and this was up there with the best
We were made to feel very welcome and there was a lovely atmosphere.
Id like to give a special thank you to Fleur who served us. She was so helpful and friendly. Even down to how we would get to Coal and Cotton if we weren’t driving.
I will certainly be recommending Coal and Cotton and I will definitely be returning
A. T.
We’ve been meaning to go to Coal and Cotton for 12 months and finally made the excuse to go. It’s really as good as people say. We were served by a young lad called Oliver who was the superstar of the visit. Such a lovely waiter and didn’t miss a trick. If everyone serves like him then it will be a good second visit when we come again.
The interior design is beautiful and the food is absolutely perfect! Top quality ingredients, cooked to perfection. There was a bit of a wait on food but sometimes you have to wait to get top quality.
Just one thing to mention and I appreciate this not be a regular situation. When we came there was a car valeter using the disabled car parking spaces to valet cars. On this occasion I hadn’t done so but if I had brought my friend who I often go out with who is disabled, she would have been really upset about not being able to use the disabled car parking space without feeling like she was a nuisance.
A. F.
Both the drinks and the food here are great! They have their in-house gin which is really good. We had pizza, burgers and steak, all of which were really nicely presented and tasted very good. There can be significant delays for table service when it's busy so I would recommend getting drinks at the bar.
J. G.
We booked here for the first time yesterday and were so impressed. The food was absolutely amazing. The starters were the best we have had anywhere. We had the garlic dough sticks halloumi fries. We both had a Sunday roast and they did the beef well done for my wife who is 8 and a half months pregnant. The bill was lower than we expected too, for such quality food. The staff and the whole atmosphere of the place was just excellent too. We both said straight away that we would be going again soon. 10/10!

Gorgeous place, finished off a lovely afternoon for us. The spiced rum daiquiri is just 👌🏼 had a couple of sides plates and will definitely be back for the food. There was a big of a pong around the bar area, but the food and drinks are that good I haven't deducted a point for the smell!

Booked for early meal Saturday afternoon with family, 6 people. Everything was fantastic, service and food. The young waitress was very attentive but not over the top. The staff when we entered where alert and very charming.e have been numerous times to CC and always enjoyed the experience.
D. S.
Did not know about this place but glad I do now. It is beautiful. We sat outside under cover. It looked and felt posh, special and a treat to be there. It was a very clean place. The staff that we communicated with were amazing. They were beyond helpful and polite. The food was lovely but the skinny chips were a tad cool. But can't complain as ate them anyway 😂. All the food was eaten which shows how gorgeous everything was. I would totally recommend this place and I can't wait to go back. 🤗

Just wanted to note how great the service we received from Lucy was on Friday night. After a mix up on my part with booking a table, Lucy was very understanding about the situation and managed to re book us a new table within the next 30 minutes! She kept me updated on when the table would be ready and even came to grab us when it was. It was just so nice to see someone go out of their way to find a solution to a problem when they could have turned us away. Thank you!
K. K.
Lovely place with a great atmosphere! Went for Sunday roast (which I would highly recommend) for my mums birthday and all the staff were super friendly and lovely.
They were happy for me to bring a birthday cake and even sang happy birthday too to my mum.
Will be going back soon!
M. M.
Had a great meal there, it was a party of 8 and all of us were in agreement on this. It was busy but the service was excellent thanks to our server Fleur. Would highly recommend going there for a meal or just drinks you will enjoy it.

Lovely food, stunning pub with great vibe and attentive staff.
Beware of parking on roadside at the front of the pub because traffic wardens will have you for breathing! Beware of a not-so-obvious dropped kerb. I wish the ambulance service reacted and responded as quick as the traffic wardens around there!
A. E. K.
Delicious food, all fresh and home made, the wood fired pizzas and grills are delicious, prawns were perfect. Staff all really lovely, friendly and helpful. Layout, vibe and decor is fab, Can’t believe we’ve never been here before, can’t wait to come back again
L. K.
Went today for Sunday roast. Great food, disappointed no cauliflower cheese left. Service from staff was lacking from the moment we checked in to the moment we left. Just felt like a business transaction.
Can only assume the lack of service or warm customer service was due to them being busy.
P. S.
Visited for our wedding anniversary. The food was faultless. Drinks were spot on. The waitress Megan was absolutely Fantastic. Could not recommend highly enough. Will be back.
A. N.
A lovely evening with family and friends celebrating two birthdays.
A special thanks to all the staff for the great food and service, especially Eliza and Illy who were wonderful and enabled us to have a great meal together.
C. C.
Great pub, a very welcome addition to the area. We attended on Saturday and the drinks were great, this one is subjective but I found the music too loud that you couldn't hear the conversation of the company you were meeting but it was a great atmosphere, sunny day, drinks flowing.
N. S.
A lovely Sunday with amazing food with friends. Staff were warm and friendly especially an exceptional waitress called Megan, she is a complete asset to your restaurant/bar and team.
C. “. P. S.
Came here my best friend, we booked outside dinning but the menu wasn't as good as inside. We was happily transferred inside. Staff was so friendly and helpful.
Where the cocktails flowed. Food was ok. Cocktails was the best bit.
K. S.
The food is lovely. The staff friendly and a nice atmosphere. My friend and I came in tonight, I had the seabass with noodles etc, it was gorgeous.

It is fabulous to have such a lovely pub restaurant here in Boothstown. A great outdoor space in the Summer, cosy Sunday lunch in the Winter or just a catch up with friends for drinks and nibbles. The food is great , the staff are polite and friendly and the standards are very high. I would definitley recommend.
L. G.
The only issue i had was it was a little chilli , and i had to eat with my coat on... apart from that everything else was lovely.... the food was lovely the service was great the prices were fare and the place had a lovely atmosphere so 👍 .
D. B.
Great food and staff were friendly and attentive. Unusual to get that these days so a lovely experience all round.
C. D.
Had a lovely Afternoon Tea - food was excellent. Fleur was great, polite, pleasant and helpful. Would definitely recommend - will definitely be back.
H. S.
Food and service was excellent and the restaurant itself looks very appealing and the outside eating and drinking areas are the best I have seen . The only thing that let it down was the untidiness of the ladies toilets so my wife told me
E. C.
Had an amazing meal on Tuesday night. The service and food were great. I’ve booked again for New Years!
J. D.
Had the best night with amazing food and drinks. Our waitresses, Illy and Eliza, were so friendly and attentive for our large table.

Here for my sisters Birthday today Sunday 28th August and Sat outside. What a fantastically run place this is the Coal and Cotton, Jason and Jake had everything run effortlessly, the staff waiting on, Barstaff and clearing up were on the ball and Alysesa the young waitress and her colleagues were so helpful and knowledgeable of their products as we asked about a few of certain things they had. Was such a lovely change to go somewhere where the staff genuinely enjoyed their job and smiling throughout. Thankyou for my sisters birthday cake she loved it. This is an amazing Gem of a place just off the east lancs. Thank-you for our day special, We will for sure be back x
D. B.
Fantastic lunch was with 2 kids. Tasty and solid food.
I would suggest a larger none alcoholic offering.
C. S.
Leek and Potato soup and sandwich after a long dog walk
What’s not to like
Absolutely fantastic
Dog friendly too
N. D.
Lovely food and amazing cocktails

Lovely Sunday roast by the far on a chilly day. Highlight has to be the cauliflower cheese which was very good.
J. M.
Definitely be back! Went for the flat iron steak, delicious. Sticky toffee pudding to finish was delish. Service was speedy and excellent.

Popped in late Afternoon for a quick bite to eat.
Very friendly and helpful staff. Ordered the Mushroom risotto with Barbecue chicken and a meat / Chilli Pizza. Neither choice disappointed. Both very tasty and would we order them again? In an instant !!!
Had to order a trio of ice-cream to cool down but that was part of the dining experience 😃
Do try this Pub/ restaurant. Very friendly and we could see why this place is so popular.
We will return sometime soon
N. S.
Not the first time we have eaten here and once again the food was spot on. Staff are friendly and the service was great
R. H.
Really enjoyed our evening, food was amazing, staff were all really lovely and helpful. All really reasonably priced and the kids menu is really good value for money. We arrived early and they sorted out a table for us straight away. Will definitely be back!
O. G.
The whole experience was fantastic. Busy place, I’d definitely book to make sure you get a table.
The food was amazing, we all had something different and it was great.
The server we had was brilliant (I can’t remember her name sorry, but you were fab!) they were warm and friendly, and looked after us so well.
We’ll definitely be back
K. S.
We came to you for a meal on this last Bank Holiday Monday. I had been once before for breakfast so decided to try the evening menu. The staff and service was great and the restaurant has a great feel and atmospere to it. Although there was a time limit on our table, we were not put under any pressure to rush our food. I couldn't have what I wanted from the menu as the kitchen had run out so I had the Coal and Cotton Burger. My wife is vegetarian and there was a good selection for her to choose from. We both enjoyed the evening, food and service. After saying all this, I had sickness and diarrhea the following morning, Tuesday, for the day and in to Wednesday. I can't say that it was caused by my meal with you but that day I had only eaten porridge for my breakfast and soup for my lunch.
D. M.
had a lovely time here with friends to celebrate a birthday. From the front of house to the clearing of our plates, the staff were so friendly, efficient - but not pushy, and helped to make the evening a good one. The food was great. Its a great setting, great atmosphere. Will definitely be coming again!
L. H.
We were a large group with a mix of dietary requirements, the owner had really good knowledge and made sure the food was suitable. They loose a star because they had alot of staff on but service was slow. We will be back as the roast dinner was amazing, Yorkshire pudding the size of your head!
L. R.
Found a local gem so happy I usually drive miles to find service/food/atmosphere as good as this pub. Can’t believe I forgot to take photos.my friend had Lamb Sunday dinner fabulous size portion and he was raving about taste and the gravy. I had home made cheese pie with red cabbage topper and chips etc. absolutely delicious. After watching the deserts go by we both went for Eaton mess which just melted away with delight. No hurrying us out and for young waiters and waitresses you could tell they did their utmost to make the visit enjoyable. Great staff picking and training boss . All the staff did you proud. Next time someone else says let’s go out -I’ll be back to increase you flock with more visitors
C. Y.
Long wait between courses and restaurant wasn't particularly busy, had the Crayfish pasta which was on the "specials" excited to try tasted nice enough but was more like tiny potted shrimp and tasted frozen & overcooked. Appreciate fresh crayfish might be hard to come by but wouldn't put on specials menu serve king prawns in there instead. £16 didn't think for that dish represented good value.
s. l.
we visited on Monday afternoon as it was the wife's birthday. We split a pizza, spicy sausage , with 2 side dishes of onion rings and parma fries with truffle.
I make pizzas and their is top notch, nice crust with plenty of good quality toppings including n'duja (the new black)
The fries were sublime with massive flavour, the onion rings were perfect and seasoned to perfection. Finally , top quality service from the staff. Can't wait to go back, well done everyone
K. W.
Nice pub, we go semi regularly as the food is very good. Dogs are "welcome" but, depending on who's serving, can sometimes get a steely reception. They also need to look into their baby change facilities as its very awkward rammed into the disable toilet (which is behind a bar table) and doesn't feel safe to put the baby on!
I. A.
Very cosmopolitan and welcoming first time I've been there and there are a couple of things to note one is that there are two menus one for eating in and a grill menu for eating outside which by the way is well covered in case of rain .On the day we went it was quite warm but we tried to book first but that's only for eating inside but alas booked up but told we could eat outside without booking and it was only after arrival we found out about the two menus Regarding prices for food they are probably slightly above average but there again I don't go out a lot obviously can't comment on inside menu but outside menu about £3/£4 starter £11/£19 main and £4/£5 dessert drinks dear though £4+ for a beer (where I drink £2.70) so wouldn't use it as a local but somewhere to go for a meal with a partner family or friends. Only drawback was the bar where I was told to order was small so patience is a virtue
V. C. W.
Great, tasty and reasonably priced food, really friendly staff and a wonderful ambience. Plenty of parking, the entire site is accessible for wheelchair users, prams and folk that are unsteady on thier feet. The toilets are clean, accessible & are very tastefully designed. The Mushroom risotto is incredibly tasty, the sticky toffee pudding to die for. If you're a gin drinker, I recommend trying the home brewed gin.
B. F.
Can't fault it tonight. Great food, I had steak and ale pie with Mash and chips on the side. Good atmosphere and nice place to eat and drink
J. F.
Nicely refurbished pub with it's own gin distillery. My partner and I enjoyed our Sunday lunch here.
E. S.
Stunning restaurant, beautiful food and the staff are so lovely! One of our favourite places to go for food or drinks! Cannot recommend enough!
K. T.
Never disappointed here. Warm and friendly atmosphere, dog friendly and something for everyone on the menu. What more could you want.

The food is very tasty, the staff are pleasant and you can dine in or out altogether a nice place to go.

The Coal & Cotton is located in the very heart of Boothstown, Greater Manchester. As you enter the venue, you are welcomed by the magnificent and impressive Gin distillery which is used to create 'our' very own Boothstown Gin.
The atmosphere is cozy, warm and vibrant which is intensified even further due to the incredible hospitality provided by the management and staff.
The Coal & Cotton offers a varied menu of deliciously mouth-watering starters, mains and desserts, seemingly designed to accommodate many tastes including for both youngsters and adults alike. My personal favorite dish is the Mussels Mariniere to start followed by the 10oz Rib Eye steak which is always cooked to perfection.
Due to my work, I'm fortunate enough to be able to eat out a lot, mainly in London and can hand on heart say that the food I have had the pleasure to sample at the Coal & Cotton is on par with - if not better than some of the cuisine I have tried at renowned, quality restaurants in the City and at a fraction of the cost.
I have tried most other dishes on the menu too, all of which were fresh with a home-made feel and put together with what tastes like very high quality produce.
But what really sets this place above the rest is the welcome towards custom of all types - including our furry four legged friends. We also have a new born baby to contend and as inexperienced newbies when it comes to parenting and venturing out, the staff have been incredibly accommodating providing extra space where required but more so just welcoming in general putting those crying baby anxieties as ease!
Yes its busy, yes its loud and vibrant at the weekend and yes you wont always be able to get a table without a reservation however whilst it seems some people like to criticize this, I personally see this as a positive thing which says a lot about the place and the standards that they aspire to.
I have met the owner James who is often seen getting stuck in with the rest of the team on a very busy Saturday night which says a lot about his passion. Both he and the management team are full of warmth and thoughtful of their guests and reading through some of the reviews on here, they're always happy hear all types of experiences both positive, negative and will endeavour to make changes where required.
Also a special mention for 'Serena' (I think this name may be wrong), who really does go above and beyond to provide an exceptional level of service.
As for the Gin menu - where do I even start!
Thanks for bringing this to Boothstown.

Excellent food and cocktails, staff are so warm n friendly x

Went for lunch yesterday excellent service was great and the food absolutely lovely will be back soon

I've been in this pub many times before but only for drinks. We booked a table for a party of 8 for NYE. I have to say the waitress and waiter (Ethan) who looked after us were amazing, and nothing was too much trouble, we even asked them to take a group photo which turned out better than our attempts. Before the date, we had to let them know what everyone was having from their 3 course NYE menu. The waitress checked to make sure they were no mistakes with the food order. When it arrived, everyone commented to say how amazing each dish tasted with generous portions. The NYE burger (I had) was yummy, and the Rib Eye Steak looked even better. Well done Coal n Cotton and I am sure we will be all be back for plenty more food in 2022.
J.
Food was gorgeous. Was very busy which made service a bit slow but it didn't affect how much we enjoyed the night. Lovely cocktails and mocktails and tasty food. Chicken supreme portion was quite small compared to a burger and chips for example but it was surprisingly filling. Will be back for valentines day movie night!
L.
We visited on Saturday with a large group of family and had a great time - thank you! They had lots of various options including vegan options, all of which was super tasty, and brought everything out together despite being such a large group. The venue was also really accessible with step free access to facilities and our table. We would very much recommend!
K. b.
Went for Sunday Lunch, food was delicious, but unfortunately we waited over 45 minutes for it. We had to ask countless times for our drinks, and then when we ordered another round it was completely forgotten about. Had to ask four times for a glass of water. We were sat next to a larger table of ladies celebrating someones birthday, so I think the waiting on staff were pre-occupied with them. We've been a handful of times over the past 18 months and unfortunately it's always the service that lets the place down.

Really good atmosphere, nice choice of dishes, prompt friendly service.

Called in in the way home from the cinema at about 1800hrs. No reservations but we were found a table and looked after well. Sticky sausages to share followed by.Mushroom Risotto and chicken burger. Very pleasant waitress, attentive but not in your face. Well worth a visit. Watch out for the salt cellars!!!
H. B.
Lovely atmosphere, staff very friendly. Have been multiple times during different times of the day. Dropped a star as we've never had food come out within a timely manner.

Superb, fabulous food and service. Went for a Sunday breakfast and once seated we were greeted straight away by a member of staff with a pot of filter coffee offering us a drink whilst deciding from the menu. The food was all cooked outside on a barbecue / griddle and was first class. The staff were very friendly with a genuine eagerness to please. The premises has been done up to a lovely standard. Looking forward to going back for an evening meal. 10/10.

I don't usually make reviews but I feel the need to say just how amazing this gem is.
From the moment I walked in I was greeted by happy friendly staff who looked like they were really enthusiastic about their roles. The atmosphere was absolutely amazing. The decor is so warming. Unfortunately the pies weren't available to try this evening, but none the less my hand was forced and I ordered what's usually a bit of a gamble, I ordered the 8 oz iron steak meal. With peppercorn sauce. I must say it was up there with one of my best ever steaks I've had. I ordered medium rare, cooked to perfection. The sauce even itself was a delightful addition to the meal, I was eating with 3 other's who each had a similar culinary delight, finished off with desserts, I had a cheese board and even the cheeses were very good. Thank you so much to the beautiful/handsome friendly staff for your welcoming service. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone if you are looking to be pleasantly surprised with this little gem of an establishment.
Well done
H. R.
Came on a Friday evening and had a wonderful time! The service was exceptional and all servers were so kind and friendly!
The food was fantastic! I had the pizza which was very tasty and generous in portion size and my partner had the steak pie - also very tasty!
Would highly recommend booking before you come!
Love the decor also!! Will come again very soon!

We have just been in for breakfast and it was amazing...I'm going to champion the Cumberland sausage, that was delicious, but the whole plate was fantastic. The service was brilliant, our server was excellent, infact all the staff we came across were brilliant. Great food, excellent care and extremely good value for money. A great experience, and a final thank u for my bloody mary, that really went down well

The four of us went for Saturday lunch. We were sat at a table which met our special request immediately. EXCELLENT and PROACTIVE service from all the staff. Really tasty food and we all left clean plates. We had the steak, pizza, and burgers. Highly recommend. Also spotted the afternoon tea which looked very nice.
K. D.
Really good food with gorgeous surroundings and atmosphere.

Came for a breakfast out with my partner on a Sunday and it was just lovely. Was a warm welcome, not overly crowded and atmosphere was relaxed, we were greeted and served drinks very quickly and were told of refill filter coffee which is a nice touch. We both went for the big breakfast and it did not disappoint! - We are here during lockdown and outdoor dining and it was just as great then too. Will be regular visitors 😃
M. D.
Love this place. The food is great and the service is spot on. Myself and family eat here quite often and they also love it. During the week it has a chilled vibe where you can sit and relax with friends and family, come Friday evening when the live music on, the place livens up and the atmosphere is mega. Highly recommend Coal & Cotton.
V. C.
My husband and I visited on Sunday 13 March and we would highly recommend a visit to the Coal and Cotton! The service was firstly class the young lady who waited our table was friendly and could not do enough for us! The food was excellent and they even cooked a chicken breast for our little doggie who was also made very welcome, we will definitely be booking to go again
D. W.
Had a lovely evening tonight with two of my friends but we felt so sorry for the bar staff as they were so busy getting drinks for everyone. It was very embarrassing for them as it was so busy at the bar on a number of occasions and so stressful. I really thought that the staff were so looked after but after tonight's episode I was shocked
E. T.
Amazing food and excellent service by Eliza and Illy!! Would 100% recommend, such a good vibe 😊
T. B.
Brilliant atmosphere, friendly staff, amazing food, lovely surroundings definitely go again.
T. M.
First time with coal and cotton ailce what an amzing lady she helped with menu drinks and even desserts raspberry couli husband loved it Alice deserve a pay rise a glass of wine and employer of the month her service skill are 100 percent would recomend the service the food the restaurant thank you

I attended for the first time just 2 days ago, i can honestly say it was the best cooked food i have ever had in a pub. We were a party of 4 and we all agreed how good the food was, I now understand what the difference is between ' normal ' pub food and what the Coal & Cotton produce. I cannot see our future 'meal out' bookings being anywhere else.
P. C.
Amazing food. Staff even more amazing. I'll be back
S. B.
Great food, great service
S. A.
Wow what a lovely place! Really good, varied menu with lots of choice. Presentation of food beautiful and taste fantastic. My friend had steak pie and I had pizza. Service very good, polite and attentive. Would definitely recommend.
J. D.
Lovely food and nice surroundings.Brilliant service went for lunch.
A. S.
5 star ,service excellent , food beautiful, atmosphere lovely ,can't wait to come back .
P. K.
Pleasant attentive staff, excellent tasty food, and pleasantly surprised at the very reasonable food bill, we had a shared starter and main courses plus drinks for less than £60,busy Saturday night 8pm booking, approx 40 min wait between courses but it was very busy and didn't bother us, our only slight issue was that the music was a little too loud to allow conversation, a couple on the next table had difficulty hearing the waitress!, will definitely return.
V. H.
Full vegan menu! Tasty mushroom starter, nice pizza and superb chocolate brownie
D. E.
Amazing atmosphere, service, food and entertainment. Menu choices are excellent, great portion sizes and would highly recommend the steak and ale pie.
D. D.
Absolutely delicious food and lovely interior. Definitely will return !!
J. B.
So back again for a meal and drinks .the staff and the ambiance is fabulous. Nothing is to much trouble .love this place
A. G.
Absolutely fantastic breakfast. Although it was very busy, the service was prompt and the staff were wonderful.

Coal and cotton is a fantastic pub with beautiful decor and is doing everything right in this post lock down world.
We have visited a number of times before covid and the place never fails to impress with its beautiful decor, fantastic high quality food, and amazing in house gin.
Last nights visit was for a drink and the first under the new social distance guidelines. What coal and cotton have done to make you feel safe but at the same time keep a great relaxed atmosphere is brilliant.
We booked a table on their website in advance...turned up and were greeted at the door, asked to clean hands with gel then shown to the table. Drinks were ordered and paid for via the website (app on its way) and came to our table every time within 5 mins of the order being placed (there were so many staff working abd service was amazing)
It was a great night out with the family in a fantastic pub and I highly recommend this place...try the in house gin, its gorgeous
L. G.
The pub was looked really good inside there was decent selection of beer and the food was amazing we ate inside but there is a bbq outside and we wanted to try that as well there was 17 of us and inside they can't accommodate that together on one table but they did put us all in area together staff where polite and efficient
My only bad point is it's not near my area otherwise I'd be in there a lot more 👍👍
R. H.
Lovely food Saturday afternoon quite busy glad we booked a table
C. M.
The best pub in town. Food is better than a lot of restaurants, the gin is delicious, the service is second to none and always friendly, they always have something special for locals to enjoy like cinema nights etc and Christmas markets. This pub is so well managed and not to mention the stunning interior! Never disappoints 🥂 well done coal & cotton 🥂
R. W.
As a family of 5 we visited Coal and Cotton for drinks and food to celebrate the last of the Christmas holiday before returning to work. The service from the minute we walked through the door was second to none, the food was excellent (taste was divine and it was beautifully presented). Great value and highly recommended. Thank you for a great time and see you very soon :)
C. M.
First time visiting Coal and Cotton. We'd heard good reviews from other people and thought we'd try it for their Festive Menu. The food was lovely and very reasonably priced. The service was great, very friendly. I loved the decor - warm and cosy and a little bit different from a lot of 'chain' pub/restaurants. All in all it was a lovely evening and I'd definitely go back again.
N. H.
Best service, and amazing 100% Sunday dinner. Definitely be back again!!
G. N.
This is the fourth time we’ve been here for food because the food and service was excellent.
Unfortunately this time, the staff weren’t very attentive and the service was really slow.
The food, when it eventually was good, but we had to remind the various waiting staff who were serving our table to chase up our drinks and we had to ask a couple of times for cutlery.
The restaurant wasn’t busy, but the Staff seemed preoccupied.
It won’t stop us visiting again, but another visit like yesterday may make us think twice.
Thanks G Nutsey
J. H.
This place is really lovely and the service is second to none, I can honestly say I have not come across customer service as good as this in a very long time !!! The food was excellent. I ordered chicken supreme and my niece had fish and chips, I thought I had made a mistake when I saw the fish and chips come out, it looked amazing but definitely hadn't when I tasted my chicken supreme, it was delicious..... We didn't try any cocktails but saw them being made and taken out out a big 'tree' , will definitely try a couple next time. We had a table inside , the decoration is really nice and has a good atmosphere, there is also a huge outdoor area , fully covered with lots of tables.
R. S.
Heard so much praise for this place so was intrigued to try. Was ok, food was just standard pub grub. We sat outside and felt this made the experience worse. Was quite busy but was mostly adults drinking while their kids was running wild and was only 1 in the afternoon.
Feel if did go back id book a table inside
G. M.
Fabulous food...lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Highly recommend
T. H.
So I ordered the soup to start consistency thick a little under seasoned but really very good . For Main steak & ale pie with a side of hand cut chips . Man the main was breath takingly brilliant , if you don't order this , well your honestly mad , the blend of flavour was fabulous . Chef you nailed it ,party of 4 loved it
M. L.
Yesterday was the second time I’ve been for breakfast at the coal & cotton and the food is just fantastic. I had the unusual but extremely tasty breakfast flatbread which I would recommend in a second, whilst my wife had the full English which was also just nice. Produce is top quality and the atmosphere is wonderful. If your in the area pop in you won’t regret it one bit.
L. m.
First time visiting this place and wow I'm blown away with the service and quality of food, absolutely amazing 👌
T. g.
Hi, I just wanted to say a massive thank you to your fabulous staff for making our visit for my mums 80th birthday so special.
We had a great time, and everyone enjoyed really their meals, but the staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time and that my Mum enjoyed her special birthday.
Thank you
T. B.
Such a lovely place and really nice staff however we waited almost 2 hours for our main meal. Freya and James were good, they spotted this and subsequently James gave us the main meal for free and Freya gave us a round of drinks on the house. Unfortunately due to the wait, we probably wouldn’t visit again.
A. R.
As ever, a great experience. Lovely, polite and efficient staff - delicious food with a great understanding of my gluten-free needs as a coeliac. We will continue to return and bring new friends to share the experience.
j. p.
I have dine at coal and cotton several times since opening. The food is always great and the staff can't do enough.
There customer care is the best.
Can't wait to go back..made my birthday special thanks x
N. V.
We were sat outside on our meal because we were in a large group. The waitors were very accommodating, however, the female waitress was quite rude. She had short blonde hair. It was obvious she hated serving us in the cold and it was as though it was too much effort. She knocked a few of us over the head when reaching over to hand over food (instead of walking round the table, she leaned over us). I get she was in a hurry to get back inside, but it doesn't cost anything to be patient and hospitable. Overall food was nice and served on time.
A. T.
Excellent staff and service. Food was fantastic too. They fitted us in on a very busy Sunday afternoon service and couldn't have been more helpful. We will be back!
A. H.
Delicious food, attentive service! Can’t wait to return
S. B.
Lovely meal and great service couldn't fault it. Only problem was getting blocked in car park by it turns out the managers mother. It seems this women thinks its OK to block people in the car park cause her daughter runs the place - was told that by her in some.quite strong language. Strange and very crass 🤷♂️ Will avoid but she did tell.us we weren't welcome back anyway!!!
W. G.
Usually quite busy pleasant staff but it seems like the average wait for your food to arrive is 45mins. Also car park is very busy & you may have to park on the road outside. The food is quite nice but is slightly more expensive than most similar establishments.
G. B.
Food was good but disappointed they didn't have asparagus for the starter. We ordered 5 and got none. Their cheese and onion pie was pretty good.
Our waitress was excellent
S. t.
Had a lovely time and all the staff were friendly
k. h.
We visited here for the first time yesterday and were very impressed with both the exceptional food and the fantastic staff! We felt really looked after, especially when the chef went to the trouble of making the birthday girl's sweet special with a candle and 'happy birthday' piped on her plate. There was not one thing we could fault. We shall be back!
S. C.
Fantastic place to meet up with friends. Seated in the outdoor area, as the indoor tables were fully booked, so needed to wrap up warm. Fabulous, friendly service from Kaliel ensured we had a great night.
Cocktails and meals were delicious. Would definitely recommend.
L. B.
Lovely afternoon, food delicious, I'd recommend their cocktails! Servers were great (although the dessets took longer than the main meal to arrive)
G. E.
Been several times, latest for afternoon tea and gin. Very good, although I think these days your table is only for a few hours and not the night like in the good old fashioned days, obviously there were no more tables for the rest of the night so we left and went somewhere else as didn't fancy sitting outside, sad really as we had been there 4hrs and would have stayed on, although at around £9 a drink we probably wouldn't have been able to drink to much !!
D. W.
Excellent food and service very good value. Lovely staff especially Lewis who was so helpful and made our visit very nice and welcoming. Great to see that this place has not ruined an old pub but enhanced the whole space. Well done guys. Best wishes Deb and Jim. Xx
D. B.
We were outside, lovely setup & lots of heaters. The pizza (spicy sausage) was outstanding the crust was crispy on the outside with the right amount of char and fluffy and moist inside. Really good selection of beer's.
D. L. m.
Great service with no rushing, excellent food and fair spectrum of dishes to suit most taste's. Ambience is very good and food is fresh cooked. We had a great night and we felt welcome and valued
B. R.
Monday lunch and it is really busy! That tells you most of what you need to know about this place. The food is as good as pub food gets. Although not cheap, it’s worth every penny. Fabulous attention to detail with presentation, friendly staff, nice location, great real ale (though I would like to see a larger selection), clean, nice decor. Everything that a gastro-pub should be. Two small warnings: firstly that it seems to be overwhelmingly a food operation. I don’t think many would come here just for a pint. Secondly, if today was anything to go by, I really would take the time to book your table, especially at weekends.
G. S.
Excellent food and drink in a friendly atmosphere. Great staff, will definitely go again - still as good on the return visit.
L. K.
Amazing dining experience I came with my famliy 11 of us. all greeted with big smiles and positive attitudes the food was amazing complements to the kitchen staff tonight and a massive thank you do our waitress Fleur made sure everything was perfect for us and made the end of our night thank you to the team!!
B. B.
Had a lovely afternoon today. The food was delicious. The staff were excellent, professional and friendly. Well done to all. We will be back
S. S.
Popped in on the spur of the moment, very busy, but we found a bar stool & a counter to have our late lunch. Fish & Chips were good. Sea Bass was outstanding. A glass or two of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc helped😁😁. Well done C&C 👏👏
H. T.
Lovely warm atmosphere on a snowy November day. Staff were really friendly towards us including the dog. Enjoyed the food - especially the asparagus and crispy poached egg starter. Good beers. Will go back when we next walk in Worsley Woods.
K. H.
Great selection of food and drinks, different areas to sit in, dogs allowed, fab atmosphere.

Turned up on a whim without booking.
The staff were really friendly helpful and soon had us sat at a table.
The service was excellent as was the food.
Very reasonably priced and such a nice venue.
We will certainly return Again soon.
S. G.
Booked lunch here on Sunday which was an easy process. The lunch was great with excellent food, attentive and friendly service. Very busy but our food came in good time. Definitely going again.
C. B.
1st time here and I have to say we loved it!! We went for the soup and sandwich menu as it was lunchtime. Service was fab, staff were great and food was delicious. We will defiantly be going back
F. L.

M. B.
Had a great time at Coal & Cotton. Food really good. Service great. Staff very nice. Looking forward to going back very soon.
S. H.
Came yesterday lunch time...the food was excellent. The service was superb, friendly, professional and really on the ball, especially the friendly service by the young guy who made sure our table was cleared so quickly. A really lovely atmosphere here, we sat outside. My first time here and I sure will come again.
S. F.
Lovely food and friendly staff.

Coal and Cotton never fails to amaze me! We took our 2 little ones (5 & 3) to see Santa a couple of days before Christmas. Sat in a lovely festive heated tee-pee, Christmas songs playing, and many families there enjoying the wonderful atmosphere and brilliant service. Giving all the kids free pizza and chips was the icing on the cake! Thanks guys, brilliant
p. h.
Outstanding! Staff & Management are very friendly and provide a fast service whether seating or at the bar. The outside seating area is very laid back and provides a chilled and comfortable environment.
D. S.
Really nice atmosphere and food was beautiful.
R. Y.
What a hidden little gem! So glad I found this place after a couple of recommendations from friends. The service was the best we have ever had, all the staff are so happy, friendly, attentive and go above and beyond. The food was unreal! Atmosphere was fabulous and lovely decor. You should be proud of yourself guys! We will definitely be back.
Thanks for a great night!
M. S.
We’ve ordered from here a couple of times now. They are traditionally an eat-in service, so it’s great to see them adapting to the current climate and offering a good menu selection online for delivery.
Both times, the food has arrived reasonably quick, and still warm. With good portion sizes too!
I can forgive the presentation. I think trying to package a Sunday Roast into a recyclable box is clearly harder than straight onto a plate like they’re used to. I’m just happy to see them still working, and I’ll certainly continue to order during lockdown, then visit when we’re open to help support local business!
Well done for carrying on :)
D. S.
Fantastic pub really good service and breakfasts will definitely be returning again
L. E.
Just had a family meal and drinks at the coal and cotton in boothstown for the first time (27.12.21) and the food is absolutely fantastic, the place as a rustic look about it, the staff are all well presented and very pleasant and you do not feel rushed when eating like you do at some places.
I would definitely recommend this place
R. K.
Great interior, lovely staff, good food, A little expensive.
C. H.
Lovely pub and the food was amazing!
C. C.
Great food great service great staff. Lovely ambience
S.
Very nice place, been a few times but something is always missing, lol, this time black pudding missing and toast was not done, it was just bread, so didn't eat it, I did mention to staff but it doesn't bother me, just a little hiccup, maybe chef under pressure cos it's always busy, apart from that, it's nice x
M. B.
Superb breakfast, cooked so well and unlimited coffee, whats not to like.
S. Y.
Excellent pub/restaurant ideally located just off the main road in Boothstown. Fantastic food, and a vast array of drinks/cocktails on offer. Tastefully decorated indoors, and an excellent outdoor seating area make this place a must visit. Booking highly recommended.
J. S.
First time dining here and I'll happily return in the future.
Good food and outgoing staff made our experience a very enjoyable one 🙂
C. D.
Had a great experience here, staff and manager were absolutely lovely, very busy place and they really made a huge effort to find us somewhere to sit to eat, we sat on high stools next to a wall shelf it was big enough to eat from and very comfortable and we were just happy to be there, I live in south Devon on the coast, sea food central, we had fish and chips and it was delicious and well presented, I don’t think I’ll ever forget how good it was. I don’t often leave reviews, this just had to be done and hope it means something, the young girl serving us was very professional and friendly, we enquired about their gins, I’m a bit of a gin head!..she was knowledgable and interesting, she escorted us round to the distillery display and talked us through it, I bought a gift set of miniatures to try out at my gin tasting girls night at my house soon. They have an amazing outdoor seating area, and a constant flow of people turning up for tables, so we felt highly honoured that we got to eat there without booking in advance… thanks for a great experience, I will be booking next time I’m up north and be highly recommending you at any opportunity.
s. c.
Food was good as always, but it was really cold. Most people had their coats on. I appreciate there needs to be ventilation due to covid, but we have eaten out a lot recently and nothing as cold as this. It made a cool atmosphere on what was already a cold day.
K. O. (.
Super service, super tasty, local, fresh ad friendly
L. J.
It was OK a bit disappointed more food then beer sorry
G. H.
I live in Birmingham, miles away.
This is the best pub I've ever been to. Staff and management treat you like family, and are so welcoming it's worth the commute just to see them.
Amazing place, amazing beer and amazing entertainment.
H.
It was pouring with rain and cold when we sat outside Coal and Cotton but that didn't matter under the lovely tent with the heat lamps. The atmosphere was great, everything felt so normal yet safe and the food was amazing as always. The staff went above and beyond to make my little one comfortable even though the place was quite busy. Highly recommend.
J. B.
Busy, great vibe, good food, will be back!
S. D.
Fabulous food and staff. Thank you
G. K.
Lovely lovely place! Food is excellently presented and tastes lovely! Staff are very very friendly! Food is always very speedy as are drinks! Have sat inside and outside on different occasions and would recommend both! Outside has cover and heating which is brilliant! Inside has a lovely vibe!
J. C.
Visited at the weekend for the first time with 2 dogs. Very friendly atmosphere. Brought bowls of water over for the dogs and even offered to bring the drinks over to the table instead of waiting at the bar with them. Had the roast sharer and it was immense. Large portions of fantastic food that tasted amazing. The gin distillery in the pub is very unique and the whole design of the pub is great. Will definitely be returning.
E. K.
Pram and dogs and family in tow we ventured to coal and cotton for food for the first time!! Perfect table for pram and our 4 week old new born after requesting (massive thanks!) AMAZING service from the moment we walked in (wish I could remember the guys name!) And the food was YUMMY. Pizzas roasts salads burgers and the desserts. Then we moved outside to enjoy the weather some more drinks and even breast fed the little one with no odd glances. A classy, warming and perfect place for all.
M. N.
Outstanding food and great staff. We’ve wanted to visit coal and cotton for a while and it was worth the wait. We remember it being the pub previously and wow, what a transformation. The food was fantastic and we love that it’s cooked outside! The service was just as good and all staff members were friendly, smiley and more than happy to help. Highly recommend for breakfast and we’re already looking forward to returning for an evening meal.
R. S.
Eating outside in a thunder storm? Not everyone's cup of tea but the tent outside made it feel extra cosy with it coming down around us and the lights dangling above us. The food and beer were great! Plus service awesome! The posh burger was a special treat!
L. C.
Had a birthday meal last night the food and service was first class me and my husband had a really good time we will be going their again thank you
S. W.
Had lovely time here on Sunday for my birthday service was spot on great food and very friendly staff will definitely be coming back 😊
L. J.
Fantastic food and atmosphere. Staff very attentive even though place was very busy as was euro final night. Recommended the steak pie and children's meals are fantastic value
C. M.
Excellent food, superb service and hihly enjoyable cocktails.
S. W.
Great place to go for a meal and a drink in an village pub that has be tastefully decorated and it makes its own gin on site. Has parking if you get there early enough and has access for wheelchair users.
A. H.
Booked for a 30th birthday meal with friends.
Food - outstanding. Everyone enjoyed their food and commented on how great all the meals were. Kaleel (apologies if this is spelt wrong) was also a great bartender and gave us suggestions for drinks which showcased his knowledge and friendly manner. The overall experience, however, was not quite up to standards. A couple of staff members appeared so un-interested in how they served us, that they almost came across as rude. One staff member, who was serving at the outside bar, told me that they were out of draught cider and were waiting on a delivery. Not an issue - the issue was when I later ordered from the inside bar, that I found out there was draught cider there. Why she didn't just tell me that I would need to get draught from inside, I'm not quite sure. We also were told to order from a specific side of the inside bar, where there was a queue forming, yet there were two staff members on the other side just having a laugh and chatting away. Again, why they couldn't serve from that side too was slightly frustrating. Another staff member also tried to kill a bug while mid serve, which just seemed unprofessional.
Such a hit and miss. Lovely time, great atmosphere, wonderful food, and clearly some hard-workers. But the attitude from some of the staff just brought the whole experience down.
N. L.
Really Instagramable place to go. Although to book I had to give my card details and they would have charged me if anything and happened. I wasn't really keen on that and hadn't heard of doing this before but reluctantly handed over my details in the end.
I got an alcohol free gin and it was amazing! It was in a proper gin glass with blueberries and cucumber and ice. It tasted like the real deal was only around the £3 mark and you felt as though you were getting the real deal.
I got the flatbread but didn't enjoy it. The chips were great though. The burgers looked tasty.
N. M.
Ordered takeaway meals for the family and the quality was just like being in the restaurant, superb job. Made our Saturday night in. Can highly recommend the flat iron steak with peppercorn sauce. Thanks and keep up the great work guys!
S. W.
A little bit busy but all safe, staff brilliant, we booked a table for 4 but asked if we could add one more and it wasn't an issue which was great and the service was brilliant under the covid circumstances. The best cheeky vimpto I've had ever!!! The Cocktails here are fab and delicious and so was the food, gorgeous burgers and pizzas, Fab!

Booked on line and arrived on time at 1pm on Sunday
Greeted with a smile and ask for names and then said I wont keep you a moment
But then things got frustrating and instead of showing us to our table the receptionist then got engrossed with booking for another party on the computer, even after a few minutes she called over another colleague to look at the problem ignoring us but then with smile ask to follow her after at least 5 minutes working on the issue
We did follow her to a table with very tall bar stools which resembled a bird perch
These where unsuitable for us so we asked for another table
Again after some hunting around found another table with slightly smaller bar stools, not quite what we had planned to sit on but adequate.
At this point even though we had paid a small deposit was on the verge of leaving
Things then got better with the person who took our drinks order and later our food order
The drinks arrived promptly followed later with the food
The meal was well presented but not as hot as would be expected for a Sunday roast
There was never a problem with the food or service of the food but I am a great believer in first impressions count and I would of given you a 1 star rating for this but things did get better
Having never been before we asked the same person who greeted us was this the only type of seating available?
We where informed that you have 2 rooms,
Where we sat was the coal room but the cotton room would possibly more to our liking for the next time and was invited to view the room to see if was any better and if it was to put this on the booking form in the future
Looking on your informative website the box where it says comments is rather confusing so I left this blank but it if it said additional request or requirements I could of given more information for our booking
It's almost assuming that every customer who books to dine with you is a repeat customer or regular but to be one of these you need to come for the first time
Therefore I believe that you should treat every customer the same as though they have never been before
This could be part of the initial greeting to ascertain if this was the case and adjusting the total greeting as necessary
To sum things up we will come again but judge to see if any of our commitment have been taken on board to improve our overall dinning experience
Regards
Philip Yates

Great food, gin and atmosphere. Brilliant covid compliance too. Enjoyed our meal tonight - I had the smoked haddock risotto - very tasty. The half chicken is a bargain too. Steak and ale pie was polished off by hubby - might try that next time. Look forward to it 😍😍
K. B.
Pub interior looks great, staff pleasant and helpful. The food needs some work, the chicken liver parfait tasted really odd and the other dishes were mediocre at best. Will try again in 6 months to see if they've sorted the food out as the general feel of the place is lovely.
A. H.
We have been to Coal and Cotton 3 times in 5 weeks, its that good. Breakfast is generous, staff are friendly and accomodating and the atmosphere is great. Very reasonable in terms of price. I dont drink, but I see they make thier own Gin if thats something you're in to.
R. G.
Partner and I had lovely lunch at the Coal and Cotton yesterday. Food was excellent and so was the friendly service and comfortable ambiance. Will definitely be visiting again very soon.
G. F.
5 friends and I booked a table for Saturday night, we had thought we'd leave it until after the initial rush to try out the "new" place. We booked via the Togo website and all seemed fine. The first issue we had was when I received an email asking for a deposit of £5 per head but only giving one hour to pay this deposit! I only picked up the email after the hour deadline. Long story short we resolved this and turned up for our meal.
We discovered we were at in the main bar area which was very noisy plus a speaker blaring out music above our head. We did express our disappointment at this arrangement - this was resolved by James ?duty manager, he managed to find us a table in the quieter area of the pub. We found out later this area is called the "Cotton" area, the bar area being the "Coal" side.
The waiting staff were very efficient, the service was very good. The menu although not giving a huge choice there was enough for each of us to have something different. The steaks that were ordered to match our different tastes were cooked to our satisfaction. All in all a very good experience after a bit of a bumpy start but well recovered by James and subsequently great service from the staff.
We will visit again and request the Cotton side, hopefully by then the one hour "deadline" for paying deposits will be resolved (already in hand). A welcome addition to our local pubs and restaurants
O. H.
I really want to love this place, there's so much they do right and they're a great addition to a growing local scene.
Staff are friendly, welcoming and helpful, everything you want.
It's lovely inside, got a great beer garden and setup for BBQ next time the sun shines.
2 things make this a 3 star rather than a 5.
1) The food is really tasty, but our main courses took a very long time to arrive, almost an hour after ordering and at least 30mins after we'd finished starters. Not sure what happened behind the scenes but we watched as other tables arrived, ordered and got their food while we waited on our mains.
2) For a place which such evident pride in it's locale, it's disappointing to not see a Salford brewery being supported with either keg or can. Given the quality and variety of beer which is being made in these parts it would be a great thing for such a prominent and popular venue to highlight them to a new audience.

Brilliant venue, fantastic service and lovely food options. Friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Would definitely recommend a visit but beware, parking can be limited especially when busy.
T. H.
First time visit for us but will definitely be back. Food was exceptional and the staff very friendly and attentive. A great place to eat
J. T.
Five of us all had a lovely meal here last night. We all ordered different starters and mains and we all were extremely satisfied with quality and flavours of our meals. Go here with an open mind and reading previous reviews I suggest you don’t put any value on them and form your own opinions as people are too eager to be, and share their personal negativity . All the staff were lovely, attentive and friendly and checked if we were satisfied. My steak and ale pie was meaty and juicy and chips were to die for. Will definitely go again and also try the Afternoon tea in future
R. H.
Amazing! Excellent food and service! Went for breakfast c9am - attentive friendly staff took our order perfectly and rapidly brought exactly what we ordered - great barmcakes/butties - music, table etc perfect - thanks all!

Came across Coal & Cotton as they're one of the few restaurants near me that are doing takeaway Sunday Roasts during Tier 3/lock down restrictions. What a discovery! The menu has so many options, all the food I've tried is incredibly tasty, and with generous portion sizes. It's also well packaged/presented for takeaway/delivery. Can't wait to become a regular visitor when its fully open again.
S. L.
Amazing service//food & drinks as always!
Thank you very much!!
Ps… never take the garlic sticks off the menu! :)
J. R.
Booked a late table here fully expecting food. On arrival the kitchens had closed. They were brilliant and said we could have items from the grill. Ordered 3 rib eye steaks, cooked perfectly and very tasty. Great service and friendly staff cant wait to return.
A. K.
Just been today. I had the iron flat steak. It was a bit undercooked, actually all of our steaks were undercooked. Of all the staff they had in only 2 of them were wearing their masks properly. The rest either had it under their noses or under their chins, even when approaching our table. There were flies around and even though the staff were very pleasant the mask situation made me feel quite uncomfortable. Dessert was lovely. I had the Eaton mess.
D. S.
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, great log fire, food looked amazing and the BOOTHSTOWN GIN...WOWZERS!
J. H.
Just had a fabulous meal delivered through Deliveroo. Food was piping hot and cooked to perfection. If you’re missing visiting the pub I highly recommend ordering online and treating yourself in the comfort of your own home. Did miss their big fire though. Happy new year 🥳
V. L.
Absolutely amazing. The staff and food are truly excellent, my ultimate favourite place to eat!! The standard here for great customer service and great food is second to none!!!
k. A.
Aesthetically pleasing but felt very cramped. Uncomfortable chairs.
I took my little dog for lunch the area I was directed to looked lovely but had too many tables and uncomfortable seating in a small space and it was very very hot. The food I ordered was not as described on the menu and I had to return 2 items . The staff were lovely, helpful and accommodating. Good location. This is my own opinion and others may see it differently.
I would not return purely on feeling cramped.
S.
Visited for the first time today and was really impressed. We sat outside under the large covered area which had some heaters due to the chilly wet weather. It felt very safe, the staff were great and the food was gorgeous. Would not hesitate to go back and also recommend to others 😊
J. B.
Staff extremely friendly and helpful considering it was incredibly busy. We did have a couple of issues; nothing major and they were dealt with very efficiently. Keep up the great work guys!
R. D.
Amazing food and amazing service. Couldn’t fault any of it! The staff are absolutely lovely and couldn’t do enough for us. Ps sorry for the mess!
T. T.
Lovely place, the food is amazing and staff are really nice and friendly too the best cheese and onion I've tested 😋
a. b.
Went for breakfast, lovely food great portion sizes, it has a lovely feel to it with the decor and staff were very friendly and attentive. Will definitely be coming back again. 🙂
T.
We go here regularly for both food and drinks and love it. The service is always great and the nights with live music are class 👌🏼
M. J.
Not really a pub.. more of a restaurant. The food is great. The staff are excellent. It's up there as one of my favourite places.
K. P.
Went for the gin fountain afternoon tea this afternoon for my sisters 50th, what a lovely relaxing time we had. Food gorgeous and staff very friendly. Will definitely be back, highly recommend 👌
l. a.
Had the worse Christmas ever with covid hitting my family, all good now thank goodness, went here tonight for my non Christmas tea 6 of us it was the best Christmas Day I could ever imagine, the food, the staff was amazing, couldn’t fault one bit, and I had the best fillet steak I’ve ever tasted, no one can cook a steak for me I’m telling the truth, I’ve been to Rick Steins restaurant, and I’m telling you this was the best believe me, well done I’m definitely going back, even it’s for breakfast 😍😍😃😃😃
J. S.
Sunday roasts were great and the staff friendly, couldn't have asked for more
D. H.
First time I've been friendly staff didn't wait long for food which was delicious atmospher was great i will definitely be back again
L. W.
Had a lovely meal at Coal & Cotton this lunchtime.
Social distancing in place, hand gel at entrance and a one way system which is great + no handling of menus. After instructions from a notice on table, you order food & drinks from the menu on your phone + pay for it when you order. Staff on hand to help with this if needed.
Tables at a good distance apart + each table cleanned thoroughly. When order comes you take the plates off the tray to prevent any closeness between staff & customer who keep there distance, which I liked.
Food was delicious, well cooked + presented.
I had the Sea bass which was tasty + light + hubby had the burger. He likes it that you get two burgers ontop of each other rather than one big fat one which sometimes isn't cooked through but both of his were perfect as they are slimmer.
Cheese cake was light + fluffy with a not too big crumbly base with ice cream, again beautifully presented although delicious could have been chilled a little more but that's just my personal preference. Didn't let staff know about this as it didn't last long on my plate!
Staff friendly, professional + great at adhering to the social distancing + hygiene laws.
Their own G&T (original) was gorgeous with elderflower tonic, refreshing + again beautifully presented which makes a good G&T in my mind.
Overall great birthday treat for my husband and love this place. We would recommend it 100%!
C. T. P.
Really nice atmosphere and really good food. Love to come back and try the outdoor menu. Personally alittle too crowded for me but it shows how popular they are.
V. Y.
Superb Service Food was outstanding staff helpful and friendly, couldn't do enough for us most definitely recommend and will most certainly be returning.
R. W.
Recently my wife and I ordered two take away burgers with extra cheese and bacon which were delivered in double quick time. They were delicious best burgers we have had in a long time and really great value. Thanks Coal and Cotton will certainly be ordering again!
G. “. E.
Called in on a spur of the moment, hadn't booked but they found us a table outside which we requested, had pizza & drinks, really lovely bar/restaurant would highly recommend a visit, great staff too all very friendly.
E. F.
Loved this place. So much atmosphere. Also food was great. Had a small issue with the bill but it was quickly dealt with and no quibble.
T. H.
Charming. Food was lovely. Live music at weekends. Great atmosphere 9 bout 10
P. G.
Great place staff very friendly excellent service food was lovely, outdoor seating area the best I've seen nice touch of having small throws for you to use if it's a little chilly outside.
D. M.
Had a nice visit , service was friendly and efficient. Food was good although a little pricey
L.
Overall the pub was great, the burger was around £10 including fries which is great value for money. Service was quick, even when the pub was busy - booking is probably necessary.
S. G.
Nice place, unfortunately a member of the party had to return her steak twice because it was undercooked. To be fair, the staff were very apologetic and refunded her money, also offered her another meal at no charge. As she would have been eating on her own, she refused. She was then given a free drink and the party was given free desserts. So cannot complain about service. I had the roast beef dinner and was a little disappointed that I only got one slice of beef?!
B. T.
Absolutely amazing food, staff so friendly, highly recommended we had an amazing night staff went above and beyond for my wife's retirement 😀
G. h.
Nice cheese n onion pie to start the veggie year. Bit fussy Manchester tart for pud but tasty and always welcome on a pub menu.
M. R.
Great value for money, really good portion sizes on the breakfast and amazing service.
T. M.
Nice atmosphere, easy ordering system, food is nice enough but not spectacular, didn't have any cocktails or mocktails so can't comment on that but the soft drinks were mixed up, no big deal though
Visited on a beautiful day so sat outside
O. S.
Great food. Very tasty and presentable. Even it was cold outside the whole place has heaters around and we got right next to our table. 👍👍🙌
A. E.
Highly recommend, food great, reasonable price and nice atmosphere. Staff are very friendly aswell. Can't get much better in the local area.
J. M.
Recently refinished top a high standard. Always busy on a Saturday.
Sunday dinner was very good.
R. T.
First meal out after lockdown. Really well organised, great food (my partner said it was the best steak he'd ever had), reasonably priced wine and friendly service. There was plenty of space in the beer garden for a drink after we'd eaten, and ordering using the app was really easy.
A. D.
Absolutely loved the choice and quality of food. Staff lovely and friendly. Great atmosphere. First dine in and will definitely return. Previously had fantastic takeaway cocktails.
A. P.
Sunday roast was lovely! Very welcoming and dog friendly too.
M. M.
Lovely place, burger was nice, a little pink inside for my taste, as for the business it was great looking however the metal fencing on the side road cud do with replacing with screening, but overall a nice place, staff were very pleasant and efficient 👍
T. H.
Food was nice a few items (toast, pizza) had caught a little but not to the point off ruining the dishes. It was pretty busy and we had to wait 20 minutes or so past our reservation to get our table. I would still happily go back despite these little inconveniences.
A. P.
Dined yesterday for the third time. Food was exceptional every visit. I've had a roast dinner, Pizza, and the beetroot bon bons and all very high quality and tasty. Lovely interior and staff are very friendly and helpful - special mention to Morgan and Jodie. Amazing Gin too!
B. C.
Aww wow it was my sons 24 thbirthday.. 15/4 /21.., after the weeks we had had it was a fantastic evening. Made great particularly by the staff . All COVID regulations were in order and outdoor heating was the best bonus for me , wonderful food too , loved it cxx
E. W.
Been here afew times and it has always been a great experience. Booked in for a couple of weeks time and can't wait to go back 🖤
Great staff and great menu and great drinks/cocktails 💜❤️💚💙
P. B.
We booked a table for 4 on a busy Friday night, we was seated straight away and was explained how the service worked, we all chose different starters and mains. Didn't wait long for our food and when it arrived it was delicious so we decided to have dessert too! Staff are all very helpful and polite, we will definitely be returning! Well done all x
S. P.
Loved the atmosphere, the staff are friendly and the chicken roast dinner was amazing!! We've been back a couple of times just for a drink and we really like it! Looking forward to returning for a Sunday roast in a couple of weeks!
K. F.
Great place, inside and outside seating. Outside seating is covered. The food is great, great value and great service. Parking available. I would recommend booking in advance.
G. W.
We could only sit outside pm on a Sunday as inside was full - however there were heaters at the tables so it was comfortable
P. F.
Visited on the second night of opening and it was very busy but we were greeted at the door and the staff are very friendly.
The food and service was great: the food arrived quickly and was cooked well but the only issue was that the music in the food area was far too loud and we were sitting near a loud group of people who shouted over the music so we could hardly hear ourselves speak.
I'd definitely visit again but I'll give it a few weeks and hopefully if might be slightly less packed.
Great addition to Boothstown though.
J. S.
Food was good but it's not really a restaurant more a pub, we were seated In the more what I would call pub side so really noisy. Would go again for a drink if I was to go again for food would not go on a Saturday night or if i did request a table away from the bar . Staff pleasant did wait longer then expected especially when we had pre ordered .
J. M.
Food great and a great place to relax and have a drink
K. H.
Had a great night with fantastic food. Brilliant atmosphere. Safety of the customer in these strange times was paramount without affecting the overall enjoyment of the evening. Well done Coal and Cotton Team. Can’t wait to visit again.
S. L.
Amazing food, service and atmosphere. Friendly and attentive staff and great value for money!
a. b.
over two hours from sitting down for a garlic bread then roast dinners and had to ask for roast diners..foods pretty good to be fair there service from behind the bar to your food is probable the worst I've ever encountered .Gives faulty towers a run for there money.
J. S.
Went in for first time today lovely food the staff was excellent especially the girl with pink hair they couldn't do enough for you they were always at your table asking was u ok security staff was really good I loved my first time will be going back again
T. S.
Only reason for a 4 was being given limited menu when after we ordered I saw a vegan specific one inside. What we had was good though and nice atmosphere.
J. F.
Lovely place, lovely staff, great cocktails and food. Would definitely recommend, we liked it so much we went back again 2 days later 😀
J. B.
Just been with my friend and it's fantastic, the food's amazing and the staff are great 👍
E. T.
Second time eating here and there was more selection re food eg Soup and Sandwich the first time. This time disappointing outdoor menu and over priced for what you get. Will eat indoors in future.
S. H.
Bit disappointing San miguel not served in the nucleated glasses so the lager went flat, we had the cheese pie sounded nice but when it came it was covered in cheese sauce and baked beans which made it soggy would of preferred they came in ramekins so you could put as much or little as you wanted on
J. B.
Absolutely loved it here, can't wait to go again. Lovely atmosphere, brilliant food. Gorgeous setting 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻😃
T. E.
I'm gonna be honest now .. I thought it was just hype that people were praising this place but I was totally wrong .. Wow! So we have a large party booking coming up this Saturday (4th December) for a Christmas night out, decided to try out the Breakfast today to see if it's the right choice for a meal out and honestly it is the most aesthetically pleasing restaurant I've been to in a while, the look and vibe is just so beautiful, even the bathrooms are pretty haha but the most important part is the food, it was gorgeous, huge portions! Me and my friend had a regular breakfast and the 'Big Boothstown breakfast' everything was fresh, not greasy what so ever! The waitress was a doll, so lively and attentive and the prices are very good for what you get, I've now officially joined the hype with this place, I'm looking forward to trying everything on the menu and come Summer 2022 I can't wait to sit in that teepee in the outdoor area, well done guys! You've won yourself a loyal customer for life haha
B. F.
First visit, won't be the last. Tasty food, well presented. Friendly staff, pleasant surroundings.
Update April 2021:
Had breakfast here in their outdoor area, the food was excellent and the outdoor area is a great place to eat in safety.
S. t. G.
Great food and drinks selection. Staff are friendly. Prices are a bit higher than usual but guess you get what you pay for.
N. D.
Really good early evening meal before going to RHS Bridgewater. Great service in festive surroundings with excellent food. Would recommend
J. B.
As requested, moved our table without any fuss. Great service and very good good.
F. B.
Great food, great service.
C. M.
By far the best roast in worsley area.
P. F.
Having eaten a bacon and rosti butty - delicious!! Could I suggest a suggestion for the breakfast menu of granola, fresh fruit and plain yogurt. The butty was delicious but I would have preferred something lighter.
N. H.
Went for a nice breakfast and it was lovely. Endless cups of free filter coffee too. I will definitely be visiting again

Visited 1st time on a busy Saturday night for food and drinks after letting the opening weeks settle down a bit.
The venue has been given a great transformation and looks fantastic.
We decided to get a couple of drinks before our reservation, and whilst waiting for drinks to be served at the bar we asked how the tables work etc as it was our first visit and the member of the management team was very helpful. We were lucky then to get a small table to have a couple of drinks prior to the food (seats are at a premium due to how busy it is).
Drinks: The selection of drinks is great with a good selection of normal and craft beers with Beavertown's Neck Oil being a firm favourite now. The Boothstown gins taste great (especially the Gooseberry) and are served with a nice garnish and premium tonic (Fever Tree).
Food: We already expected to order food at the bar after the earlier chat, so picked up menus on the way to the table from the bar (although we were told by the waitress that she would have brought them over). Placing the order i went to the bar and waited 30 seconds or so behind another customer before a waitress came over with an iPad and said she would take the order at the table which was great service as was more than happy to wait a few minutes.
The food was served promptly, the bread was delicious for nibbles and the pork & fennel burger and rum & coke rack of ribs were really nice (although i struggled to finish the ribs).
We were lucky that when vacating the table a manager told us of an available table for drinks if we were quick which was great as we spent a couple of hours having a couple more drinks.
Living quite local with a 10 minute walk its great to have a venue like this and i'm sure that we will be visiting quite regularly as it's what the area has been crying out for (hence how busy it is which is great to see).
See you next visit!
Dan

Beautiful setting....lovely food and excellent service

My wife and I visited on a monday night - had to book for 7:15 - a good sign and the place was nicely busy. I had the half chicken with lemon and pepper which was lovely, chunky home cut chips were very well seasoned. Wife had the steak pie which had a lovely thin light crust, meat was tender / slow cooked with a quality red wine jus. I had a STP for afters which was of a very good standard and the homemade stout ice cream that I chose was a good contrast. Genuinely not sure why the mixed reviews - I read them and was a bit concerned, but worry not the staff were friendly, service was fast, and prices given the standard and ambience were well pitched. We will definitely be back, hopefully next time in the other side of the venue which had a lovely log burner. We have been in Boothstown about 18 months and frequently visit the Italian, so its good to have a new alternative - I consider it equal to "The Botanist" and similar gasto-pubs.Thanks; Ian & Jen

From walking into the Coal and Cotton the Decor and ambiance hits you it's stunning! The very helpful staff and service was great , we were made to feel very welcome even though it was extremely busy. We ordered the food at the bar and we had a Gin fountain at the table which was amazing loved it, The food was exceptional I especially loved the beetroot Bon Bon's but everything was lovely, like I said the ambiance you feel and the decor is wonderful, We will most definitely be returning again and again, this is what Boothstown has been crying out for! No need to pay silly prices to go into Manchester when you have the Coal and Cotton great job everyone well done!!

I have lived around the corner for years and PINING for somewhere like this to open! They have delivered in every single metric! Atmosphere, service, food quality and just general aura. This is the place is the 'go to' place in boothstown. Special thanks to Adam the manager and charlie our waitress for the experience we encountered! I could not be happier that this establishment has opened in boothstown it is just what is needed around this area! MUST GO!!!

Average, low on staff, raw dough on re fired pizza, not a great variety of option for vegetarian. No Vegan options.
S. N.
Went for lunch, and the food was delicious. Next time need to try their gin!
