Reviews of Grey Horse Inn
P.
It's rare to be able to visit and old traditional pub in the city centre. Great atmosphere created by the people in here and the friendly staff. It's small but that adds to the experience. Its a must visit to anyone coming to Manchester. I even found myself sat next to a well known actor enjoying a quiet pint on his way to Old Trafford.
H. A.
I simply have to recommend the Grey Horse as the ultimate boss level of pubs in Manchester. This place cannot be defeated.
The pints are fantastic, never a dud or a sub 10/10 among them. An excellent choice of wine, too, and all served by the best crack team of barstaff since pubs were invented. A special shout out to Ben, George and the landlord Chris, who seems to care deeply about his regulars and always makes time for a chat with anyone passing through.
Whatever the occasion get yourselves over, it's a handy location for literally anywhere in town. A friendly local pub in the heart of the city.
R. H.
Haven't been for a few years, or feels like it, and glad to say that nothing has changed 🍺👍🏻🍻. OK so the prices are a little higher but always a good selection of well kept beers on tap. Local characters make the place that bit better than most pubs around, less business/transient customers and more friendly regulars. Long may it stay that way.
D. Ŕ.
Fantastic little pub. First time in the city using a hotel reservation from a cancelled event. So just decided to hang out in Manx. This pub was just up the road. What a find. Friendly staff good beer and great banter. Loved it.
S. W.
We we’re staying in Hotel Brooklyn & after returning from a day at the shops decided to have a drink at the hotel bar, basic pint of lager & glass of Prosecco £17 Mmmm we thought looked on Google for “pubs near me” and this little gem came up. Better beer, better service & most importantly better atmosphere & all for half the price. Guy behind bar great & customers friendly, place is tiny which adds to ambiance a must visit
T. C.
Best beer shop / bar for miles.
Always great stuff on tap with a constantly changing and interesting selection.
The selection of cans and bottles is phenomenal, absolutely spoilt for choice having this place as my local.
N. L.
Classic Manchester pub!
Always a great range of Hyde's beers!
The cask beers are well maintained & very drinkable with a choice for most tastes.
Enjoy!
k. 2.
Such a quaint little place, just had to have a beer due to the novelty of the size!
Staff were friendly and a good atmosphere, o ly a few tables mind but I'd go back again.
L. B.
Absolutely awesome little place. Really small cozy venue. Proper old school pub serving Hydes beer. Great staff and a really welcoming atmosphere. Definitely recommend a trip down here for a drink or 3.
R. D.
Proper pub. Perfectly kept ale and top quality guinness. Not many like this left, do yourself a favour and visit. Best central Manchester pub and just a short walk from Piccadilly Station.
S. H.
Great little pub with good atmosphere👌
J. F.
Essential to visit this old school pub if you are visiting Manchester or if you're local and have previously walked past without going in. Friendly manager, big atmosphere, well kept ale, a whole raft of unlikely characters: Perfect.
N. A.
Have been here a few times now and love it. Small but perfect. They even gave my friend another drink after she knocked it off the table by accident. Xx
P. T.
Fantastic little boozer in middle of Manchester, visited a few times and never been disappointed. Exactly what a pub should be, good ales well kept, decent bar staff and friendly chatty patrons.
C. D.
Had a few pints after match, great pub. Beer was perfect, the staff couldn't be faulted and the atmosphere was brilliant. Will be back defo 👌
K. H.
Spent a fabulous evening her. Proper pub, proper atmosphere. I wish it was my local. Be prepared for a singsong, great people and plenty of beer.
A. B.
Always a fantastic place to drink, small and friendly(oh sorry that's me). A really great pub, better than the Old Monkey(oh sorry that is Howard).
W. H.
Historical pub we visited for family history. Can't tell you about beverages (just had a j20!) but obliging staff and lots of history pics on wall. If you want to take in the ambience of old Manchester and enjoy a drink, whatever yours may be, I'm sure you will enjoy here.
A. W.
Excellent little old boozer, great beer. Good atmosphere. A must see if you like great little pubs with good beer!
S. M.
Lovely little pub, found it just before closing so only got the 1 beer in. Lovely welcoming bar lady working. Will be back here again. No frills, no nonsense, good pint.
P. B.
Thanks to Tony the barman. Friendly place for folks to have a decent beer, which can be done with a Northern creamy head on it on request. So refreshing not to have a drink in a pub with food for a change!
R. T.
Visited the Gray Horse on a recommendation by my son and wasn’t disappointed.
This is a typical friendly town centre boozer where Chris Taylor, the landlord (and his staff) keep the full range of Hyde’s beers in beautiful condition. A great experience.
F. S.
Small and nice pub with good sorts of beers
L. N.
Amazing small bar! Huge atmosphere! Staff are amazing and friendly too! Well worth a visit
A. B.
Fantastic traditional little boosie set in the heart of Manchester. Landlord was welcoming the pub full of locals you all made as welcome great pint we will visit again
D. T.
Tremendous unpretentious and unspolt pub with the full range of Hyde's beers. Very friendly vibe, pretty faultless really 🎯
P. T.
Friendly pub nice locals good beer what more can I ask for
T. H.
One of the best traditional pubs still going strong in the town centre. Friendly staff & also a great set of customers in the pub on the times I've visited. Well worth a call in for a pint or two anytime of the week.
S. N.
Cracking early evening in here on a Saturday. Sensational landlady who runs a tight ship and keeps the punters in line. Well worth a visit.
M. H.
Good beer, proper little old fashioned pub
A. Y.
Good pub, excellent quality beer at reasonable prices.
A small town centre pub with a friendly welcome. I would definitely recommend a visit if you are in Manchester, I did notice though that the bulk of the reviews (which are largely positive) are all from males. No inference from this, as plenty of woman were in there when we visited.
K. M.
Lovely pub, lovely staff, lovely people. But most importantly: beer.
J. C.
Best thing about this pub is that you'll be made completely welcome whether you're a regular, occasional visitor or tourist. And also whether you support City, United or an away team. Affordable prices, friendly and knowledgable staff and great beer. Visit whenever I'm in town.
J. B.
Great pub, Great Staff. Good old traditional pub.Good place to start. If your visiting Manchester 👍👍👍.
B. b.
Small but friendly pub. Barman welcoming. Good location
G. H.
Nice old traditional pub,
First pint of Hydes in years
Friendly staff
S. G.
My favourite pub in Central Manchester. Good 10% off drinks promotion if you're going to the football or the theatre so I always drop in when I have a ticket.
R. B.
Tried the guinness here on the strength of other reviews and wasn't disappointed! Lovely place to sit plus a discount if going to the football.
C. F.
Small, cosy and friendly... A proper pub! 😁
M. T.
Found this pub in the Good Beer Guide and will definitely return. Very friendly and the best guinness I've had in Manchester.
C. G.
Great traditional pub and well kept beer
J. W.
Unbeatable atmosphere and great landlord. Probably the best pub in Manchester.

r. r.
Old school pub, well kept beer. Well worth putting on your list of pubs to visit
T. D.
Was surprised to discover that the Grey Horse Inn does the best pint of guinness in manchester by a mile! Trust me, I've tried them all.
C. M.
After the letdown of the Test match being cancelled, spent most of the afternoon in this cracking pub. Good atmosphere and a great pint. Will definately be back next time.
G.

S. P.
What a pub! Always have such a good time thanks to the amazing staff and regulars.
M. E.
Properly poured smooth guinness with a creamy head. Great start to the year.
J. D.
The bestest pub in town by a country mile, especially the beer and my great conversation
R. F.
Rare old school boozer in the city centre. Perfect Manchester pub crawl stop, though you may end up staying all night!
p. s.
By far the nicest boozer in the area, great staff, friendly and a great atmosphere. Will definitely go back again even just for the free pork pies
L. D.
A real Manchester gem with quality staff. Great ales and character in this city centre boozer.
R. L.
Great Little Pub. Friendly Atmosphere. Recommended
A. L.

D. S.
A Manchester Gem.
Quality ales, with querky surroundings
L. W.
Been many times. Staff and customers so welcoming and friendly atmosphere.
K. R.
A must visit pub in the city if you want a taste of real manchester. Highly recommended.
t. c.
Best pub in town. Excellent service, quality beer and lively atmosphere.
j. d.
This is the best little pub in Manchester. Lovely staff, great atmosphere and nice and cozy. If you want a place to sit and chat have a couple of beers and so on, then this is the place. They play the music at a normal volume. The beer is reasonably priced for city center. You could definitely have a good night in here without moving on. Highly recommend, but don't all go cos it'll get to busy and they'll be no seats left for me and company.
D. S.
It's pretty good, but very small and cosy. Nice selection of well kept real ales on tap. No craft though, but this is in keeping with the pub. Good banter with the barman and some of the regulars. Enjoyed it and will return in the future.
A. F.
Good Guinness and good, friendly bar staff.
T. M.
The Grey Horse Inn is a lovely, snug, little [as in: tiny] alehouse in downtown Manchester, a short walk from Piccadilly Gardens. A limited selection of solid real ales is available on tap, and you will find the service friendly and helpful. There's only about half a dozen tables, and upon opening it filled up very quickly. One thing about the opening times: Google Maps and a sign at the door indicate that it opens at 11 a.m., but when I was there on a Tuesday in October it didn't open until 12. Otherwise, wholly recommendable.
k. w.
Love this place, staff are fantastic and great atmosphere. I have spent many many evenings here. Continue your great work.
P. C.
I love this pub. The beer is great, the staff are very friendly and it's a proper pub rather than a trendy bar. There are plenty of locals who are regularly in there so you know it's good. Man Utd home games and the place is filled with supporters from Ireland, Denmark, Norway and beyond.
H. B.
Love this wee boozer - great hand pulled ales!
T. C.
Excellent pint of guinness. Top Manchester pub.
T. R.
Proper pub. Top notch landlord and the best kept beer in Manchester.
G. C.
Unbelievably this was my first ever visit here, wont be my last, felt more like a local boozer and not a city centre pub, good beers & good friendly staff, and another pub abiding by the guidelines also, which is great to see..
D. I.
After trying numerous pubs in Manchester this quickly became my favourite. Best cask ales I found and the bartenders ensured a good pour (including setting me up with a new beer without charge when one didn't settle / taste quite right). I'll definitely stop by here every time I come through MAN from now on.
C. W.
Great pub and beer
K. H.
Wonderful traditional pub. Great ale and polite friendly barman.
Outside toilets, how good is that 😊
Not many of these pubs left unfortunately.
Will call again.

A. T.
Nice small pub in city centre guess people dont know about it which is a good thing as it only has about 3 tables
V. T.
Cosy little pub in the middle of Manchester. Friendly staff just abit pricey. Cost £17.90 for 2 double vodka and fresh orange.
T. B.
Great atmosphere, very friendly landlord, fair prices. Recommended.

Excellent city centre pub. Traditional Hydes ales served along side regular lager's. Proper old school pub like they used to be in years gone by. Cosy, warm and friendly. Well worth a visit.

j. w.
Found this gem recently after moving here for university, great atmosphere, friendly staff, class music, our new regular!
J. D.
You'll struggle to find a friendlier place, or a cheaper Ale in the whole of central Manchester.
w. w.
Very small but big on character. The person behind the bar was chatty and friendly. A proper pub. Great beer. Lovely cozy pub.
More like being at a friend's house with beer.
A. H.
Old pub with good beer at the right price. If you're not bothered about the lack of loud music and bright lights, take a step back in time to one of Manchester's older pubs.
g. m.
Great little bar with a good atmosphere, real old school pub with sound locals and decent bar staff. Good if you like a pub where you can have a chat with stranger.
A. P.
Traditional pub with good choice of real ales, relaxed atmosphere and friendly bar staff. Cosy inside; what the estate agents would call "compact", so don't go with a coach party!
J. H.
Friendly little pub with a great pint of Hydes. Not many of this type of pub left now.
L.

B.
I need to visit this pub more, cracking pint and great atmosphere
S. M.
Have been visiting this quaint pub since 2010 on a more or les regular basis. Always a warm and friendly welcome, no matter who is doing the honours behind the bar. Sometimes packed in the evenings, but no harm. They keep fine ales and even a proper Guinness on tap. Increasingly popular, the Grey Horse won't run the risk of closure, oh no. Guardians like the old soldier who reigns from his bar stool, nursing ale from his own mug during daytime, are going to ensure continuous business. The atmosphere can be decidedly inspiring. I started writing my Manchester thriller PSYCHOPATH WEEK (renamed MANCHESTER X) in there, meanwhile available from amazon/kindle as an eBook. Follow-up stories abound - and I make sure the Grey Horse is always duly mentioned (and honoured). Favourite drink: Hyde's 1863.
c. b.

Probably the second smallest pub in Manchester. Well run, and always good range of Hydes and Beer Studio beers. Often lively, and usually has TV sport on.
M. B.
A fantastic little pub with a great atmosphere and unique character ,they do a particularly good mild and a very lovely bitter, the decoration is composed of bare wood and shiney mirrors, the spotless gents toilet is in the rear yard beside a tiny smoking area ,the bar staff are most pleasant and chatty, well worth a visit.

(Translated) Very authentic pub with friendly service and a very large selection of fresh draft beer!
Here you can also watch live sports on 2 TVs.
Had a great evening there and you can recommend it without hesitation!
A star deduction for the following reason: when we had just drunk our first beer and we sat there for 2 minutes without glasses (actually had already reordered) and did not know that it is common in pubs to order directly at the bar we were from the owner at the table wipe asked if we have one more drink otherwise we would have to go .... in a half empty pub ....
Apart from that, friendly barmaids and fast service.
