Reviews of Mr Thomas's Chop House

Loved it here. Lovely building, brilliant friendly service. I had the Corned Beef Hash which was lovely.
P. R.
Best Sunday roast around! The beef melted in your mouth. Warm inside the place and good service. Good value for money. Will be back again soon!

One of the best pub's in Manchester. Great food n drink
P. G.
Difficult to fault this lovely traditional pub cum restaurant. Friendly staff and good beers. Seating both inside and outside if the weather suits. Not tried their food but it is highly rated for its traditional English fayre. A favourite place to drink.
L. W.
A small pub but full of character. Really friendly staff and drinks served fast - great place to visit
P. S.
Small pub kind of place in the heart ❤️ of Manchester. Definitely on a small side i friendly staff and authentic decor 👍. Also our Manchester plate ( to share ) was tasty and great fun to eat. S see

We went here for a meal while down in Manchester for a trip. I was excited to try somewhere described as a 'Hidden Gem' of Manchester.
Firstly, the building itself is lovely, both inside and out. Very quaint.
5/7 of our table ordered the rump steak and the remaining two ordered duck. Unfortunately, the waiter came and told us there was only 1 duck left, so one of them also had rump steak.
We were brought steak knives. Only problem being, one of them wasn't a steak knife. It was a butter knife. When my friend pointed this out, the waiter told him it just looked like a butter knife but it was, in fact, a steak knife. He then walked off and we compared a butter knife to this knife, and they were exactly the same.
Either that or the dullest steak knife I've ever seen. It's up there for the dullest butter knifes I've used, to be honest. It probably should have told us something that the staff couldn't tell the difference.
We then had to wait an hour for our food. As I said, they were nearly all steaks. I can understand the Duck would obviously take longer, and they'd want them all to come at the same time. But if that's the case, maybe they should tell us so we're not sitting there wondering if we'll ever get our food. By their own admission they weren't busy, either.
When the food finally arrived, it was pretty good. Certainly nothing exceptional, but definitely not bad. I swapped "steak knives" with my friend and, it was definitely a butter knife. You couldn't cut mash with that thing, let alone Medium Steak.
We finished our meal and a lady with blonde shoulder length hair served us. She had an attitute straight away, which really rubbed me up the wrong way. My friend told her what we were paying each (we were splitting the bill) and she looked at him like she was offended. She then left the table with the card machine, went back to her till, served a different table, then came back to take our money. At no point did she ask how our meal was, try and make conversation, or anything. We felt like we were a nuisance for being there. Poor customer service and I would expect more from a place that presents itself as it does on it's website.
Overall, our experience was mixed. Probably wouldn't come again, but who knows maybe they were having a bad night. I think 3 stars is a fair estimation. Good food, poor service and a long wait time.

A nice traditional pub in the heart of the city. Bigger than the frontage might suggest and purveyor of some nice real ale (perhaps not quite the range of a real ale pub, if you want variety). Very good food too. Staff are good and probably better than you might expect of the city centre.
R. B.
Surprise birthday treat from my husband.
Loved the atmosphere, the architecture, original tiles, and the great service. The corned beef hash really was to die for. We’ll be back!
R. B.
Best onion rings and iron steak I had so far. I went here for work lunch. Food was great and make sure you have time because the food takes time. Iron steak came with a butter garlic sauce which was amazing. Place does get crowded during lunch on weekdays. We made a reservation ahead of time. Venue is a bit congested so I would not suggest this for large groups. Definitely going back.

Went here after lockdown, they have a good social distance measure in place and my husband is right the food is so good here! I had a sirlion steak and its one of the best steak I tried! I like the ambiance inside as well, it feels like you are in the 40s
M. T.
Great to see it back open, non pretentious, just good quality well cooked food. Great vibe and atmosphere, friendly staff
J. O.
Called in on a sunny afternoon for a drink. We were given a very warm welcome by the staff who showed us to a table, we preferred to sit inside and we were presented with a beautiful period setting, immaculately kept and very very clean. Service was excellent and didn't have to wait long on a busy day. Table service was in place to avoid contact and observe social distancing. We enjoyed our visit and will definitely return.
P. B.
Enjoyed the food but couldn't understand why it cost more to buy a pint than two halves. Waitress said she couldn't explain as pricing was done by head office. Didn't make sense.
V. K.
Very good pub. I really like the atmosphere. The food is delicious. I had a fish and chips and this is the best fish and chips what I tried in Manchester. The fish was crispy 😍 I definitely want to come back .
P. S.
Very traditional English chophouse. I feel transported in the past and that’s what we were looking for
L. K.
Beautiful building, great ambiance
C. R.
Okay, there's two things about this place I find golden, one being the food which is simply divine, and the second being the old rustic feel and layout with its cosy and bustling atmosphere.
The only couple of things which have bugged me slightly the few times I've been in is the service can be a bit hit or miss, depends on who is looking after you. The other thing is the roast Sunday dinner charges a hefty £5+ for things like Cauliflower cheese added on, which I find to be extortionate. Id rather pay a bit more and have all the trimmings, but not over a fiver for one extra thing.
That being said, the roast beef Sunday dinner pictured here is simply amazing, the beef is so tender and tasty. And I'll still go back. Soon.
R. N.
The food is amazing. It’s pricey, but worth every penny. The drinks are exorbitantly expensive, it’s worthy to get a pint of beer than a stingy cup of coke (full of ice), they should have more sense on the price of the drinks. The overall experience was good.
T. K.
Really nice restaurant with paneled walls in green and a cosy ambience as well as a pretty cool service. If you want to spend a nice evening, it’s definitely worth going here. Thank you!
C. J.
Generally a very nice experience here. Excellent choice of ale and the food is hearty goodness (their corned beef hash is a highlight).
One star off is because I just got charged £2.75 for less than half an orange juice out of a cheap carton. I could have gotten beer cheaper.
P. B.
An oasis in a desert of high rise office blocks.
Enter here and step back in time, totally unwind from the hustle and bustle of city centre life with a great pint and watch the world go by.
A must visit whilst in Manchester, totally original features all over the pub.
Absolutely fabulous.
Accept American Express too, small business so you get a £5 discount in December when you spend £10 or more 👍🏼

Hadn't been for 5 years, as soon as I knew I was going to Manchester I knew where I'd be eating. Awesome, love this place.
A. C.
Without doubt one of the best bars in Manchester, it’s like going back in time and has a unique atmosphere which cannot be replicated. Happy friendly staff and reasonably priced booze, you can’t go wrong.
T. R.
Fantastic food served with a dollop of Mancunian history, first visit but won't be our last 👌🏻😋
R. W.
Nice cosy place to eat or drink ....food was very tasty I had the hake in lentils , very tasty and filling . Not to romantic but definately a place to go with a group of friends family with good English menu . A little on the expensive side .
m. l.
Great atmosphere, great food, great staff. This is a warm and welcoming place in the heart of the city and we had a lovely time.
P. N.
Fantastic Olde Worlde Pub. Great building good range of beers and gin. Friendly staff and reasonable prices
W. B.
Have the corned beef hash!
Great place for a business lunch.
S.
Nice local restaurant with lovely food. I shall definitely eating again there if I return back to Manchester
M. P.
Beautiful pub with a decent selection of beers and the music playing on a Wednesday afternoon was excellent
S. T.
Good Art Nouveau decor and fish n chips is satisfyingly delicious. Moreish sort of mind. The only downside was there was a bug in the inside of the glass. Hygiene has to be improved.
I. C.
A really good place, excelent beers and meats.
C. S.
Excellent beer and food pub with beautifully preserved edwardian decor.
M. w.
Very good bar staff very nice well worth a visit 😀 👍
C. J.
Nice patio next shadowed by an old church. The gin cocktails and bar staff were tip-top. One included gin soaked apricots. Mmmmm
B. R.
Definitely a must go in Manchester. Good price and good local food
a.
The service was great. The food was not very exciting.
I had the roast dinner, the beef and Yorkshire pudding were lovely but the vegetables were awful. My OH had the Potato hash which he said was lovely.
I expected more from here.
D. M.
The bar is very good... Sat outside.. Very relaxed and waiting staff excellent, helpful and friendly..... Only gripe is £5:45 for a pint of Heineken... Really? Basic cheap lager?? Ridiculous for a city centre pub in the middle of Manchester :( especially when buisness are fighting to stay alive because of Covid. Hope the management can reply here to justify this price!! Was hoping to return one day...bit doubtfull now!
K.
Fantastic old fashioned pub. We got the 50% off the food which is a bonus at the moment. Emily was lovely, great smile and great service. She made us feel so welcome. I would definitely recommend this place to eat and drink. Love the decor and everything about building. They also have an outdoor area which is very nice to sit in while it was sunny. Food is amazing if you are looking for proper English food. I will be back again soon.
J. L.
Cute small pub with reasonably priced drinks and nice decor
A. B.
Great food and atmosphere, well priced and a must visit.
H. M.
Great pub. Excellent staff and good beer, not expensive either
A. P.
Had a greal meal here with the family ! Great food, i recommend
g. m.
Traditional chops although my pork t bone was slightly over cooked for my liking. Service excellent and busy which is always a good sign!
S. S.
Had some really good meals in this place lately. Ooh the pie's are yummy
G. A.
Oldie worldie style pub/restaurant with really good food and really good service. I had fish fingers and I highly recommend you try them, you will be surprised and very impressed. Great selection of beers and cocktails. Very popular therefore I recommend you prebook.
S. R.
Firstly, I have to say that the food and service here was fantastic and even the above average prices on the food would not have stopped me from returning to this beautiful old pub. We were not offered a drinks menu but we knew what we wanted so when I got the bill at the end I was horrified. £11 for a glass of wine and £9.50 for prosecco is just too much. When you're paying more for a glass of wine than you would generally pay for a bottle then things have just got silly. Enough profit is made on wine, there is no need to take the p**s. We had a sharing meal, 4 drinks between us and it was the government scheme but we still ended up with a £60 bill for lunch! It's a shame but we won't be returning.
A. K.
Overall the food quality was quite good. Though I found some dishes were less flavorful and not as characteristic. The selection of beers and ales was pretty extensive and intriguing. The service was attentive and friendly. The dining atmosphere was very characteristic, but the wooden tables and chairs clustered closely were neither cozy nor too comfortable.
T. O.
Always great but definitely call ahead for a table.
M. W.
Beautiful pub! But quite pricey and beer was on the warm side.
A. I. (.
The food was excellent, we went on a recommendation as we were meeting a friend from Australiafor a meal ,drinks and chat. Staff very friendly, the one who served us had just returned from Australia and had enjoyed her trip and had a chat. We had fish and chips, and you got an enormous fish, loads of chips and peas. We went for the fixed meal with starter, meal and pudding. Well worth another visit when next we in Manchester
B. B.
A very traditional british pub and restaurant. Good food beers and wine. A very nice place.
R. M.
Had a pint one afternoon and later in the week lunch with my family. Quite busy at lunch time but still quick service. Really enjoyed the food - Shepheards pie, Fish & chips and Cesar salad. We were very happy with the food and very good service by the manager lady and a gentleman water. The pub decor is nice with old green tiles and a separate dining area. Recommend!
R. S.
The food here is really good and the staff are lovely but it's expensive for what it is. This almost makes up for the rest of the experience. Almost. It's not a cozy place to eat, there's a bar at the front for drinkers -- mostly men -- which makes it loud and lairy.
However the worst part is the toilets. They are so bad that it should be illegal. They are in the basement and were literally under water when I went down there like a cheap Titanic knock off. No toilet roll in the holder in the cubicle, it was on the floor, completely soaked. And the smell was as you'd expect for a completely sodden basement that people pee in all day. That's fine for an old man's pub but not for a contemporary place to take your family for a meal.
Glad we came but we will not be coming again.
L.
Never tried food here, but good selection of drinks, good seating and a pleasant atmosphere. A tad pricey perhaps but unfortunately, most places are in Manchester nowerdays as we seem to have become the northern alternative to London!
A. T.
Lovely place; the interior is great to take in. The shepherd's pie I had tasted very decent, although a little bit bland. The side of pickled red cabbage that came with it was more delicious and surprising. The same goes for the celeriac soup; the flavour of the soup itself wasn't very exciting, but the smoked chicken that came with it was superb. Staff was attentive, and location was smack in the middle of the centre. All in all a would recommend and a solid four stars.
S. W.
I walked past this pub twice a day on the way to and from the office and I've always wanted to go there. Managed to convince the guys on my leaving do to call in and we pretty much stayed for the rest of the night. Great character, and a large range of quality beers. This is one of my favourite bars in Manchester and I will be returning.
L. ..
We were in Manchester last Weekend for the "Giants Live" Show and twice had a lovely time at this pub! Very cosy, nice staff and great beer. Unfortunately we didn't order food, but looked delicious. Definitely will come back next time
G. W.
Roast Dinner was brilliant. Sausage stuffing was brilliant and the beef cooked perfectly if you like things on the rare side
C. G.
Had a lovely afternoon celebrating my sons 21st, felt like part of the heart of real Manchester
S. J.
Stopped in for a drink on our Christmas lunch pub crawl. It's such a lovely old building, the architecture is superb. Loads of different wines to choose from. Not cheap but ambience is great. It's been one of my favourite pubs for about 20 years. Only downside are the toilets, not very pretty, but manageble. In summer, there's a little area to the rear in St Anne's Sq that's been cordoned off for outdoor seating area and that's very pleasant. Generally busy, not rowdy though, it's long and narrow so can be a bit "cosy" but I think that adds to it's overall warmth.
P. S.
One of my favourite Manchester pubs. They always have my favourite beer (Landlord), the atmosphere is always warm and inviting, there's hustory and character aplenty and it's a great place to just sit by the window and watch the world go by!
I haven't yet eaten here, but I intend to soon.....
M.
Good for eating English food. I had lamb with mashed potatoes and I must say it was one of the best lambs I've ever eaten. My friend had beef hash which was also very good.
A shame that they only do Yorkshire puddings on Sunday.
The beer is really good and the choice of beers is relatively unique.
I. B.
Called in on a Friday lunch time, the place was busy, but not too bad. Had a very decent IPA to drink then thankfully there were tables available for myself and a colleague. I had the corned beef hash, colleague had the pork chop and both were really good.
Having read some of the other reviews, the staff were really good and the food was hot when we visited. All in all it was a decent, not too badly priced experience and will go back.
C. S.
The food is quality, nice staff, lovely house.
M. D.
Amazing northern food, and a good atmosphere. We tried the steak pudding and corned beef hash, which were both lovely. Very filling and reasonably priced for a meal out in Manchester.
A. S.
Well I wasn't fussed at first when having a drink in the bar, it looked like run down old man's pub but the menu got my attention. When we were taken throughout the restaurant I was pleasantly impressed. I ordered the roast chicken and it was delicious. My partner went for the corned beef hash pie and OMG did I have food envy, the even corned the beef themselves! We will definitely be returning.
M. W.
Sausage stall is absolutely incredible at the back, best sausages in the world, Grandad's Sausages, remember the name.. they are going places!
c. g.
Beautiful old pub. Great history. Excellent food and drinks. Staff are friendly and attentive.
M. G.
Great little place. Walked past it so many times and finally made it in for St Patrick's Day. Despite not having anything the food smelled amazing. Guys behind the bar were lovely. Its quite small and we got in there quite late, so I wouldn't know what it's like on a really busy day.
P. “. B.
Another of my Manchester favourites, a great architectural building that serves a great variety of beers and also offers up some great food.
The inside is lined with glazed tiles which are lovely and good photo's of local celebrities its a nice place but its also quite narrow and at busy periods the bar area gets easily congested. With quite restricted access from any entrance and with the toilets down some steep stairs probably not suitable for those with physical disabilities.
There is though a beer garden at the rear that backs onto St Anne Square, this is a rarity in a city centre and always well attended on a sunny day.
i. a.
A quiet and relaxing place. Also, lovely secluded beer garden to the rear. There was a pleasant atmosphere.
D. H.
Nice building and great ale. This could easily be a 5 star, but the service is appalling! I've never seen such slow bar staff. Took about 15 minutes to get a pint.
K. E.
Myself and the family went here recently for dinner after visiting the Christmas markets. It a very quaint and cosy establishment with a very interesting history. The food quality was five star and very reasonably priced. The service from the staff was also excellent, will be revisiting in the near future.
K. L.
An historic location with some some fine original features. While the food is consistent, the place feels like it is resting on its laurels with the bathrooms and stairs which lead to them in urgent need of modernisation. On a cool September evening, I would expect the doors to be closed, even if saving the extravagance of switching on the heating for the bleaker winter months. Service was so so.
M. W.
Pub and restaurant. Pub bit small and full of suits whenever I go past. But restaurant is great - Old school British classics jazzed up a bit - proper northern portions too. Awesome Victorian tiled interior is very atmospheric - totally intact. If you want big hearty pub food turned up a notch, then worth a try. Steak and kidney suet pudding is a winner.
S. C.
Not been here for about 6 yrs. Used to love this place. Even at weekends when in the city used to come 4 lunch. Drinks prices seem to have increased and just did not av the atmosphere. Wont put me off but with soo many other options now wont rush back.
M. S.
We had a great meal here. Great local food, fab staff and service and brilliant decor. Would definitely return and highly recommend.
G. A.
Went today (Monday) at about 1.30pm. asked for a table for two. Shown to a table but we asked for us to move to another as one of us would have been in the way of servers and customer traffic etc ,!.
Offered menus. Chose the 2 course's Pre theatre menu for £15.00. Both of us had fish and chips with tartare sauce and mushy peas. All very tasty and would highly recommend this.
However. Considering that the place wasn't too busy we had a while before it arrived ( should have said we were running out of time) .
All in all a good lunch (lemon Cambridge pudding was unusual; bit like a lemon posset)
Total bill came to £38.50.
Pre theatre menu X 2 £30.00
2 X pepsi diet drinks £5.00
Service charge £3.50
One thing we didn't realise is that a 10% service charge was automatically generated into the final invoice. Surely it should be the customer that decides on the gratuity ?
Perhaps the service charge should be clearly sited for customers to acknowledge.
M. C.
Great quality food and a good beer selection here. The Sunday roast is amazing as is most of the seasonally rotated menu. I've been visiting this and the other Chop houses for the last 18 years and still love the experience.
A. C.
Great food and staff. We all had Sunday dinners. Beef was fab and home made gravy.
M. L.
My husband and I came for a meal to Tom's Chop House for his birthday, never eaten here before, but its such a quaint British pub, full of character. Being midweek, we were surprised at how busy it was, but there were a few tables spare. We only ordered main meals and thankful, afterwards, as there was no way we would have manged a starter or dessert, but at the same time disappointed as I would have loved to have had all 3 courses. The main meals were so full of flavour, delicious and very filling. I highly recommend the Corned Beef Hash, not a meal you would expect to order out, and I was delighted as it was so so tasty! My husband also throughly enjoyed his Steak & Kidney Pudding. Two lovely winter dishes. The atmosphere was relaxed, not overly cozy however and the staff could have been a bit friendlier. We had a nice bottle of red which we chose from the extensive wine list. I wish I had room for cheese and biscuits. Next time we go, I think we will order just starters and desserts just to see if they live up to the main meals (I'm sure they will!). Overall, this place is superb for food and I would tell everyone to try.
F. B.
I have been several times to this pub, have to say that I love it. Food is just great, the hash is spectacular. A very nice choice of beers and waiters are very kind. I will come back many more times!
J. F.
Superb ornate pub with excellent food.
H. B.
One of my favorite traditional pubs in Manchester! The atmosphere is cozy, even though it's located in the center of town it's never annoyingly crowded or flooded with tourists. The beer selection is reasonable, the staff is friendly and helpful and the food in the dining area is heavenly.
C. H.
I've inly been in once. It's not a big bar so the bar staff should be able to keep track of who they should serve next. There was one other person at the bar when I arrived who was getting served. Someone arrived just as they were paying and the barman went straight to them, same thing happened again as that person arrived and someone else got served before me. It really wasn't that busy either.
A. M.
Great venue.
My plate of braised ox cheek was well prepared but possibly less flavoursome than I would expect.
Colleagues ate corned beef hache with poached egg and they chose better on the day.
Xmas pud was quite good.
Service excellent.
Definitely try it.
S. L.
Lovely atmosphere and great decor. Traditional food done really well. The corned beef hash is unlike anything I've eaten before. Great wine recommendation from the waiter too!
D. S.
Wonderful place and full of character.
It's been here since 1867 and stood the test of time, even the IRA bomb which went off a short distance away in 1996 wasn't enough to destroy this absolute Manchester nugget.
Tom's is one of the very few places left in Manchester that has stuck to its roots and have not spent obscene sums of money trying to make it more like a swanky bar / restaurant in London.
The pub has all of it's original features and have a great beer garden at the rear which is brilliant on warm (but rare) sunny days to enjoy a few drinks and a bite to eat with friends.
The food here is excellent, has a great reputation amongst the city workers and residents. Prices are fairly average with burgers at around £9, but for the ultimate Toms experience you cant leave without having sampled their classic fish & chips at £13.
c. r.
One of the best pubs in Manchester. Beautiful period building with glazed tiles indoors with a nice outdoor seating area overlooked by St. Ann's Church.
The food is superb and highly recommended!
G. H.
I love this place but it's ruined by lack of staff at the bar. Went recently for food, there was a 10 minute wait, so we thought of getting a drink but only one barman on, and the queue was big so we ate elsewhere. Shame I've fancied eating her for a while.
L. H.
Thomas's chop house is a one-off. It looks very unassuming from the outside but inside is a gem. All tiles and wood. A great selection of beers. There isn't much seating so you need to be lucky to get a seat. We didn't eat but the menu looked gorgeous. Can't recommend highly enough
M. S.
Food was absolutely fantastic. Try the Argentinian Malbec if you're having red meat! Real British food executed perfectly. Interior is unique and charming. The history of the place is plain to see. The staff were welcoming and friendly.
P. M.
Went here last night for dinner and it was fantastic. I had food I couldn't easilyget in the states and loved it. Lamb sweatbreads starter and Steak and Kidney pie. Both were great. The place is spotlessly clean and the staff were great. Recommend
O. H.
First, I was hesitating whether to give 3 or 4 stars and at the end decided to give three - I will explain why below. We went there with a group of eight people for a dinner. Inside, it is a nice, well preserved Victorian pub. Food was good, I had Corned Beef Hash and Lemon Posset which I thoroughly enjoyed. What was not so nice, was 45 minutes it took from order to meal being actually served. Observing other guests, I think the size of group seem to be in direct correlation how long it takes to prepare meals. So I suppose if we went in a group of four I could have given 4 stars.
A. D.
A narrow slice of authenticity, and by narrow I mean the width! This place is so conveniently placed in the middle of city with a great atmosphere and lovely staff, there's a fantastic beer garden round the back neighbouring with St Anne's square. This place is quite often missed since its not so obvious but keep an eye out, its well worth it.
C. H.
Nice place with a good beer garden but beer is nudging £5 a pint. That's just far too much. No place should charge above £3.50,regardless of beer type or location.
L. K.
Good wine choice but toilets are absolutely awful
S. R.
The home of Manchester's or dare I say UK's best Corned Beef Hash. No it's not corned beef from a can or even the dish served in Scouts. This is the real deal with saltpetre aged brisket, runny egg and much more. Does the property need some TLC, yes, should it have it, no, no it shouldn't. This is a real fancy old northern pub with great food, wines and beers.
The photo is taken from the pub as the IRA bombing happens.
P. C.
The deco is very nostalgic but I have a very spooky feeling when the lamp above my table dim down slowly and bright out suddenly and repeat it in cycle. Some of the Victoria portrait at the entrance wall also add the spookiness of the space...Shame upstairs is not openned to public...I am sure more to uncover some unspoken stories....
R. T.
Authentic chop house dating back to pre victorian times offering authentic dishes . If you only try 1, this is the best. Amazing tiled interior, good range of drinks and friendly staff. Gets busy at peak times, so book if you want to eat.
G. M.
Nice pub but felt that one of the staff members was a bit cheeky. Maybe I could blame youth, but when I ordered a double gin and tonic she said ' you do know that's a tenner?? I font think like I come across as a person who can't afford a double gin and t.
M. W.
AMAZING! The food is amazing! Corned beef hash, steak and kidney pudding! I can't think of any better, not even my own, and I'm a pretty good cook! ( My husband thinks mine is better ❤)
S. V.
If you have just one night in Manchester, like I did, this would be the spot to try some local cuisine. The corn beef hash came in highly recommend, and no doubt was awesome. This place has history and food to back it up.
T. K.
Food is always incredible and the staff are always awesome! Not to mention how beautiful the beer garden is - stunning views of St Ann's Church 😍
T. O.
really authentic. nice staff and lovley atmosphere, would definitely go again and recommend 👍🏻👍🏻
T. P.
Great beers and delicious food. Our food did turn up before two of our drinks but other than that it was lovely.
M. M.
Atmospheric, historic pub. Friendly staff, and in the warm weather the option to sit outside. A good IPA,, although the food a little pricy.
D. G.
Excellent traditional food, great service, and good ale all in a lovely Victorian setting. Would happily dine here again in the afternoon or evening!
H. H.
Lovely venue, great outdoor seating area behind St Ann's church for summer drinks. Slightly expensive and bar is small but very wide selection of drinks especially spirits.
E. B.
Lovely place, beautiful interior
J. K.
Lovely beef dinner - veg too Al Dante! Not enough gravy - is there ever? ☺️
D. F.
Great venue, staff friendly but the food expensive and not worth the money. Fried fish very good, but the chips hard and the cheese pie best forgotten. Pity
H. W.
Great service & a good old fashioned menu. We had corned beef hash & cottage pie. Would highly recommend. We sat outside & there was a great atmosphere.
J. R.
Nice place but only had a half of beer on a quiet night. When we are there a few years ago we were well impressed and unbelievably stuffed!

Breaks the walk between Victoria and Oxford road.

Yesterday, my wife and I popped into the chophouse for a spot of lunch we were met immediately by a very welcoming member of staff who immediately showed us to a perfect table for two. We were then introduced to a waiter is name was Tom and a very nice gentleman he was. We ordered two glasses of Prosecco wine to start off our lunch, Tom then produced the menus and I ordered the steak and kidney pudding with chips and mushy peas, and my good lady ordered the fish. The food was of very high quality particular by sticking in the pudding which was filled to the brim with lots of steak and a vehicle amount of kidney. Hi good ladyfish was also of a very high standard cooked to perfection the perfect poached egg and wonderful potatoes. After a short rest and a half glass of Maretta beer we then ordered puddings my good lady plumped for the beautiful and sweet rice pudding and I plumped for the assortment of ice cream with shortbread. Tom gave us the 50% discount on the meal, and we were thoroughly delighted with the service from Tom and the rest of the Staff and the food was a very high quality and served very professionally, after our first experience of dining at the chophouse I can personally guarantee that my wife and I will know make this our regular dining venue, once again I would like to mention Tom the waiter for all this kind and helpful manner, hope to see you all soon thank you very much indeed, Peter and Alison Shockledge

The food is delicious, would definitely recommend
J. D.
Sunday roast beef dinner absolutely fantastic. We tried drinks from the gin menu and were delighted with them. Would definitely recommend Mr Thomas's.
J. G.
Food very good as usual but service pretty bad, after our main course plates were cleared we were not offered dessert menus and after a 30 minute wait paid the bill and went for gelato! Waiter barely spoke to us at any point during the meal, we didn't pay the service charge.
W. G.
Nice old fashioned pub (and restaurant). Good place to go for drinks. I've eaten here on a few occasions and have enjoyed my food every time.
P. P.
Nice old decor. Decent food, good choice. Nothing to dislike.
A. T.
Lovely Victorian pub with typical English menu. But, buy your drinks including bottles of wine, at the bar to avoid paying service charge on them!!
S. S.
Good roast lamb dinner xz
R. E.
The place itself is incredible. Drinks are excellent. High quality food, APART from the deep-fried fish, which was awful; I think it was frozen. Expensive food and drinks.
E. J.
Good service and reasonable priced drinks. Nice Victorian indoor decor. Good food menu too....must eat one of these days
R. C.
Good beer though not cheap. Lovely tiled interior. Limited seating for drinkers not eating . Regular toilets down steep steps in basement
A. A. S.
Very cosy place, friendly staff and excellent service
G. M.
Excellent service, the food was fresh and tasty all round quality.. keep it up Mr T
B. P.
Food as always good and the beer impeccable. Lovely place for a quick bit and a drink in the city. Staff and friendly and helpful
T. T.
Excellent food in a beautiful setting. Very helpful staff and real ales on offer. Could not ask for a better experience in the City.
A. C.
Great cornbeef hash and general food restaurant standard.
Little on expensive side for a posh pub but worth it.
Staff always good and beautiful historical building.
Just go and try the food 😁
A. S.
Food and ale were good. Staff were patient and friendly. Visited with 2 young children and nothing was too much trouble.
S. D.
Tom's Chop House has a great reputation amongst locals but is still a bit of a hidden gem, you could easily walk past it. Architecturally it's one of the most stunning buildings in Manchester so if you visit make sure you take it all in.
AS for the beer it's a great place for after work drinks and to meet friends with a really friendly atmosphere, the long thin bar can be misleading so make sure you have a good luck for a free table.
Also if the sun is out check out the beer garden that links to St Annes Square.
s. l.
Visited on many occasions the food was excellent a good choice of ales nice wines and the girl who served up was fantastic what's not to like
M. H.
Good and friendly service but at nearly £6 a pint i thought I was in London.
M.
Mr Thomas's chop house is a lovely old building in Manchester, it's a basic menu, no fancy food here. But it's decent for the price. Recommend the cornbeef hash.
P. H.

K. M.

One of my favourites in the centre of Manchester, the pub is quite small but this adds to the atmosphere, great selection of ales as well
S. R.
Second time at Mr Thomas's. First time i had the corned beef hash with bacon and runny poached egg , it was so tasty I had to have it again . Fantastic building to eat in . The atmosphere is better during the day unusually . You must try this place
S. S.
Nice Victorian style pub. Food is good but can get busy at times so there is sometimes a long wait for food. Really good outside area at the back for when the weather is nice
C. M.

C. S.
Scrumptious food, wonderful beers, fabulous service. All wrapped up in an iconic location. A must-visit place.
E. M.
You can truly see this as a victorian chop house. Fab tiling and lits of original features. Only down sides the toilets are down very steep steps and there are not a lot of seats.
A. L.
I love this restaurant! We're here every time we have visitors. Absolutely fantastic food, good drinks, and good service.
S. B.
Popped in for a couple of beers which were excellent, never had any food so can't comment on that but a nice pub with character.
