Reviews of Railway Inn (Didsbury)
S.
Great quirky boozer, friendly staff, cheap decent pints.
k. k.
This is our second trip to Didsbury in the three years we have lived in Manchester and we are so happy we found The Railway Inn. Stella was lovely and helpful, putting the football on for my boyfriend and getting all of our drinks. Everyone in the pub was lovely and in great spirits. Thank you for a fabulous time and we will definitely be back :-)
D. L.
If you want a proper no nonsense pub feel then this is the place for you. Relaxed atmosphere and friendly staff. Very reasonably priced drinks with cask available.
M. P.
Came in a while back and haven’t been back in till tonight because we were going for food down the road, I don’t know if they have changed the beers but tasted amazing I had a bitter and my wife had a gold I think.
The staff was so lovely and funny and will definitely be back!
A. T.
We called in to the Railway Inn for a couple of drinks before getting some food, across the road, whilst in the area on business. Upon meeting we Stella we couldn't wait to return and spent until closing drinking weird beer and listening to the juke box. The evening was one of the best i've had in ages in a cracking little pub. Don't make any assumptions from the outside, go inside, you won't be disappointed. Grandad, Geek, Cabbage, Pete Sutcliffe and Polish.

Came in tonight was really busy and such a good atmosphere! Quickly served by wonderful staff. Would highly reccomend this local boozer to anyone whos looking for a cracking night! Thankyou to the staff for making our night even more enjoyable really appricate it!

Met friends for drinks before a birthday meal for one of them. Friendly proficient staff, good real ale (Holt's Two Hoots), reasonable prices for West Didsbury. Quite busy on a Friday evening, but we still managed to get seated around a table. Up one star since previous review (pre Covid).
August 2022 popped in for a final drink on the way home. Busy with a quiz night. Poor ventilation, but we opened the windows, which the quiz goers had not had the wit to do. Pub now operating normally.
J. G.
Lovely warm atmosphere and a very friendly bar team- couldn't be happier with quality either, great gaff
B. “. M.
Lovely, Homely, Local type Pub. My tip is to aim for one of the window seats, which give unrivalled panoramic views of the varied Didsbury Wildlife, from the lowest form of Hunter-Gatherer,
- The Metropolitan Dimpper, lifetime mash-heads, constantly circling, looking for any dropped fag ends, up to
- The Puni-Uni, a Post-Grad Fake Jogger, wearing who only ever seen walking to some deli or other, despite wearing head to toe high end running gear & iPhone took in his armband
Seen here as famous local drinker, Buzzer, nips home
J. C.
Great little pub set back in the High st. Nice to go for a chill and relax . Nice atmosphere and what a proper friendly pub should be.
They show sky sports and has a quiz night each week
Well worth a visit . Great pint
N. R.
Popped in for a quick drink. Lovely young couple running it, very friendly and welcoming. Can’t wait to go back for the jubilee celebrations 🥳
F. D.
Best value pub in West Didsbury, good selection of local beers on tap and will show any sport on TV that you ask for
R. 1.
Amazing place i love the landlord and landlady! Proper pub managers the way a pub should be run! Top people come over!
T. D.
Why is it so bright, great prices and has a good jukebox and nice atomsphere but why is it so god damn bright. Please, turn the lights down!!
K. M.
Absolute belter of a pub!
Friendly and funny staff you can have a laugh with, decent prided beers and a great atmosphere!
C. B.
Great pub for a quiet solo whisky or a huge night out. Emergency condoms can also be found hidden at Burton Road tram stop, in case you get lucky. All in all 5 stars.
D. C.
Decent pub, friendly staff, limited draft selection though
j. h.
Busy pub on a Saturday night. Friendly atmosphere. All different ages. Guy's wanting us to smell their aftershaves!!! Good fun
P. P.
We go here after our football matches at Hough End. Big TV for sports and reasonably priced drinks. Pub quiz some nights too
E.
Cute little spot. Standard pub with good energy, quick service and friendly staff. Open fire is a bonus after cold winter strolls. Recommend if ever passing!
S. J.
Amazing atmosphere, great beer and good company. Very relaxed and friendly. Brilliant decor which most bars and pubs lack.l

Visited during the pandemic. This pub has never had table service but the staff embrace it. They are everything you want from a bartender but now also they are extra attentive, I have been in a number of times since the new restrictions began and apart from ensuring all safety regulations are adhered to they often approach before your drink is finished to check if you would like another. They have done their utmost to give you the same experience as you would always get and that is a rarity. I don't like waiting (who does) but they have almost eliminated it. In these uncertain times all I can say is that the staff here are a prized asset and I hope they are treated and rewarded as such.
G. M.
Great pub and good beer for a cheap price
N. S.
Top little boozer, nice cozy real fires, decent pint and prices.
J. M.
Great staff, great atmosphere! Would definitely recommend!
A. T.
The friendliest pub - a constant delight. A proper local pub with excellent Holt's beer. Essential whether you're a local or visiting.
C. L.
Good atmosphere with friendly staff and good selection of beers. Toilets are upstairs thought there's a wheelchair accessible toilet on the ground floor.
I. m.
Great old bar with lots of caricature
D. E.
Nice to have an old style pub where you can have a conversation and a cheap pint, in an area that is full of bars. Nice bar staff too.
N. R.
Great atmosphere, reasonably prices friendly staff.
J. S.
Straightforward local boozer with Holes real ales and 2 or 3 guests plus a reasonable range of bottles and spirits. Last time I went there was some decent live music and it was busy and noisy with excellent craic (it was a Saturday). Cheap prices for the location and some other spots nearby well worth a visit mean you can make a night of it.
C. U.
Great local pub staff really friendly. Well kept beer. Good selection of Lager and ciders. Wines good and not over the top prices. Good pub to watch the football too.
S. R.
Proper British boozer! Well priced beer, good choice, fantastic staff, community atmosphere. What more could you ask for from a decent honest local? One of the main reasons I don't wanna move away from the area....
M. M.
One of West Didsbury's more traditional pubs. Run and owned by Joseph Holt, it sells their range of cask ales at reasonable prices. Doesn't get the trendy crowd in, just a decent no-nonsense boozer at heart. Very good.
D. M.
Great staff, quick friendly service, good range of beer and liquor, great little boozer
A.
Nice little pub with good value drinks.
R. M.
Good choice of ales and wines at pretty reasonable prices. Polite and friendly staff, clean toilets although they are upstairs so not wheelchair friendly, otherwise a great place to grab a snug and sit with friends.
J. K.
Great little pub. Unpretentious and the blonde barman is relly lovely and helpful.
D. H.
Great prices, compared to to other pubs in west Didsbury. Great atmosphere. Friendly staff. Great for footie and sports. Ticks all the Boxes for me.
D. B.
Decent pub. Good quiz on Tuesdays. Go to for west dids for me
B. M.
It's ok. Guest cask beers can be very mixed quality - I had a pint of Bootleg in there and it was atrocious, very badly kept. The Holts own are usually OK. Reasonably priced compared to some Didsbury options.
J. L.
This place was mint! Beer was spot on. Little acoustic act on at the back. Cracking atmosphere. And to top it off one of the bar maids was stunning hot too ;)
J. W.
Decent casual bar in West Didsbury. More of a typical local pub rather than a trendy place like a lot of others around the area.
Good beer selection and cheaper than other West Didsbury bars.
S. C.
Cosy tavern in the heart of Didsbury. Holt's ales. Occasional music venue. Quiz nights. Sky sports on big TV.
J. W.
The Railway is a nice, cheap and cheerful pub in West Didsbury, which if you know West Didsbury, you'll know isn't common. Can sometimes lack atmosphere due to not having music on, and usually shows the football or rugby.
C. A.
West Didsbury's only surviving genuine pub. Holt's usual selection of ales and some interesting guest beers. Friendly staff and good jukebox
S. M.
Good local very friendly
T. L.
Traditional Holt pub fine cask beers friendly staff unfortunately don't serve food hence it being quiet when i called in
J. O.
Don't be fooled by the 'Joseph Holt' mark as this is a great local without the 'chain' feel. Good selection of ever changing taps and shows popular sports regularly.
D. T.
Nice bar, good beer whether your a craft fan or not, a good atmosphere and dog friendly - what more could you want.
T. G.
One of the few places on Burton Road to do a reasonably priced pint. Also great on match day as there is a big TV to watch the football
A. L.
Cracking local, a mix of locals, students and the idle rich. Some sports on screen match days. Only pub promoting local up and coming bands.
I. M.
A proper pub in an area awash with trendyness. Really nice beer, shame they did not have the mild on hand pump, in fact any mild :(
B. A.
Great pub with a brilliant atmosphere. They also do great free live music nights.
E. M.
Love this pub. They do a great range of beers, including Fruli, which is my personal favourite.
J. C.
Great local, good range of beer on tap with friendly bar staff. Much prefer this to The Metropolitan across the road.
E. F.
Great pub. Friendly regulars. Reasonably priced. Live music once or twice a month
H. D.
Lovely cosy local with bags of character and great staff. Good prices
s. v.
So much better than the metropolitan across the road. Decent beer and doesn't feel like you're on the set of footballers wives.
A. L. S. R.
A classic pub, busy with locals on a weekday. Many taps. Good selection. Saved an old building from going derelict.
P. D.
A proper olde world English pub. Holt's so low prices. No frills, just a nice place to relax on a Sunday afternoon
D. C.
Really good pub, great Guinness, friendly staff, but why why why does it always smell of toilet cleaner in the middle and back room.... !
J. Q.
Beer a bit pricey
C. B.
Old fashioned style 0ub. A proper pub

A local that isn't shy about being just that, there's a fire, good beers and slightly shabby interior, sometimes that's just what the doctor ordered
