Very nice place to have a few drinks and some delicious pub food reasonably priced. The Botanist is beautifully decorated, the cocktails and selection of drinks is is impressive. I really enjoyed my halloumi hanging kebab and sweet chili fries. The staff is very approachable and attentive. Special thanks to our waiter Sam who kindly made sure that we were happy and well attended at all times. Will go back :)

Visited botanist on a Saturday night and it was very crowded. The place had good vibes with live music. We're ordered hanging kebab and sweet potato hummus. Kebab was dry, not worth the price and is popular only for Instagram. The hummus was good. We also ordered Japanese whiskey cocktail and mulled wine. The cocktail was mediocre and the mulled wine was so sweet that it was not palatable. Our waiter was coughing throughout the service and didn't bother to put a mask on. She looked sick and was clearly not happy to be waitressing that night.

If I had rated after the starter it would have been a 5. A birthday lunch for my much better 1/2. I had onion petals to start which were hit crispy and delightful. The ladies both had calamari which was small but perfectly formed. For a main I had the hanging lamb kebab which was formed into balls and was over cooked and hard. The garlic oil was oily but not tasty and added nothing to the dish. One of the ladies had roast beef which I though was cold and nit that great a portion either. The other 1/2 had the pork belly which did look great. The veggies that came with the roasts were delish but the brocoli and peas were both cold which was a disappointment. The ladies had some rather fab cocktails ehich they loved but I was driving so had a boring but nice orange and lemonade. Good but not great :(

Always have a good time at the Botanist. Not been for about 3 years. I was shocked to learn the signature botanist cocktail had changed. I love the elderflower mojito, glad it's still on the Menu. Staff are friendly and so interesting. Love sitting at the bar and having a good chat with them. Drinks are amazing and love the fresh ingredients added too and the greenery design throughout feels very refreshing. Definitely a firm favourite for us when we visit the city.

It is that time of year again, you know still feeling ill from too much Christmas pudding, nauseated by even the thought of turkey not to mention Brussels Sprouts (that thought is nauseating any time of year), in addition to risking death taking down the Christmas lights from the soffit boards - bungalow owners being an exception. If all of that isn't enough the weather is dank and thoroughly disagreeable. Never a good time to have a birthday but I've got use to it over the years [stopped counting at fifty a long time ago]. The review! .. Sorry got distracted ... We visited the Botanist, not for plant advice, the restaurant on Deansgate. It had had a rather nice makeover, a mixture of contemporary and shabby chic - Sounds bad but the Botanist pulls the look off very well. We had a three course meal and a drink from the set menu that came with an added bonus. Instead of paying full price if you celebrate a birthday in January you and your guest get the meal for the price of your birthday or should I say your birth date; for example if you were born in 1950 then your bill is £19.50 x the number of people (max of six). Excellent. The food like the decor was thoroughly pleasing; tasty, well presented and well proportioned not a Brussels Sprout in sight - the chicken starter was delicious. Sounds like a gimmick, it is not - well worth a visit. If you are not born in January I'm sure you can find an aunt or cousin who is. If not I'm available ;-)

I booked a group of 12 and thanks to covid and a couple no shows we ended up with 6. Not a problem. They were extremely accommodating. The food was brilliant. The starters were so good and the hanging kebabs just incredible. The biggest shout out goes to our server Teela, (sorry if spelt wrong). An absolute delight. So bubbly, friendly and good at her job. All The staff were good but she really stood out. Thanks for a great night. 👍👍

This was our second visit and we enjoyed it thoroughly. A lovely atmosphere even though its very busy, service was nicely spread out between 3 courses and the food was delicious, the toilets are downstairs though but that's the only dislike for me, lovely staff, nice bar area and lovely cocktails. We've been here a few times and was a little disappointed this time. One of the starters, cheesy garlic bread was over done, burnt cheese on top and tasted of salt. The hanging chicken kebabs were very oily and that was without the garlic oil added. The cheese burger was quite dry. We did get a refund on the garlic bread without any fuss. But we had to ask for clean cutlery as ours was dirty and hadn't been used by us. The cocktails were nice and reasonably priced though

Great atmosphere, interesting cocktails served in glasses, test tubes and plant pots. Feels like a very old fancy potting shed. The bar staff don't use measures to make the cocktails so it's all very theatrical. Great Fun. The outside is quite unassuming so it's easy to walk straight past.

Absolutely love The Botanist. Have now visited twice, the most recent on New Year's Eve for a meal and drinks. The decor is quirky and cosy and the food and cocktails some of the best I've ever had. Large selection of both ales and cocktails and I would personally recommend the Sage and Rhubarb Spritz which is a new favourite of mine! There is a separate bar area to continue drinking once finished eating and even on a busy New Year's Eve, service remained excellent and being served at the bar wasn't an issue. There was also live music which was a great addition to the night. There is also an app called New World which has an online loyalty card and shows any offers such as their current one which is 40% off throughout January. Definitely worth a visit!

Visited on a Saturday night for a birthday party. First time I've been in for 5 years so nice to reacquaint myself as i've enjoyed it here in the past. Menu is much changed from my previous visits apart from the hanging kebabs, i tried the Korean chicken burger but was not to my taste sadly. Also, they have gone to contactless payments both at the bar and table which I find a bit annoying. On the plus side the staff were very friendly, couldn't fault the service. I might go back in when it's less busy as a number of items on the menu were sold out. 3 out of 5 stars.

Went for a Sunday roast, unfortunately I have to say that the food was mediocre at best. The potato was burnt, difficult to cut through. The rest of the plate was under-seasoned and bland. The service was also pretty bad, I left my lemon tart with only one bite out of it, and the waitress didn’t bother to ask if everything was alright with it. The other dessert however was pretty delicious, can’t remember the name but it was with nutella and biscoff. Can’t say anything bad about that, it was great. However the rest of the dinner was really underwhelming, the staff seemed overworked and were inattentive. The position of the tables was awkward as well, I kept hitting the person behind me. Most likely won’t come back.

The pros are it's nice to see staff who look happy within there job. The botanist cocktail is lovely. The cons are the temperature dropped allot & when you see customers are cold, you need to turn the heat up & or close the door. I could not really enjoy my icey cocktail 🍹 because I was shivering...

Nice place to grab a cocktail and listen to some live music. Drinks are quirky and fun, but a little on the pricey side. Excellent cocktail menu, and choice of spirits . Service can be a little slow here, but then again it takes time to mix excellent drinks. I'd recommend trying the chilli cocktail, not for the faint hearted though!!

First time at this venue. Good reception but we then waited about 10 mins at our table for service. Once I had alerted them to us being ignored the service was very good and swift. The food was good. My main criticism is the noise. Music was too loud and often sounded like two different tracks were being played! Not ideal for a meal where you can talk and relax.

Myself and my fiancé have been to a good few Botanists around the country and this one didn't dissapoint with the food and drink. The only negative is the restaurant was extremely hot, think they could have done with a few fans or air con to help with this. (it was around 28C outside at the time)

We had our booking for half 8 and I took a out an hour to be served our main dish, as a result we were denied a dessert as the kitchen was closed, that was upseting as no warning or the chance to order a dessert while eating the main dish was offer. This is poor service. The table was uncomfortable as there was no proper place to lean my back . No place to hang my wet jacket my son placed is wet jacket on the floor under the bench.

As soon as you walk in the door there was a lovely feel. The establishment had great atmosphere and had a good crowd there but we did manage to find a free table. My only problem was it was on the pricey side for drink. But overall staff where friendly and drink was nice and we had a good time.

We booked for 4 people. The decor and ambiance of the place is great. The food was overall very good although the pulled pork dish didn't really have much pulled pork on it. The beer was again very nice with some nice Belgian beers. The waiting staff looked after us well enough, but could have been a bit more engaging. The worst put off was the cooking staff in the open plan kitchen close to where we were sitting - they were making way too much noise and at a time when the restaurant itself was medium full, the noise was off-putting.

I love the idea but they could do with different games. It got abit abit boring after 20mins. The drinks and food where fairly priced for Manchester and the staff where nice and friendly. The only problem I had was the website advertised offers but apon arrival we got told they didn't do the offers the website mentions. And a sneeky surcharge is put on at the end! You can ask for this to be removed but only if you notice its on there.

Very nicely themed and styled restaurant, great drinks options served in innovative ways. The same story with the food, hanging kebabs with a variety of sauces to drip over them are an excellent choice. If I was going to be picky I'd say the portion size especially of the side dishes could be a bit more generous but overall it wasn't too bad. Worth going just for the drinks and calm atmosphere, would recommend.

Would highly recommend to a friend. The Service, food and atmosphere were excellent. Was mainly served by Rowan, who was polite and very welcoming, brilliant customer service. Food was served hot and fresh, tasted amazing, definitely one of the best meals I've had in a long time. Atmosphere was great, well decorated and clean, Pianist set a good vibe and all members of staff were approachable. Only visiting the area but if I didn't live so far away I'd definitely become a regular customer.

An amazing find. The food was diverse, interesting and delicious. There were a wide variety of drinks on offer and the specialist cocktails were especially impressive. Firstly the live singer playing the piano was amazing. A wide variety of songs were sang from varying genres and styles. The staff were friendly and polite. The service of food was prompt and was well cooked and served hot. Considering it was a Monday night and we were in a group of 10 there were no problems when we had to change a meal due to food allergies. The set menu was a little short of choice personally but all in all a good restaurant. I would certainly visit again and try meals off the other menu.

Love the place but awful service from one bartender (male with longish hair). Couldn't accept a joke from patrons, arrogant and disrespectful to customers. You are a bartender so please just respect your customers is all I ask for. Disgusted with how he served me one shot of gin in a terrible way. When served by another bartender, this was amazingly done! Attitudes should not be tolerated from a service provision place like a bar. This is NOT A FREE DRINK! It was paid for in full price! Utterly disgusted with the treatment I got.

Loved several aspects of this venue. Great drinks ££, perfect decoration (potting area, propagation) to match the name The Botanist . Music volume good able to hear but not distracting! My only personal complaint would be that the Ladies Toilets ( although very nicely decorated and clean) are down a long flight of stairs.

Made a stop here pre-MEN gig for some food & drinks and really enjoyed it... the menu (although fairly sparse) offers a nice selection of options with a very strong ale selection, all nicely covered in their neatly arranged drinks menu. We were let down last minute for a group booking for food (15 people) and when asked if the botanist could accommodate us (Saturday afternoon) they checked and put a table together for us just like that. There wasn't any delay in taking our drinks and food orders, and the food turn around was brilliant. I honestly can't thank the staff there this afternoon in accomadting us at such short notice.

I imagine it would get busier with drinkers also later on in the day. The food was not the cheapest, but I thought it was good value. My only suggestion would be to cook the wings in the sauce next time as they lacked flavour and I would not order again on this basis. The gumbo was excellent.

Lunchtime visit so limited time, but staff were courteous, helpful and friendly, so we didn't wait long at all to be seated and our order taken. We both ordered from the Lunch menu, which has good variety, I had a lamb kofta and my partner belly pork kebabs, both came with what the menu called "perfectly seasoned chips" (they were to be fair). The food came in a reasonable time and was nicely presented. The shish kebabs came presented hung and the staff member applied the individual drizzle of marinade sauce to each, which looked great, covered the meat and any remnants went onto the chips below. Sat outside, in the sun on Deansgate, which is a great spot for watching the world go by. Having visited here below I would also mention indoors is also a really sweet space, tastefully decorated and comfortable with a chilled vibe. Will definitely visit again soon!
