Nice little boozer - saves food but not on the monday me and my wife was in . saves diamond large - also as a joke box's . toilet can do with a lick of paint and fixtures need looking at in the Gents toilet. hand dryer not working - one of the taps not working - one of the Urinal covered over with black bag new toilet roll holder needed - But overall in a great location. And staff was friendly

My wife and I were in the Old Monkey, yesterday, Wednesday, 9 June, between 6 and 7 approximately. Importantly, the ales and wine were excellent at good prices. However, ten out of ten for the service and Covid protocols. Only one woman was serving downstairs, but also sending drinks upstairs on the dumb waiter. She was amazing and did the work of three staff, while following correct procedures for Covid. She even evicted a customer who was worse for wear, but did it in a polite, firm, friendly manner, with no fuss. Her work efficiency and speed of service should have been filmed and used to train bar staff elsewhere.

Great place. Staff were friendly. I was there to watch a comedian performing upstairs in the function room. Found the place has a great atmosphere as a whole and enjoyed my visit. I have to say its one of the better pubs in Manchester. Would definitely visit again given the opportunity.

Nice little pub with darts and pool table upstairs. Wasn't very busy which meant we had the upstairs to ourselves. Shame the toilets are all the way in the basement, but apart from that, great place for a drink on the way back to the train station.

The atmosphere of your local, but in the middle of the city centre. Good and affordable beer. Air conditioned when the Manchester weather is inexplicably warm. Does the football if that's your thing. Got a lovely upstairs room that's usually a cosy place for a more quiet drink, when it's not booked out for a function. Good and affordable food when it's on.

One of the most affordable pubs in the area, nice staff and I love the upstairs area. Could have a little more variety (more rotating cask ales) but I wouldn't complain as the Joseph Holt ales are decent and very affordable. Staff is always nice.

February 2020 update: Now doing Sunday Lunches at a an incredible price of £7.50! Also showing the 6 Nations rugby. 2019 update. Attended a friend's 60th birthday do and once again Stacy (landlady) along with her team did us proud.The pub was refurbished in 2017. A good selection of Holt's ales are usually on tap. Very reasonable prices for a city centre pub. Had my 60th birthday party here during July 2017. We enjoyed a buffet prepared by Stacy and there was plenty to eat. Plus some of my friends went up several times as the food was tasty! Most days apart - from Monday they do hot food till about 18:00 hrs ish. Excellent value especially as they are tummy filling sized portions and moreish. Steak and ale pie is my favourite! This pub is like a friendly local but within central Manchester. Always worth a visit. Also seems to be popular with Northern European visitors e.g. Norway especially when Man United or Man City play at home.

The Old Monkey is a pub on two floors with toilets in the basement. For some reason the building has not yet converted an area on the ground floor into an accessible toilet. The beers are kept well but are Holts or Bootleg only, with other breweries making an appearance every so often. The main draws of the place are the lively atmosphere and the low beer prices. Occasionally serves jacket potatoes and baguettes. Also does does super fancy looking spirit and mixers if you are a non-beer drinker.

Really good venue came for John Robertsons dark room and ended watching a full night of stand up. This is a small intimate venue and highly recommend coming for the comedy. They have a great selection of cask ales on. They did have a Xmas beer selling at £1.80 a pint bargain.

Typical Holt's pub in the city centre. Attracts travellers and regulars alike. I joined a friend for an afternoon of drinks in various real pubs with good ales. Instead of the over inflated prices in the trendy bars around town. The Old Monkey like many Holt's pubs have had to drag themselves into the 21st century to compete with the newer image portrayed in the trendier bars. Good food is a welcome addition to the better Holt's pubs and The Old Monkey is no exception. Friendly place often quiet during the day but a busy place in the evening. Not a regular visitor but a great place to meet and easy to find.
