Cosy bar with a few tables and some sofas. A vast selection of single malts as the name suggests, and a comprehensive cocktail selection. Keg beers. The acoustic night sessions on Tuesdays and Wednesdays typically have an unrivalled array of musical talent - though there's rightly a strict rule to keep quiet during performances.

Great bar, super vibe to the place and a great selection of whisky. Although they have a strange policy of demanding total utter silence when somebody is performing an 'open mic' spot. Well if like me you're unaware of said policy, being told to shush can cause offence....and it did!!

A cosy little bar tucked away in the Northern Quarter. The cheeseboard here was delicious, and I was a big fan of the salted caramel bourbon cocktail, too. Definitely looking to visit again in future.

Amazing place if you like whiskey - they have hundreds of single malts in a beatnik style place. Staff are great, really helpful with the whiskey and they'll warn you if they think the price might be a little high (one single malt was £16 a shot). Only downside is that on the weekends they play music that is far too loud to be able to talk, there's nowhere to dance and the only reason you are there is to enjoy whiskey and talk so I don't really get it.

I visited this bar in the Northern Quarter in Father's Day after having a stroll with my dad looking for somewhere to get a drink. Walking past it really seems to jump out to you because it resembles an old Victorian club. When you get in this impression is re-enforced with a lot of dark wood and green leather chairs. It doesn't look huge and I imagine it could get a little crowded at a busier time. The name really covers it - there were a lot of bottles of whiskey on display (the menus said over 400), all split in to the various regions, Scotch, Irish, bourbon and Japanese. It was great to just browse the menu and think about sampling the lot. In addition there seemed to be quite a few regular event's on as well as a happy hour every day at 7pm. I will definitely be going back for the comedy nights in a Sunday. I recommend going in for.

Popped in earlier this year for a beer & was transfixed by the bar staff who were making cocktails with such care & detail you'd think they were making Fabergé eggs... Even to point where they were stroking the edges of the glass with orange peel for taste! Great decor, very pleasant door staff & amazing Street art outside. There's a covered smoking area at the back, a basement space you can book & it's rammed at happy hour. Well worth a visit.

Good little bar with a laid back atmosphere and comfortable leather settees. Went on a Groupon deal for whisky tasters and cheese board but being bank holiday weekend they ran of the cheese. Offered a couple of alternatives which was fair enough. The girl at the bar who dealt with us was very good and gave great service. Will be popping back in the future for a relaxed evening for whisky or cocktails.

The music was was good and the decor was really cool, too. Me and a friend decided to get two drinks each in the happy hour and swap one so we each had a French Martini and a Strawberry Swizzle and both of them were so good! The bar staff were fun and bubbly and there was a really good atmosphere about the place. Wish they had more seating space, especially when it gets busier.

The drinks are amazing. The vibe is all wrong. Gonna sound a curmudgeon here but... The music they play is not to my taste but that wouldn't be too bad if the didn't insist on playing it so loud. A whiskey bar should have some class, decorum and sophistication which this place sadly lacks.

I had difficulty deciding between three or four stars on this one - almost everything bad was offset by something good. I'm not a whisk(e)y drinker but they do a fantastic cider for people like me. I've been twice now and on both occasions the food took absolutely ages to arrive. The second time was a quiet Sunday afternoon so I'm not sure why there was such a delay. However, with the possible exception of the minted mushy peas, the food was worth waiting for and bar staff were incredibly friendly, attentive, and apologetic. To this day I'm unsure what I ate when it eventually arrived as there was no information on the menu or board about what was in the generic "Northern meat pie". I was a little concerned about the fact that, delicious though it was, it didn't obviously taste of an identifiable meat of my knowledge. The food selection is limited but they all look good. Next time I may try the cheese & onion pie. Not amazing but with another visit.

If you're a whisky fan, you'll love it - it does what it says on the tin. There's a huge selection to choose from, and the bar staff know their stuff. The live performances are a bit hit and miss, but the fact that they exist add a lot to an already great bar. Just don't come for the beer selection - you'll be a bit disappointed!

Always a very nice vibe on the weekends with vinyl DJs playing fairly chilled music. The music can be turned up way too loud however which kind of clashes with the generally social atmosphere of the place. During our last visit we gave up our table because we couldn't hear each other. The whisky collection is really nice though and the staff are very knowledgeable. The cocktails are also really good.

A really nicely decorated bar, with great whiskey themed cocktails. They are a little pricey but the have a happy hour between 4 and 7pm, where you can get two cocktails for £10, which helps. The staff were friendly and helpful and was fairly busy, even at half five on a wednesday.

Excellent bar in the Northern Quarter a relatively short walk from Picadilly station. 2 for £10 cocktails is a bargain, stock up before 7pm on these. Cheese board is great, beware that one of these is more than big enough to share. Great decor, gets deservedly busy. Outstanding choice of whiskys unsurprisingly. Beers are decent too.

Great during the week as its not too busy. Vast selection of whiskeys from all over the world. Interesting whiskey-based cocktails. The music does not play too loud, so you can still have a good conversation. And sometimes there is live music downstairs! Downsides is that it's a bit pricey (no more than most in NQ) and gets much busier (and louder) at weekends.

As a purist i just wish staff were a little more knowledgeable on whisky, you can get lucky but a lot of the bar staff are understandibly just general bar staff who don't know a lagavulin from a jack Daniels. It's a great pub in the limit of the northern quarter, and probably the place with the best selection of whiskeys of the district. The staff is most helpful and does know quite a bit about Whiskey as well. Of course the drinks are expensive but you have to spend some money if you are looking for a different place to enjoy a damn good Whiskey.

Visited this nice intimate cosy bar last night as we had a voucher for 2 cocktails and a cheeseboard to share for £14. It was great value and had a good selection of delicious cheeses, crackers etc. The staff were very helpful and friendly and we'll definitely go back.

Wide selection of whiskeys, as you'd expect from the name. Attracts a diverse crowd of people, mostly trendy ones. Good prices and helpful staff. I'm a whiskey lover so I'm bound to like a specialist whiskey bar, but feel free to visit yourself if you're in the area. Not normally very busy but I normally go early evening so may be busier later on.

The Whiskey Jar has possibly the best atmosphere of the bars in Manchester. I initially visited in its opening week and loved the dark but warm atmosphere of a large bar crammed with syrupy browns and caramel combined with Chesterfield chairs and sofas and the smell of genuinely old hard wood. The whiskey selection is vast with hundreds to choose from so whether you’re after a Jack or a special Japanese whiskey, you’ll likely find it here. The prices aren’t cringey here but nor are they on the lower end, lest we forget that we sit on the very edge of the Northern Quarter. The snacks are exceptional and while you can get beers and wine, they are limited to bottled beer and a number of well chosen wines. Seek out The Whiskey Jar whether you’re a regular about town or visiting for the night.

It was supposed to start at 8pm.. however come 8:40 there was still nothing and with little room to move about the small bar we unfortunately decided to leave. Our drink order was amazing, and we were pre warned about how busy an open mic night would get - however we arrived at 7.30 to an already full bar, with no space, eagerly awaiting what we thought would be a night of great music. Sorely disappointed that we waited for nothing. Unless you're set on going on a Tuesday night, I would suggest going another night.

Probably one of my favourite Manchester sports for a drink. The cluebis in the title as to the type of drinks that they sell. But they have a large range of whisky (and yea they sell some nice beers email c too) Staff are knowledgeable, cocktail are in the £8 range but of high quality. Best thing about here is the atmosphere, it had a good mixed vibe with a good mix of people/ages etc. There is a busier bar section downstairs for the weekends.

As the name suggests this is the place for whiskey, or 'whisky' depending on where you're from, be sure to ask the bar staff about that one. It's a cool space inside and the cocktails we ordered were really nice, they also have an offer before 7pm of 2 for £9 which was a welcome treat. Bonus points for the inclusion of a piano - every bar like this should have a piano!

We've been twice to the Whiskey Jar now. My OH is a huge whiskey fan and it was up his street, although they did introduce me to a decent whiskey sour! For the non-whiskey types there is a selection of gins. Was fairly quiet mid-week, when we went on a Saturday it was rammed, but we managed to sit at the bar, which was comfy!

I first visited the whisky jar (note the correct spelling:)) just after it opened and it had a reasonable selection of whisky with staff who had a good understanding of the water of life, in a nice environment with a regrettable choice of music and most people were drinking beer - it was just OK. I went back last week, the decor remains the same with wonderfully comfortable chesterfields, the music selection is still dire (granted I wouldn't be happy unless it was the Diogenes club), everyone was still drinking beer but the whisky selection has expanded and expanded (and I have been promised a greater selection of speysides) and the staff really know their stuff!

Hundreds of whiskys, a staff that knows what you might like according to your tastes and can suggest interesting new stuff to try ! Excellent coktails, most of them being their own adaptation of an existing one, either with whisky (Blackberries Mojito) or a slight variation (French martiny with raspberry liquor). The atmosphere is also nice and they often have little bands playing.

As you might guess from the name - they do whiskey. Or whisky. Depends on your preference. They also do a good and changing selection of craft beers too. The staff are knowledgeable and if you are dipping your toes into the world of uisge beatha, whiskey, sourmash, bourbon or whatever they will recommend what you might like to try. Fantasic decor in an old mill, with two bar areas. Only thing that turns it off for me is that the music sometimes is just too loud and makes it hard to talk.

Our experience was amazing thanks to James we had the groupon cheese and whisky flight.. there was nothing James didn't know about his whiskys what a smashing bloke... Shame we couldn't say the same about the young woman working along side James a supervisor by all accounts who is shortly moving to Scotland.... A very rude lady we thanked her for our cheese board and got the thumbs up and when you smiled at her she looked straight through you ...Thank goodness for James and hope she is happier in Scotland. ....
