Reviews of Black Horse Gt Lindford

Nice gastro pub in the old part of Milton Keynes. All the servers we had were so friendly, drinks where poured quickly and checked on frequently.
Food was very nice and portioned correctly to its cost. Drinks prices where also reasonable and don't miss on having the sticky toffee pudding.
Outside the road sign needs a brighter light. It's hard to see at night the entrance to this lovely spot.

Splendid evening out along the canal, with excellent food and delightful service. We tried a number of starters (the tomato and basil soup, duck parfait, prawns and the scallops) and one main: the fish cakes. All were equally tasty and the wine nicely paired with our food. Price and quality ratio was good. It was a balmy summer's evening so the canal location was perfect!
M. S.
What a wonderful dining experience! Thank you Ellie for your warm welcome and Sharon for your delicious suggestion! It was so so delicious, lovely atmosphere and perfect service xxx

Lovely pub good beer. Would be 5 stars but you have to order through a website and it did offer Google pay and instead wanted me to add my card details. I mean who carries their card or knows these off by heart 🤷🏻♂️

Went for lunch with my family. We had roast dinner, food was nice and had lots of flavour. Desert was good . Service was very good. Loved the view to the canal although we sat inside as the weather wasn't very nice today.

My partner and I went for dinner at the Black Horse last night. It was our first meal out since January and I am so glad that we chose to go here, it felt like such a luxury. From the moment we got there we couldn't fault a thing. The atmosphere was great and the staff were welcoming. Our waitresses for the night, Julie and Vicky just made the experience even more enjoyable for us. They were attentive, friendly, knowledgeable and really added to our experience.
As for the food, it was the best meal we've had and everything about it was just exceptional.
I had the breaded brie to start and couldn't get enough of it. The chutney that the brie came with complimented it do well.
I had a fillet steak for main with beef dripping sauce. The steak was cooked perfectly with a great char on the outside, soft and tender in the middle and full of flavour. The sauce was so rich and flavoursome, it went so well with everything on the plate.
To finish I had sticky toffee pudding with custard. Again, it was faultless. It was rich and sweet but not too sickly.
I have already recommended this place to family and friends since last night and will continue to do so. We will be back soon!
Thankyou for making our night so memorable and enjoyable! And from one chef to another, compliments to the chef! 👌
A. B.
Great pub with incredible food. If the weather is good it's lovely to sit out by the canal. Definitely get the cauliflower cheese to accompany the roast 😍
M. M.
Nice sunday roast! 1 star deducted, Aperol Spritz not that great, extra dose of sparkling water is making it bigger, however, also weaker
c. b.
Food was amazing, Vicky our waitress was brilliant and even sorted out happy birthday writing on the desert. Was a lovely birthday lunch. We will definitely be returning.
S. F.
Had a great experience here with both the food and the service! Really good quality home cooked food and attentive service from the staff that work here.
Although we didn't have a reservation we were very easily accommodated in the pub area, as the menu is the same irrespective of where you are sitting - which is a really good thing!
Pity it wasn't sunnier as the pub is situated right by the canal and has lots of outdoor seating to take advantage of really nice weather.
Would definitely recommend a visit here if you're looking for traditional home cooked food that is really good quality.

We booked here because my son has allergies (peanut and sesame) they also had a children's menu and vegan options for me. We were not disappointed, from the moment we arrived we felt safe and relaxed (not our usual experience when eating out). The area was given an extra clean for my son and we felt reassured that his meals were prepared safely. The food was delicious and the staff were friendly and really helpful

A fantastic canal side gastro pub with moorings for boaters. Spacious beer garden and terraces for outside seating. Good choice of beers and the food was excellent! Waitresses Julie and Sandy were very friendly and attentive. I would highly recommend a visit to this pub. Online booking was fast and easy.
H. W.
We were a large party of 15 celebrating 2 birthdays. We were given a perfect space with an extra table for our cakes. Julie was a brilliant host attending to our every need, so too were the other staff. The food was served promptly and it was all delicious. Very welcoming, attentive and efficient. We had a lovely time and are already planning our next visit.
M. R.
I took my disabled mum out for lunch. On arrival, we was greeted by a very friendly man who made sure we were seated at a table accessible for my mum.
Kim took our order and couldn’t do enough for us. She was very friendly and made our visit even more enjoyable.
Food was cooked to perfection and was definitely worth the visits.
Would definitely come back again.
A. K.
An enjoyable evening spent on the deck in the last of the sunshine. Our server was friendly and super helpful, the food was lovely and prices reasonable.
C. C.
The food and service was brilliant. I ordered Scallops as a starter and Sea Bass for the Main.
The scallops were cooked perfectly and accompanied well, the balance of flavours on the plate were heartwarming.
The Sea Bass was slightly too crispy but not enough to spoil the meal, the combination of the meal really delivered.
Table service was great also, never waited too long and the staff were very friendly and helpful even with an awkward request.
Would highly recommend.

Good reviews, decided to break our canal trip Sat late lunch. Arrived and went to the bar. Hadn't booked but plenty of tables especially outside where we wanted. Polite but hardly friendly welcome. Told it was table service, given a menu and sit where we wanted and someone would come and get our order. 15 mins later still no-one had come though plenty of staff were coming and going so one of us went in. This time told we had to order on line! Drink and food was fine when it arrived and these staff friendly.
Ordering on line fine a lot of the time but doesn't work at the higher end which this place seems to be pitching at. As for the start, if we'd been in a car we'd have left. Disappointed as we'd passed several other good looking pubs to get there
D. A.
Wonderful food, great service. Lovely birthday treat.

We have just had an early Christmas party as a family member is going overseas. We didn't want to cook and so approached the Black Horse about a takeaway roast. We found out that they would be able to provide a three course festive menu for takeaway and so we ordered. When we came to collect the food, it was all ready, very organised and packaged well. They even provided crackers which we hadn't expected and helped us get it all into the car. The food was absolutely amazing, everyone was really pleased. Julie was great during ordering, payment etc and I would highly recommend ordering from here. Delicious food and amazing service 10/10!!!
s. m.
The food was excellent, atmosphere cosy and staff, friendly. I felt that drinks took a long time to arrive once ordered on each occasion but the place didn't appear to be too busy. Once I was given the bill, the waiter should have let me pay rather that disappearing and me having to find him. Overall though, a lovely evening.
M. S.
Great food, Great service. Eat in or out on the deck next to the canal. A really nice venue. Would recommend to anyone!
A. G.
Our waitress, Julie was fantastic! Great personality and excellent service. The best we’ve seen for a long time. Julie made our family feel very welcome and looked after 😊 food was fab too and all in good time.
J. W.
Amazing experience- Perfect all round.
My family and I stopped here for the afternoon to grab a beer and ended up staying all evening! We had a wonderful time. The three ladies who were serving, Julie, Bex and Sharon, were brilliant! So warm, welcoming and excellent at their jobs. They were super attentive, fun to chat to and made sure everything was perfect all evening, even when the place got extremely busy. The menu was great, really nice options. All of the appetizers were on point, sticky chicken, scallops, halloumi fries, king prawns... all delicious. I had the pork belly as a main and they even gave us extra crackling so my husband could steal some You really can’t go wrong with anything you order there, but my recommendations would be the scallops, the squid, the pork belly and the billionaires bar for dessert. Lovely atmosphere, we sat outside on the deck by the canal, but they have a lovely building and nice seating inside too.
D. C.
A really enjoyable evening - the atmosphere is wonderful, as we sat indoors dining under the beams. The food was exquisite; the starters (halloumi fries, scallops) were expertly prepared, the mains (pork belly) were delicious and perfectly portioned. The wait staff were friendly, polite and approachable, and warranted a comfortable tip.
You will not be disappointed by a visit here!
I. M.
Being in England for a business trip, I’ve been hosted in this risto-pub for a social diner. Remarkable care for every details and clients. Dishes are tasty and uncommon, matching flavors apparently not so similar one to the other. I would not define the food quantity XL … at least for a large size eater as myself.
A. I.
Been here before a few times but this occasion was a family meal for daughters 21st birthday. We'd booked outside on the terrace overlooking the canal but it was a bit chilly so we went inside. Staff lovely, food selection had something for everyone (fussy 15 year old to equally fussy 80 year olds), helped by the gently sardonic but good humoured waiter. Its not haute cuisine, but good, well cooked, sensibly priced pub food. Daughter had been wanting to come to the Black Horse for some time and she wasn't disappointed. We will be back.
L. S.
a lovely welcome and showed to our seats, given time to look at wine menu and food menu without feeling rush, lovely atmosphere music in background but quiet enough that we could enjoy conversation. great selection of food, the food was tasty, and we both enjoyed. staff very pleasant
N. G.
My husband and I visited here for the first time today for Sunday lunch. An amazing experience from our server Kim to the food. Can not fault this amazing gastro pub. We have booked for Christmas Dinner as a result if the amazing service and food.
Highly recommend
L. M.
Me and my girlfriend came for cocktails for a birthday treat and our host was jazz and she was amazing very accommodating with a birthday song and candle for her dessert and an amazing recommendation for the billionaires bar highly recommend. We were also pleasantly surprised by a duck at our table which jazz gave us bread to feed it and made out experience very unique would highly recommend coming here.
M. A.
I went here on Saturday 19th November with my wife and two children. We had a really lovely lunch, the menu choices were really great. Shared the piggy sharer, which was really tasty and a good selection of pork items and nice condiments. The mains were very good, the children loved their burger and pizza. The lambs rump was nicely cooked and with a good jus. The half roasted chicken was good as well. The chips were very nice.
Julie who looked after us was so lovely and really made us feel welcome. She and Aaron worked so well and efficiently.
The choice of alcohol free drinks are great, which is really nice to see.
Looking forward to visiting again.
D. L.
the staff were amazing! since Covid it's very rare to be looked after by such knowledgeable and clearly well trained staff and it makes SUCH a different to the experience
Food was outstanding
we have already recommended the Black Horse to our friends and family
C. a. J.
Found this pub when we moved to the area and our first visit was exceptional. From the fast attentive staff (Kim and others) to the perfectly presented, amazing food and canal side seating. We will be visiting again. This is how it should be done. Thanks to all the staff.
K.
Nice place, really nice staff and so welcoming. Was nice to bring my dog inside while we had lunch. But will not be having food here again. Just dripping in oil, thought usa might invade there was so much oil. Big let down. Maybe drain off the oil before serving it.
M. C.
Great atmosphere, delicious food, nice staff, beautiful surroundings.
P. B.
Such a beautiful place so relaxing, amazing food and the staff are so friendly
J. C.
Lovely pub, situated next to the canal. Staff were very friendly, especially our server Julie, very attentive and helpful. Food was lovely and fresh, will definitely be back.
M. W.
When we arrived we were welcomed by julie & sandy. Straight away we were allocated a table and drinks order taken.
Our food order was taken within ten minutes of the arrival of our drinks.
The food/desert was delicious. Nothing was too much trouble.
D. D.
Excellent lunch yesterday, well looked after by Sandy.
C. D.
Vegetarian lunch option sounded great but lacked flavour and texture was stodgy. Sea bass served dry and hard. Altogether a disappointing experience gastronomically for the main course. Environs lovely though and service was excellent.
R. D.
Great place to dine, with plenty of space inside and out. Service great, food and plating excellent. A little high on price, but worth the extra for a good meal.
Opted for the sea bass (photo didn't save).
If you like your IPA, try the Mad Squirrel.
Highly recommended.
C. S.
The food was delicious (as always). Staff are friendly and helpful..... particularly our server (who was either Katie or Libetie? Vibetie?)...who overheard me wish my stepmum a happy birthday and brought her desert decorated with a candle and 'happy birthday' written on the plate in chocolate sauce. Such a lovely, unexpected touch. My stepmum was chuffed to bits! Thank you so much.

Setting-wise this pub is lovely - right on the canal with lots of brilliant places to take a walk right next door. If you’re coming from further afield there’s a massive car park, and with loads of outdoor space and seating it’s great for spending a few hours at during the summer months. It’s a lot larger inside than you’d think but most of the areas are dedicated to dining - the bar area is quite small and quickly gets packed out with nowhere to sit or even stand.
We’d reserved a table which, for four people, was a good size and laid well. There’s enough space between the tables to not feel cramped and being located opposite the open fire was lovely. The waiting staff were friendly and welcoming throughout the visit.
The fact they’d run out of scallops meant that we opted for the oven baked king prawns and lobster to start. This wasn’t what we expected but was very delicious, coming complete with bread and the prawns shelled. The roast options available on the Sunday were really good value for the portion size and come with unlimited gravy. Unfortunately the prime beef burger was less impressive and although perfectly edible was very unexciting, feeling rather expensive for what it was. Sides of sauces were brought in small pots when requested. Desert lovers should be happy as there was a lot of choice of the menu, probably the most I’ve seen in a pub like this.
Overall it’s a nice place and a quality setting. It’s far from the cheapest option but for something more special, especially as part of a day out in the area, it’s good and I’m sure I’ll be returning.
G. b.
Great friendly staff, but menu is getting tired, and formulaic of a "gastropub" chain so its pricey small portions. Nice view on the canal tho when its decent weather.
M. M.
Had such a lovely experience, as always, when taking friends out!!! Service is always so friendly and professional and the food is exquisite. My biggest compliments to the kitchen staff!!
Overall, 10/10 place, Would fully recommend!!
J. B.
Had a fantastic meal here, really tasty, presented very well. Service was quick too and staff were friendly as well. Hadn't been before and not from the area, but would go here again definitely. 5 stars. Pictures are Pork Belly and Pigs Cheek, Lobster & Crab Fishcakes and a Dirty Burger.
M. S.
A little hidden gem in milton keynes, great atmosphere delicious food and most of all our waitresses were absolutely lovely! Couldn't do enough for you so thank you Kim and Georgia for making our experience extra special 5⭐
S.
Excellent food and lovely choice of dishes. Second time we have been in a few months and both times brilliant service, lovely staff and very nice atmosphere.
M. B.
Very nice food good service a shame they don't do a lighter lunch at weekends. But overall very nice. Lovely surroundings.
F. R.
Very nice experience. Very good service nice ambiance with fireplace. We ordered mild cider, sweet potatoes fries, fried halloumi, salmon with spinach, Samphire, broccoli and tomatoes everything was delicious. Very nice outside seating for nicer days
p. m.
The food is very good , served by 6 different people, all very pleasant, only my second visit, and will be calling in again in the near future, well done all
T. D.
Fantastic food, great location. Can get a bit rowdy but definitely a place we'll be going back to
S. B.
Great place, Great food. Today was served by Julie who was fantastic. Previously served by Sam, who was also amazing.
J. R.
Amazing food that was filling, delicious and for a good price. Great service by Julie and Kim. Highly recommended the pork belly 👌
K. L.
Brilliant food and fantastic service. We were served buy I believe Kim( sorry if that's wrong) and she was absolutely fantastic. Nothing was to much trouble, she was funny and very polite. Definitely recommend and will be back again soon.
D. C.
The Black Horse is a lovely venue with a truly pleasant ambience. Our waitress Julie (Amdrews) was a delight. Our meals were excellent and very tasty and served in a timely fashion. My only suggestion (as a vegetarian) would be to include a few more vegetarian main meals.
G. M.
Went for a family lunch and the food was delicious! we all ordered something different and everyone was happy. Our waitress Jasmine was lovely and very attentive. Thank you
I. P.
We love coming here for Sunday lunch, on this occasion we decided to sit outside and had a booth near the canal, we were served quickly as always and when we ordered Sunday lunch it arrived almost instantly, cooked to perfection!, On a lovely sunny Sunday we had the most amazing afternoon with great service.
We will come again and again it’s our favourite place to eat on a Sunday.
S. K.
Have always been a great spot for us. The food is amazing loved their seabass with watermelon but do not recomend the choclate bomb it was just okayish.
The service is great.
N. S.
Excellent location alongside canal, with plenty of parking, lots of outdoor seating on grass and decking. Great staff and menu. Birthday lunch for seven was perfect, efficient but not rushed, with very well cooked and presented dishes, plus refreshing drinks. I managed fine with a walking stick, but some might find the grounds and numerous flights of steps a slight challenge.
C.
Great food, bit expensive but worth it. The staff are fantastic and really friendly. I had the crumble for dessert didn't have loads of flavour, it was the only thing that wasn't 5 out of 5 for me but the rest of the food was amazing!
C. L.
Excellent meal. Food was exceptional. Lovely views across the canal. We were sat upstairs.
S. S.
Such a lovely waitress who took really, believe her name is Guinea or Guinney.
Made us feel special and was so charming, a credit to you all
Looking forward to coming back soon.
A. C.
Beautiful country pub. It is big but very cosy because while space is divided for smaller rooms. I would advice to book it earlier as it can be very busy. Fantastic location adds a value and outdoor settings are great as well. I was happy with a service, cleanliness of this place and a food however I would be totally satisfied if my food will be piping hot, unfortunately it wasn't so there is a room for improvement. Overall enjoyable experience. I'll try another day for sure. If you reserve a time for a full day you can have a lunch here, go for a long walk nearby and come back for a desert.
S. L.
Really tasty food and great service. Slightly over priced for the size of meal.
L. M.
The service was brilliant, Jaz was very friendly and attentive! The food was delivered very quickly, it was hot and tasted lovely! The desserts were also fantastic!
L. B.
Lovely place to visit for a meal and the scenery. We walked the canal beforehand and then had lunch. Staff were friendly to us and my dog. We sat outside in the garden
D. b.
Lovely decking by the canal both meals were perfect will definately be back ... Felt safe and well distanced was a lovely feeling after lock down
S. A.
Very nice place, both outside as it's circondated by greenery, or inside, where is privat and cosy. Food is great, but I'll give 7* to the brownie dessert, I've never eaten such a great brownie, is perfect and delicious! Thank you
I. K.
Amazing ambience. DELICIOUS food! You can actually walk right in from the path by the canal. Highly highly recommend.
J. J.
Great service by the lady behind the bar i think her name was Vicky, Sharon been amazing and very bubbly and friendly great staff and welcoming also Sandy very attractive young lady. Better then other chain mitchell and butlers.
D. R.
Very good food . Impressed with a separate vegan menu on top of a wide selection of food. Service very good . Even decorated my mother's dessert as it was her birthday !
D. L.
Lovely pub by the river, dog friendly although not allowed on terrace beside river, only in grass areas to the front. But I suggest you eat and drink then walk down the path to the water.
A. M.
We booked a table to be sure we would get one and glad we did as they were busy. Food was delicious and the service was great and friendly. I had the salmon tacos for starters which were delicious and refreshing and the sticky chicken (pictured) for a main. The food was hot and cooked beautifully. Very reasonably priced and a nice atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this as a place to eat.
S. W.
Service was efficient , Young girl server was friendly and personable ,
Somerset brie and chicken pie was too dry , although tasty with not enough vegetables!
M.
Very olde worlde feel to the pub, with views of the canal, which was nice.
Food was lovely (6 of us all enjoyed it) though some mains served, were a little on the small size for the prices..the dessert portion of Chocolate Brownie was huge (and gluten free) very tasty but a little rich, really could have done with a touch bigger scoop of ice-cream to balance it out. Allergens list available (when asked for), but a tad too long winded having to go through everything yourself and also a bit limited..more staff knowledge would be helpful.. On that basis - I dropped a star for portion sizes and ease of choosing gluten free options. Overall consensus - Food looked and tasted great, ingredients were fresh and all meals were cooked to perfection. Would definitely come back again for lunch or dinner.
J. N.
Absolutely amazing food. Fantastic, friendly staff. Huge amount of outdoor dog friendly tables.
G. P.
Lovely restaurant placed with natural greenery & beside the water flow. Easily locate near to highway. Food is really nice. Good to visit with family, friends & colleagues.
M. K.
Food is great and nice environment but service can be a little slow at times. Still would happily recommend as worth a visit and beautiful surroundings
J. M.
Very friendly polite staff, Julie, who was very attentive to us. The cocktails packed a punch and the sharer boards were pretty good too!
C. K.
What a lovely venue, friendly, efficient staff and the most delicious meal.
t. m. d.
Food and atmosphere was great. As a larger group we were all squished around a table which took 30 minutes of arguing before the staff agreed to provide a suitable number of tables for our party size. Manager's customer service was extremely disappointing (considering we booked 3 months ago) however once resolved we really enjoyed our night here.
J. S.
Had Sunday lunch today, roast beef and chicken. Very well cooked and the vegetables and gravy and Yorkshire puddings were brilliant too. Nice relaxed atmosphere. The service provided by Aaron was attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely be back as we noted a comprehensive vegan menu that will suit other family members. Thank you.
J. G.
Took out family here as its highly recommended. Food was just wonderful and really hit the spot. There was something for everyone in the group. Mother in law said her Festive Turkey Dinner was way better than meals she's out on Christmas day and paid a fortune for. My father in law loved the Christmas pudding and if he'd had space he would have definitely had second helpings. Everyone was very satisfied and some of us had to undo pants buttons towards the end. Our lovely waitress Danielle was very attentive and made sure we had everything we needed. Will definitely be returning.
C. P.
Excellent food and great service, staff are very friendly and welcoming
G. W.
Great food and service every time! Also great with dogs too 😊
Highly recommended for all the family.
C. M.
Went for a family meal so a large party of 10+ and we were served by Jazz who couldn’t do enough for us. There were 3 babies in our party and she gave them all so much attention while still taking our food and drinks orders without a hitch. Nothing was too much trouble. The food was great but the service is the reason we will be back without a doubt! Absolute asset to the business.
N. B.
Lovely food, friendly staff, good atmosphere
I.
Lovely place especially in the sun. Sitting on the terrace overlooking the canal 👌🏾
Food was great, served hot and in good time. But best experience was front of house Kim. She professionally dealt with our allergens and made us aware of cross contamination of foods perfectly well. An asset to the business. Will dine again
M. M.
Waitress was lovely and attentive, no worries there. Unfortunately the beer was flat and the "bottomless gravy" was miserly.
Nice enough food and surroundings.
K. M.
A perfect Sunday lunch!
The staff were friendly & informative with the adapted way of dining due to new covid rules. The atmosphere was relaxed & inviting & would highly recommend if you wish to eat out like the good old days.
The first place since lockdown to get a perfect balance of keeping people safe whilst allowing you to relax in peace. Thank you Black horse, we’ll be back! 😎
E. L. R.
We had a magical evening sitting on the terrace by the canal having a meal out with my very handsome husband. The food was delicious served promptly. The staff were attentive, curtious, helpful and welcoming.
A. W.
Staff at The Black Horse were extremely helpful and friendly. We turned up with a gentleman in a wheelchair and they couldn't have been more helpful if they tried. Food brilliant. This was our second visit this year. Will certainly be back.
M. N.
Wrong food came out first time then my husband had eaten his lunch when my second lunch came I was not happy with this either. But normally the food and service is good here think that it was just a bad day rather than slating a place for two mistakes.
J. H.
The staff are always courteous and welcoming, the location by the canal is lovely, the menu varied, the premises very pleasant, car parking great, value good.
L.
Really lovely pub/restaurant. A good place to meet up with friends for drinks or a meal. Great menu, quick and friendly service. Awesome ambiance. I definitely recommend.
M. x.
Lovely vegan food, and a surprise dessert (in a good way!). Great service, very friendly.
P. W.
Great experience as usual, friendly, helpful and attentive staff. Always a pleasure to visit.
M. B.
Excellent food, slight error with the drinks, but overall a good experience.
B. K.
Julie was brilliant in our work team dinner outing. We will be back again very soon. Thank you Julie!
J. W.
Nice pub but service was quite poor. Good food but poor Gluten free selection
T. A.
From start to finish the service was excellent. Spoke to many staff on various occasions prior, as it was a special celebration meal for my elderly parents.
The food was delicious, the service was outstanding and we were met with a friendly smile by all staff who could not do enough for us. Special thanks to our wonderful host Aaron who was there for our every need. Thank you
S. S.
Great place. Good food, lovely building and grounds along with friendly and faultless service.
G. C.
Welcoming and busy. It was Boxing day. Nice table with excellent friendly service. The food was good & reasonably priced. It was an enjoyable occasion and I wouldn't hesitate to go there again.
A. G.
Amazing food, service, atmosphere and seating outside with lovely views of the canal and boats. Worth visiting!
R. O.
Lovely meal for 3 of us. All dishes (and drinks) arrived promptly and the food was hot and tasty. The new menu looked good and we were excellently looked after by Julie, our pleasant and cheerful waitress. Will definitely be visiting again. Thank you.
S. H.
Food was really delicious, service was excellent. Will definitely return.
C. M.
Great service, lovely food.
Would definitely recommend it.
J.
Great food very kind service - Julie was great thanks for the great night out.
A. C.
Very well organised, good service, good menu, great food. Highly recommended
L. V.
Booked the private room to host a baby shower, the pub itself was very clean and there was an excellent choice for their menu.
We booked for 13, however on arrival there were 4 tables all separated so we had to move the tables on our own so that we could all sit together. The new seating plan was much better and better suited with still plenty of space to move around.
The food arrived fairly quickly and staff were friendly.
P. C.
Friendly staff. Lack of a good Rosè at a reasonable price. No one should sellZinfandel or have to pay £10.85 for a glass of French rosè. There are plenty of midlevel
Spanish or French rosès. Pinot Grigio is in the same bracket as Zinfandel - lowest common denominator.
A. L.
Visited this pub last Sunday, 6 adults and a baby. We were welcomed and looked after by Kim who gave excellent service, friendly and quick. The food was excellent... the roast dinner was superb and a good choice of desserts. Plus a lovely setting near canal. Will definitely visit again 🙂

Fantastic food and service. Had the Sunday roast which was spectacular in terms of quality and quantity - have always had such good service with a smile here as well, staff are wonderful. In particular Kim, who looked after us brilliantly yesterday.

We decided to have a trip to buckinghamshire today, We had a nice ride over to the pub as it was a lovely sunny day, When we arrived there was a very warm reception, a nice lady showed us to our table, We were given a few minutes to settle in, We were then greeted by a nice member of staff which took our drinks order then promptly delivered them, we then were given roughly 10 minutes before we were visited again for our starters & main meal choices which came quickly and everything was delicous, we both had the potato&leek soup which was delicous and tasted of both vegetables perfectly, we then had the trio roasts which were exquisite in every flavour, the crackling was spot on with the perfect crunch and salty flavour, then it was time for the next question any desserts? Which we answered please can we see the dessert menu? The menu's came which we keenly read I can recommend the Apple&Damson Crumble with ice cream and custard it was fabulous. If you are looking for an excellent place to dine with first class staff, quality of food then the Black Horse is the place!

Stopped here as we were passing by. So glad we did. Great food, very friendly attentive staff, lovely atmosphere. Would definitely visit again if in the area.
S. C.
Unfortunately the meal size was small especially for the price paid and it took around 30 mins to settle the bill. Atmosphere was generally nice though.
C. R.
Homely surroundings, good food and above all friendly and attentive service.
J. C.
Great service. Got the lunch set menu, which was worth its value. Got the mezze flatbread which was crispy and had lots of topping. Beware of onion breath! Lots of picked and raw red onions.
R. B.
Lovely setting and food. Really like it here.
P. B.
Went for dinner with good friends, as usual lovely food and great friendly service.
S. S.
Great menu, good service, nice ambiance and the did was delicious.

Just had a lovely meal for our Anniversary, food was amazing, loved my starter that much i had it for dessert too.
Our waitress was lovely and the lady behind the bar also lovely. So friendly and welcoming. Thank you xx
P. P.
The pub is well situated for pleasant walks. The staff are friendly. The food and drink were of reasonable quality, though possibly over priced.
J. S.
A lovely evening and Martin who was one of the staff was very attentive all evening 😀 food was great also 😀
D. R.
Excellent choice of food and drink. Good waiting staff. Very professional. Will be back.

Had a fantastic Sunday roast today at the Black Horse with our friends. Food was wonderful, the trio of roasts is to die for. The chocolate brownie was also very decedent. Our compliments to the chefs. Martin our waiter was sublime, gave us fabulous service. Very attentive and fun.
L. C.
We had a fabulous Sunday lunch at The Black Horse with our friends. The food was amazing. A special shout out to our server Martin who really looked after us. He made sure our meals were dairy free and he was friendly and efficient. Thank you we will definitely be back again.
L. U.
A great choice of menu...always cooked and served excellently... good prices for lunchtime snacks as well as a good evening menu..tables and surrounds are very clean and the restaurant has an enjoyable atmosphere. Staff are always helpful and smiley.
M. B.
Very kind and friendly staff although food was not worth the price. Not much flavour to it and presentation could be better (even to dress it up with colourful salad would make a difference). I didn't leave hungry but I appreciate good food experience and food here was just ok. I'm not coming back to try other positions from menu.
B. A.
Not sure what was wrong with the staff on the recent occasion we went, they just seem all a bit grumpy. Food was above average, however certain items from the Sunday roast pork belly option were missing, and we were not informed about this, until after the food was placed on the table. So this is reflected in the score, but more sadly the chances of us returning soon have reduced.
D. L.
Excellent service, lovely food and very friendly staff. My wife couldn't finish her cheese board so our lovely waitress put it in a box for her! Fantastic place, thoroughly recommended.
R. M.
I've been to the black horse a lot of times now. Always had a lovely experience. Food has been great, great selection of drinks. Service is always very quick and friendly. Great outdoor area's for a Covid friendly pint. They provide QR code ordering from your phone. Prices are reasonable for the quality. Will definitely keep going here.
D. H.
Gorgeous, safe spaces. We were on the decking area which has smart, comfortable, spacious booth-type areas with transparent rooves. There are also tables on the large grassy area near the car park. Staff were friendly and patient. Menu was more extensive than I was expecting. I had roast beef (Sundays), my husband had an authentic-looking pizza, brother had veg nourish bowl and sister-in-law fish and chips. All well presented and tasted good!
S. P.
The Black Horse has a fantastic location, but I've knocked a star off because of the slightly steep prices.
The pub itself has plenty of character and is an absolute delight to visit and winner around. I have no idea the age of the building but it certainly stands out amidst Milton Keynes' newer builds. It's not just the building that is great, the location is also. It is situated right on the canal, weather permitting, you can enjoy the seating area metres away from passing narrow boats.
There is often a good selection of beers on tap. I can't comment on wines and other drinks.
Food is nice, but not quite deserving of the price tag. The food is enjoyable, but I've eaten better locally for the same/less money.
While food is good, but not great, the staff and service is excellent!
Ultimately you're paying for the location here (and service), which is excellent. If it's a sunny hot day there isn't much better in MK. But if you're after the best gastro pub meal in MK I'd look elsewhere.
Post Covid there is no longer bar service, and the pub operates table service only. In principle I'm not a fan of this restricted operating model, but it's made entirely barrable by the fantastic staff.
O. K.
Normally have to book for a Sunday, but I slipped into a bar seat for a pint and some halloumi chips after a lovely run along the canal. Beautiful interiors still looking good, quick service, and the chips really hit the spot. Thanks!
C. C.
We went on a hot day and they asked if we wanted to move to a table upstairs with a view of the canal. Great food, good veggie/vegan options and the halloumi fries are amazing. Staff coped well considering how hot it was.
D. A.
7 stars All the staff were extremely helpful. They went over and above what I expected. I thoroughly recommend the Black Horse Great Linford for your night out.
D. R.
Had a really good time family and friends were there
Service was very good great location
T. N.
The pub has a really big car park. The staff are very friendly. The food was really nice and plenty to choose from. The food service was good and you didn’t have to wait too long for the food to be served.
M. D.
Beautiful pub. The food is absolutely delicious and fresh. Highly recommended.
R. F.
Lovely food and great staff- Vicky served us and was very helpful and friendly
S. F.
Food was incredible as always! I feel it is very fairly priced for what you get and our servers Layton and Kim were incredible; Layton had a good laugh with us and was always friendly and Kim seemed extremely sweet. Used to come here quite frequently before covid and now after going again on Tuesday I remember why it was a favourite!
M. G.
Lovely place. My first visit as in the area for business. Had the fish & chips. Batter very crispy just as I like it. Mashed pea puree was lovely. Great ambience and attentive staff. Thoroughly enjoyed my visit.
E. H.
The Black Horse is such a great place to eat and drink, we called in after our lovely walk, staff were great and food was excellent.
K. A.
Lovely restaurant with beautiful views of the river from the garden. Me and my family came here as the vegan menu looked great, however when we arrived we were disappointed to find out most of the vegan options had been taken of the menu and we only had one option which was a salad with falafel. This meal was very delicious but I would have preferred to have a choice. We also had a couple of cocktails these were presented very well and tasted really good. The staff were friendly and helpful.
C. T.
For both of us it has been several years since we last visited and were extremely impressed. The decor and atmosphere was lovely, but above all the food was magnificent. Despite it being just before Christmas it wasn't chaotic, and there was a much broader selection that your typical Christmas menu (and they had the usual menu available). With a selection of lovely wines, it made for a wonderful evening. Across the table we sampled a wide selection from excellent sea bass, to succulent steak, and rich and delicious desserts! We will definitely be heading back.
D. M.
This was not our first visit to the Black Horse, but again all the staff were very helpful and professional
We will be back again, especially for any special occasions
A. C.
The decor and styling is beautiful, with good food and friendly, efficient staff.
S. P. (.
Friendly atmosphere and great service. No issues with parking as there was plenty avaliable. Food is reasonably priced and great value.
S.
A fabulous lunch with fantastic staff especially Sandy . She was brilliant
A. M.
Lively decoration, nice atmosphere but the food is not good
G. B.
Wow! Amazing food, cozy building and lovely staff. The food is semi expensive but well worth the price you pay. If you are deciding which pub to have a nice meal in look no further!
S. R.
I celebrated my birthday in The Black Horse last night
What a fantastic experience!
The food was out of this world...everything was cooked to perfection and the presentation was bang on.
Our waitress (Sharon) couldn't do enough for us. She was amazing!
Thank you loads TEAM BLACK HORSE ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
R.
Great atmosphere and food, was lovely to catch up with friends, amazing outdoor area!
S. C.
Lovely food, great pub. Ideal location, lots of parking. Set back from enough from road to not hear it. Interesting layout over different levels. Well divided seating sections, e.g. in the garden, by the canal side balcony. Multi purpose pub, ideal for a drink with friends, a business meeting or romantic liaison. Would highly recommend. One of, if not the, best overall pub in MK.
B. K.
First time at this establishment, not too crowded, however I felt that the prices were somewhat excessive for what was offered. That apart, the food was good and waiting staff that served us were good. Ok for a special occasion, but not regular dining
R. J.
1st time here, had lovely company, and the food was very good, though one dish I really wanted was not available, will have to go back and hope they will have It next time 🙂 thank you to our server also, helpful young lad , will return and sit inside next time for fine dining . Keep it up
A. M.
A bit expensive and the service was slow, but the staff were really nice and the chips were really good! They have a lovely outdoor seating area too. Not a huge amount of choice on tab but more than local restaurants.
G. C.
Walked along the old railway line with a friend to the Black Horse for lunch. I thought she needed cheering up and the Black Horse delivered 😀 Sandra bought us the menus and we both chose the Chipotle Chilli Beef Fillet Salad. What a taste sensation, with a little bite. You might think salad but this was next level on flavour so would recommend it. Thank you Houston 😊
M. F.
Very pleasant location, good food, would highly recommend
M. C.
Very friendly and welcoming staff, amazing food, great atmosphere
K. R. S.
Meh. I like the place, the staff are polite etc and great little location. I have just never been enamoured with the prices. Over 40 quid for a lunch for 2. One beer, one coke a burger and a fish and chips. It strikes me as one of those places that thinks its a bit more upmarket than it is, its a pub. I can' fault it but I can't love it. Saying that I have had Xmas day dinner there twice now and I find it excellent. I dont want to bash it as I do go there from time to time it just shouldn't present itself as more than a pub that does pub grub IMO. Good Covid measures for those that currently wonder. Recommend when you have a few extra quid to splash on lunch and want a change of scenery.
M. F.
Great service but tried looking on website to see if we could just walk on for drink only. Could not find indo but met up there to start canal side walk with friends and turns out they set aside a few distanced table at bottom of garden area. Had we known we would not have bothered making flasks of coffee but all we could see on website was all tables are fully booked.
T. G.
Such a great place. The staff are amazing and the food is always lovely . Always my go to for quality .
D. W.
As always lovely food, great service plus it was scorchio! 😎
D. M.
So I've been a local here for nigh on 15 years, in fact I grew up playing in the beer garden. So I've seen this place change with the seasons, for good and bad. It's always been a great place for a drink and catch up. The new year's eve deals were pretty good, but the food very hit or miss. However, after today's visit I was proper made up: the place seems to have been shined up good. All the things that might once have put me off, have been tweaked. Service is quick and the staff are all great, the food is quality and the menu has a bit of character to it. All of that put together with all the charm and good bits from before. Good job folks, the Black Horse is a great shout again!
H. C.
First lunch at the Black Horse. Staff were great food was great.
Great experience.
Updated*
I work in Milton Keynes every couple of weeks and I go there every time as the view on the canal outside is perfect and peaceful.
J. S.
Lovely food, great service with very friendly Staff, but i did find the prices were slightly higher than other places who give slightly bigger portions.
I. R.
Food was nice & well presented. There were some unusual things on the menu too. Service was good.
C. H.
A good outdoor venue with plentiful lunchtime staff providing prompt friendly service. Odd thing was the type of beer on sale, No traditional draft beers except Guinness all the rest seem to be imported larger, so looks like a pub, acts like a pub, but not a pub: more of a Barbie place.
V. W.
I've always enjoyed visits to The Black Horse (5 to date)...Yesterday it was the venue of choice to meet up with my daughter for an early evening dinner on the first day of indoor eating post Lockdown. The staff seemed excited to be back undercover, bubbly, bright and cheerful.
The food was to the expected high standard, I had a rib eye and left no gristle behind.
It was good to be back, hope to return again in the not too distant
C. T.
Nice setting. Lots of outdoor seating. Limited indoor seating if you wish to take your dog inside. Nice range on the menu but it could do with being changed more frequently and/or addition of daily specials so I've probably reached the limit of my interest in this place after only three visits over the past year. The food is reasonably good but a bit pricey for what you get. My daughter had the belly pork which was a large portion but on the dry side. My fishcakes were nice but the salad accompaniment was very disappointing comprising mostly of raw kale and very little else. There's a good drinks menu... Lots of gin cocktails. The staff are really very nice and helpful.
T. D.
Great food lovely atmosphere. The team are always friendly and welcoming.
J. P.
Tasty food, generous portions. Lots of indoor and outdoor seating, including by the side of the canal. Spaces in the carpark can be quite tight if you are in a 4x4. Recommend booking for busier days.
A. T.
Genuinely one of the best meals out we have had in Milton Keynes for a long time. Food, staff and atmosphere all superb!
S. C.
This is a nice looking, upmarket dining pub with plenty of room and well laid out so it feels cozy. There are open fires and lots of outdoor tables for good weather.
We turned up for a early, walk-in lunch, being in Milton Keynes for some shopping during the morning. Welcome and service was very good at the woman who served us at our table was excellent.
The menu is pretty extensive but we went for simple choices and had three fairly light courses. A good range of beers and wines are available but I would suggest you be careful about ordering the house white wine, which was disgusting. My wife wondered if it had ever seen a grape! Her wine was changed immediately, with no fuss and we enjoyed the rest of our meal.
With dining pubs, you know food is probably pre-prepared but our choices tasted nice and we enjoyed them.
5 star service from the woman serving. Food good. Wine disappointing but new glass very good. Overall 4 stars.
A. S.
The pub is nice and has plenty of parking space. As you enter there is someone that greets you and takes you to your table. The serving was fast and the food was good.
P. C.
Despite being really busy on a sunny Saturday afternoon, we were served quickly and staff were calm and relaxed, helping us to feel relaxed, too.
Food was well presented and delicious!
Perhaps a bit pricey, but certainly quality.
Fillet of beef salad was amazing!
V. M.
It’s a shame I did not take photos this time. But since we are regulars here, I stopped doing that some time ago. We love the atmosphere here, the food and drink selection, and the service, as well. Worth going time and time again.
S. S.
We popped in for Friday afternoon drinks after a country walk. After we eventually opened the NHS track and trace app and checked in, we were shown to a table. Service was great as were our drinks. They make a great Old Fashioned, and we had some coffee too, as it was a chilly day. The refit is lovely, and I can't wait for them to light the fires, so I can cozy up for winter.
P. N.
My friend and I just had a fabulous lunch at The Black Horse, with exceptional service from Julie. Excellent food and the service from our arrival to the last drop of coffee was just great. Highly recommend this lovely bunch of people and the pub - in all weathers, inside with cosy fires in autumn and winter or up on the deck with the the longboats chugging along next to you, or in the lovely garden.
C. E.
What a gem. This place is actually bigger and better than it looks from the canal side. The meal was very tasty indeed. Best pub food we have had for a long time.
L. M.
Delicious vegetarian Sunday lunch, nice atmosphere and good service despite being very busy.
N. B.
Amazing food. Fantastic covid tracing protocols in place. Julie our server was friendly and great fun. One drawback was the IT for the brewery not sending us a discount code in time, that said an amazing meal and pub experience.
J. O.
Went for a meal last night, the table was booked, on arrival we were shown to our table which was very bright, asked the waitress Jaz if we could change to a softer lit one, she immediately found another table for us. Drinks ordered and served quickly, menus and wine list perused. Ordered lamb koftas served with a greek style salad plus should have had goats cheese, the koftas were 3 rather small meatballs served on skewers that tasted delicious after almost finishing the meal asked if everything was ok, pointed out that the goats cheese was omitted but the rest was lovely. Jaz said she would check with the kitchen, she came back and apologised stating they had run out of cheese. Main course ordered homemade Devon crab with prawn fish cakes served with a pea & truffle coloured and either salad or chips, choose salad. Large bowl of what can be described as pea soup with 2 fish cakes swimming in the bowl plus a separate bowl of spinach leaves with sparse amount of tomato and cucumber. Pointed out to Jaz on her return to the table that I hadn't expected a soup that could have been enough to make 4 servings rather a smaller amount so the fish cakes didn't become soggy and overwhelmed by the pea. Once again apologies given and offered to knock it off the bill, I explained that wasn't what I wanted to happen as was happy to pay for the meal, it was a constructive critic to to be given to the kitchen for future reference. Had a lovely bottle of the S.A. house rose wine. I would happily give it another try.
S. W.
Lovely pub/restaurant with very tasty food!
A. L.
Popped in here for a few drinks about half 12 after being on narrow boat. The setting is really amazing and the decor is beautiful. The drinks were good and the food menu you looked very tasty.all the outdoor area is also really good I would expect this place to be busy all the time. Prices are very reasonable. Will be coming back here again to try the food.
M. H.
Good service, but disappointing food for the price. Expensive but the duck was extremely dry and the burger was burnt to a crisp. The pub itself is lovely and the staff are great, but I'd hesitate to order food there again.
N. F.
Really lovely food, great drinks selection (cocktails make you spend too much) and the staff were really patient when my drink friends wouldn't leave until they finished their drinks!
P. C.
Good food but outdoors online menu was quite tricky and didn't look like like it was the full menu.
L. U.
Have visited several times for lunch and evening meals...Great menu...great location...food all cooked and served at a very high standard...staff always very helpful
P. C.
This pub/restaurant gets five stars. Excellent food, wonderful service and a very relaxed environment next to the canal. Covid management is superb, staff set very high standards. I had the squid, followed by fish cakes and my wife had Brie followed by lamb cutlets. Two bottles of house (The merlot is superb) and two cocktails came to £105. This is actually reasonably priced for the excellent quality. Toilets spotless. Staff fantastic I would advise booking. This can be done through the website.
D. G.
Been frequenting this pub for many moons. But I must say the service we received during this trying time was magnificent.
Y.
Friendly staff.
Nice food, pizza is one of the best in town.
Vegetarian options are poor though.
Mostly frequented by couples, so its got quite a romantic vibe, especially since its situated right next to the canal, in a scenic spot.
D. R.
The food was fantastic and the staff were very welcoming. Martin our server was very attentive and he made the evening even more enjoyable. We highly recommend the Black Horse and we will be going back very soon.
D. W.
The service was amazing and the food delicious.
C. H.
Visited recently for the first time in years. The pub still has its cozy charm and fireside seating but with a more polished decor. The food menu is excellent and the outside decking area next to the canal is great for cyclists or dog walkers popping in for refreshment. It can get busy but given its fairly remote location, this can only be taken as a sign of a great pub.
J. L.
This is a lovely pub with lots of outdoor space so perfect for the current Covid conditions. Very friendly and helpful staff and a nice menu. There's also the Grand Union Canal just beside it to walk off that Sunday Roast.... perfect
J. D.
Fantastic place, everything is great the pub is a beautiful old building which has been decorated well. The food is fantastic great Chefs here for food from light bites to a full on Sunday roast. There is plenty of space in the beer garden and even a beautiful outside restaurant area overlooking the canal for summertime drinking/eating. To round off everything the staff are very friendly and knowledgable of their menu and really helped out with the lady on the table next to us who was coeliac. Great location, will be returning.
M. T.
Have been here on a number occasions and the food is excellent every time. The service from the staff is very friendly and they have a good selection of drinks. Inside and out the pub is lovely place to be and would never hesitate to recommend to anyone.
P. P.
Good food , good service and a nice view of the canal . Will definitely go back
T. L.
Fabulous setting wonderful staff and delicious food
J. D.
We visited on a sunny Saturday afternoon (24/09) and sat on the canal side balcony. Our waitress was friendly and efficient both with our drinks and food.
My wife had the chicken dish with a salad and I had the haddock fish cakes with poached egg then pudding . All of our food was presented well and was hot and very tasty. I particularly enjoyed the fish cakes they were excellent and I will definitely be ordering them again!
All in all a pleasant and enjoyable experience.
C. W.
A wonderful, family friendly, eating experience. Great food and amazing service by probably the greatest waitress alive today Vicki, who could not have been more helpful, thank you!
M. J.
First visit, took my uncle for dinner to celebrate his 80th birthday. Got a table easy, great welcome, clean & tidy, great service & excellent food. Will visit again when in the area.
W. M.
Excellent serving staff, lovely vibrant atmosphere, good food, can't ask for much more.
J. A.
Lovely inside, great service, food well presented, one of the family had a duck pizza, seems they look outside the norm menu, prices represent a nice menu, selection and surround, not for a quick in and out cheap snack.
M. L.
This place is excellent. Plenty of indoor and outdoor space near the canal. Food was amazing and service was excellent. I'd have no hesitation in recommending The Black Horse to friends or family.
J. O.
Lovely pub / restaurant, wish it was my local. The food was great well made and well presented. The staff were friendly and attentive without being in your face. This place would get 5 stars with a little more attention to maintenance. Admittedly it's hard to keep on top of public areas in restaurants and bars, especially the lavatories, but it makes a difference to opinion. Now, they were clean in the obvious areas, toilets, sinks, mirrors, dryers, doors and handles. The smelt clean, which is why they maintained 4 stars, however, floor tiles,. especially in the corners were awful, and lower wall areas the same.
C. F.
Always a nice atmosphere and lovely food. So nice to walk the dog here and come in for a drink or a bit of food. Also really accomodating for larger groups or special occasions.
Only minor criticisms would be it would be really nice to see a menu that's updated a bit more often to suit the seasons or introduce some seasonal specials. Secondly although most of the staff are lovely and helpful recently a couple of the staff members have been a bit less than enthusiastic with the level of service.
S. D.
Amazing place, lots of character, with great food and friendly staff. I really recommend it for every occasion, from an official dinner to just having a pint with a friend. I had a few business dinners there over the past couple of months and everything was spot on, well done.
L. W.
Am on mailing list and the vegan menu looked to be worth a try, but this menu wasn't given to us as we were led to our table. Tasty, freshly cooked food. Table service could have been more attentive - needed to ask for sauces with our meals and get attention for extra drinks.
C. A.
Good atmosphere, good choice of food on menu, excellent food and exceptional service (thanks Jaz). Will definitely return if in the area again
T. J.
Fillet beef salad wasn't worth the money - not enough food to feed a child. Too much onion, not enough if everything else and and the coriander spoilt the whole dish. Not enough simple food for starters - too much fish as options. The female staff were all lovely- guy behind the bar was not a people person! However, the venue and grounds are great and we would go there again (will just choose something from the menu with a bit more substance)
S. M.
A beautiful ancient pub by the canal at Great Linford Milton Keynes. The Black Horse has a relaxed atmosphere and warm rustic charm. Serves amazing food and a wide selection of beers. The interior is surprisingly extensive and there seemed to be plenty of space to sit and enjoy a meal or just a quiet drink.
There's a large car park and 3 or 4 disabled parking bays closer to the entrance. An accessible toilet is available for use (the main toilets are up some narrow winding stairs). The accessible toilet also includes baby changing facilities.
Highly recommended.
G. H.
Good food which was complimented by outstanding service. In these challenging times for the food & drink industry it was refreshing to find table service of such quality. Aran, you should ask for & expect a pay rise!
J. “. g. H.
Not my scene service was brilliant friendly staff. I wouldn't recamend it for a family with young children. Lots of seating areas, and one on the towpath
P. B.
Fab place, food is really good!l The staff are lovely and provide a great service, i would go there again.
The only thing i would say is to make the chips side a bit bigger portion but don't let that stop you from going there.
E. G.
Lovely venue, plenty of parking, a leafy covered walkway leads from car park to the main entrance, within you arrive at the small initial bar area where you also check in for booking, table booking is available le on line. The secor throughput is really lively, low lighting, exposed beams , copper covered tables in the bar. There is extensive dining areas to the left and right of the bar, all beautifully decorated. As a bonus there is a roof top area for outdoor dining which is staffed during the good weather. The area is at the same height as the canal which is amazing, as you have a very intimate perspective of the canal and its inhabitants including the boats that pass you by. The food is really lovely, with a very refreshing selection of dishes on their menu. Staff are warm, friendly and genuinely happy in their work .
L. A.
Delicious food, fabulous service and a warm welcome every time we visit. Highly recommend the food and drinks
T. T.
The whole experience was great. We were visiting family that lived 2 hours away from us, so decided to go for lunch. We brought a dog with us. So I enquired over facebook message beforehand to see if there was anyway we could bring a dog. The response was quick and we were allowed in the bar area. So that was sorted. I booked a table direct from the website. On arrival we were given a smallish table, but it would have done. When a larger table became available we were asked if we wanted to move. We agreed and the person who moved us said not to worry he would move our drinks and cutlery. So that was good. My auntie knocked a fork on the floor. The waiter straight away said dont worry, I will grab you another one. So the service was spot on. Food was really nice. We all had different meals and all enjoyed them.
It was so nice to come to a restaurant and not be talking about any issues at the restaurant, rather than catching up with family we dont see very often. Plus it was nice to say after that the meal was lovely, it was a lovely pub and the staff were great. I really recommend this pub and the staff are a credit to you, so please ensure they know!!! Thank you
K. B.
Lovely pub with nice food!
A great setting with nice and friendly atmosphere. Well worth a visit.
I had the battered Halloumi being a vegetarian and the food was tasty and filling.
The lunch was made even better with complimentary parsnip crisps and paprika tortilla shards. A nice touch.
b. b.
Great rack of ribs with a really nice sauce, very well presented. Friends told me the cod and chips was good too.
K. P.
This used to be a really good pub however there’s a few things that have changed over the years. The dog friendly space is a lot smaller than it used to be. We have an adult Doberman, so if we bring her, it’s not rare that we have the space for her. If you have a smaller dog it’s fine. In recent visits, the service has been consistently slow.
The prices are fair and the staff are lovely, however comparing how it used to be (a 5* pub), I’m now a little disappointed as I can’t fit the whole family unit (including dog) in the pub and when we can, we wait ages to be served. It’s quicker and more convenient to drive elsewhere with the dog :(
I. M.
Good range of beers and wine. Busy atmosphere. I imagine it's nice outside in summer but I visited in winter but that did mean a lovely log fire was burning though. Large restaurant but we were only there for a drink so can't comment on food.
K. B.
Excellent food, service and value for money... and not forgetting the waitresses the sisters from North London (you know who you are lol) great evening had by all
C. F.
Lovely meal here last night. I forgot to check the bill before paying and today I wondered if I'd been overcharged (forgot to take receipt!). Rang them tonight to check... staff v helpful... listened to my concerns and kindly found the order and payment... I was wrong and bill was correct! Very polite staff who didn't make me feel daft! Lovely atmosphere and food. Highly recommended x
M. P.
Delicious food. Great service. Friendly staff. Worthy of five star rating. Thanks Julie for serving us so well.
B. S.
Great food and friendly staff, quick service lovely location.

Great. Lovely pub good service , good choice of food.

The Black Horse is a fantastic contemporary pub located near the canal. There is an abundance of indoor and outdoor seating and a large car park. There are choices to sit at the bar and have smaller menu or you can sit in the restaurant. On my visit with a friend we sat in the main resturaunt. Sadly, we missed the deals (set menu until 6pm and 2 cocktails for £12 before 7pm) so there are strict times but had a wonderful meal nonetheless. There is also a vegan menu option available. Service was good and enjoyed the atmosphere. Definitely worth a visit and be great on a beautiful sunny evening outside.

Nice environment, friendly staff, nice food

Lovely restaurant with greenery view of canal and countryside. Food and drinks are brilliant accompanied with very good taste and outlook. Will visit again and again.....

Brie starter was nice, but the 'hand made' burger main course disappointed. It looked like about 4oz cooked (small) and did not taste home made at all. The burger bun dwarfed the burger and the added topping of mushrooms resulted in a single mushroom slice being added to the burger. Fries were also disappointed with a very oily after taste. Surroundings were nice, beer selection was good. I'd go back for a drink but not necessarily the food.

This pub is in a great location for a drink after a walk along the canal to see the old church ruins or the watermill. Great location and looks really nice inside. The rating is slightly reduced due signs saying no dogs in part of the garden (facing the canal) and also the wires which are around the legs of tables and chairs which get in the way when sitting. Its unfortunate if they have had issues with theft in the past but still costs them a star for comfort and ambience.
S. G.
Tasty dirty burger.. highly recommended.
R. S.
Beautiful pub with a great canal side location. Been a fair few times for just drinks, drinks and informal food, and a sit down meal with family.
Always found the staff helpful and friendly. However, the location and setting demand a premium price tag, if your looking for great value, massive portions and cheap happy hour prices this is not the place for you.
During peak hours the waiting times can be a little long, but that's what I come to expect from most independent premium location establishments.
They have some great craft cask ales on tap, rotating regularly, premium largers and an extensive wine list.
Food is tasty and we'll cooked, portions are a little on the small side for me, but too big for my girlfriend so it balances out.
N. S.
Lovely food and cocktails were fantastic! Especially love the beef dripping sauce! Service was flawless even when busy
A. C.
Good choice of drinks. Great food. Both on the higher price side though, but it's a good setting next to the canal and it's a nice atmosphere. Friendly staff. Recommended.
C. M.
A very good meal, great value and excellent service
J. C.
Had a wonderful evening in good company, staff were excellent. Food was delicious though a bit on the expensive side. I hadn't been before but will definitely go again.

Location is great by the canal. The google map guide to the car park is misleading and leads to the walking path from the footpath so be careful.
The outside sitting area is beautiful by the canal. Went there for drinks and it was just cider so liked it. The cider was served with a piece of strawberry. No idea about the food.

Wow just passing through felt hungry so stopped for a meal and a pint had a lovely cold pint of Pravha and decided to have gammon egg and chips perfect choice 10/10 for the food and drink and the hospitality great pub highly recommend 🙂🙂🙂🙂

Vicki and Sharon were very welcoming, delicious food, cold drinks, nice ambience and dog friendly in the bar, not sure what else we could have asked for

Lovely variety of areas to eat/drink. Well presented, One of my favorite places to go in Mk.
Sat back with a nice cold one watching the narrow boats pass by in sunshine, while waiting for our food to arrive was bliss after the week I'd had.
Food was good, the wife had a large (good sized) roast but on an absurdly small rectangular plate, looked nice but impractical even for her little hands.
The crab and prawn tortalini in my opinion was OK, it was crying out for a few naughty chilies or infused oil, the rustic style of garlic chopping just didn't do it for me. Every other mouthful was either lacking garlic or over powered.
That said, puddings were gorgeous, locations great and the staff are lovely.
It won't be long before we're back.

I like The Black Horse, in Great Linford. It is one of the nicer pub/restaurants in Milton Keynes with a good atmosphere. You always get good service and a good quality of food. There only negative is that their behind the bar snacks are limited to crisps. Their head office has stopped them from stocking and selling nuts. Apart from that it's a great place to go to...
M. D.
Exceptional Sunday roasts and fantastic service, as always, from Kim.

My partner and I have just had a magical evening here at the black horse, extremely friendly and professional staff looked after us with delicious food and drinks.Such a beautiful setting by the canal ,we both loved our meal and our friendly waitress Julie,we totally recommend the Black Horse .
K. G.
Always a great meal here.

Lovely sitting on decking watching swan's on canal food great
P. G.
Great selection of drinks, friendly staff.
D. C.
Really friendly staff and the food was very good.
Had the festive menu and thoroughly enjoyed it.
D. R.
Lovely location, right on the canal. Great in Summer, big outdoors space to eat and drink in. Service was prompt, friendly and the food was good. I ordered the fish finger sandwich and it was excellent with freshly battered fish. The lunchtime fixed price menu is also superb value.
N. D.
Visited with friends have to say service and food was outstanding , served by Leyton a great ambassador for the restaurant .
We had a coeliac and a vegan coeliac on our table and staff and the kitchen went above and beyond to accommodate for this.
Highly recommended .
N. H.
Great pub in a great location.
Been here a few times over the years and never disappointed. Would always recommend upstairs by the canal on a sunny day.
R. Y.
Great food, great location. Helpful friendly staff. One of the best restaurants I've been to in years.
R. F.
Always had great food here. Worth booking as it does get very popular in summer. If travelling by boat, you'll want to arrive as easy as poss. Good spots go fast!
S. M.
Packed out on a sunday afternoon but managed to squeeze us in at a bar table. Food only just warm, but it was tasty, no extra gravy as stated bottomless and all waitresses and waiters are extremely good at avoiding eye contact to be asked for sauces and extra gravy.
T. C.
Fantastic food and service. The staff were brilliant and really looked after us
C. G.
Execptional food and service, lots of little rooms so didn't feel like you were around many people at all. If you want to treat yourself this is the place to go! Really good selection of food served beautifully
7.
Cosy traditional pub with exposed wooden beams and open fires. The menu was so extensive it was difficult to choose, everything sounded so good! High quality gastro pub fare. Steak was beautifully cooked as were chips, and a quality selection of whiskeys to top it off! Just the place on a cold wet winter evening.
L. F.
Food was nice but at half 10 we asked for lights in the deck which we were told NO! Even though we know full well there are lights on the deck. Bar staff were rude. We were told the staff were rude because 'they just want to go home'. So I am supposed to feel bad for buying drinks that they are selling and drinking in the dark.
C. W.
Excellent. Very nice place. Top food and top service. Staff were great. I would highly recommend having a meal here. You won't regret it.
D. M.
Our bubble of 4 on our rearranged mini break to Duxford/ Bletchley had an amazing meal at the Black Horse. Lovely staff ,very safe socially distanced space but still lovely atmosphere. We all had 3 courses ( couldn't resist the puds even though full ) and every course was 1st class . !!
Thankyou for a memorable evening in difficult times
T. C.
Lovely food and cozy pub. Lunch menu is also good, if you want some light bites. Wine is a little pricey, but overall definitely worth a visit
J. H.
My husband had the best steak he has eaten for a very very long time. Cooked by head chef John Highly recomend
M. C.
Best rib eye steak I have had in years! Lovely setting, good beer and great staff!
r. s.
Great food, friendly staff. Definitely go again.
C. H.
Four of us had lunch here on the canalside deck and it was great. The food was excellent and quickly served. I've eaten here a few times in the past, living nearby and have had to agree with previous negative reviews, but I think the black horse may have turned a corner. A particularly welcome change was to have a grown up taking our order and looking after us rather than the usual students you used to get here. Bravo! Keep it up! (Prices are slightly OTT for the area though, so loses a star for that. Also the music from the tinny speaker outdoors disturbs what should be a gorgeous tranquil spot - that needs to stop!)
A. J. B.
Popped here on a Sunday after we found most pubs stopped serving after 2pm, The Black Horse serves food on a Sunday till late which is a bonus. Was a sunny day so grabbed a table outside. The meal itself was nice. Tables outside could of done with a little more attention staff seemed to be a little thin on the ground but overall not a bad place!
t. 2.
Excellent canalside pub with a main focus on food. Stopped here for a meal and the service was great with the food to match. Has a huge garden with plenty of seating and the location by the canal makes it a wortwhile stop if you're hiking or boating along the canal.
P. T.
Nicely decorated and reopened after covid. Very efficient seating and service we only stayed for drinks but there was an extensive menu available
P. C.
Great restaurant and lovely food, staff always pleasant and helpful.
C. M.
Really good menu for Mother's Day. The food and the service was great thank you.
S. L.
Great food with very attentive staff
G. J.
Lunchtime visit with relatives for a birthday celebration. A large varied food and drinks menu at very reasonable prices. Friendly service and quality of food was excellent and would highly recommend to all. Pleased to confirm that the pub is dog friendly too.
B. W.
Service was slow , starters weren't cleared away before main arrived. Food was okay but not as great as other pubs in the chain. We were waiting for drinks most of the night. Lots of fire places so atmosphere is lovely. Next time we'll travel to another pub, shame it could be great local pub.
E. A.
Food is very nice, drinks are very nice, atmosphere is nice and there is free (slow) Wi-Fi. However what brings the score down is the price. It costs a fortune, and yes the scenery is nice but paying over £5 for a house white wine is too much
L. S.
Great service. Food is lovely. They now do a vegan menu which is great for you beautuful vegans out there. But bit disappointed you cannot have chips or sweet potatoe chips which is a shame. But lovely place to come very pretty.
A. S.
The staff took time and ensured my wife was able to eat a lovely gluten and dairy free meal. The waiter also was very honest and pointed out that we the tip we left was more then we had probably intended - she was right.
C. F.
Friendly staff, recently refurbished, lovely food, however they have changed the menu again, taken my two favourite dishes off. It's still a nice place to eat.
T. C.
Fabulous roast. Good menu with vegan options. Good beer too. Nice cosy atmosphere.
r. h.
Outstanding cuisine for our party of eight at a beautifully decorated and furnished gastropub. Eight clean plates on every course is a great testament to the food on offer. Service very good too.
C. F.
Great pub, lovely atmosphere. Food is always nice, staff friendly. Not the cheapest around but worth it. Lovely location to stop in after or during a dog walk. Plenty of space so good place to meet big groups. Cxxx

Amazing food and perfect service.
L. J.
Great country pub. Excellent, friendly service.

Fabulous country pub.....beautiful old building with wonderful ambiance. Food is superb and staff friendly cheerful and attentive. Has lovely outdoor areas so ideal for families. Cant rate this place highly enough. Thoroughly recommend.

Absolutely beautiful place to eat and drink. Fabulous service and lovely food. Will be visiting again.
J. M. (.
The food is amazing! The service is relaxed, friendly and professional, plus both the interior and exterior provide a great atmosphere: sit out by the canal when the weather is nice or tuck yourself inside when it turns cold.
L. C.
Wow! What a place! Has it's own character!Lots and lots of sitting options. Situated in very green, quiet area, next to the canals. Nice and cosy inside, tasteful mixture of old and modern design. Interesting menu, well cooked, friendly staff.
J. F.
Host was lovely and ensured we had everything we needed. Food was good. Score is actually a very high 4.
D. M. W.
Very nice staff. Lucy was brilliant as was the pub interior and ambiance. Food was above nice but not top notch (my personal opinion) hence 4 stars. Very good all round.
S. B.
Excellent food, excellent service
M. P.
A very inviting pub with a warm atmosphere the food appears to be freshly cooked and very well presented good parking and a delightful beer garden right on the edge of the grand union canal. Would have given 5 stars but for the time it took from ordering to the food reaching the table some of this would be down to being fresh cooked apart from that one thing i would highly recommend this place
R. M.
Nice pub shame the waitress ruined the evening with her attitude. FYI if you don't like waiting on people change your job. At one point I caught our waitress rolling her eyes at her colleague, when she came to put the deserts down, just because there was some confusion. Then she grabbed a pot of sugar and threw it down on the table. I'm surprised she didn't knock me out with it.
P. O.
Food was awesome. I even though short staffed, still prompt and friendly. Scenery outside next to canal is beautiful. Almost lost a star for not having jeager! Odd choice on no spirits sold.
I. P. (.
5 minutes off the motorway, great service, views of the canal from the outside dining area. The food was presented well and tasted as good as it looked. A tad expensive but you can understand why still highly recommended!
T. H.
Excellent food and service in a warm and welcoming environment.
A. S.
The food was nice but a bit pricey like the drinks, other than that it was okay. The service was good
A. S.
Cracking pub... Just bring lots of cash as it's not cheap. Two pints will set you back almost £10.00. If that doesn't faze you though, it can't be beaten for coziness in winter. Lots of comfortable seating, real fire and a relaxed atmosphere. In summer, it's right next to the canal and has plenty of seating.
S. P.
Fabulous food , highly recommend especially if you’re on your narrow boat as we were
S. B.
A warm friendly pub and restaurant with a nice atmosphere. Three real-ales on tap; Brakespear's Oxford Gold, Fuller's London Pride and Sharp's Doombar. Open fire with cosy seating. Food looked good and restaurant was busy though we did not eat.
B. M.
Had a lovely steak dinner here and the staff were very nice a d helpful 👍🏼
F. M.
Absolutely fabulous food. A bit on the expensive side but worth every penny. Can't wait to go there again. Highly recommend
G. B.
I had the pleasure of visiting your pub on the 10th of September with my daughter for lunch i had the duck salad and my daughter had a pizza the service was excellent and the food was delicious plus the way you are handling the conditions we are faced with i feel is spot on infact it was so good i visited on the very next day with another of my daughters and had another 1st class experience and the waitress her name was sandy .keep it up .
H. S.
Enjoyed drinks and foods in black horse ,very beautiful garden ,sitting area and interior design.
Had a lovely experience and enjoyed my time.
B. P.
Great food. Good portions, particularly the kids portions...which would easily feed an adult!
D. P.
Good service and food tasty - good to see people out and about - discount welcome but would have gone anyway as birthday celebration - very keen to support our local pubs and restaurants - couldn't bear to lose them
M. W.
Superb food cooked and presented very professionally at a reasonable price
L. B.
Long wait for food to be served, not too busy, not much choice for vegetarians, had two side dishes, Sunday roast was good value and veggie Sunday roast was nice , desserts were nice but again not much choice. Coffee was really nice. Plenty of parking.
C. v. V.
Wonderful experience inside and outside on the deck.
D. S.
It has been refurbished but the service is still slow, food was very nice however the chocolate and peanut butter bomb was tiny. The waitress that served me brought a drink to the table in error, instead of returning it to the bar she drunk it in the corner... Maybe this is why service is slow.
i. d.
lovely view, nice cocktails, steak wasnt very nice and overall the food is like weatherspoons (frozen) not fresh.
D. B.
Great food
S. B.
This is a really traditional pub dating back a couple of hundred years. It serves great food. Slightly pricey but lovely location on the canal. Wonderful to sit outside on a sunny day.
P. R.
I went there again last night. The food was okay, but not outsanding. Service was terrible - 10 minutes to be seated (we had pre-booked). In 2.5 hours we had eaten a starter and main course - so we didn't bother to wait around for dessert. They weren't even very busy, just very poor service.
Also, we weren't asked if we would like any sauces, the waiters weren't at all attentitive (after 5 minutes of being left with a menu, I had to becon the waiter over to take our oder), etc. Shame, because it could be a very good pub.
B.
So i do find the restaurant a bit hit and miss depending if it's busy however the food has always been good. I enjoy the fish and chips with their mint mushy peas (you must try them). The Black Horse also has a massive beer garden to enjoy in the summer months.
R. S.
Great nutritious bowl with salmon and excellent service in the sun overlooking the canal. Thanks to the two servers that were excellent.
T. B.
I wanted to re-write my review because I think this place is better than I first let on. Reasonably priced and very scenic with fantastic food, service was good, beautiful dining area and its nice having a drink near the fire.
M. B.
It's a really nice pops excellent food
J. P.
Wonderful food .Staff r very versatile, friendly, and a lovely pub to frequent.
H. M.
Great place, really interesting and well decorated traditional building. Tasty cosy food with all the classic choices and a few more exciting ones on top. Will be back.
M. D.
I had a burger. We sat outside and enjoyed the view of the canal. The waitstaff was a bit slow but not excessively slow however the restaurant was very busy so it is understandable.
The burger was great and the service was friendly.
T. S.
Amanda make our tasty and very well presented meal amazing!!! We all did have a really good time at The Black Horse!!!
Thank You all... chefs, waiters and you Amanda!!! It was great Festive Time!!!

Honestly fantastic food, beautiful location, excellent staff and service. Can't rate this place high enough!! Highly recommended!!
P. K.
Not Dog Friendly, unless sitting well away from the pub.
J. B.
Fabulous place to eat. Outside is the sunshine is just amazing, it’s also cosy inside in the wintertime. Varied menu. Recommend booking in the current climate
J. T.
Had lunch here yesterday with friends . Lovely food with great service . Particular mention to Kim for her attention , perfect mix of warmth and professionalism. Lovely waitress .
M. K.
Delicious food, nice place, quiet big menu and drink menu. The only little problem was the waitresses was littlebit unprofessional, but I got this is not a very posh expensive restaurant. I recommend it.
C. C.
Lovely food, great service, fantastic location and beautiful gardens! Great pub.
g. f.
Good variety and choice of food, reasonably priced
L. C.
This is a lovely locatio along the canal and the combination of old world and has been really nicely done. Their food is great too and we look forward to going back with my daughters.
A. P.
Excellent food and very friendly helpful staff. Got extra custard, yum yum
S. M.
Delicious food in a lovely setting, would definitely recommend!
G. B.
Great service and nice food right next to the canal so great for an evening meal. Food came out fast and was of good quality. Thanks for a great meal!
J. D.
We booked online for a table of 4 for Sunday lunch, service and food were exceptional, lots of people turning up without booking and being turned away annoyed, please use common sense people these places are restricted to how many they can have in one go, they have to comply with restrictions or lose their business, being rude and making a show of yourself is not the way to go, be considerate and book online like everyone else, they are just doing their job!!
R. J.
Friendly nice pub. Lovely garden.
A. S.
People are very friendly, menu is good to choose from. They are having an update of the premises, but don't let that put you off.
Would recommend to anyone in the area. Will be visiting again once reopened.
L. N.
Great food and fantastic atmosphere. The staff were a great help even though we were quite a big group last minute. Highly recommended.
S. T.
Entrance from main road poorly sign posted, dark & poorly maintained & has many pot holes. Disabled parking difficult to enter & reverse from & is on a hill. Service mediocre. Prices expensive. Public toilets upstairs.
K. P.
Very nice gastro pub. Staff attentive and friendly. Food was cooked well and tasty and not overly expensive
