Reviews of The Brandling Villa
c. k.
Great place, been here a few times over the years and it's always a really nice atmosphere. Stopped in today for lunch with my partner and teenage daughter and the pooches. I had a burger, other half had dirty fries and my daughter had the chicken burger. Everything we had was fantastic, my daughter said her chicken burger was "banging", which I think is teenage for "proper tasty like".
R. H.
An exceptionally pleasant pub to spend time in, with delicious food.
I normally work at home, but whilst work is being performed on a house over the road, the dog has been going crazy. I chose to spend time in the Brandling Villa on my laptop where the dog is extremely happy.
The beers are excellent, the atmosphere is amiable and the food is something special! As a bit of a connoisseur/fanatic of Korean Fried Chicken, I hesitantly tried their Gangnam Chicken, expecting slight disappointment because of my picky standards. I shouldn't have hesitated, it was one of the best dishes of its type I've ever had... Better than most authentically Korean restaurants! The portion was generous, it was deliciously crispy and the sauce has the right levels of sweet and spicy.
The dog thoroughly enjoyed her beef shin too!
I want to move in here!
N. R.
Probably our favourite place to go and relax with our dogs on a rainy day..great food absolutely guaranteed. I could eat their tempura cauliflower every day. Dogs are made welcome, service is always friendly and it has a lovely,
relaxed atmosphere.
S. M.
This is the best pub I've ever been to, where do I even start? Firstly, the atmosphere is very warm and welcoming, with nice music in the background. Dogs are allowed in this pub which I think is super nice. The staff are friendly and the food is amazing, they have the best chicken tenders and skin-on fries. The prices are decent too. Absolutely recommend and will be visiting many more times in the future.
H. R.
This is a great venue. I love the fact it's dog friendly. Good variety of drinks and beers/ales. The staff are friendly and helpful. The only reason they lost a star is the food is a little pricey for a pub. Apart from that get yourselves to this place. It's great.
R.
Brill place to bring the dogs, bar a few issues.
Food could be better. Some of the burgers are awesome but things like the nachos. I ordered the steak nachos and they were soaked in oil and overall not great.
Could do with a menu rework. Feel like they could do with a section that's less heavy. I wouldn't say light just less deep fried feel.
On the drinks front they could do with a better wine choice. Maybe some nice prosecco and cheap and cheerful white zinfandel etc etc...
C. R.
One of the best pubs and meals I've had in forever. Whey it's dog friendly, so if that isn't a turn on I don't know what is. It's filled with fun art and has a brilliant range of beers and other drinks on offer. The food was unreal. Like I'm a fussy eater, especially with meat, but this place served! I couldn't believe how tasty the winner winner chicken was! Unreal gravy, fresh tasty chicken with nee gritty gristle bits or veins. Just top notch all around. The staff were really friendly and came round to check we were enjoying the food/needed owt. Can't recommend enough!
G. K.
Nice atmosphere and very friendly and helpful staff good variety of drinks (as a driver I had a non alcoholic beer and even from this I could choose from 4 different types.) Easy parking at the back and the match been played on a large screen projector at my visit. Friendly guests around too. Thank you. 😉
S. S.
Great real ale brewed at their micro brewery on the premises. A warm inviting bar space with a large beer gardens for day time/ warm evening. Children and pet friendly
L. C.
Really lovely relaxing atmosphere in the pub. Food was served extremely fast and the burgers were amazing. Will definitely be back to try the rest of the menu.
N. A.
One of our favourite pubs in the Newcastle area. Atmosphere is great with good music selection (we are 18, 28 and 30 year olds), varied crowd of people, and dogs allowed! Live music here is often great. Big TV for watching the games on.
The food is what does it for us though, with high quality ingredients and delicious offerings. Portion sizes are large and food is usually cooked to perfection - we love the chips and burgers. You pay a bit more than at other pubs but it's worth it.
n. p.
Beer good..... But when told the snacks were rancid ( chilli flavoured pork scratchings), I was ignored by lady collecting glasses last Friday afternoon. She claimed that the chilli was hot ..... But that wasn't my issue. In date snacks were rancid. Pub needs to stop selling them and look for compensation from Staffordshire pork scratchings. Left horrid taste in mouth. We stopped drinking and left. Pity, there were more beers to try and the atmosphere was good.
K. P.
Went there to see a band called The Revolutionaries. The band was free but drinks were expensive and card only. Suppose I can't complain as the band was great and free as well.
S. J.
Great visit as always. Excellent food, great natural wines and plenty of doggos 😁
D. P.
The Brandling Villa is a lively pub with a bohemian feel. All of the draught drinks served are local ales and ciders. The food is honest "pub grub" with generous portions that genuinely fill you up. The pulled pork fries are not to be missed.
Whether grabbing a coffee or a few alcoholic drinks with friends the Brandling is a greet meeting place. The pub has a quiz every Sunday which requires a well rounded team for some of the more challenging questions. Be sure to arrive at or before 8pm if you want to be guaranteed of seats!
S.
Come here every week, great ales and food plus there's a dog menu too. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, If you're dog person then this is the pub for you.
J. A.
Great choice of ales. Friendly team working there. Dogs welcome.
Food menu as well
Great view of the craziest set of roundabouts in the North East 🤣
M. W.
The food selection is great, very funny menu names and the food quality is excellent. The venue is very accommodating for both children and dogs so was perfect for us.
Beer selection also great, having neck oil on draft is a wonderful thing.
Staff lovely and willing to help out whenever needed, cant say a bad thing about the whole experience!
R. M.
Great beer range big portions of burger /nacho type food. Dog friendly always a bonus.
First return post pandemic, broader range of food, still great beer and very welcoming of dogs... even after a wet walk in the Dene.
S. L.
Excellent food and fantastic beer.
Really comfortable and completely dog friendly.
C. P.
Lovely place for a drink. Reasonable outside space and often has a dog or two relaxing. Can be busy at times but wonderful for a good day drink
P. M.
Great place if you like good burgers and like them big! Lots of beers on tap but not tried them yet.
Visited today. Same great place. New menu with plenty to choose from. Dog friendly. Staff extremely helpful and friendly.
L. D.
Great atmosphere. Quirky pictures and menu. Great staff. The only downside foe me is the skin on fries but thats just my personal taste.
D. B.
Nice bar, good selection of draft beer and ales, very dog friendly. Only downside is it fairly pricey.
P. S.
There is 'an acquired taste' vibe about the Brandling. There is a certain trendiness factor. It does some cracking bar food, locally sourced/made. Special nights 'Burger me Thursdays', pie night, sausage night, etc. All dishes are given their own unique name which is fun for first time callers. The beer choice is outstanding if your into your ale, porter, cider etc. The down side, at least for me, is their dog policy. Don't get me wrong, i love dogs, but I don't always like them near my food and drink all that much, or when they're barking at each other, when all your after is a quiet drink. Though saying that, it does give the place a nice atmosphere on occasion. There are two other pubs close by, if you want a mini pub crawl.
A. M.
Great place, great staff and great food and our dachshund enjoyed his lunch also.
J. T.
Went for colleagues leaving party, great drinks, good prices, friendly staff, no hassles. Will 100% go again, excellent
A. C.
Its gone downhill massively. What was a nice cosy pub has turned into a scruffy student common room of some sort. Dont even take cash anymore. Wipe your feet on the way out
V. H.
Very decent pub. Went there with some colleagues for lunch as it was my first time in Newcastle. Was pleasantly surprised by the service - it was quick, efficient and friendly. I had the bratwurst which was delicious. Atmosphere was very good and the place seemed to have good cleaning standards. Would definitely recommend. Of course tap is available as well.
G. W.
Great location, very nice old pub feel whilst being quite a modern enough to attract a younger crowd. They brew some of their own ales onside and the food looks really good. Only negative is they don't take cash so you have to pay on card.
M. P.
Proper pub with great home cooked food. Added bonus that it's also dog friendly
D. L.
Love The Brandling Villa, great staff, great menu, dog friendly. Fab-u-lous, thank you Neil and staff.
C. A.
Such a good environment and your dog can have food aswell, also the food for humans is really good deffo take a trip if you want to have a good evening for food and drink
K. P.
1st time we have been back in about 8years. It is much nicer and cleaner (No longer smells funky). Staff were great and friendly. Food was lovely, had burgers. They have a brilliant selection of draft beers and lagers. You can take your dog.
R. K.
Great food, great range of drinks (including their own brews and ‘stills, dog-friendly - what more could you want?!
M. S.
I love it because they encourage dogs to visit and there is a doggy menu. Her food looked good enough for a human to eat. Waited a long time for my food and it was typical pub food; good and lots of it.
q. v.
Beautiful decour inside and outside ,food was very good could not fault it and service was great friendly and attention to detail, had a wonderful lunch with my daughter Thank you
A. M.
Lovely place, so happy to come here with my dog, always an enjoyable experience.
R. S.
Always friendly service, always top quality food. I'm vegetarian and the choice is still great. I had an enormous vegetarian burger with lovely blue cheese and fried mushrooms. Brilliant value.
A lot of care has gone into concocting the menu and the results are great. There aren't many pubs with a better offering.
R. R.
Great pub but they don't always stick to the kitchen opening times...
J. R.
Beer selection = class
Food = absolutely belta
Banter = top shelf
Seriously good pub, staff are great, always make you feel welcome. Couldn't ask for a better boozer really. Probably the best bar food around too, had the 'everybody loves Jerry burger' and my god what a delight.
S. J.
It's ok, Heineken was ok but just stayed for one and moved on
L.
Nice atmosphere. We sat outside. Service was quick and staff friendly. We both had beer and burger and shared the haggis chips. Portions are very generous. Meal was fantastic. Even the plain chips were perfect. Highly recommend a visit.
W. U.
Excellent food! Very dog friendly - Sisi and Lucy give four paws up 🐶
J. L.
Really nice vibe, really nice staff and really nice food. Great vegan options and dog friendly
D. W.
Great dog friendly pub. They serve great food and drinks (meals are also available for your dog). There is live entertainment and movie nights. The Brandling Villa is a great pub and well worth a visit.
More recently I was disappointed by the Korean Chicken Sandwich. It was a very nice tasting burger but they have taken the very distinct korean taste of Gochujang and diluted it to the point where it tastes like any other chilli mayo. Maybe it is obvious to everyone else but expect really good tasting food but not overly authentic.
R. W.
Wrote a bad review about this bar a while back but since then been totally won over by the place. Amazing ales especially the overkill, reasonable prices and Luke, Kirsty, Georgia and Ben are fantastic on the bar!
P. C.
Cozy relaxed place with humorous meat and veggie food (but no puddings yet), varied selection of beers and dogs.
G. V.
If you are after a quality burger or a tasty snack that is also dog friendly then look no further. Our pooch loves it there as do we.
A. C.
A great place to sample local ales and a variety of beverages. Staff were friendly
A. B.
Brilliant place, good staff, reasonable prices. If you are in the area, pop in. It's hardly changed in 20 years.
A. 5.
Great food and beer choice in excellent dog friendly pub.
C.
Always a brilliant pub. If you love dogs, good food, a great selection of beers and an awesome atmosphere, then this is one of the best places in the world for all of those and more.
A. A.
Love visiting the Brandling Villa. The food is really tasty, great variety of drinks and friendly atmosphere. We love the spicy chicken with blue cheese and the Reuben fritters!
C. O.
Has definitely went down hill...
We went for the two for Tuesday's, which we've been many times and enjoyed before.
Unfortunately, this time the chips were so salty to the point where they were almost inedible, and the burger was overdone and rushed as food came out within 5 mins so most likely not cooked to order, (not sure how as we we're one of few people there!)
Used to prefer here to the punchbowl but I'm doubtful I'll be back for a while.
Shame..
A. C.
Lovely pub, extremely friendly and welcoming! Tasty food with funny names and plenty choices of craft beers and ales. Love the new pretzel buns on the burgers! Also they're dog friendly
J. x.
This has to be the best dog-friendly bar I've been to so far! Great beers, and a good choice of food too - they also do dog meals that'll keep your hounds busy whilst you eat yours!
R. T.
Amazing burgers and great selection of beers, I strongly recommend this place.
S. M.
This pub is different, different in a good way, we called in for the first time in a Sunday lunch time looking for some food. To say this pub is dog friendly is an understatement, people were sat enjoying a drink and food with family pets.
I liked the Quirky menu, went for a burger which did not disappoint, great taste, lovely proper chips, and good portions.
Overall it's a really friendly atmosphere , plenty of dogs to pet, type of place that's informal and without too many rules.
There is a menu for Dogs so they can eat when you can.
Definitely worth another visit.
J. B.
Love the new vegan menu options including hot dogs and burgers. Relaxing vibes, dog friendly and really helpful staff. Was told they were out of vegan cheese but the chef ran across the road to the store to purchase more for us. They were very proactive. Most importantly, the food was delicious! Worth going to, and in a sunny day there's outdoor seating as well.
S. J.
Gorgeous, spacious outdoor dining with friendly bar staff. Food is delicious and in great portions. Doggy visitors are also happily welcomed and catered for on the menu! Fabulous!
K. “. L.
Lovely cosy pub. Friendly staff and excellent wine. Best thing though - loads of lush dogs in there 🐶
R. F.
Comfortable, friendly, great food. Especially the chips, superb!
Good selection of beers too.
Atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Nicely dark but with big windows.
If you like watching people be confused by roundabouts this is absolutely the pub for you.
D. O. S.
Good atmosphere, nice pub, really nice staff. They just need to clean up the tables a bit more often. Loads of empty glasses across a lot of tables
J. S.
Very good beer selection, amazing food (with brilliant vegan options), friendly staff and there are pretty much always dogs so you can't go wrong
m. c.
A very comfortable and airy pub in the north of the city. They have a good range of craft beers, although only a couple are on tap. It's decorated in a hipster-lite fashion with good use of recycled wood. It's dog friendly. Food-wise they offer a range of extremely fattening burgers with delicious thrice-fried chips. Don't eat here everyday if you want to get old!
T. C.
Gorra be the most dog friendly pub in the UK. Almost always busy. Quick service, comprehensive range of beers and food
C. W.
Homely atmosphere with friendly staff. Very accommodating to our nervous dog who was made very welcome as are all dogs. The menu for our 4-legged friends is a nice touch, the human menu is varied and serves the usual pub grub with some interesting additions like Pierogi.
Would definitely return.
S. P.
I love the Brandling, the food and atmosphere is brilliant. Often we'll pop in for a drink after work and get seduced by the menu. Its good quality and big portions.
It's a great socializing pub with games for everyone and dogs are very welcome.
My partner loves the selection of ales and the staff are usually knowledgeable to talk about the beer and make suggestions.
We've been coming for years and will continue to do so, keep up the good work guys!
S. D.
Great laid back pub with awesome food and great beer. The burgers need to be sampled as they are outstanding.
M.
Love the new look. Best bar on Gosforth High Street
H. R.
First time in this place. The food was tremendous. Hands down the best fries I've ever put down my neck. Dog friendly too and they serve a small choice of meals for the dog. I'll definitely be returning!
J. D.
Just the absolute best pub there ever was. I mean seriously, if you have even a tiny mangled stump of a sense of humour you'll love it. Drinks and food all great. Staff very friendly. And always full of dogs. Could only be improved by addition of further animals.
L. S.
Best pub in the whole world ever! Amazing selection of drinks, delicious food and delightful staff. Couldn’t ask for a better boozer.
O. L.
This place is one of my favourite places. the homemade food is lush and has some of the funniest names, eg. Nicola Sturgeon’s Midnight Haggis Fries or David Dickinson Deluxe. There is alway a few real ales on and always served well. If I lived nearer I probably would be in every day.
T. M.
A great atmosphere friendly staff and a great range of craft beer, don't ask for a half as they measure in 1/3 of a pint. Although we did not have food it looked very nice with good size portion. This is a pet friendly bar so attracts a wide variety of people
L. M.
Baby friendly, dog friendly, brilliant staff, great burgers!
I always feel comfortable bringing my baby here, there are good baby changing facilities and the staff are so friendly.
M. S.
Great atmosphere for a weekend night as well as mid week pint. Large variety of local ales and they keep changing those as well, so often new things to try. You can have a taster of an ale before you buy as well. Dogs welcome, children as well - but dogs preferred:)
B. H.
Good vibes and very clean pub Staff very friendly. Food is amazing best part for me. If you want good food in a friendy and dog friendy pub this is the place.
G. L.
Great staff, great choice of drinks, and if you're a vegan looking to stuff your face then you'll have more choice here than you'll know what to do with. Fantastic place. The only real downside, which is no fault of the pub because of its location is the limited parking. But apart from that, a big fat five stars out of five! 👍
J. D.
Wow! What a place. Most importantly it's dog friendly and with cat flavoured gravy on the pups menu .. who would miss out? The food here is amazing and the selection of beers is jaw dropping. All very well looked after. Great atmosphere and plenty of space so you don't feel crowed in. Comfy sofas or sit at a table. Parking is a plenty and a nice little lit up beer garden. :) Do not miss out on this place. I'm going back asap!!!
S. K.
The burgers, if I was asked for a one line statement its the burgers. They are very good, and the portions are spot on. The staff were friendly and service quick pouring the perfect pint. Plus the decor and atmosphere helps as well. All in all its a great place to stuff your face and drink booze.
G. J.
Love it, my local & my favourite pub. If you're a dog person to the point where you think dogs should take priority over humans, this is the pub for you. Best dog friendly pub I've ever been to.
D. G. C.
Nice pub, good selection beers, the food is also good and the ambiance is local and friendly. I recommend.
C. S.
Lovely pub with a great atmosphere and plenty of space. Dog friendly which is great and friendly staff.
Menus a play on words and puns throughout which is funny but the foods not getting any awards. Winner winner chicken diner! Definitely not a winner for me.
N. G.
Excellent pub, out the way but attracts a great crowd. The bar staff were a great laugh and it's off friendly so plenty of puppies lounging around too. They had a good vegan food menu too - loads of excellent junk food!!
A. K.
One of my favourite pubs. Fantastic atmosphere with a great selection of drinks and a top menu. Staff are super helpful and friendly and a lot of the food and drink is sourced locally. On top of all that, it's totally dog friendly so there's always a great canine crowd in.
Occasional live music, quiz nights and top marketing. The Brandling just ticks all of the right boxes.
Can't really mention any downsides, other than sometimes it is difficult to find a seat.
V. R.
Food was good shame about the place it self very shabby could do with a re-fit
B. G.
Very good food, the homemade chips make it delishious
J. S.
Very good, popular, traditional pub. It has a good range of ales and is dog-friendly. There are often many dogs in this bar. It has a friendly atmosphere. I really enjoyed my visit here. I would highly recommend it.
A. F.
Burgers are to die for, great selection with a diverse range of flavours! Great pub with plenty of proper Northern character we miss since moving to Yorkshire. Great beer selection to complement the menu! We will be back!
J. R.
Awesome bar! I've eaten, drunk and performed here with my band several times over and it's a top place. They support live acts as thoroughly as they can, and the punters on the whole are absolutely well up for a gig night. Great choice of beers, and the menu is definitely worth checking out. Not five stars for me because I don't really want to be around dogs at any point in my life, never mind a pub, but I know I'm in the minority here in this instance. Scope it out.
A. S.
Cosy pub with lots of humour and quirks. Helpful, friendly staff and delicious food. Good menu. Very dog friendly.
R. R.
Service at bar can be slow. Food not consistent and certainly not good value for money. I think for £11 for a main dish you would expect something more than barely edible. They need a better chef. I think the drinks are ok but I don't drink. Atmosphere is fine as anyone would fit in.
C. G.
Been waiting for this moment for over a year and it didn't disappoint. Usual Brandling quality. Super friendly staff. Spot on.
L. P.
Trendy dog-friendly pub. Good variety of beers and decent foods. Vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff. Always enjoy hanging out with friends here. Burger me Thursdays highly recommended!
R. K.
Trendy pet friendly pub with good food. Premium larger and craft beer served, with a playful menu full of great food and daily specials. Only problem is the place gets really busy and its small, hard to get a table most evenings.
N. W.
At first it smells like an old man's house, then once you get past that the choice of ales are great. But the best thing is the food. Just superb. I want to go back, honestly.
D. F.
Gorgeous homely pub. Dog-friendly is always a plus. Have never eaten there but if I were to it may change my rating from four stars to five, as I’ve heard very good things about the food.
C. N.
Cool Dog Friendly pub that has a great selection of local and international beers and ales.
The highlight in my opinion is the burger menu. There's a selection of tasty strange combination burgers that you really have to taste to believe.
There's some times movie nights or live music.
B. T.
Plenty of choice. Good menu and loads of different beers. Friendly staff and quick service. Also dog friendly. However food wise - it's a place for the hungry rather than the gastronome.
I. F.
Went in with my kids. Lovely friendly service. Food was awesome, the kids loved there meals. Quality beer as well!
Y. S.
Wonderful pub with a good atmosphere, good food, good range of drinks and lots of lovely dogs. My only negative is about the food - in that I asked for a food item to be removed (tomatoes), but they are there when the food was served. Otherwise, I would give this lovely place five stars.
I. B.
Nice pint. Good variety of beers. Full of happy dogs. Traffic attempting the roundabouts is mesmerising.
P. g.
Great quirky pub. Amazing food.... Dog friendly and great outside space.
K. S.
Booked a table for 1230 on Wednesday due to only having one kid as the other was in someone elses care!
I love this place. I hope it survives this bloody virus. The food is fantastic and the craic, even on the menu is fabulous. I wish I could have heard the cruise story.
Looking forward to the next cheese festival. Hopefully won't need to be socially distanced.
S. P.
Large open-plan type pub, good sofas, friendly atmosphere, interesting home-made food and microbrewery, what more could you ask for?
M. W.
Food is delish and the menu is so humourous! Bar staff are lovely and friendly, I can't fault the BV!! The nachos were lush 😋
b. l.
Pub ok need to change the lager though it's lettings the pub down
D. L.
Food was ok but not much variety on offer. Was packed at 6pm on a Friday evening. I have got 2 dogs but I wouldn't take them on a Friday night whilst eating food. There was several people there with dogs having food big dogs as well. Was very crowded for the dogs. I would take mine during the afternoon whilst having a pint as it's not too noisy for the dogs and more space. Plus I wouldn't want to make other punters feel uncomfortable whilst they are eating their food. Otherwise good pub lots of choice for drink. Friendly staff as well.
S. S.
Great staff and an exceptionally dog friendly pub. I will definitely be back. I didn't eat on this occasion but the food I saw was well presented and smelled delicious. Great selection of drinks and the whimsical menu made me smile.
J. C.
Incredible food and service.
I have coeliacs disease, and when talking to bar staff they were very friendly and considerate for the food requirements. And a meal was made specially gluten free, which very rarely happens. Amazing waitress, who was genuine. Loved all of it.
H. A.
Best burgers in Newcastle! Really generous portions, perfectly crisp chips and plenty of novel choices of toppings in the menu. The venue itself is a nice mash up of modern and antique with leather sofas, craft beers and board games. It's also great that dogs are not only welcomed, but encouraged and celebrated! Definitely one of my favourite places to grab some scran of a weekend.
L. C.
Quiz on a Sunday pretty good. Dog friendly pub with nice atmosphere. Nice range of ales and ciders reasonable price. Burgers pretty good mine had chilli on and was amazing, spicy mayo for chips also lovely 😊
R.
Excellent Warm and inviting Dog Friendly pub, Very nice food ( try the Cheryl Cole burger), Unique Beers, Live Entertainment, and best of all Estella on tap!
A couple of things easily missed are the ping pong table and the outside area. Outside area is perfect for a smoke or on a sunny day.
M. H.
Lovely place, very relaxed and the food is superb.
A.
Food is pretty good here but they skimp on staffing the place properly. Came in for lunch and only one guy serving the entire place including working the bar, he was doing his best although he didnt notify us that food would be 50 minutes wait (even just chips took that long). I'd say give it a bash but there are better places around.
D. F.
Mega selection of largers, ales and ipas with a rotation of craft beers brewed in the basement by some sort of brewery troll called Dave apparently. Good vulgar American style food aswell
J. R.
Great atmosphere. A dog friendly pub so usually very lively. Good choice of beer and a quirky menu with tasty burgers in large portions
J. M.
Hilarious menu and the food is great. Beer selection is awesome. Probably one of the best pubs in the North East. Dog friendly too
A. L.
WOW, never enjoyed a burger so much, the flavours combination was excellent.
Dog friendly as well, all after the Burgers.
No problems, quick service. Very friendly atmosphere.
Well worth it.
A. P.
Nice quirky pub. Pets welcome. First time visiting here was a nice experience pleased I've visited here.
W. H. C.
Good friendly dog pub, has a good selection of beers and ales but it’s now starting to small like a dog pub
J. W.
Great burger menu and really good beer. It's a pleasant surprise to find such well kept beer. Slightly irreverent tone on the menu but I like their "devil may care" attitude.

Great place for nice beers and excellent pub food, I have never been disappointed! Had the halloumi crack fries and the border reiver rides again today and both were amazing! Best of all its Dog and child friendly.
G. J.
I do like the Villa and frequent regularly for it's range of beers, atmosphere and proximity to where I live. However, the standard at which the beers are kept could be better. They're 'OK' but never great. And most are 5% plus, which also isn't great if you want to have 3 or 4 beers but still have a clear head the next day. Better quality and more selection of around 4% beers please!
F.
Good pub for one or two drinks and chill out. You can bring your dog to this pub and they provide a bowl of water. They also actually do good food.
J. G.
Literally my favourite pub in the world! (Which is a massive boast) incredible food, unbeatable beer and attracts a good, friendly crowd. They really push the boat on some unique special events and the staff are great too.
R. B.
I think this is by far the best pub in Gosforth/South Gosforth. Great beers, good food, friendly atmosphere.
T. R.
Brilliant bar, great beer, great food, lovely staff, fab bands, great vibe. And,, best of all, very dog friendly - so if you don't like dogs, stay away! G
o to a boring pub!
V. S.
The chicken dinner is beaut....arrived just before 9 and lovely staff lady said she'd let the chef know we wanted food. Huge portions and really tasty. Would recommend to anyone who will listen!!
W. C.
I was served by a tall blond barperson with a great personality who could not have been more helpful, she explained all the beers and give me a taster which I have not found in any other bar.
I,m not sure if she was the manager but if not the owners are missing a trick. Real good night made better by the staff.
M. W.
Lovely, quirky old pub. Great range of drinks and a good food menu.
Very dog friendly. There is even a food and drink menu especially for them!
P. S.
There's a burger on the menu called 'The Secrets of Brian Harvey's Ring Binder' and vegetarian dishes are denoted by a tiny Morrissey head. That should give you an idea about the kind of humorous and laid back vibe this place has. The portions are big and the food is really tasty. Some unusual touches, like deep fried Cajun corn on the cob make the burger and fries based menu more interesting. There are special events from time to time such as the Oktoberfest specials with tons of bratwurst and steins of beer. The place is very dog friendly and even serves a dog beer for your four legged friend. If you're in the area of South Gosforth you must check it out.
i. c.
Awesome pub for ppl with good taste. Good ale, good food, good music, good craic!
Head and shoulders best pub in Gosforth and gives most of the Ouseburn a run for its money.
One bit of constructive criticism, menu could be clearer as to what’s vegan, substitutions, subtractions etc. Even just a separate vegan/veggie menu would be great!
M. S.
The best place I've vistited in the whole Newcastle. Food was delicious, they had a lot of great beers to choose from, prices were reasonable, the atmosphere happy and relaxed, staff extremely friendly and helpful - they had knowledge and many good suggestions, they took care of the dogs inside (I saw them checking on and bringing water for the dogs), that was also pretty great.
R. R.
My first ever visit and first visit for wife in 48 years. Apparently it has changed. Covid friendly, sanatiser, nhs track and trace. Ordering food and drink via website cumbersome for me but with more practice I'm sure it gets easier. Very helpful and understanding staff. Good food and drink selection.
B. R.
Slightly quirky menu. Very Geordie. Great food. Great service. Very friendly. Atmospheric.
R. W.
Pretty good food, excellent ale. And the place has plenty of well behaved dogs. Like mine. Oh and the background music is EXCELLENT (if you're getting on a bit).
C. S.
Amazing menu, lovely calm atmosphere, a perfect place to go and experience some great food.
P. S.
Lovely warm welcome. Great choice of vegan burgers and dogs. Nice selection of beers- IPA's. Dog friendly.
C. M.
My partner, dogs and I absolutely love it here. Always made to feel welcome and thoroughly enjoy the food. Even make a decent cup of coffee which is important to me as the designated driver.
S. C.
If you like realy good comfort food and are happy not to be on a diet this is the place for you. Lovely home made chips, mac n cheese balls, burgers, pies, nachos, hot spicy food etc. Just for starters and much more. Mmmm!! We will be back soon.
a. m.
Food is incredible, beers top notch, staff are spot on. When someone says perfect pub i always imagine the brandling.
P. G.
Majestic looking place on the busy south Gosforth roundabout. Dog friendly and really near the start of a great jesmond dene walk. Food is surprisingly really good. Had the chicken and black pudding stack. Was really nice, looked better than the burgers
R. V.
A bit disappointed after the menu has changed and missing some of my favourite burgers such as the Porco Rosso Flies Again and the Bacon, bacon, bacon.. But still a very nice place for drinks and food and you always have a few cute dogs around.
M. A.
Not very cheap, but not expensive either - definitely friendly staff, good food, a variety of draught beers, and a welcoming environment overall.
S. T.
Food good. Very friendly
D. J.
Great little pub. Good food. Good service. Observing all social distancing measures. Currently table service and ordering via website available.
M. E.
Fantastic pub. A little difficult to find if you don't know the area but the range of high quality beers on tap is amazing. The food is also great with a good range for everyone and at a good price.
K.
It was fun!
The portions are massive. I think that’s the style they are going for. The menu items are witty. Had a chicken dinner was fantastic. No Sunday Lunch menu.
p. s.
Always a great selection of beers available. Plenty of food choices, all with comedy naming. The occasional pub dog roaming around. Best bar in the area. Busy on weekends
P. B.
Burgers were to die for and the range of ales and beers was great. Plus, dog friendly so you get to pat some friendly pets whilst drinking - what's not to like!
D. T.
Great place to hang out only one thing that puts it at 4 Stars is some of the bands can be noisy. And instruments drown out the singer's voice. Great food and dog friendly. Also great real ale.
R. A. L.
Fab people, fab beer, fab dergs, as always
P. R.
Suprisingly good pub. Sits on a very busy, conjested road junction, so not ideal,, but it was a bit of a revelation. Nice decor, good food and a good range of hand pulled beers.
J.
Gteat selection of beers, the best burger menu in Newcastle, and a load of dogs. What's not to like? Well, the tacos aren't great, but everything else is.
K. W.
This is what it's all about. Love this place, the staff are always friendly and accommodating. Food is fab as well as everything that goes with a good pub. Would highly recommend this place to anyone.
G. M.
I really love the Brandling Villa, one of the nicest pub for cask in the Newcastle area. Great range and service. The staff is always friendly and the food is nice! Their burgers are particularly good!
I. B.
Excellent selection of beers, ales and cider. The food is outstanding!
Not the biggest menu, but what they do is very good.
Well worth a visit
D. M.
Good beers, friendly staff and the food menu is alright (most things are covered in cheese it seems). Kitchen doesn't open until 4pm on a Sunday, which I thought odd.
J. P.
Nice pub and good food. Saw a great band there. Big red and the grinners.
L. P.
Food is great... staff are great... took our dog for lunch after a long walk...
Only downside was the owners dog, frank.
Growling at our dog when we walked in and wouldn't go away when he was trying to eat his dinner... put him off in the end as he kept coming over.
After putting my dog on the window ledge out of the way with his own food, the owners dog was then greeding food of me and my mrs...
Annoying, dogs are welcome, behaved dogs are allowed off the lead.
This dog was a pest.
Wasted £5 on a meal ny dog couldnt eat in peace... down to 4 stars.
Constant lurking round greeding food, down to 3 stars
G. W.
OK if you like dogs. LOTS of dogs, very dog friendly, but dont go if you have an allergy. Because of Covid, complicated and time consuming to buy a drink.
J. H.
The food and beer here are fantastic but the main attraction has to be the dog friendly nature of the place. You can pretty much guarantee to bump into a new four legged friend here and there's even a dog menu and beer!
R. C.
Great pub with a bit of a wait but very much worth it. Burgers are HUGE. Dog and child friendly with a pub quiz and board games. Great atmosphere.
L. R.
Quite simply the best pub in Newcastle. Incredible food, great atmosphere and a wonderful selection of great ales. Also: Dogs. Dogs make everything better.
H. C.
Good old fashioned pub with reasonable selection. Lovely staff and lots of dogs. Food is not too bad. Not the cheapest but good value for money.
L. W.
Great food in a lovely setting. Dog friendly too.
The menu is written in an hilarious manner. No political correctness here lol.
All in all a great meal.
A. D.
Great pub with a wide selection of beers and food. There is also a good menu for those who are vegan. Dog friendly.
T.
Dogs are better people than people are people.
D. P.
Great gig - Trevor Sewell and Marty Craggs. Not so good beer choice - no John Smiths - all real ale shite - and no Crabbies and the service was poor. The place was chocker for the gig and there was insufficient staff to cope.
A. C.
This is actually the best place I've eaten in a long time. Food was unreal, friendly staff and the room had a great atmosphere. Full of character. Highly recommended and I will definitely be back again.
A. S.
Lovely food and great service as usual. First time back since before pandemic. Thank you
n. h.
Decent pub taken over by current owners who have turned it round . Vsst range of handpump and keg beers. Food good. Takes and welcomes dogs! .
L. B.
The food here is fantastic, as is the range of real ales. Dogs welcome, along with kids. Live music and quiz nights. A little bit more expensive than normal.
P. T.
Good beer selection, and tasty humorous menu.
J. C.
Great dog friendly pub, lovely food and atmosphere. Appreciate the effort of having so many lovely vegan options!
T. H.
I love the brandling villa. They have special drinks and special food. It may be all fried, but it's a pub so who cares?!? They is also a video game machine with free classic games! Eat, drink and be merry!
Edit, the quality of food and portion size has gone down. Still love the brandling. But man what happend?! The price of fame?
J. H.
Lovely pub with a great atmosphere. Good choice of beers and a nice menu too. Very Dog friendly.
J. A.
Brilliant food, great friendly atmosphere. Drinks are a bit pricey. Also dog friendly which is a plus.
B. B.
A good selection of real ales. Dog friendly. Only takes card payments.
C. N.
Without doubt my favourite pub. Staff, beer and food all lovely. Covid compliance is second to none, by far the best in South Gosforth.

A. D.
Lovely welcoming staff. Great beer, very dog friendly.

P. B.
Most excellent beer selection. Food is inventive. Only downside is how busy the place can be at popular times.
b. p.
Full of boardgames, dogs and very full punters. The Brandling Villa, hands down does the best burgers in Newcastle! Original burger menu, quality produce and very generous portions.
A. N.
Great pub with delicious, but guilty food. They love dogs here, so try asking for a doggy beer or some special treats for your hound!
o.
Been here a few time and it's great every time, a must for any dog owner. Food is great and they have a great dog menu too.
R. J.
Friendly AF. The atmosphere is always lovely, food is tasty and the drinks are varied. The staff are brilliant too, can't fault them :)
h. a.
Burger was ok. Chips were epic. Only getting 3 stars as the only high chair they had was so wobbly it couldn’t be used. Had to juggle the baby while trying to eat my burger!
D. M.
Friendly pub, good beer selection, yummy filling food with vegan options too. Looking forward to returning.
R. B.
