One of Newcastle’s greatest pub. Right amount of history and modern style with a cracking free jukebox. Great choice of beers and really well kept. All the real ales are local and unfined and there’s always a good choice. All the staff are friendly and can’t do enough for you, great in the summer for the outdoor space and brilliant in the winter for cozy open fires.

Good pub, interesting mix of drinks available, and all-vegan menu so the eaters of our group didn't kill fish or pigs and the worldwide environment is better off as a result, in a nutshell. Dog friendly too! 🐶

Sympathetically restored old railway station. Excellent range of beers and friendly helpful staff. This is a vegan pub, we are not and that certainly did not detract from our experience. Perhaps a little off the beaten track but none the worse for that. We will certainly be back when we are in Newcastle.

Had my wedding reception here and honestly was the best day ever! Lee done everything he could to make it perfect everything was spot on, the food was fantastic everyone loved it! A really nice pub, sadly on the day we visited they weren't serving any of the vegan food, so definitely ring ahead to check as we didn't 🙄 It's a good walk from the city centre too but worth checking out. Drinks are a bit on the expensive side but maybe that's city prices for you, I don't know.

We've been here twice now (during the day). Visit 1: The first time we went for drinks as it opened - the staff were prepared for customers unlike some pubs when they "open". Fast service, the guy had good craic Visit 2: food and drinks - one of us is a vegan, so we went back for opening on a Friday- for pub food. We got the burger as well as fish and chips. The burger was very nice- I'd give the rating 5 stars but I have to say the "fish" was a let down. Having eaten at The Ship for many months and thoroughly enjoyed the tofu "fish" I was expecting something on the same level but it seems banana blossom is more chewy and harder to cut which resulted in me leaving some (never left any tofu ;)). I'd probably change this to 5 stars in future when I've eaten everything else in the menu aside from the "fish" - wishing them all success in the new venture! Not my local but it's the only pub in Newcastle that I will sit and sink pints in for hours. Amazing food, staff are lovely and there's always a cute dog or 2 relaxing by a fire. The menu is lovely and the quiz nights are great fun. Free vegan curry that's absolutely delicious and a good vibe all round. Both younger and older groups enjoy the Carriage. Quirky and unique and fun pub with decent beers. The neighbouring train carriage is a different business but adds to the character of the place. This pub is slightly hidden and feels out of the way and like a secret, if you know this place exists on the doorstep of the city center, you’ve got one up on a lot of pub dwellers.

It has one of the most beautiful traditional bars i've seen in Newcastle. Friendly service from the landlord and they had Allendale ale on draft. Refurb goong to happen at the end of Oct but focus will be on retaining traditional features. I'll definitely be coming back.

Really lovely, historic pub with a cosy atmosphere and one of the best beer gardens around, its a real suntrap too. Only glitch is that the prices will take your eyes out - £6.40 for a glass of wine and £3.06 for a half of punk IPA!

FANTASTIC bar and staff. Welcoming paw sign at the door which was perfect as we were hoping for a Sunday lunch with the pooch. Pubs and dogs = match made in heaven if you have a dog that sits with you quietly throughout meal and never bothers other people. Food was excellent, tastiest pub food I’ve had for ages, vegan or otherwise. Good portions served with care by lovely staff who are always super helpful and polite. Nothing too much trouble. And they were nice to our dog.

Lovely, welcoming pub with the most amazing (*warning* HIGHLY MOREISH) chilli chips we have ever tasted! The bar manager is always super friendly and helpful - he dried off the outside seats for us on this visit and on another rescued a friends' phone from the drain! - and their covid preparedness/hygiene precautions are really good. Always a good selection of ales and a lovely open fire at this time of the year. Fast becoming our favorite pub in Newcastle.

Great looking bar after a refurbishment quite recently, retaining or pimping up old school features. The beer is spot on make no mistake and the bar front staff plus gaffer seem absolutely bang on. No max out star allocation here because it allows dogs (like kids, they shouldn't be anywhere near a drinkers bar of any description) I'm not into Vegan food (even though it is without doubt flavour of the times and it might be top quality) and due to its location the vibe in there is steady at best. All this said, you might be in to all I've fired off above, live local so it's convenient or perhaps you fancy a break from the long serving popular bar a few hundred yards away on the top drag. See what you think.

I Wow what a transformation! We have always liked this pub but there has been a new lease of life breathed into it. New seats, a lick of paint, all the quirky fixtures are still there but the place looks and feels very smart, welcoming and comfortable...... Then we noticed the kitchen and guy forming pizza dough and then the food menu. That was when my vegan daughter got very excited. The menu looks great, lots of choice, pizza, mac and cheese for example. Can't wait to sample it

Loved this pub. Used to go all the time. It was really interesting and the guy who owned it collected the most interesting stuff. They went under new ownership and got a much needed facelift and it’s not the same anymore. It’s very standard with better beer and food selection. Before the renovation there wasn’t good choices HaHa! It was part of its charm. It was still packed. The new owners are the people that own the ship in Oseburn. Not horrible but not the same. Still has people in it. I went in on a Friday or something and there was a DJ setup! The food is nice! Nice outside sitting area.

Nice place but shame we had to sit outside .me and my husband went there to celebrate our sons 30th we did offer to sit at separate tables but it was a no no.we were freezing and it wasn't good for me and my husband with being pensioners .what annoyed me was when we were leaving there was people sitting in the pub.was that because they were locals.We would've to come back hear again but I think it would be off putting incase it happens again

The beer was terrible, not well kept, I had two and both tasted like ashtray smells. The pub in itself hasn't changed in 50 years which is both interesting and odd. Nice range of whisky and interesting place though

Dog friendly. The old Jesmond railway station transformed into a cool bar with vintage juke box and a huge choice of beers. Fabby food too only served until 5pm on a Sunday though. Staff are great, super helpful and no issues with samples to choose your perfect pint. Class joint, diamond of a find and totally worth a visit.
