Reviews of The Goose Stonehouse
h. n.
As usual, the carvery was excellent with a huge portion of the meat of my choice. A good selection of vegetables nicely cooked and presented. The John Smith's was dangerously delicious and everything is very reasonably priced. Nice atmosphere and friendly, helpful staff. Nothing here to dislike. I've visited many times and it is consistently good.
E. G.
£8.99 for two courses including the carvery is well worth it, also add 3 pigs in blankets for £1 i was over the moon. Think we didn't go at best of times as veg seemed dry but like i say maybe because it was quiet when we were there and food had been left lying. Good choice of meats and starter was ok.
S. J.
Always have a good time here. Came in today and Cameron was fantastic. Really friendly and chatty and was really helpful when I struggled with a voucher code!! Favourite place for the family to meet up and food is lush too!
T.
Everything was great staff very efficient and friendly. Only one minor gripe two of our group (there was eight of us) didn't have a starter so went first for the carvery. They said theirs wasn't very hot however when the rest of us went it was fine
s. b.
After a day visiting Newcastle we stopped here for tea after booking online.
Some of the group ordered the carvery, that was ok except some of the veg looked like it had sat there all day and had gone dry but the meat was tasty as were the potatoes.
Some of the group ordered off the main menu and these we nice and cooked fresh.
The desserts were very nice.
Apart from the dried out veg we had a nice meal and the staff were very good.
I. M.
Myself and a work colleague popped in by chance for a carvery before work as we needed somewhere quick. Absolutely delicious and the staff are so warm and friendly. Thank you I'm now too stuffed to do my shift LMAO!!!!
R. T.
Nice pub, good atmosphere. Staff were very efficient, not much need to queue for long. Toilets could do with some work, they were a bit whiffy at 2pm 🤢
K. J.
Excellent service great value meals staff very good I have food allergies and everything was explained to me and I was quite happy with the service from ALI staff member he put. him self out the way to make sure we were quite happy with our visit 😊

Wanted a quick meal and expected just pub food but the portions and pizza was second to none. Fresh pizza oven and fresh made pizzas. Then it was 2 for 1 on a Monday
V. R.
I love this bar. It's been one of my favourite bars in town for years. The staff are awesome and the food and drinks are always so good 😁
R. W.

Stunning food and brilliant service.

W. S.
Brilliant food, reasonably priced drinks, great place for the family, excellent bar staff willing to go the extra mile, seen a few reviews about sticky tables don't believe it. This is my 15th visit now and I've watched staff clean then straight after use. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED THIS PLACE for a pint or food.
J. W.

F. B.
Had a lovely time here yesterday.Nice food, nice staff. The lady on the carvery was really friendly and nice, would definitely visit again.
A. S.
They didn't have most of the drinks available on the menu and the tables and bar were sticky... This was unfortunately on an afternoon during the day on a weekday and it wasn't very busy so there was time for the staff to clean. The bar itself is very welcoming and so were the staff so no faults there. Nicely decorated but could be cleaner especially when we are just coming out of a pandemic unfortunately. Hopefully my next visit will be different as i have enjoyed other visits here in the past
C. B.
Beautiful breakfast this morning before we headed off to the airport. Brilliant service from Ally and Tylor! Pizza was amazing

Lovely food, amazing customer service, really friendly service from Kaitlyn-Anne today.
G. C.
We have just returned from our first visit to The Goose stonehouse where we both had a carvery, and i must say it was wonderful. I had roast beef which was as tender and tasty as any roast beef I've ever had before, and my wife had roast Gammon which was equally as tender and flavourful, also we were both served generous amounts of meat. The roast potatoes were excellent and the veg and gravy were both very good. But what made an already superb meal even better was the price, £5.79 each. Then if you download the stonehouse app you can get a further 33% off of your meal, any cheaper and they would be paying you to eat there.
So if you want a really top notch, excellent carvery at a wonderful price give them a try, i know we will be returning, very soon!
P. V.
Lovley bar, nice food, staff Great.
A. W.
Very lovely pub only been a few times but amazing food and drinks had a lovely carvery other day and got some amazing service from rose and another girl caitlin and a young man keep up the good work
t. d.
Tasty food and friendly staff good service can't wait to go again
G. W.
I understand some people are leaving poor reviews based on their own experiences, however please understand that the staff are only human!! I love going to the Goose, i've never personally had a bad experience, and the staff have always been helpful and polite to both me, my family and other customers around me.
The staff go above and beyond to help customers with any issues they are faced with and it is a shame to see the Goose fall victim to negative reviews after 1 or 2 bad days and people I know have been going there for many years and have always returned with a smile on their face and happy with the service they were given.
J. S.
Great atmosphere and very friendly staff. Food was lovely.
S.
Came in for works night out and food was delicious place is very big good for large groups
A. M.
Lovely pub, great staff and the food is beautiful really recommend this place.good value you can't go wrong.
D.
Amazing service and food from the lads. Will definitely be returning!
A. R.
Sometimes it's standing room only as it can get busy here but the beer is good same as the food worth a visit.
S. B.
What a lovely place to dine we had 3 carvery meals it was so delicious we went back the following night thankyou we will be back next time in Newcastle.
S. N.
Fantastic food and staff were excellent well done to them
D. L.
Staff absolutely brilliant especially Lisa, Shiv and reece pleasure to see them every week.
P. M.
Lovely pub, more real ales would be a good thing, 2 were off , so limited ales apart from that really nice pub.
A. O.
Went here for a few drinks with a pal last week. Wasn't sure how it was going to work with the whole table service thing and had visions of sitting waiting ages to catch someone's attention. I couldn't have been more wrong - outstanding service from the minute wee walked in. All staff seemed very young, but their customer service skills were first class.
R. R. (.
I love this place, the staff are great but the place is looking really tired and needs updating.
L. C.
Lovely staff. Always a nice experience. Thank you Kaitlyn x
J. B.
Fine vedge could of been coocked better
C. P.
Visit the goose regularly, always get fab customer service from bartender kaitlin and other members perfect place for a pint and bite to eat. Massive credit to all staff for doing their best during the lift of covid restrictions
j. r.
The service was great, very helpful and friendly. My husband loved his bacon burger. I didn't enjoy the fish so will get the burger next time 😋

E. H.
Friendly nice interior food and service good
C. Y.
Is what it is. A bar with a carvery. Carvery was very nice.
M. W.
Great food great staff. Excellent.
A. D.
Good pub, if you're planning to eat here on matchdays then you're best advised to book a table ahead of your visit.
M. S.
Staff very helpful, food was lovely, especially the desserts!
G. T.
The goose is what it is. Somewhere to go while we wait for the bus. Cheap and cheerful.
K. f.
Kaitlyn-Ann was very friendly and approachable. Very helpful 😊
s. b.
Brilliant food always happy to help
S. H.
The Goose is a hidden gem opposite Eldon Square Bus Station. Good food and drink served by friendly staff and service with a smile. The carvery is a bonus!
M. C.
Food good, service good. but big restaurant plenty of room for everyone, expect to be full when you leave. Good value for money. And don't forget bottomless ice cream for kids, but kid's are at school at lunchtime, so adults can enjoy bottomless ice cream. But don't tell the kid's.
D.
Ok but toilets leave a lot to be desired
J. F.
Great choice, especially a carvery 7 days a week!!! Sadly some of the good was not as hot as it should have been.. the table needed cleaned and there was no cutlery.
It was just after lunch time tho.. really enjoyed the food.
The toilets weren't up to much. No toilet seats on at the first 4 I looked at, could have been a lot cleaner too.. Not a good picture at all.
p.
Nice enough pub and the staff were very pleasant. I had fish and chips and I'm afraid it really was just average. I've had a lot better.
S. F.
Match day and it was extremely busy. Had to wait ages to get a drink and then tables were choka with empty glasses and bottles. Surely the management know what to expect on evenings with home games of football and could have had extra staff to facilitate better service. I heard a few people decide to leave rather than wait to be served. Sad really because it used to be a great bar
m. t.
Quality food, friendly team and a great atmosphere. No matter what the occasion I've never been disappointed 😁
J.
Excellent breakfast, friendly and efficient service, clean and comfortable surroundings.
M. P.
Lovely choice of food on the carvery. Haven't been for a long time nice to come back.
g. m.
We came for Xmas meal veg was dry on the cavery had to wait 15 minutes for fresh veg
N. A.
Good for the prices but each time we have been including yesterday the beef was total grisle and chewy which is a shame as everything else is always good
S. B.
Great food and great atmosphere! I especially liked Rose at the bar! Would recommend and will go again!
T. D.
Great food lovely down to earth staff😊
G. E.
This is the place to go for the gorgeous home cooked meal. The carvery is 10/10 for value & the beer is top notch. Service with a smile.
S. h.
Lovely food but massive waiting time due to being busy
S. W.
Great pub, friendly staff and a lovely carvery. Special thanks to Kyle and Ashleigh. Definitely return again
m. e.
The carvery was piping hot and the queue moved quite quickly. The staff were very helpfull and polite.
C. R.
Recently visited the goose which is a beautiful place for a casual drink and meal I was served by a young lady called rose who was polite and brung great customer service couldn't fault it 5 stars from me
A. M.
Burger was lovely and fresh, very tasty, only thing letting the meal down was the pre-cooked chips kept on the warmer, they were cold and tasteless, would of been much better being cooked to order especially on an evening when there aren’t as many people eating. Service was great and good price. Hannah was there to clear our glasses away so the table was kept clear, plates were cleared away by Mark not long after we finished, so no dirty plates lying around. Would definitely return and recommend.
A.
Good location and size. Good variety of drinks reasonable prices for the city centre. Food is a little bit hit and miss can be fantastic other times it appears to of been cooked and left out for a while. I think this is reflected in the price. Seems to be a more working class bar but overall it's reasonable.
J.
A pub with a large restaurant area, varied menu and carvery. Tv's dotted around with sports playing but the sound low. Level access entrance but someone will need to open the doors for wheelchair users, the top part of the restaurant is level access, find a table and order at the bar. It can get very noisy especially on match day.
D. W.
This was a meal of necessity rather than night out so around 18:30 visited. Partner had battered fish which impressively was fresh cooked and an electronic timer given. However this was let down by cold chips in the food dispenser. This said, asked for new chips which was not a problem for them, but by time they arrived the fish was eaten. In fairness though I had the large carvery, meat was tasty and veggies good. Not overly impressive taking evening as a whole but served it purpose and price was fair!
P. M.
It's okay staff great but a bit grubby with sticky floors and toilets not nice could do with an up date food very good .
K. T.
The carvery was good but they could do with replacing the food more often. There was freshly cooked food ready to go but they were still serving the very last bits from every dish so it wasn't the best quality. The beef and stuffing was quite dry
W. H.
Extremely friendly staff. The price of the alcohol is quite competitive. I couldn't see the standard of the Carvery was wonderful it probably would have been excellent if it had been hot. But it was lukewarm and slightly dehydrated.
S. J.
Large noisy pub with a surprisingly good selection of beers. Never tried the food but judging by how many people eat there it can't be that bad. Nice halfway pub from Haymarket down to central station area. Worth a visit especially if there's a big group of you.
n. h.
Decent food... decent prices
...great staff...
C. W.
It was a nice atmosphere had a nice meal staff where very polite and friendly I think it was Rose I would go again
J. E.
It was a nice atmosphere had a nice meal staff where very polite and friendly I would go again
j. b.
Great meals.staff are fantastic nothing is too much for them
D. H.
One of my favourite venues in Newcastle. The pizzas are bloody amazing and there's a great atmosphere! Been in several times and staff never fail to deliver the most friendly service. Never had a bad visit yet and will definately keep returning.
A. B.
Great table service. Meet and great was outstanding. Food was fab. The only downfall was the long wait for the food.
J. T.
Great pub, good atmosphere, lack of real ales but still a good place for food and drink 👏👏
E. H.
Nice place, good for families. Food is nice and affordable and they've got good deals on. Sunday carvery is tasty and cheap, and you can't beat an all-you-can-eat breakfast for 4.49!! We like The Goose for watching sports, it doesn't get too rowdy 👍
A. M.
Food is always lovely, carvery is very fairly pirced and pizzas are freshly made when you order. Can also get two bottles of beer for £5. Staff are always working hard and friendly, always feel welcome.
S. R.
Food is generic pub menu but is served quickly and hot! Booking may be required as it does get very busy. The staff are very helpful and friendly also. Has excellent disabled facilities.
Z. D.
went here for 1st time on Thursday nice food sadly the buffet style breakfast was missing a few items such as eggs and sausages... due to being on a keto diet I could only eat bacon, which was nice. they operate a 1 plate rule but due to most items not being ready allowed me to go back up about 15 minutes after my bacon for eggs and sausages... however the long wait killed the experience, nice food for a buffet style shame about the wait and lack of food.
G. D.
Nice gin selection. Not had food here, but standard pub fayre. Reasonable prices for food and drinks. It is what it is. Good place to go if you just fancy some cheap drinks with friends.
J. L.
Lovely pub efficient bar staff
B. M.
Great value. Decent carvery. Go early for freshest quality. Remember to check the stonegate app for discounts, and sometimes Halifax card offers cashback if you set it up online first.
B. W.
One of the rare pubs in Newcastle that actually has a wheelchair accessible entrance, wheelchair accessible seating (mixed heights) and an accessible loo (of sorts). Carvery was excellent value for money! Lost one star as the "accessible toilet" is very small - it is used as a baby change area with 2 nappy bins etc in the way of the wheelchair transfer area, making the toilet even smaller. wheelchair users will struggle to get standard size electric wheelchairs into this toilet, and some may not be able to transfer from wheelchair to the toilet if they are lacking dexterity, flexibility and mobility.
H. M.
Not had a bad carvery yet. The baby changing room was disappointing. Had granddaughter out for first time. The toilet was disgusting in changing room. Reported it. Lass very apologetic but had to wait for cleaner coming.
D. S.
Great bar service, advised about the app and received a free drink for father's day. Carvery lunch is ok the veg is a bit blandand over cooked but worth a visit if you need some stodge.
J. M.
Fantastic carvery, Son loved it 💙
L. W.
Nice pub friendly staff
S. J.
Nice staff, clean big pub, decent, pints, decent prices, good pub
C. W.
Great place to have a typical british dish. We had the small menu, and ate so much. Everything was good, and cheap!!!
Self- service food, so it's also very quickly.
p. m.
Have been going to the Goose a long time and love the food, both breakfast and lunch carvery and Carling beer before the match.
Always found the staff really pleasant and friendly....until yesterday....(16 September v Stoke)
Encountered the most ghastly barmaid....and I'm from Glasgow!!!!
It was a wee, fat, girl with a mop of blonde hair...probably 5 feet in height and the same width....what a horrible, rude human being!!
She appeared heavily hung over or on drugs, looked like she'd slept in her clothes, seriously in need of a bath.
Rude does not really begin to do her justice...my impression was that she was revelling in being obnoxious and God forbid she is one of the supervisors or managers but there were plenty staff so either the managers are inept or more likely scared of her.
She spent time complaining about other staff, management, customers, shifts...anything but serve customers in a civil fashion which the rest of the staff do brilliantly.
I very rarely rant about service staff as I am one and I know dealing with the public is a demanding...but she was just awful.
I would tell you her name but the name on her badge on the blouse, seriously in need of attention, was handwritten and illegible. It may have been "Carolyn" or "Carolina" or "Caroline" or some foreign word meaning "ghastly"
Paul
...
W. R.
Great spot for food or pint before and after the match. Not too many pubs where you can mix home and away fans and have a good atmosphere and no trouble. Staff are friendly too
C. H.
Went here for sunday lunch. It was a match day. Very loud and rude people in. Food was fine but not enough places to sit. There should be more tables available on match days for people to eat their meals. I was relieved to get out as soon as id eaten as it was si noisey and busy. Will definitely not return again on a match day.
g. t.
Absolutely lovely carvery, as always, and with the ' help out to eat out ' it's like stealing lovely food. Friendly staff and very willing and happy to help with all your needs.
M. B.
Splendid Friday night evening spent in the Goose (Newcastle) service was nothing but spectacular, staff were friendly and approachable. Food was quick and delightful, the Turkey was taste bud tantalising and the new ciders in the fridge washed this down perfectly. We will be back next week. Thank you to the Team Goose.
M. H.
Amazing place with lovely staff. Food is quick and delicious and all at a very reasonable price and with happy staff it all in all was a very good place to be. And they now have daily deal offers
R. W.
Good carvery. Value for money. And close to st james' park
L. P.
Went in today for lunch with my 1 year old twins and my 2 older children staff could not of been more accommodating very friendly and polite nothing was a bother carvery was amazing and very well priced as was the food we ordered from the rest of the menu. Desserts wer also amazing as wer the drinks cud not fault this pub at all well done the goose and it’s staff 👌
S. B.
Food wasn't great, burgers we're ok but the self service chips & salad was rank. Chips was really soggy & the salad looked like it had been sat out for hours. Not somewhere I'd rush back to.
S. L.
We usually go for the Sunday Carvery, and it never disappoints. Great service too. This is a family pub, so expect kids to be in, but generally a good experience.
s. m.
Very comfortable and a great atmosphere
M. L.
Was in over Magic Weekend and the atmosphere was awesome. Rugby fans from all the teams playing at St James sat having a laugh, food and drinks with each other. The games were played on the many tvs including the huge projector screen. The Goose is a great place to go to watch sport and grab a bite to eat and a few beers while your at it. Service was quick and staff seemed to be enjoying the day as well🍺🍕
S. A.
Went with my husband on a Groupon deal for a carvery and pint. Plenty of tasty meat and vegetables to eat but as in most pubs lately the beer, Doombar, was very very cold.
J. S.
Food was excellent and good value, especially for students. Download student beans to get discount on the carvery. A nice bar, spacious and suitable for a range of generations
T. H.
Nice pub friendly staff with good food. Avoid match days when the football types want to get as much drink down their necks as possible and the place gets too crowded and the music's too loud.
j. j.
Good place clean cheap its a positive 99% space most time for food
J. E.
Excellent food & great prices especially in conjunction with a deal / promotion - one of if not the best Stonehouse Establishment i have visited in last 12 month's nationwide.
K. S.
Nice pub, open and airy.
T. D.
Bit run down, staff were nice and the carvery was lovely, just wish they would fix main door so the smoke from cigarette didn't come in and choke you.
T. P. S.
Very busy friendly pub/carvery. Food was great
C. P.
Had a loving atmosphere with sound on for the cricket and football qualifiers. Also has lovely well price pints and a steaming hot Carvery and approachable team.
T. G.
top notch beer. Good bar definitely be back
D. D.
Nice place for a pint, plenty of choices and nice staff, this was the first time I've been in and took a bit time to get served but this was down to the match just finishing but the staff coped very well with it..
W. I.
Food was cold. The barmaid (Kim) was excellent. I would have given 5 stars for her if we'd only gone for a drink
P. F.
Cheap and cheerful best in town
t.
lovely carvery, decently priced drinks
G. C.
Great place for a few drinks. The food did look really nice. Will have to come back to try it out.
K. M.
Went in yesterday afternoon about 6 ordered a carvery when we went up to get it everything was dry the meat and the vegetables I asked about fresh but they said they were not filling back up I was disappointed to say the least usually it's lovely and staff helpful . It was only 6 can't understand why you serve food so dry .
P. c.
Great place to watch the match.
G. S.
Raw caulifower. Raw onion. Mashed potato like wall paper paste rock hard frozen yorkshire pudding bone dry turkey. What a shame as it is a nice cosy pub with a good atmosphere in a good location. Dose the food not get checked before serving.
We wont return
Pull your socks up chef
.
S. B.
It's a big room with okay beer, and cheap Scran. You know what you're gunna get.
That's a semi-geriatric Wetherspoons.
Decent place if you're looking for a place to wait for the train. You could take your nan, but I wouldn't take my mum.
R. T.
Lovely place for food and drinks
L. H.
Amazing service and staff, food was absolutely amazing thank you chefs :)
D. C.
One of the best places on a Saturday to follow the football scores and action. Food is quickly delivered to your table and separated nicely from the bar area.
M. G.
Duggy jr, wicked service m9
E. A.
Great food, morning breakfast buffet was really cheap and had a good selection of food. Evening food also good with reasonable prices, drinks great too.
G. W.
Basic Carvery. Food was lovely and so cheap
E. X.
The atmosphere was great! Staff were extremely friendly and welcoming and the food was amazing! Would definitely visit again.
N. D.
Cheap but not necessarily clean bar. Food good value.
D. W.
I come here all the time with friends/family Fantastic place, great value for money, tasty food and the carveries are amazing, especially the breakfasts.
A. W.
Literally the best carvery on the planet, I visited this place far too often during uni I practically turned into a gammon myself. Food is amazing and cheap, staff are lovely, really handy location too.
C. M.
Went for the carvery just over £5 for meal 3 meats and sausage plus loads of veg and not forgetting gravy good value being going to this pub for years now owned by Stonehouse group which has pubs nationwide, good atmosphere as they have good selection of 80s/90s music in background playing or you use jute box, nice big pub with sky sports
j. m.
Really good top class service, good food EXCEPT on carvery the beef was 1/3 meat and 2/3 fat....when it gets to that stage its time to change the joint...this lost you a star
D. D.
Ali, excellent service and great atmosphere
R. B.
Went for breakfast with my son. It was delicious only item we weren't keen on was the sausage. Very good quality and excellent staff.
T. M.
Excellent place for food and not expensive and really good quality with cheap alcohol nothing else to say brilliant
R. M. (.
Excellent pub, with more than excellent food.

Love this place carvery is amazing when ever I go to newcastle it's always a debate to go to the goose or somewhere else bit the goose is always 1 of 2 places that I choose from and it's always the goose that comes out on top with all the food places in Newcastle i think.that days it all really staff are helpful and friendly and it's always a good atmosphere

The goose used to be my first port of call after every home game but since stonehouse took it over the price of larger has gone up a lot in the past year or so I'm afraid to say I won't be going in there very much now when I can get a cheaper pint next door exactly the same brand I drink if the students can get discount on there drinks why cant the regulars on a Saturday surly the regulars are more important than students who only spend twenty quid to what the regulars spend sorry to say this but a good pub but getting to expensive in my eyes
P. M.
Food not as good as it used to be. We also sometimes have to wait for meat to finish cooking. Still, it's cheap and cheerful.
