B. M.this place has been my go to pub for the last 5 years or so. Great student bar but also great for non students too. Good selection of drinks at a decent price, decent food and probs my favourite beer garden in newcastle
I. D.Nice bar, though it is very student oriented so can be loud if you were after a quieter place. Food is great and food selection on drinks, staff are great, however I would pick your times to go there.

The drinks are reasonably cheap as well considering the location.
Other people who drink there are usually lovely as well but can sometimes get quite busy so you might struggle to find a seat.
Lots of things to do near this as well such as visiting the Hancock museum.
There is both indoor and outdoor seating, some of the outdoor seats have heating for during the colder months.
Would highly recommend!
T. J.Pizzas are fantastic, too much to finish so we had to take away, this wasn’t a problem and they accommodated us straight away. Guinness was very good also.

N. A.Discovered this pub today which is right next to the main Newcastle uni libraries. A group of new (mature) students for a quick weekday lunch and the deals they have on food are great. They have a two meals for 7.50 offer on which includes fish and chips, bangers&mash and scampi. They have another offer which a meal for £4 which i opted for choosing a beef mince pie with chips, gravy and peas. I can wholeheartedly recommend this meal - the pastry on the pie was the right thickness and had a lovely consistency - mince and gravy was delicious. My friends had the burger, hunters chicken and pastrami toastie - all were recommended and looked good. I paid £1.71 for a large coke but that was after a 10% student discount was applied.
The vibe of the pub is nice - clean with pool/table football. The vibe is definitely student but not in a bad way - no griminess here though admittedly i didnt get a chance to inspect the ladies room.
Come here for delicious food at great prices and warm chilled (but studenty) vibe.

The food is good pub fare at reasonable prices with veggie options even salads too. The staff are warm friendly and efficient cutting the right line between friendly and on the ball. Would recommend to anyone. But shh! I like the speakeasy feel so shan't shout too LOUD!

S.Best bar and beer garden in Newcastle by a long shot, even had the 50% off food on bank holiday Monday, pizzas were to die for, we booked a table online and were greeted by someone who looked after our every needs. Very safe and following all social distancing guidelines, well done, brilliant visit.

J. R.I first hit this bar some ten or more years ago. I thought it was an absolutely terrible dive, though the place appeared to be very well populated with punters. I've just returned here once again, the first time since my original visit and it has excelled ten times in quality! Having undergone a refurbishment throughout, it's far tidier and well presented. I've not yet sampled the grub, but the beers are sound, with a respectable choice of 'hip' craft ales including contributions from Tyne Bank Brewery, plus the usual standard lagers. I noticed pizza is available to take out too. There's a few big projectors with live sports on which definitely appeals to me. Whilst it's not going to be a regular stop off for me here, I shall certainly be back.

G.A truly great little city sports bar, it has a fantastic atmosphere even though it's location is bizarre for city dwellers, it's close to the uni and is in turn surrounded by students and more often than not, is often chock full of the little critters, but it's good and does top notch gastro dining done right, the pool table could use a refurb. But hey.

A. L.The Handcock is mint. They work hard to keep a bunch of different people well canny. You should probably go there if you're about as it'll likely be decent. I know that's kind of a roundabout way of saying they're a Jack of all trades master of none, but that's not what's important here.
What's important here is that if you're having a bad time at the Handcock it's probably not the Handcock's fault. And that's why you should go, cos you're good people, and good people be at the Handcock. Well done everyone. 🙇
