Reviews of The Victoria Comet
N. T.
Nice traditional pub - called in mid afternoon on a Sunday and was pretty quiet. Good range of drinks and meals reasonably priced although we didn't eat on this occasion. Will definitely try it again...
D. M.
Handily located pub for the station and arena. They had a discount for arena ticket holders on my visit which was good of them. Staff were all friendly, especially the bar man (Ollie) and the female manager (can't recall her name). Fairly good selection of ales available on cask and keg. Good choice of food available. Food was ok, nothing special but nothing to complain about either. Well decorated and traditional feel.
T. Y.
Marvelous time tonight at The Victoria Comet! Wild boar and chorizo pie was sumptuous and my wife’s chicken salad sandwich was enormous. Beers were perfect and the bar staff was fantastic. Highly recommend!
P. L.
Great pub opposite the main Railway Station! Food was superb! I had the Toad In The Hole and my Wife had the Halloumi Fries with Chicken Strips. There was also a great choice of beers and the friendly staff made it an excellent stop! Happy days!! Also as a tip, sign up to Nicholson’s Pubs and you will get 25% off your first visit…..👍
T. C.
Busy but efficient city pub. Hard working and helpful staff meant no hold ups. Varied and reasonably priced menu. Food was superb. Highly recommended
D. J.
Needed a quick bite to eat after a long drive. Food was great, staff were helpful and pleasant. So good, we came back a couple of hours later and did jagerbombs!!
K. F.
Busy pub across from the train station. Football was on the TV and the Peroni beer was good.
S. L.
Visited Wednesday night and Beck's and her colleague made us feel very welcome and made the evening. Good luck Beck's with the theatre career. Pub just smashing.
j. w.
Lovely hotel in a great location with professional and friendly staff, the room and breakfast was excellent, I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Newcastle.
C. G.
Popped in today for a catch up with an old vet pal, had a lovely day, great drinks, great atmosphere and Jade was amazing, very accommodating!
Will definitely come again
J. G.
Very nice pub, great food and drinks choice.
Excellent location right next to central station
J. P.
would of been better if it sold NEWCASTLE BROWN apparently it doesn't because it's near the train station and gets a lot of people from all over so why not introduce them to Newcastle brown
A. B.
Always been a great bar for beer. Can't fault the place. Never tried the food but the pie last night looked decent.
S.
Friend staff and lovy range of beers. Also dog friendly, perfect 🙂
R. C.
Its a bit expensive for Newcastle & they didnt have any John Smiths beer Only craft ales
A. C.
Decent enough pub and excellently located for the train station which is a few meters away. Haven't tried the food so can't comment on that.
A. M.
Good pub nice beers and top food had the steak and ale pie with mash, carrots, peas, cabbage and gravy
b. w.
Beccy was sound we had a nice laugh and she treated me well, the chef was also very nice, recommended a few pints and was a good Convo, would recommend this place friends.
D. F.
Great pub great atmosphere and lovely attentive staff. Decent clientell also.would reccmend this pub to everyone
S.
Nice pub that's right across the street from the train station. Steak pie was very good. Lots of wood panelling all around. You order and pay at the bar (food and drinks)
R. M.
great old style pub with friendly staff will
Definitely go again when I next visit Newcastle 👍
D. A.
Fab place straight outside main hub of the city a really nice place friendly owner and cheerful colleagues he has and out side sitting in hot days..
F. S.
Nice pint, staff and comfortable
P. B.
Great pub with a great selection and friendly staff. Would recommend.
G. J.
Fantastic food and a really nice atmosphere. The selection of drinks available is very satisfactory and the bar staff are very nice. A lad called Ollie served me and was brilliant, serving me very efficiently and he was always happy to answer my queries.
G. B.
Kids not allowed in, drinks very expensive. Other than that it's fine, but there are much better pubs in the Central Station area.
M. B.
Becks and Laura gave us great service pulling pints and waiting on at our table, the food was fantastic will be returning.
N. P.
Good range of beers. Usually busy enough to have an atmosphere without being overbearing.
P. K.
Chain bar, nice pint of real ale, friendly staff, across road from station. Does food which is good but bit pricey for what you can get within 5 minutes walk. Still a good bar.
A. L.
The service was quick but my pint of cider was quite flat but the other pint we ordered was fine. Our food came out quick, and tasty. The service we had was really nice and friendly and was a great location for the train station.
K. N.
Good bar with a mix of home and away fans on match days. Soon as your out of the station, straight ahead.....
F. A.
Gorgeous place! Amazing staff including the doormen, both super friendly and approachable, the pub itself is beautiful and a wide selection of drinks
R. O.
Nice place for a pint and a football game. Very friendly staff
3.
Nice atmosphere, sharp bar staff, clean and a good range of beers. A nice place to be.
A. R.
Good beer and a great breakfast. proper old pub
A. O.
Alright pub, didn't really notice anything special about it, but close to the station and good for a drink.
S.
Nice pub, not a bad pint but felt a bit unfriendly of a place
L. J.
Excellent service and bex was helpful and a right good crack would come again for sure
d. j.
Very friendly and competent staff. I was very impressed with their attention to track and trace and measures for infection control. Obviously table service but very fast and efficient service. Plenty of TVs to watch the footie. Would highly recommend.
B. B.
A good selection of real ales and a Camra discount.
P. L.
Nice welcoming pentameter a long train journey
P. 1. s. n. 3. D. s. S.
Pie and a pint before genesis .....
Met and served by Danny great polite repour on beer choices and food availability, couldn't do enough for us superb customer service,. He should own his own pub I hope one day......
We will be returning
R. G.
Breakfast before catching train home nice enough could have been a bit hotter my only complaint.
A. B.
Nice music. Great location to start a Saturday morning.
L. E.
Great friendly pub with helpful barstaff
M. B.
Julie was amazing very helpful. Definitely would come back x
D. G.
Nothing special but had the football on lots of TVs so ideal for watching a game.
J. R.
Lovely classy place! Nice staff
J. M.
Lovely pub first time we have visited. When we were greeted the manager was quite abrupt but we did manage to get a table just for a drink. We felt like we were not welcome and the table was needed for people only eating so we only had one drink and left. Others who were not booked were not greeted very nice. I understand it is a stressful time for the staff and customers but she could have been more friendly towards people
K. Z.
Only visiting Newcastle but this place is brilliant. Food was amazing, nice selection of beers! 😁
C. B.
A nice pub that you can visit as a single person
G. J.
Good bar. Nice beer
B. H.
Nice place for a quick drink before catching a train, staff were lovely but the toilet floor was very wet and could have done with a quick dry mop to get rid of the puddles.
S. S.
Lovely friendly staff, food not bad and good atmosphere
D. L.
Good pint and friendly staff.
L.
Great friendly place. Food was delicious. Best breakfast I have had in a long time.
B. B.
Spot on. Nice Bar with a huge offer of beers and liquor. Friendly service. One you can't skip while visiting Newcastle.
J. R.
Good bar indeed. I don't hit the place much really, maybe three or four times a year because I don't drink regularly in town anymore.
It's a tidy looking venue, very traditional looking both inside and out.
There are many beers to choose from plus the menu is varied with loads of choice. As ever with most city central bars it is not cheap, but prices are fair on comparison with other joints of this calibre. It's great if you are heading to the station opposite and need a transportation stiffener, or indeed if you're gagging for a beer after your journey (on a no doubt severely delayed train) you can sprint in turbo style.
N. G.
A very comfortable and relaxing place to stop before the train journey to London.
Great whiskey.
D. L.
Opposite. Newcastle rail station.Stopped here to watch rest of Wales football match, decided to eat,few things not available off menu, settled for burger, they had run out of lettuce and gerkins, but extra tomatoes put in,nicely presented and enjoyed.Staff very friendly and courteous too.
P. W.
Great place, boss looked after us well
m. g.
Good atmosphere, food looked good, I would say a drinkers pub.
H. T.
Great place to watch the football and enjoy a few pre and post match drinks. Decent food too.
A. H.
Nice friendly pub, shame the toilets were not very clean but it was a bust Saturday and it's located right near the station so lots of customers
E. B.
Nice traditional pub - called in mid afternoon on a Sunday and was pretty quiet. Good range of drinks and meals reasonably priced although we didn't eat on this occasion. Jade was brilliant, will definitely come again!
n. “. C. c.
ok I dident enjoy the food.
Hunter chicken we both got and both felt the same way.
but the price was very good and place it self is a great centrel location and clean.
maybe it is possable we just the wrong item on the menu on the wrong day.
so If in the area I'd like to see other people's feed back
T. B.
Nice pub right opposite the train station. Has some really nice beers and a lively atmosphere
M.
Top pub catered for its clients very well thank you. It must be pleasent to have nice visitors rather than the feral locals
C.
It was the closest pub from the station just over the road. Had some decent beers on and was clean.
t.
Well located pub, food was decent and staff were friendly and accomodating.
S. S.
There's nothing really offensive about the pub and it's convenient as a meeting place or quick pit stop since its opposite the train station. The staff are always crack up a bit of a conversation with you which is often missing in chain pubs. The seating area out the front is glorious in the afternoon but loses the sun in the night. It doesn't really put me off however be prepared to be bothered by people asking for change of you're sitting out the front.
j.
I deduct a star only because the prices are as bad as London and its newcastle! However the staff were amazing and the food was really good!
D. B.
Bit pricey but a nice pint
D. A.
Great meeting place off the train opposite Central Station. Clean and upmarket. Good range of drinks. Only 4 stars as I have other bars I prefer for a night or day out but VC is nearly always one of them if I get the train down.
S. C.
Good bar, loved the bartender who likes the Highland park.
L. R.
Good atmosphere and good wine. 👍
G. S.
Very good social distancing rules. Great table service and a great pint or 2 of Guinness. Oh and to top it all off Bruce Springsteen music playing in the background
F. K.
Nice food and good value for money
A. E.
Average bar slightly expensive but it is opposite train station
d. g. (.
Nice pub 👌 not my local as I live in Brighton
R. H.
Friendly helpful staff. Good range of drinks at reasonable prices for its location.
a.
Nice relaxed place and very handy for the train station. However, not particularly suitable for a quiet chat when it starts to fill up as it becomes really loud and echo-ie so you have to really shout across the table! Otherwise a good place to hang out for a pint and decent pub grub
A. J.
Was clean nice staff. But Expensive.
M. E.
Staff very helpful and friendly. Very clean and comfortable. Drinks a bit expensive but very nice.
G. S.
Clean a spacious pub with great location opposite Newcastle Central Station. Sandwiches were good quality, tasty and value for money. Friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere. Would recommend for a quick bite or to taste a broad selection of cask ales.
H. F.
A nice enough gastropub, very near the train station. Good selection of beers and very decent food in a pleasant and comfortable environment. The coffee was a little mediocre and the staff weren't super friendly but it was generally fine. Definitely a decent shout for the very reasonably priced breakfast and lunch.
G. D.
Very good service at the bar with very good staff recommend this public house too anyone visiting newcastle
H. O.
Great staff lovely pub
R. G.
Very nice bargain breakfast
S. S.
Always come in here for pre-gig drinks. The bar staff are always lovely and very accommodating.
M. M.
Great food, good beer. And thank you to Bethany and Laura for great service with a smile.
A. C.
Fantastic place as always, great drinks, staff always welcoming and plenty sport on tv's
G. R.
Loved the atmosphere here food was great and our waitress Jess was so kind and helpful.
K. C.
My local and I absolutely love it. The staff are very friendly. Price isn't too bad given that it's in the city centre. You can also get discounts on their ales by downloading the Hop Circle app from the Google Play Store.
L. G.
Ordered food not long before closing time so was grateful for that. However, nachos were almost 10 pounds and were pretty disappointing. They weren't even warm and no proper cheese. The other food we ordered was ok.
C.
I've not eaten there yet, but it can be pleasant to sit outside and watch the people coming and going from the station. Remember the film Get Carter? Michael Caine comes out of the station and into this pub. Worth a visit for that reason alone.
C. C.
Plenty of screens to watch sport. Busy but service was fast. Good selection of drinks. Also just across the street from the train station so good for commuters
j. k.
Great service from staff. Menu is ok and fair selection of wine and beer to choose from
C. T.
Nice atmosphere, good pint served my Ollie
M. B.
Lovely find. Will come here again
P. H.
Not been in before and am only in Newcastle for a concert with my wife. She was hungry when we got off the train. Didn't want fast food so pumped for this. So glad we did
Nice feel to the pub, comfy and lovely food. If in Newcastle again. I know where I'll come.
A. H.
I have been to several nicholoson pubs in edinburgh and really enjoyed the food and selection of ales and staff. So thought I would try Victoria comet, the food was lovely the ale was lovely and the staff really nice. We are going back to sample the sausages yum yum
A. m.
Great pub, sat outside in sunshine. Staff were attentive & pleasant!
S. P.
Shame real ales are not looked after properly....two different drinks sent back, cloudy as hell and rank taste. Changed for very over chilled basic ale. Avoid if you like real ale and head round the corner to The Forth.
L. S.
Efficient service with a good selection of food and drinks. My only fault is a certain smell to the place...cannot put my finger on it but I've noticed it at each visit. Possibly just my sense of smell.
I. “. M.
Good space, tall tables and snug. Good selection of ales, lagers and spirits. Worth a pop over the road from the train station for a great pint of Guinness. A happy place.
L. A.
Luvly staff and quik service and good food
A. M.

G. D.
Good choice of beers.
J. J. S.
Ideal stop for food and a drink before your train. Plenty selection of drinks. Fish finger sandwich was delicious. Mac and Cheese a bit of a let down. Reasonably priced.
C. S.
Great place for a bite to eat the team were lovely and the food was great. Alan behind the bar was great really chatty and welcoming really made us feel welcome would reccomend anyone coming to Newcastle to try it.

Called in for breakfast first thing on a Sunday. Food was reasonable, but service a bit slow. Would probably have been quicker to walk up to Wetherspoons.

Lovely pub, friendly staff.
J. B.
Great location, and beautiful views. Service was quick, but could be a bit more attentive to customers when orders are made for drinks.
M. W.
Generally all right, just the rib eye steak was a little fatty. Getting disturb with 'is food ok' if it wasn't the staff would of known.
