S. 9.Brilliant food. Perfect location for festival goers. I had the Fish n Chips and Hunters Chicken and Bacon. Incredible chef. Convenient for attending the Isle of Wight festival as it is a 5 minute walk from the entrance
M.We were looking for somewhere to have breakfast and found the Bargeman's Rest, it's a bit of a quirky drive to get there through an industrial estate, but once there it was fine and nice location. Food was good and top end of reasonably priced. Great traditional English pub interior. Would use again.
S. F.Fantastic Venue. We held our Wedding Reception and Evening reception here and we could not fault it. Jen and the team were brilliant. Always to hand to deal with everything we asked. The food supplied was great and portions were very generous. Would 100% recommend. Food, Staff, Facilties and View!
A. M.Very cool nautical decor adorns this riverside pub. They offer a good selection of beers and ciders, there is plenty of room for private functions, and a large patio to enjoy a drink outside. The food is moderately priced pub fare and the portions are enormous!
T.A very cute pub on the water in Newport. We had lunch here during a bike ride from Ryde across the east of the island. The fish pie for lunch was very heavy and I didn’t like the veggies it came with - tasted like plain frozen veggies from Lidl. Food is not amazing here or the best quality but the setting and customer service and drinks made up for it.

We couldn't believe the portion sizes when the meals came out. I didn't finish my main coz I wanted dessert and the crumble was also delicious! Fast service as well, despite being packed.
W. A.Great country pub! The staff are great, the food is homely and comes in very generous portions and the riverside location is super. There's a couple of good local beers on along with the usual suspects and a good selection of cocktail options if that doesn't float your boat.

D. N. H.Very nice pub! The gammon steak was perfectly cooked along with everything else. The staff were nice and their customer service skills were awesome. I will be back next time I travel to the Isle Of Wight. The view of the river from the pub is also nice.
T. e.Came here for a colleagues birthday. Was very busy. Had a spicy vegetarian burger, it came with a small salad and chips, was very nice food, tasted really good. Our food arrived quickly. Service was good. Worth a visit. Family and dog friendly. Great atmosphere. You can sit outside if you prefer. Toilets were clean as well. Recommend.
i. w.The Bargeman's Rest is a favourite old haunt which I keep coming back to. Cosy and characterful, this is a great pub for food anytime of year. Also the boast a good selection of ales and spirits. Great for a lunch date with a friend. It can get busy at peak periods so always a good idea to book to avoid disappointment.

Beautiful and authentic inside, and a fair amount of seating outside overlooking the river. Although we did not have food, it looked and smelt good, but we had already eaten both times!

D. l. j.Stopped by whist on holiday using the local mechanic Vectis Cars and whilst waiting we had a spot of lunch. Kids had fish fingers and chips and macaroni. We shared a portion of chios and a bagatt chicken ceasar with drinks including small wine. 2 pints of soda and lime and fruit.shoots. 36.quid. fold is amazing. Proper food. Would highly recommend. Great location too. Toilets were clean.

R. S.The Bargeman's Rest is a public house and restaurant that deserves the highest recommendation. The pub is beside the river and is a long building and inside is a treasure trove of nautical memorabilia, to view it all would take a very long time. The staff provide an excellent level of service, being friendly and efficient. The food served was of top quality and quantity. There was an absolute minimum wait for the food to be delivered to table, my party had four different meals ordered and all arrived within seconds of each other.
Toilets clean and well maintained.
I totally recommend the Bargeman's Rest to all.

good selection of drinks & fairly good meal, but sadly some of our order (lasagne) had been under the pass lights too long & gone crispy 😢
but...the meal was swiftly replaced & the service was excellent; so the lasagne issue was a one off.
here youll find a relaxing atmosphere, lots of sailing/boat/navy related items on show.

J. k.My jolly goodness lord! What an experience I had. The conversation I had with the two gents behind the bar was absolutely amazing. Made me feel so welcome and got my liver crying out for more. Believe their names were Chris and theo and will most definitely be returning because of them.

Just one of the managers obviously a bit stressed with the pace of a busy evening, so a bit short, whilst helpful, such a shame. Great food, but took a while to order, others were served more quickly. This is not a normal experience as it is usually very slick and normally an absolute 5 star experience.

I. O.This place is well worth a visit for drinks but mainly for the food. Local ales are sold but the food is proper great. I had fish and chips today but my friends had the ultimate burger(3 burgers, egg, bacon, mushroom) and chips and some green stuff on the side. My fish was substantial but tasted great too. Deffo coming back!

I found out after I queued at bat for 10 mins had to go elsewhere then queue at bar for another 10 to 15 mins long enough I just got back with drinks when food arrived

The food is excellent every time, surprising how quick it arrives, too hot some times. Love the home made pie but it's to large to finish. Would prefer a half portion but they don't do them.
Relaxing atmosphere & good interesting decor.
Yes the drinks are priced a bit high but it's a better standard than Wetherspoons & more choice.
Parking can be a bit hard but dead easy if you have your own boat !
Give it a try don' t think you will be disappointed unless it's a mince beef pie. :-)

The beers are well kept and there is a large selection of ales, lagers and ciders.
Local beers as well as more well known ones are served alongside a wide variety of wines.

S. D.The Bargemans has river views, fine food and good selection of ales. I would've given it 5 stars, but being on the main walking track they do allow dogs inside. And we had a nasty experience the evening we visited. A dog peer on the floor. The staff were there quickly to clear it up and apologized. It's not the sort it f thing you want when you're about to eat. And there is an outdoor area.

P. T.Called with our parents when we stayed in Newport. We had a wheelchair and could get around very well. So many meals to pick from and all home made, the size of the meals where so big. The staff were all so helpful and after going for the first night we went back every night even thou we had to drive there from our hotel. Can't understand how some reviews moan about the size and having to wait....if it's fast it been pinged. Thanks you from all of us and hope to see you again.

The food is always good, the portions are generous, the bar is always sensibly priced and there is plenty of seating available. Can be very busy at certain times due to its popularity. Evenings with live music also make for a great atmosphere.
O. V.Lovely little place to sit and have a bit of grub and a drink. Food is not prepared particularly well but hey it's pub grub... Drinks are great and it's a nice place to be, staff are friendly and there is a limited amount of free parking.
