Reviews of The Bell Inn

Extremely nice food, the Fish and Chips (haddock) was so moist and tender, served with chip shop curry sauce.
Friendly staff.
Nice pub, recommended 👌🏻

First time eating here and will defo return very soon!
A small evening dinner menu but everything sounded (and looked) delish!
We opted for the sautéed mushrooms and house bread with marmite butter, both super tasty. And for main we had the burger which was enjoyed and the yeast baked cauliflower with butter bean mash which was different and full of flavour - lots of places often don’t make much effort with the veggie option so this was a real treat!
The desserts sounded lovely but just didn’t have any room for them so next time!
Also was a lovely atmosphere and the best most attentive and friendly services.
K. S.
Very friendly and helpful staff, great local ales and the food is exceptional! Big compliments to the chef! Our stake was cooked to perfection, delicious starters with unique twists and overall the food looked and tasted like it's been cooked with love and skills :)
H. M.
Enjoyed a fantastic Sunday lunch together as a group of 6. The pub was busy and the staff were attentive and welcoming. Food was absolutely brilliant and cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend to all.
T. S.
Fabulous afternoon being looked after by the team here for a wake. The food was outstanding and they serve my favourite beer too - Timothy Taylor Landlord! What more could you want?
T. W.
I’m not usually a fan of pub Sunday dinners. But our meal at the Bell was one of the best roasts we’ve had. Really enjoyed it
N. W.
Great little pub off the main road. Marvellous service and the Sunday dinner was exemplary. Booking highly recommended.
T. O.
A really lovely Sunday roast, bit too much meat would be the only criticism, but we took leftovers home and the dog was very happy.
d. m.
Just had an absolutely beautifully cooked lamb and an amazing side of chunky fries, my other half had the Cajun chicken which was equally tasty. It was topped off with a lovely desert of a chocolate brownie etc . All in all we thoroughly recommend dining here.
R. S.
One of the best Sunday Roasts we've had in a while. Confit Lamb for me was amazing and the sides were great too.
H. F.
Can’t recommend this pub enough. Food was fabulous, hubby had a steak burger from lunch menu and thought it tasted great and was cooked to his liking. I had linguine from the veggie menu which tasted great. We took our dog #ZacTheDoberman with us as a friend had said it was dog friendly. Dog friendly doesn’t do it justice - there was a dog menu which would suit large or small dogs. Zac had the Rawhide shoe and Pupcake, it was so nice that he had his own food so wasn’t pestering us for our food. The owners and staff were friendly and so helpful. Very customer focused especially if you are of the canine variety. Lots of walks and interesting things to do in the area too. Can’t wait to return.
A. G.
Not our first visit, but first time we'd had lunch here - it was delicious and reasonably priced. Nice to see something a bit different on the menu (I had a delicious chicken "naanwich"). As ever, a very warm welcome for our pooch. Lovely staff.
S. H.
Really lovely pub. Great outside space and friendly service
S. C.
Very friendly staff, and a lovely courtyard garden for four sweaty cyclists to cool off after a long ride.
Perfectly kept Wye Valley Ales.
Thank you 😊
L. H.
Amazing food, plenty off road parking. Friendly staff. Definitely dine again.
P. D.
Good selection of beer and ales. Food was delicious well presented. Nice pub will visit again
A. D.
First visit and not the last we came for Sunday lunch it was full you need to book the set Sunday lunch is adequate for most people the main point is the two women who run it no what their doing and it shows the chef owner clearly can cook very good.
well done the bell
V.
Great little pub! Sunday roast was great and staff were very accommodating. Will definitely return.
N. K.
Fond memories but been a while since I was here. Good to find a shady dog friendly corner in the beer garden and a great pint of Timothy Taylors Landlord
D. B.
Great country pub, lovely beer garden. Has a fantastic selection of ciders, about 9. Bar snacks are brilliant with homemade pork scratching. Interior decor is rustic and comfortable.
D. G.
Wonderful welcome from Mel, put everyone at ease with her warm smile and lovely character. Location is nice and out of the way, parking easy and the dog was treated like a king. The food and beer are well thought out, lovely experience. The dog and the wife wants to go back soon. Thank you Mel. Keep smiling it makes all the difference.
P. O.
Sunday lunch was nice, but nothing special. Staff were friendly and service pretty good
P. D.
Great family and staff were, as always, pleasant and helpful 👍
Food was spot on too 👌

It is enjoyable to have quiet, pleasant and a lively Saturday night out at the Bell Inn in Caerleon. The atmosphere is fashionably traditional to the Welsh pub and grill. Especially the ornaments at the windowsill. That also includes a local friend who is a black cat named Sooty. The food was spectacular and tender. I do enjoy the Japanese appetite of Chicken Katsu Skewers as it was. For the main course, I was enjoy the taste of two fish goujons, charred courgette and pea puree. This is one of the best Welsh pubs I have enjoyed for 5 stars and I'm happy to come back again.
A. W.
Had a great Valentine's set menu meal here. The chefs clearly know what they are doing and the staff are accommodating too. Cosy and rustic pub environment with a gastro/restaurant menu. Will be back to eat from the regular menu soon. And the pub is very dog friendly!
P. M.
Excellent food staff friendly nice setting and decor highly recommend
S. N.
Absolutely lovely meal with a brilliant host, highly recommend
D. A.
Always amazing food and top service. One of the best pubs around
D. M.
The Bell is back! First time we've been back since the change in ownership, and I'm delighted to upgrade to 5 stars. This is the Sunday roast of dreams, the lamb neck was slow cooked to perfection, deliciously yeilding and tender meat and rendered fat. A ball if safe and onion stuffing, carefully browned and drenched in some serious gravy. Portion sizes were massive! Drink selection is really good too. It's great to have you back!
A. Q.
I dont know why I haven't been here for so long. Its a lovely village pub. There were 12 of us dining for my Birthday dinner, staff were very friendly and helpful and our table was ready for us whenever we wanted to sit. Menu had plenty of really nice dishes on, I went for the spiced colliflour soup to start which did not disappoint at all, very good. Everybody enjoyed their starters except for perhaps the paté which my daughter thought was a bit too runny but still tasty. All the main courses went down well, everybody was really happy. I had a 10oz rib eye which was cooked perfectly with a stunning red wine sauce. Can't big this place up enough, food drinks and service all brilliant. I paid £158 for 6 of us which i was happy to pay. Thank you at the Bell we will be back.

Friday Night at The Bell Inn
We were a table of four , received a warm welcome on arrival. After looking through the menu with an excellent choice we all ordered food arrived and was excellent, just about saved enough room for desert.
A. A.
Fantastic Sunday lunch with the family 5 empty plates always a good sign and afters were devoured special thanks to the waitress who gave us a cheese board for 2......plus the wife and I wished we could of stayed a little longer to listen to the guitarist playing really good music....cwtched up with a pint of butty bach..Will definitively visit again Andy.
C. G.
Great pub. Great ciders. Great music on a sunday
S. M.
Absolutely lovely meal. Staff were very attentive and very pleasant and courteous. Compliments to the chef, he clearly understands food.
M. B.
Great music today at the Bell Inn including us. All part of the Caerleon festival.
b. m.
Just moved to Caerleon and my first visit to The Bell Inn for Sunday roast. Really fabulous food generous portions and the staff were really friendly and accommodating. I will definitely be back.
B. H.
I really enjoy coming to the Bell. We have been here twice now and the service is friendly and light. Their chef makes tasty, warming and hearty pub food. No bells or whistles (excuse the pub) just great food that does what it says on the tin! It is brilliant value for money also!
N. B.
Excellent pub. Amazing food
R. D.
Had the vegan option for Sunday lunch it was amazing. Rest of family had beef and lamb which was apparently equally good. Best Sunday lunch in a long time.
C. S.
Went for a Sunday roast, we had the chicken and the lamb, both were very good and the staff were fantastic. Highly recommended.
R. E.
Absolutely stunning Sunday lunch can't praise it enough. Nothing is to much trouble, staff are wonderful. Had broccoli & Stilton soup for starter, it was the best soup I have tasted. Good friendly atmosphere and good value for money. Love the place !
C. R.
Well what can I say, dog friendly. Brilliant evening on Saturday. Good beer. Good atmosphere and good food, they were even able to cater for my wife who is gluten free. The owner even made us feel very welcome, top it all off louie the dog even had bed brought out for him and a bowl of water within 10 minutes of our arrival. If we had local like this near us we would be in it every evening.
A. S.
Lovely local pub serving choice of ales and ciders, amazing food and also dog friendly. My scallops starter was delish, and pork belly was scrumptious. They also have dog food on the menu so our lovely pup had some yummy food too. Friendly service and lovely cozy atmosphere.
D. S.
Incredibly friendly and welcoming staff to both people and dogs. The food is outstanding and includes a three course menu for dogs! If you want some excellent food having checked out the nearby roman ruins - you couldn't ask for a better option.
P. J.
Wonderful pub, great food in a lovely atmosphere. The staff were smashing & we loved meeting their beautiful dogs. A super place to relax & have a leisurely meal with friends. Gluten free catered fir exceptionally well & with no fuss
a. t.
Visited with a friend and had great food served by very helpful staff, we had the Christmas menu and although busy the food wasn't compromised at all. The Brie to start and chocolate brownie were particularly good, looking forward to taking the whole family (and the dog!) next time it felt like the perfect spot for a Sunday roast.
K. S.
Stopped for a quick lunch as we were passing through, not really expecting much. However, I literally just had the best steak sandwich of my life! Small lunch menu, but really nicely done. Good selection of beers too and a decent courtyard beer garden. Cute dogs too!
J. M.
Lovely food, reasonable prices and a lovely, warm welcome for us, our kids and our dog. Food takes a while to come but nicely presented, well cooked and nicely presented. Old fashioned pub in a nice setting.
p. c.
Best steak I've ever had, soooo tasty. Nice relaxed service, they treat your dogs lovely aswell. The food was better than you'd expect going by the appearance of the pub, it is top notch restaurant fare. I would love to return to try something else on the menu. Desserts were lovely too, made with real skill and care.
Z. G.
Service was superb, really considerate, friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Fantastic food, beautifully cooked, presented and executed.
Locally sourced produce, seasonal and great flavours. Nice selection of wines, gins and decent beers. Not forgetting the "Dog Menu" brilliant idea. Can't wait to bring our dog for her to try it all.
A real find, best food in Caerleon by far.
M. D.
A lovely pub tucked away and steeped in history. Very welcoming, great selection of local beers and cider. Food outstanding, best pudding I have ever tasted. great locals. Dog friendly. Go for it!
L. J.
Absolutely exceptional food . Great service and a wonderful evening.
Even better because you can take your dogs into the restaurant and they make them feel so welcome with a bed and treats.
Exceptional service and lovely friendly staff . I'll always keep returning xxx
D. S.
We went here whilst staying overnight at celtic manor. Such a nice welcome from the staff with great food and reasonably priced also. Dog friendly, super cosy very tasty food and good value for money. HUGE shout out to the very friendly staff who made us feel super welcome.
Keep up the good work guys ⭐️
M. W.
Fabulous Sunday lunch.
The staff were extremely friendly and accommodating. The food was lovely (maybe the yorkies could have been cooked a little less) and portions were very generous. We will definitely be back 👍😁
R. N.
Couldn't fault sunday lunch. Wholesome, not pictures on plates. Service from all staff excellent
S. D.
New owner, great food & drinks selection. Staff efficient , friendly & obliging. Definitely visiting again
S. B.
Called in with my dog & she was welcomed with a bowl of water, a bed to lie on & a "Dog's Menu" from which "she" chose a meat stuffed rawhide shoe which went down very well. Although there were lovely items on the lunch menu they weren't quite suitable for me & when I said they weren't Slimming World friendly I was offered a char-grilled chicken breast, jacket potato & a beautifully prepared salad which certainly hit the spot. Asking about local dog walks we were told about several in the area so I have no hesitation in recommending this Inn to anyone in the area but especially to dog owners looking for a friendly welcome, you'll certainly get that from the staff & their dogs will welcome yours.
S. J.
Excellent Sunday lunch. Very generous portions. Lovely home made dessert. Staff could not have been more friendly. And dogs welcome too!
G. W.
Couldn't fault it at all! Food was well cooked, good portions and very reasonably priced! Very good vegetarian and vegan menus too. Good choice of beer, ales and ciders and fantastic prices as well. Will definitely be going back soon!
M. B.
Fantastic pub, great beer, great food and great staff. This pub is also dog friendly which is a huge plus. I took my dog Mushy Peas to their annual Scrufts competition and we all had a lovely time. Pay them a visit!
L. L. L.
Lovely lunch options and great selection of drinks. Gluten free options available and very dog friendly. The young staff were knowledgeable, welcoming, polite and provided great service. Lovely pub with ample parking and a good sized outdoor seating area. Food very nice, good portions & we'll presented - today I enjoyed a medditeran platter with a cornicopua of cheese and a cheeky pinot in the sunshine.
R. N.
Booked a table for 6.45 but arrived 30 mins early and our table was ready..prime spot in front of the fire! Staff most welcoming, nothing was too much trouble, even my ancient dog was provided with a comfy little bed and masses of cuddles.. love the doggy treat menu! Also a fantastic vegetarian menu... The best selection I have ever seen!.. and 3/4 of us omnivores ate veggie food this time and were not disappointed.
I live in Somerset, but having spied the afternoon tea selection on offer, will be back to walk a bit more of the Usk Valley walk ++ very soon!
J. M.
Lovely Sunday lunch, dog friendly pub.
Good selection of beer, cider and wine.
You definitely need to book.
All staff are attentive.
Well worth a visit.
D. A.
Great food. Only thing I didn't like was when we arrived we wanted to look at a menu...staff refused to give it to us until our table booking time. (815) we arrived at 8. In all my years of life...I've never been told this at a restaurant before. Most of us at the table where put off by this.
We totally understand if we where not allowed to order until our actual booking time, but thought it was a bit rude we couldn't have a little look at the menu beforehand.
Service and food was excellent besides. We definitely will be returning.
j. ..
Very welcoming, we brought our dog out for dinner! She loved it (and the human food was superb) thank you team at the bell for yet another top notch meal!
N. P.
Great food and very friendly and helpful staff. They hadn't started the Christmas menu yet as it was November but they made an exception and were very accommodating. Lovely local pub/restaurant.
M. H.
We have just eaten the true Brit, the platters and garlic mushrooms, wow, amazing! I have a well travelled palette and love good food, Joe the chef certainly wowed me, fab honest, fresh food with an amazing flavour.... A tip, if you order the true Brit, ask for the garlic mushrooms and dip it in as a combo, you will be blown away as we were! Definitely recommend to everyone... xxx
A. 7.

S. S.
Really good food, friendly staff, great location. Covered area for outside dining. What's not to like?
H. L.

N. L. P.
Went here tonight for a catch up dinner with a friend, chose it because it was dog friendly! Little did we know just how dog friendly...they have a doggie menu with choice of 3 courses!

Excellent varied menu, plenty of vegetarian options, care and attention put into every dish. Good range of ales and ciders on tap. Very friendly, welcoming atmosphere. Dining area separate from bar but not so much that it feels like a different place.
N. S.
Good service, but more importantly excellent food, cooked to perfection and really good homemade deserts. Cant recommended enough 10 stars from me.
D. R.
The team are so friendly. They were totally accommodating of the pet dogs that were with us.
The food is very, very good. A good pub with a happy atmosphere.
S. W.
Delicious lunch at the Bell. The menu has items not found on the typical pub menu.
Beef Brisket in a Yorkies Wrap with roasties and gravy.. Delicious!
Lunch menu is reasonably priced, the beer is expensive.
M. B.
Food was amazing ! The flavours the quality top notch and the presentation
Staff extremely helpful and happy
Good knowledge of products and events
Very comfortable relaxed pub. Definitely going back will recommend!
K. H.
Mixed grill to die for. Popped in for a drink with the dog!, found the pub on Google for "dog friendly pubs" Not local to the area.
what a surprise we had. Well worth the money. Good effort.
L. W.
On the way back from Pembrokeshire to Bath, looked up "pubs to eat" as we were approaching Newport, came across this wonderful pub.
We got there and thought, maybe, we would be late for
Sunday roast, but it was still going until 4pm.
A member of staff named Darian, set us up a lovely spot by the bar, and was superb from then on,with his service, even to the point of holding an umbrella for my mother after the meal, and offering to walk her to the car, a fine example of quality service.
I had a Roast lunch of mixed meat and large yorkshire, with vegetables, stuffing and gravy for £11.95. I would say it was the best roast I can ever recall having.
If your passing by this place or fancy a trip to eat out, I strongly recommend this establishment.
p.s. there is a bit of live music thrown in too!!!
C. S.
Visited this place to put our Britstops membership to good use.
It's the first time I've ever walked in to a place and been made to feel at home. Charly was welcoming and friendly... I have a feeling we'll pop in here a few more times on our adventures in our van. The Britstops book says the car park is at the top of a steep drive so I was expecting the worst, but it's only a short drive so it's not too bad.
M. K.
Fantastic pub with old world charm.
The good is excellent and staff are great. The only reason they lose a point is because it was quiet the evening of visited they decided to turn off the ice machine!
G. P.
Great food and very reasonable prices. Turned up and was greated by friendly and attentive staff. Lovely Sunday lunch. Definatley will be going back again. Also dogs friendly.
G. R.

Nice food and catered to dairy free. Mussels with fish were deep fried which wasn't stated on the menu which was a shame but everything cooked to a high standard. Decent beer on tap though house white was dissapointing. The main issue was the noise level from drunk patrons at the bar next to our table. Couldn't hear the person sat next to me and although we had an apology from staff the noise level escalated from there, until we hurried to finish our meal and leave.

Sunday lunch and service was absolutely faultless today. I love this place.

The Bell Inn in Caerleon is an absolutely fabulous place a wonderful pub I have from my childhood memories 50 years ago.
My whole family, including my grandad used to hang out here and have a couple of beers most days a week .
Obviously the pub has changed quite a lot over the last years. It is an early 17th century coaching in and actually very close to the Roman burial ground here in Caerleon.
It’s a wonderful atmosphere in the pub beautiful gardens outside lovely sitting inside all nestled in a little village just outside of the main town of Caerleon.
