Wow just returned from the Isle of Wight tried a 3 course Sunday lunch at the George inn Newport four of us we had prawn cocktails as starters followed by roast beef with excellent portions of beef roast potatoes and Yorkshire separately arrived even more veg cauliflower cheese thinking we were all over the moon we ordered sweets home made cherry crumble and custard too die for again large portions overall the George was excellent for the 4 of us under £60 many thanks to the wonderful staff especially Mandy very well done

Strange decor mix in this busy pub near the bus station - beams, anaglypta, brickwork, wood paneling but somehow it works. Nice fireplace for a cold day. Large seating area outside. Extensive pub grub menu £10 range. Pint of Fosters £3.90

What can I say, the 3 course Sunday roast was fantastic, Bob and the staff was really friendly and we felt so safe in there, We would highly recommend the George Inn fantastic service ( Sorry forgot to take a photo of the Hot Chocolate Fudge cake ). Definitely booking again.

Superb Sunday roast dinner, limited choice of meats but beautifully prepared and presented. 6 different vegetables plus all the usual trimmings. Plenty to eat. Wine and beer good value with a bottle of Rose only £12.50. Very Covud safe place, well recommended.

Five of us Indians walked in with empty stomachs after a cold journey from London Victoria in April2018. We just wanted food but what we got really gives us sweet memories to date. The food was fresh, quantity was extremely well. The meats were succulent, 1 lasagne fed 3, the burgers had to be pushed down the throat. We had no hands to take photos. The staff left us alone to demolish our food. The greens/salad served were fresh and crispy. This was fresh made British food and not so much underrated. The looks don't do justice, you would mistake it for just a pub. Till date this was the best non Indian food we have had in over two years. Thanks you

Very excellent, the roast was without doubt one of the best I've had out in a very VERY long time. Meat was so tasty and tender, potatoes and parsnips were crispy and yummy, vegetables were cooked perfectly. Service was quick and friendly. Will be returning for sure.

We are here from America, visiting friends for the holidays. We spent the day on the Isle of Wight and stopped in Newport for a nice meal before getting back on the ferry. The George was a wise decision on our part because it was wonderful! Food perfectly cooked, large portions, and Sammy our server was fantastic. My wife and I highly recommend this fine pub.

Big portions, friendly staff, good value. Only downside was the fact that on the hottest day of the year the tables outside weren't hardly cleared. We were there from about 4pm to 7pm and of the 20 or so tables outside by the time we left 18 of them had glasses/bottles/plates on them and only 3 were occupied. Never more than 5 occupied the whole time. The server would bring out plates of food and go back in empty handed or take two finished plates out of 4, and then the next time if she took anything she would take just half the plates off a different table so both tables still looked a mess and the plates were covered in flies. A couple of people came in, looked around at the state of the place and left which is a shame. May be there is full employment on the IOW and they couldn't get any more staff? I nearly offered to do 5 minutes myself for free...

Great place with great staff and management who value your custom! The sign out side said that they don't do fast food! We had a meal there and my only complaint was that it wasn't quick to come out but the food was very tasty and hot! Definitely worth a bit longer wait!! Would definitely be going back to eat and drink there again thank you!

Very friendly staff with tasty pub food! Excellent selection of drinks too. The decor is rather bland however. I remember visiting here a few years back, it used to be so rustic and old fashioned, definitely what people look for in an English pub. Unfortunately it has been 'updated' and now looks more like a travelodge reception. Still, this is minor. If you want good booze and good food, definitely try out the George. P.s please update your menu, it looks like it was made in clip art on windows 95

Had breakfast here on Easter Monday. Don't be put off by the shabby external appearance of this pub, ( I have to admit we only went in because most other places were shut. ) Inside thier has been some obvious work done on making the place more welcoming and it was clean . The staff here are freindly and helpful, the breakfast menu is limited but they were happy to be flexible, swapping out chips for hash browns . The omelette's were tasty, substantial and well presented, similarly the maxi breakfast ( full English) , reasonably priced too. Only minor quip - sausages could be better quality but there were 6 in our group and everybody got up happy .

We had an ok experience here. Hunting around for a late lunch, starving kids and the promise of a nice roast written on a billboard outside. To cut to the chase, the beef roast was out of stock but instead of offering Turkey or Pork (which we didn't know was available until I went up to chase our food after about 40 mins of waiting) we had to choose something else. The couple next to us had their roast pork delivered ages before our meals came and we ordered first! And that was the point where it was clear other roast options were still available. One of the simple kids meals (fish fingers) came out last, and as is usual with pub establishments, the chips on each of our dishes were a touch underdone and lacked any flavour .. just like your supermarket chips. Other than that, the rest of the food on the plate was good and tasty enough. The burger special was pretty large and full of flavour, and the other half's lasagne was loaded with cheese topping and not bad tasting at all. Overall, not a bad lunch but not great either. Food took too long to come and the overall flacours didn't tally up with the cost (above average in my view).

My wife had a burger that was good, my granddaughter had chicken goujons, real chicken and a generous portion. Why 3 stars then? I had prawns which must have been defrosted in the microwave they were chewy and dry, quite inedible but there were plenty of them. Also a knowledge of allergens and additives would be useful.

On a day visit to Newport last Saturday 11th May popped in to the George Inn. What a lovely pub. Nice & clean lovely few pints& a lovely baguette. Friendly landlady & had a laugh with two old boys from London who are now locals. Highly recommended.
