Reviews of Cromwell Cottage Northampton

Great service. Food was great, lovely choice. Unfortunately they were out of the pork belly and rotisserie chicken but I had the burger… I’m a bit of a burger snow and this was delicious. Loads of meaty cheese, soft bun and came with some beef dripping gravy. Kids had pizza, thin bases and very nice. Not as good as an Italian but still tasty. Had some desserts too, they do small portions of pudding too which is a great idea. Will def go back. They also put a candle in my kids dessert so they could sing happy birthday to me 😀
A. T.
I had 3 courses and every one was exquisite, it honestly was one of the best meals I've had in a very long time. The staff were all very pleasant and attentive. I will definitely come back again whenever I am in the area it was that good.

I visited the pub in the evening of the 13/06/22. Myself, sister and parents thoroughly enjoy coming here as the food and drinks are of good pricing and great tastes.
Our visit on Monday was great as Kelly, Alice, Jack and Jim recognised myself and sister who are regular visitors. Jim greeted us at the door and was very welcoming and lead is to our table.
From then on it was a seamless night for my family and the service from Kelly was efficient as the starters, mains and my two cheeky puddings were faultless.
Thank you to the chefs that night as I loved the lamb shank special, especially from a person who never really goes for the lamb option (picture below).
Thank you Cromwell team for a fun and relaxing night for my family.

Had a lovely Sunday lunch
Food was tasty and service by Lottie was professional and friendly.
Lovely atmosphere with no rush, added to a great enjoyable meal
See you again soon
A. G.
Popped in on the off chance of grabbing some Sunday lunch. Two half roast chickens and a nice house bottle of prosecco + sat outside in the sun 😎
The interior decor could do with a freshen up, but the food and service were great, yes I would eat there again 👍🏻
S. P.
Lovely old building full of character. Smart decor with plenty of space. Food was excellent, and there is a big choice on the menu. Service was to a high standard, and we didn't have to wait too long for the good either. Husband was very happy to discover they have Doom Bar on tap. We will return.
s. i.
Had the vegan menu I can recommend the veg curry😋, everything was superb, waitress with tattoos was very informative,we shall return
G. W.
A beautiful building with lovely decor, we went there for an evening meal and the atmosphere was very warm and welcoming. They have a great selection of beverages and the food is excellent, the cherry on top was the excellent and sincere friendly customer service we received from start to finish. Of note, Charlotte was outstanding, taking the time to converse with us and listen, she truly made us feel special. An amazing place with amazing staff and food, I cant recommend enough. Thank you Charlotte.

Lunchtime meal for 2. Lovely clean restaurant, not very busy but service was excellent. Starters arrived in a timely manner, nice and hot and tasty. Steak mains cooked perfectly. Good portion sizes. We would definitely recommend.
J. T.
Definitely a 5 star experience. The food was absolutely lovely. Nice selection on the menu with both vegetarian and vegan choices as well. The staff were really helpful and lovely and seemed to just appear when needed. No looking for them to catch someone's attention they were just there. Definitely book as this place did look busy. My only small issue was that it was a bit pricey.
J. M.
We had a really nice Sunday lunchtime drink with all the family. Service was brilliant, the barman helped me to our table with the drinks. It's little things like that will definitely make me return. Thanks for a lovely Sunday drink in pleasant surroundings.
C. R.
Great customer service, great price, great quality of food especially temperature of food. No idea on how you can improve. It's hard to find a best place to eat and this has definitely covered that category.
Y. C.
Staff are all lovely, food is very good, with plenty of variety. Have been a few times and always feel special. Received a very nice bottle of Prosecco for my birthday on the house (via email) so recommend others to sign up to the newsletter. Lots of great offers so far. Will be going back very soon, Thank you to all the staff.
D. O.
Just popped in for a drink in the garden, while out walking with the dog. Was a pleasant visit the outside benches could do with a makeover.
The drinks were a little pricey but I have paid more. Was busy the nice weather probably has something to do with it. Nice pub.
K. S.
I advised them it was a special occasion during booking and we had a welcome surprise when at the table - very nice. Excellent choice of food for vegtarians as well, and the food was exquisite and tasted amazing. We wasn't rushed at all, and the occasion was suitably remembered.
A. W.
Food was mixed, pizza a little overdone, steaks were better, food quality good. Portion size average. Service very good, friendly. Just feels a bit expensive for what it is (sauce to go with £26.50 steaks at £3.90!!), appreciate food, staffing and premises costs are increasing but even so.
A. H.
Service was a little slow - one of the plates of food looked like it had been sat for a long time and had dried out. Our drinks order was also wrong. I'm picking small things; overall we had a lovely time and the food, when replaced was delicious.
J. C.
Was greeted by young manager paige. Very gracious host showed us to our table we had such a pleasant evening and food was incredible. Will defiantly be going back again
E. L.
Such a lovely meal to celebrate a family Event, fabulous food as always with a wide range of desserts on offer.
Many thanks to Charlotte for looking after us all so well x
M. B.
Lovely little place to eat. Friendly staff, great service and the food was lovely. Nice area to visit and the little pub is so cosy. We will definitely be going back 👍
L. M.
We had a lovely lunch at the Cromwell, service was fab and food was excellent! Tom was especially helpful in getting a high chair for my little one and moving the pram so it wasn’t in the way! Will definitely be back!
J. I.
Drinks service was a bit slow but the food was excellent and the staff were friendly and helpful. A very comfortable and enjoyable visit for lunch. Very much recommended.
B. A.
Fantastic gastro pub. Slightly off the beaten track and well worth the effort.
Great outdoor area and newly renovated interior. Excellent menu with dietary requirements well catered for.
The food is really excellent, our group had Chicken Milanese (which was really fantastic, the gravy in particular), a fish finger butty (delicious) and a steak sandwich (excellent!) as well as the sticky toffee pudding. Service was good.
It was busy on Saturday afternoon, so worth booking ahead.
R. F.
Lovely pub, fantastic and friendly service. Food was very lovely too, very flavourful. Pork belly melted in the mouth and the salmon was cooked nicely.
S. P.
Lovely atmosphere and great friendly service. The food was exceptional and a good choice.
S. W.
Perfect place for a family meal. Great choice on the menu and the quality of the food was excellent. Tha staff were friendly and helpful.
H. R.
Very good menu easy to book and lovely setting. Staff very welcoming.
S. R.
Fabulous evening at Cromwell last night, staff were brilliant as usual, food was lovely.Brilliant atmosphere.
My only down side is that there was only one choice of dessert available for gluten free apart from ice cream. sadly they stopped doing the passionfruit &martini etonmess which is gluten free, my husband is coeliac so when we had this last summer it was refreshing change. i appreciate it is difficult catering for dietry needs having worked in hotel for 13 years i know there are other options available. To be fair this seems to be a common thing in restaurants.
That said big thank for lovely svening.
We were not aware of the other desserts.
This did not spoil our evening however the food and service were brilliant as always.BIG THANK YOU TO STAFF ALWAYS PLEASANT.
N. E.
After a very poor experience when it changed hands many years ago (I always vote with my feet!) We were pleasantly surprised last night, eight of us with better sized portions, all served hot by a lovely waitress!
S. N.
Great food, lovely staff and a friendly atmosphere always makes it good place to go.
V. T.
We enjoyed a fantastic family meal here last week.
The food was fab and the staff were very helpful and professional.
Kelly and Jack i think helped us on the evening.
c. v.
Gorgeous food. Come here quite often and this is by far the best meal I've had here , and Charlotte was a brilliant waitress.
A. S.
Great Food Fantastic service
C. d. H.
Good vegan menu, good vegan food, friendly and helpful staff, good atmosphere, easy parking. Tips get shared amongst all the staff and it clearly states so that on the bill. All in all a very positive experience which will definitely be repeated. Recommend it wholeheartedly. Enjoy, Christiaan 😊👍🙂👌
P. D.
Amazing and tasty food xx
M. B.

T. B.
Absolutely beautiful place, food was amazing, staff was really friand helpful xx
M. B.
Good food and beer, friendly staff and nice chilled atmosphere. Outside seating and plenty of parking.
D. J.
I had a lovely surprise 60th birthday get-together secretly organised by my lovely girlfriend, Lin. She surprised me by inviting some of my old friends and work colleagues. The food was absolutely superb and the attention to detail by your staff was exemplory, with a special call out for Kelly. She really made the evening for me and my friends, and in my opinion she excelled in every way and is a credit to the Cromwell Cottage. I will definitely be returning for more....
There was absolutely nothing that I can think of that you could improve upon.
P.
Booked a table for 6.30, arrived 10 minutes before time, shown to out table and ordered drinks, and gave our food order, a bit of a wait before starters arrived and mains and sweets arrived promptly afterwards. We were then approached and told our table had another booking and could we move to another area if we wanted another drink, we just paid the bill and left, whilst we understand there may be other bookings if the starters had arrived quicker we may have finished earlier, the food is great just felt a bit like we had been asked to leave.
A. W.
Amazing place. We live in MK and had never been here before. We booked here as we were going to the Derngate and it wasn't too far away, and boy are we glad we did. The food was fantastic, the service was brilliant, the cocktails were delicious. Beautiful place. We will definitely be coming back again

Losing count now of the number of excellent evenings we have spent at the Cromwell. Our latest on the 27th Jan was another such night. Pre-meal drinks in the bar lounge, love that, cosy comfy seating. Meal to follow, Ribeye, perfect as always, Yasemin had the linguine which was gorgeous she says, licking her lips.
Our main waitress was Irma, who is lovely, smiles all evening and service is impeccable. All the staff have the same happy disposition, which is refreshing to see and enhances the cool relaxing atmosphere in the place. Dining area was packed, again, so book early, but the food is always hot, plenty of choice and comes out at just the right time. Never disappointed when we visit and have 2 or 3 more visits coming up in the near future. A Big Thank You to all concerned.
R. G.
Fantastic experience, so glad we booked and came. Visited with work and as the supplier of Soft Drinks to Mitchell and Butlers I will always mKenan effort to visit an establishment if its nearby to my hotel.
Tonight there were 3 of us and I have to say the food and service was excellent. The pub was running behind on arrival but they were honest, set us a tab and we were happy.
We had 2 courses each and a few drinks and the whole experience was good enough to definitely come back.
Would highly recommend.
j. b.
Ok not to bad, small portion which they try and hide with a large Yorkshire pudding, 2 very small slices of beef. Not to bad of an atmosphere, staff smoking by the main entrance is a bit of a put off.
D. B.
Brilliant place 👏 👌 food is fantastic and staff are really nice and helpful, food arrived quickly after ordering.......would definitely recommend 👌 and definitely return next time I am in the area 👍🏽
A. E.
This was my first visit and I was very impressed. A warm welcome and promptly seated even though we were 30 mins early.
Excellent service and good portion control with all three courses.
Our waitress was helpful and assisted our booking for Wedding Breakfast in a weeks time.
The ambiance was pleasant and orderly in spite of many covers being accommodated.
Looking forward to my next visit 😊
H. H.
We had a brilliant afternoon at the Cromwell. What a beautiful restaurant full of old world charm. Booked for 8 but only six came due to illness. Of the six 2 were not eating but they ended up having soup.
They were very accommodating. Good food and ambience. Thank you Cromwell Cottage.
W. _.
Superb staff and food , great relaxed atmosphere always, if you want food to take away it's never a problem, definitely going back
M. W.
Partner and I came here on a quick lunch break from work,
Cute cozy place, lovely food and great service from our waitress Paige, who was simply amazing and really looked after us.
Will definitely return soon
P. I.
Very welcoming , service was good and meal was great thank you.
O. B.
It was a lovely visit. The staff are so friendly and the atmosphere warm.
G. C.
Wonderful meal, friendly and attentive staff and great at accommodating food allergies. Sadly the vegetarian and vegan main options are a bit limited
M. O.
Do not know. The standard of staffing has improved a lot. Very pleasant and competent now.
Pity there never seems to be anyone in charge to welcome
G.
The Cromwell cottage is definitely a great place to go if your interested in quality food and drink, the staff are very professional and kind, definitely worth the visit!
A. G.
The setting and staff were very nice, the car park is a bit small, and I drove by the first time didn't see the sign.
N. F.
Have always loved the location and atmosphere of this place. Really nice food and good service. Knocked a star off due to the fishy smell as you walk through the door and another due to their payment system voiding my payment, causing me to pay twice and wait for one to drop off.
D. B.
Excellent food, good service but limited parking for its size.
A. R.
They really looked after us for a gender reveal meal. Bought our own cake, which they kept refrigerated for us and bought out on a plate at the right time. We were allowed to decorate the table. The food was lovely, staff attentive, beautiful interior. Will definitely be coming back.
D. S.
Nice cosy pub with great food and atmosphere. Well presented and delicious food and helpful staff. Prices are reasonable too
K. S.
Excellent food & service as always. Thank you Kelly fantastic service.
M. B.
All staff were superb and even better was the food. Lovely laid back and clean place. All staff were so very attentive and all genuine smiles. We were celebrating a birthday and so glad we chose you. We will be back.
D. F.
Excellent main (rack of lamb), great service and atmosphere. Slightly let down by the quality of the bread to share and the mini pud (lemon and blueberry polenta cake).
G. R.
Take limited offer of 50% off mains( with conditions)
Parking limited, OK when not full booked.
Food certainly on Lunch menu not inspiring, and salmon crab fish cakes need a rethink.
C. P.
Very good service and Lunch. Staff. Very attentive.
M. O.
Prices have gone through the roof..
Shame as this was our favourite place to eat out..
Almost £17 for a burger is taking the P***
N. S.
4 stars because of lovely location spotlessly clean Great staff.
Food 3 stars ordered trio roast Sunday lunch. A large portion of home made vegetables very nice however small "bone in" chicken leg/thigh a thin slice of pink beef and a thin slice of pork belly full of fat. Disappointed
Drinks expensive
E. C.
Food well presented and very efficient staff.
However squid starter was warm and chewy, chips with steak meal were not very hot. The steak was 100%.
Crab &prawn fishcakes is not the correct description more like potato cake no seafood taste and no seafood in sight
May try again at some point
C. F.
Not the best experience, the food was OK but just not hot enough. The device however was atrocious, understandable when we first arrived as they were extremely busy. 3 hours later however and not many people there was no excuse
P. L.
Met with friends first time in 1.5yrs due to the Pandemic. Excellent setting, lovely architecture and interiors, very traditional. Varied menu with something for everybody. The food was absolutely delicious with staff being extra helpful, polite and nice. I would highly recommend.
K. M.
Lovely pub with low beams and cosy atmosphere. Informal bar area with big armchairs or more formal dining room with character. Food is lovely. Can def recommend the brunch :) evening meals are good too with twists on old favourites.
N. S.
I love this place, always friendly, always welcoming and always great food. The best place to eat in and around Northampton. This is the only establishment we frequent regularly. Never disappoints.
J. D.
Staff were lovely but some were too quick so they didn't give us a chance to speak about the issues we encountered. The artisan breads were just two types of bread with a very hard butter. The olive oil and olives were good though. In general, the food wasn't very good. The plant based burger wasn't good in itself and the coconut tzaziki didn't go well with the burger, let alone with a tomato sauce on the bottom which made the bun very soggy. Very disappointing. Desserts weren't great either. I had the apple and blackberry crumble, which wasn't a crumble at all, just biscuits made into flour. I requested a decaff Irish coffee and got a decaff coffee instead but thankfully one of the staff members took it back when I asked if that was an Irish decaff coffee (since I couldn't taste whisky at all). It was quite disappointing... They used to have quite a lot of veggie options which were quite good, not sure what happened there.
P. P.
Very accomodating, even for a pensioner with a small appetite. Thank you Alice & Jim.
E. G.
We’ve been coming to the Cromwell for years, and the food quality and atmosphere is constantly spot on. Never had a bad experience there.
Delicious menu and great service - one of our favourite pubs in the UK.
L. B.
Stopped for a drink 🍸 great service and friendly staff 👍 barstaff helped me out with the drinks great thanks
M. H.
Great pub great food. Would definitely recommend
D. H.
Excellent service and a very tasty 3 course Valentines Dinner too
Thoroughly recommended
E.
The food was great, very tasty, but the service was even better. Helped us with our little one. Chair..sorted, mess...dont worry, And the little scoop of ice cream for him was spot on. Thank you, made our anniversary perfect. Thanks to the chef and staff for a great afternoon meal.
G. R.
Limited menu selection, prices have increased. However most restaurants are trimming corners to increase margins.
N. O.
Great food and service this place is a real gem
Will be back thank you for a great birthday evening
B. C.
Always an enjoyable experience and dog friendly!
A. C.
Good food lovely staff no grumbles
C. C.
Fabulous meal , delicious, and great surroundings. Lovely service
D. D.
Good quality food and vegan options. Nutritional breakdown easily accessible if needed. Only thing was were were placed in an area of the the pub with lots of families with babies/kids so noisy. When we were leaving we passed through another ared which was more quiet which would have been nicer to have been seated in. But thays not a massive issue
D. P.
It was a busy night when we came, but we still received good service from the waitress. Lovely food. Good atmosphere. The place has a cosy feeling.
V. K.
Very cosy atmosphere, easy to lose track of time here!
A nice selection of food, the highlight for me being the martini Eton mess, which was very tasty and full of flavour.
l. g.
Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff. Great food
R. L.
Staff were brilliant and the food was exceptional.
K. M.
Lovely, quiet country pub and restaurant. Staff very friendly and efficient but not too attentive.
Food was excellent and reasonably priced. Plenty of choice.
C. S.
My Mum's first meal out since lockdown so we wanted to go somewhere that we knew would be good. The Cromwell didn't disappoint.
Unlike other places we've been to recently there was no Covid clumsiness. A great menu that catered well for the two veggies and one celiac. Attentive but not intrusive service and a waiter with good knowledge of the menu and the products used in each dish.
The food was sublime, dirty burgers that elicited groans of appreciation, gravy that had us begging for the recipe, the best creme brulee ever had and an orange sorbet to die for. My octogenarian Mum, who normally eats like a bird, finished off a whole baked Camembert and a sticky toffee pudding. And it all came in at under £30 a head.
A fantastic evening, thank you to everyone involved. This is how hospitality should be, not absent staff and ordering via apps (Pizza Hut and Greene King, I'm looking at you).
Five stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
C. I.
Fantastic meal and service will be going on a regular basis
J. M.
We had an enjoyable family meal. The meals were really tasty and ample. Service was also great. Will definitely go again soon.
S. B.
Fabulous lunch with a group from work. Service was faultless, excellent menu. A great time was had by all
P. C.
Very 50/50. Some dishes not good some terrific. Service by waitress very pleasant, waiter needs a bit of work. Sorry but I won't be rushing back there.
G. W. (.
Very nice pub, excellent food, great staff. Popular and busy for a Wednesday night. Not however the place for quiet or an intimate experience.
S. D.
Food and service excellent, as usual.
J. C.
Went for a group meal, first impressions were excellent although the car park was crammed. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The food was excellent and served in an unhurried way which pleased us. Portions were adequate and all of the food was freshly prepared and served hot. It worked out to about £30 a head for a drink and 3 course meal which we felt was good for the quality of food.
a. m.
Absolutely impressed with the quality of food and the service we received last night. The young lady serving us was brilliant, and to top it off the extra little touch (happy birthday written all over my dads pudding) was so amazing..really made my dads evening..for this I couldn't fault..i will definitely be returning.. thank you so much.. worth every penny x
M. S.
Friendly, helpful staff, good food and nice decor. Useful large car park.
Just a few minutes off Junction 16 of the M1, makes it an ideal stopping off place to break the journey.
G. B.
Good pub lovely food but service was slow. Appeared to be one staff for the dining area she was working as much as she could.
A. E.
Went back for the first time in a few years - still feels cosy and welcoming, without being antiquated. Brilliant service from the chap behind the bar. Prices are perfectly reasonable.
S. L.
Wonderful food, and beautiful place, cosy environment.and amazing customer service, all staff were friendly and professional.
T. M.
Absolutely brilliant service was good the food was brilliant sous chef must run a tight shift in there because the food was amazing and the presentation was spot on would highly recommend and the price is good to I would have paid more I don't often recommend places but this highly recommend
J. L.
Lovely menu, it was hard to choose. Staff were really friendly. Food was hot and good quality. We'll visit again.
S. H.
Absolutely love it here. We go here quite often, sometimes for food sometimes just for drinks. Always a lovely atmosphere there.
C. N.
Good food and service. Nothing at this time to improve on
L. B.
My roast dinner with belly pork was overcooked and very stringy took most of it home for my doh
S. B.
We arrived early (10.30am) and were able to enjoy some quiet time with a cappuccino/tea. The staff were very friendly, professional and accommodating and even assisted with changing our lunch reservation with no hassle. I loved the interior and setting and especially enjoyed the log fire in the bar! There is nice soft lighting and so much character with low ceilings and wooden beams. Nice comfy leather armchairs and sofas in a relaxed and snug area. A good size car park but this can get quite full as it is a very popular place especially on a Sunday lunchtime. A modern and busy restaurant where the food was really enjoyable. The sunday roast (we had beef & lamb but with more choices on the menu) was a hit and the sticky toffee pudding to die for...compliments to the chef! Nothing is a problem and on request we were served freshly brewed lemon & ginger tea (in a teapot) and a very good decaff cappuccino served with a delicious coconut macaroon on the side! The Cromwell Cottage is warm and welcoming and is a real hidden gem.. I will definitely be returning.
H. B.
Easy to book online, an abundance of parking, great varied menu and delicious meals (especially for plant based diets). Attentive, efficient and very friendly staff, plentiful choice of drinks - faultless!
P. C.
Great food, great service!!! Overall brilliant! Took a group of 10 of us there for family birthday and they made every effort to make it special for her. We all left extremely happy after a really enjoyable night. I will be back and would recommend this place to anyone.
A. C.
Wonderful food, really good service. Fully enjoyed a meal out and would definitely recommend going there
D. C.
Lovely food. Lovely atmosphere. Great service from Charlotte who was lovely to have as our waitress.
a. j.
Good Sunday lunch + dog friendly.
M. H.
Very good, wonderful beef dripping sauce for my blue steak.
P.
Food and drinks were good and it’s worth the drive out, we were a little disappointed in that we’d visited it’s sister pub/restaurant The Cock Inn only the previous day and although I’d ordered the exact same dish because I’d enjoyed so much the portion sizes of the Pork belly and Pork cheek and veg were literally half the size!!! That’s ok if the pricing structure was half price, but it wasn’t... it was full price for what I considered to be half a meal!!! I did mention it to our waitress and that she should mention it to the manager, but with the blank expression I’d doubt that she did!!! ... overall food tasted good and one of our waitresses (lady with tattoos) was really nice
G. D.
Beautiful old building! Really big, loads of space, nice soft lighting and setting. Low ceiling and wooden beams, professional staff, even a big armchair leather sofa snug area. But the best bit is the food! Really tasty meat cooked to perfection whether it's a burger, or chicken, fish or steak. Fab gem of a place.
M. G.
We came here for Sunday lunch recently and found it to be very friendly and welcoming. Wheelchair access was very good and there was an accessible toilet. We chose the roast dinner which was tasty although rather pricey in my view. Overall it was a good experience and we would be happy to come back.
M. P. B.
Good food, good service.
E. T.
Just wow. The food was incredible. I'm a vegan and the options were amazing. I never have pudding but the billionaire chocolate ganash caught my eye and it's the best dessert I've ever had, vegan and non!! Highly recommend. Great buzz, good service lovely place
J. R.
Great food nice setting
P. A.
Met my wife there. Just visited first time for a few years for our anniversary. Food and service excellent. I think we are likely to become regulars. Lunch time is great, easy to park but place was quite busy which gave it atmosphere. Best food we've had for sometime, well presented and full of flavour.
S. A.
Lunch time with the wife 3 course and outstanding as well
S. J.
I enjoyed the food and recognized the likeness to the fox and hounds. Harlestone. I had been there the week before and found it is owned by the same group. My meal ended up the same. Having chosen it some days before with a party from my club. Food very good but the service on both occasions was poor. One exception., My husband chose the Christmas main at the fox and described it as children's portion with 2 thin slices of Turkey and not much else.As we were with another couple we thought it was a poor Christmas offer. The waitress could not work out how to do two separate bills withe debit cards and got flustered. The Cromwell's presentation needs looking into.
K. F. F.
Absolutely stunning food! The presentation was executed to perfection and the ambience is just right. Great for families and couples alike and priced competitively. I had the vegetable tart which was home made and packed full of mouth-watering vegetables in a creamy sauce. Delicious!
A. B.
Nice restaurant in quiet location. Parking facility good. Menu is mainly fish based but also lamb, beef, pork and chicken meals available. Hamburgers are a good choice. Recommend booking table for early evening time. Did arrive at 7.30 pm on a Sunday evening and restaurant had run out of pork and lamb roast meals. Very popular venue and quiet load.. Staff are very nice and friendly
A. S.
We have been here many times, every time we have an empty plate. Food amazing, staff very friendly and attentive. Always a treat, thank you.
A. F.
Delicious food , very welcoming and nice ambience. Service was excellent. Going back for more!
J. M.
Very nice high quality lunch set in an extended period pub. Lovely relaxed afternoon with open fire and friendly staff. Tastefully decorated for the festive season.

This place is awesome!
Celebrated our 10th anniversary here, the staff new we were celebrating so found a nice quiet spot. Or waitress was always on hand when we needed her doing more than any waitress normally would, she even arrange transport back to our hotel. But the star of the evening was definitely the food, everything cooked to perfection favours balanced it was like a party on my plate. We stayed all night and the was a pleasant busy hum and rate of table turnover with tables talking to one another it was like it's own community. Needless to say we both had a great night, I wish I could give it 6 stars

All staff are very attentive and the food is delicious. Highly recommended gastro pub.
B. G.
The waiters and waitresses were extremely nice, and indeed helpful, Unfortunately the waiting times, considering there were only two groups of people including us at the beginning of our lunch, were far too long.
The food and atmosphere were absolutely to notch though. Portions were acceptable (other than the fish cakes... They were small) and tasted fantastic.
I would still recommend this pub to someone looking in the area, though if they too reported slow waiting I no longer tell people.
N. V.
Good food and drink although a little expensive
V. C.
Lovely food as always x great place to stop after our Saturday morning walking group x definitely worth doing more often x
R. W.
Such gorgeous surroundings, hard to park in the large car park on a Friday evening. Very hot in the dining room but the weather was exceptionally hot. Food nicely presented and an attentive waitress. 2 items not available from the menu which is often the norm at Cromwell Cottage. Definitely need to book as very very busy for our 8pm, table for 2 booking. Love this place , not cheap but the surroundings and romantic calm atmosphere will keep me returning. Thank you Cromwell Cottage .
M. V.
Highly recommend food and service. Good all the time

Lovely pit stop on the road from London to Scotland. Outdoor seating in the sun so we had lunch with our dog. Great cheeseburgers and great looking restaurant, very laid back. The Covid measures were all pretty smooth.
E. M.
Lovely, atmospheric old pub for a bite to eat. Watch your head as you open the second set of doors in as the ceiling is really low here. Very friendly staff and good food, with a ramp for a wheelchair/buggy on the way in. The parking can at busy times be a bit tight in places, but ordinarily absolutely no problem. If you are heading for the pub coming from the main road, watch out for the bridge just before, as it's only wide enough for one direction of traffic at a time. Visibility is low so be careful.
T. ..
Lovely food, had a very delicious sea bass with white wine sauce. Very nice, welcoming and friendly staff who have the right balance of service and letting you het on with the experience. Very good, try their wheat beer!
D. B.
Beautiful pub, great cocktails (2 for £12, even at lunch) and food was decent. Got the rotisserie chicken which was lovely, although slightly dry. Having said that I still recommend, even if just for value for money.
K. H.
Don't have the fish cakes they are like baby food inside the nice looking crispy outside, apart from that the waitress was very sweet and attentive. The drinks are very expensive. Don't think the shorts justify the high prices, no ordinary tonics only fever tree, no Gordon's just expensive gins.
I. C.
It was our first time eating here and we will definitely be visiting again. All the staff were polite, nothing was too much trouble. Food was excellent. I highly recommend.
W. D.
Very nice place and great food, little on the pricey side but you pay for high quality ingredients.
N. P.
Would have given 5 stars except for the prices being a bit high. Maybe ordinary for most but 200 pounds for 4 persons seems a bit too much
K. M.
We are celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary (the whole weekend) we decided to walk to here & the food was so worth it. Not busy, choice to sit inside or outside.
N. B.
We have been quite a few times before and always found a lovely atmosphere and super food. Sunday roast is well worth going for and there is still a varied menu available too for anyone not wanting a roast. When we have been, it has been at the weekend so cannot comment on if it is the same service during the week.
W. T.
Lovely pub but my husband and I ordered the roast beef which came out cold. We sent it back and the 2nd time around it was better but not as hot as we would have liked. Not sure the beetroot on my plated added any value to my roast either. To give credit where it is due, the staff where friendly and helpful albeit rather rushed as it is a Sunday and the restaurant was packed.
Sadly this will not be our first dining choice in the future.
J. S.
Great food, ambience and service, would definitely recommend
C. M.
Service is decent and the decor is amazing. Lots of different areas to eat, drink or relax. It certainly has the wow factor, and menu also looks impressive. We went for Sunday lunch and the place was busy. I'd made a request on my booking but this seemed to be missed. Unfortunately the wow factor didn't last when it came to the food, items missing but only told after, pork roast missing and when it arrived two were extremely hard and mine was under cooked making it chewy. I will say although I'd didn't live up to expectations I would go back because it's such a nice pub, just not for the roast.
A. W.
Service very slow but to be fair, restaurant was busy, food when it arrived disappointing why gravy with leek and chicken pie in white sauce. Pastry on pie burnt was inedible. Vegetables were minimal. Mash - was it fresh I don't think so. Friend had rump steak which was very small. Very disappointed don't like being 'cond ' . Will not be visiting again.
J. C.
Very enjoyable Christmas meal. Staff were friendly and professional, turkey meal was one of the best I've tasted in years. Venue was clean and tidy. Place must be popular as the car park was full on the Friday afternoon we visited.
T. V.
I do love it here and been numerous times. This time the only thing that let it down was the time it took to bring out the veg portions and the condiments. I had pretty much finished my meat and Yorkshire puds before they arrived. It's always busy and I've not experienced that before so that wont have been the reason. Disappointing but won't stop me from coming back.
E. R. M.
Great Service and lovely food
A.
Dissapointed with the Sunday roasts.
We paid 15.95 for a rib beef Sunday roast. We received two thin and small slices of beef over two potatoes burnt on the outside and watery gravy. The Yorkshire pudding and the veggies were ok tough, but it's definitely not what I would expect for the price. My mother in law ordered the salmon which was also 3 mouthfuls for 16 pounds. The atmosphere and design of the pub was nice, but I would really have loved to get better value for money.
S. S.
Dropped in for a quiet Saturday lunch to escape the rain and, despite arriving early, we were quickly seated.
A round of drinks were quickly added to a tab and we were given ample time to decide on what we wanted - which was perfect as we were pretty chatty.
We both had a super food salad with added chicken and shared two starters - but requested that everything was brought together. This was no problem and we received everything just as we wanted it.
Our waitress was very attentive and asked us if we wanted top ups every time one of us finished a cappuccino.
All in all, a very pleasurable and cosy dining experience. Certainly one that I would like to enjoy again, preferably in the evening so I could choose something a tad more decadent.
S. V.
We had a pretty shocking experience in relation to the aubergine curry. I did send it back. Pictures attached. I also contacted the company via their web link, leaving feedback and asking someone to come back to me… That was over a week ago. The service we received was excellent, just a shame the chef didn’t know how to make a vegetarian curry 🙁
Z. J.
Ordered the scallops of the day which were delicious and cooked perfectly. Then for mains I had ordered the Lamb rack, I asked for it to be on the medium to rare side as how I like it. Came out more well done, I wasn't going to bother sending back as could deal with it, but when I went to eat it, it was tough and not the best, so I told one of the waiter and after explaining the problem he sorted me out with a replacement dish, which I went for the prawn linguine which again was absolutely delicious. Overall I would definitely recommend Cromwell
R. M.
Lovely group lunch with friends. Pre ordered good which was tasty.
L. C.
Had lunch last Sunday, 10 March. Three of my companions had roast pork and were very disappointed. It was cold, tough and dry. We mentioned this to a waitress. She said she would tell the chef, but we heard no more. My roast chicken was very nice, but another companion found the fried chicken portion they had to be very small in comparison to those having a roast dinner. Very disappointed for my companions.
V. A.
Found the place during the way back to London and was very surprised how nice it is. Really enjoyed it, the atmosphere is amazing, all of the staff are great and friendly, Steve was very helpful. They have vegan options in the menu, avocado sandwich was 10 from 10 👌🏼
D. W.
Perfect for lunch after a long walk in the fields
G. B.
Friendly helpful staff, clean environment but food expensive for what you get ....ribeye steak flattened (£7 -£8 in M&S) a mushroom the size of a 50p coin and half a small tomato that was warm on the cut end and cold at the other with a small portion of very well browned chips - - £23. Steak tasted good thoughn was cooked to the medium i had requested
Z. M.
Gorgeous food, great service!!!!

After being told by our new neighbours to avoid certain places in the area we decided to try The Cromwell Cottage after having a quick Google seeing their fantastic reviews online.
Upon arrival we asked a member of staff at the bar if there was space for us (3 adults and 3 children). We were all looking a bit worn out and scruffy as we'd been moving house all day and wanted to treat the brother-in-law to dinner for helping us.
We were told there was space and were pointed in the direction of the restaurant area and told someone would direct us to our seat. After waiting for several minutes and watching a few members of staff chat amongst themselves we were finally shown to a table after they were prompted by another member of staff.
We sat, we ordered, the food was amazing. Drinks selection was really good and had something for all of us. I loved my pie! The gravy was so tasty! The service was great after the initial seating hiccup. All in all we really enjoyed ourselves and the waiter was happy to go and ask the kitchen for some garlic bread for our little one after he'd woken up from his nap. A place that takes care of the kids is a big win in our book.
We were a little disappointed that there wasn't a dairy free pudding option for our 3 year old who's lactose intolerant - some vegan ice cream would have made him happy.
Overall we are pleased to say we will definitely be back again!
M. R.
Food was great, we just had pudding. Service was a little hectic though
G. J.
Just popped in for lunch. 3 courses for £15.95 delicious. Grant had specials of the day which where really tasty and worthy of a king. Weekends best to book but can pop in. Service polite and friendly. Lovely atmosphere. For all ages.
R. C.
Used to be our favourite place to go for Sunday lunch but sadly this time the meal wasn't up to normal standards. Plates and food were cold, gravy was as thin as water and the portions of meat were meager. Customer service was great but the food just wasn't up to scratch. A real shame.
J. M.
Had the pleasure of dining in The Cromwell last night and had a very enjoyable evening with my family. Despite me making a hash of my online booking, the staff were very accommodating finding us a nice spot. Everyone enjoyed the food, the chateaubriand was very nice, though I prefer to see a nice thick piece of fillet rather than the thin slices. The chips that came with it were delish! Puddings, incl choc fudge brownie with ice cream and cheesecake went down very well, and I enjoyed a lovely cheeseboard with a good selection. A huge pat on the back for the friendly staff who made us welcome and served us well. Thank you for a lovely evening.
K.
Just go... you will not regret it A+

Really nice lunch for two at The Cromwell Cottage for our Wedding Anniversary. All social distancing working well. Server called Megan, personable and friendly while doing a great job!!! Best of luck for a 2nd year at Nottingham University!!
Fairly quiet Wednesday lunchtime with plenty of room in the car park. Everything worked well and we could relax and enjoy chatting over our meal.
Ironically, we're back again on Sunday for a family birthday with a larger party, so be interesting to see how well that is dealt with!!

Attractive old traditional ironstone pub which has been effectively and attractively extended to make an extensive eating area.
It's a blend of the old and the new with nooks and crannies here are there but the whole ambience is good. It feels light and modern, yet welcoming, whereas the old areas feel cozy. Everything works well.
On arrival, the welcome was good and the service excellent with the young staff blending a friendly informality with efficiency and attention to detail.
Ordering food and drinks went well and all food arrived as expected. Everything was really well presented and tasty. I was impressed, to be honest!
All in all, this was a really nice event for two couples, each driving some distance to meet at this pub. Oh.. the booking system is possibly the best I have seen in the UK.
One of the best upmarket dining pubs I have been to.
R. H.
Food and service good, will go again
B. B.
Unusually for me, I can't find anything wrong with this place.
Venue: fresh, contemporary lookm menu/specials: imaginative and enticing; actual food: delicious and matches the menu, with great attention paid to quality; service: excellent.
Wine list good
Loos good (according to my wife)
Great place, book and get there early!
H. M.
Lovely setting and a lovely pub. First visit and will definitely go again. Food amazing!
D. R.
Fantastic service, the food came outfast, hot, and perfectly presented, and tasted amazing. Very understandable about dietary needs Friendly staff, the whole place is furnished to a very high standard. They didn't mind that the 8 month old was being noisey and that she was dropping food on the floor. All the staff interacted with her aswell. Would recommend. Will definitely be returning
S. S.
The service was excellent along with the meal
J. L.
Very nice place with positive atmosphere 👌
B. D.
Always a pleasure to go to the Cromwell, steven and the staff are amazing and very accommodating. Good food and ambiance will always visit here!
s. a.
An absolutely delightful location and wonderful building. Unfortunately the service on our most recent visit was less than satisfactory. The staff all looked unhappy and rushed. Many customers orders appeared to be delayed, including ourselves.
Great potential though, just a little more effort required to make it the place it used to be.
d.
Amazing place, great food and lovely people! We love it here!
J. s.
Quickly became our local, even though there are closer pubs to us. Can't fault the food, the staff or the venue. Yes it gets busy but i'd rather be in a lively entertaining venue than the only one at the bar! The update to allow dogs in all of the non restaurant area is perfect nothing makes a pub like a Labrador sat infront of the roaring fire!
G. P.
Food was good. Service was good maybe a little slow but it's early days back after lockdown has been eased
R. H.
Accommodation is comfortable and the service was good given that we were a party of just over 20. Some of the dishes were very good, for example lamb and pork dishes. However, the pizza and salmon was disappointing.
J. R.
Great place, very friendly.
C. M.
Smart pub with slightly pricey food
J. O.
Nice atmosphere as summer garden party was on the same day. Starters very nice, mains ok but overcooked not once but twice. Flavours good shame overcooked. Staff fine but not enough care at the start of a meal to see if all ok. Waited a while to catch the eye of a waitress. Complaint handled welll and main not charged. Wiuld definitely give it another try.
R. C.
Had a luvly meal at Cromwell cottage last Sat 5th June wiv eric and Pete would definitely go back had steak it melted in ur mouth staff friendly 🍾🥂👍
M. R.
Very nice venue you can eat or just have a drink here. We ate here with a party of 8 and everyone's meal was excellent. Decent sized car park as well. Only reason it's 4 stars is our waitress was rather grumpy and unhelpful but dont let one waitress put you off going all the other staff were lovely.
K. K.
Amazing food and service!
S. F.
Went to the Cromwell for our 33rd wedding anniversary have not been here for years and for us it was lovely the food was hot. The staff were very good, the only down side was not a lot of choice for non alcoholic beverage for the drivers. But overall it was a great night out. Thanks to everyone at the Cromwell
J. R.
The pub has a nice mix of the old and new. We ate in the bar, which was cosy and had a good atmosphere. Pork Belly for our main course was awesome.
Service was punctual. A couple of good beers on tap, what more could you want?
S. B.
Lovely ambience, friendly staff. Prosecco was delicious. Only criticism was that the food, although pretty, was sadly lacking in flavour.
M.
Good food, good staff, slightly expensive and slow service on the day we visited, but would eat there again and recommend.
S. B.
Service was not great, only 3 staff on and it was busy. We were a party of 4, 2 main meals arrived but 10 mins later we had to advise the waitress that we were missing 2 meals which had obviously been sitting under a heat lamp. Food ok but not great.
A. S.
Good, but overpriced for what it is, as although some of the menu is fresh, much of it is frozen brought in products. The fish cakes were more potato than fish and served with asparagus aldente to the point of crudités. And a virgin mojito ordered was soda water with mint and a wedge of lime, portion sizes also for the money are ridiculously small.
R. H.
Great welcome and friendly service. Good selection on the menu for starter and main course in the evening. Used the bar service sitting in comfy armchairs. Great period decor.
N. T.
Eaten here few times and never had a bad meal. It has recently changed hands and they put on a lovely hot/cold buffet for an event. Lots of variety and well presented.
M. S.
excellent food and good service at a reasonable price...
C. C.
Even though this restaurant looks like it's very upper class it is in fact very down to earth with great staff who are very friendly. If you get the chance try the Duck pate and crab cakes, absolutely delicious. Plenty of parking space here too.
C. T.
Good food, prices comparable to other restaurants / pubs nearby. Friendly staff. Would recommend ordering sides etc though.
H. K.
Excellent food and service. A genuine warm welcome. One of the best meals we have had in recent times!
T. W.
One of the best meals I’ve had for a long time. Food was amazing, service good and it was a really nice building as well
M. B.
Very tasty and well presented food staff were attentive without being a pain
J. C.
I really like the Cromwell Cottage & am a regular visitor there.
M. L.
Yay and nay for me, good food well served but your given little time to enjoy it. It feels like an endless conveyor of customers. Anyone with an eye for detail will see this reflected in the surroundings and service.
m. d.
Charlotte and Kelly were lovely waitresses
A. H.
Very busy so would recommend booking but food is excellent quality, atmosphere was amazing, prices are not the cheapest but you would be wrong to compare against standard pub grub. Service was quick and professional.
D. V.
Love this place, it’s my official winter spot! Lovely food and great atmosphere!
R. B.
Food was good but felt there could have been a little more considering the price and the chips were disappointing for a so called Gastro pub. More like Macdonald's fries to be honest. Drinks are not cheap so be warned. Large white wine and a Guinness was £14
S. E.
Cromwell Inn has been in my opinion one of the best places to eat in Northampton. Atmosphere has always been great, lovely setting and perfect for a romantic meal or a family outing, supported with an excellent service. There has been a few changes to the menu wish we have felt has meant the menu has gone backwards. We always look forward every week to The "Fish Mezze" which has always been a signature dish for us, with a little disappointment the menu has changed and not quite up to their usually standard's of food choice. The majority of the food with the new offering was cold and the quality of choice isn't nearly as good as it was previously.
Staff are always helpful, but in this case we left unhappy with the food and service received and when we mentioned we were disappointed with offering nothing was done about it. Hope they make the changes needed back to the menu for us Fish Lovers. Steve
J. C.
One of the best places I have ever gone to eat! The food isn't cheap but it's well worth if for special occasion! It's so lovely! And quaint and cosey too! Definitely go if you get the chance
J. C.

We have been to the Cromwell Cottage on many occasions as a couple and as a family with young children. The food is delicious, the staff are friendly and the service is amazing. Would highly recommend.
M. R.
Consistently good food but the menu hasn't changed for a long time. Friendly staff, good service and a nice atmosphere.
A. G.
Had a lovely meal here, very attentive staff. We were the only people in as we ate at a strange time but they made us feel really welcome
m. f.
A wide range of real ale and craft beer and splendid food as well as a scenic beer garden
g. C.
Food was OK, average at best. Chicken stringy and a bit dry, roasties soggy. service disjointed, didn't see the same server Twice at our table.
L. V.
Great service and lovely village setting havent visited here for a while after moving out the village but still great place for meal or quick drink

I visited this gem of a place on the way home after British gp and wasn't disappointed,I ordered the roast beef which was outstanding as was the beer I had with it. Fantastic country pub in a great location with very pleasant and helpful staff,I won't hesitate to visit again if in the area.
S. M.
Not bad . Could possibly benefit from extra bar staff . Excellent portions of food , if you want just light bites or smaller portion just choose the starters or children's menu
M. B.
Great food, lovely environment, cracking service. Claudia, our waitress was amazing, full credit to her on a busy Saturday afternoon!
a. w.
The best roast dinner I’ve had in years. So delicious I came back the following week and it was just as perfect. Wonderful staff and fantastic pub!
C. B. M.
A great atmosphere, polite staff and great food. Brilliant place for a bar or evening meal
S. B.
A good evening very helpful after booking at the wrong time. Friends from Fareham enjoyed the meal and evening. Only blip was vegetables arrived when main course was nearly finished but they were taken off the bill.

J. E.
I’m lucky enough to call this place my local. Fantastic venue to dine and drink. Cosy, classy surroundings, lovely staff, excellent food. A little gem in the crown of Northampton
r. h.
Post Christmas and New Year it was always going to be quiet and it was on a Weds evening but the food was good with regular menu and the service was attentive and more informative with time to converse. Reliably good venue.
M. G.
Good pub, great food, and I love the décor. Service can be a bit slow at times... Maybe it's just me who is unlucky and always gets ignored by those serving
S. R.
If you want to be guaranteed a warm welcome , hot tasty food and a cold bottle of Chablis this is the place. Perfect for couples or groups. Nick , Alice and the team are the best. But don’t take my word for it try it
S. S.
Great pub, excellent staff and lovely food. Manager even made the effort to make us feel extra special with a visit to our table, he’s a keeper!
D. K.
Staff fabulous, food really good, decor was very christmassy but classic warm country pub feel to it anyway. Can be for families or romantic dinners would highly recommend
P. F.
Comfortable dining area with a good atmosphere. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Comprehensive menu with something for everyone. Highly recommended.
J. W.
Went for belated birthday meal. Could not have faulted anything. Food and service first class. Most enjoyable evening. 😀😀
D. P.
The service here is friendly and professional. Nicely decorated and furnished. The food here is very good, but a little more expensive than other pubs around here.
S. V.
Excellent food, restaurant and service. I've been going to the Cromwell for 30 years so I've seen a few changes. This is by far one of the most positive experiences. Update: further visit proved as enjoyable as the last.
S. W.
Went here for a works Christmas meal. Great food and atmosphere- Its a little bit "la-de-dah" and one of the meals was served on a bit of slate (that sort of thing makes me twitch a bit hard) but we'd definitely go again.
J. L.
First visit but will not be last! Brilliant food and lovely staff
H. B.
Wonderful quite and calm out of town place, lots of space and great atmosphere. Good food and equally friendly service.

S. M.
Best Food, Best Service, Best Staff FOR MILES. If you want great food, a great atmosphere, and staff that care about you, you need to eat here. We go here all the time, and my only complaint is that it is too far to walk to from where we live but that is just bad planning on our part!
D. V.
Was a lovelt afternoon and food is great. Though we landed up spending a lot as it was such a pleasant day and nice staff.
A. W.
Absolutly love it here, me and my partner come here for dinners or quiet drinks, i love this place, great service, awsome food, good prices

family lunch and catch up. 4 of us... bit slow to start with- they had a big party in... but bangers, mash and gravy was great.. £95 for 4 - bit pricey!

Delightful bar restaurant in very quiet and pleasant surroundings. The food and drinks are good and not over priced.

Always a nice treat
J. A.
The sign of a good venue is the number of people there. The Cromwell Cottage was fully booked last night. It was excellent. No need to say more.
S. B.
Very nice lunch in relaxed and friendly surroundings. Picked a very
tasty salad from their separate vegan menu.
R. W.
Always friendly helpful staff. The food is delicious 😋 Brilliant place to eat or to sit by the open fire and have a natter with friends.
