Warm and friendly! The beer garden is spacious and comfortable perfect for summer and has heaters that kick out some serious heat so is perfect for winter too. They show live sport, open mic nights (Thursday), live music at the weekends as well as a pool table AND good food too! The best feature of this fine establishment is the staff, they are all very welcoming and friendly! An absolute must when you're in Northampton!

This place always has a warm welcome...they know their drinks and menu. They always have great events on ...like yesterday's Valentines bottomless brunch with live singer. I had lovely chocolate dipped strawberries and romance was celebrated with good food and cocktails! Other stuff they have..quiz night Monday, 6 Nations, Upcoming American Super Bowl night, Open Mic Thursdays.. I booked a table on the website before to reserve for drinks and/or food. Talk to them if you have any allergies, they are very accommodating. Genuinely friendly bunch!

We popped into the Mail Coach for a drink before going to see Hairspray. Staff were so friendly and the place had a great atmosphere. My daughter had a hot chocolate, which she said was really nice. (she's really fussy with hot chocolate too!!) If we'd have had more time we would've had a meal here too, as what we saw being served on another table looked lovely. We will definitely be back for a meal next time we're in northampton.

Now I'm actually home and in the mood to write a substantial review here we go. Food - 9/10 Staff - 10/10 We actually stumbled across this place after visiting the Northampton hospital, we weren't sure of the place to begin with but it was so quiet (12pm exactly so opening time!) We went in and we were greeted by a guy with colourful hair, very friendly and full of personality! He saw we were deaf and took his time to explain what was not available, I really appreciated that. The first day we were there I had the prawns to start and the fish and chips, and my partner had the chirozo and the smothered chicken, all the food was delicious, I just wish the tacos were available!! The second day my partner was so impressed he ordered the exact same thing, I however fancied the tacos so I had that with the shredded duck, the only criticism I have is it's a little pricy for two miniature tacos. I understand it was a starter but I wasn't too happy with what I paid versus with what I got, otherwise the other meals were delicious and I loved the burger! Portion size on the chips were a little modest. The drinks were great and if we're in Northampton again we will be sure to visit!

We visited today after a chilly walk, and this was the perfect spot! Warm and cosy but felt perfectly safe. Matt looked after us so well and the food was amazing. Went for a meal before going to the cinema next door and as it was early evening and midweek, it was quiet. Got very good service, Zak took the order and served the food, and the meal was excellent. I had the cheese and bacon burger and it was the best burger I've had for some time - tasted like a really good quality home-made burger. I'd go again except that I was visiting a friend and live two hundred miles away - but can recommend the place based on my experience there.

Visited at lunchtime for the first time on a recent Friday afternoon. Pleasant place, staff were very welcoming, and it has a nice little outside seated area at the back that was great for the sunny afternoon. It has a covered area too if you prefer some shade. The menu is appetising and has plenty of burger, pizza and hot dog variations. My hot dog seemed a little bit overpriced, but it was tasty. My mate had a burger he definitely enjoyed and it looked lovely. I'd eat there again - definitely a lunch break to look forward to! It also has a small stage and looked like it has plenty of music gigs in the evenings, but I didn't notice what sort of bands are on. Got the impression it's a lively place though. I'll be back!

Good town style pub, serving a good set of pub food. Restyled not long ago and benefiting from a heated outside seating area, which is fitted with its own large screen TV showing matches and sports as it does inside on several other screens. Usual pub games inside. Live performances and a good atmosphere, always welcoming. Situated right next to the theatre it offers a good discount rate for patrons and staff of the Royal and Derngate family. Occasionally a little crowded which can adversely affect service but overall it's at a good level of busy. Recommended.

Friendly atmosphere and staff. Personally I preferred the older decor and booths but new layout is still fine. Nice little seating area out back with heaters. Good range of drinks and food is decent - I recommend the scampi dog! Prices are at the higher end compared to other Northampton bars but has a slightly more upmarket feel than some other places nearby.

Probably one of the better pubs in town centre for a relaxed drink during daytime hours. Good choice of drinks and snacks and always plenty of staff on... although the L shaped bar does mean that they don't always spot you! It's clean too. I visited the Mailcoach with two friends. We had planned to meet up before heading off elsewhere. However, we dropped in on quiz night (Monday) so decided to stay. The pub has a below average selection of ales (my favourite) but they do have Hophouse 13 so we were OK. The quiz was great fun with a very good quiz master. Recommended.

Busy town centre pub. Barman seemed quite surly but maybe I upset him by visiting when it was busy? Gents toilets were awash with what I hoped was water but no attempt was made to clean it up in the hour or so we were there. Reasonable prices for beer and wine. TV, possibly more screens around the pub, was showing sports. Would I visit again? Probably not but it is near to the Derngate theatre so might go in again after a show.

Fantastic!!! My family and I went to the Jubilee party 04/06/12 at the pub and had the most wonderful time. We were made to feel very welcome by all. The atmosphere was very exciting with musicians playing in both the garden and inside the pub in the evening. Pimm's by the jug was the order of the day with an awesome BBQ hog roast and to keep us going was a Spanish like deli-counter. I will certainly be going back soon.

The Mailcoach is well located within Northampton - close to the centre, but far enough away from the younger places.
