Reviews of The Lincolnshire Poacher

Very nice traditional pub. A great selection of drinks at the bar, and very friendly staff who are devoted to making you feel welcome and comfortable. Very nice garden with covered and heated seating also !
A. C.
Outstanding longstanding real ale pub, with lovely character and some remarkable beers on offer.
k. h.
Brilliant range of ales etc food absolutely gorgeous
Staff very helpful especially the lady who served us our meal
T. O. (.
I bumped into an old friend who managed to get a little shed out the back, we had great beer and good times catching up..
S. B.
Mansfield Road often has a bad reputation, but it is home to this king of pubs. A truly incredible place with a great selection of beers and whiskeys. I could happily spend all day here. The Lincolnshire Poacher rules supreme on Mansfield Road and a strong contender for the best pub in the entire city. 10-15 minute walk from the city centre but I promise you it will be worth it.
P. B.
Excellent beers. But the pub is not very friendly and welcoming. I think the staff could chat to customers more if nothing else.
D. A.
Outstanding pub, great selection of drinks, friendly staff, dogs welcome and good atmosphere!
H.
Superb range of real ales, craft beer and proper cider in this friendly traditional pub. The Poacher is a bit of an institution, and well worth the walk up Mansfield Road.
G. J.
Had an excellent venison, rabbit and partridge casserole, quite appropriate given the name of the pub!
K. B.
Really good city pub serving a great selection of hand pulled ales. Excellent food and good service as well. Recommended!
N. N.
The best pub in (near) the city centre by a considerable margin. Excellent real ale, good food, attentive staff, what more could you want?
J.
What's not to like? A great pub with an excellent range of Whiskey and Ales.
S. B.
First time in the place for a long time. Met up for a few drinks before a reunion meal elsewhere. Live music was being set up which sounded good. Atmosphere was lively and the beer excellent. Always been a popular pub.
A. H. (.
The best of the Castle Rock pubs in Nottingham if you ask me. Excellent range of beers and spirits, friendly and knowledgeable staff and plenty of room with a decent beer garden. Shall make this a regular stop!
m. s.
Lovely pub and outside area with a couple of beach huts for keeping the rain off and also they have a heater enclosed. Beer consists of a good range of well kept real/cask etc. Unfortunately the kitchen opens around 2pm on a Saturday, but they very kindly made a couple of rolls for myself and the missus. Just wish it was not up a long hill, can't wait for every thing to get back to the old normal. A Castle Rock pub.
R. C.
What a great pub 👌 great inside space and outside really enjoyed the visit
D. H.
Nice little boozer, friendly bar staff, reasonably priced drinks, very mixed clientele.
J. d. B.
If you like whiskey, go here. Fantastic selection, with a very knowledgeable team behind the bar.
M. W.
Nice cosy pub, friendly barstaff, good outdoor seating options, dog-friendly.
J. F.
Last time I was here was 40 years ago and whilst shops on the Mansfield Rd have come and gone I'm happy that this place retains it's friendly atmosphere. A downhome pub with a decent selection of beers and spirits, no juke box, no hipsters and sadly no seafood hawker- where did the time go!
p. c.
Fantastic choice of whiskeys and a city pub that feels like the local pub you would wish for near where you live...
L. M.
Great pub on the Mansfield Road. Fine selection of drinks. The whisky collection is next level top draw.
The out door space is welcoming and has these little sheds done up you can sit in.
Staff are friendly. And the patrons are a good mix of people. Never had a bad experience. Which is saying something for Nottingham.
One of the longest standing up and running establishment on that stretch which is also a good sign.
J. C.
Amazing pub, just in the the city during the week. Service was amazing, pints on cask were phenomenal and the atmosphere on a Wednesday was perfect. Would go every night if I lived in the area!
A. G.
Great place a real pub, with good beer, friendly staff, highly recommended
b. o. t.
Always got a great selection of real ales and guest beers.the staff are friendly and know about the products, food dietary requirements are catered for and there's a cracking outside area.
V. F.
Great pub, so glad to be back! They have worked hard to make the outside area welcoming and safe and have made a good job of it. The beer was excellent as always.
R. D.
Brilliant staff. Great selection of Beer, Cider and spirits including a top shelf whiskey selection. Well worth a visit.
C. C.
One of Nottingham's best pubs. Excellent range of real ales, (I haven't counted the pumps but well above average) about half are from Castle Rock Brewery the others are guest beers. Excellent ambiance, really friendly clientele and dogs are allowed. They also serve very good pub food.
N. T.
Good pub, excellent choice of beers and ciders.
Picture is one small part of it!
C. v. B.
Fabulous Range Of Real Ale. One of the best if not the best pubs in Nottingham for quality of the Beer. Excellent food to although not as cheap as a Wetherspoons chain pub. Plenty of room if you want to sit. Little bit further out from the city centre.
C. U.
If you like kind of quiet chilled pubs then this is perfect. There's a big beer garden with covered and heated booths to chill in. There's also a huge range of beer and whiskey. Overall a good place.
Z. G.
An excellent real ale pub, outstanding in fact. It has an amazing range of ales to the point where it's actually very exciting to order a pint that you've never had before. I had a Veggie Sausage Cob here and it was great.
m. w.
Castle Rock pub, excellent quality in everything they do. Excellent choice of beers and whiskies as well as food. Often have live music that can be variable. It even has a good smoking area.
D. B.
Fairly quiet for a Saturday night.comfortable drinking areas.usual great choice of real ales ,if a little expensive.
A. B.
Nice cozy atmosphere.
It sells real ales.
The Sunday lunch was very nice, I'm vegetarian and they offered two veggie options on the menu as well as three different types of meat.
The staff are really friendly and helpful.
A. B. (.
Great local ales with a huge range of choice which changes every week. Even better selection from the literal wall of whiskeys behind the bar. Plus the food's good too! Try a Wednesday night from 9pm for some of the best live music in Nottingham.
R. C.
Nice location not far from city centre but quiet and free from the craziness of student Saturday night. Great range of whiskeys. Definitely a good place for a quieter drink and catch up with friends.
P. d. W.
One of the best pubs in Nottingham. Full of charm, great selection of of beers and ales and newly refurbished loos! Very friendly atmosphere (pub, not loos) and the best snug I've seen.
M. M.
One of the best pubs in Nottingham for real ale, if not *the* best. Owned by Castle Rock brewery, it has a couple of their beers and then a whole load of guests making up a regular 12 or 13. Engages enthusiastically in mild and stout month promotions. Also boasts about 50 whiskies making it a must for whisky fans locally. Doesn't do so well with hot drinks (tea is just 'tea'). Food is above average for pubs with decent vegetarian range. Crisps are Seabrook. The Poacher has several different zones with different ambiances: the main bar can be live and noisy; the snug behind it quiet and secluded; the conservatory at the back relaxed and expansive; and outside is the open-air seating area for smokers and those who like the elements. The main bar sometimes hosts live music. The pub also has an upstairs room (sadly not wheelchair-accessible) which can be rented by groups for £10, free for first occasion.
B. K.
Always a damn good selection of ales, always enough darks and the food is proper home made stuff, witha varied menu. Very good selection of whiskeys. Really nice place inside, cozy and wood everywhere, rather than "trendy" neons and chrome, very chilled.
R. F.
Brilliant real ale pub with a fantastic choice of beers and whiskies. The only place in Nottingham I've found which sells Octomore. Lovely atmosphere and helpful bar staff.
M. L.
Lovely traditional pub with a fantastic selection of real ales and really friendly staff. Sensibly priced beer. Clean and charismatic.
T. L.
A nice place to start the night just before heading into the city centre. Fantastic range of drinks. And nice little huts to sit in outside with the heater on. Toilets could do with an upgrade.
H. C.
Great atmosphere and good vibes
M. B.
Another great pub if you like real ale - and pork scratchings! Lots of tasty beer on offer here as well as the usual bar food fayre. It was very busy when we popped in, but that just means it's doing something right!
L. T.
One of 25 pubs managed by or tenanted for Castle Rock Brewery in the East Midlands... spread from Loughborough to York but focused around Nottingham. A drinkers' pub, frequented by lucky locals. Stunning range of ales (with a good selection of their own award-winning Castle Rock range), whiskeys, ciders (including perry) and proper lagers. Home-made food served all day. Bar, snug and beer garden. Well worth a visit but 15 minutes walk out of the city centre... or less by bus. Easily beats the well known chains. All the staff know all aspects of the job AND the products. Free Wi-fi and a comprehensive selection of the days' newspapers. Lots of beer and brewing-related books and magazines available. Dogs welcome.
C. s.
Great atmosphere and spacious enclosed beer garden dog friendly wide range of draft ales and a good menu of traditional foods also live music act's.. Top pub in my opinion well worth a visit
A. K.
Couldn't tell if guy serving was making fun of us for asking which beers were vegan. He didn't know, but we worked out for ourselves which. Lots of vapists in garden if you're averse to fruity smoke best avoid there.
J. J.
This place has an array of some of Nottinghams finest home ales & also a fantastic selection of whiskies, gins and brandys & other spirits. Its cosy pleasant & a very traditional English pub👍🏾😁
B. C.
Fantastic pub. Castle Rock brewery pub. Brilliant selection of real ales and whisky. Good food at reasonable prices. Lovely beer garden. Daily selection of newspapers to peruse, to boot.
S. R.
An old-fashioned, old school, just the way it should be pub. Has a great selection of tasty ales and a few great lagers on draft...hop house 13 and bittburger which if not tried i highly recommend!!! Make sure to check out the outdoor area with the quirky sheds you can sit in!!!
J. C.
Great selection of beer. Nice friendly and traditional
K. U.
Decent pub with decent people.
T. H.
Sunday lunch as good as it ever was. Great food, great value (2 courses plus pint, £12). Downside... NO atmosphere. We were the only people eating! Why isn't this place packed?
G. H.
Great old pub from days past
A. R.
Delicious Sunday roast and fruit crumble. Quick and friendly service. Clean, comfortable, and inviting atmosphere in the pub. I would highly recommend the Poacher!
A. B.
Aye decent. The " Ham Salad Cob" (c'mon guys, it's a Ham Salad Roll!) was class, really fresh salad and proper ham, massive "cob", and all for £3. Bargain. Plus, they have my favourite lager and favourite brandy. Will be back!
K. T.
Surly barman spoiled the visit. Beer was good as usual, but you need a proper warm welcome to be amongst the best. A bit of a shame as other visits have been much better.
I. S. A.
I fell in love with this pub the first time I've walked in. There's a huge selection of spirits and the draft beers are really good, also both of the inside and the outside areas are very cosy. I'm glad I found it!
J. B.
Great atmosphere and food and drink
J. B.

What happened to pubs with a choice of ales?
They're called the Lincolnshire Poacher in Nottingham. 9 ales on offer.
As a Castle Rock pub it features one or two of their own brews. But as one is the CAMRA beer of the year winner from way back, Pale Harvest, that's hardly pushing the brand.
Beer perfectly kept
I had a pint of the said Pale Harvest and also a pint of Wye Valley HPA. Not quite as good but went down well.
Can only recall St Austell Proper Job which was popular but my photo gives you a fuller list.
The clientele were a somewhat addled mix of unpretentious locals.
Has a slightly work around the edges feel and look. Complimented by the multo instrumented Country and Western band playing. Wednesdays and Sundays are.l7ve music nights.
I was too late to try the grub but a good mix on offer.
It's not your bog standard chain or retro pub or faux on trend pub.
For me that's a big plus. A dying breed of pub that needs our support.
Go!
A. H.
Place where you can discover magic of local beer. Absolutely Friendly staff. Close enough to the city centre.
A. H.
One of the best pubs in Nottingham. Friendly staff, good beer including bottled imports. Decent food and nice heated outdoor sheds.
B. B.
Go and enjoy a sociable drink and chat. This place has plenty of choice for the ale and whisky drinker, and there's plenty of choice for the non drinker.
Get out. Socialise. Make friends and talk to friends. Alternatively, stay home and do exactly what George Orwell said would happen. YOU CAN KEEP US TOGETHER!
I. C.
Best beer selection in Nottingham. No jukebox or fruit machine. A place to meet, drink and chat, and my dog loves it too. Good selection of whisky and whiskey
r. h.

d. t.
Great Sunday roast, friendly staff, will recommend to friends.
A. W.
One of Nottingham's first pubs to dedicate itself to the new era of real ale, and still does it well. A large pub, with ample outdoor area, even when busy doesn't feel overly so.
T. m.
Great range of beers and ciders, food looks good although I did not eat there. Nice atmosphere.
A. M.
Great pub. A fine selection of local and international beers and spirits. Knowledgeable staff. Snug and a "book swap" corner.

M. B.
Great pub, very friendly and knowledgeable staff. A fabulous range of beer and Cider, highly recommended.
P. F.
The lady behind the bar stood at one end of the bar and didn't approach me just nodded her head and said yes. I asked what ciders were available and was told Stowfords. I asked if that was all and was told yes so I said ok when I had a chance to look round I discovered that there were a lot more. When I queried this I was told they were traditional ciders as if they were something else. I'm not happy as Stowfords isn't my favourite cider
p. h.
