C. S.Sunday Lunch menu is good with plenty of options. The food is great and the staff are very friendly. Service today was a little slow. Possibly COVID related.
Thems some BIG plates. Great Yorkies.
Beer garden is great in the summer. Ventilation in toilets could use some improvement.
n. v.Although the drinks are a bit pricey compared to other pubs in the area its a nice place with the best beer garden. Monday pizza nights are the best!

R.Lovely old pub with a great atmosphere and friendly staff who can tell you a bit about the history of the place if you're interested (Lewis is very knowledgeable) and there are caves beneath your feet! Beer and Cider samples on offer, an extensive range of spirits, occasional live music and very dog friendly. Nice tiered beer garden too. Didn't have any food but looked pretty decent from what I saw. Definitely worth the 10 minute walk up from the city centre.
B. T.The SJB quickly became our favourite local. It has a good range of beers and drinks; excellent food catering to a wide variety of dietary needs/preferences; great outdoor seating in the summer; lovely staff; and of course very dog friendly. Highly recommended!

This would have been nearer to £120 in my home town. Definately worth visiting. Food menu looks great but didn't eat. Lovely atmosphere and great bar staff. Nice to see this place still have jugs for ale.

It has its own outside bar serving Lupoloid on draught (plus many more) and a good range of spirits. Blankets are on offer for those who are nesh. Will be an excellent place to spend a summers evening! Roll on Summertime! 😎

Dog-friendly (the owners have a dog that often wanders around), and great range of beers.

Loads of great beers, taps, bottles, cans.
They do little beer festivals every so often, these are good as you can get a nice bit of food here too.

M.Shows the difference in establishments when I can buy two real ales here for £6.50 and it was double that two pubs down. Classic Victorian styled boozer that looks freshly decorated and well looked after.
G. P.Regularly drink here as the beer garden is fantastic, staff always friendly and helpful. Had Sunday dinner with a friend last week and really enjoyed it. Manager fitted us in right at the end of food service and we had the roast beef and nut roast. The veggie option was a little bit dry but the beef was nice and both meals were good value. Highly recommended, best pub in the area (even against some stiff competition from Hand and Heart, Organ Grinder).

S. B.This historic pub, remains a popular place to visit in an ideally located position on the main approach into the city. Canning Circus is well known to locals as the area is dominated by good bars and eateries.
Sir John itself, is a nice relaxing place with a great selection of beers, predominantly by the Lincoln Green brewery that are very nice, but there are always others on offer. Food is available and there is also an outside area that is quite unique given its location.
Would always recommend to all, as it is part of a very vibrant drinking scene.

T. T.I used to love this pub, bar staff are excellent. When trying to be seated the manager was extremely rude and dismissive of what I said and made me feel very unwelcome. Unfortunate as this pub is on my doorstep and I used to very much enjoy it.
Don't like to leave a scathing review, but the way I was treated didn't leave too much room for an alternative.
Excellent place, but the manager really ruined it.
Just to clarify, this wasn't due to government guidelines as I came back to the pub when there was room. I was rudely removed from the pub without raising my voice or uttering a word in anger.
After revisiting the pub and speaking with the manager I have adjusted the star rating on account of good service.

N. C.This pub is located away from the city centre so mostly visited by locals. It is a big venue with multiple rooms and a lively backyard and terrace. They also have access to Nottinghams caves system located directly under the pub. Selection of drinks is impressive and the service is always nice and friendly. We have never waited longer than a few minutes to be served regardless of how busy it was. The pub has got its own unique look and thanks to partly covered courtyard situated at the back you can still enjoy outside even when it rains. The toilets are clean and looked after during the day. I personally really enjoy this place and highly recommend it to everyone. They also serve food (haven't tried yet but looks good).

P. L.A multi room pub in Canning Circus, noted for its attractive interior terrace in the summer. The Lincoln Green beers offer an excellent core range of real ale and there's a matching half dozen or more guest ales. Good gin range as well and many people like the pizza and fish and chips. Can get busy weekend evenings.

Nice position at the top of street past cathedral makes it easy to locate, the pub was also open and welcoming on a Monday lunchtime when most others around where shut!

T. G.Great pub, ever changing selection of ales which can have the downside of if you like one it will eventually be replaced by another. However this constant rotation is great for trying a wide variety. Even larger selection of gins ginh frequent tasting events which I will attend at some point. Food is tasty, not tried the new menu but it has a selection of vegan options which is always good to see .
g. p.Lovely pub with a nice variety of gins and other spirits - excellent service from the bar staff who were all very friendly and also helpful when offering drink suggestions/combinations. A real perk of this pub is a lovely outside seating area. Only downside is it is a bit pricey but considering everything you can see why.
T. P.Lovely pub. In my opinion it is one of the nicest in Nottingham. It stands out from some of the very modern pubs and bars nearby due to its homely decor including a real fireplace! It has a great selection of craft beers and ciders and much more. The only thing left for me to do is try the food!

J. K.Wow they've improved recently! It was a very busy and hot day when we visited, so the new beer garden was very welcome. The beer was good and the people too. The fifth star would have been awarded if it were not for the lack of card payment at the second bar and some of the horrendously overpriced ale. I should note this was limited to a few, but still £7 a pint?
P. M.Food was good except it took almost until most people had finished their meal before one person got their meal. The staff were lovely except there was some confusion over the bill at the end. We had a party of 9. I paid for the drinks and my own food yet everybody paid for their own food at the bar after we had finished. I questioned the 1st bill I got and after a while it was halved lol. Still had a lovely time and I do like the Sir John. Will be back again soon.

The interior is quite traditional though some areas are littered with empty alcohol bottles that gives it a "student digs" vibe. Unfortunately they have a £5 minimum spend on card. Nice pub bar these few flaws.
