Good place for lunch. Accepts online reservation, although it's so big you may not need one. Food was good, if a bit too salty, as most pub food is. Food arrived in 10 minutes, which is super quick by any standard. And finally, thank you Nell for the lovely service!

The food was incredible!! The mushy peas were amazing and the fish and chips and starters were great as well! Loved the order by phone and the toilet was incredible space as well. Food and the drinks were great but the customer service let them down. A lot of the staff really felt like they did not wanted to serve the customers and when we asked for water, we were asked to get it ourselves which was ok but it could have been said nicer. A lot of the tables were not cleaned so if this can be fixed it will be even better. The insides atmosphere is quite different to the garden outside so having some continuation will be even better. Incredible food thou!!

The food was excellently prepared by Joe (chef) and served by Nell (the kindest and friendliest waitress). We chose 2 Dirty burgers as mains, which were one of the best burgers I've had in the UK ( I try one in every town/city I visit): the meat was of good quality, perfectly grilled and soft to bite. The Caesar salad was also very tasty. Unfortunately, no pictures uploaded of the burgers, as they were consumed immediately :) As dessert, we selected the churros and the toffee pudding: both were very rich, flavourful and tasty and, especially the churros, were on a different level! The Red Lion is a definite "must visit" for food when in Oxford-I know I will !!!

Lovely pub, central Oxford. Has a good range of drinks to choose from, excellent service by Jordan. Haven't eaten here but the meals look good. Comfy seats, nice outdoor area. Superb clean toilets. Would Recommended a visit and will definitely be coming back!

I think that the outside seating and interior design for this establishment is some of the best in the area. My only improvement would be speed of service. I did have to wait 10 minutes to get served one round of drinks because there was only one person behind the bar at the time. I understand that the service industry is struggling nationally for lack of staff so completely understandable. I haven't tried the food, but all the meals I observed did look very presentable so might have to give it a try one day. I still would recommend going here, especially to enjoy the garden.

Recently refurbished and refreshed menu. Date night experience was amazing with the help from Nell who was ever diligent with my allergies and made sure everything I ordered was safe for me to eat and she made sure we had everything we needed. Very nice pub, lovely interior and an outside area with lots of seating. Really lovely toilets, clean and roomy. We had 2 bowls of chips, which were very nice, went to the bar to get some more and were told that the chef had gone home and they didn't have any other staff to cook them. 🙁 It was my granddaughter's 20th birthday but unfortunately the drinks were too expensive so we had to leave to go somewhere cheaper.

Very expensive for the quantity of food. I had the crispy duck bao bun and didn't even had a tablespoon of duck. Friends had the scallops and for nearly £12 only had three scallops that were tough. I had the seabass for main course and it only had two small new potatoes underneath the fish. Very disappointing and expensive for what it is!

The service was a little slower than we had initially expected but when it arrived the food was delicious and the portion sizes were very generous! Came to the Red Lion by chance while out looking for an impromptu Friday evening dinner. We were accommodated without a booking, the staff were extremely friendly, welcoming and attentive. We tried a delicious cocktail recommended by the waiter. For dinner we shared a baked Camembert which was divine followed by the Chateaubriand steak which was cooked to perfection and tasted phenomenal. What a fantastic find. Have already planned to come back for a birthday with friends. Definitely worth a visit!

Went to lunch last Saturday to meet some friends we hadn't seen for a long time. One of our group is pregnant and quite cautious about the covid situation so we asked to be seated in a quieter spot. I came to the red lion for a weekend lunch with my fiancé a few weeks ago: I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. I am not normally one to leave reviews but the Sunday lunch experience received here today certainly merits one. The roast dinners were to die for and nothing seemed to be too much for our waitress Nell who was one of the mostly lovely youngsters I have ever met: chatty, polite and highly skilled and competent. The toilets are also exquisite…. Photo attached! All the staff deserve a huge round of applause for an excellent team effort on what was clearly a hectic day; it’s well worth a visit.

Went there for a Sunday lunch after Oxford Half Marathon. There were 30 of us so we preordered which was straightforward. The service, food and drink were all excellent. They put us in our own separate area which worked perfectly for such a big group. We all thought the food was great (especially my brie and lamb) and really good value for 3 courses for £25. The Red Lion staff were really attentive and also accommodating when one of our party couldn't make it and amended the order with no problem. They made the experience really easy and special. Would definitely recommend for big groups or if coming from outside of Oxford as pub is in great location if heading to the train station after

Mens toilets were nice, womens toilets were incredible according to my wife and daughters who spent 10 mins just taking pics of themselves in there. The food was really good. The food was a little slow to come out and the waiter ( who I think was new and a touch nervous) was very apologetic about it but it wasn't a problem. The place was so nice, you didn't mind spending more time in there than you had to. Actually thinking about it, the food was very nice. Just thought I should pull more attention to it. Give it a go

Spent 2 hours here today in the garden, really very pleasant, I had booked a table and they gave us a choice when we arrived, ordered on the table barcode and drinks came very promptly, later ordered food which came in a good time, my cod and chips was lovely, really hot and the chips were handmade and very tasty, margarita pizzas were good and cheeseburger with fries was yummy (not all for me I may add 🤭) the washrooms were beautiful and spotlessly clean. Positioned 2 minutes walk from either the New Theatre or the Playhouse. Overall a great visit and I would recommend 😁

Very nice, quirky pub. Food is fantastic albiet on the higher end of cost. The atmosphere was very nice and our servers were very friendly! The décor is a cross between random shapes and colours that pulls the whole room together. Take a look at the menu in advance. The dirty cheese burger with the beef dripping sauce and the Hoi sin duck salad were both very very good!

I've been here a few times with friends. It is quite difficult ordering food here as I am gluten free and there isn't a dedicated gluten free menu. Last time someone had to come round with a confusing interactive dietary menu on an ipad, and I had to sign some terms and conditions before I could order, which was a bit alarming, and seemed weirdly complicated. Plus several of the staff who came to help me with it told me they weren't trained in it which was concerning for a dietary requirement, and didn't fill me with optimism. However I ordered some fries that they oven baked and it didn't make me ill, so I was happy with that. I mainly come here for drinks though with friends and it is a lovely atmosphere. All of my non-gluten free friends enjoyed their meals too!

The online ordering system went down for a while which was not ideal for the pub on a busy night however Alfie remained very calm and professional and work very well under pressure ensuring that everyone got their drinks. Thank you so much for a lovely evening, it was a great atmosphere and I will definitely visiting the Red lion again next time I visit Oxford. The veg left a bit to be desired but was fine. It is great that they offer bottomless gravy so make sure you ask for more if you need it! I was lacking stuffing on my plate when it first arrived. The waitress was very apologetic and brought TWO replacement stuffing pieces, which were delicious! All in all, a nice afternoon!

We was greeted at the door by Stuart who showed us round the pub before seating us and introducing us to our server who was Joe. Joe quickly come over and took our drinks order before explaining the menu through to us! His menu knowledge was brilliant was able to answer all questions about the menu, even recommending his favorite starter and main course which was a starter off: Octupas and chirizo and main course of the Pork belly!
