I ordered Fish and chips, but was not very satisfied with the taste. The fish seemed a bit stale and it was overfried - so much so that you can see in the picture below that it has turned brown. The chips, on the other hand, was incredibly good. The service is good and the staff are friendly. Located right in the heart of city, The Plough is quite popular but my personal experience with fish and chips wasn't the very best. I have tried much better fish & chips at much lower prices.

Best place for a sunday roast. The belly pork was divine. Skin was super crunchy. Hats off to the chef. Staff where amazing very welcoming and accommodating. After 6hr ride in the cold from london to oxford they gave us much needed blankets to keep us warm and toasty, u are all life savers. Thank you for making our Oxford experience awesome. Great service! The staff were super friendly and attentive. The drinks came out quickly, and the fish and chips took quite a while but were well worth the wait. The chips may be the thickest and crunchiest I've ever had. Such a pleasure! It was obvious they'd just been made and not heated as in some other places. The fish itself while a little oily was delicious and done to perfection. The tartar sauce could use a smudge less salt but still the entire experience was wonderful! Will definitely come again.

Visiting Oxford for a holiday. Wandering through the town we spotted this bar and decided to stop for some refreshment. We were promptly seated and presently served. The server was fantastic, offering a friendly, professional and courteous manner. The drinks and food arrived as ordered, despite us both having - let's say - particular requirements. Apart from the sausage roll, the portions are very very small, so 3 stars for the sausage roll. The fries portion was too small even for our 6 year old.

Absolutely brilliant night spent here! The food, service and drinks were of the highest order! Any problems we had were dealt with in an efficient, friendly and timely manner. We were always made to feel welcome, even when we sat in the wrong seats. This was not a problem we were accommodated to an alternate seat and on fact it was even better than where we sat! The food was exquisite! Would recommend and have already done so to family and friends. Even if you are just passing by through the high street ask of they have a free table and you won't regret it!! This place is a historical old Pub in Oxford. I had the cheddar Ploughman sandwich and the person I was with had the chicken burger. They had a good selection of vegetarian options. The fries were delicious and they had fountain soda. They had a good selection of outdoor seating (with umbrellas and heaters) and had indoor seating as well. The service was great! Definitely recommend.

Amazing place with a lovely room setting, a touch of modern in middle of antique one, the food very nice and tasty also BUT i waited almost 65 min (1:05 min) for a chicken hamburger!!! OK, was a busy day but was to much thought. Luckily I wasn't hurry.

Shared the beef pie for lunch. A little disappointed that there was really no sauce, just beef covered with some pastry along with mashed potatoes and flavorful veggies. Service fine and nice convenient spot in the main part of town. Nice inside but the air conditioner was blaring so being something if you get cold easily!

Amazing experience with great food and great service! Visited the plough recently and I have to say it’s one of the best afternoons I’ve had in Oxford. Service was amazing throughout, with fantastic help from one of the bar people Jack. I had the plough fish and chips which I can not recommend highly enough. Overall a great experience.

I had a really delicious fish and chips, perfectly cooked. I would highly recommend the polenta chips, the truffle mayonnaise was perfect. For desert, a gooey chocolate brownie, absolutely heaven!

The menu is reduced during covid (April 2021) and it's just....ok. Plenty of outdoor seating and friendly staff. You will need a reservation. Right in the heart of Oxford and a stones throw from Westgate car park.

Lovely transformation of this historic building in Oxford. Great modern bar and restaurant. Although the original wooden staircase remains, which is charming. Great bar with plenty of Ales, wine and funky vodka and Gins. It's a real feature to see the Brewing room for the Ales behind the bar. The restaurant is bright and airy and we were seated in the window. The menu is modern and not badly priced. The staff were very friendly and our waitress was attentive. The food was lovely, great fresh ingredients. Highly recommended.

This is the first restaurant I visited in Oxford and it was delicious!! I went with the 3 course and didn’t regret it one bit. Myself and a group friends came here for a Sunday roast and the Food was amazing! However, One waitress was quite rude and made us feel very unwelcome. I asked her for gravy with my roast and she brought out the wrong one to go with my meal (I am vegetarian and I was brought beef gravy) and about 15 minutes later. We are all students and asked for the discount which was displayed in the window, she refused to give us the discount and only subtracted half of the enormous customer service fee.

A genuinely amazing Gastropub! Not only was the Veggie roast amazing but so was the staff serving us! They are dog-friendly (always a plus, especially after going to other places which didn't allow us to sit inside on a cold day) and they're very keen to make your experience a great one. Great location, great atmosphere and great lunch - Pasquale was very welcoming and attentive and keen to ensure we had a great experience but all the staff were provide good customer service. We chose the fish and chips. The drinks arrived quickly but the food did take longer. However, it was a busy lunchtime and when the food arrived it was hot and clearly freshly cooked and was lovely. One portion of fish had excessive amount of batter but there was still plenty of fish. Personally, I would prefer if we had one host to deal with during our visit as I think every member of staff asked us if everything was ok with our food at some point which is excessive. We would definitely visit again. Thank you

Booked a table for 7 this Friday just gone. Ordered starters, mains and desserts plus cheese board. All the courses were excellent with 5 steaks all cooked to perfection and how we ordered them. Nothing seemed too much for the staff and the wide range or beers and wines was refreshing. It was busy but we were well looked after. The vegan in our party was also very impressed with the choice and very much enjoyed his Pulled Mushroom Burger. All in all a fab night out. Would highly recommend.

Good location and great friendly staff however I would be very careful about going there on a chilly evening. We had specifically asked to be seated next to heaters however on arrival were told that this was only afforded to groups of 6 (we were a group of 3). The staff offered us blankets however which was kind and we ended up having a pleasant evening. Service and atmosphere are both nice and there is a wide range of drinks however the food is underwhelming - would not recommend their burgers, portions are very tiny, and not worth the price.

I went into The Plough after a walking tour of Oxford. I had a pint of Guinness and Vegatarian Pie which was absolutely delicious. Even though the place was established in 1665 I was not sure if this was a restaurant or a bar. I was looked after by Max. Message to management look after after him, he is good. I will definitely be going back when I am next back in Oxford.

For a party of 6, some of the food came out cold, specifically the greens served with the pie, and the chips were mostly grease. However these issues were solved very quickly, by an amazing pair of servers, and overall the experience was great. I'd definitely recommend the mussels, the amount for the price is definitely worth it. The bathrooms are also accessable and completely gender neutral, featuring no urinals. I'd definitely recommend to anyone if you're in Oxford.

This place is awesome. The guy on the door is a true legend and gentleman. He will do his best to get you sat, even when the table is reserved 30 mins later he will juggle things to accommodate. The pies are absolutely amazing and they know how to pour a good beer. Thank you to all the staff and legend door man (Paul or Chris, I was a little drunk hehe) for a great evening. I will be back.

The restaurant was lovely so much character. Disappointed with my fish dish as arrived cold as did the rest of the dish. Returned the food and was asked did I want it reheated or a fresh one! Obviously requested a fresh dinner, but had to wait about 10 minutes which meant my husband had finished his and I had to eat my alone. The cheese board was pathetic. On the bright side, our waitress was amazing and couldn't be more helpful.

I used to pass this establishment when it was a Gents Outfitters & when it shut I was gutted!! But what they have done to this building is amazing. Both downstairs & upstairs have a lot of character & ambience. I've only been in with friends for drinks but the next time it's for food. Give it a try yourself. The Plough wasn't a cheap option but we don't like fast food places which were all very busy so opted for a two course special. The service was attentive and the food very good although small portions. The staff were accommodating as we had to be at our meeting place for 1. 50 pm. A lovely unhurried experience.

The place has a nice feel to it and it's not as expensive as the location or decor would suggest. Good selection of local XT beers and quite a pleasant atmosphere. Staff weren't overly friendly but certainly not unfriendly. Doesn't really have a wow factor but I'd go again for a drink if I spotted a seat through the massive windows.

Food is excellent, service is amateurish. Great to see a place like this opening up in Oxford and the person in the kitchen clearly knows what they're doing - interesting dishes (I had the potato risotto it was tasty, skilful and clever), but serving staff are casuals - not their fault at all but they are just plate-carriers and it lets the place down versus its aspiration (compared to Ship St for example). If they iron that out then I think this could become really nice place.
