Reviews of The Britannia Inn - JD Wetherspoon
V.
Went for breakfast twice and have to say worse spoons for portion size I've ever known. The place was clean and had a nice seating area outside and service was fast but it seemed like the food had been sat under heat lamps just waiting to go out or reheated. I don't know how their selection is later in the day but I'd suggest going for breakfast earlier as I went both days around 10 -11.30am maybe it's better if your there for opening ?
D. D.
Got a little worse for wear, the alcohol just hit me quickly. After working in hospitality for many years I know how annoying people like me can be. Have pinned it on exhaustion and lack of eating.
The staff were superb and I can't fault them in the slightest. Thanks guys for the support that night.
I don't however recommend the rosè wine (I'm still blaming it 🤣)
W. J.
Great example of a traditional yet quirky Wetherspoons!
The standard food and drink menu you'd expect from a spoons, however the pub itself is an interesting 'C' shape and has a large patio beer garden outside.
S. B.
We went here on Tuesday to Celebrate a friends Birthday it was steak night so I ordered a Surf and Turf with all the trimmings it was well nice and of course had with a couple of cheeky glasses of red wine.
N. B.
Very relaxed wetherspoons, me and my friend visited after swimming at the life centre. Table service was fast and the staff were so lovely and it seemed like they were happy to be there. It's accessible for many different medical conditions and disabilities and there's no horrendous stairs to the bathroom for once.(that's what spoons are known for) the atmosphere was lovely and although small it seemed really homely.
T. A.
Went for a meal before going to the theatre of greens. Staff were good, polite and friendly. The food was tasty and arrived fairly quickly and hot.
J. O.
Solid pub, interesting old building and usual loe price and decent service from spoons. Not too rowdy but does get busy after a footy match.
m. r.
We went hear when October fest was on at Central Park, was absolutely packed out but turned out to be a great event..
T. F.
Reasonably priced food, nice atmosphere and clean bathrooms. Only issue I have is lack of options for dietary needs.
C. C.
I don't want to shock anyone who has not been to this spoons before - but the toilets are on the ground floor. We were so focused looking for stairs we missed them!
Only stayed for one drink but the place was clean, service was speedy and the outside drinking area was really inviting - a great little suntrap!
R. C. (. W. W.
A pleasant Spoons for a late night drink, did Black Dragon, service good. Useful for Plymouth Argyle FC
M. V.
Good food and atmosphere service using the pub app worked a treat will certainly use again
C. F.
Really quick service but a little shabby and could do with some sprucing up, not up to Wetherspoons usual standard.
M.
A clean and friendly pub. Nice beer garden and selection of beers
p. m.
Good breakfast but no sugar for the coffee had to ask 3 times for sugar
Not good if you're in a rush
S. L.
Very nice food and very good price. Staff were very friendly and helpful
C. B.
Cheap food. Decent amount for the price. Can't complain!
M. D.
Got to love a spoons, the staff at the Britannia are always friendly, there's more of a family feel here than other spoons I have been to, depending on the time of day you visit of course.
It's clean, as standard the drinks are cheap and there's an outdoor area too, spot on. 👌
J. W.
Great atmosphere 😃👍🏻
A. W.
Food was good but could have done with people clearing the tables quickly
K. G.
Just like every other Witherspoon you have ever been to good price's on there food and beer quite a few people there
L. L.
Really great quality food and helpful staff. I tried the vegan breakfast and it was so tasty. Especially liked that you can have a Thatcher's gold cider in the morning just as a nice treat!
H. R.
Great food, nice atmosphere, always bargain prices
C. P.
Service and food very good and it was warm. Service fantastic.
G. M.
As always a standard spoons! But toilets on the same level as everything else! Lovely beer garden too
J. H.
Lots of choice, child friendly and pleasant staff.
a. k.
Good value for money, comfortable, and always a nice visit.
K. M.
Good service by the staff. Excellent facilities, clean & tidy. Great selection of food. Will go again 👍
P. S.
Football pub, great for pre-match drinks but you need to get there very early to get a table for food. Staff are friendly and work their socks off on game days. Outdoor seating also available so don't be put off if the bar area is packed.
P. B.
Clean good pub food of good standard normal array of beers for a wetherspoons
L.
I felt so sorry for the overworked two wait staff that I cleaned and cleared some tables whilst waiting for my veggie breakfast. The Quorn sausages were terrifying- what IS Quorn? I mean honestly do we really know? Not their fault about the Quorn but it tasted slippery and bouncy. My daughter enjoyed her burger and my friend liked her usual egg chips and peas and stated egg was perfectly done. The food was as ever completely adequate and very reasonably priced. Please stop doing those pesky sachets, so annoying. Bottomless coffee is great. I was very satisfied to get a nasty stain off table 34, felt chuffed. Good times. Lots of customers are rude and moany but staff relatively chirpy considering.
h.
1st visit and was pleasantly surprised by the food. I've eaten in the weatherspoons on grand parade and won't be eating there again!
But here the portions looked and tasted good. It's a weatherspoons at the end of the day so you get what you pay for.
P. H.
Excellent, well known and large pub at the crossroads of Outland Road and Wolesley opposite central park.
Good beer, fast service.
Lunch and dinner menus. No parking facilities. Well kept and clean smart furniture. Generally nicely run and busy establishment. Always sticky tables.
B. L.
Staff in this pub is friendly. Food is good.
F. M.
Lovely and clean. Great choice of food which was delicious
D.
Fantastic hot food and great ale, what's not to like?
B. W.
It was packed. The food came quickly and was..OK.. but so was the price so..
The staff were great though. In all I've no complaints and would visit again.
S.
Popped in for a quite pint and a catch up with some old friends. What ensued was a horribly thought out drinking game but credit where it's due the staff were fantastic, friendly and happy even with some of the monstrosities ordered. Easily one of the best pubs to stop off for a drink or food in Plymouth.
J. H.
1st rate venue, good quality Real Ale, at a decent price.
L. R.
We called in Saturday 14th May as we were up at the Life Centre at the Comic & Gaming Event, first time I have ever been in The Britannia Inn & we ordered food & a couple of drinks, when our food came I have to say it was Absolutely Delicious 😋 😀 & The Staff That Served us were very Polite,Friendly & Helpful Excellent Service all round Thank You
P. D.
Comfortable and welcoming, locals Wetherspoons. Quick service and well run. Best one in the city.
W. D.
Good selection of ales. Godd service. Update Unfortunately pints were a bit short today 07 June 2019.
K. D.
Nice pub with plenty of seating and friendly staff. Lovely beer garden
T. B.
Great value for money for both food and drink.
C. K.
First time in here, surprised there was no one greeting on the door, but nice enough.
We want into the garden which was lovely In the nice weather.
Ordered food and drinks on the app which were quick to arrive. Chef a lq ping but OK for a cheap lunch!
C. D.
Good location.
Small inside with average beer garden on patio.
Been to worse. Been to better
Good for drinks on football days at Plymouth argyle but very busy from 12 noon
A. R.
Food ok. Affordable prices
F. P.
Pretty OK food for the money, cheap beer and friendly atmosphere.
G. J.
Nice place with friendly bar staff, great prices too.
B. R.
An historic pub, excellent value and where else can you get food on a Sunday night? Perhaps a Chinese or Indian restaurant, but they are not pubs. Downside is no music, and the love it or hate it menu. We quite liked it...
k. k.
Great pre match atmosphere before games , 💚 army
M.
One think you have to say about this place, great staff. for the money food is okay. Drinks are cheap. Free water. Covid safe. Definitely going to be my regular. And when the suns out the beer garden is great. Also offers shade. Best place in the area. If i had to give one fault and this is being nit picking. Currently euros is on and no tv to watch it but again not really a big deal. Just food for thought if you think about going their to watch football.
C. C.
Quick service. Huge food menu.
T. W.
Great pub. The staff & customers are friendly, it's clean, & the beer garden looks decent. Would definitely recommend.
K. P.
Lovely food. Great service. Highly recommend.
L. M.
Had the breakfast wrap. Cheap and cheerful and was tasty. We only waited for just under ten minutes for the food to arrive. Fab
A. O.
It's a Wetherspoon pub. Stopped in for a breakfast & a coffee. Very good better than a lot of greasy spins e I've eaten at. Really nice sausages. If go here for breakfast again.
M. O.
Superb staff,I use it every other Saturday for argyle home games-always a great atmosphere in there, sets me up for the match😁
P.
Went into the Spoons after our covid boosters for a bite to eat, we were brought our food quickly and had a couple of mugs of coffee. Friendly and helpful staff made our visit, well done Brittania.
m. t.
Lovely place to go for a quick drink or a family meal, I have done both. You can download an app from the menu and order from the table or at the bar. On some days it can be busy so there maybe a wait for a table so it might be worth ringing a head especially if you are going with a larger group. Has a lovely large beer garden. Unfortunately there is no parking, but this can be found at the life centre. The building is fully disabled accesable.
T.
It's a nice and cozy place. Customer service is friendly, atmosphere is cool and the selection of drinks and food is not too shabby either. It's worth remembering that this is more a "pub" not restaurant, so don't expect Michelin star dining. Great for a couple of mates or for family. Good place to start a night out too.
C. T.
Nice evening out with friends food was lovely as was the service.
R. B.
Good honest food drinks at good prices
P. M.
You just can't beat a wetherspoons. 👍👍
K. M.
Food and drinks and service staff were great. Unfortunately I asked if it was possible for the outside heater above our table to be switched on only to be told it wasn't working. Had ro move inside once a table became free as my elderly father in law was too cold. Amazingly when other patrons who sat at our vacated table asked for the heater to be turned on it was working. Go figure.
J. C.
Brilliant pub the staff were excellent
M. W.
It seems to have lost its sparkle. Too few staff for too many people. My local and when Wetherspoons took overcwas really happy
Things have changed. Food average staff overworked. Hope management can bring back the buzz
R. M.
Once again good service & nice craft ciders!!
P. M.
Arrived with my party for a reserved table. Very friendly chap gave us all the info we needed re ordering and paying, party was two short because of the illness currently doing the rounds in Plymouth. This was no problem. Only two of us had pre booked meals, the rest had opted for menu meals "on the day". Our orders were dealt with very quickly and all the meals arrived almost together. Our table was well laid out. The staff were very efficient in their dealings with us as well as working with a smile. I had opted for the Turkey Pie as the normal Turkey Christmas meal is, alas, no longer available. I was pleasantly surprised, it was lovely and tasty. My colleagues had various meals and all were well pleased. A very relaxed and tasty meal served by friendly staff. The "still at work" friends had to head off whilst us retirees remained for a chat and an extra drink, there was no rush and we did not feel under pressure to vacate our table. Thank you to the staff, we have been before and will return in a month or two for another get together.
A.
Great local pub with well conditioned Ale and good food. Great place to meet friends and locals. Large beer garden 😀
S. G.
Rule Brittania ! In the heart of Plymouth.this public house serves well its clientele.Opposite the citys Central Park.An outside garden area to the rear has sheltered seating .the menu caters for an all day food service. Staff are attentive and friendly.
M. A.
Breakfast OK. Had evening meal steak was more gristle than meat so was disappointed otherwise was typical wetherspoons. Staff very pleasant and efficient.
J. L.
Good service friendly staff and much cheaper drinks I felt very comfortable with other people around me I would recommend it to others going to the bar
P. “. O.
Great food, brilliant prices and friendly helpful staff!
J. T.
Had an amazing meal and a few drinks. Lovely staff too.
R. H.
It's a Weatherspoons pub restaurant and often busy but the food is pretty good. If you have an issue with your meal (it is a very busy place so it can happen) the staff are great at putting it right. Good range of drinks too, I go there a couple of times each month 🙂 recommended!
A. B.
Food not brilliant and the staff was a bit slow
B.
Great pub, good service, from the 15th of December all weathersoon venues will no longer sell John smiths, carling or fosters, replaced with Budweiser, Corona.
r. w.
Low expectations overwhelmed with top rate food result. Top rate service highly recommend.🍺🍺🍺🍷🍷👍 And we only had tea and coffee 👍
P. K.
Great pub but can be busy, especially at meal times. The food is brilliant, wide variety on the menu, always cooked to perfection. Low prices, I like having a drink included in the price of the meal, don't know how they do it for the price.
M. B.
We've been regulars here for many years. Unlike the other Wetherspoon establishments in Plymouth, Britannia Inn is consistently clean & tidy & the staff are always friendly, polite & very helpful. The food is always excellent & the service is prompt & efficient without being obtrusive. Well done to the staff & we hope you always continue to provide such a fantastic service. From two very happy customers.
p. m.
The outside heater furthest away from the back door has not worked for months. The floor needed sweeping inside. One meal of beef chilli was served without tortilla chips and no sour cream, this was quickly rectified when staff were asked but as it was not busy this should not have happened.
L. B.
It's a good pub but understaffed.... Glass ware and plates of finished meals were left on tables and when they were finally cleared the tables themselves were not wiped clean ready for the next customer. Despite a cleaning rota in the gents it was apparent that this was not actually adhered to. The gents were what can only be described as a mess.
m. A.
Friendly welcoming atmosphere, and prices are very reasonable.
Z.
Typical spoons. Pub food is cheap and cheerful but can sometimes be quite hit or miss. Have had to send food back a few times due to being undercooked but it was always quickly corrected. Would recommend if you don't fancy cooking and they have a family seating area if you wish to visit with your kids.
M. L.
Wetherspoons, can't say much more than that, cheap, good food.
Updated on my recent visit using the app to order food and drinks is perfect so I could sit outside and enjoy the weather and company without having to go in and queue.
S. M.
Nice pub, great food always welcomed with a smile. Has a beer garden out the back.
S. W.
Friendly staff
Very clean
Great atmosphere
Good food
J. A. (.
Nice little restaurant/family pub which has a lot to offer. My only concern is that there can be limited tables of an evening and at weekends. Service is usually really good though and staff are really positive. It's a great place for food as they often have a 'special' on during weekdays.
A. M.
It's a Wetherspoons, most people like a Spoons. As cheap and as cheerful as the day is long. Always a drink on offer and a special menu for each day of the week Tuesday steak night, Thursday curry club etc. A lot of the main meals come with a drink. The Britannia has a great outside seating area. What's not to like?! 😁
A. E.
It has good food, too the point when I'm too full, and good customer service and staff. Frequently, I have found that tables and menus can be a bit sticky though. Temperature can sometimes be a bit cold with relatively long wait for food.
S. J.
Always enjoyable gathering with sister or friends . Felt sorry for i assume new member staff, not seen before when young guy walked up to bar and asked if his drink would be safe in beer garden whilst he left premises short while, bar staff suggested bring it to bar because it may be cleared from table if no one there! Bar staff was pleasant about it, the customer was fowl! Swearing and ranting through pub! He came back few mins later, he didnt deserve to stay. They allow children in the bar area now! So if parents decide to sit in bar area instead of family side not a very nice experience to witness!
N. C.
It's a spoons and one of the better ones in Plymouth
M. B.
Apparently this is the only Spoons in Plymouth that DOESN'T sell pizza which was unfortunate as that's the only reason I actually went to spoons that day.
Drinks were good though
K. W.
Local. Cheap and cheerful. Can get busy on matchdays but food is usually to a high standard. An extensive selection of ales and gin is on offer and a nice beer garden to the rear to enjoy the weather if it's nice. Use of the Weatherspoons app is rather quick also.
L.
Great food, lovely atmosphere to catch up with friends. X
T. S.
The pub was fine. Visited prior to Argyle match against Bristol rovers. The management let themselves down by not having a sufficient amount of staff. Those that were there worked hard despite the moans they were getting. This was a retail/ profit opportunity lost as too long waiting to be served which reduced amount drunk
D. P.
Great value for money.
Great food, lovely and honest staff.
b. W.
Absolutely excellent 👍 recently been to Royal William Yard the hook and line restaurant. Wetherspoons with far more better. 👌
L. B.
Popped in 28.4.18 for a late meal and realised argyle were playing home and the match was about to finish. It was a little bit noisy but it was all good natured fun. I ordered 2 lots chicken fillets for a starter for both of us but the lady behind the bar only ordered 1. Aaron the Duty Manager brought out one, I asked where the other one was and he checked the till and informed us it was only one ordered. He apologised and minutes later out came another plate, I offered to pay but he said "No it was our fault" ...such excellent customer service.
p. n.
I had a lovely evening but I went there for a steak night and they had run out of steak! Not the first time this has happened. Still I ended up with a nice meal, a tasty mixed grill. :-)
M. H.
Still great food and atmosphere and very reasonable prices too
D. W.
Good pub food was good enjoyed it
P. O.
Arrived late after a busy day, and they serve food until 11pm. Was served some really good fish and chips, and a decent pint of ale. Friendly service too.
C. Q.
Great relaxing pub. Weatherspoons so food is at that level. Staff always upbeat. Well run and worth a visit
A. J.
Staff were really friendly and the food was lovely. Not skimped on portion sizes and was served quickly and piping hot. 100% would go again
w. f.
Excellent service and excellent value
B. R.
Good range of food and drinks. Beer garden is good too.
K. T.
What a good bunch of staff and such a lovely littlenpub!!
H. P.
Very good prices for absolutely decent food. Good portions. Friendly service. Overall a real British pub!
J. T.
It's a typical Wetherspoons! Cheap & cheerful, full of ordinary folk ( workers at lunch or those not working) The food is reasonable and cheap, and so is the beer! If you want a poncee cocktail bar that doesn't even have any real ale- go to the poncee Slug & Lettuce!!
G. D.
The only pub within walking distance of the football club so it's absolutely mobbed on match days
E. N.
I've been here before but this time was a different experience. It was 'steak night' and an eat out to help out night so to my dismay I was told they weren't serving steaks 'due to an issue with an extractor fan in the kitchen'.. disappointing but I was tired & hungry so ordered a hunters chicken instead which apparently was still ok to order. Due to the covid response I was advised i could sit at my table & didn't need to wear a mask unless i need to leave the table for anything.. I noticed there were some screens put up between some of the tables & at the bar. No one in the pub was wesring a face mask even those not at a table. I noticed the staff weren't wearing face masks either - even the servers who were bringing food from the kitchen to people sat at the tables.. and clearing glasses from tables/wiping down. My food took about 45mins to arrive. I couldn't understand why as it was quiet in there. Pre covid you could help yourself to condiments & the servers would come and ask if your food was ok.. this time I had to leave my table just to ask for some butter for my potato. Overall I found the experience not great and I'll wait a few more weeks before possibly attempting to come back here again. It is a nice pub but there's obviously some kinks to sort out.
R.
We met relatives for lunch in the garden. The Covid measures were good, the lawned area clean & tidy with fast service and good food.
J. &. E. M.
Good selection of alcohol with good prices
R. M.
Its a nice pub and lots of variety of drink, ive yet to try the food but it does look nice. There is a nice beer garden outside which accomodates alot of people, the service seems a bit up and down however which i think is to do with experience of the staff working there.
J. M.
Friendly staff, clean, a bit noisy and great desserts.
The hand sanitiser smelt like very strong alcohol which made me feel a little sick.
J. U.
Excellent food at a ridiculously low price. Nice and cosy atmosphere with two open fires on the go, very welcoming. Good service with a good selection of real ales.
S. I.
Good beer, excellent food, long wait for service though. Staff are very slow and management dont recognise the need for providing a better service to customers. Good products nice public house, poor management.
m.
The food cheap cheerful and pretty good. The staff are busy but helpful. It's a shame there is no music, but that's a draw for some people
I. B.
The service was friendly and the food was cooked well. presented well, reasonably priced and arrived quickly. As a city chain pub it couldn't be described as cosy but it was comfortable enough. Well worth a visit.
B. N.
Nice atmosphere, friendly staff.
L. C.
Love it.not posh but good value for money.good food and old service.ideal for family's. We ask for large breakfast and another plate to share with young child .it's no trouble.pay for a coffee or tea and top up as much as you want free.how good and affordable is that .it's a smaller cosier of the Wetherspoons
K. C.
Food at good prices.
Great selection of beers at great prices. ........ But ...... Once again let down by not clearing dirty plates and cutlery from tables when people have finished their meals !!! ...... NO EXCUSES !!
D. M.
Beer is great and cheap price. Food is good with a varied menu each day. Great place to socialise and meet people. Stay as long as you want.
S. P.
There were 4 of us and two got their food and the other two got theirs about 5 minutes after which is unacceptable. I had chilli and it had been scrapped from the bottom of the pan as it was a little burnt, luckily I like the burnt bits but some wouldn t.
j. m.
Staff/atmosphere great, Pinot Mixed Grill & Ham n Chips excellent; thank you 👍
R. O.
Probably one of the best Wetherspoons in Plymouth, yes it's frequented by the natives coated in tracksuits, but the service is brilliant, the food comes in a timely manner and the drinks arrive before the food which is pretty important since you ideally want to drink and socialise whilst waiting for food to arrive. Miles ahead of Union Rooms.
H. S.
Had a great meal with my husband and son. Service was good. Didn't have to wait too long for the food.
k. T.
Very shocked, have been to a few wetherspoons but the Britannia is by far the best.food very good, but the service was fantastic. Just gutted that I didn't get the name of the young man that was servings use because he was brilliant
J. B.
Excellent food and great service reasonable prices
S. B.
Staff are nice, foods what you'ed expect. All the springs in the chairs have gone tho, so you sink in to them. I can't find the book about weatherspoons carpets either.
R. W.
Staff were nice, it's a locals pub but nice to be in , nice end to an ambling round plymouth day!
B. W.
Ok, but they didn't have enough fish for fish Friday so I had to go without.Who does the ordering?
That was the same as the Mannamead, I left there because they had no fish Friday so I went to the Brit. Just the same.Wasted my time. Not very happy. Bri.
D. N.
Great food and staff
R. O.
I really like this bar. I have been drinking here for ten years. The beer is choice. There is always a pleasant atmosphere generated by the patrons but the service is awful.
S. H.
Typical weatherspoons, cheap tastless beer, cheap tastless food and always busy because of the cheapness
A. T.
Great service nice little place.
I'll be back again soon
d.
Always busy on Argyle match day's but still get served quicker than some other Weatherspoons pubs and the beer is good
D. R.
Good old standard Wetherspoons really. Nothing much to sing and dance about, good value, staff helpful. We go regularly because of value and usually always get a table.
D. H.
Most people love Wetherspoons for value and price, but The Brit has a really good team of employees who always serve with a smile and a chat. Whether it's a quiet midweek or crazy Friday night. As always with JD.W, top notch building for solid pub atmos.
J.
Lovely today. Ordered drinks and food through app and came in good time. Meal was nice too.
J. M. D. M. G.
Nice place with outdoor seats. In my opinion quality of food and size have decreased and reduced
s. l.
Food was nice husband not happy that u don't get pork chop and lamb chop with the mixed grill and that's what's he looks forward to apart from that lovely
M. T.
Good menu good food good staff & good service. A regular eating place as of now.
S. B.
Had a lovely lunch fresh and hot friendly helpful staff need to book alwasys full
T. H.
It's ok food not bad could be better if served on warm plates food gets cold before you finish, could do with a refurbishment ladies toilet not very clean according to my partner
N. H.
Great place to meet, food and beer as expected at a Wetherspoon's.
M. F.
Excellent for food. Very good prices. Lovely garden at Back. Clean. Good staff. Lovely atmosphere. Great for party's . X
L. H.
It's probably not for everyone, but the food I've had has always been great and the service has been quick. You can use the whetherspoons app to speed things up as well!
p. h.
Staff were All very nice and friendly.
The food was great. £1.99 for a pint of Magners, lets just say that I overindulged!
L. C.
Standard Wetherspoon pub, pit stop beer on way to football. Good choice of beers as usual.
A. B.
