Great fish and chips!! We are Canadians with roots in England and just loved our visit to "The Ship" while finding our roots last month. It was early nightfall and all the boats and watercraft were all lit up and do serene. The ambience and view from the restaurant one floor up was flawless. Food was good... thoroughly enjoyed a variety of local ciders.. thoroughly recommend.

We had a really nice few hours here with friends recently. We got a table outside great in the sun & lively place to sit and watch all going on around. Staff were very pleasant & efficient. Good is good pub grub nothing to fancy would defo return.

Location : near the port with boats and famous "Smeaton's Tower". My review it is dedicated to delicious dessert served me as a #vegan "warm fruit flapjack with nuts and raspberry #vegetarian ice cream 🍨 With first bite I had feeling that my taste buds experience one of the best moments . Warm fruits just melt in my mouth and when I close my eyes I felt that I am in different place . The atmosphere it is very friendly . The interior design is focused primarily on the style that accentuates the walls of the building and emphasizes that there is a high-standard restaurant. Music 🎶 great taste ! The restaurant it is also dog friendly 🙂 Highly recommend!

This bar and restaurant is located in a great location on the historic Barbican over looking the harbour. The menu and beers offered from this St Austell Brewery owned Bar is excellent and you can enjoy dining drinking or both in the friendly atmosphere from the very helpful and friendly staff. Recently they have made the outside seating area even more attractive with all large bins enclosed that doesn't now spoil the wonderful views and many plant boxes arranged along the seated canopy areas. I've lived on the Barbican for over 30 years and the Ship bar and restaurant is one of the best places to visit for any occasion with friends or family within a great location...

Revisiting Plymouth after a few years, and delighted to return to a welcome in The Ship. Unsure of which hand pulled pint to choose, I was given two samples. "Proper Job" didn't disappoint. It deserved a good pic.

Great food. Son thoroughly enjoyed his rack of ribs so much so there was no meet left. My lamb burger was lush & my husband's steak was cooked to perfection. All in all a great experience & to top it off we could hear the chef's singing to FOO FIGHTERS. ....We so wanted to join in 🤣🤣

Excellent and very smart harbour side pub. Nice tidy set up inside and with tables (under space heaters) outside along the quay. Good mix of local beers and all the usual European beers. Friendly staff and good local crowd.

Had a birthday surprise here and was nice, drinks nice and chilled with genuine staff. I had the lamb burger which I felt was a bit of a rip off, more meat given in a McDonald's burger! Aside from that though it was nice and I definitely will come back to try other bits on the menu.

Hired the ship to host my 30th birthday party last week and they were amazing! The staff were super helpful and friendly, going out of the way to accommodate me and my guests! The venue space we had was beautiful and perfect for the amount of guests I had. Honestly couldn't have asked for a better night! I 100% recommend the Ship and will definitely be visiting again and using it for future events

Service was warm and friendly from staff. I had the steak which was supposed to be cooked medium but came out more like rare as the steak is so thick so must be hard to get right was still very tasty. Food over all was great and the drinks too. Thanks guys for a welcoming time

Thanks to The Ship for letting us have book club in one of their upstairs rooms! Their menu is great, including vegan loaded fries, and we all had trouble choosing! Winter has brought mulled wine and cider into the game - so we’ll worth a visit!

Haven't been to the ship for a long time but found that it is still a great place to eat. Food was great, the atmosphere was good even though it was 5pm and the staff very helpful and friendly. It certainly won't be 27 years before I return. Good job The Ship.👍👍👍👍

Called in yesterday for lunch. Staff were really helpful and welcoming. Had a problem with one of our meals. The response was first class. A new meal was provided and the cost refunded for our inconvenience. If only all complaints were dealt with so professionally. Will certainly call there again.

Only gave 4 stars due to the fact there wasn't much variety for children. Sometimes the food is hit and miss but I assume that depends on whose chef on the day and personal preference.. On the whole it's a nice place to go and grab a bite to eat, or just a drink.

The team hosted a large group of us that had just arrived for our long stay in Plymouth. Outside a heated seating area, with a lovely view of the docks at any time of the day, a homely-feeling entrance and then we were greeted by a lovely sight in the dining area upstairs; our table was festooned with seasonal decorations to welcome us! Gaz took our food orders, ferried drinks from the bar to the tables and generally made us all feel at home! I had Chilli con Carne (amazing), a few others had various nibbles and nobody was left disappointed. Great location at the Barbican, delicious food and wonderful service by Gaz and the team. Would highly recommend!

Sensible prices. Friendly Staff. Good Location (bustling) Food: I had the Fajita stack and it was lovely! Only criticism would be that the Guacamole was clearly out if a bottle and would have made a huge difference if it had been homemade. Will visit again!

Beautiful food, beautiful selection of niche drinks and a beautiful bunch of people. I've made a few friends for life out of this place because they're always happy to have a laugh, serve you well and ensure your food and beverage is to a high standard. The food is well worth the money and the beer garden in the summer is a welcome oasis next to the beautiful barbican, on cobble stones streets, stunning views and plenty of good company makes for the perfect day drink or evening!

Lovely cosy place. Nice friendly staff, relaxed atmosphere. Ordered the 8oz rib-eye, only steak on the menu but did not disappoint. Everything spot on. Nicely seared with mushrooms and onion rings chips were cooked to perfection! Would definitely pay another visit.

Amazing service! Dave saw we had a little one and made sure we knew the kitchen was closed while we were waiting in the queue. He let us know about space inside and then even helped us get a seat near mates. Great place super busy on bank holiday weekend. Dave's hospitality definitely made our night.

My family and I visited the Ship Inn last sunday for dinner. The atmosphere was lovely. The staff so friendly and helpful. The menu, popular pub food favourites. We all enjoyed our meal which was served promptly and very tasty. We all had such a nice time and look forward to visiting again next time we visit Plymouth. Been here for food previously and it was faultless, even with it being day 1 of a new menu, and they are dog-friendly which is always a bonus. Therefore I suggested it for drinks with colleagues after work, even for a busy Friday the service was pretty good - it didn't take long to place orders as there were always staff in the vicinity. Some are friendlier than others, but overall a good experience.

The letdown for us personally is that there's a connection with the St Austell Brewery through the ordering app but this is only reflected in there being one drink from there available at the bar, and that being lager. Great fresh fish all the time and it's very affordable too. If you cannot have batter on your fish, no problems, they'll grill it for you. I'm Italian and love fish, have always eaten it, and this place really does a good job with it, not too oily, well seasoned and very tasty. I had almost one ft long cod fillet for under 12 pounds. Great value for money.

A modern pub on the Barbican in Plymouth - Smart, but not terribly characterful. The food and drink were fine though, although service was a little slow on the night of the first England match in the Euros, but I can forgive that as everywhere was rammed inside and out.

Went for lunch yesterday with the in-laws and they decided they would like a couple of meals from the specials board. So went and ordered but everything on specials board didn't exist anymore so that disappointed them and still don't understand why have a specials board which you are not selling. Also they had run out of most of the white wines and only had one type left. Also price of beer is very overpriced but I'm guessing you pay more for beer if you get an ok view. Saying all this the food we could actually order was nice and came out quick. But there is cheaper good and beer if you know where to go and with alot better views than what you get here

The Ship is a St Austell pub so you get reasonably-priced pub food and decent, but indifferent, service, decent ales and wine. Nice area outside looking over the harbour, inescapable muzak played constantly, busy at the weekend.

Almost gave up on UK Fish & Chips. Tried half dozen places, mainly cuz its one of the typical English plates. All we could find we greasy balls of breading with a tiny shriveled piece of fish inside. We would remove all the breading and eat our poor little bite of fish. The Ship advertised "Best Fish and Chips" in England so we figured one more go. WOW! Lite breading; not greasy; large flaky moist filet inside that was clearly freshly caught. Great staff and service too.
