This is a very old very cute countryside pub. The people working here are friendly, they serve good food and offer a decent selection of drinks... and they have a beer garden comparable to Narnia :-) there are a couple of friendly ponies in the paddock next to it too! They also have their own car park, which is handy.

Not much to look at and the bar is a bit of a sticky carpet kind of place which looks a bit grim in the coldlight of day. However food was amazing and the kids loved the beer garden. Plenty of parking and a decent array of draught beers and ciders. Staff were lovely too.

Recently visited this pub on Sunday for Mother’s Day, we had a roast and it was absolutely fantastic! Staff are very friendly, atmosphere is good, food is superb and reasonable. Been going for years and it never disappoints.

Visited here after a 12 mile walk on Dartmoor so starving hungry. Only bar snacks available which in the circumstances was understandable. Customers allowed one by one into the bar to order. After walking 8.5 miles to get there I was welcomed by friendly staff. Food was affordable and delicious with huge portions! Their kids play area even has 2 goats chilling, they are so friendly and they wag their little tails when you pet them. I would love to go to this pub in the summer as it had a cute outdoor bar and large picnic area. I just need to learn to drive first... Because walking up that hill is brutal!

We turned up early, and they couldn't be anymore welcoming. Mike and Alicia were great, the food was as it said and couldn't fault it. Visited the place after a friend previously worked and decided to check it out. Will be back soon

Brilliant hospitality. We were 3 wild campers/climbers soaked to the skin, and were shown great kindness. We stayed all day and night, staying warm and dry, playing cards and pool ( a brilliant pool table) and had an exceptional sunday carvery, beautifully seasoned food and delicately cooked beef. The locals were super friendly and also raved about how great the place is. Brilliant pub and atmosphere, can't thank the owner and staff enough for their kindness and their brilliant venue. We'll be back whenever we pass through the moors.

A bit dark inside but we sat in the garden. Food was delicious. I am not a beefburger person but thought i would take a chance and try theirs. 5 of us tried them and all agreed how good they were. Fantastic! Huge burger, bacon,lovely bun, onion rings, coleslaw and lively crispy chips. Great.

If like me you're visiting the area from afar and youre looking for a nice spot to stop gor lunch this is definitely the place to go. It has loads of parking for a large group or large vehicles and has plenty of space to accomidate a large group also. While initially we thought it was quite pricey for pub food as soon as we tasted the dishes we recognised the prices are entirely justified. The food is amazing. Very welcoming atmosphere with an outdoor seating area also.

I had the Sunday carvery. I have only given three stars as whilst the food was nice and they catered for gluten free, the food was not hot. I think it was good value for money and if it had been hot it would have been 4/5 stars.

Friendly and atmospheric country pub filled with wonderful music, food and drink. The chef is very accommodating towards gluten free/ special diets. It's family friendly, there are even chickens, goats and a pirate play area in the garden. The owners have got it just right.👌

Glad to see this place open again. We stopped in for lunch on Easter Monday. There was a warm and friendly welcome from the girl behind the bar. Nice selection of beer to choose from, and a varied menu, which they were willing to chop and change for my daughter. We'll certaily stop in again if passing.

Mad dog is a great bloke. Lovely setting. If you are a campervan owner you can stay in the car park at no charge. Warning roads can get narrow in places. Nice play park for the kids and friendly goats just make sure they don't eat you food! Dog owner friendly.

Wow! What a wonderful pub 😁 Great atmosphere 🎶I was also very impressed with the prices! A G&T and half pint cider was only £4.25 😲 then a G&T and a pint of coke only £5 !!😲 The food is excellent; we had scampi & chips (cooked to perfection) and also bubble&squeak with sides of bacon and fried eggs. OMG..... it was all delicious 😋I’d definitely recommend this pub 👍🏻

This place re-opened about six months ago. It has become a fantastic community pub. Good quality entertainment is organised along with other activities. There is a fine selection of beers and good pub food. You can even bring your horse as it has its own paddock!

One of the hidden gems out in the Dartmoor countryside! The White Thorn has everything from good beer to great service and the food is wonderful! Add the large outside paddock with its plentiful seating and two friendly goats, Gin and Tonic, and lots of fantastic musicians (there was a great 4-piece Jazz band called Tony Bolonie and the Elastic Band playing last Sunday afternoon! ) who play there and you have the perfect place to take adults and kids for a lazy lunch. Love it! 👌

I am surprised at Beth Barnes review. I visited the White Thorn last Sunday, I had great fresh fish and chips, service was above average and very friendly. I am insulted with the being British statement " In true British style we did not say anything" if that is the case why whinge on the Internet about the food. I know that I was asked twice if my meal was ok and if I needed anything else. Please do not judge the British by this spineless comment, we tend to complain when unhappy and give the person the opportunity to rectify any problem. Good luck to the new proprietors, I will certainly return.

Great food, and family friendly place for lunch with family. The Blazing Saddle (gammon smothered in chilli and cheese) is an inspired dish. My wife's fish burger was proper fillets of battered fish piled high in a bun. The rest of the family enjoyed their lunch. And they didn't mind my 18 month old running around before lunch arrived.
