Monday evening. Not busy so plenty of options on where to sit. Couple of disabled bays outside and level entrance into the establishment. Can imagine the car park gets full at weekends. For drinks ordered a pint of Estrella lager at £5.65 and a 250ml glass of red wine. This was the cheapest on the menu at £6.25 which is reasonable and certainly cheaper that many places we have visited recently. Ordered a mixed grill and chicken and beef duo. I had the mixed grill. Don't normally expect much in the way of steak when you get a mixed grill but the piece of rump I had was really tender and cooked right for me as I like mine rare. The lamb chop, although small, was also very tender and tasty. Initially I didn't think there was that much on the plate but by the end of it I was full. My brother enjoyed his particularly the beef, the mash and the gravy that came with it. Service was friendly and efficient. We had a voucher downloaded to our phone giving 30% off mains. So total for the bill including 2 drinks was £35.00. Very reasonable. At those prices I have no issues in recommending the Brown Hate. But unlikely to visit again as we were only in the area to pick up an online purchase.

Great pub. Been many times and have never been disappointed. Food delicious. Staff are always helpful and doing their best when the pub is packed. My steak and ale pie was very tasty with lovely soft pastry. I tried the lasagna as well which was melt in your mouth scrumdidlyumsious. Our Son enjoyed the playarea outside, whilst we had a beer in the sun. Friendly relayed atmosphere. Dog friendly too.

Anniversary meal on Friday was excellent. We had the mixed grill each. The quality of meat was tender, juicy and cooked to perfection. Couldn’t fit a dessert in. Service excellent again and added bonus of 30% off main courses. Defo going to try the kebabs next time as they 👀 so good. Thanks 👍

Easily booked table online although they do have some tables for walk-ins. Service was quick and attentive. The food was really good and plenty of it. Had the Mezze sharing board and Chicken and Portobello Pie. Highly recommend and would definitely go again.

We have eaten here several times and have always enjoyed what we have toeat. This time we were a bit disappointed with the time it took for our meal to arrive was just short of an hour as we were told the waitress had mixed up our order with another table. We asked for the dessert menu and none came back to take our order. We had to ask a other waitress to go and find ours.

I was disappointed with the menu change to the chicken & chorizo kebab, which contained only one piece of chorizo a couple of chicken pieces and lots and lots of roasted onion which I struggle to eat due to stomach issues. I love this dish when I have had it in the past, but since the menu change the portion size does not reflect the price charged.

It was the first time me and my husband have been out since the COVID breakout as my husband has terminal cancer, so we have had to be very careful. I, myself am currently on crutches following a much awaited foot operation. I mentioned my crutches when I booked our table and asked if we could be put in a quiet location. We were greeted by a very pleasant young lady who gave me a choice of vacant tables, even though there was one reserved for us. We chose the perfect table in a little alcove and out of the way of people passing. Sad to have to say it, but it's a sign of very sad times, but we felt safe. We were promptly given our menus and given a little time to decide what we wanted to drink and then given more time to choose our options from the menu. Very unusually for us we had three courses. Each one was presented well and very tasty. The staff were very attentive and helpful and service was made with a smile. Will definitely be back and hoping for the same fantastic service. Thank you for making our evening relaxed.

Disappointed this evening. Usually able to sit at a nice table even when we only have coffee and desert but were told we had to sit in bar area( not as nice)! as not having a full meal. Usually have a great experience here, but my latest visit has put me off for future visits. The service was poor, no smiles or friendliness from anyone we dealt with. We went for my mums birthday (17 of us including kids). The wait was a little long but it was very busy. The food came in big portions and everyone said they loved their meals. We moved inside when the weather turned and the staff was very accomadating. The food was great. We enjoyed the food so much so we are there the next day when we picked up the car. The food was lovely, but there was to much of it. I had fish and chips and it looked more like a whale on the plate. I felt overfaced and couldn't eat it all. It was expensive so felt that it was a waste. I'd have preferred a normal sized meal and paid a little less. I don't think I'll be eating there again because of that very reason. The staff were very pleasant and explained to us when we sat down that as the forks were being polished and would be brought over as soon as they were done. I found this a bit bizarre as the place was almost empty.

There was a Halloween party taking place which entertained our grandchildren although they were not part of the party. However, the children’s portion (our grandchildren are 8 and 4) size was extremely small and both had extra off our plates. Two hot dog sausages and 6/8 chips is not sufficient for an 8 year old. The eldest even complained that there were no vegetables available on their menu. Not all children are happy with chips and beans!

When this restaurant pub first opened I had a chicken from the rotessery. It was almost raw and I vowed never to go back again and absolutely slated it on social media in penwortham as it was the worst meal and experience from a new eatery ever. However I did go back and it was a completely different environment although about three years later. I found the staff were so accommodating and the food and service were exemplary. Would now recommend this establishment to everyone.

The rotisserie chicken has been rather dry on both of our previous visits. The additional gravy heloed and was nice. There is no mixed grill on the menu, why on earth not? You have more than enough components on the menu to offer one. My chicken was also a little dry. I think the portion of chips that came with it was extremely mean, this was the same on our last visit too. However it all tasted very nice. We will try again when we can.

Food was excellent. Bit of a wait to get some service at first, but after that the staff seemed to be on the ball. We all had the £6 meals with starters. I had the Bacon double cheeseburger and went XL. Big mistake on my part, it was massive. My fiance had half roast chicken, again it was a big meal. Mother in law had Lasagna. She said that was really nice. For £6 you can't go wrong. I'd buy them meals at full price ranging from £7 onwards.

We have been to the Brown Hare on many occasions prior to refurbishment but this was our first visit since the refresh. We were very impressed by the new layout and menu but what made our visit so special was our server Sara. She was very friendly and attentive without being over familiar. Sara was very knowledgeable about both the food and drinks menu and was able to advise us in our choices. Our order was handled in an efficient and timely manner and the drinks were delivered to our table very quickly. Our food was tasty, hot and presented nicely. All in all a thoroughly enjoyable visit, we shall be back.

Nice pub, cosy atmosphere, food is good and there are good 2 for 1 deals or similar. They also do Roasts at the weekend. Nice ales and beer and wine to choose from. Free parking and many spaces too. There is also an outside play area with a climbing frame for children and a beer garden / smoking area outside too. There are some colouring pages and crayons but you ask for these from the bar area. They sometimes hide the pages under the till (so if they say they can’t seem to find them then just nudge the bar tender and ask if they’re under the till). The main down side is that staff are either happy or not bothered, it’s pot luck what you get it seems. If you get the happy staff then you get good service and nice attention, if you get the not bothered staff then your table might not be properly cleaned and tidy for when you arrive, your cutlery might be clean and presented with the meals, you might be lucky to get a smile with your drinks.

Edit end of 2019: Strange choice to get rid of the children's play area, this used to create a place where families would gravitate to, now there is no incentive to keep all the kids in one area and nothing to keep them entertained. Firstly, I have to say that the girls waiting on the tables were very nice. However, our starter took an absolute age to arrive. Maybe this had something to do with the 14 strong cast of 'Cocoon' who showed up shortly after us. Also, I asked for my steak done rare and it arrived (eventually) done medium well. That said, the food was very good so no complaints there, but minus 2 stars for slow service and not cooking the steak correctly.

Had a meal with 5 others at 7pm. The food was excellent, however despite it being a Sunday they had run out of carvery. One meal had a very small quantity of gravy so we requested more and were told they had run out. Although it wasn't very busy the food took almost an hour to arrive. When the plates were cleared we asked to order desserts. After 25 minutes we went and ordered at the bar. Staff were very friendly but not quick.

Not too bad but slowly going downhill over the years. The décor needs some TLC and the menu is simple pub food that some days is cooked well, some days not. Generally only go here if members of the group has small children as the small indoor and outdoor play areas keeps them entertained.

I parked my car at the Gulf petrol station in Penwortham and took the short walk too the Brown Hare in Penwortham. It is a very nice pub. The toilets are clean and hygienic. I would recommend a visit to the Brown Hare pub in Penwortham

I had half roast chicken, sweet chilli pepper sauce, with vegetables and chips, from the Gluten free menu. They don't have a dairy free menu which is unusual nowadays. It was all ok but I would have liked something different to chips and veg as my gf/df option and no option for dessert. Service was fairly quick but it was very quiet.
