Nice place, good atmosphere.
Food was a bit cold when it arrived (not freezing, but not pipping hot), but was tasty. (We had beef roast and pork roast)
The kid's cod was a bit greasy.
Service a bit slow, but it was nice not to be rushed.
Puddings were a decent size and really tasty.
All in all a good time had.

Lovely pub! Delicious food, nice seating outside especially the part which is covered. Will recommend and go back!

We've been to this place before and likes it then. This time it was really good too, lovely polite staff, and we thought the food was even better. Location is convenient too, easy parking, quite area. The pub was not too busy either so we could easily talk.
L. L.
We booked for a family group of 20 and were delighted to have exclusive use of the covered outside area and the chance to decorate it for two family birthdays. We were very happy with the service and quality of the food. The roast dinners were amazing! We would highly recommend it. Thank you to all the staff who helped to make it a memorable day.

Nice food, very tasty mash and Yorkshire pudding, but by 3pm they'd run out of half the meats for Sunday roast! No greens with the roast which I found a bit disappointing. The sticky toffee pudding is quite small and very very sweet but comes with vanilla ice cream

The meal was to celebrate Valentines with my partner. The meal was good and enjoyable. However, at home I noticed that we were charged a 10% service charge, of which should have been my choice. I recall on the advert this should only be charged when 4 to 6 people are having a meal.

I wanted somewhere warm and comfortable and this is mostly what the Caversham Rose offers.
On my arrival, there was a roaring log fire, perfect, but it got left to almost burn down to ash before being looked after.
I only had a coffee and a small lager and spent a few hours in a comfortable high back armchair, perfect for a lazy Saturday afternoon.
L.
Very nice food and quick service.

Everything was great. Couldn't be bettered. Quality, price, customer service. Full marks all round.
I just don't understand why this place isn't packed. So sorry to hear it will be closing

Have been here a few times since the rebrand and experiences have varied. This visit was on a Saturday evening, the place was lively which was great to see as it has been very quiet on certain occasions. The food has also been inconsistent previously, but again this visit was almost perfect. Great service too. I'm not sure if there's been a staff change but it seems to be better on all accounts and is worth giving another go.

We hired the function room for a birthday party and I can honestly say that from start to finish the whole experience was fantastic.
Jessica looked after me and our party incredibly, and made the whole experience completely hassle free. She couldn't be friendlier or do enough to help. In fact, the whole team on the evening were great.
Thank you so, so much guys.
I would 100% recommend and will definitely be back.
Thank you all again!

One of the friendliest place I ever been to , good quality food and portion size very big compare to others , keep up the good work guys , see you soon 😊

Had a fantastic meal at the Caversham Rose, great value and very attentive staff.

As usual, both food and, especially, service are yet to ever disappoint.
Edit: I'm disheartened. Apparently, the Rose will shut down and will turn into Carter & Miller Steakhouse by summer's end. The closure of this fine, warm and hospitable establishment will be a detrimental loss to our local community.
I really, really hope Carter & Miller will retain and retrain the kitchen and front office staff. I could never fault the kitchen staff for consistently delivering quality meals. The front office staff and their exceptional, prompt and warm service made the Caversham Rose the establishment it currently is.

Visited the Caversham rose catching up with a friend. There was plenty of parking on arrival, outside seating for a catch up and a lovely dining area inside for food. The menu was varied catering for all tastes and dietary requirements. Are there 2 nights and both nights food was fresh, hot, tasty and served in a timely manner with a smile. All the staff were friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. The range of drinks was excellent and a great wine list which appealed to me. Prices were reasonable for the food and drinks and the locals were welcoming. I would certainly recommend it to anyone and will definitely visit again. Top marks and thank you to everyone for making my visit so lovely!

We booked the Caversham Rose for after our daughters christening. Jessica the manager was extremely helpful and accomodating. She allowed us to have a soft play in the function room and on the day of the Christening she allowed me to set up before the pub was even open, she really did go above and beyond id say. We were able to use the function room and basically the whole left side of the pub for our guests. When we arrived drinks were set up ready and everything looked great. We booked the small bites menu and the food came out quickly, stayed hot and everyone enjoyed it. We had a fair few children there and the staff were very understanding and accomodating with this too. Jessica really took the stress out of the event everytgubg ran so smoothy. Everyone had a good time, lots of compliments. Would definately recommend the Caversham Rose for any events like these. Lots of space, great decor in the pub, lots of parking for guests and as i say excellent service. Thanks again Jessica and team.

Came for a quick drink after work was very impressed from the decoy to the drinks has something for everyone. Barbara the bartender was very attentive polite and all round welcoming would highly recommend.

Fantastic service in the Rose this evening. Lovely atmosphere by the fire. Super Food and treats for the dog too. Thank you.

Limited to 1 visit for a funeral tea. The food was very good indeed. Drinks choice extensive and reasonable prices. Huge flat off road car park to rear with a jay having a bird bath. Disabled ground floor wheelchair accessible toilet with mai toilets upstairs.
C. B.
Absolute stellar service from assistant manager Lawrence and the lovely lady at reception.
Amazing food, great presentation for the fresh cod fish and thick-cut chips.
Delicious deserts and proper, loose-leaf tea.
100% recommended!
R. G.
I would say it was a great experience to go the place, the food was not something to talk about, but the walk to the Caversham Rose and the place itself and the walk back home, was an excellent experience
C. P.
We had a pre-booked lunch for 12 people at the Rose recently. We were given our own area and provided with excellent food and service.
All our guests were impressed.
Thank you very much Jess and team.

lovely visit, very nice food and extremely friendly staff will happily visit again :)

Plenty of outdoor seating. Easy to use app to order and pay. Friendly and efficient staff.

Family meal out, service was excellent. The food was very tasty and hot. Great day had by all.
M. B.
Great evening, looked after me & my birthday party. Loved it. Lawrence went above and beyond for us all.
J. W.
I enjoyed an evening meal with my family. A really good menu to choose from and something for everyone. Food was cooked and presented really well and the staff were very attentive. There is plenty of room for social distancing inside and out in the garden which has a large covered area. We sat inside. Would definitely go again.
T. B.
Had a tasty pork belly roast. Roast potatoes ok could do with one more half. The mixed vegetables was superb my only criticism is the lack of meat; 2 small slices of pork belly! The Waterside in Woodley provides more. The sea bass well cooked and bravo

And another update >>>>>
Went mid-week a little before Christmas, and had dinner with two friends. I chose the half chicken, which was nice (would prefer crispier skin). TBH it wasn't the largest portion, but I am told by 'the nearest' I eat too much :) The others had steak and lamb, both looked nicely cooked and presented, and so I am upping my review once more. I do however suggest checking the menu before going along. IMO the prices are very high for what you get.
Further update >>>>>
Met a couple of friends mid week, just for drinks. The place was buzzing, the staff were happy, polite, and enough of them to take an order relatively quickly at the bar. I had a good time, and so I am happy to up my review (I understand another local pub is getting a reputation for being over priced, and loyalties have shifted ...which is a little ironic IMO).
UPDATE after 4 years >>>>>>>>
I am afraid 'The Rose' just hasn't found its market. I guess the owners thought they could cash in on the residents of Caversham, but it never became a 'go to' location. More so, I believe everyone thinks it is overpriced for a local pub. Unfortunately, that has become more true, as I believe the quality has dropped, but not the price.
During 2020 COVID, my wife and I booked a table to eat on the Sunday of Spring Bank Holiday. It was a lovely evening, and we sat outside with the dog. We were given menus and our drinks order taken. The drinks were served by someone else, who didn't ask if we were ready to order. Nobody came to us after the drinks, and we had to ask if we could order, at which point we were confronted with "Oh, I don't know if the kitchen is still open" ... "it had better be, we booked a table for food". 'Fortunately', we were able to order. IMO the burger is incredibly overpriced, so I went for breaded chicken. The presentation of which was poor, and it was dry as a bone/burnt at the ends. The rich gravy was a thin oily liquid. My wife has enjoyed the Nourish Bowl previously, and ordered it once more. Again, the presentation was not good, and the ingredients had changed.
I'm not sure I will bother eating there again, and the beer is better value just about anywhere else.
(all a great shame, as the interior and garden area are pleasant)

Somewhat surprised and pleased to be the first Google Reviewer, as The Caversham Rose team are in the middle of hosting an extensive four day launch, inviting a large number of local residents and businesses.
I am aware from Facebook groups etc, that their marketing is paying off, as the majority of comments are very favourable, being a vast improvement over the previously named Grosvenor (Ember Inns). It is still the same company, but a higher end brand of Mitchells and Butlers.
I am happy to report that the much needed refurbishment, and rebuild to an extent, has been a great success. Hopefully my pictures will illustrate this, rather than trying to relate it in words.
<<<<content removed as no longer relevant>>>>
I hope they manage it, as I, and my fellow diners, we definitely be going back soon.
Good luck to everyone at The Caversham Rose.

Boxing day meal with my otherhalfs family. Nice and clean, food and drink good as was the service
J. N.
Visited yesterday lunchtime - the first pub/restaurant visit since lockdown and wasn't disappointed. The rooms are large enough for social distancing and the staff were friendly, efficient and courtesy despite such an incredibly hot day. The food was fab. Well done all and congratulations to the chef and kitchen staff who were still turning out great dishes despite working in what must have been extreme heat.
P. L.
Came with my father and girlfriend. Marcella was absolutely brilliant and is a core member of staff, we had also heard a lot of great things about a member of staff called Georgie so hopefully she will also serve us when we are next there! Brilliant pub, I look forward to going back!
J. f.
Food dry as if plated up some time before. Sea Bass skin should be crisp and eatable, it wasn't. Disappointing for the price. Good service from waiting staff.
J. L.
What a wonderful experience. Having been the first time since Covid that I have dined in a restaurant I couldn’t be more happy. The food was outstanding, I went for the Battered cod and chunky chips which were impeccable and my partner decided on the fish cakes, they were also delicious! The wine variety took me by surprise, had a lovely bottle of Rose.
Our waitress was incredible, nothing was to much trouble for her, she even wrote a little note on the bill wishing us a great rest of the day.
Just an amazing time and will be back again very soon! 10/10 Caversham Rose

Tasty food. Attentive and friendly service and they made a fuss of my mum who was celebrating her bday there.
P. D.
Good staff, nice seating options inside and out. Big place, nicely decorated, very reasonable. Good for functions. Big car park.
S. M.
good service and beer....little pricey

I would have said this was nearer 4.5 than 3.9. Has always been a positive place to visit whether for a meal or just a drink. Good ambience with attentive staff. Good when we've eaten there and good choice of up to date beers too. Lots of different spaces, some quiet nooks and crannies, some secluded, nice garden and open conservatory at the rear.
A. J.
Loved the food. One issue but rectified fully. Happy with our visit. Definitely going back.

Roast beef dinner, beef could have been warmer and they messed up with my dessert. Otherwise grand.

Excellent night at The Caversham Rose!
Sally was so lovely and really made our night that more special.
Food was great. Service incredible.
Thank you Sally

I came to the Caversham Rose for the first time today, and also my first outing since COVID-19. I was greeted with a lovely warm welcome, and then seated and served by a lovely waitress Called Sally. Nothing was too much trouble for her, she made us feel very welcome and at ease with corona virus! She recommended food to us and we enjoyed every mouthful and she is an a absolute credit to the company! The social distancing at the pub made I feel very safe and I will defiantly be returning!
N. T.
Never fails to deliver!! Delicious food, cooked to perfection and super friendly and helpful staff! Dog friendly too! 🐶❤

managed to get to the Caversham Rose for lunch recently, first time since lickdown, had a lovely greeting from the staff, the waitress, Sally was brilliant in her service, I was even asked if everything was to my liking by the assista t manager, who greeted me on arrival. A very pleasant visit and a very pleasant meal and staff that actually seemed to care. Well done staff member Sally and assistant manager Shannon for making this a memorable visit again.

A few months ago we visited this restaurant and unfortunately had a bad experience, so we decided some months later to return as everybody is entitled to a second chance, the place was packed and we were like maybe not tonight was the best night , but a team under pressure you get to see people at there best , great food , great service and glad we returned, absolutely amazed, how under that much pressure the food was stunning and nicely presented , well done 👏 thank you
S. H.
Went for Sunday lunch with friends and their two young children (both under 5). A relaxed atmosphere where staff were friendly and nothing felt too much trouble. We didn't feel rushed at all. Good quality Sunday lunch with lots of other choices too. A range of items available for children. Good sized portions. All left happy. Would definitely go again if in the area.
J. O.
A very nice spring evening spent with drinks and nibbles. Thanks Guys.

Great food and looks great since the recent refurbishment! Must try this desert!!!!

A pleasant pub restaurant with ample parking and sitting accommodation inside and outside. It wasn't even 10% full on Friday lunch time but no one was at the bar @ 1pm. It took about 2 minutes for the barman to appear. The staffs were pleasant and polite but even sitting in the restaurant we had to order food and drink at the bar.
The food was tasty and we'll presented but the battered fish a bit greasy. No one came to the table to ask whether we wanted anything or to ask how was the meal. We went to the bar twice to order drinks during the meal. The bar staffs (male & female) were pouring drinks for other customer. No acknowledgement, smile or eye contact was offered. The barmaid didn't even look at you during the service nor offered a smile!!
J. *.
Great venue with warm new decor but our large group were let down by extremely long wait times for every course despite having ordered some weeks before & staff weren't that apologetic nor did much to make up for our event ending "too late to be eating"! So some of our group left before the end or were disappointed which was a real shame for a festive party
R. B.
We had a dinner here in December 2018 for about 30 people. We had our own area set aside at one end of the pub. The food was excellent. Service very efficient and friendly. Everybody who has spoken to me since has said how much they enjoyed it and how good the food was.
M. R. C.
Thrilled to discover, alongside the regular menu, an excellent vegan menu.. several starters and desserts to choose from as well as main courses. My partner and I enjoyed everything we had. Moderately expensive, but I guess we are down south, and the quality absolutely made it worth it. Highly recommend you pay this place a visit.
N. W.
My late grandmother use to live a short walk from this venue so I have visited often over the years. I must say the current decor and staff and menu are fantastic. I'm vegan (yeah yeah, i know, we're annoying, change the record 😂) and was astounded to be handed a dedicated vegan menu with really interesting food combos and classic dishes alike. A lot of thought has gone into this and i have to say you guys nailed it. My mum was with me and she's just gone vegan so showing her how mainstream it's becoming was great and neither of us expected to be so well catered for. Thanks to all involved!
S. J.
Very nice food and great staff members. Mandy was very observant and helpful, she cleared our stuff up in a timely manner. Well done and we’ll be back again soon.
N. P.
I went to the Caversham Rose for a work training session. We used the function room. The staff we're welcoming and attentive. Buffet lunch was lovely and the decor is very nice. A big thank you from our team to yours! I will definitely be returning for a non-work visit!
G. M.
Okay for food. Can be quite chilly inside away from the real fires (which are a nice feature). Surprisingly, starting to look a little shabby around the fringes not long after a massive refurbishment and brand change. Good for parking and beer garden at rear.
M. M.
It's a mediocre but conveniently placed gastro pub which is on the whole fairly regular in terms of service, food quality and facilities. Prices are a little on the steep side but that reflects the area and demographic who frequent here.
It offers everything that you would anticipate from a gastro pub from cocktails and expensive sounding dishes which are cooked by your run-of-the-mill gastro pub chefs and served on any manner of things that attempts to resemble something like a plate. Sometimes that's a roofing tile or a very large oversized plate in typical gouache gastropub Style. Prices of a beer starter around £5 and have typical artisan sounding names and seem to be be from Independent breweries but nowadays are nothing that you wouldn't find in any other pub of this kind in this area.
A couple of drinks and two courses will set you back around £40 per person.
Is this good value? Well that's for you to decide - but on whole the quality is approximately what you would expect in any other mainstream outlet and you won't have a bad experience.
The surroundings are well kept and the decor pleasant although starting to show signs of wear it is kept clean. The toilets are hygienic but the walls could be cleaner.
S. R.
Food is pretty good, and prices are very good for the quality you get - more than a weatherspoons; not that much more, but much much nicer. 1 star lost for 1 staff member being quite rude last time I was there (slated the other staff, in front of customers, for a very minor mistake, then stormed off in a huff - awkward, to say the least - the other staff were lovely). Otherwise, great pub for a reasonably priced Sunday lunch.
P. K.
Great evening at the Rose tonight! Had a great meal and the service was great. Special mention to Bethany who was an absolute star

Really changed since I last came here (before new ownership) very nice feel inside and staff were very friendly. Food was excellent and reasonably priced.. would definitely go again

I would like to add from last year,s experience. It is a welcoming venue with great staff. Jessica and Lauren a pleasure to meet. And as I mentioned before the welcoming of my children deserve top marks!🌹🍺

Amazing!!

I have often walked passed this large suburban pub under its previous names and never felt the urge to enter. Somehow the size and style of the exterior made me imagine a bland functional characterless chain-pub.
The occasional flashing lights outside didn't help.
Finally visited last week when meeting up with a friend and found that inside it was large, and not exactly characterfull, but friendly and pleasant. Or maybe my standards have changed.
T. T.
Thank you for hosting a beautiful baby shower for my daughter at The Caversham Rose. Such amazing service from Sean and Jessica!
S. W.
Extreme level of personal service from Sally today, asking if I needed help opening my bag of crisps.
Saw a car in the car park with a snake on the front glass, Sally said don't worry it was a Wind Screen Viper. Strange times!
M. O.
Excellent service and great food.

I've eaten here twice now both times was fabulous. Alan and his staff were a credit to the place. Food great although people need to take Into consideration new menu, new staff and new place people and need to be patient Rome wasn't built in a day after all. Regardless of such a welcome change to what was there ! 😁 Every success to the new place

Nice food a good selection. Cocktails not bad. Not cheap but not to expensive. Very helpful friendly service.

Brilliant pub, free parking and very nice garden. good got summer and quite reasonable. Smart casual dress code but after 7 pm is specific so best to phone and check to avoid disappointment.

We went as a family with a booked table for four on 4th April 2017. When we arrived we were shown to the back of the restaurant area to a small square 4-seat table. We were served by an obviously inexperienced waiter who took our drink orders and came back some time later for our meal orders. Our mains took a slightly longer than you'd expect 22 minutes, but forgivable considering it's the first week. We ordered squid starter (shared), kids goujons (good, crispy, fresh white cod, no complaints), carne pizza (thin base, tasty enough but oily), avacado salad and wagyu burger. Value wise the salad and burger were not great, the burger in particular was very small, although tasty. Overall I'd say the food was just "ok" but overpriced.
The waiter insisted on removing individual plates as soon as they were finished, rather than the normal etiquette of waiting for the whole table to finish. Once the table was clear we sat expecting to be asked if we wanted anything else but to no avail, we were invisible. Eventually (maybe ten minutes later) we had to ask for the desert menu and placed our order. Twenty minutes later with no sign of our deserts and the evening ticking away we asked for the bill and told the staff we no longer wanted the deserts. Upon payment I explained that I was disappointed as first impressions count, the manager attempted to apologise but instead came across aggressive and defensive, not a great way to enamour your customers. Especially when they live just five minutes down the road.
Looks nice outside and in but I can't recommend it.
UPDATE: Manager claims to have replied to my Tripadvisor review but hasn't done so, also now marked as "The Grosvenor - Closed" in Tripadvisor with no new entry for "The Caversham Rose"

Very pleasant atmosphere with friendly and polite staff. Food was okay but could have been warmer and the drinks were a bit pricey.
B. W.
We were a table of eight on a Friday evening. We enjoyed the meal and the service was attentive without being over familiar. The two for one offer on cocktails was a bonus.
L. L.
Had a tasty Sunday roast and staff were pleasant and obliging. One criticism though, Liqueur Coffee was served just as a normal coffee ☕ whereas it should be served in a glass with double/whipped cream as a floater?
T. W.
Excellent food and lovely atmosphere.
S. J.
Had a really great meal and all our food was very good. Mandy was very helpful and made sure we had everything we needed. Thank you

I love the room decoration and their food is good when English though lacking in flavour when they do Lebanese dishes. Warm welcome and competent service otherwise.
L. S.
We went for dinner with my family and a few friends.Staff was absolutely amazing and friendly. We had 3 starters and 4 main courses and they were absolutely devine.

Had a lovely meal at Caversham Rose as always. Staff lovely especially Jenna. Thank you so much for making my birthday special.
S. L.
Very good food, nice atmosphere, good facilities.
Update: Apparently you now need to pay for parking in their car park, which is a shame, but I guess people were taking the pee and parking there without going to the pub.
S. W.
Great food wide range of beers also has a beer garden
M. A.
Reasonably good quality food, but quite expensive for that level. It is however a great place to meet friends for a drink, very welcoming and a good selection of wines, beers, ciders etc
L. F.
Lovely, fun evening with a great bunch of people.
Staff all friendly and helpful.
Food yummy.
Drinks bit pricey.
Great night thanks

Myself, 6 friends and our 5 dogs just had a great meal, the food was delicious and reasonably priced and the service was also very good. I’ll definitely go back

Very impressed with our experience at the Caversham Rose today, our server Sean met us with a welcoming smile, and made our experience pleasurable, good experience all round, friendly team! We are looking forward to returning in the near future.
T. R.
Great selection of food and much larger inside than you’d expect.
C. J.
Function room is great!! Lots of space and private! Recommend this pub!
C. G.
Love this pub, come here a lot, but really not a fan of the new fence, makes the pub feel closed off, and I liked the open feel to the outdoor bit to the pub before hand.
That being said, I still love the pub, just slightly disappointed.
D. N.
Very spacious pub, nicely decorated, spotless, real fireplaces, function room. As for the pougniatala a very limited beers selection: 3 lagers and 1 bitter only :(
P. N.
I had a family lunch here and was very pleased with the food an the service. The staff were very welcoming and helpful.
S.
Really good service with helpful and friendly staff. Have been there twice for lunch in the last month - well worth a visit with a nice outdoor area and a small childrens area out back
B. H.
We visited on 14 July and our table was booked for 7.30 we waited 25 minutes for 1 starter which is much too long but when it finally arrived the quality was good and the 2 main meals were 25-30 minutes which I feel is a long wait especially as the restaurant didn't seem that busy but again the food was good quality this was our second visit and there still seems to be a long service issue also I feel that the restaurant is too big and lacks atmosphere and all things considered prices are quite high in relation to service and overall ambience
D. K.
Good vibe for a Wednesday night!!!!
R. G.
Went for Xmas drinks, table service was amazing and on point. Cocktails were lovely and a good selection too. Would recommend.
P. G.
Nice quality food with a lot of variety. Good value for money
S. D.
Great experience with the baby shower and enjoyed the food very much!
E. T.
Nice modernish atmosphere, large place but there are divisions that make each section cozy. We chose from the Vegan menu which was excellent
L. P.
Had an absolutely lovely meal at the Caversham rose tonight
S. G.
Very basic pub food and slow service due to being understaffed. Nice enough interior, not bad overall but wouldn't go again for food.
R. W.
Nice pub , large space and outside seating area . Good selection of food and drink, staff polite . Great in the summer .
C. H.
The quality of food and service in this venue is really nice. Located in a quiet part of Caversham it is a wonderful place to visit and unwind with great food and a classy ambience.
L. E.
Nice but expensive. Charged 8.00 for 2 very small bowls of chips
That didn't taste great and drinks were expensive as well.
R. P.
Nice, clean, family friendly pub. Good outside space, drinks are good and the staff are helpful.
L. C.
Very good Sunday Roast. It the second time we eat there and the food was delicious. The service is great and the prices are afordable.
A. C.
This is our local, called in for a meal Thursday lunchtime not that busy, went to order meal told kitchen staff did not turn up for work ,so only one person cooking ,if we wanted to order would be over 1 hr wait,(a long time to wait for fish and chips) so did not stay, went somewhere else where service was good and a lovely meal.
L. D. J.
Good food, great service complete with smile. Very attentive. Relaxed atmosphere.
c. e.
It took just under 10 minutes to get served. And once the cocktail was shaken with ice (first try was shaken without any ice) the drinks were what you expect.
A. L.
Hopeless if you are a beer drinker
D.
Nice place, will go again
P. C.

R. G.
visited with family for Sunday roast, very disappointing, had roast beef, very small portion of beef, plate was mainly so called roast potatoes, which were hardly broasted at all, vegetables not very appealing, and meal was only warm, for a restaurant just opened, they need to do a lot better, wouldn't be in hurry to go back.
D. R.
