Great pub - no frills, doesn't do food (other than crisps etc), doesn't do cocktails, eclectic music is choice of bar staff. It's definitely an ale- or cider-drinkers' place. The customers tend to be mainly male over-50's, but everyone is welcome. My only criticism (which applies to many real-ale pubs) is that a lot of the beers are one-off brews - so if you find something you really like, you may never be able to get it again.

Best pub in Reading and possibly the country! Landlord and staff are very friendly and knowledgeable about real ales. Punters are very welcoming and you will always find someone to have a chat with over a decent pint.
Drinks are very reasonably priced and change regularly so you can sample an exhaustive range over a few weeks.
I would consider myself a local and a regular there and hope to be for years to come. :)

Don't see so many of the great alehouses around. Friendly staff, good atmosphere with a varied clientele, lots of nooks and crannies. Surprised and pleased to find they had my favourite whisky - thank you!

Great ale House, lots of choice of ale & cider. Small amount of seating inside and out. Accessibility is limited as there are stairs and small amount of room on the ground floor. Well worth a visit off you like your real ale and cider.

Quaint little Ale House with loads of character and little cubby places to sit, relax, talk and drink.
Not a large place but friendly with good beer.
If in Reading its a must place to visit and taste the beer 🍺

This old pub used to be the carriage house to the George Inn, across the road. Now it serves real ales, ciders and perries. A traditional pub, it even has little cubby holes to sit in for a bit of privacy. Well worth a visit.

Nice beers and ciders, finally they accept cards (perhaps the only positive effect of Covid). Do not stay inside if you're claustrophobic

I don't drink beer but I love this little place. It's a proper quirky old school pub that plays rock music and sells interesting drinks in a cool atmosphere

One of Readings best pubs. Always 5 or 6 diffrent ales on cask. Lot of ciders and meads as well. Friendly people, good service and good music.
