Reviews of The Back of Beyond - JD Wetherspoon

All meals were nice bar the dry lasagne where it literally came slapped on the side of a massive plate , no side salad ever came. It didn't spoil the lunch and we had a giggle. Staff were lovely, price was good. Nice outside seating are by the river.
S. J.
Excellent service and unfortunately for us this evening they had a major water leak. The manager kept us well informed and allowed us to continue to drink up our drinks. Lucky for us we just brought a round. We planned to eat but couldn't tonight so unable to give a review on the food. However we have never had a bad meal there.
Hope your back up and running soon and see you again for that meal
J. G.
I love the app, it's super cheap and this is a much nicer pub than the one at the other end of town. Yes it gets rammed at the weekend, but that is for obvious reasons...you can't get 2 drinks for less than 7 pounds in many places in Reading! Staff are polite and the food was served quickly and politely as well. Large toilets with mirrors, slightly on the edge of town. I always come here if I can.
H. A.
We were pleasantly surprised by the very low prices and the quantity and quality of food they served us, with minimal wait. Very spacious and nicely decorated. We're definitely going back again.
D. S.
Typical Wetherspoons pub. Reasonable/cheap prices and no nonsense options.
Fast and easy to order at the bar or via App. Plenty of food and drink choices.
Table was a bit messy as hadn't been cleaned after last customer. However the customer had made quite a lot of mess, so not staff at fault just inconsiderate customers.
J. W.
Large pub which was kept clean and tidy, with friendly staff members and the usual low prices for food and drink. Good selection of real ales and comfortable environment. Felt sorry for staff member who IDed a customer and got lots of verbal abuse, but they remained professional. Nicely managed pub.
C. B.
Meet up here every 3 months or so with friends, always a good night out. Food isn't Michelin starred but is fine. The drinks are well priced. Pub was clean and tidy.
S. D.
Went for a Burns Night supper - good value & included drink - running until Jan 26th. They have extended the garden area & I was happy to see some of it is non-smoking so will be good for the summer - way to cold now!
D. R.
It's a Wetherspoons... plentiful space both inside and outside. Clean enough. No music as usual.
l. S.
Traditional England Bar. Good place for you to gathering with friends. Food is average. The portion is big with reasonable price.
The garden is closed for refurbishment works till 10th November.
G. D.
As Wetherspoons go this one is above average. A good garden area and a good range of beers on my visit. Downstairs toilets are a real bonus
G. G.
Great place for an evening meet up with friends. Absolute value for money Menu.
E. D.
Good quality drinks and very good value. Not so sure of the food but you get what you pay for. If your hungry then great but sometimes overcooked
E. P.
Great place for drinks, especially at the price point! This place got flagged by a bunch of angry karen feminists but standards are standards and that is what makes the ambiance so great here. If you want to dress trashy go to the red light district.
M.
Drinks on Friday night then breakfast on Saturday + Sunday morning - Great food & service was excellent at each visit - Very polite & friendly staff/management.
p. m.
Large roomy Wetherspoons in Reading situated alongside the River Kennet, staff were very good and although busy no delay for food drinks etc. Thoroughly recommend and will visit again
V. D.
Mosquitos 🦟 in the open air sit out area, also cod fillet was not available. Usually like weather spoons value for money experience, not a good experience this time.
L. H.
3/5 chicken strips and 4.5/5 for mozzarella sticks. I mean my cat could make cheese sticks but delicious nonetheless
A. W.
Popped in to Back of Beyond for Sunday brunch, after a walk along the river. Fab Eggs Benedict and a couple of lattes for just under £5.
a. m. A.
Food was lovely and didn't have to wait long all staff were friendly good value for money
J. K.
It's similar too Reading's other Wetherspoons but the dining area is nicer. Only downside is all the tables are for 4 people. There are no tables 2 in the dining area. Except for high chairs/stools in the bar area. So the tables soon run out if only one person sitting! Food came as quick as ever and was delicious.
D. S.
Great pub, suitable for all ages,
great prices, my beer was £1-99
a pint, can't ask for better than that.
P. C.
Typical english pub. The place is really nice and there are lots of tables. Beer and cider are really good and not too much expensive.
K. C. S.
Wetherspoon pub with great food and drinks at great value for money. Always enjoy my visit to this chain pubs. Have a great outdoor sitting area along the canal.
K. R.
Food is decent for a spoons, nice outside sitting on the river and the staff are friendly
A. J.
Brought the girlfriend here for our first Wetherspoons breakfast, and I enjoyed my favourite meal of eggs Benedict!
Absolutely delicious, soft egg with a firm white and runny yolk, sweet buttery muffin and salty ham.
This is good, affordable grub. Great eating!❤️
B. U. (. R.
Clean and tidy which is not so common in Pubs, staff is friendly and helpful, good prices, Good place to talk with other people.
K. L.
Really good prices. Good beer garden. Good service.
C. D.
Fairly typical Wetherspoons. Spacious, with a view over the Kennet (it was dark). At 6 pm not busy and service was prompt with helpful staff. The app works well- worth using. dinner for two 17 quid with a good lager included( I know how to treat a woman). Extra 175 mL of house Pinot Grigio (good) £1.75!! (unannounced promo). Ventilation good, (tell the bar staff if too cold). It's not cosy and I do wish they'd clean the tables more. Ask for bar mats ! That's all.
A. R.
Yeah it's an alright place with a decent menu. Compared to few other spoons beer selection isn't as varied but still got something for everyone. However, it's much nicer than most of the other spoons ive been to. Also If you don't smoke, beer garden is very nice and right next to the Thames.
G. V.
Been here twice with my girlfriend to eat.
Food is great, very tasty!
Service super fast even when is busy!
Will definitely visit again!!
E. T.
Amazing Service , well situated and as like in any Weatherspoon great Food . 10/10
J. L.
Very spacious, amazing service, unmatched prices and loads of variety for food and drinks❤🍻👍👌
A. B.
Large area inside with plenty of menu choices at very reasonable prices, a good ambiance.
A. D.
Where else can you get a good meal for under £10.
P. G.
Same startdard as always food good and the price + service
D. K.
It was sense of being back to normality. Still covid regs but for some reason different. The staff were lovely, screens still up and table service. More people than I've seen in a long while.smoking and non smoking outside area and great clientele. Great couple of hours and great ex perience in a reasonably priced pub. I actually love it. Its the way forward
A. C.
Cheap beer and food, a nice place to meet up with friends and family for a Saturday afternoon.
U. &. L.
Best place to start your night. Download app for great deals and fast table service
A. S.
Nice enough, but looking dated now compared to some other local pubs.
.
T.
Great atmosphere. Food is surprisingly excellent. Always a good night in here .
P. D.
Comfortable Wetherspoons pub, sizeable and friendly enough. Popular with the student population and the usual two pensions, pensioner's! Likeable place to drink, waterside beer garden at the rear, note though its a fair bit dearer in cost than the other Wetherspoons in central Reading.
T. B.
Good breakfast. The garden area has been revamped, very nice
L. m.
Hot breakfast.
friendly staff.
Clean pub.
D. K.
£8.70 for a a fry up and a pint
D. O.
Definitely one of the better wetherspoon. Very good value. Nice atmosphere
B. M.
Clean, friendly. Great beer garden
V. S.
A bit tacky and overcrowded usually , but prices and friendly stuff will make you cover eyes on it.
D.
Good ale selection at the low price expected from spoons
J. B.
A Wetherspoon pub, which is not in the town centre means this pub is often less crowded than the other JDW pub. Meal club options like Curries, Steak & Fish available everyday now. Good range of beers. Had problems with ordering via the app
K. J. C.
I was surprised to get a Dairy free and Gluten free breakfast.
L. B.
Nicest Wetherspoons in Reading. Feels clean and safe. Non smoking canal side terrace.
Prices bit higher than Hope Tap.
They seemed to have clueless new staff (does meal come with free small or medium glass of wine?)
Late breakfasts looked great.
But their burger meat was a joke, crumbly, like it came out of a Bird's Eye freezer pack?
Charred on outside, falling apart in middle,
Not slightest hint it came from an animal.
Can't complain for the price, but pre-Covid Hope Tap did proper perfectly grilled chewy burgers with fresh mince.
Always had issues with Back of Beyond kitchen over other Wetherspoons in town, but is this a supply chain problem?
What I was served was worse than a McDonald's burger.
It's the meat pattie which counts.
Sad?
My stars are for the pub not the food.
D. N.
A massive Spoons in Reading that's not quite as remote as the name suggests! All the usual suspects on draught plus food menu. Large garden.
S. C.
Great food great beers and wine, lovely venue for international visitors to drop in for a feed
S. D.
It's Wetherspoons; cheap, quality food, a good selection of drinks and reasonable prices. You cannot go here expecting a restaurant experience, but if you want a friendly atmosphere and good value for money, you cannot go wrong.
A. J. P.
Top of the galaxies ...thanks for been there...my birthday favourite pub lads.
G. E.
Good weatherspoons, great value, would recommend the new lemon & herb, and hot & spicy Chicken dishes 👍
P. S.
Specious pub with garden
Friendly staff and always good prices
C. R.
Good service, lovely food, nice atmosphere
s. g.
Best spoons I've been to in reading/Berkshire. Such a gem on the outskirts of town. Somehow I also think the food tastes better hah. Really nice spacious place with gorgeous garden by river
R. B.
Great place to relax for a drink. Food decent for the price, expected of a spoons. Set up well for couples or large groups, friendly quick staff. Definitely the best place for people on a budget. The unlimited tea and coffee is real good for any students who need a place away from campus to revise as it's pretty quiet during the day and makes a nice change of pace from the library. Would procrastinate there again.
I. V.
An interesting public house with plenty of room and a good menu that is reasonably priced. The staff are easy going efficient and friendly. The food was cooked in a relatively short period and our children were made to feel very welcome . There was easy parking. We enjoyed our visit and will be returning.
s. B.
Good staff, nice fried breakfast
C.
Nice spaced out seating.Food was great. No background music to have to shout above to speak
C. B.
Very fast, polite service with a wide range of drinks and food available. Social distancing measures were fairly good but I imagine it could get rather crowded at busier times and there isn't a large amount of outdoor space. All in all an enjoyable if unextraordinary time.
N. D.
Mmmm very awesome
L. S.
Fresh , fast food , friendly staff , well priced
A. G.
Probably the roughest JDW I've been in, nice pub lots of space but the swearing was unbelievable and that was just from the women in there.Left after one pint.
P. L.
Great place, nice garden onto the water, good if basic standard Wetherspoon food. You can't complain at those prices. Recommended
N. C.
Beers are great, service is a let down.
G. G.
Wonderful place, tasty food , good price and nice staff !! 👍👍👍
F. C.
Friendly service, speedy delivery of food and drinks. Large pub, clean with the usual sticky spoons tables!? All as you would expect from a spoons pub
M.
Very popular with students. Table service via the app. Very relaxed place. Good prices and great deals available! The no longer have an explicit Gluten Free menu however certain things like the nachos and Halloumi Fries are gf. :)
i. b.
Hhmmm met up with some very old friends and made some new ones but as always the beer takes over and no fault of the Wetherspoons pub, but on a whole a very good place to visit and all of the usual facilities
J. B.
Not a bad weather spoons, toilets clean, beer cheap and good, service a little slow when ordering via app
S. A.
Lightening fast service, really good food and they also had my favorite brand of beer straight from the tap.
A. B.
Cost wise thumbs up..loved the vegetable samosa..better than typical indian restaurants
J. O.
Good choice of beer for reasonable prices and a nice little garden by the river. Pub isn't different from any other spoons and can get busy on weekends. Food isn't that great, but edible and fairly cheap. Service is quick when you use the app to order.
M. J.
21 quid for 3 meals 3 drinks. Good value for money
W. S.
Rude staff and limited covid measures. Cheap food and pints.
F. L.
Good range of good beers, great prices and a spacious, calm atmosphere - great for conversation with friends or just a quiet drink. Good variety of indoor seating, plus an outdoor seating area. You can even order from your table via a smartphone app. Food looks OK too but haven't tried it yet.
S. S.
It's a really good Weatherspoons. Reliable cheap food, good service and nice surroundings. It's a very big pub so there is nearly always a table free. There's a nice garden with heaters but this gets dominated by the smokers of course. It's a really good place for a drink or a meal
D. C.
Nice beer & I like the place.Mrs ordered a Christmas veggie burger, & it came with brie cheese & pigs in blankets which I thought was hilarious. No harm done, they replaced the sausage & bacon favourite with onion rings but it would appear that cheese is still plant based
D. A. d. C.
Consistent quality at affordable prices. You know what to expect.
J. P.
Nice garden and draft Leffe 😀
C. M.
Although I’ve never been on a busy night this is a good pub with great table service. It may have been the lack of patrons but an atmosphere felt lacking. However, as with most JD Wetherspoons pubs the choice of food and drinks and themed nights means it’s worth a visit on any day of the week!
T. C.
My first experience dining in England was most enjoyable! A bit of a change from American “pubs”, here you seat yourself, look over the menu and wander up to the bar and place your order. I got a marvelous Eggs Benedict, delivered very quickly and was nice and hot and very tasty. All of our food was well presented.
We had dinner here a few nights later, a very traditional meal of sausages, mashed potatoes and evidently inevitable green peas. Again, all our food came very quickly and was very good. We also had a British BLT—I had no idea British bacon was so different than American. Nice crusty roll with excellent tomatoes (much more flavorful than an average restaurant tomato) with big slabs of bacon (looks and tastes more like Canadian Bacon). Recommended.
d. r.
Nice food and good quality of service
V.
I love BOB as we know it affectionately. A popular place to eat and drink with good selection of ales and food at affordable prices. A welcoming bar with rear riverside patio, friendly staff and mixed crowds of all ages. Children are welcome too.
m. b.
Great choice of real ale, many seasonal offering and variation. The food follows the standard Wetherspoon menu format, but always is good quality. Central location and good customer service. Regular visitor when in the area, vising family.
D. P.
Good service and good food. New menu available. Some food items are up in price.
J. P.
Decent size place n food was nice
J. M.
Very good every time good beer goog food always clean great day, thank you to all the staff 😀
R. O.
Perfect place for a quick meal. Quite and great service.
R. D.
Typical Wetherspoon pub, large with an ouside area at the back. Value driven prices so always a good deal for food and drink
I. M.
Now where do I start. Top entertainment. Never laughed so much. Full of earthy beautiful people. So pleased to be a part of this delightful treat to the senses. Ambience of the Rovers Return. Can't wait to return.
G. W.
Best stella I've had in ages..
B. S.
This is our favorite spoons- good service, lovely outdoor space, cheap & cheerful. They do an excellent breakfast & serve some of the best fish n chips I've had. Staff are always kind & polite.
P. G.
Came here for lunch with colleagues.. the food we orders was tasty and came out REALLY quick. Like within 5 minutes of ordering.
A large range of drinks were available at the time of visiting, would definitely come again for lunch.
L. P.
A really nice little pub just outside of town. Good food for the price and pretty quick service. I've been going down for lunch and easy to get two courses down within an hour's break. Usually not too busy so you can actually have a conversation without shouting.
J. G.
Quite pleasant for a Wetherspoons. Naturally, there's cheap beer and food and free refills on coffee. There are many tables so there's almost always a seat and room for large parties, although it can get a bit noisy if you end up sitting near one. There is outside seating beside the River Kennett, but the surrounding buildings mean that that's not as attractive as it sounds. It's worth the short walk from the town centre.
N.
Immense location to get a pint. Classic Spoons prices, by the river, several pints, delicious food (although someone once told me it’s almost all microwaved)! I’m several pints in writing this review. Thought I saw Patrice Evra in there one time, but then saw the bloke only had one leg. But I digress...
G. B.
Superb real ale drinkers' pub in the centre of Reading, great atmosphere, huge variety of ever changing cask ales and no music blaring out. Conversation rules here and is was the perfect place to meet up with two old friends. Got talking to quite a few locals who all seemed like a friendly bunch. My sort of pub.
L. M.
It's a classic Wetherspoons so if that's what you're seeking you won't be disappointed. Food is below average prices for the area but the quality reflects this. Free water can be found at the dispenser at the bar and they use the Wetherspoons app so you can order from the comfort of your table (great way of avoiding the queue as well as the hustle and bustle at the bar.)
G. F.
Very well organised staff polite table service is good.
Make sure you have the app on your phone save time as this is the only way to order anything
Food was okay but for the burnt onion bhaji
T.
Your typical weatherspoons. If you go there in the morning, expect most the patrons to be middle aged to elderly men having a pint with a newspaper. But not a reason to be put off by that. It makes feel comforting I feel. Rather than an empty pub or loud and full of young crowds.
It is very spaces with plenty of seats and areas where you can eat or drink more privately. Ranging from booths to round the corner secluded areas. They also have an outdoor beer garden over looking the Thames. So can be a nice get away from the rush of inner city life. Menu wise, it's a Wetherspoons, so Check out their menu online. But unlimited refill 'any' coffee or tea till 2pm keeps me coming back for more. Food is actually really lovely, for the speed that it comes out at. I take my family there most Sunday mornings for breakfast. Good place to take families if you have children. I'm never embarrassed if my 3 year old wants to wonder around the table or sit under it. To sum up, great pub for the family or mates. Food is quick, good price, and surprisingly good. Lovely views out back. Quiet during the day. Busy at nights. Child friendly. The only reason I gave it a 4/5 is the parking. Only parking is pay and display on the road out the front if there is a space. Otherwise I fully recommend.
L. R.
Great atmosphere and the staff are lovely! Massive thank you to Lillie, Kayie and Harry for great service and being so polite!
R. C.
5/5 FSA rating as of 21/01/2019. Decent service especially via the app. Sometimes ordering via the app can mean you get a pitcher instead of a glass. Decent food, in particular a fan of the chicken tikka masala and halloumi fries, though sometimes the quality can be a bit poorer (can be a bit tough). Seating is a bit odd, often not enough seats overall. Good for a casual meet with friends.
N. S.
Good Pub. Wide selection of drinks. friendly staff
T. W.
A very good pub/restaurant just on the edge of Reading Town centre. There is a good variety of beers at a very good price, hence it is popular with the students as well as the locals. Can get very busy.
C.
Large open indoor area with plenty of room for seating and standing. There's also an outside patio next to the River Kennet. Carpets and furniture are clean and in good condition compared with many Wetherspoons. Bar and food service was good, no shortage of printed menus.
R. M.
Football friendly. It a Spoons good value.
S. P.
Great place to hangout . Good food. Awesome range of drinks. Cozy ambience. Packed on Fridays. Large seating space. Clean toilets. Garden seating with heaters. A bit grumpy staff but all above overpowers that.
M. R.
Great food. Well spaced out inside. Staff friendly. Had a good time.
C. T.
Still love this pub.. Great selection of ales! Food decently priced
S. G.
I've rated it 5 star as it is particularly good for a Wetherspoons. Situated a 5-10 minute walk from town, it tends to be generally less busy than the town centre pubs. The patio is by the Kennet and tends to benefit from the river breeze. Food and beer is as you'd expect. Generally a nice place to be for a couple of pints (but see my review of the Allied Arms).
A. L.
Nice place to meet you mates for a pint and cheap food. 1 star off for the grumpy barman, think he's the manager, otherwise excellent staff. Can't believe weatherspoon promoted a grump to manage the front of house.
T.
Should be a listed building really, best place in Reading.
D. L.
Great beer and service.
Garden looking good and well used.
S. B.
Fine enough, could do with interior refresh but no complaints, staff work hard for probably not a high rate of pay?
S. S.
Great food. The service was great and the waiters/waitresses were really kind and friendly.
J. S.
Food was good, Bellas food came with a hair in it, but it was funny for the rest of us so that’s calm and the waitress was super nice and gave her a free beverage.
S. M.
It's easy to shrug at a large chain pub like Wetherspoons, but the Back of Beyond has great value food and drink, with a good range of real ales and craft beers. It's well-presented, the kitchen and bar staff are friendly and efficient, and it seems there's a good batch of locals and regulars. Wednesday night pub quiz is a good night out, even with a small group of friends.
S. F.
It's a wetherspoons. So the quality of what you get to eat is always a surprise - sometimes is good, sometimes looks like a leftover! The prices have increased a lot over the last 2 years. The drinks are still cheap though
T. S.
Nice place, sometimes takes a while to to be served even when there's hardly anyone at the bar. But overall cheap, cheerful and the food is pretty standard wetherspoons quality.
E. T.
Usual 'spoons experience, Bigger than the other 2 in town (the Monk's retreat and the hope tap). Big, open plan single room styled Wetherspoons. Food is okay, you get what you pay for. The drinks are however more expensive than the Monk's retreat for some reason best known to themselves and to the local's colossal irritation.
Great beer garden on the riverside so not a bad place to spend the afternoon. Wish they would stop trying to milk the prices though as we are not central London.
S. S.
Our favourite local. Great cheap food, sometimes too busy and no seating available, friendly staff and happy to help with my food intolerances. Vegan and vegetarian dishes on the menu and pub quiz every Wednesday evening.
S. B.
Always very nice friendly and clean
W. D.
Better than the average Wetherspoons. Being just outside the main town centre means it's lively while rarely feeling overcrowded, there is a decent (better than most 'spoons, at least) selection of beer that's still relatively cheap, and the staff are friendly.
S. B.
Curry club night, i realy enjoyed it and the beer was good.
S. R.
Great service, very good food for the price, and love the coffee options! Just a note: no dogs on the patio
E. M. W.
Very busy had an issue with the food they did sort it out, Just a bit cold but that's due to keeping the air flow
T. L.
Great pub but let down by one member of staff it costs nothing to be nice very unprofessional
l. n.
Had a few drinks here nice atmosphere friendly staff.
M. A.
Went in for one..... you know the rest.
had two pints....
Decided to be smart got food..
Food very good....
More pints as food was good.....
Chatting to staff (sorry) but they were friendly and "Ahem" accomidation to my situation. David or Dave very funny kept me laughing, seen him there before and made funny points.
Will be back after work next payday hopefully with "fit Tali" whos in my office and fit.
Cheers
J. M.
It’s a Wetherspoons guys. Love the service received by Josh, was a fun guy who kept up with our group the whole evening and helped us enjoy the whole experience.
Let’s be real here. You want a drink, you want it cheap, you want a good time. This Wetherspoons offers this as standard with some entertaining extras thrown in. Definitely worth the slightly extra walk from the “other” spoons simply for the staff.
K. B.
Definitely understaffed even for a quiet Monday. My go-to Wetherspoons meal is the Lamb Shank, from East London to Devizes always a safe bet. This time it was either left in the oven too long, or microwaved twice! the root vegetables were shriveled, and you had to cut the mashed potatoes, shame.
J.
Very good for a spoons. Decent amount of seating inside, and a good amount of tables outside as well. Food is as to be expected and the drinks are as cheap as ever. Always a good spot to start a night out from.
R. C.
Clean pub, efficient staff, usual selection of food. Very quick service. Only negative point is lack of nearby parking.
S. N.
Lovely pub, speedy service, good food and super friendly staff! Although I suppose one of the chaps who seemed to be the man in charge at the bar could learn to pick up a thing or two about customer service.
T. G.
Friendly staff, good selection of drink and food - except if you have a good allergy. From a conversation with staff since the updated food regs came out they have discontinued the allergy menus.
F. K.
Love it. Been a Customer for many's a year and spent all ma money on whisky and beer as well as the chicken wings, fish suppers, burgers etc. Tremendous value for money and staff are very welcoming and friendly. Why splash more cash for an inferior product elsewhere?! Slainte mhath. Ruaridh A-Gig.
W. B.
Classic spoons! It's one of the nicer ones with beautiful garden, lots of flowers and seating by the water. Very much enjoyed the order for table service on the app!
D. “. K.
The food is always great and good service
B. P.
Standard 'spoons. Different ales from the spoons on Friar st, and weirdly slightly more expensive. Cleaner and airier too, with the outside area off to one side offering a lovely view of the canal
A. U.
Good cheap Wetherspoons pub. Slightly out of town but that makes it nicer. Lovely seating/smoking area out the back set on the river.
k. “. D.
Cheap and cheerful very budget
N. T.
Quick and easy to order, food arrived very swiftly and tasted great. We came for the eat out to help out scheme and the price was amazing
R. B.
1 off the nicer weather spoons pub a short walk away from town, lots of seating inside and an outside seating on the river
G. E.
The lasagna was quite tastey both the beef and veggie. The salad was meh... Mostly because it was strong of horseradish and I don't like horseradish. They had lots of tastey drink options.
F. B.
Good place for beers n such. Better vibe than the other spoons. Good service, especially if you're lucky enough to get served by Ed. He is a dreamboat.
L. S.
A great service of food and beer which is reasonably priced however the "manager" had little to no people skills. We found him extremely unwelcoming and rude. His staff however were very polite and helpful.
P. E.
Very much like other wetherspoons, garden on the river side though is a nice bonus.
J. T.
Always a great place to relax and have a drink with your friends!
l. s.
A wetherspoons pub, what more to say? Cheap food and a good selection of beers and ales whether during beer festival or not. Friendly staff and quick service, there's always a table to sit at as well.
P. B.
Large, standard Wetherspoons serving plenty of real ale and basic pub grub. No music so easy to have a good natter. No complaints from me :-)
M. K.
Good Wetherspoon, located walking distance of the high Street. Excellent value on curry meal on today Thursday. Tasted well. £8.80 for large curry and a 🍻.
B. H.
Larger than average pub. Good choice of beers and shots. There is also pub food. Large garden space, where you can smoke or just enjoy the outside.
D. O.
One of the best spoons in the country
This place has a brilliant selection of real ales, the staff are friendly and know their stuff, the pub as a whole is huge and has a big outside area. This makes a mockery of the other spoons in Reading.
B. M.
Lovely afternoon sitting in the beer garden drinking cold beer. Good all round pub, spacious and well laid out. Normally a busy bar though.
i. j.
Great service with a smile, yummy food , relaxed and great atmosphere. Chilling after work with a colleague and had some awesome peri, peri chicken skewers, haloumi cheese and salad . Must try Singapore noodles with chicken too . Definitely give it a try 😊
S. H.
Best wetherspoons in Reading, consistently good beers and very good selection of both beers and spirits. Food is standard wetherspoons fayre but quality is high and well priced. Nice garden next to the Kennet.
A. N.
Decent food, moderate prices a la Wetherspoon's, but what I like the most is it's almost never too busy and you don't have to shout over the noise, the staff are also friendly.
F. 2.
Good price pints
K. L.
Outside the town centre but situated next to the River Kennet so lovely setting
D. S.
Nice Cosy great Value place if you can where ear plugs or earphones you might even block out the language at times even before 10am seemingly swearing back in Vogue 👍Could get five stars if background music was used to block it out sometimes...great choice of Beers too 👍
P. J.
Very good for food , drink affordable place for commun people .good
L. J. L.
Good place for a drink and a bite to eat at a very reasonable price!
R. Y.
Great food, service and drinks selection. Several draft ciders! Unfortunately, being a Spoons, there's no music, but atmos is good and low cost. Highly recommended...
P. P.
Good service, only disappointment, was unable to enjoy full dining out experience because if a few drunk people being very loud and annoying
L. a. W.
Great for meets ups with friends or colleagues. Even better if you have the Wetherspoon app every thing is delivered to you no need to get up, just enjoy the night with friends.
R. W.
A bit of a walk from the centre. Good food and reasonably priced staff generally friendly. However the Manager was very impatient and sarcastic the last time I was here. Good seating area in and outside.
P. S.
Lovely place to have pint and is literally next door 🚪😜
C. R.
Always a good atmosphere generally in here. Food is always good. Staff always friendly and if there is a problem with anything, they've always been happy to help.
V. P.
Not the best wethespoons that I have been to, but it was ok.
I. T.
Good food and service.
H. P.
It became my favorate bar in Reading. Good atmosphere, wide selection of food and drinks for an accommodating price, kind and
professional service etc. It simply provides everything customers could expect!
C. C.
As ussual a really good place for a breakfest or lunch.
Fast service and clean restaurant.
The food is tasty altough sometimes they mess up bringing cold food but is okay at least for the price u pay.
P. W.
Spacious and tidy.... Lovely garden area overlooking the river, this Weatherspoons would be really nice with a bit of a warmer welcome.
7.
Big space , cheap , very nice
G. T.
Usually good selection of ales, good service and favourable prices.
L.
Smoking and non-smoking "gardens", nice and simple. Shame no little food options atm but that to be expected.
B. P.
Fairly typical Weatherspoons, so you know what you are getting. Has a beer garden and plenty of space for bigger groups. One of the cheapest places to drink in Reading
P. R.
Typical Wetherspoons with affordable prices for both food and drink. Popular pub despite slightly higher beer prices compared to the other Wetherspoons pub in town.
J. R. H.
Have been here several times over the years to have a works Christmas do - cheap and cheerful place to eat and a great starting point for a fun night out in Reading.
T. P.
Decentish pub, good range of beers and a few nice bar staff. Food is ok. Can also order to your table via an app, which is a nice touch.
t. g.
Very nice area. 👌
E. H.
A typical Wetherspoons - a great place to meet friends, for drinks or a meal. There's a nice canal-side garden for the warmer weather.
R. P.
Another great Wetherspoons pub. Lovely meal and drinks at unbelievable low prices. No wonder they are always very busy
J. P.
The venue is a Bit dated for a Wetherspoons, I over heard a female bar staff being rude too her fellow colleague which seemed to be bullying, I was I bit upset to see as the guy she was bullying seemed a bit timid #bullybiatch #jobsworth #retrain #getalife #whyamievenwritingthis
J. S.
It was OK for a quick drink; a table of loud locals gradually grew in size as time went by so we took that as our cue to bail out at one drink.
J. B.
A good friendly pub, Good staff nice atmosphere and a garden at the back. Good food and all well priced. Good night out.
H. S.
Nice breakfast here! Not very expensive. Nice to go there once in a while. And now they have bottomless coffee!
A. Z.
Whenever i go into this pub its lovely, cosy and just a nice place to drink. The prices are low as well and stuff are usually friendly :)
M. M.
Usual food, dirty place. But lovely staff members. Helpful hint I wouldn't recommend using the toilets here.
D. W.
A good Wetherspoons!
E. T.
It's alright. Often everyone in there looks a bit miserable. Maybe it's because they're on a break from work. Maybe it's because that's the only place they can go? Who knows. A few more smiles in there might be nice though.
L. B.
Friendly staff, plenty of seating, cheap beer and food! This Wetherspoons isn't so close to the town centre, so is often more relaxed.
M. M.
Love it here xx
M. C.
good range of food and drinks and a good price and reasonably quick service - can be quite busy in evenings but plenty of seating would recommend
L. C.
So happy to be back! Great atmosphere, food, Prossecco and Service 😊
A. R. Y.
Better outlook than Hope Tap. Good food and customer service!
s. k.
It's a Wetherspoon. The least unpleasant in Reading centre. Staff are friendly, it's generally clean, the beer is cheap and interesting. Brexit dividend ahoy!
L. S.
Great value and cosy booths as well as the more open tables. Great place to meet up and have a coffee.
R. H.
Beers and food very good. Ambience not good!
J. A.
The food is cheap and very tasty, they are so fast serving your food, is a confortable place to stay. I totally recomend It
T. P.
Good pub, busy but great service also has a beer garden next to the river, which is spacious and has plenty of places to sit
M. C.
Second best boozer in Reading however it only earns that title for being cheap and having plenty of space by the river, don't expect anything too special
S. K.
Typical Spoons. Good choice of Beers and food.
J. B.
My usual wetherspoons. Cheap enough, this time made a much more enjoyable experience being served by Josh. Was attentive and helpful. And will definitely return
R. B.
Decent food and prices, at busy times is extremely loud and can be very difficult to get a seat. Good pub!
S. M.
Fairly standard Weatherspoons pub with a good range of lagers and beers. The beef Madras was not too bad at all.
F. F.
Good friendly service. A goood variety of beers. Cumfertable location. One of the better Weatherspoons locations to enjoy.
G. B.
I've eaten there on several occasions and the food and service has always been good.
J. G.
Best wetherspoons left in Reading. Please don't close this one down. Would hate to have to go to the hope tap to enjoy a wetherspoons meal!
L. W.
Good size and brilliant service for a spoons.
J. V.
Nice place. Good job with the CoVid new requirements. And most of the times quieter than town center places.
S. A.
I have been to better Spoonz

A. C.
Good food. Reasonably priced. Typical Wetherspoons. Long walk from the town centre. But worth it
N. J.
They are very serious about covid which is always good however some of the older staff have been rude whilst i was there or i have heard about this from other people.
M. V.
Personally I enjoy the food, friendly staff and the prices is OK
e.
Great place to have a drink
J. B.
A very standard Wetherspoons with a good range of drinks and quick service, marred by a fairly prominent cast of spiders inhabiting the roof and light fittings.
t. e.
Best weatherspoons I've been too. Excellent service. Steak was amazing. Worth the walk from the town centre.
G. M. (.
Weatherspoons which isn't as crowded as Hope Tap (other weatherspoons), service is good, atmosphere tends to be mostly business folk and mature crowds (unlike Monks Retreat which tends to see students being closer to town).
R. Y.
Good value and atmosphere, though we wish they would clean the tables more frequesntly...
A. H.
Good food and real ale.....staff very pleasant.....in contrast to the sullen little manager.
M. D.
There's a few Wetherspoons pubs in Reading, but in my opinion this one always has a good selection of real ales to choose from.
S. B.
Much better than the other spoons down the road. Quieter and cleaner and always receive quick service
R. P.
A fine town centre pub as a base for meeting friends. Always a good range of beers. Staff friendly and efficient.
J. P.

Good place for a get-together, had a good natter with friends over a pint or three.
S. B.
Local Wetherspoons - a little out of the main town so it can be a bit quieter. Good place to meet for social drinks where you actually want a conversation.
K. I.
Great cocktails, great food, an amazing night!
M. O.
Great pub, friendly bar staff. Far enough away from central Reading to keep the scummy element away. Jason Lord runs a nice safe pub.
E. L.

Cheap, but food quality often lacking. Good drinks selection compared to some.

Wetherspoon's, popular, slightly outside the core Reading pub crawl area as indicated by the name. Usual Wetherspoon's facilities, beer, food, reasonable prices.
