Reviews of The Hope Tap - JD Wetherspoon

My food was lovley had the mixed grill sausages are yummy. My dad's steak was not the best. Desert was lovley chocolate brownie with ice cream ... Lol a teaspoons full of ice cream though. At the price worth it.
C. L.
A traditional British restaurant, reasonably priced, quality food, worth exploring
Y. M.
Easy place for where to start your night out or finish it off.
Good selection of beers which are good value for money, spirits and cocktails.
I generally go there to enjoy my Leffe.
H. P.
Decent place for cheap alcohol and food. Plenty of seating though can get quite busy and hot. You can order food and drink on the app which I find great. Especially when the bar is very crowded.
I. “. S.
Standard Wetherspoon establishment, ageing in appearance, could do with a refurb. Generally a good selection of real ales, not too busy on a Tuesday afternoon. Only one coffee machine was working but it was sufficient.
Y. A.
Always good to go a Wetherspoon. Breakfast was very light we had beans on toast, porridge, coffees , not bad.Only the beans on toast were warm, acceptable, just.
L. C.
Had great night out with big group of friends, service was rapid and friendly, drinks were cheap but good and food was fresh and tasty.. stuff even went ahead with our online order prank of milk and biscuits for our friend and made it a good laugh
D. H.
Great for a drink or two and usual weatherspoons grub, very reasonable but after the pandemic never seems to have half the menu in stock
M. S.
It's a spoons, so you get what you get, cheap cheerful, would be 4 star but one person I was with never even had his food cooked so got refund.
M. H.
A very popular Wetherspoon pub restaurant in the middle of Reading Town Centre but it lacks the usual standard of excellence that we are used to in other Wetherspoon branches. The service is fast and staffs very helpful but the food quality is not as good. The furniture, floor carpets & decor are all run down!
i. E.
Food was good, had a big breakfast and it arrived quickly and was hot, staff were one of the friendliest I've come across and very efficient.
C. S.
Another good Spoons, staff on the ball keeping everyone apparently safe from the bat-flu situation. Always helpful friendly and polite.
Food good, but no egg with my mixed grill.
m. A.
Stopped for a quick drink, staff were friendly, atmosphere was so so. Mainly older crowd. Not really my scene.
M. A.
Very pricy. Lady at the counter was amazingly helpful and advised us. Staff like these are saviour to places like these
N. P.
Your average Weatherspoons pub where everything including the service is good as all the other ones.
Came here for breakfast, it came out hot and well presented. The vegan breakfast tasted nice and even though the added extra beans are not vegan, staff pointed out a number of times informing that they are not vegan as we ordered a vegan breakie.
The best thing was it was a lot cheaper then the central London branches which are often visted.
A. R. Y.
Good food, good price. Atmosphere could be better but overall a nice wetherspoon!
J. “. H.
Best chips I've had from a spoons all year and the staff were actually lovely
N. C.
It's a Wetherspoons, dark, busy, a bit dingy, always one drunk person getting thrown out, but cheap and cheerful, food came fast, two meals and two drinks for the price of two drinks in another bar. You don't go for the ambience!
S. D.
Great prices and vibe. But too much rowdiness on occasions so it's not for everyone!
J. T.
Great H&S measures in place. Friendly service, clean pub, lovely food. Cheap drinks and food, spacious. Definitely worth a visit.
J. G.
It's fine when it isn't too busy. Drinks are super cheap and the app is great. Avoid on weekends though, it's too busy and very messy
a. l.
Good pub but never seems to be enough staff behind the bar I have left about 3 times in the last couple of weeks because of the time waiting to get served.
S. S.
Spent my 21st having lunch there. Staff were kind of rude. Customers however were lovely.
K. C.
Lovely pub
Staff were nice
Everything was up to standard for the Soical distanceing measures with one way systems and hand sanitizers dotted around.
Food was fairly quick but was really nice
j. h.
Typical spoons. Decent prices. Toilets too far away. Good prompt service
F. C.
Busy pub, can feel more like a crèche at times! Usual menu, service fast, not always friendly. Plan going to the loo as it is a big staircase upstairs to the toilets. Usual sticky spoons tables.
D.
Good service and great ale, food typical spoons.... cheap and adequate
J. G.
Great bar, great range of drinks, could use some more chairs for the tables
B. L.
Nice place. Gets very busy at times. Door staff can be over zealous at times.
P. D. T.
When you are in Reading town centre and what to chill with friends for a longer period this is the place. Cheap beers 🍻 that means your pocket last longer. The only down thing is when you are drunk the way to the toilet is like climbing mountain Everest.
s. o.
The beer was as always well kept and the usual excellent prices and choice. If you like a quiet pint it probably isn't the place to go on a Saturday though. Efficient staff.
P. G.
Standard Spoons. Good beer, quick food, and sensible prices
M. E. h.
The atmosphere was tense but the quorn nuggets were delicious and hearty. My waiter was a short emo boy with an impressive fringe I believe his name was Jason. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit and will no doubt be returning for a Monster vodka on a cheeky Monday. Excellent service from the intimidating but welcoming girl with blue tips. There was a distinct and saddening lack of mayonnaise in the venue, I believe Jason was responsible but I do not hold it against him for his service was legendary.
Y. R.
Visited for a family get together with breakfast. It was very busy as usual, but the food was very good and we enjoyed the occasion.
K. C. S.
Weatherspoon pub with great value food and drinks. Good, clean and friendly staff.Big selection of meals and drinks.
C. B.
Good tasty meals, great variety of beers, busy on weekends, so it slow the service.
C. G.
You get what you would expect.
Slightly sticky, very busy on a Saturday.
With good food for a low price.
T. B.
Good food, nice drinks, good prices. A place I will definitely visit
C. C.
Looking at bit tired, but still great value for money. Good food as well.
V. S.
This is quite a good price pub. Food is not so good. I tried fish and chips.
L. M.
Very nice place food and drink pretty good for a wetherspoon
w. t.
Everyone know Wetherspoon is good for cask beer & ales. Even its ale festival is going on now a days. Btw first time there, get atmosphere good. Staff is good n attentive. No doubt staff is busy to make everything good. Service is quick. But still one thing bothered me. Most of the tables were sticky n never been clean. Not feel
Comfortable with that. Apart from that, all good. Plenty of seating to enjoy the drink or food as everyone know about their food n curries.
C. R.
Not too bad
But had workman decide to fix tables next to me in the middle of eating.
e.
Always packed at weekends can never get a seat inside. Good selection of drinks and ales
J. B.
A popular bar of the Wetherspoon chain, which serves decent beer & food at reasonable prices. The pub tends to be very busy Friday & Saturday evenings, but there are quiet times to enjoy breakfast & lunch, and evenings Sunday to Wednesday. Now very busy Saturday evening, almost impossible to reach the bar, long waiting times to be served
A. J.
I took the girlfriend in here for lunch, and had a beautiful meal! The grilled halloumi was delicious, and I think will remain as a Wetherspoons favourite. The king prawns in breadcrumbs were particularly good, flavoursome and crunchy. Ended up very full, and the girlfriend had a wonderful time 😃
J. L.
Great place and ambience the prices are amazing and the options for food are awesome too👍👌🍻
W. H.
The usual fine breakfast, but the staff were struggling to clear up and wipe tables.
N. C.
Always good for good beer and very well priced
A. D.
Very friendly staff, quick service even at a busy period which is lovely. Nice decor
S. P.
Very busy when I visited but there was still plenty of room
P. S.
Reasonable prices
Good choice of alcoholic drinks and tasty food
I. H.
I like the hope tap especially on a Saturday night, the lager I drink is carling pretty cheap too, cheaper than a social club or a British Legion. The atmosphere is pretty good being very busy. The only downfall is that during the last 3 months of this year is the gents toilets have been out of order we had to queue in the disabled toilet and some occasions the wi fi is down.
L. I.
Was nice and quiet. Food was lovely and staff friendly.
A. D.
I enjoyed this place a lot last Saturday, ill visit soon !!
P. S.
I always think of this as the "easyjet" of pubs. As long as you bare that in mind you won't be disappointed. Heineken, stella and bar food at a fraction of the cost of its neighbour's. Plenty of places to find a seat. Staff all friendly and helpful. The footfall alone confirms it all works.
B. A.
Value for money... very lively and busy. Ideal for both young and old adults. If you are porch notch type.. then this is not the place for you.
R. M.
Good selection of beer and cheap good food portions aswell
C. C.
Alex VEAL IS AMAZING I LOVE HER amazing service lofe
K. F.
Typical wetherspoons, cheap cheerful and good portions of food served. The staff are a happy bunch and make you feel welcome.
W. d. B.
Large pub, good seating and small patio seating area out at the back of the pub! Good prices for food and drink with a lot of brand's to chose from, and good staff service too!
t. c.
Lovely atmosphere and greatly priced drinks and food
i. w.
Busy pub so took slightly longer than usual to get served. Good pint of ale (just as well as not much choice). Overall no complaints, pub did its job !
G. L.
Great pub, good atmosphere, friendly staff, reasonably priced beer and alcoholic drinks, meals are cheaply priced. Will be back again.
j. m.
Good beers and prices great selection of food probably best prices in reading.
s. B.
OK, but no food service on the day I went
S. D.
Busy, but nice. Reading highstreet. Your typical weather spoons.
B. G.
I rate The Hope Tap 3/5 not because the experience wasn't nice but just because the bar and tables could have had a clean and wipe as it isn't nice to order or eat by dirty tables. The food prices was good and reasonable and food was cooked so good and tasted amazing I must say plus with the drink prices I was impressed. Customer service was friendly and got extactly what ordered the way I was expecting it.
W. P.
Fast service. Pretty much good drinks apart from flat coke from tap gun. But I ask for better quality and I'll be offer one for can which was way better
C. T. L.
I was a regular customer there until the quality of the food became low.
I went two days ago and we waited for 25 minutes someone to come to order.
I needed to leave because a lot of people came without masks and boll
E. W.
Good price for beer n food meal
S. C.
Good service. Nice porridge
C. N.
It's a pretty good spoons and the food was alright. Fast service despite it being busy but the garlic bread was a bit basic and didn't have any cheese which was a little sad as it was a bit tasteless due to the garlic butter drying out. If you love a plain pizza base then get the garlic bread but otherwise? Maybe give it a pass. That being said, the drinks were nice and it was a good atmosphere with very friendly staff and I would go again
v. b.
Ya cant beet spoons on price ! But a little back ground music maybe?? X
T.
Great pub, love the atmosphere and staff, there's also a great selection of drinks. However, a security guard kept accusing me of going out back with people on our table (who weren't) and got very annoyed. Tried talking to him but he wasn't even bothering to listen.
H. S.
Met a friend for soft drinks and a catch up.
Not a particularly inspiring place but perfectly fine for what it is.
I wouldn't choose to go here but as a quick cheap place it was fine.
My friend had a breakfast which he enjoyed. It all looked like fairly cheap budget range. The plate was quite full.
D. M.
Food was fresh and hot which you don't seem to get at any other wetherspoons and the staff where great, manageress even made a point of coming outside to ask if our food and drinks were okay, she and her staff where great
K. T.
staff are lovely but took 45 mins for 2 drinks to arrive after ordering (it wasn't even busy)
F. T.
I loved my visit. I enjoyed very reasonably priced booze at the JD wetherspoon. I had a chicken bbq and cheese panini. It was very nice. My co-worker and myself could not think of a time where we had a poor meal at the wetherspoons.
The service was also very good. Will definitely be visiting again.
M. I.
Easy access to bar and nice smoking area
d. l.
Really nice pub, very crowded but enjoyable for Xmas works do
p. j.
Food was nothing special had bangers n mash not enough gravy. Extremely busy but we went on a Saturday so I can't complain to much about that. Family area but full so had to sit in a different part with my toddler. Good atmosphere. Good if you go on a non busy day
A. C.
No frills. Basic wetherspoons experience. Had fish and chips. Fish was a bit dry. Not as good as some I've had at other wetherspoons
D. G.
One of the best Wetherspoon I've been to, and I've been to a lot. Friendly, happy serving staff and, unlike a lot of Wetherspoon, very timely with app orders. Food came quickly and it was of an amazing quality considering it's just the local.
T. T.
Always big fun at the Hope Tap.
Good value drinks as you would expect.
Would recommend coming here for a drink if you are a laid back individual.
Service can be hit and miss with rude barpeople.
Excellent outside area for smokers/fans of 'fresh' air.
J. C.
Typical Weatherspoons. Good pub! But you do get better Weatherspoons in other towns
N. F.
Typical Spoons. Good food wide selection of beverages. Polite staff
A. P.
A very nice pub with a good range of beers. and the food is great too. And very helpful staff.
J. S.
Cheap and cheerful pub. It gets busy at times but there's plenty of places to sit. Good variety of drinks and hard to beat prices. It's a good place to start off before a night out. Or good to just stop and have a pint when you're sick of shopping.
T. W.
Good breakfast, friendly staff and unlimited coffee. What more do you need. A very good menu all day. Some interesting characters and not a pub where you will feel lonely. Worth a visit. PS. Try the pancakes and maple syrup with ice cream. ( my diabetic nurse is not going to like this ).
S. M.
Well set up covid wise. The lady on the door was firm but fair and made a really good first impression. Well done Weatherspoon!
Good good value and ordered on app to minimise customer contact.
Friendly staff and good table service.
P. W.
Good reasonable pub restaurant with plenty of seating areas and very popular with families groups or singles with breakfast highly recommended. Unlimited tea and coffee with a meal and children's menu and some beautiful buildings, this chain is a good choice in any town or city.
P. R.
I love a good 'spoons and this is certainly one of them. Always busy when we have been and fabulously cheap and cheerful. My number one favourite for a hearty breakfast after a exciting night in Reading. The sausages are just lush, add a John Smith's to an all day breakfast and I am a happy kitten. Yum.....mie
P. W.
Love Wetherspoons.... This Reading branch is very large and has a lovely open fire and genial atmosphere as well as comfortable seating. All the usual great breakfasts.... traditional and modern for a truly reasonable price. A good venue for families... Get together and just chill with good hot food and reasonable prices and you only pay for the first coffee or tea... Then you can have as many as you want.
E. N.
Good pub. Can be noisy. Normal standards that you'd expect from a weatherspoons. Bar staff are friendly. Guest ales are normally pleasing. Tables are normally kept clean. Would be good if there was more room as it can get busy.
C. M.
Seen by the university students as the second choice Wetherspoons pub in Reading, the Hope Tap tends to be the quieter of the two. This by no means however, means it is quiet. Boasting a lively atmosphere and all the themed nights you’d expect in one of central Reading’s most popular pubs. For the club era after a short walk to the venue it is on Friar Street and only a few metres from many nightclubs. It is only a short walk to the station or the other direction to St Marys Butts.
A. T.
Visited The Hope Tap last Friday with family and friends for a night out which was really good and the staff were great to talk to, so definitely a good place to start you night off.
Also visited a few days before with some friends and have no complaints, pricing is moderate and nice little beer garden out back.
G. K.
Visited this place on Saturday evening. It was extremely crowded and extremely noisy. No place to sit or even stand. My impression was that dozens of stag and hen parties are ongoing parallel with the following goals in mind:
- Drink more and faster than anybody else around
- Behave in a more ridiculous way than anybody else around
I would say they had complete success. It was a cultural shock for me in a way, never seen anything similar...
G. G.
Excellent Weatherspoons pub. A little congested, however it is value for money and fun catchup place with dear ones.
O. T.
The staff was very friendly and it was a nice place with clean toilets- important! :) unfortunatelly the food was disappointing. please please buy a better quality ingredients, especially baked beans!!
g. t.
Great pub. Good food, great service, clean tidy pub
H. C.
No light or pale festival ales on tap.
M. M.
Excellent food and fast service. Proper JD Wetherspoons
P. T.
Great staff. Good food snd drink. Best value for money in town.
K. W.
Great place for socialising chatting to the locals, good coffee and plenty of refills.
B. T.
Brilliant staff. Excellent food by standards that you'd otherwise expect at a Spoons. If you're looking for a cracking pub to go to in Reading, this really is the one!
S. M.
Cheap and cheerful! If you are looking for somewhere to grab a decent breakfast or lunch and don't want to pay the earth then look no further then The Hope Tap. There is always loads of seating and they provide high chairs for babies. The clientele tends to skew older but everyone is always friendly. They now offer unlimited refills on coffees which is great value for money!
a. d.
Okay for reasonable priced drinks. Different age groups. Nice venue to meet up before clubbing for the young ones. Older ones just blend in. Stairs too high for the elderly or those desperate for a wee but overall nice pub with nice vibes
S. O. R.
Good Bar full of crafted beers Ales bottled and by the Pint glass. Good food served here big menu selection. Inside and outside seating. Big bar like Monks Retreat same Brewery. Cheap beers most days there
D. R.
Meal was OK, but had to move tables, as the stench from the disable toilet( which most people have keys for) was unbearable ,everytime the door opened .
L. G.
Nice atmosphere shame about smell from disabled friendly toilet ♿🚽🤮manager finally checked it after 2hours from being told🤬few staff members was great though.
L. S.
It's a 'Spoons, so you know what to expect! They layout inside is much larger than it looks from the outside, and there is a beer garden/smoking area accessible through the back of the pub. Food is served for breakfast, lunch and dinner, and is cheap and affordable. They serve beer and ales, wine and spirits, cocktails and soft drinks. Patrons are anywhere between 18 and 80, and children are allowed when accompanied by an adult.
There is step free access, WiFi, and the pub uses the 'Order and Pay' app, which allows you to order and pay for food and drink from your table, without the need to queue at the bar. The pub does get busy in the evening, so this is definitely worth downloading.
There's not a lot of natural light, so it can be a bit gloomy inside.
D. R.
Cheap drinks and food is really cheap for it's quality
H. S.
Good solid spoons. Does what it says on the tin
J. O.
Only stopped for a coffee but this Wetherspoon was elegant and clean and appeared well looked after. Toilets were spotless although you have to climb a long flight of stairs to get to them. There is disabled accessible loo downstairs though. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Will visit again when I revisit Reading.
S. U.
Always great when you're skint lol
A. T.
Loved it, very affordable and tasty. The only inconveniences were no lemonade (non-fizzy lemon drinks) available and smoking area on the terrace being too close to the non-smoking.
A. A.
Had a breakfast in here I'm sorry to say we won't be going back enough said
L. M.
It's a classic Wetherspoons so is cheap and a classic English pub style. It's dark, a bit dingy and the tables are probably a little sticky, staff were friendly and there are lots of tables so even at busy times you can often find somewhere to sit.
J. O.
Staff is nice and mobile app is great as you can order without even leaving your table. Food is not top quality but is cheap. A variety of beers from all over the world available without paying ridiculous prices.
L. T.
Decent food, decent drinks, bit of a long wait but I can't blame them given the world situation
M. H.
Food is exactly as you would expect from a witherspoons, reasonably priced but not the best quality. Can't complain about the service the team were fast and friendly, unfortunately something about the real ale just doesn't taste right, would happily stop here for a quick meal but not for a drinking session.
D. W.
Small fish n chips. Unfortunately fish was about the size of a fish finger. Had this before and fish was much larger.
N. K.
Standard Wetherspoon pub with good quality food and drinks. It is quite large for a city centre pub with lots of seating. Is child-friendly with lots of high chairs.
K. G.
Lovely staff. Manager very helpful when restaurant was very busy . Food was great . And had a great time
M. T.
Pleasant service and very fast service for food and drinks! Always a good meal! Great prices too! Looking forward to going back soon!
P. R.
Evening meal lamb shank excellent with pint of real ale. Excellent value. Pub very popular/ busy. Friendly staff quick service. Recommended.
T. H.
Always not disappointed for breakfast
A. W.
Had an enjoyable evening with a friend at this Wetherspoons pub in reading town centre.
It's a Wetherspoons so it's reasonably priced with a wide selection of beers including craft ales and cocktails etc.
Food is also available but we didn't eat this time (I have at other 'spoons in the past and have been satisfied at both price and quality).
The bar is large with plenty of staff on a Saturday night so no long queues.
There is an outside area divided into Smoking and non smoking areas, although I am not sure how a sign stops the smoke moving from one end to the other (lol!l but at least they are trying so that's goòd.
In.general this is a fairly typical Wetherspoons (no music playing but there are a few TVs dotted about) but which is well run
A. G.
Good place to have a beer. The quality of the food is not so high but acceptable. Really full of people on the weekdays with offers (especially on Tuesday). Good beers and spirits selection
m. w.
Usual Wetherspoons, but staff are so rude.
C. M.
Very big and spacious pub, we sat in the garden for a quick drink and then left.
E. T.
Needs a facelift, however, spoons is always great for cheap drinks and food. Doesn't disappoint
R. G.
Low standard for a whetherspoons. Has a beer garden but it's small and not particularly nice. Like all spoons pubs they do have a good range of beers and the food isn't bad. My advice is go to the back of beyond instead
J. K.
It's lovely pub within 10mins walk from Reading Station. It was my second visit this week. Service was quick and food came out shortly. Tuesday is steak night and it's really busy!
r. Q.
super busy on a saturday night! the staff a really slow. I recommend using the app to order, as the barmaid took about 5 minutes just to put ice in a glass and got confused when we ordered 2 drinks at a time.
C. C.
A spoons is a spoons no matter where you go. Good grub. Good people. Good times. Would recommend the Wetherspoons app - order to your table both food and drink!
P.
come at me if u think u can beet me in arm restle, hit me up
D. W.
Everyone's go to pub in Reading, close to everything, great for pre drinks and a great atmosphere, who could ask for anything more?
Food and drinks come quickly to the table if ordered through the app and staff at the bar work very quickly even when jam packed on a Friday or Saturday night.
V. G.
Just like most weatherspoons good food, cheap drinks and a good atmosphere
R. L.
Busy place but generally pleasant place, excellent good value food, but lost my table when I went for a refill of my pint. The customer, who was sat at my table, was rather rude to me when I explained that I had only gone to refill my pint. She was not even prepared to share the table. This was down to this person's poor manners rather than the establishment.
S. C.
Nice lil place to pre drink good price too before getting to the club ..
T. L.
This Weatherspoon is a real drinking pub. Sometimes the clientele can be real elbow benders. That said superb selection of well priced, well kept, well presented drinks, also the food is pretty good- cheap n cheerful!
M. w.
Cheep and cheerful, it's a weatherspoons they are all the same.
A.
It's a nice pub.
But I had better and more food for the same.money in pubs so only four stars for this one.
Don't get me wrong the food isn't bad at all, just also not really good.
D. D.
A friendly town centre pub. Great for families, groups, or just on your own. There's a small courtyard garden at the back. Good range of ales at amazing prices :-)
V. T.
Love this place -breakfast with unlimited coffee refills, later in the day with cheap but good beer. The map of South America at the entrance is a sick joke -Peru a quarter the size of Brazil? WTF?
A. S.
Needs a re-fit, not the look and feel the town and the brand should be aiming for.
P. D.
Reading, Berkshires answer to Croydon! At least in this pub it's honest and raw. I like it, it seems like a safer sanctuary than the street outside. Good value and comfortable... Don't expect to much, but I'm not complaining. It's a Wetherspoons and it does the job. Far better it be there than not!
J.
Great Pub, the one pub in Reading that will always be the best for pre-drinks - good prices on the beer, and they have a nice amount of Ales on tap (changes weekly).
The food is not as good quality as the rest of the experience, but if your like me and your just after a Pub-lunch, then their burgers are good and they come with a free pint!
Spacious Pub with a TV for Sports and a medium-sized smoking area. Just watch out for the steps up to the toilets once you've had a couple, haha!
R. P.
Friendly place with lovely food and drinks at extremely low prices. Brilliant staff, working their socks off. Great pub to spend a few hours in.
s. g.
Great Drinks, great people although I understand drinks services was busy x
O. K. (.
Nice and friendly staff, but don't order mixed grill! The meat is impossible to chew. Also, the naan bread which came with my husband's curry was very dry and hard.
J. A.
Food was very nice apart from a rare steak came out well done but staff was nice and helpful and we got a new steak that was perfect would come back
J. R. W.
Standard pub chain pub, the food and drinks (alcoholic not soft) are cheep but the place its self is worn and tiered looking and very under staffed. If i was passing and hungry I'd go in but i wouldn't make going there an outing.
S. J.
My favorite pub for a drink before going to a club or also to spend the whole evening their. Nice security and staff. And amazingly cheap, but good drinks. You order, they mix!
M. T.
Pretty good service and running the whether spoons app seamlessly despite it being very busy. Great selection of beers for cheap. Shame about the quality of some of the clientele, but it's a wetherspoons, not the ritz!
s. S.
Love the atmosphere here. A little chaotic when it's very busy but I'm sure it will improve. Nice staff, overall a great experience.
J. B.
Lovely staff always friendly unlike back of beyond pub in kings street. Manager was very helpful as I left my designer umbrella and he kept it safe for me to collect on my next visit.
A. P. w. H.
Under staffed run out of some beers cider ,closed doors for 30 minutes because of staff problems.
L. S.
Very busy. Needs a refurb.
R. W.
Good English pub . Large seating area inside , large menu, the breakfast here is very good . Large selection of beers ales ciders wines and good prices . Location great and there's a seating area outside .
O. B.
A nice place where you can sit, chat, drink one of many types of beer and have a bite to eat. What's important to me - there are many vegetarian options (even vegan) and non-alcoholic beer.
G. O.
Very very nice...
I eat all my Berger 😄😄😄😍😍😦
L. J. L.
Good pub for a drink and something to eat too at a very reasonable price!
J. F.
The manageress at the Hope Tap is a delightful person. She is efficient without being bullish. Her care to attention is exemplary and the way she keeps the plants and garden ....exceptional, John
J. O.
Good place for lunch and a drink. Excellent value and speedy service means you don't use up too much of your lunch hour.
E. T.
It's a Wetherspoons. It's in the center of town. The bar is ALWAYS packed 3 deep on busy times and rarely enough staff to cover but i think this is mostly due to how short the bar is.
Beers and ciders are in abundance with a good selection that rapidly dwindles as the evening goes on. Not a bad smoking area either, when you can find a place to sit. Place is often bustling of an evening. Food is okay but not great, usual wetherspoons faire but you get what you pay for.
Often not as cheap as the Wetherspoon's down the road the "Monk's Retreat" but there seems to be a conspiracy to shove all the price up (again) recently.
p. c.
IPA for 0.98 pence per pint 😋

Great value drinks & quick and friendly service if you order via the app but the burger I had (classic beef burger) was the worst burger I have ever had. Really oily, bland & frankly, absolutely disgusting.
S. D.
Good value for money and a wide selection of cheap food and drink.
A. W.
Had the ultimate burger and a beer for lunch, with a friend. Good service. Food was great. Beer tasted a little watered down.
S. B.
Typical Wetherspoons and I mean that in a good way as in always consistant. The ribs and chips were good and csme quick. the staff were helpful and friendly and two types types of real cider Thatchers and Westons on draught!!!
M. W. T. X.
Are you a student? Are you lazy? Do you like good acohol and food? Order on your app and have a great pre night out. The chips (fries) will blow your mind tasting a lil like onions rings batter which is just beautiful.
S. R.
Love the food, prices, and attentive staff. They are doing a wonderful job of maintaining social guidelines
A. I.
Very busy, not many places to sit. Table service wasnt the best, used the app to order but still given wrong products. Good food for your money.

J. J.
It's a wetherspoons, not much more to say, prices are great, food is great, staff are fine. Remember your ID as they can be pretty keen on that.
D. A.
Really good food at reasonable prices, good drinks especially the unlimited tea and coffee. Only thing is you have to walk a bit for the toilets (not good if you have a small bladder)
J. W.
Decent food, friendly staff, and a large selection of drinks. One of the best places to go if you just want to relax with some mates for a while.
M. G.
It's a nice pub and service is good . There's lots to choose from on the menu from breakfast to dinners and pudding, the price is pretty good as well . The only thing is it gets very busy late morning so can sometimes be hard to find a table
A. L.
Great value food & drink; good choice of food on menu. Hard to find a table though at lunchtime though... several solitary drinkers occupying a table each...
C. E. -. G.
It's a Weatherspoons. If you ever been in one of these - anywhere - you already know what the drink, food, decor and ambience are. No pretentions, cheap food and booze for everyone
W. W.
I love it since I live in Reading. Lots of siting places, easy to buy/order something. No need to stand long time in a queue. This place has its own magic.
H. C. (.

When you have a table for 15 people all having meals, i wasn't expecting to be looked at like i was crazy to ask for them to hold onto the birthday cake that i had brought in until the end of our meals. The manager on this day was extremely rude and reluctant to so.
B. J.
Good beer selection and quality. No problems finding a table. At bit noisy further into the pub.
M. H.

Low standard for a whetherspoons. Has a beer garden but it's small and not particularly nice. Like all spoons pubs they do have a good range of beers and the food isn't bad. My advice is go to the back of beyond instead
