Absolutely fantastic pub, what they have done in the beer garden is out of this world. I've only been in the area for 1 week & in that time with a few visits it already feels like my local. All the staff are friendly and hardworking. I love it. Shame the rating only goes up to 5 as it deserves a lot more than that.

What an amazing pub. The pool area is unbelievable, I felt like I was abroad. The manager was amazing, really looked after us and gave us a show round and even recommended us drinks. We had a strawberry daiquiri and it was the best one I have had! The service was incredible and the food was delicious! Cannot wait to visit again

What a turn around the new owners have done for this place. So friendly and helpful and a nice spot for a cold beer on a hot day by the river. It used to be a pub I walked past. Now I can't walk past without going in!

The staff are amazing, no faff no hassle they’re very friendly and welcoming. The restrictions on the sound of our DJ set were so minimal it was amazing. Great vibes and always asking if we need drinks so amazing. Very much recommend having events here!

My brother and I were cycling the towpath of the canal looking for lunch and a pint and there was the jolly anglers,we sat down outside in the sun, the landlord came out and we ordered pizzas with our beers,they were freshly cooked and delicious and the bill was much less than we were expecting. I will definitely be calling in again

Staff were friendly but it's just about untidy in there ,the atmosphere was full but I'm sure they are doing some work on it but the food was okay but the fish batter around it was hard which was disappointing but steak was good

Called in for a pint. Good beer. Really friendly welcome from the landlord and landlady. Really nice atmosphere. Not really anywhere to park a car but ideal for a bike or walk visit as you can lock your bike to the railings. Lots of people sat outside by the canal.

The landlord was incredibly friendly, as we're all the customers. It has a relaxed and homely feel. Welcoming to dogs. A great place for a roast and to hang out when the family are in town. Asked for extra Yorkshires and they were happy to oblige.

A small and very run down pub by the Kennet Canal. There is a limited choice of beer and lager. You can order pub food like burger and chips and similar that surprisingly is very good value and tasty indeed. The landlord and landlady are present and are very friendly couple. The decor of the interior is not very pleasant to look at. There are a few bar chairs and tables outside by the canal where you can drink or order bar food you eat.

Absolutely fantastic atmosphere, owners are great and a good community vibe. Food is also amazing, with a great selection of beers and spirits. Plenty of entertainment throughout the week, from live music to dj sets. Hour hour(s) on wednesdays is also a massive bonus. Would highly recommend a visit!

Visit - Just before this 2nd lockdown. Welcome - Very warm and friendly host and hostess. It was our 3rd visit in as many weeks. Staff very friendly, too. Bar - Ordered white wine for me. Really lovely, nice and smooth. Price on par with all other bars in Reading. Friend had Shandy and said it was nice. Food - On first visit, I ordered Sea Bass. It was supposed to come with vegetables, but all I got was one miniscule broccoli floret, one tiny round carrot and nothing else. Totally disappointed. The fish, however, was lovely. - On second visit had Veggie burger. Never again. - On third visit had Sea Bass again. Once again got One Miniscule broccoli floret, One miniscule carrot round and that's it. So the photo on Jolly Anglers site is very misleading. Luckily, due to previous experience, I had also orderd Greek Salad which was delicious; Homemade chips which weren't! They were readymade frozen chips so disappointed. The fish, once again, was cooked to perfection. The kitchen needs to deliver what it shows as I love fish and don't like being let down. The Jolly Anglers is a lovely pub. Everyone is very friendly so will visit again, but may be just order a Jacket potato even though not keen on it. I'd much rather have the fish!

Came upon this place on a warm sunny autumn day strolling down the river that leads from Reading to Bristol to the sound of soft piano playing from inside the pub (played by customer). The atmosphere is so quiet outside, you can sit down and watch the river flow slowly and crowd with ducks, geese and swans at times. Prices were cheap (£3 for a pint) and I can still taste the feel of the fresh beer on a lovely day after a long walk. Will come again and would recommend without hesitation - just for the quiet, tranquil atmosphere

A local pub in the best sense. Good atmosphere with some colourful local characters. Sits right next to the canal so is a nice setting. Also there's a beer garden at the back which is great in warmer weather.

Slightly odd little place - I think they had just opened as there was a fresh paint smell and a sense they haven't quite sorted themselves out yet... That said, it's a nice spot on the river and they had slimline tonic. Big, loud sports screens in both sides which was a shame.

We had a really enjoyable evening in this place . It is located in a picturesque location on the bank of a river with a walkway that travels to the centre of town . The staff are friendly and helpful and there is a good selection of beers ales wines and spirits , all at a fair price.

DOG PUB! the owner have a Labrador and a JR. super cute. I took shelter from the rain with my dog, and we spend about 2h in here. good price on beer and the staff really relaxed and friendly.
