Reviews of The Lyndhurst
D. G.
I have been to the Lyndhurst many times, and would 100% recommend it. The food is brilliant and completely unexpected from a roadside traditional looking pub. I've taken friends, family and my partner. The staff are lovely and even though I now live over half an hour away, I try to come back. Burger and curry nights are lovely, and wonderful value. We went here for Christmas dinner and it was great, best roast in reading!
L. K.
Came to Lyndhurst 3weeks ago for Sunday Roast and we had an amazing time there. The staff was so attentive and the food gave us all good coma ~ wonderful generous portions and amazing flavor for a reasonable price. Be sure to call in and make a booking because they do get booked out pretty quickly for the Sunday Roast.
K. Q.
Food is outstanding. Fresh, well presented, full of flavour and utterly delicious. Great service from the staff and such a lovely, warm atmosphere. Brilliant pub!
R. B.
Been meaning to visit for ages - gutted we waited so long!! Went in on Sunday for the roast, we tried them all between our group and they were all brilliant! Great value and so delicious - comes with cauliflower cheese as standard which is always a must in my books. Staff were lovely and super dog friendly!
V. K.
The customer service was really good. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and were also very quick in helping out even though it was very busy.
We managed just about to get a table, it was very busy and after having the Sunday Roast I can definitely see why. The atmosphere was very nice and warm.
The Sunday Roast was great, and had a nice variety of flavours on the plate. From the cauliflower cheese to the stuffing and the deliciously crispy potatoes, there was a variety on the plate and I liked all of it. The chicken itself was not dry at all, and full of flavour. The Yorkshire pudding was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside.
The starters were very nice as well. The fish cakes here were very good and had a nice creamy texture. The crispy squid was nice as well, not stand out or anything, but it still had good flavours.

Omg! What amazing food! What a find! Service was a little bit slow, but very friendly team made up for that. Check out the Lyndhurst special burger with chilli cheese chips in my picture. This was worth starving myself for all day.
We listened to the various musicians there this evening including a Brazilian band. How exotic is that! 😲
S. S.
Amazing fish and chips when the chips are so crispy they melt in the mouth. The beer batter is so light and crunchy I can't wait to have it again! On Thursdays they have a curry night which is a really good deal with a pint included. There are three different curries on the menu and the staff will tell you about them if you ask. Vegetarian curry, beef curry and chicken is quite usual. Overall a great local pub just on the outside of the town centre. We'll worth a visit!
R. W.
First visit to The Lyndhurst and we both agree that it was really good. Thursday night is curry night choose from three curries and a pint for just £9.99 We chose the lamb rogan and the chicken cafreal. Both were well presented and packed with flavour. Deserts are extra but a real treat. We had the strawberry pavlova and the pistachio & rose water semolina cake. Service was excellent and the staff were attentive but not pushy. Definitely recommend that you visit. Check out their twitter page for regular updates @theLyndie

Such a great asset in the neighborhood. Lots of energy, laughter, and friends meeting up. Food and gin selection is 5 plus stars for a local pub. Service was welcoming and friendly. Good comfort food freshly prepared. Try the soup of the day on a cold day. I had the butternut squash--was amazing.
L. M.
I don’t usually eat Sunday roast out but this is worth it. Beef was delicious and well cooked, serving sizes were generous, shared a starter and dessert with partner and was left very satisfied. Cozy classic pub interior, good selection of beers. Slightly awkward positioning with not much parking but worth a little trek. On the slightly more expensive side however i believe it’s justified for the quality
C. C.
Fish and chips delicious.
Had a lovely evening with family.
Good atmosphere with a good mix of generations.
When arrived people playing board games. The Lyndhurst has a small range of games to choose from.
D. W.
Just popped in for a quick drink before catching the train.
Greeted with a warm welcome.
I had an excellent pint of Butcombe Original, served just the way it is meant to be.
Well worth the 10min or so walk from the station/town centre, didn't have time to try out the food but the lunchtime menu had some interesting fayre.
Sunny outside seating in front.
R.
Great Sunday lunch, atmosphere and friendly team - will be back soon. Refreshing to see a veggie roast that isn't half the size of the meat ones for once!
J. S.
Really good atmosphere and the staff are always attentive. The food is consistently amazing, for me the stand out is the Korean wings and my wife really enjoyed e chicken roast when we last went in a couple weeks ago. Thank you to the team and see you soon!
D. M.
Amazing food and great find. Only wished this pub was beside our house. Food was delicous, service and staff 5 star and punters all so friendly.
S. C.
Nice ambiance. Great food. Humble staff. This is the place where you get th best Roast at most affordable price. The hospitality of the place if beyond expectation

We booked The Lyndhurst for a large family meal celebration and I cannot over emphasise what a wonderful time we all had. The manager and staff were so welcoming, attentive and friendly it made for such a lovely atmosphere. We were able to just relax and enjoy the evening knowing we were being well looked after. We had a range of diets in our party, and we were all well catered for- the vegan options in particular were impressive, and far exceeded our expectations. Everyone commented how delicious the food was- it was all high quality & fresh ingredients. Whether you are looking for a quick drink, or a three course meal, I can highly recommend The Lyndhurst- you will not be disappointed!!
M. B.
We’ve eaten at the Lyndie many times and have always enjoyed the food and service. The Korean
Chicken wings are addictive. It’s great having the regular menu and the daily’s board too.
Great place.
A. V.
Original pub where you can eat a warm dish or take a coffee or a beer. The always quiet village of Reading makes this place a good choice if you want to spend a good time.
М. В.
I'm now a regular at Lyndhurst. And how can you not be? The place is small and cosy, creating a wonderful atmosphere. The staff is friendly and welcoming. But the food, oh the food... Fish and chips is yummy, lamb tacos are mind-blowing, and the desserts make your tummy nice and happy! Highly recommended!;
S. L.
Amazing! We love this pub. It's a great venue for drinks and food, every meal I have had here has been delicious and can highly recommend the Sunday roasts. We have recently chosen the Lyndhurst for a large family meal and it was such a lovely relaxed atmosphere with perfectly timed food. Thank you to Dishon and team for looking after us. We hope to visit again soon.
J. K.
Fabulous takeaway service. Sticky and sweet chicken wings, spicy, zingy pulled pork tacos with (house-made) tacos and a cracking bacon cheeseburger. All thoughfully packaged in insulated boxes so it was all still piping hot when we got home. Brilliant. Highly recommended.
R. B.
Great pub. Relaxed friendly atmosphere with excellent food and service. A great Sunday roast was had by all. Thanks 😊
N. M.
This s place is simply amazing. My wife and me regularly come to this restaurant and pub and truly enjoy relaxing atmosphere and superb food. The staff is so friendly and helpful just fantastic. And the food is prepared to perfection. This is the best restaurant and pub in Reading by long shot
A. G.
Excellent traditional (and not so traditional) food, served by dedicated staff, great selection of craft beers and wines, good atmosphere.
G. R.
Embarrassing confession - we've lived very close by for years, and only recently have we started coming to the Lyndhurst regularly. The food is exceptional (try the spicy lamb tacos, you won't regret it), the staff are friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. We'll be back as often as our wallets allow!
P. N.
The Lyndhuurst is my favourite pub in all Reading. The owner is always nice and attentive and the pub has a good atmosphere. They have a good variety of beers and the food is simply the best value price/quality I have tried in Reading. I have tried here different plates. From burgers (beef burger and Chicken Katsu burguers are both delicious, mouth watering...). There are a bit of Mexican food, like Tacos or Nachos with guacamole and shredded beef (I was devoted to these nachos...) The Sunday roast is HOMEMADE and DELICIOUS, you won't regret it. Also have some special food as a Roast Duck or Roast Pork Belly that my friends tried and said, "the best cooked, plating and tasting meat in Reading" Why I tell you all of this? Because I like to eat well at a competitive price with a cordial treatment in a good environment. And also because they are a local business and I like to support it.
S. D.
Went there last Sat as was told about live music. Pub is not that big & music was way too loud as it was really difficult to have a conversation. Music was ok just didn't need to be amplified.
K. M.
Went for late lunch on a Sunday. The food is fantastic and great service too!
S. R.
Liked it.calm place.. tasty food worth the money spent.Good service. Would visit again.
A. C.
We decided last minute to go our for a Sunday lunch . We wanted to stay local so luckily the Lyndhurst managed to squeeze us in. There was a good selection of roasts and another menu running as well. We opted for the roasts and were glad we did . The portions were very generous . So much so neither of us cleared the plate. The vegetables were cooked to perfection and the meat delicious. Homemade yorkies to finish. The staff were very friendly, making sure we were happy with everything. All at a very reasonable price. We will definitely be going back
N. D.
Just had dinner here tonight, service was amazing, food was fantastic, we’ll definitely be back!
W. B.
Cosy little pub on the edge of the town centre & a short walk from the Reading College & Royal Berkshire Hospital.
Nice food & a little area to the side for outdoor dining.
I. A.
Excellent food. Exceptional even.
Great range, several vegan and vegetarian options.
Excellent selection of drinks and superb staff.
C. W.
Really good food, there menu is not extensive but what they do offer is very well prepared. They also offer a good range of beers on tap.
M. V.
We went here for a Sunday Roast. It was good quality for £20 with a starter or dessert. The bread with the starter was a bit dry. Presentation was great, but the food left more to be desired.
D. R. K.
It's nice environment they built inside. We used to get Indian Authentic as well. Rice and Chicken was very good.
A. J.
Mostly pub food but really well done and with a few exceptional dishes. We have eaten there at least 10 times and it has never been less than excellent. And their deserts are truly spectacular. Not the usual shop bought stuff but innovative deserts showing great creativity and beautifully presented.
D. Y.
Best Sunday Roast in Reading! Lovely staff, great atmosphere.
E. H.
Lovely pub and food. Stunning Sunday roast. It's huge. Well worth a visit.
M. Z.
Lovely pup and friendly service. Good menu choices for Sunday roast.

The Lyndhurst is an absolute gem: a totally unpretentious, friendly pub with fantastic, creative food.
P. C.
Great food and chilled atmosphere, will be back soon.
C. G. P.
Great environment and great good! Big portions as well. Staff very friendly:)
C. H.
Love the Lyndhurst. I've been drinking at the Lyndie (like many east Reading people) on and off for years, but in the last two years Dishon and the team have really transformed the menu and service, and made it a true destination neighbourhood pub. They have an amazing menu, the food is always freshly prepared, and even on a quiet midweek lunch there is something tasty to choose (e.g. the katsu chicken burger). Price is mid range, and that is a steal considering the quality of the menu. Good selection of beers, wines and spirits. The pub school hosts live music during the Village Festival, and has a small outside seating area. Highly recommended.
N. W.
Absolutely fantastic food all cooked fresh to order. Staff are very friendly and professional. Prices are reasonable but quality and service is always top notch
N. M.
I always loved this pub and i still do. Clean, great food, great desert, good beers, friendly people. Very friendly to solo customers and they let you take your time, they do not rush you to order or to leave when finished. l definitely recommend it.
J. P.
I am very lucky to have this as my local pub. We eat here regularly and have never had a bad meal. The chefs have created a range of fantastic dishes using delicious, locally-sourced ingredients, with rotating specials and craft ales. Would highly recommend trying anything on the menu. The roast dinner in particular is a highlight. Go there now!
R. F.
We ordered the wings, cheesy chilli chips and chicken tacos to takeaway. All were fantastic, fresh and flavourful. The wings in particulsr are a favourite. Best takeaway in reading and big portions. Highly recommended. Only request would be to put the pulled pork tacos on the takeaway menu!
A. H.
Highly recommend their current takeaway offering! I particularly enjoy the chickpea nachos, I didn't know what to expect from them but they were one of the best things I've had in ages. The food seems really well thought through and the quality is great. The portion size is generous. Looking forward to being able to visit again but in the meantime it's nice to be able to support a local foodie restaurant.
L. K.
A lesson not to judge a book by its cover! Location is a bit rough (main road and central Reading) but the chef is excellent serving fabulous food and there is great, non intrusive but pleasant and efficient service. Really surprised as I wouldn't expect much from this area. Menu is excellent and all the food was great. Reasonable prices too. I will be back!
J. M.
Discovered this via EdibleReading’s blog. Fantastic takeaway that went beyond expectations. Very generous portions, excellent value for money and above all, seriously tasty. We had delicious chilli beef nachos, crispy katsu burger (the size of my head!) and very flavoursome chicken tinga tacos. We’ll be ordering again...
S. T.
I had drinks here a couple times when I needed some WiFi access. Covid-19 aware space with staff taking your order at the table, they wear facemasks, there are dividers between tables and there's a one-way entry & exit system with ventilation from the entrance. They also have 2 outdoor tables. Friendly service, yet to try their seafood which has been recommended to me by others. They say the prawns are good.
T. B.
Amazing “local” friendly Pub. One that really knows how to offer great service, high quality food and true value for money.... please support this non-run of the mill pub! Use it or lose... shout out to Dishon and the bar staff. Love Tom and Gaby!
e.
Great chilly cheese fries! They have IPA Lagunitas. Great staff. Next time, Sunday roast
D. K.
Have been for a Sunday roast twice and the food was excellent on both occasions, the wine list was great as well. I also like the service, it’s relaxed and informal yet still polite and efficient. The pub has a nice atmosphere when full. My only small criticism is that when we sat by the windows on a cold day it was a bit chilly. Will deffo go again.
M.
Great food, service was a bit slow.
E. A.
A lovely little pub with the best pub food in all of England. It’s definitely elevated food with a constantly changing, delicious seasonal menu. It’s some of the best food I’ve had in the UK. It’s a great atmosphere for a working lunch, dinner with friends, date night, or drinks on the weekend.
During COVID, their takeaway process feels safe, clean, and organised. And the food is just as wonderful.
The Lyndhurst is a hidden gem of Reading.
S. S.
Fabulous food, well priced, great selection of beers... Friendly and welcoming bar staff.. nice ambience...my steak was cooked to perfection and was a superb cut of meat, not chewy.. very happy and will be back!
J. F.
Nice food and very friendly staff. My very first lunch in a UK restaurant, really impressive.
M. B.
Our third visit in the last few weeks. Sometimes really busy as it's a popular local pub, so needs booking during its busier times, but this evening midweek there were tables free for those eating or chatting over a pint.
The meals are always very good, bistro style and usually seasoned well (taste before reaching for the condiment box). Most dishes contain potato in one form or another, but ask staff if they recommend a side dish, especially if you're planning to skip a starter or dessert.
It's kind of a unicorn in the Reading town centre (just): good for food, good for drinking, and a good place in general. We'll keep coming back without a doubt.
M. S. Z.
I was extremely surprised by the good quality of the food and the willingness demonstrated by the chef to prepare good and tasty food
n. f.
Great food and good service!
T. H.
Booked a table at the last minute. Very friendly but not over attentive service both at the bar and at our table.
I had salt and pepper squid and my partner had the ham hock terrine - both excellent .
For a main course I had the rabbit saddle and my partner had the pork and they were delicious and there was plenty of them.
Finished with a crumble split between using which was also tasty.
A very pleasant evening in a lovely atmosphere.
Thanks.
S. H.
I met three friends there today and it was the first time for all of us. We saw some great reviews online so thought we would have a look. We weren't disappointed. Excellent service from friendly and personable staff, cracking surroundings and two of us couldn't stop singing along to brilliant background music. The highlight was the Sunday roast with gorgeous, tender beef and generous portions. The vegetarian option looked pretty enticing too. I was so impressed, I'm thinking this maybe become a regular Sunday fixture!
J. P.
Really nice pint of Good old Boy. Food looks interesting too.

Only had a couple of ales but they were in good condition and delicious.

As ever, the food was lovely. The Lyndhurst continues to be a valuable local pub that serves great food. The team at the pub have become an important part of the community.
T. R.
Sure, you could get any other takeout... or you could get Lyndie. And like, normally there's no reason not to get Lyndie. It's a local business, it's got a smashing menu, it's got generous portion sizes.
Over lockdown my fianceé and I wanted to try some different food from different places and the Lyndie has made that very very hard. Why don't we just get Lyndie?
L. N.
Excellent food and service, really unusual ‘pub’ menu and unique for Reading. Staff are super welcoming but not overbearing. Felt very ‘COVID safe’ and wonderful attention to detail.
K. A. B.
Order takeaway from here for special occasions. Staff are friendly and foods great! …

Nice little corner pub that has outdoor seating, nice wooden interior and simple rustic pub food!
P. G.
This pub is pretty close to my place of work (as well as several other offices in the surrounding area) so is an ideal place to go for lunch.
There is a very decent range of ales here, bottled and draft, as well as the usual lager suspects. They serve a varied lunchtime menu and the food is of very good quality.
The service is professional and quick which means that's it's very easy to pop out of the office, get a beer and a light lunch, and then pop back in time for your meetings.
N. W.
The food looked good. The beef looked excellent! But my roast chicken was dry, and they forgot the roasties on a friend's plate. But the customer service was excellent, and the dessert was awesome!
T. L.
Update for recent changes:
The food here has improved noticably and is very good. Beers are rotated more often. Also there is some great new staff. Kitchen is open til 10 every day. Improvements made this perhaps my favorite Reading pub especially to eat.
Cozy locally operated pub, with solid food, three ales and a handful of lagers and ciders. The chicken sandwich is especially recommended.
K. A.
Fab pub with top notch grub. Very well segregated tables with clear plastic screens.
Food could easily complete with Bel or LSB but at much lower price.
P. E.
Popped in for a Sunday roast at 2pm. The roast beef was perfectly cooked, unfortunately this is where the positives end.
The chicken had a good flavour, but was overcooked, Yorkshire puddings were burnt, all potatoes has cold centres (6 potatoes between us and only one was crispy), each plate had one half of a carrot, two pieces of tenderstem broccoli and a handful of beans.
Service was mediocre, with none of the staff asking if we were enjoying our food.
Beef £16.50
Chicken £14.50
Such a shame the food was a letdown as the place is lovely inside.
It is highly unlikely that we will return.
J. D.
Gorgeous food and friendly service. This pub restaurant has a cozy atmosphere. I'm never disappointed when I go.
D. R.
Doesn't look much from the outside, but tonight I've had a fantastic meal here, perfectly cooked medium rare ribeye and tasted fantastic, to top that off all three real ales are superb and so well kept. I could live here!
A. M. B.
The service a bit slow, but worth the wait. I enjoyed everything I ordered. Great place, good atmosphere and excellent staff.
A. E.
Good beer, good food. The landlords are really friendly. The pub has needed to implement covid19 distancing requirements and these are done well. Give it a try :-)
b. d.
Since the new management the lyndhurst has a busy friendly atmosphere. There was only 1 vegan option on the menu but it was really tasty. Really good beer and great prices!
F. G.
Truly excellent food and table service.
L. A.
Delicious, enticing, homemade food. Though the small number of staff make for long wait times for ordering and being seen at your table (and I went on a Saturday night). Staff were friendly, and long wait times are not an issue when a small number of people are in the restaurant.
B. F.
Nice wooden atmosphere in this "just few meters outside town" pub. Pub? Well, at the look of the plates ordered, I felt in a restaurant: details, imaginative and delicious ... That's Chris, the boss, in the kitchen!
Add the friendliness yet professional service from the staff...
Actually, it looks like the all pub runs without pretension, but they always make sure that nothing is missing.
I gave 4 stars out of 5, because nothing is perfect, but if I had 100 stars, I would have given 99.
K. A.
Really fab food in a laid back setting. Staff are super friendly and helpful - I got lots of advice about which wine to choose. Worth a visit for Sunday lunch 😍
K. M.
It was okay. Bit disappointed that the menu was only a reduced version due to it being Sunday (or that's how I understood it when explained to us despite the website saying it was alongside the normal menu), because I would have loved some of the side dishes on the normal menu... Definitely lost a bit of cash off us there! Bresaola with quail egg which was extremely tasty, but you only get one quail egg which didn't balance the dish right and compromised the flavour. Mum in law and I had beef for the main and the wife had corn fed chicken. Both came with a couple of vegetables, roast potatoes and Yorkshire pudding. The roast potatoes weren't roasted enough, you could taste the boil. The Yorkshire pudding on both plates was burnt. The meat was good but stringy in some areas. A couple of drinks each. You could've knocked me down with a feather when we got the bill! I hope this was just a case of a sloppy attempt at Sunday nosh and the normal menu is better. Sadly, some friends had previously asked for our thoughts afterwards and we couldn't see them sink the best part of 90 quid here. Feedback to the kitchen would be focus on the wholesome elements of a Sunday roast and forget about 'charring' stuff to make it look the business. Burnt is burnt.
R. C. S.
Great food in this lovely traditional British pub!

My first visit to The Lyndhurst Sunday 26th March 2017. I had heard well of it but my experience exceeded all expectations. The menus are varied and innovative. The food was delicious. I chose belly of pork followed by creme brulee. Service was excellent. Atmosphere very friendly. Indoors is light and comfortable and there are tables outside. Kris is a most accomplished chef! I look forward to another visit.
P.
Good beer, and the wine was reasonably priced, but the food portions were less than generous. I had the vegetarian option on the Christmas menu, and when the main course arrived, I thought "where's the rest of it"? Had to have the cheese board as well, as I was still hungry.

Fantastic choice of beer - superb quality food of a Michelin style serving - super friendly staff - good crowd - and more importantly a family run business. Newly renovated and a must visit in the area. Check out the food pics alone *YUM*
D. W.
Outside would benefit from a facelift, but inside offers good quality gastropub food. Clearly efficiently run, the front of house staff were super slick. Worth leaving the central town area to have a meal here. I'd happily eat here again. Note that it is open Wed to Sun afternoon.
V.
I'm glad this place is open again. They've always been great and welcoming! Friendly atmospho5 with really good food albeit 0roces are a bit high but you get what you pay for. More than just pet friendly, they love having your companions in the pub as much as you love having them joining! Me and my little family look forward to spending a lot of time here! So glad you're open again ^^
C. S.
I absolutely love the new look and the new owners. The food is amazing and I would highly recommend dining here - whether it be for a quick lunch or an evening meal. They have food to suit all. Such a calming pub.
G. B.
Great food, excellent service.
Really friendly atmosphere.
M. A.
Have recently enjoyed chef Tom's succulent crackly pork belly dish, and previously the lovely gourmet burger. Not actually described as 'gourmet' but was just the way I like it!
This is not just a place for great food, there are interesting ales on rotation and the warm welcome at the Lyndhurst makes it a homely experience. I've promised myself I will visit more often!
S. M.
A bright and warm little corner pub. On a Friday night the music was cheerful but not too loud, and the staff and publicans were friendly and having fun. Good range of ales on tap. Will be coming back here.
C. F.
Truly amazing experience thes new people really know how to cook with flare and imagination. Expertly prepaid food from an exciting menu - do your taste buds a favor and go there now - - go on what you wating for?
C. S.
Charming East Reading local pub with a surprisingly imaginative gastropub menu. The vibe is relaxed and cosy, but there's a mishmash of seating - some of which could be more comfortable. The menu is largely British classics done well, but there's a couple of twists (like the Sesame seared tuna, with really high grade fish). Make sure to try the duck scotch egg and the roast chicken.
N. A.
Amazing food full of flavours and great taste, very friendly and clean safe during covid times as it's not overly crowded
R. W. (.
Usually a decent choice of beer, but the real ale dries up quick with a big party. Great food, friendly staff. Watch out for the £6 minimum for credit cards (including contactless).
C. O.
This is one of my favorite pubs in Reading. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is cozy and relaxed, and the staff is very friendly.
S. N.
Simple but delightful menu changed every month. All well cooked and presented with flair. Never been disappointed and always almost been amazed at what a so called pub kitchen can achieve.
j. h.
Great food - always our favourite in lockdown and for takeaways. Especially the fish and chips and the nachos :)
J. S.
The New Owners Natasha and Heath have transformed the Lyndhurst Arms . The food is amazing and as we work on Queens Road at Concept Lettings it is a great place to go for lunch or have business meetings away from the office.
