I've been going to this pub for a number of years. I liked it before the re-fit, but as some else has said, it's been done up very fittingly. On my last visit earlier in the week, we were greeted with a very warm welcome from the staff and other customers alike.
We'd been to a couple of other pubs before heading to the Retreat. This was the only one that had the heating on, and it was a nice break from the cold outside. The beer selection was good and well kept too. Looking forward to my next visit.

Lovely pub. Friendly staff, clientele and (most importantly!) always a cracking selection on draught. Always pop in when passing through and would thoroughly recommend.
Also, at short notice Kevin provided takeaway cartons for the Harvey's Best Bitter which was a lovely touch. Thank you Kevin and Stephanie! 🙂

Great local boozer, not as quirky as it once was but excellent real ale with added quiet football on

Refurbished pub, not like it used to be! Went there for the Ale Trail Launch event so they have made an extra effort regarding the beer. the range and quality of the real ales was exceptional.

This pub is an institution in Reading. It's a Victorian back street pub, originally opened in 1875. In 2018 it was a CAMRA Pub of the Year finalist. This is not a food pub.

Traditional old style pub in a quiet side street. Not cheap but it is worth it to keep some of these pubs going.
