Lovely staff and outside area. We brought our little dog who liked sitting by the river. We had the sunday roast which was really nice.

Visited on a cold and wet January Friday, never been before, excellent lunch.
This delightful pub-restaurant is in a lovely riverside setting and start to finish, we had a most enjoyable lunch, four adults and two children, ages four and two.
Seated at a round table, semi-enclosed (perfect with the children) with lovely river views, we were brilliantly looked after, nothing was too much trouble and service was fast, friendly and super efficient.
Two of us had the venison ragu and the other two the steak sandwich. The children had the pasta with tomato sauce, lots of grated cheese which they wolfed down.
The food was delicious although at first sight, the steak sandwich looked a bit mean/cramped, but further inspection showed plenty of steak slices inside. Fries are excellent but caution with the broccoli, it had accompanying red chillies and was quite hot. A fresh dish was supplied at no charge, no chillies!
Total cost, including puddings and soft drinks, £128. (NB. 12.5% service is automatically added to the bill.)
This place will obviously be rammed once the weather improves, so we were really grateful we found such a gem, on on uncrowded midwinter's day. Definitely recommended :-).

If you fancy a drink, a lovely sunday roast with a beautiful view then you must visit The Swan.
Staff are very friendly and the roast was scrumptious. The prices were quite reasonable too. But the best part is most definitely the serene views of the river. Not many venues could offer you this gorgeous setting! If the british weather allows, definitely go for a table outside.
There is parking available on site, however be warned that the places are limited and if you drive a big car, it is a bit of a mission to get in and out.

Lovely setting. Food OK. Salad of feta and watermelon 🍉 very tasty however partner's burger not brilliant. Brand and a little dry but edible.
Not sure why establishments now put mandatory service charge on bill, you should tip if you feel service was good...

What a lovely spot for us to have lunch... We were lucky enough to be sat in the conservatory part of the pub and got beautiful views of the river. We watched as paddle boarders, rowers and others passed by on a beautifully sunny day.
The food was wonderful. We had the Chicken club 💛
Really friendly and attentive staff. Would highly recommend.

Great location.
We waited a while for our food but we were warned of a wait due to kitchen shortage. The best roast dinner I have ever had, burger was delicious too. Amazing service from Tobiah . We can’t wait to go again.

I don’t normally post reviews here but I want to thank the staff at the Swan for an amazing bank holiday lunch. We read some reviews which were fairly negative about this place but really glad we came here. The waiting staff were professional and service generally was very slick. Food is basic gastro pub style but to a very high home made standard. The burger was excellent and the slow cooked beef had delicious flavour. The chips were perhaps a little over cooked but still tasty. Worth visiting after a lovely walk around the area.

Such a great location on the river and luckily we visited on a lovely sunny day. Service was slightly odd in that we had a reservation but host gave the impression we would have to wait for a table. Also had to ask to order a couple of times. Drinks came quickly and good they have vegan options though the chirashi bowl was an odd deconstructed salad (get the vegan burger). We still have a lovely time and would return.

The food here is top notch, service equally as great. We had the fish pie, curry and tiger prawn linguine. All mouthwatering.
The location of this pub is perfect for the
water, scenic, boat lovers
Highly recommend.
Dog friendly too.

A lovely location and a nice welcome. Great selection of beer's and wine and service. But!! Whilst the food was good I have to say the portion size for the price wasn't that good. Also the cardinal sin in my book was committed!!!! Food served on cold plates.

I’ve been to the swan a few times before. This pub has improved massively. The quality of the food is phenomenal, flavoursome, well balanced, arrived hot and well presented. The service was attentive, fast and the waiter Tobias made our experience so welcoming.
We look forward to our next visit.

I booked a table to share a mother's day meal with my mother.Had booked the table 2 weeks ago and was told would have a seat near the window. However when we got there we were given a seat by the steps to the conservatory. Unfortunately things did not not improve. My mother who is limited on what food she can eat only wanted onion soup. However they had run out of soup. For dessert she requested vanilla ice cream , however they had run out and only had coffee flavour. The only positive was the waiter Tobias who did his best to assist and be friendly ..Overall a disappointing experience from The Swan and sadly not the best Mothersday treat for my mother

Excellent location and good food. I had the Sunday roast and the portion was huge, albeit a little salty. I felt the 12.5% surcharge was excessive and made the whole meal that little bit more expensive. I didn't realise this until I had paid, hence the four stars.
M. S. Z.
The pub is ancient and beautiful. The location is spot on. I have not appreciated too much the service: Sunday at 1740 we asked some beers and fries and they told me that the kitchen was closed. Fair enough but, after a while around 18.20 a couple that was sitting close to use received a lukewarm Sunday roast.
When I asked the waiter an explanation he said they ordered that before the kitchen closure time that was at 18.00.
But I asked some food at 17.40....
Disappointing. Not an elegant move from their side.

Great view’s of the river, waiters great. Scotch eggs were fantastic !!!
W. R.
Best place .. and good beer ! also, boats

Nice pub in a great spot. Super friendly staff with nice flow through Covid measures. Food wise it was ok but hoped for more. Burrata was ok but really needs some proper good toasted bread, not the crisp things, even though they are delicious and we asked, and were given more. The vegan sharing platter was a bit embarrassing. No one wants loads of raw spring onion.
Will definitely visit again and try some more main menu items.

Very pleasant place for a drink (the kitchen was not open when we arrived). Decent range of lagers and ales. I think this would be spectacular in summer, sitting outside, on the banks of the river.
Food for the kids was soon ordered and they really enjoyed it. Good value for money.
Service was also good.
Certainly would recommend a visit.

A wonderful pub. A worthy end to a walk through the Goring Gap. The service was outstanding.
D. H.
The Service Is Very Good, Wine List very Nice Particularly The House Champagne, But The Food is Not . Tin Crab Not Fresh The Chip Aren't worth The Effort, As For The Vegetables All Over Cooked Been Left in Hot Water to Keep Warm Menu & Ingredients Need to be Revamped .

Great outdoor seating next to the river. Friendly quick service.

Looked lovely but was not there long enough to check out the food, great table by the river but parking is a nightmare
F. G.
A lovely, old pub by the Thames. The welcome was very friendly and the food was good. Parking is a bit limited, but there is a Pay and Display carpark a short walk away.
S. M.
Hi there, overall experience was good, however the soap was a bit untasty and my burger fillet was totally burnt as per photo so I had to request for another dish, which btw was pretty tasty. I would come back in a future and see if my experience improves. But as I said, the experience was good, 3 stars as 5 stars would be excellent and 4 starts pretty good :)
O. O.
We came here for Friday early dinner with our young kids on a larger road trip.
For the kids, the garlic bread was *very* full on - I think too much for kids. The burger was v good.
We enjoyed an excellent meal and I went for the chicken pie which was magnificent. An impressive size, and a beautiful crust. The only thing was that I found the clotted cream mash just too rich, so could only manage half of it. All other vegetables were beautifully cooked.
Friendly, helpful and efficient staff too.
A. b.
Breathtaking views of the Thames! Always a pleasure to visit. Great place for a quiet meeting with friends, date or family.

After the Beale Park we sat dawn here, and it was a good choice. Nice staff, good food, good beer. And just relaxing next to the river.
C. S.
Great food. Must go again soon. Staff really good and recommended amazing dishes. See photo for the one I had. Lovely beef which came off the bone.
S. S.
Really excellent and straightforward menu and food quality with great views along river. Definitely somewhere to return.

Mothers Day lunch, good tasty food and excellent service. Would have liked more choices on main course.

A calming pub by the river where we enjoyed drinks in the sun. Great service, can't comment on food.
K. W.
Good food don't expect large portions but enough for me.Expensive with 10% added which I didn't pay but did leave a tip,I don't agree with service charge.Very clean bar and restaurant area but the toilet was a big let down.Toilet and hand basin clean but the toilet brush, door, walls and window frames were dirty.I know it's an old building but it's no excuse.Outside seating by the Thames is lovely also the conservatory
a. t.
Excellent service at a very pretty olde English pub right next to river Thames with fab views. Great way to spend a summer's afternoon. Lovely food and good range of real ales and wine.
O. B.
Lovely meal but drink served in a dirty glass and dirty cutlery. Staff very apologetic and charming.
B. A.
Last minute booking and the staff were extremely accommodating! We visited with our dog and the staff had no issue with this and brought a water bowl for him before we had even sat down. The service was superb, second to none in fact. Food was quick, served hot and really good quality. We will certainly visit again and hope for an outside table to enjoy the beautiful views!
H. V.
Beautiful pub with an outstanding view of the river. Good service too
J. R.
Delicious food, with charming waiter and lovely views over the water. Had a great time with our friends. Thank you x

A wonderful pub. A worthy end to a walk through the Goring Gap. The service was outstanding.

Great views, great food and great service! We arrived by boat and fortunately were able to berth at one of the three moorings adjacent to the Swan. We had a lunchtime drink and then dinner ( we had previously made a reservation). The food was excellent and we were very well looked after by Maddie, our friendly and knowledgeable server. Highly recommended.
T. M.
A lovely setting for lunch outside on a warm day, by the river. Fish and chips was excellent. Didn't enjoy the person vaping next to us whilst we were eating. The staff were happy to move us though.
j. h.
Food is a bit average and a bit pricey . That being said I have only dined there a few times . The views of the Thames are great and the staff are friendly . Almost a 4 but value comes into it . Sorry
J. B.
Hadn't been to The Swan for about 3 years since last weekend so did wonder if the food and service was as good as I remembered it. Thankfully, it was. Impeccable service and food (Sunday Roast) arrived within 15 minutes. Deserts were excellent too, no complaints from myself or our group!
A. P.
Great outdoor seating next to the river. Friendly quick service.
C. J.
Very pleased with our lunch for 6 by the river here. The soft shell crab (you eat the whole thing and it's delicious) and the Heritage pie were excellent. We'll come again.
A. M.
Amazing views by the the river. Especially if the weather is sunny. Good selection of beers and ales. The menu is limited in options but all the items are really well prepared and taste great.
Definitely worth a visit.
G. P.
Update: back for Sunday lunch and they had issues with the kitchen which meant longer time to get food (did get told this in advance) but food was still not up to scratch.
This time manager accepted the food was not up to their usual standard.
Still staying a 3 star review.
Food I thought was only OK which was disappointing considering the price they charge.

I've been coming to this pub for over 30 years, it's changed hands several times and is now a foody pub, with the usual great views by the River Thames!
I was met at reception, asked if I had a reservation, which I didn't but we were given a lovely location by the river, to drink and have food, if we wanted.
My beer was brought to me promptly, it was ice cold and fresh tasting, great!
Several lagers and beers to choose from plus a varied menu.
All in all, a great experience!
I. M.
It was a goof food, also the services , atmosfere. I walk in afternoon around 16:00 so they are doing food also afternoon. Also they have a HUGE wine meniu .
L. W.
Great restaurant on the river with wonderful views. Outdoor seating available. Large menu selection with variety of options.
D. E.
Food very good it was a same the food was very slow between the course, the staff were very polite.
R. N.
Busy and beautiful. Went here on the weekend so the crowds are understandable. It's a great Riverside location with plenty of seating and friendly staff. My only issue is it feels a bit too city like and not true countryside pub feel to it. (This is) Great option near the station though.
N. H.
Lovely place, the live busking band was truly amazing. A real must hear, the singer was out of this world.
A. V.
Really nice place to sit on riverside , have drink and chill.. but the Sunday roast ;-(
E. M.
Absolutely beautiful pub, stunning views of the river, brilliant menu with great staff and service!!
T. F.
Nice olde worlde pub by the river, nice and cosy for a winter night, with a big open fireplace. Good food and service, with respectable toilets and music in them! They did very well the night we were there, despite their oven having broken. Car park is small, the access to which is on a slope, which could be awkward at very busy times. However it was quiet on our visit, so no parking problems. There is a car park up the road within a short walking distance which I suppose you could use if necessary. A swan is a beautiful bird, The Swan is a beautiful pub and restaurant!
S. S.
The service and view was spot on.... the staff was really good and delightful. BUT the food was not enjoyable and I would have gotten a better meal at a fast food outing. There was no love in the meals and the portions were stingy for the price. The acoustic in the restaurant made it loud for anyone to hear each other and no one at the table was over 35. I would go back for a drink and the view, but pretty turned off at the food, sadly.
C.
Beautiful setting. Good food. Friendly staff
6. I. R.
Excellent food, beer and a riverside table in the sun. What's not to like.
E. P.
Both inside and outdoor seating available. The restaurant is spacious and the tables are in a good distance from each other. Can order on your phone. Tried the burger which was fine but not the best. Staff was nice and friendly.
L. T.
Very lively wonderful food clean. Nice staff.
J. P. L.
Average pub food, Massively over priced for the quality and limited options. Only two vegetarian options one of which had run out. Was placed right at the end to sit and felt the staff often forgot about the table and was left waiting a long time for service.
P. T.
Nicely situated but a bit noisy. Good food
J. B.
Roast dinner not worth the expense. Vegetables verging on raw especially the cabbage. Vegetarian Wellington more like a beef burger in pastry. Frozen Yorkshire puddings and thin gravy. Poor show
Service charge automatically added and hefty
I. V.
On a sunny day this is the place to go. Staff is amazing, happy to help with anything from a bar tap to seating and recommendation on the menu. Ooh, and the food is amazing, big portions and decent prices
K. R.
Place is run down and good was just OK. A little disappointing as I remembered it too be a lot better when we used to live near.
J. P.
Chose this pub for lunch on Bank Holiday Monday as a midway meeting place and weren't disappointed. Although parking is limited in small car park, the Rail Station car park, only a stones throw away, was just £3.30 for all day parking. Greeted warmly on entry and all staff were very pleasant and helpful, especially our waitress, Chloe. Very clean throughout. Good social distancing and other Covid regulations and safeguards were in place and observed. Felt relaxed at all times. Our table of 4 was attended to well without being rushed and allowed to enjoy our time together. We all enjoyed the quality food and drink. Would gladly revisit.
J. T.
Tasty and reasonably priced lunch menu. Staff welcomed me as solo diner and I enjoyed the warm and cosy atmosphere. Looking forward to coming back in more clement weather...
R. O.
Lovely atmosphere, beautiful river side seating's
S. B.
I visited here with two friends, who were telling me about their previous visit, where the food took over an hour to arrive. They did receive their food for free at that time. The food was, again, late to arrive on this visit. Not over an hour, I'm glad to say. We did receive some money off the bill. Great food though, and a very apologetic waitress.
M. J.
Good vegan options. Good service and friendly staff. Just parking was a bit of hassle but we arrived early others had to struggle a bit. Food was good quality, quantity and tasty.
H. k.
Nice place to relax and enjoy a bite WATCHING boats on Thames and the lock
J. O.
Nice pub , good local beers and a fantastic location even if leaving the car park is a tad tight as it's on the bend of a road.
C. S.
Amazing friendly staff good food on a sunny day amazing scenery 🙂

Just had the most delicious meal celebrating our anniversary. The food could not have been better and the service was the best we've had in ages. So so pleased.
L. K.
Booked 6 weeks ago thinking I would get a good table but was put in the darkest and dingiest corner of the restaurant that had dirty seats and cobwebs. I asked if we could move which they accommodated but said as I hadn't requested a river view in advance then I couldn't have them as they had all gone. The waitress was lovely and very bubbly and the food we had was lovely, however a huge disappointed in the puddings. How can you accommodate for a vegan in the starters and main and not in the puddings. The waitress just said 'thats just the way it is' . When I asked if you had lactose free or soya milk it was a no just Oat. So I was left feeling unaccommodated for. Being vegan is not uncommon these days and restaurants need to be more accommodating for people with intolerances. I will only go back to restaurants that make the effort! I expected more from the swan.
p. c.
Had a lovely time sit next to the Thames with great people....a true delight....staff were attentive without being overbearing prices as one would expect
S. H.
Lovely pub. Only had a drink here, but has a great atmosphere and friendly staff.
A. M.
Had a fantastic Sunday lunch this afternoon. Even though we hadn't booked ahead they managed to get us a table sorted for a group of 6 last minute. The Vegan Wellington was really delicious and the service was top notch. Would recommend a visit if you're in the area.
R. D.
Stopped there for lunch while kayaking
L.
Great location, large meals..great tasting
O. M.
We really enjoyed our visit and will make it a destination next time we are up this way.
Great long riverside garden/terrace with well spaced tables. Staff were excellent especially Libby who served us. We came on 21 July in the early evening. Sat on a table by the river and had really well made and presented food.
M. T.
It's another gem of a pub on the river with a style that's suits all with a great homely interior. The service was great & the young girls were highly attentive, but...the olives were horrendous!
Staff are great, positioning is top class but the food is below par.
J. F.
Lovely location on the River and great food
K. H.
Great riverside location, very good food and beer. We had good service too. Slightly on the pricey side but acceptable given the quality.
J. C.
Just had lunch at The Swan on the first day of the Eat Out to Help Out government scheme so the staff were incredibly busy. Despite this, they were incredibly friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the venue is kept very clean. They have plenty of rules in place in order to keep customers COVID safe, but none of them encroach on the quality of the experience when dining
A. S. T.
Great place with a ton of carisma. Old but maintained structure inside is giving you such a back in time vibe. I was also lucky enough to be seated next to an old but still functional fire place, which adds light and smell to the experience.
Amazing food, reasonably priced with a service that is on the same level.
Recommend for sure!
M. P.
Lovely spot, parking and outside space a bit tight.
J. (.
Great river pub, quite full, with a dark end as well as the terrace and the bright main room. Decent cider as well as beer and all the usual things
J. D.
Only stopped off for a coffee, which was lovely. Friendly and helpful service, comfortable seating and a lovely view across the river. Just what we needed!
S. G.
Lovely setting, good service! Few details about the food but as a chef, I see it all differently from your average person. Highly recommend it all though!
T. C.
Ok pub… nice view of the river. Chips weren’t really “triple cooked” I must say…
k. h.
Good drinks with a lovely outdoor seating area overlooking the Thames..
A. E.
After informing the waiter I have a nut allergy, I was able to order the tempura soft shell crab without the dressing which contained nuts. I enjoyed the dish.
Although I didn't notice the small dog in the corner until the end of my meal, I didn't like that they allow pets.
R. C.
This is a popular riverside pub that does good food and drink, which I have been to many times before.
Today is the first time I've been there since before the pandemic. They have a good system in place, which was explained to us when we arrived. We were met in the entrance lobby and gave our contact tracing details using their web based system, easily accessible by scanning a bar code with your mobile phone. We were shown to a table on their waterfront terrace and they took our order and brought our drinks to us. We paid at the table with contact less card before leaving through the side gate. They have a one way system in place with a one at a time policy for using the toilet facilities.
All the time we were there, we felt quite safe.
D. v. B.
Lovely food and so restful next to the river!
A. M.
Really nice food, if you can get a terrace seat in the sunshine a really lovely dining experience on the river.
However loses a star - when it's busy despite there being lots of staff they repeatedly forget drinks orders. We had to ask five times where our first drinks order was and twice where our second drinks order was.
L. K.
Beautiful views, lovely & really friendly staff and amazing food. Would 100% recommend. Dog friendly too which was a big bonus for us.
H. W.
went for dinner on evening. the starter was amazing but the main was the blandness most disappointing bowl of pasta I think I have eatten. Prawn linguine with chilli and tomatoes but was just plain prawns and 4 flakes of chilli. I had to ask my sister if I could have 3 of her cherry tomatoes as they seemed to have forgotten mine. was no seasoning and didn't even seem like all the ingredients had been placed in the same pan. Lovely setting and for drinks would be wonderful but would not recommend for food.
H. B.
Average meal, above average prices. Guys you're probably the most expensive pub in the village and whilst you're capable of making some great food this is the second visit in a row where the standard fell short of your reputation and the price you charge. Our meals came out cold and the bill had to be challenged yet again because the advertised discounts weren't applied.
R. W.
lovely pub with a beautiful fireplace by the river
M. L.
Great place to enjoy a sundowner, tasty meal and view of the Thames river. Venue very well positioned with efficient and friendly staff. Many thanks.
C. C.
The interior was clean and modern, with a rowing atmosphere. The service was also friendly and helpful; I never felt as though I was impatiently waiting for service. The drinks, the food, and the bill were brought quickly!
We all ordered the fish and chips. It was a generous portion and very tasty. The mushy peas were different than I am used to, and I preferred them to regular ones. The chips tasted super crispy, which is perfection.
The only reason I don't give five stars is the drink menu for beer and wine is quite short. I would have liked just a few more options so I didn't have to drink the most generic beer. But I realise that is me being very picky.
A. C.
Great beer, great service and lovely spot by the river
J. M.
Surprisingly tasty and varied high quality food. Had the vegetarian Japanese dish similar to donburi which was delicious. Everyone else ordered the chicken and leek pie which was also considered really tasty. Afterward ordered English breakfast tea and Earl Grey. We downed two teapots. The amount of food and drink we got for the price was well worth it. The atmosphere and decor inside was wonderful and honestly I would come back and bring others. Service was very adequate but we had to get someone's attention to grab the bill after a while of sitting there. I'm not too fussed over that though, it can be easy not to realise when people are done with their food and we were checked in on while eating.
J. D.
Lovely busy River Thames pub, with stunning views and mooring for passing boats visiting for a drink, loo stop, or a bite to eat. Delightful views and scenery across the beautiful River Thames, watching the boats go in or out of the lock. Service from the waitresses is second to none, the girls are very courteous, helpful, friendly and smiley. Food is well presented and a good choice on the menu. Fish and chips: quite pricey at £15, but a huge portion, batter hot and crisp, though the fish inside is a little bland and tasteless, hence only 4 stars. Overall it's an asset to the lovely village of Pangbourne and we'll definitely go back.
U. A.
Absolutely beautiful meal, a wonderful view, well explained social distancing rules and super friendly staff who went out of their way to make our meal special, it was an anniversary dinner and my wife and I actually had our third date here 10+ years ago. One of the best meals and anniversaries we have had, cannot recommend enough
a. t.
Lovely pub. Lovely terrace outside, by the river. Havent tried the food personally - but received positive feedback from friends. Lovely selection of drinks. Atmosphere is fantastic and friendly - this place feels like a friends gathering all the time. The only potential issue is parking which is a bit limited.
P. M.
Excellent setting overlooking the Thames with plenty to loook at whilst enjoying a drink or food as the boats pass by. Great selection of foods and locally produced drinks. We particularly liked the Windsor & Eton brewery beers! Lovely setting, child and dog friendly. A little more attention to build up of glasses and plates building up which could have done with a tidy away
V. L.
This is a quaint restaurant right on the water. Beautiful views. Outdoor seating available. The food was amazing. I am rating it 4 stars instead of 5 because the host gave us a hard time when we asked to be seated. He told us there were no tables available although half of the restaurant was unmistakably empty and there were free tables indoors AND outdoors. When we questioned him, he told us every single table was reserved and we'd have about a twenty minute wait. We said we'd wait, and we sat at the bar. Thirty seconds later a table miraculously opened up. Everything after that went smoothly. Our waitress was wonderful and the food was delicious.
R. R.
Always enjoyed popping in for a drink/meal during the day at the Swan since 2017. Went there today with my partner around 8 pm for a drink and all the girls were friendly & helpful as usual but not the European sounding Bartender.
Made me wait for few minutes (I was the only one waiting) only to make an awkward 'why is he waiting here' gesture to another waitress, so she attends to me instead of him. He wasn't discrete and upon calling him out, I got a vague response.
Congrats mate, you just erased couple of stars from my review with your annoying attitude & we are not coming back for an evening drink!
c.
We were first through the door as the swan reopened this lunchtime. They remembered us and welcomed us as returning friends. they even remembered what we like to order. They had not been able to restock avocado yet for their mouth-watering avo on ciabatta with poached eggs and bacon but went out of their way to construct a tempting alternative off menu and it was delicious . Coffee was great. Service perfect. Views sublime as always. Unlike some they take Covid precautions very seriously not letting us in until we had registered and sanitised. Well done them.
M.
No complaints. Varied menu with some small bites, perfect if you don't fancy a full meal. (Main meals we saw being dished out looked good too btw). Good ale. Well served g & t. Lovely views from terrace and an attractive interior. Will return 👍
U. C.
Had drinks..all fine. Pity view spoilt by motor boats moored up to pub. A river view would have been appreciated
J. R.
Went on Fathers Day. Very busy. Staff were courteous and friendly throughout. My gluten free needs were dealt with by being given an allergy guide which after studying was reasonably easy to follow. Gin and tonics arrived without gin but that was quickly rectified! Service was quite slow but probably due to volume. Menu range reasonable for a bill of £100 for 3 including 1 main course each, drinks and coffee
C. D.
Beautiful place to eat outdoor seating is amazing only downfull is unfortunately parking is a bit tight ! But still love the place and food
M. C.
Looking very tired and tatty cleanliness poor, food very average, needs a revamp
J. L.
Moored our boat up alongside and ate our meal overlooking the Thames on the verandah. Sun was shining and it was a wonderful experience; great ambience inside and out, very friendly service, good food and ale, dogs allowed. A lovely riverside pub/restaurant. You will enjoy this place approaching from either the land or the river!
E. T.
Lovely place inside but outside is beautiful sitting on the river. Service was second to none and the food was delicious. Only thing was it's a bit pricey for what you get
G. C.
Great service and nice venue, clean and cared for. Food was OK, not fantastic and therefore a bit more than I'd like to pay. Beer was only passable, tasted a bit like the lines needed cleaning. Generally pretty good just needs to sort out the fine touches for a 5/5.
B. F.
Lovely ambience and river view
Pet friendly
Prefect for a relaxing gathering
R. B.
The outside patio is really lovely in the summer. The social distancing measures were great and we were made to fee very comfortable by Naneesha. The portions were quite big so were very full after having starters as well!
A. B.
Menu is much more appealing than reality, which is disappointing and overpriced, as are the drinks. Perfect setting and potentially great food with good service. Children's food options not up to much which is a shame as this is our local. Beware jazz nights if you want to have a conversation!
Last time we went we had a couple of beers 3 tapas, a couple of bowls of chips and milk for the children and it was £41! Had to have something to eat later...
T. N.
Had a really excellent meal with my family and partner on Saturday. Really friendly service too. Couldn't fault!
D. W.
Damn it was hot and stuffy inside the restaurant, even with the windows open to the river. If they could jam open the door or Windows at the front they might get an airflow. Aircon would have been great, but the staff did manage to find a fan to give us some respite. Not a very disabled place, with steep slopes, limited parking and internal steps. Perhaps that's part of its charm. Food was excellent. Staff were relaxed.
D. S.
Nice friendly gastro pub, the staff were good, the food tasty, no issues.
They have a nice cosy area for games like jenga and trivial pursuit (Those are the only 2 that I saw so hopefully that range increases soon) I went at nighttime but the outside area overlooking the river looked amazing and could be a brilliant afternoon having a few drinks out there in the sun.
Parking was a bit tight so heads up for that
D. Z.
With only what seemed like three front of house staff in attendance, we thought that our Friday night dinner would be slow in arriving. However the service was actually good once it got going, and the food itself was quite disappointing. Some frozen and some microwaved components (such as the potatoes that came as a side to the main dish). The pub itself is very nice, such a shame about the mediocre food.
J. C.
Booked for 10 ,a 6 and a 4 inside. Was put outside and a long way apart from each other.we waited for a table inside,we were in no rush .Took ages to place order then waited 40 mins nothing so cancelled all mains and doubled up starters.wasnt organised at all, but the manager came over apologised and was very understanding and professional. The starters were fantastic and on another night I'm sure everything would be great.Wont put me off .
Thank you Sophie for your reply,I will definitely return .U can see that the food is lovely and your staff,I look forward to meeting you.
Jamie...

Good C-19 procedures but very busy. It seemed only diners at lunchtime could have outside seating overlooking the river.
S. R.
We had Sunday roast here which wasn't great I have to say. The roast potatoes weren't cooked properly and the gravy was thin and watery. Not worth the £15.99 we paid. We sat outside and it's a lovely setting by the river, but this was spoilt by people smoking. I was quite upset by this as we had children with us, but the smokers didn't seem to care. Also there was a man with a Doberman which barked loudly practically the whole time we were there and he seemed quite out of control. I've been to this pub before and had a much better experience, so maybe it was down to them being very busy that day. The staff were extremely polite and helpful though. Would I go again? Probably yes I'd give them another chance as it's a beautiful place.
T. P.
Food was poor for the money, had a few issues but to their credit they listened and rectified the issues. Well handled. Hopefully the teething problems after lockdown will be ironed out soon.
D. A.
Post lockdown meal outside. All organised very well. Ran out of a lot of menu options though so gave free desert without asking. Nice gesture to compensate us. Nice setting.
C. P.
Great atmosphere and delicious desserts
A. C.
When it came, food was tasty if a little greasy. Burger was served on wooden board with fries in enamel bowl - let's have plates!
Car park small for size of pub with advice to use pay and display station car park if full.
The service was slow.
Overall, it was pub food at restaurant prices + 10% service charge on top. We probably won't go there again.
M. H.
Lovely meals and views. Very accommodating when our boat broke down for 24 hours.
D. W.
A great riverside bar/restaurant with a great choice of ales/craft beers both on tap and in bottles. In the sunny weather it can get crowded outside and you will understand why as the world goes by on the river. There is limited parking on site here so do plan an alternative before arriving.
P. C.
Fairly good fish and chips, in a nice riverside location. Try to bag the window seats in poor weather, or sit outside in good, to enjoy the view to it's best. Service goid, though we had to chivvy them up to find out where our second round of drinks had gone. Parking limited, but the station car park a short way away, can be used. Would go again.
S. F.
People were super nice. The place is cozy. The kitchen was very busy and we had to wait about 30min for the food, but we were advised about it and the food was delicious, so it was worth waiting. It's not a cheap place, but the quality and quantity of the food make it good value for money. Will return to the swan for sure
J. W.
Very nice meal but had to wait an hour for it on a quiet weekday at lunchtime. Management dealt with the situation well but only after we brought it to their attention. We had the special lunchtime menu. Delicious fish cakes and chicken burgers
P. M.
Nice riverside setting. However I think the food and beer are overpriced, seems they charge extra for the views. I do hate pubs levying a service charge on beer and food. Leave it to the discretion of the customer. Not returning there. Will stick with my local Greene King pub. No service charge there. Drinkers and diners beware.
B. K.
The chicken burger is amazing. Great place for a meal. Good service.
D. k.
Service was slow. Food was good.
J. P.
Visited with a large group, they were able to accommodate us well, although was a bit of a squeeze. Most of the group went for the roast which all agreed was good. I had a burger which unfortunately was very overcooked, shame as the chips and dessert were amazing.
R. S.
The good points are that it is an old pub in a lovely location with views of the river; free moorings outside; tables in the restaurant are well spaced for privacy; front of house staff are bright and very pleasant; the wines are nice and the food is good. The bad points are that the background music is of very poor quality with no bass, too loud, and a strange choice of content; we ordered charcuterie as a starter for three people, it took ages to arrive, although we ate quickly the main courses arrived before we had finished and the staff didn't know what to do; non alcoholic drinks are very expensive and prices are not shown at the table - £2.40 for half a pint of lemonade and £3.90 for a bottle of water. If you want to eat there you have to book as it is very popular. This waterside pub used to cater for river users but now it seems to be aimed at the local yuppies.
D. A.
Excellent, lovely place.
C. R.
Tasty food and good portions. Felt it was overpriced and shame the lunch menu wasn’t served on Sunday. Great friendly service - good job really as the service charge is automatically added to the bill!
G. D.
Best restaurant in Pangbourne, you will need reservation as it's crowded and not that many tables.
The food it's great vast selection of cocktails beers and wines where you can enjoy them in front of the fireplace. Great carpark outside, all major credit cards accepted, wheelchair accessible. =0]
P. R.
Good food reasonable prices nice touches (see photo)
P. G.
Absolutely fantastic Sunday lunch
K. G.
Lovely place with friendly service. It did take a while for us to get drinks and they forgot a couple of things but they were apologetic. The food was very good, just a shame we seemed to have been forgotten about at times but the pub was busy. Would definitely return!
h. c.
This place is lovely for a drink on the river but I would not advise eating here. We had to wait quite a long time for our food and when it arrived it was cold, uninspiring and missing items. My roast chicken was missing THREE things from the menu (beetroot, parsnip puree and stuffing). Also, the beetroot was advertised as being with fennel seeds, when it turned up, it was not. And the carrots were meant to be with ginger and honey and if they were you couldn't taste either. The gravy was gloopy, the Yorkshires too crispy and the chicken was cooked alright but had slimy skin. All in all it was overpriced and dissapointing food. This all said, they did give us a bit of money off the food which was a nice gesture, and the wait staff were great.
K. P.
Lovely location on the River front, with excellent outdoor seating area. Inside is well set out and cozy.
We were only having a drink on our last visit which we were able to site very the log fire and take it all in.
The Swan is child friendly and provides some toys, colouring in and books.
I haven't personally eaten here but everyone I know that has highly recommends it although worth bearing in mind it's better quality than standard pub food and the price reflects it.
H. L.
The food was excellent, the service prompt, courteous, but unobtrusive. Everything from booking (party of nine, with a last minute change) to us leaving was handled perfectly. Would recommend, and will definitely visit again.
Thank you to the team at The Swan Pangbourne, we had a great time.
D. T.
Roast was mediocre, will not be rushing back.
D. M.
Lovely food, beautiful setting, perfect for lunch Time drink's on a sunny day overlooking the Thames
A. H.
The food was excellent and the service was very friendly and thoughtful to the point of bringing my husband a birthday gift which was a plate with happy birthday written on it with a glaze and some icecream! So lovely! 👌
J. M.
Greeted by two plant pots outside the front entrance full of old cigarette buts. Lovely location. Staff great. Food slightly over priced. Heating was off but there was a fire. However it was cold if not sitting near fire.
G. E.
Great service this evening from Chloe with well prepared food in a stunning location by the river. Recommended. Well done Chloe!
S. H.
We phoned in the morning to book a reservation and were told to come at 12 as they were extremely busy. As soon as we walked in we were the first ones to arrive. After politely saying hello we weren't greeted by the manager and the supervisor. The manager looked away from his phone for a brief minute then turned back to looking at his phone without responding. He also spent the entire afternoon walking around looking terribly important but not greeting any customers and waiting for the waitresses at his beck and call. Despite the general lack of customer service, we did have a lovely waitress and the food was of a high standard. I do feel like that if the management was to a higher level then the customers would be more satisfied.
A. F.
Really great food, lovely views and very friendly service. After even a fairly minor delay, the staff were falling over themselves to go above and beyond to make our visit enjoyable.
D.
Amazing service amazing food good price. All in lovely surroundings next to the river. Also dog friendly which is a bonus. Highly recommended
M. P.
A lovely setting right on the riverside. Good selection of beers and friendly staff.
R. W.
Lovely riverside pub, will be back!
M. D.
Food is lush. Sandwich was huge. Beautiful spot near the river in the garden
A. E.
Lovely place, very friendly staff and located right on the river. Very nice little pub.
L. W.
Great food, great atmosphere and beautiful views (when the boats aren't moored next to the tables). Friendly staff, wide range of drinks at expected prices.
P. S.
I have eaten here several times over the years and apart from really exceptionally busy summer evenings, I can't fault this place! Great service and good food.
P. H.
This is a lovely little pub in a lovely location. However, the service was extremely slow,. Might have been due to the fact it was Sunday, but they were not very attentive of us and everything seemed to be rushed. They ran out of a lot of things on the menu and when we finally received the roast it was missing a lot of the vegetables (Carrots and parsnips) which they had replaced with cabbage. That being said, the food was lovely and the burger was huge!
S. H.
Stopped here for lunch on Saturday after a walk around Basildon Park. We had the dog with us and were pleased to be told that we could take him into the bar with us. Although very busy the service was prompt and food was delivered very quickly. Ploughman's was lovely and a very generous portion, however my partner had the chicken burger and felt that it was quite dry. All in all though, a good experience, with decent food at very reasonable prices.
M. S.
Excellent food, very nice place. I enjoyed my lunch on the terrasse with nice weather and great view on the river.
Recommended if you are nearby.
D. V.
Great food, good staff, lovely place to visit. Car park is small so had to park nearby in the station pay and display. Highly recommended.
P. “. D.
Stopped in for a drink, always love this pub, lovely outdoor area next to the river
P. H.
Friendly. Good Food. Convivial. The manager is good at his job and liked by his staff. One of the hearts of Pangbourne. River location. 5 minutes from station. We have been visiting for years.
G. A.
Great place to sit and enjoy a drink by the river! The food is overpriced. Burger was tasteless and stingy on the fries. I’ve eaten here twice now (different items on the menu) and wouldn’t order food again. I’d come back for drink
J. K.
Friendly and informative staff. They follow the Covid-19 regulations explicitly. Nice location for a lovely view of the Thames wier whilst having a meal and a drink.
P. S.
Good food (I had the mackerel pate and roast chicken), great outdoor area on the river, good drinks selection. Parking slightly limited due to location but it's a small town so we parked a nice short walk away.
G. C.
Great service and nice venue, clean and cared for. Food was OK, not fantastic and therefore a bit more than I'd like to pay. Beer was only passable, tasted a bit like the lines needed cleaning. Generally pretty good just needs to sort out the fine touches for a 5/5.

Great vibe friendly staff and excellent professional Covid prevention. Food was great too. Well done!

People were super nice. The place is cozy. The kitchen was very busy and we had to wait about 30min for the food, but we were advised about it and the food was delicious, so it was worth waiting. It's not a cheap place, but the quality and quantity of the food make it good value for money. Will return to the swan for sure
J. R.
Went on Fathers Day. Very busy. Staff were courteous and friendly throughout. My gluten free needs were dealt with by being given an allergy guide which after studying was reasonably easy to follow. Gin and tonics arrived without gin but …
M.
No complaints. Varied menu with some small bites, perfect if you don't fancy a full meal. (Main meals we saw being dished out looked good too btw). Good ale. Well served g & t. Lovely views from terrace and an attractive interior. Will return 👍
K. W.
Lovely food, stunning setting
C. C.
The interior was clean and modern, with a rowing atmosphere. The service was also friendly and helpful; I never felt as though I was impatiently waiting for service. The drinks, the food, and the bill were brought quickly! …
J. C.
Helpful staff, lovely setting
J. M.
Very good well worth a visit
D. F.
I love the swan! From its views, to a great menu or even it's great device. It just never disappoints. The roasts are particularly good! Make sure you go and enjoy!!!
K. I.
Great pub, especially for summer dining by the River Thames! Good food, often accompanied by live music on summer weekends. Waiter service, and friendly staff.
A. T.
Food was great and service was quick. We had a private meeting and the staff made to tuck us in the corner to give us some privacy.
j.
Normally really good, had one not so great meal there but every other time it’s been very much enjoyed, so bigger picture, well worth returning to and often recommend people to give it a try
S. M.
Lovely pub, food is brilliant! Staff are very attentive and welcoming, even during the Covid19 pandemic, it felt just like before
10/10 would come again
C. C.
Great Gastro-Pub beside the Thames. Has great seating areas. The beer/ wine selection is good with something for everyone. Highly recommended.
M. C.
Fantastic place for a decent meal. Sitting in the sunshine watching The Thames flow past. I havent been to another pub like it.
Go and enjoy soon.
L. H.
Very nice food but the prices were a little steep. Lovely location. Great chance to practice good clutch control getting out the car park on the steep sharp turn.
M. M.
Delicious food, wonderful views, and fantastic service! Highly recommend!
C. S.
Lovely situation next to the river, very good food and service to match.
P. K.
Good Food pub. It had Loddon Valley ales on a previous visit. Green King this last time. Fabulous views over the river. Small car park but there is a municipal one in the town
D. B.
Have been here twice before. Food was really good as was atmosphere but service was so slow - asked one person for extra gravy - nothing asked someone else and once meal was finished first order of gravy - had to chase desserts twice as we had to the bill - such a shame would think twice of returning
M. A. A.
Love this place so so much.
Been going for 22years.
Have lots of fondest memories of my loving mother.
Although the standard of food as been very disappointing the last few times I have been.
Which is a shame because i love this place.
M. G.
A nice pub right by the waterside. Service was good but I felt the Xmas festive menu was quite over priced for the food we received. Could have been better food.
D. M.
Great place, especially in summer right next to the weir. Good food. Perhaps need a broader selection of beers for me, but generally a lovely place with lovely staff
T. H.
Wow! Top Quality food and service. These people know what they're doing!!
L. N.
Special place on Thames, vith nice view, staff food and drinks
S. M.
Best visit I'd had in ages. Nice food from the new menu. Service good. Previous poor experiences somewhat redeemed!
T. F.
Pretty good meal, thanks for looking after us.
l. p.
Lovely pub setting
G. M.
Nice view from seating along the River. Service good. Friendly staff . Average pub food . Get there early though as limited parking. You can park in the town and walk down to the pub.
M. F.
Very good service - food was good but as we ate at 4pm the roast was a bit tired! Probably just a wrong choice.
R. S.
One of the best pubs in the area. Like the beer, the food is consistently good quality, and the service is good as well. Love the location and look of the place. We come here regularly.
D. T.
We went in here for a couple of drinks and were greeted in the most friendly manner. We were made to feel very welcome and that we were the most important customers. We are going to book the Xmas meal, it looks superb.
W. W.
A great pub on the river. Friendly, if slightly inefficient service.
A. S.
The decor inside is very tasteful or you can sit outside on comfortable chairs overlooking the river. Great menu, delicious food, pricey - of course - but worth it.
J. H.
I first came to this pub about fifteen years ago, when I arrived on a friend's boat - superbly you can moor your boat by their riverside terrace and walk straight in, which was rather special.
Since then I've seen several changes of management to this historic 17th Century inn, and it has definitely had its up and downs over the years. It's possible that its fame and location have always slightly held it back from being a truly great pub - in the sense that people will keep going regardless - and many incarnations of the management here have been a bit cold and corporate about the place accordingly.
If you can overlook the regrettable pubco ambience it has today, and imagine it in an earlier era, it's still quite a special place. This is, after all, where the characters of Three Men in a Boat decided to give up on their rowing expedition, and, after a few drinks, get the train back to London.
M. S. (.
River side pub restaurant . ..had Sunday roast very tasty but shame about the roast potatoes.....not to the same standard to rest of the meal....
D. B.
Great terrace and vegetarian curry was brilliant
S.
A great place to eat with lovely views of the Thames and friendly staff
P. M.
Food is pretty good, always busy. I suggest you book. Beautiful location on the river, fabulous in summer if you can get a seat.
R. W.
Lovely pub next to the river. Great views food and drink good. Staff friendly and helpful. On the expensive side though.
V. M.
Nice position on river, but thought service could have been better and meals expensive!
M. D.
I can't review the food since they've closed the kitchen at 2pm on a Bank Holiday Monday as its too busy! Despite telling me one hour earlier on the phone I wouldn't need to book! Who'd have thought a pub would be busy at lunchtime, whatever next. Add to that the glass they've just brought me is dirty, umm, might find an alternative.
J. C.
Good food, nice place and location. Minimal parking, come on a bike if you have one.
R. H.
Brilliant food and drinks choice will go there again
A. M.
Lovely roast lunch at the Swan today. Delicious and generous portions and very helpful staff. It's a lovely setting by the river, too.
D. W.
Great food Saturday, table with a view to share a special evening with dear friends. Service fantastic. Highly recommend.
G. I.
Beautiful food, lovely staff and environment, it was my birthday and they made it very special and let my partner bring in a cake and they did some extra bits for me too.
M. A.
Awesome. The barmen really know there whiskeys. Nothing too much trouble. They even opened a fresh bottle of Lagavulin 16 year old for me and brother.
P. F.
We always drop in here when in the Thames at Pangbourn. It's lovely to sit outside and watch wildlife and boats in the river, enjoy a special gin and ever better to be able to moor your own boat.
c. l.
Very nice food 👌👍
C. N.
Lovely setting. Decent food. V good service when we were there.

Perfect Pub for a summer first date.
Outside seating area overlooking the Thames.
Great food and friendly staff.
D. A.
Food smelt nice. Great position on the river. Beer was quite poor, didn't taste fresh.
J. c.
Really nice place....Great view and great food.... This place has the best fish and chips I ever had......Friendly staff and great hospitality service.....will definitely recommend this place if you are in the area.
S. C.
Food was Amazing , staff were kind helpful
C. K.
Amazing place. We had brunch , which was delicious. Beautiful view from the outside area. Definitely worth a repeated visit.
A.
Perfect location with great outdoor seating to watch the sunset and the boats go by. Food was also good and the staff very attentive
L. H.
Wonderful views from the terrace. Friendly service and good food.
L. M.
The Swan have recently undergone a refurbishment. It's vastly improved but perhaps has become a little too 'gastro-pub' for my liking. They've carefully made sure that the décor is not too severe or modern, but the steepish prices and slightly clinical feel are a bit disappointing. However, if you want to enjoy the river on a summer's day, or are just out with some friends, then this is a very reasonable place.
B. G.
Great pub and restaurant on the banks of the River Thames. Good lunch menu, excellent quality. Serves real ales. Cosy and romantic.
D. P.
parking is tight, cook decides what not to cook and some food is meh, bathroom and windows dirty, otherwise not a bad visit. lol
T. G.
Great place, loved Dominic. Recommended me a banging ravioli. Good lad x
A. K.
Lovely pub with lovely location! Just came for drinks. Was served by Teagan who was very lovely! We will be back!
D. D.
Nice place with solid pub food. Close to the river with a lovely view in summer. Car park is small but railway nearby has parking available.
P. M.
Beautiful view, delicious food
C. S.
I'm sure the food is great but I've been sitting here for three quarters of an hour and we haven't even had the while you wait bread yet. It's not even that full! Possibly very understaffed...
m. p.
Wonderful welcoming friendly staff. Calves liver rare as it should be and a chunky turkey sandwich but, for the non driver, a seductive espresso martini ....Bliss!
M. B.
Very tasty food. Excellent vegan burger. Friendly, attentive staff. Lovely riverside location.
E. G.
I have to agree with a number of the reveiews here, we visited this weekend for a family birthday and ate in the " private dining room" - It's the wood store in the basement, not what you'd imagine :(
The service was exceptionally slow from start to finish, 3 courses took over 3 hours which is plainly unacceptable (About 45 mins wait for each course).
The staff did their best to mitigate the wait however clearly they had too much business to cope with yet didn't discourage us from ordering or inform us that service would be slow.
The food was good and normally I'd say worth the wait but in this instance the wait was just toooo long.
A lovely meal spoilt by inadequate service speed and at the prices charged I would have expected much much better
S. C.
Exceptional service, lovely setting. A small and very uncharacteristic issue with the food which was dealt with quickly and professionally.
S. L.
Had a nice beer in here last year when I was at a convalescent home getting over a nasty injury and 3 ops. Nice bar right on banks of the Thames bit pricey.
S. H.
Had steamed Sole with Samphire & Cherry Tomatoes. Absolutely delicious!
Staff was friendly, helpful & cheerful - delighted!
C. C.
A lovely spot by the river and a huge Steak sandwich!
S. P.
Nice food in lovely part of the world. Limited menu, which was made smaller due to lack of food! Slow service too.
M. B.

Really nice location with helpful and pleasant staff. It was pretty busy on the Sunday afternoon and a few options were of by 1430 but I think that is testament to it's popularity.
