Really good experience! Went here for my birthday, was my first time. Staff where welcoming and polite. Food tasting great, great portion size, was delivered fast didn't have to hardly wait and was good value for money. We used the App to order the food to the table which was simple to use. All in all would definitely go again 🙂

We visited The Victoria Cross for lunch, Kerry our waitress explained that we found a table and ordered at the bar. It was an extensive menu of fun food, all the calories were calculated on the menu. My son ordered the chicken burger which was huge, and almost beat him. Kerry checked on us and made us feel welcome, the food arrived very quickly and was delicious. The hot chocolate was amazing with maltesers. We are going back soon. The food is very reasonably priced, made even better by my Tesco vouchers.

We booked a sit down meal for 30 people for a birthday party. We had the best time. We were able to get in early to decorate, the food was so quick and very tasty. The staff were so friendly and helpful. We went down to the bar where there was a DJ and it really added to the evening. Everyone who came said what a brilliant time they had and it went so smoothly. We will be coming back again.

Came today with family who live locally. They had said the pub had been under new management for a few months and how much it’s improved. I can’t comment on that myself however we had a great lunch. It was very busy with all staff working hard but all smiling and polite. Food was delicious and great value. Lovely family atmosphere. Would definitely return when in the area again.

I visited the Victoria cross recently with my granddaughter and we had a very lovely evening. The young lady with tattoos served me, she was helpful and very cheery. The food was delicious. My granddaughter is a very picky eater but there were so many options that she didn’t have to worry about not being able to eat anything. Next time I visit I will definitely bring the whole family along.

UPDATED REVIEW! On recent visits, I have been introduced to the new General Manager, who has been implementing changes in the branch and all seem good, new staff coming, new kitchen manager too so issues of late food and drink should be a thing of the past soon, I still stand with the upstairs area should be open to adults only so you can chill away from the families and sports fans and I am told the upstairs area will be open in time, adults only though, not sure yet. Fair play to the new manager who took her time to introduce herself to me and my colleague, we usually visit after work and todays visit was very chill and we were dealt with very quickly.

Lovely bar and great food. Has improved drastically the past few months. I come in most weekends and Keely and Rhi are always amazing. They seem to work really long days but always manage to be having fun and smiling. That makes the customers feel good too. The rest of the staff are great too.

What a fabulous place! We had a buffet spread for my step fathers wake and the staff just could not do enough. The quality of the food was fantastic with a wide variety of choice. Chicken skewers, sandwiches, dips, chips, quiche, coleslaw, tortillas, salads, corn on the cob etc. The staff, led by Fiona, were respectful and kind and could not do enough. I would thoroughly recommend for events as well as lunches / dinners as a family. A truly marvellous experience. A MASSIVE thank you.

Walked in last Friday morning as I was in the area. Even though the kitchen was closed, the staff were very kind and welcoming. The assistant manager on shift was very kind and served me a large coke. This was very refreshing and she knows how to strike up great conversation. I spoke with another team member who shared her biking stories with me and it was a nice conversation to have. Overall, staff are very friendly and 100% would recommend this pub.

Visited several times in the past and always reasonable cost and quality. Staff friendly. This time they had no beers and the staff explained that they were replacing the beer pumps with cocktail dispensers. So, if you like cider, lager spirits or cocktails it's OK.

I am a regular customer at this pub and I'm always greeted with kind and friendly staff which are willing to go the extra mile. "Rhi" one of the bar staff especially always ensures the customers have the best experience they can. I have a special mention to Elliott and Claire who both take their time whilst serving me and ensure my order is correct and completed in a quick fashion.

Nice venue but poor catering. Was brought here for the first time for a drink. The waiter came 3 times to check if "everything is ok" and each time we asked him to bring us one more drink and the told us to go at the bar. Like why even come ask us. Strange.

Came for a meal with my 2 daughters and dog 🐕. Food was great, arrived quickly and was nice,hot and great value for money . Just 1 little fault of some egg shell on the egg but these things happen, and was quickly dealt with. Drinks available a great selection. Staff all friendly and helpful and checked back on us to ask how the food was. However ,unfortunately the other clientele was what really let this place down. A large group of women and children who seemed to join another group of men, was all busy doing shots, drinking excessively and also openly taking drugs in the playground area, while their little darlings were running riot,shouting and swearing at other poor children trying to use the play equipment. There was security in the pub however i didnt feel safe enough to report what was going on. Although this is absolutely no fault of the pub it has of course put me off wanting to return unfortunately.

Been here a few times in the mornings and the same woman has been on. Haven’t been in a while but was annoyed the last time I did. I’ve run bars in the past and do not think it’s very professional for people to be taking personal calls behind the bar. Especially on loudspeaker….and while serving customers. Even when not behind the bar it’s rather rude. It’s a shame because I do like this pub and the food but I feel some staff are a let down. Maybe some refresher training on basic etiquette would improve this place drastically.

A sizeable & modern establishment pocketed between Reading town centre & the outskirts. Wide food offering & plenty of drink deals on offer 👍🏻 Nice friendly staff & also dog friendly. The over 18's section sports a pool table, darts & some large TV screens. Great place.

We had the wake for my stepdads funeral at the Victoria Cross. The buffet was fantastic and extremely good value for money. The staff were very friendly and respectful. We were blown away with the whole experience.

Some staff need better training in customer service. Was being served at the bar the other day and overheard another staff be really rude to a customer. It was the woman with things on her wrists. She was talking to an elderly foreign man and instead of being patient with the language barrier she was basically getting mad at him over his coffee order. If I had been spoken to like that I would’ve lost my temper.

After finding out that our booking hadn’t been taken and we couldn’t be served at another local restaurant, The Victoria Cross stepped in and saved our evening! We (two) went there last Wednesday 29/07 for the full English; quiet at 930 am, very clean and comfortable. We didn’t know we had to order at the bar, but were quite happy to wait, as the interior is so interesting, photographs of Reading many years back, military medals on display, and information about 1914-1918 relating to the local area. The food was fine, very generous portions, with a very modest price tag.

Went for a meal there on a Monday 4th July. Welcomed by Chris, who bounced over from the bar with a huge smile and a great welcome. Once sat down. The Manager greeted us, giving us menus as my phone was flat and my friend did not have his phone. He took the order in the old fashioned way.. manually using his memory. Food looked enticing and was good. Service was excellent. The pub was buzzing and busy. The cleanliness was excellent including the ladies toilets, with lots of hand gel. Well done guys. A great place to meet and eat.

This is such a great place to go for a casual drink and/or meal. My wife and i popped in here on a sunday after coming back from Basingstoke for a quick drink. We found the restaurant to be so clean and modern that we decided to have an early dinner. The food isn't exactly Michelin star but for what you're paying it's great pub grub. The prices of drink and food is great and the staff couldn't be more helpful. Will definitely come back

Came to visit from Leeds as we were going to legoland so was staying in hotel nearby. We booked a table for 6 at 8pm. on arrival we were greeted by a lovely lady who I think was manager, a staff member then asked us to sanitise and showed us to our table. We ordered our food and drink and it came in great time. There was a lady who has just started today she said serving our food and she was great, little nervous but great. There was a little mix up with the sides we had ordered not coming but they sorted it straight away. I would have given a 5 star but the reason why I have not is although the food came very quickly and was delicious the gammon steak was black with grease from the grill which was a little off putting. I did dab it all off with a napkin but it would have been a 5 star had the grill been cleaned before hand. As the saying goes we do eat with our eyes and this wasn't great. Also we got asked if our food was OK when we had all finished eating so couodnt make any reference to the gammon then. The social distancing was great, the signage all perfect and the staff member in a pubsafe top.cleaning was great to see. Beautiful looking pub and was great to see it was packed out and very safe. Well done and I hope to return again one day.

The Victoria across has recently been refurbished and renamed (it was The Trooper Potts). Being newly refurbished the place is clean and has a nice atmosphere. Management has changed along with the refurb and staff are friendly. Beer garden unfortunately looks out onto the car park and busy main road, but in the sun and heat is still a nice place to sit for a drink or two. The food is nice and I often look forward to a chocolate fudge cake and ice cream after my meal!

The food was decent, nothing special. The service of the food was ok, except the lack of roast potatoes on the "classic Sunday roast" which was resolved. Unfortunately the number of staff hiding out back rather than serving leaves the bar very overwhelmed. The 30 min wait for a chocolate fudge cake is a bit on the sloooow side though.

Good solid pub with a huge menu... Look out for the deals on the day... £10 will buy loads of food. Highly recommend the fish platter. Clean all-round and loads of kids areas. If you looking for a cheap meal out for the family definitely worth a try.

Me and my family live in Southampton but have visited relatives in reading twice and both times we had our lunch at trooper Potts.....absolutely loved the place, the meals are delicious and amazing value. The staff were lovely and even when they were extremely busy our meals came out in good time and the service was top notch!!! Great family pub!!!!

I love the value of the food served at hungry horse chains. The restaurant was very large and modern. Food was quick. I ordered the megasaurus which was nice but slightly bristly. 4 stars as nice place, just found the meat to be a bit hard to chew as well as the horrible smell of cigarettes from people in the garden who smoke like chimneys

It's a Hungry Horse so you should pretty much know what you're getting; cheap and cheerful food. I highly recommend getting the App though - you get 20% off the first order and they will bring everything to your table without having to get your lazy bum off your seat. You can also get flavour shots in coke etc which is pretty cool.

Good, basic food menu; reasonably good range of beers at reasonable prices. Friendly staff and clean environment. Family friendly and good quality outdoor seating. The only negative is the Hungry Horse app which could make ordering food and drink a simple process. It doesn't work...at all! So mums with young children and elderly people, who could benefit from table service, have to order at the bar, having first found a table. I know, I know.. it always used to be like that. Yes I get that. But technology offers a better way and their app goes as far as promising that better way. It just fails to deliver. If Wetherspoons can do it seamlessly, why can't Hungry Horse?

staff are over worked, and can't concentrate on taking the right orders, food wasn't great, dressed salad came with 1 piece of tomato few bits of onion on wilted salad leaves, wasn't a side salad was more like a garnish and was covered in some pink sauce! half rack of ribs was tiny, like a rack of chicken ribs, and I was missing my chicken skewer too, which I did finally get, the poor supervisor was exhausted!! really disappointed , was really looking forward to it as had heard great reviews, tbh, the food next door at the bingo is 10x better and cheaper!!

The meal was overall, pretty decent and well cooked, but the real negative at the moment is dealing with downloading and ordering on apps. Utterly ridiculous given that someone still has to serve you, so why not take the order that way?

The food is good and the service is okay. However last time I went there was a half an hour wait for the food and the garlic bread came burnt, they knew it was burnt and sent it anyway with free chips. I sent it back because I did not want to eat burnt food and they replaced my garlic bread. However I still rated this place 4 stars as last time I came here the food came on time and was very good so this experience may have been a one off.

Called in on way home from cinema, my wife and I were looking forward to a 12 oz rump steak we had seen on the website. Unfortunately they didn't have any. We then picked the curry meal deal but they didn't have the Korma my wife wanted. She had tikka masala instead which she said was very tasty. I had the lamb Rogan josh which was also good. The food was good value with a drink included. Staff not very attentive, nobody came to check if everything was ok with the meal and we were not acknowledged when we left.

Good value, large green king pub, family friendly (weekend day times) - separate enclosed room with Bar for over 18s - so that is a nice touch at the weekend when some people come to watch football rugby and others who are with kids are separated.

We paid this place a visit mid week to grab a very quick and a very late lunch (it was little after 2.30pm). The good things first. Ample parking space outside. The place looks great given that it's fairly new. The layout is quite pleasing with both indoor and outdoor seating. The staff was very helpful and on our request they brought out the food extra quickly. For this, we were very grateful. The menu offered reasonable fare and was prices ok. The order of sweet and sour salmon - turned out to be stale. And the other item with piri-piri chicken sauce turned out to be good looking but sour (?). In any case, we did not have time to complain so we finished and left quickly. However, I will try again before making up my mind about this place. For now, it's 50-50.

Not bad, not the best. The Trooper Potts is a hungery horse pub based in the Midst of a retail park, there is a reasonable sized out door area overlooked by the car park and main entrance. To the side is Aldi. Good staff and service however the food was not great as I would have expected.. (having worked previously with the company) Dry chicken and dry shriveled mushrooms came with my dinner and the griddle needed to be cleaned. The BBQ sauce with the new Yorker was a drizzle and the staff supplied some more could dispenser sause. Don't get me wrong the food was okay just not up to scratch. For parents there is a small and lacking play area, this consists of a small side, a monkey rope and small frame which for its size is suited to 8yrs plus. The building and furniture was is good condition and the prices were good. I cant say anything for behind the scenes or kitchen area as I didn't look or see. But good front of house for a busy public house. Marked down for food portions and quality wasn't spot on and due to play area being not suited for most children. Previously a manager and chef trainer for the company (and others). Worth going? Yes.

We called in on Saturday with a 62 seater coach. We had pre-booked. We all had a cooked breakfast which was excellent. The chef did a wonderful job of catering for us. We stayed for 2hrs and all that travelled with us had nothing but praise for the way we were looked after! The staff were outstanding, very friendly and helpful. The portion of sauce you get as an extra is terribly small for the price... and they usually make a mistake whenever we go with the food order but it is sorted fairly quickly, it is clean, staff are polite and other than the extra sauces, it is good value for the money.

Great location. Close to the main A33 and near junction 11 of the M4. Lots of parking. Right next to a 24 hour gym, Aldi and a Morrison's. The food is good. And they have a great wide choice of snacks and meals. The price is fantastic. So much seating area, even on busy days you'll find a seat. Large upstairs seating for large groups and parties. I've seen a party of 30+ there before without a problem. Great family atmosphere. And there is a separated pub only area for regulars that just want to hang out and watch football etc. A lot of you machines for the kids. Plus my child's favourite. A claw machine that you win everytime. 3 booths that seat 4 adults or 6 at a squeeze. These have tvs playing children's programmes to entertain the young ones. (Note. If Adults only. Please don't sit here on your own without kids. The times I've turned up with my family and children to find the booths taken by a couple or 4 adults, not interested in the tv. So my children get all excited about eating out just to find the booths taken by inconsiderate adults.) Lately Customer service is great to. Twice my child was bought a meal so over cooked, I had another bought out and a refund given without even asking for it.i recommend here to everyone.

I ordered the 20oz steak which came with fries, three onion rings, mushroom and tomato. The steak was medium and it was hard to chew the outer layer as it was quite hard. The oil from the steak leaked into the fries and onion rings which made it soggy. But all in all it was good. Chocolate fudge cake was the best but just make sure you order one scoop of extra ice cream. ^_^
