A. G.Came for the music and expected your usual pub grub but was completely amazed on the quality provided. Yes it's a bit rough around the edges, but that's all part of its charm. Two Santana covers in one night gives it 5 stars anyway. Go for the music but be amazed by the food

A. D.Very friendly place with th live music most nights. There is a separate dining area and the main drinking area is comfortable and spacious. They have specials on beer ale and food most days as well as the usual assortment of pub food and drink.
I was able to take my dog and there was water for her. There is a small seating area outside to smoke as well. Recommend for a date, nice meal or just some relaxing music and a beer.

L. M.Wow! Not only is the pub/ restaurant authentic. The staff were first class. BUT the food… not expecting the food to be of such quality as priced well. But I’ll be going back as the food was totally amazing. To have such an amazing dinning experience with a cost affordable yet outstanding. I’m coming back. And telling my friends. The rather tall guy ( ? In charge) seemed just to be flowing in his job. And for me I see it’s not a job as such but a vocation. Wonderful experience will be back.

D. L.Headed to the platform tavern for our wedding anniversary. It's a pub with great atmosphere, more of an old school pub. Had a great meal, good choice of food and reasonable prices. The chocolate brownie sundae was enormous even 2 of us struggled. All washed down with a triple bill of acoustic music.

We sat away from the bar and had a roast dinner, but because of the layout we were still able to enjoy the live blues. All in all this a ‘must visit’ place when in Southampton.
G. R.Amazing pub ! Food is INCREDIBLE. Catering staff and bar staff were very clued up on allergies, the menu offers a variety of homely, hot and cold foods, exciting dishes you may otherwise not try. The pub has a huge historical value for the city and it maintains its features, stone and wood. The decor is marvelously charming and puts a smile on your face. Musicians perform here and it's a fantastic small music venue for a Intamate sets crowd.
l. b.Went in last night after we tried the Dancing Man but it was ridiculously busy. Wandered down to the Platform which I frequent from time to time and couldn't believe how quiet it was. So our get together was in full flow as were the beers and with L Z blaring out it was a fantastic 2 hours. Well done Platform and all the staff who looked after us with table service!!!

V. P.Lovely little pub located right on a main road but don't let that deter you. They have a great range of bottled and draught beers and ciders that aren't found in many places. The pub itself is somewhat quirky inside, but only in the best way. They have a great fresh seafood selection, changed daily, quite literally catch of the day, and with live music once or twice a week it's a great little boozer.

They had rim but not Bacardi and vodka but not Smirnoff.The music was excellent, but the bar staff were miserable, didn't make you feel welcome; not a smile between them. £40 a round.Not too bad.
S. S.Went here to see Pot Kettle Black, great music venue with a superb atmosphere. The pub is quaint, lots of art on the walls and decor looks Australian aboriginal. Food looks good from what I saw, we didn't eat there, also a good selection of ale. No parking but a council car park around the corner for £2, only 3 minutes walk.
I. F.A great hidden gem in Southampton only 10min walking from the high street. A must when in the city. Food is great with a good choice of drinks. Live bands and singers play most weekends giving the Tavern great atmosphere.
A. G.Visited on a Tues afternoon in November and understandably, it wasn’t busy though there were some sat eating.
It’s situated on a busy road opposite the IOW ferry, there is parking nearby but all parking meters charge you at a premium rate. During the summer you can sit out on the wide pavement and watch the traffic!
Inside it’s a little dark, plenty of seating & tables, and it looks like they have live music too.
Food was good and the historic items on the walls are interesting. Definitely worth a visit.
G. J.What a surprise find... had low expectations of food as came for live music but it was excellent and all home cooked. Portions were absokutely massive so ensure you are hungry! Service was the best I have experienced in a long time..despite busy Friday crowds. Sarah Harrison band great..what a voice. Highly recommended.

C. S.popped in for Sunday lunch. There was a bit of a wait for anyone to come and take our order (I had to ask) and a delay for the food but I half expected that. The food was delicious, portions were just the right size and tasted great.
they also have a good selection of real ale made by the Dancing Man Brewery which is their own in-house brewery.

Good luve musice some nights and outside seating at the front to watch the world go by.
And to top it off dog friendly inside and outside with water bowls for the 4 logged friends inside.
One of the best pubs I've been to in Southampton by a long way
S. B.A somewhat quirky pub with a great atmosphere, and good food. Our 'party' turned up in dribs and drabs, and ordered food separately at different times which caused a little confusion over who had ordered which meal (all our fault). The staff were brilliantly helpful in sorting things out.

K. H.There's quite literally no other pub like this in Southampton city centre. I hadn't been here for years but it was a pleasant surprise to find the same easy going laid-back atmosphere, and ultra friendly service when i went for a Sunday roast. There's still live music most days and a fire going on cold days. In fact, the more i think about it, the leather sofa by the hearth looked suspiciously familiar..... probably the same old friend I used to relax into twenty years ago. In an age where everything is wide open spaces, soulless and impersonal, it's refreshing to find a cosy pub where the barman positively encourages conversation and intimate ambience allows unrelated groups to chat.
But what mainly caused me to post this review was the fantastic roast dinner i had. When all other pubs within the centre of town resolutely refuse to serve roasts after a 5 o'clock deadline, and Witherspoons just won't do, it looked bleak until a quick search produced the platform tavern which serves a range of sunday roast options until 11 (** check **) or the food has run out.
Maybe I was starving hungry, maybe the double gin and tonic i ordered as soon as i entered affected me more than I care to admit, or maybe it was simply because the dishes are carefully thought out and the food well cooked, but I was absolutely blown away. Wow. Mmmmmm..... Quite simply, this was THE BEST Sunday roast I've had in some time (and I regularly eat at the red lion the well-known roast benchmark, at least before 5pm) and the serving was a decent size and they don't skimp on gravy - two of my 5 personal requirements of a good roast. Every plate gets a Yorkshire pud and alongside the crispy well-roasted potatoes the different veg served included cauliflower cheese. Yes, you heard me, the veg served includes cauliflower cheese. Could just be me actually, but doesn't everyone like (no! NEED!) a good Yorkshire pudding? And after well cooked, moist, tender meat, doesnt everyone want variety in the vegetables? Ok, just me then....
That roast dinner was exactly how I like it. I've had other dishes there which were excellent but that was years ago, this is the first food I've had recently and the standard is still superb. You do pay for it though, and it's at the higher end of pub roast prices (in my limited experience) but certainly far cheaper than at a restaurant. But at 12/13 pound it was worth every penny and possibly the best value for money right now in Southampton

E. T.Would give this place a 5 star rating but that would be a perfect rating and no matter how good a place is, nothing is perfect. Great service, great staff, not sure about the prices as it was the first time I'd used the British pound (I use the Australian dollar) so couldn't say whether drink and meal prices were fair or not - spent about 80 pounds in one night. Main reason for visit to Southampton was for its connection to the history of the Titanic (been something of an obsession since I read the book A Night To Remember and later bought the film on DVD). However, in all the excitement, I never got around to asking the staff at this great pub what they might have known about the connection of this pub with the Titanic, if there was any at all.

The pub offers a varied selection of music events and I have always been impressed by the music playing when visiting. This pub ticks all my boxes for a day time or evening visit but be warned it can get crowded in the evening as it is so popular.
