Reviews of Rising Sun
S. P.
Really cool pub. Vibrant downstairs, tranquil upstairs. Great views across Hamble Marina out to Southampton Water. Three Greene King cask ales, and the typical Greene King menu which is rather heavy on meat and stodge, but amongst the small print a reasonably healthy and environmentally friendly plant based meal can be extracted. I like Greene King beers, but I do tend to despair of their menus. From Hungry Horse up to Chef & Brewer, the focus on chips, cheese, and meat is not encouraging or exciting in this day and age. However, the menus are popular and bring in a profit, so why should Greene King care? That said, the food is generally as you'd expect from that sort of menu - comforting rather than connoisseur. Food that people are not going to complain about, as it is often what we get at home, but presented more attractively. Our food was presented attractively, tasted nice, and was satisfying. Our waitress, Sarah, was attentive, pleasant, and did everything required, even though the upstairs room was almost full. We didn't wait long for anything - drinks, food, confirmation that everything was OK, and the bill, arrived promptly and with the ghost of a smile. Decent lunch time meal for two with drinks came to less than £30 in well run, comfortable surroundings in a room with possibly the best views in the area. Anyone coming here, provided they accept the limitations of the menu (and I totally do - The Greene King name is clearly displayed outside, so you know what you're getting), are not going to be disappointed.
Quibbles? Yes. Two. On arriving at the pub we had to pass two smokers by the porch. We were forced to breathe in the toxins from their cigarette smoke, and endure the smell on our clothes. Smokers should be encouraged to stand well away from entrances when smoking. We, along with another party who had booked, were directed upstairs where someone would show us to our tables. Sadly there was nobody upstairs, and we all had to stand aimlessly waiting for someone to turn up and tell us where our tables were.
Do these quibbles really matter? Yes and no. Smokers seem to stand at the entrance to most pubs, and few pubs seem to have the will to insist that smokers stand away from the entrance. It matters, but the problem, to be fair, is not unique to the Rising Sun. And that the upstairs waitress was not available at that particular moment is not something the pub should be damned for. It happens. But perhaps a little thought, like having clearer table numbers so people can find their tables themselves at busy times, would be useful.
OK. Quibbles aside, this is one of the best pubs in the Southampton area, and if you've not been is well worth seeking out. There is a public car park right in front of the pub.

No music so able to have a conversation. Had lunch on Saturday, it was packed, but didn't have to wait long. Had steak pie mash veg and gravy. Huge pie, lovely pastry. Mash very tasty. Even enjoyed the cabbage which I don't usually like. Wonderful. Would come again.
I. P.
The regular Green King beer selection, menu has a varied choice - food was well presented and tasty. The waiting team were very welcoming, friendly and only to happy to help as were the bar staff. Excellent views over the harbour from the upstairs tables to watch the comings and goings of the world.
D. M.
Lovely pub in great location. Brilliant walks along the nearby national trail.
A. D.
Great food. Fun pub culture. Dog and baby friendly. Take away was great too! Watch the sunset with a pint and buy local seafood from the dock across the street on Friday and Saturday
C. S.
A wonderful watering hole at the end of our coastal walk. Really bright & cosy after a breezy walk. Plenty of choice on the menu, would recommend the steak sandwich. Really friendly waiting staff, and it wasn't long after we ordered that our delicious lunch arrived.
S. S.
If you DON'T like sports, men with childish tattoos and snot nosed kids, go here. If you DO like all that, go up the road to the Silver Fern
K. T.
OK as far as pub food goes. Was very busy and food took nearly an hour to arrive from ordering. Beef was over cooked for my liking when advertised on the menu as served pink. Green King seems to have some new policy on providing allergy information which made it difficult to cater for my wife.
F. E.
My first time going to this pub, it's a Greene King, the aesthetic of the place is really nice, the food is super good and the staff are lovely! Would love to come back again for sure 😊
N. H.
Amazing view and amazing food very friendly staff.
S. P.
Unfortunately the management let them down! We just wanted the one quick drink whilst the sun went down but we hadn't booked a table! Everything seemed too much of a bother but finally we were given a table in the middle of the pub even though there were window seats that were available for another hour from the reserved time. Josh was very understanding and explained that the pub was now only a restaurant so we had to book a table. He did however manage to get us a window seat that was actually available the whole night - we still only stayed about 20 minutes. Thank you for your kindness and explaining the situation Josh!

Beautiful food, service and place. Highly recommend. Staff were very friendly and couldnt do enough for us. Thank you we will definitely visit again 😊

Haven’t been here for a while.
Excellent!! Lovely brekkie and really friendly, helpful staff who kept it warm for us while we got some fresh seafood outside from the fish van.
Thank you 👍🏼

First time visiting for a family meal. Beautiful food and friendly staff who couldn't do enough. Lovely sunset setting over the harbour too!!
L. C.
Had a lovely roast fast friendly service. Food was very tasty arrived lovely and hot would highly recommend. Lovely views over the Hamble river
S. T. S.
A great pub in a fantastic location . Good Beers & food . Also good idea plastic glasses so you can sir outside on sea wall. Highly recommend coming here.
C. C.
Fab night out with my work colleagues. Absolutely amazed about the dumb waiter. Blew my mind. Shout out to the people in the celler/dungeon who put together delicious meals in candle light like Charles dickend.
M. H.
Not much atmosphere, food when they got it right was good but didn't get my wife's right which was the easiest one! Fair play though, they offered to replace and fully refunded
A. W.
Staff were friendly and helpful. Brunch was amazing and the views are fantastic. Highly recommend everything about The Rising Sun.

*** We have been a number of times over the last year and each time it has been great friendly service. Highly recommended ***
Visited today for the first time and was very impressed. We were greated as soon as we got to the door and shown to our table straight away. Staff were friendly, polite and helpful. Food was very good and very reasonable priced. It felt very welcoming and very chilled out. The waitress who served us was very polite and helpful and never made us feel rushed. Great view of the River Hamble from the pub. Will visit again soon.
N. F.
Great pub on the edge of the Hamble estuary. Been here a while and the food is not bad. Good for coastal walkers and driving drop ins.
M. W.
We visited on a very busy Sunday lunchtime, the staff were attentive, friendly and accommodating. There is a fair selection of beers to choose from.
The menu is well balanced. We had a couple of vegan options to choose from which was nice.
H. O.
Been to the Rising Sun fir food a few times recently and each time has been lively. Great setting. Upstairs has particularly nice views although the stairs may not suit everyone.
I. S.
Food tasted really good, and at a very reasonable price, lots to choose from on the menu you are spoilt for choice. We sat upstairs near the window looking at the river. Great food and good views.
J. C.
Had a lovely lunch yesterday, the only reason I’ve given four stars instead of five was because the sea bass risotto wasn’t available, two of our group particularly wanted it so were disappointed, even so everything else was lovely, in particular my slow cooked lamb. looking forward to returning in February
R. O.
Went here for a family event. Staff were very helpful and friendly while dealing with my large and chaotic family. The food was generally great. The turkey dinner was a bit of a letdown, which was a pity, but the other options on the festive menu were very well received.
Lovely location.
S. C.
Had a nice meal with my parents , service was excellent . The day before the chimney came down
P. H.
Had an absolute banger of a roast here today. Great food, wine and atmosphere. Staff are really friendly too.
R. H.
Had a meal with friends. We sat around the circular table in the upstairs turret window. Great views across the mouth of the Hamble and the Calshot end of Southampton Water. I love to see the ships toing and froing.Very happy with the food and the service. And the real ale, of course.
G.
Popular boozer with the locals. Good range of draught ales as well as the standard Greene King offering of keg beers, ciders, lagers and stout. Extensive food choice including a specials menu on a Sunday offering a range of roasts. But I really recommend the Sea Bass and Scallop risotto: 😋
Complimentary WiFi. Wheelchair accessible. Disabled toilet. Dog friendly - but dogs must be kept on a lead when in the bar.
Look for the plaque outside which commemorates the embarkation of 3000 SAS, British and French Commando Companies on the evening of 05 June 1944 bound for the shores of Normandy.
R. H.
Excellent service.Warm atmosphere. Tasty food. Pleasant view.

Food was delicious.
The wait was a while, however the food is cooked fresh so you can expect it.
We visited on a Tuesday afternoon and it was busy. Accommodating in terms of disabled access.
I would suggest booking where possible for a window seat so you can overlook the harbour. If you are able they also have upstairs!
I had the 'sea bass ×2' and 'scallop' onptop of 'prawn and pea risotto'....abosolutly wonderful!
Watered down with a Sauvignon blanc!
Nan had Prawn Cocktail ( they had run out of pototatoes for jackets) which was generous and delicious!
We shared a Apple and blackcurrant crumble with icecream.....yum.
V. S.
We went there for a drink. We do go there for lunchtime food which good but we did not this time. There is parking on the shore byFBC there is a charge of £1 an hour. If you use it regualy you can have a season ticket which you can get from Fareham Borough Council
A. L.
A lovely location so well worth visiting. The food is good pub grub.
S. M.
Great evening, food amazing, staff friendly, location perfect.

Went for a walk along the Hamble.,and stopped for our lunch.nice meal and a good pint.Saff friendly.
C. C.
Ok if you remember to book a table and go out for a meal however if you just fancy a beer and wonder in then you feel a bit in the way.
L. 1.
I took my daughter here this evening for dinner, a half term treat (we do often pop in) this place is always great! Since Gary and sharron have taken over its been even better! The food is incredible and the service is just as good! Thank you to everyone (wish I knew all your names) Lauren you are amazing as always just like the rest of the staff. Can't wait to come back again soon xx
P. S.
Nice view, proper pub food, great service, great for a casual lunch with friends!
S. T.
Always a nice experience nice food then walked off lunch along the river
V. Y.
Thank you folk at 'The Riser'. What a change from an unfortunate visit a few years ago. This time the food was excellent and the staff couldn't have been more helpful and pleasant, despite having to labour up and down stairs to attend to us. I have a hearing problem in a restaurant environment and when I booked I asked for a quiet area if possible, and they didn't forget. Top marks to you all. Will definitely visit again.
n. p.
Always loved this place as I grew up over here good to see plastic cup to take your drink out on the water front ..nice scooter run over from gosport
T. L.
The Rising Sun hosted an important family Birthday celebration this weekend. Thank you to all of the staff for making it a great event. The food was excellent, but the portions are much too large.
M. H.
Good food and ale, fair prices and decent service with a view of the river thrown in...well worth a visit.
J.
Friendly local pub by the water in the Warsash area of Southampton. A large mixed menu with a variety of beers. Worth a visit and a stroll once done.
D. W.
Lovely pub lovely atmosphere, didn't eat but food looked lovely
J. G.
We arrived just before 9pm on a bank holiday weekend, not fancying our chances of finding a nice place to eat, and more or less resigned to a long drive home via Mcdonalds. So, imagine our delight to find The Rising Sun, not only a great pub, in a fabulous position but one with exceptional staff who couldn't have been more welcoming. We were shown to the best seats in the house, a circular table with a 240 degree view of the sunset over the marina to enjoy whilst devouring a delicious supper. Even the shared pud with two spoons was served with a smile. Quality staff who excelled at great customer service and food was tasty and well presented too. Would definitely recommend without hesitation
S. F. (.
Great pub lovely atmosphere food was extremely good. Also great view of Hamble river. Staff are really friendly and Gary does a great quiz on a Monday
P. B. (.
Nice view and good food at reasonable prices.
F. F.
Had a wonderful breakfast here this morning. Very tasty and good produce. It has been over a couple of years since here last and a big change . Sophie fantastic she looked after us so well.
P. P.
Great pub, very friendly staff, perfect location.
Really enjoyed the avocado on toast and bacon rolls .
H. W.
Great food choice especially for vegetarians. Nice location
Y. P.
Good food. Fair prices. Friendly staff.
K. F.
A pub right on the Hamble. Car park across from the pub (free after 6pm), so go and buy a pint and sit and enjoy the Quay and watch the sailing boats sail by. The food was really nice, lots to choose from Fish, meat to vegetarian and Vegan. Sorry, no photo I was too hungry( needed to eat). Check on-line to see an up-to-date menu.
D. R.
Just popped in for a quick snifter!.Excellent as always, always a nice warm welcome.
J. D.
Just out walking the dog, nipped in for a bite to eat and a few drinks. All the staff on duty were very professional and accommodating.
These guys are a credit to your team. Keep up the good work.
James and Dog Bobby x

Always liked the Rising Sun. However, on this visit, the queuing system made it particularly unwelcoming. A school canteen vibe and calls for move on.
N. P.
Fantastic location for a meal. We sat on the slip way with a drink whilst waiting for our table. The food was good as you get at a Greene King but the service stood out. Really friendly. Would definitely visit again when we are in the area.
M. P.
Great pub now refurbished and under new management.
Super location overlooking river.
Friendly staff good selection of beers and food.
G. P.
Had Sunday lunch here. Food was excellent and, even though it was quite busy, service was quick and friendly. Bit of a shame that the white americano coffee after the meal was just a cup of instant coffee but it won't stop me going back.
I. S.
First time here and this place was recommended by my good friend.
Very friendly staff, very chilled atmosphere, ambient lighting in the evening, no carpets 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Dog friendly, very responsive, clean glass wear and in general appeared very tidy
Coming back
A. D.
Nice friendly place, great location. Nice food. Nice to sit outside in the lovely weather.
M. W.
Went for a Christmas Eve meal with the family and everyone had a great time. The food is good, but a little rough round the edges in places (for example kid's garlic breads were both burnt). However, they catered for my other half, who is a coeliac, brilliantly and without any fuss. The service is also great, and the people all very friendly - we will definitely be visiting again.
B. F.
Friendly atmosphere good food great location, no free WiFi though
E. H.
Very pleasant and very friendly staff and good view over the boats and the food was very good
M. P.
Nice little pub, shame no garden so you have to sit outside opposite on small quay
F. W.
Great meal and very nice staff.
C. P.
Greene King pub, lovely location and great views of the river Hamble
E. T.
Staff are very friendly and helpful.
Food is awful.
M. M.
Great value food, nice views
I. J.
Great pub and good food with excellent views of the solent and historic point for ww2 d day!
R. H.
The location is lovely. The food was cheap but not of a great quality.
Two slices of meat for a Sunday roast, cabbage that may have been cooked on Saturday, overcooked carrots from a catering service pack.
The Hunter Chicken, more a Hunters chick in size. Looked pre cooked chicken with a small handful of cheese and BBQ sa put in the oven for a couple of minutes.
Fair does, roast potatoes were good.
Always concerning when food arrives too quickly. Little effort or care in its production.
S. B.
Pub beautifly clean. Served by Josh who was very attentive and polite. Food very nice. Great atmosphere booked to go again next week
M. F.
Nice pub in a great location. Staff were attentive and friendly and the food was good. Would definitely go there again.
P. R.
Staff very friendly, nice and clean. Pity we were there when other customers were having an argument with each other. They should have been asked to leave.
But didn't spoil the enjoyment of our meal.
E. A. C.
Was not, in fact, located in New Orleans. I feel lied to.
D. W.
This pub is right on the river front you can't get any nearer. There is also a car park right next to it. Food and service were very good with all the staff being very helpful and friendly explaining the covid measures in place. I had The Greene King IPA which was very nice and it went very well with the Atlantic Cod Signature dish. If in the area worth a look bearing in mind you need to book as it doe get busy and you have to comply with the covid measures.
T. T.
Nice pub, food average but nice enough, friendly staff, and a lovely location near the river where you can take a drink and enjoy the views.
G. H.
Came in on Friday 11th December. I had a wonderful dinner with my Family greeted warmly by the duty manager and he took the time to explain what he called the pub safe promise and the government tier restriction. Felt very safe. Had a great meal. Id like to thank the team especially as i have had bad experiences recently.
R. G.
Very good pint of Guinness and food was good 👍
f. h.
Saturday had chicken and mushroom pie with veg and chips,an excellent meal. Booked for Sunday lunch, what a disappointment Beef tough vegetables half cooked, not what we were expecting.
K. P.
Came here for a quiz night, very busy but the staff coped admirably.
Food was good and hot beer was welcoming and cold what more can you say, oh and the views are nice too.
R. E.
The decor and food are quite nice. Views of the water are excellent from the second level, harder to enjoy from the more crowded first level.
There is a convenient parking lot nearby next to a memorial and it is very walkable.
Had a pretty good salmon Florentine for dinner, impressed that it wasn't overcooked and that it was flavorful.
Would have given five stars but after bringing out the starters very quickly the kitchen was very slow bringing out our main dishes.
G. A.
Popped in on Saturday lunch didn't have a table booked wasn't a problem. I was reluctant as pre covid food wasn't good but I am happy to be proved wrong service was fantastic and so was the food try the open sandwich delicious!
S. P.
Lovely pub, really friendly and in a great location.
P. A.
Excellent, friendly staff and good pub style cooking.
K. J.
Great pitstop for a dog walk. Friendly and accommodating staff.

Lovely pub with one of the best views 👌
S. P.
Lovely pub. Great food and wide menu choice at very reasonable prices. Very pleasant staff.
N. H.
Friendly staff with good, reasonably priced food
R. C.
The food is very nice and the service is great

Visited today had a wonderful Sunday Lunch, the bar staff were very friendly. The manager out in the restaurant with the blonde hair unfortunately I didn't get his name was very polite and attentive when he checked on how we were doing the pub looks fantastic and the team have really worked hard to keep it going until the new management came in. Who from I could see are friendly and keeping up the trend.
K. B.
Hats off to the Management and team at the Rising Sun for creating a Covid 19 safe pub, whilst still keeping a friendly atmosphere.
Excellent table service, the young lady was helpful and friendly making sure we had everything we needed. Nothing was too much trouble.
Cheers all 🍻
B. S.
Food tastes amazing. Nothings too much for the staff. The views are spot on. All round brilliant place! More of a bar down stairs but upstairs is so chilled.
J. G.
Excellent food, great service
L. S.
Absolutely lovely 3 course meal, good friendly service, well looked after by the staff.
P. B.
We were told we could have a table upstairs by the windows over looking the marina when we booked over a week ago, but on arrival they tried to sit us in a corner downstairs. After insisting we had booked an upstairs table we were eventually moved.
The menu was missing the mains we had been looking forward to even though we had been told while booking that their deliveries were due on the day we had booked.
It really is a shame as we used to love this place but over the last year and because of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme, this place seems to have really gone down hill 😢
D. E.
Good food and service. Lovely views of River Hamble. Recommended.
A. A.
Good location 👌 on the waters edge ,parking is tight outside but there is another car park around the corner. Food is good staff are great I advise to book early as on a good day this place gets busy 😀
S. B.
We came here due to another pub , not so far away, informing us we could not bring our children in, their loss our gain. What a fabulous pub, staff are really friendly and most helpful, lovely atmosphere in the pub. The food is amazing and freshly cooked. Cannot recommend this pub highly enough, wish we could come back more often. Keep up the good work and thank you for your hospitality.
P. B.
Made us very welcome. Great food, relaxed atmosphere. Altogether a lovely place to have a meal.
J. B.
Great place to come for a drink during the summer. Lovely views over the river Hamble if you get a window seat, even better if you take your beer outside, although that does mean putting up with a plastic glass 😪, but on the plus side you get to watch people trying to launch and recover boats on the slipway, very amusing at times. They have a good menu at good prices and generally good nosh! Although the portion size isn't particularly generous 😶
T. G.
I used to loathe this pub. It used to be manky and of poor quality. The staff were rubbish, the food was terrible and I used to avoid it like the plague. Now it has new owners and had a face-lift. Its a lovely place to drink and eat now. The staff have a bit more of a spring in their step and its much more welcoming as a result . I have found myself in there a lot more now because of the recent improvements.
D. B.
Great pub, good service,
M. G.
Went to the Rising Sun for dinner and a couple of beers. Sat upstairs as it was quite crowded near the bar. Food was very good and reasonably priced. I had the fish and chips. Well cooked and a very generous portion.
Friendly, helpful and efficient staff.
R. B.
Lovely little pub, ideal break during a walk from burseldon.
Lovely food, quick friendly service.
A. K.
Delicious food but unhappy that a customer was seated on the next table to ours when the pub was half empty. The customer proceeded to put his face mask on our table!
When I told the barmaid, she said it was COVID safe, checked by the council!!
S. W.
Lovely food and staff and great views over the solent
m. b.
Great location to eat drink and relax after a good walk.
J. J.
Lovely food, great service, very friendly staff
B. K.
This pub has become my wife and my local.
We dine here as a couple and with friends, who have all commented on the excellent food and service.
A special mention to Lauren, who is the epitome of Good, helpful and polite service.
Nothing is too much trouble and she's the reason we keep coming back as a couple and with our friends.
Lovely location, brilliant food and excellent staff.
K. F.
Great service, yummy food. The seating wasn't popular as it was these high chairs. Many commented about it and sought out normal sized chairs. We were asked twice if our meal was ok and staff were very happy and polite. Luckily we found Normal seating.
S. B.
We had an amazing meal for my sons birthday, staff were fantastic and we felt completely safe and relaxed knowing that they were all trying to keep everyone safe, whilst not impacting to much on the ambience of the Rising Sun and more importantly enjoying our lovely meal. Thank you 😀
J. H.
Food not great, staff ok!
C. B.
Been here three times now with my boyfriend and every time the service and food has been outstanding. The food is delicious and very generous portions and the prices are insane for what you get. Would highly recommend this pub to anyone especially for a Sunday roast! Lauren was our server every time and she’s always been so attentive and friendly.
J. J.
Nice location, good pub food
S. G.
Lovely views staff & food 👌
C. B.
Great place, but the portion sizes were not good at all. Out of our group of 14 one person asked for more vegetables. Only to be told they would have to pay for another portion. Considering how much they were making so much from the group, that was really tight. If veg was expensive I would of understood. I had the beef and pork roast, the 2 slices of meat were the size of a credit card. And as thin!. I for one would never go back.
k. m.
Lovely place amazing food. We only go when we visit friends down here but we always go here for a meal and are never disappointed.
I. L.
Visited Wednesday Dinner, on the off chance of some food. Really glad we made the journey out. Food 5*, Service 5* Cleanliness 5* and its nice to see that Greene King and the site are taken Covid 19 seriously.
L. J.
This is a lovely pub near a beach on the sea front. We went out for drinks for a friend’s birthday. It is quite expensive for a local pub and they don’t do any cocktails. But nice atmosphere and great food.
K. S.
Nice place with a view over the sailboat harbour. We sat on the second floor and had a nice view eating classic pub food. They were out of a couple of the options on the menu which the staff didn't know. The food we got was really good though and I can strongly recommend the Luxury mac & cheese.
I. E.
Happy with it and nice to get the ferry over
A. S.
For such a popular place its a shame that the bar is always really slow to get served and the food is never that good.
It always seems to be mass produced food that has been left under a light for far to long. This year alone 3 out of 4 meals have been returned to the kitchen.
Its a shame really as the place has great views and so much potential. Nothing a bit of an eye to detail and a good process couldn't sort out.
T. S.
Has had a bit of a refit. Very busy with locals on a Friday night. Restaurant upstairs was full which wasn't a problem as they do food downstairs, just had to order at the bar. Food reasonably priced pub grub.
D. C.
We visit here often for an evening meal. The quality and prices are of an acceptable standard as you would expect from a Green King Pub. The waiting staff are always welcoming. Excellent views of the marinas and Hamble river entrance.
L. R.
A lovely dog friendly afternoon at the Rising Sun. Fab food, drinks and service from our waitress Leah. Can't wait to come back!
K. A.
The food was good. The only downside we found was when we went back to order our Pudding as it was supposed to be free (according to the sign on the wall for a Monday) we were then informed we should have paid for puddings when dinner is ordered in order to get it free. Quite misleading since that is not how it reads on the notices on the wall

Food is average but good value. Atmosphere is usually good at this pub and it has a local feel. Dogs are a plenty and the pubs tatty decor adds to the homely feeling.
Beer selection is rubbish though and smoking area is shockingly bad. Great views out the front though.
S. A.
Had an awkward booking request and they managed re arrange everything to be able to fulfil my request. I enjoyed my food, standard green King pub food.
J.
Good food, good prices, nice atmosphere.
D. S.
Great food and atmosphere as always
R. M.
I have just been on holiday in the area & was pleased to find the pub to be right on my doorstep. The food was excellent & value for money. The staff were very friendly & helpful especially Lauren who was our waitress most nights. Highly recommended we will definitely be going back.
C. S.
Should be a lovely pub/restaurant. But is let down a lot by the inexperienced staff. I watched one girl half lay a table then walk off and there was no staff upstairs at all for a good 15 minutes. Had to find our own menu's so did the table next to us and that evening wasn't even busy. One staff lad was a bit over the top telling people to smile (after we had to wait) and waffling on instead of taking the orders.
M. H.
Pricey, but good food and a wonderful view (on a clear day).
M. H.
Well organised with virus regulations. Staff very helpful, kind and efficient. Only had coffee which was excellent. Next time I visit will have mea The food looked very good.l
E. D.
The staff were courteous and friendly. The pub was clean and social distancing rules were applied. Location is lovely. Food was of average quality.
T. D.
Service and everything was great and so was food! It was just freezing
j. s.
Great pub to stop at if your paddling on the river Hamble
J. H.
I did not enter the pub so cannot review . I was on my scooter to rest and chill at the waterside . The pub looks ok on the outside
J. W.
Good service, good food and a nicely refurbished place. Glad we returned after a long break.
A. D.
Fantastic pub with great food and excellent service, with amazing views accross the water to Hamble
S. A.
Had an awkward booking request and they managed re arrange everything to be able to fulfil my request. I enjoyed my food, standard green King pub food.
J. L.
The team here are amazing and the service is top notch
D. W.
Great pub, food and atmosphere
H. W.
Really helpful staff
B. S.
Food tastes amazing. Nothings too much for the staff. The views are spot on. All round brilliant place! More of a bar down stairs but upstairs is so chilled.
P. M.
Food was good with a good menu, however, it took a long time for the mains to arrive.
J. W.
A lovely position overlooking Southampton water, the food and service was very good. Handy parking very nearby. Friendly atmosphere.
T. E.
Good food served quickly when we were in need of sustenance having come off the water.
R. J.
Standard pub, great location views over the Hamble. Plenty of room upstairs with big picture windows. Reasonable beers and food, good prices. Open space outside to sit on sunny day.
D. B.
Food quite good. Service friendly and with good intentions, although not particularly attentive. Good location and on a sunny day would have a fabulous view. Be aware they allow dogs in the eating area (minus stars for this).
I. D.
Good reasonably-priced food and beer, attentive staff, nice view of the harbour, thanks!
G. P.
Very good food, excellent staff.
P. A.
Really great meal and very helpful staff
R. B. (.
Staff were good, but it took a ridiculously long time to have our food order taken and it took over 30mins to deliver 1 scoop of ice cream.
The food was nice.
S. J.
Come here a few times a year to eat, sometimes bfing our grandchildren. The service is always good even when very busy. The menu is varied and the prices moderate. If sitting upstairs the view over the water isa nice change.
l. J.
Lovely Green King pub on the water at Warsash. Pay public car park opposite.
S. W.
Great service, perfect food and huge portions. Also great social distancing and hygiene along with prompt service. Will see definitely be back 👍
R. J.
Polite and welcoming staff. Excellent service
S. G.
Good selection on the food menu, staff helpful and attentive. We had a nice meal. Lovely location especially in the summer although it does get busy
R. H.
Good pints of Abbot ale pleasant staff on a return visit. (last visit was in the 70's!). On a (final?) visit to the the School of Navigation Warsash. Had some fun here in those days. The yard of ale, the car trials, the flooding car park and that barmaid... Forgotten her name now... Happy days.!
J. S.
We really enjoyed a delicious Sunday Roast yesterday all served safely to COVID-19 regulations.
Well done and thank you to the Rising Sun team.
S. B.
Recently refurbished and with new landlords. Looks great! Very warm and friendly pub in a fab location. Good food too.
J. W.
Really enjoyable meal. Setting is great over looking the Solent. Reasonable prices and good choice of food and drinks. Car park outside is free. Always been busy when we've gone but if you're prepared to be patient then it's worth the wait.
H. L.
Great pub!
Food is always delicious, staff have always been friendly and welcoming.
Prices don't break the bank either
J. D.
Great atmosphere, nice people and full of happy dogs on the ground floor and no dogs upstairs for people not liking them. The food is not fine dining but it's good pub grub.
J. L.
Lovely food, nice sea view, friendly staff. Would recommend this place
M. B.
I am unable to give a complete overall review of the Rising Sun but when we stopped there to buy 4 coffees and a couple of lemonade for the children I was surprised to find the bill costing £16, we didn't drink the drinks inside the establishment we took them outside and sat on a wall, the drinks was supplied in polystyrene cups which were throw away items, perhaps that's where the additional charge comes into it. As they try to recoup finances due to the Covered virus.
H. T.
Lovely pub, great food and the staff are always really nice
S. S.
Excellent food and service. Staff caring and professional. Premises and tables extremely clean. Lady on the front of house was proficient in her role.
R. N.
Lovely food and helpfull staff..and the views are amazing
J. H.
I did not enter the pub so cannot review . I was on my scooter to rest and chill at the waterside . The pub looks ok on the outside
S. E.
Good English pub, with great English pub food. Don't expect more. 😊
R. C.
A pub with a great view over the River Hamble, friendly staff and although we only had lunchtime toasties everything around us looked really tasty and well presented
J. W.
Good service, good food and a nicely refurbished place. Glad we returned after a long break.
R.
Worth going if you can get a table with a view. Food was ok. Shame they no longer have waitress service . Now you have to order at the bar which, if busy, can be a long wait.
K. M.
Good cheerful service - food well cooked & presented. Faces the R Hamble with great variety of boating views, especially from the upper restaurant tables. Good free car park, with spacious deck with seats - popular with adults & children - Warsash Yacht Club to the left & the Harbour Master's office & moorings to the right. There are said to be 5000+ boats on the Hamble. - good walks up river & out along the coast - KM
S. M.
The location right at the marina is great and if you sit upstairs by the window, you can watch the boats go past and people do their thing by the seaside. There's also a D-Day Memorial right outside. The pub itself is a pretty ordinary pub. It certainly is not a gastro pub, so if you're expecting exceptional food, you'll be disappointed. They serve the usual microwaved pub grub you get at many chain pubs. It isn't bad, it was nicely presented and quickly served so I've no complaints. The toilets, if I may quote my missus, were "minging", which is always disappointing, but hardly a surprise in an English pub. The view did it for me though - it was a lovely day to have a beer and a meal upstairs and I'll most probably pop in again sometime.
A. D.
Fantastic pub with great food and excellent service, with amazing views accross the water to Hamble
M.
Great food and you can sit on the waterfront to have some food and a pint
L. T.
Really good pub by the sea not eaten there yet but got deals on certain days like fish & chips for £7 on a Friday beer good service good scenery cool. A must on a sunny day
S. F.
I haven't eaten in here for years, so can't and won't comment on the food, but it's one of the most beautifully situated pubs around. Sitting outside having a drink in the sunshine is one of life's little pleasures. Oh, and you can get to ogle at the fit yachties. Delicious!!
L. C.
Nice sceneries, funky smell but very nice pint. Friendly staff and live music
C. F.
Lovely meal excellent service really worth a visit
Y. P.
Good food enjoyed my visit especially as they allowed my dog in.
S. M.
Lovely setting. You can take a drink and go sit outside by the water. Good selection of gin with more than your usual Hendrick's and Gordon all topped with fever tree tonic.
E. N.
Fairly standard Greene King pub. Decor is a bit tired and a limited selection on tap but friendly staff and in a lovely area. I wasn't there long enough to make a proper judgement.
C. H.
Several items off the menu which was a shame. But what we had was good. The staff friendly. Excellent views of the water from upstairs.
R. P.
Lovely location for watching the yachts sailing past. Decent menu, decent ales and very friendly staff. Obviously has a nautical theme in decor, but this absolutely suits the venue. Car park directly opposite and pet friendly...although I do find this quite disconcerting for a restaurant based pub. On my visit today there were 6 dogs sitting and lying on the floor.
Not quite a humanitarian crisis, but food and dogs together isn't a good recommendation...maybe I'm getting old?
UPDATE: It is now 2 years since my original review above and my concerns about people who bring dogs into places where food is served, were highlighted by an incident on my last visit in early March.
My friend's wife and I were in having a drink, next too us were 2 women, who were eating. Then a couple sat opposite them, with their 'precious'. Now, on this visit the weather was atrocious and the rain was torrential. The dog, soaking wet and exuding that beautiful aroma of wet hair, simply stood beside the tables and shook, filthy, stinking water all over the table and the women who were eating.
The owners simply smiled. Not one word of apology was heard and despite the woman nearest, being splattered in wet, dirty spots to her plate and clothing...not even the offer of recompense?
As I said two years ago. Dogs and restaurants are NOT a great mix.
E. F.
One of our families favourite places to grab some dinner. Great atmosphere, yummy grub, friendly staff. And best of all it's dog friendly 😊🐾🐕
R. I.
Lived in the local area for two years now and theirs no question the rising sun is a fantastic place to go... Friendly staff that are promt in helping guests and making you feel welcome...
Excellent standard of food and drink and such a lovely atmosphere and view... Would recommend to anyone willing to have a good time with family.. dog friendly too
N. H.
Adequate food, pub grub, not bad but nothing special. Drinks choices are pretty limited, all run of the mill Greene King offerings, bland ales and lagers. Aspalls Cyder saves it.
Staff polite and friendly are an asset.
A. C.
Good food and atmosphere and catered for GF OK...Enjoyed it
R. G.
Love this pub. Delicious salmon. Great after a long walk along Solent Way. Good Covid control. Great service
M. G. 1.
A great stopover on our cycling route. Very friendly staff, nothing to much trouble. Great food and coffee. Worth a visit for lunch.
M. M.
Had a really good meal here. The staff are friendly with great views. I hope to return soon
S. G.
To the owner of the Rising Sun.... You are under staffed your customers are sitting at tables where dirty dishes and glasses are not cleared and the bar staff are under constant pressure to keep drinks supplied and so don't have time to clear tables we sat with a pile of dirty dishes on our table for the whole time we were there and other tables were not cleared at all.... It makes for a very unpleasant visit its not the staff that are at fault they do not have enough support at busy times.
D. D.
Lovely pub good quality food will visit again.
M. J.
A great pub under a new landlord & landlady. New decor looks great and a good atmosphere too.
Well worth a visit.
C. B.
My family and I stayed for a meal in the upstairs restaurant. The food and service was excellent and all for a fair price. We had a great time and will be back :-)
J. F.
Great location, helpful and attentive staff and the food is good pub food.need to book at the moment though
S. D.
Lovely revamp the place looks so fresh now, food was great and hot when served and not long to wait for it either, staff were lovely and friendly, checking if all was ok throughout our visit, dog friendly and water bowls for them, even snacks for them too, great selection of gins available as lagers and ales, busy and vibrant pub, will be returning again soon
v. s.
Best food ever. Fabulous location. Parking. Friendly staff. Lovely pub/restaurant.
M. P.
Lovely setting by the water and interior design. Food leaves a lot to be desired.
D. R.
Good fish menu.great location by the water. We had roast beef. Ok but not great. Tables dirty and uncleared
C. U.
Nice venue, great location but looking a little tired. Bar staff were busy but still took a long time to get our drinks. Well go again.
S. Y. T. (.
Gave 4 starts because I just passed by and took some nice pictures at the dock, we were in a rush to head back so it was sad not to have time to go in for a meal.
N. H.
Nice pub next to the Hamble. Really pleasant staff. View a little restricted, but well worth a visit on a warm day for a cold drink.
C. M.
Good food, helpful staff & covid safe!!
Nice river views especially on a sunny day.😊
L. R.
Disappointed Sunday evening - had to ask for drinks several times and ask to be served. The sundaes were nothing like description and not very nice. Shame as love the place
V. W.
Great food. But the service was appalling! Had to ask four time before we finally got our jug of tapwater. The waiting staff stood around talling and didn't clear tables, took a long time to call someone over to ask for the bill.
P. D.
Amazing fish and chips with homemade tartar sauce and mushy peas. Triple cooked chips topped it off for less than £10.
Excellent service.
L. S.
Lovely food ,nice setting great staff.
N. A.
Only visiting the area at Xmas, had a great meal though, Carol service outside the pub. A few drinks in there in my time in Warsash, always friendly.
M. K.
We visit Southampton at least once a year and always make it our mission to visit the rising sun, lovely food friendly staff never disappoint
B. P.
Really lo lovely pub great atmosphere food good value for money a bit dissatisfied with the way the food served as we had a table of8 6adults and 2 children by the time the children's meal were served the adults had finished there meals we had to go to the bar and enquirie about there meals
J. W.
Good honest, very reasonably priced food, with special deals, including for the 60+ clientele, but without stinting on quantity.
Friendly staff, wheelchair accessible (via fire door) and pleasant surroundings.
A. H.
Top quality food the chef deserves a star. Top quality service too from our waitress. Thank you.
V. D.
Had the turkey roast-quite a long wait, whole meal could have been hotter.

J. T.
Nice food, very pleasant staff, good Covid prevention measures. Enjoyed our visit
O. M.
Mixed reaction. Food good value, if a little "airline" style. Friendly food serving staff but bar staff totally lacking in personality, good location.
A. E.
Great historical pub located on River Hamble. Excellent service, good selection of drinks, good menu. Large car park opposite.
S. R.

N. N.
Popular pub, locals and visitors. Good service and fine selection of beers. Especially welcome after a 10 mile walk along the Solent Way
