Shamblehurst Barn is a lovely old structure with some really interesting decor. It is at heart a chain pub, so the food comes from this chain menu -acceptable, fairly consistent but not great. It is always hard getting a steak cooked with no pink, but also not cremated, and our visit here was no different. The steak was still too pink after a second cook and I then gave up. The other meal and the drinks were fine. The service of the food and condiments was great, friendly and helpful, but the welcome when we walked in, was luke-warm at best - Us: We are a bit early, we have a booking for 12 3 chatting servers look over and without taking our name 1 waves a hand: Take any table you like And with that they went back to chatting. Having waited a bit to see if there was table service we decided there probably was not, and went to the bar to order. If you know the rules, and have a favourite meal that you know they will cook well, this is probably a nice atmospheric pub to visit.

A glorious place, the staff are friendly, helpful and good fun. The food is great and is incredible value for money for a great product. I used to really enjoy Wetherspoons for bar food deals but the prices started creeping up and the portion started getting smaller. Some of the daily deals are amazing and I'm not sure how they make any money but long may it continue.

As a Hungry Horse, it's what it is. Great value, and plenty of choice. As a pub that advertises its array of real ales; again it was a selection of 1. Maybe change your kind offer to "enjoy our wide selection of an ale"? That said, it was well kept, and very tasty!

Went here on a recent Sunday with the family. Meals were moderately alright I suppose. 2 had Sunday roasts, no chicken available so substituted by turkey which was just lumps badly cooked. I had gammon which came less pineapple ring and less onion rings. Think on balance will give it a miss for further gatherings.

We come here often and really enjoy the chilled atmosphere as well as the food and service. We visited today for my husband's birthday and would just like to say that Amy was a super member of staff and a real asset to the company! She was polite, helpful and knowledgeable! Went in for Father's day meal wasn't that busy to be overcrowded, the menu has changed somewhat eg got dearer .I usually have a 24oz rump steak but decided on the 12oz. Service was quick food was mediocre wouldn't say fantastic. I had the sticky toffee pudding with bourbon with lashings of custard lol (so it said on the menu) when it came it out there was hardly any ,so I mentioned it to the lovely waitress who then brought out my own bowl of custard 😆. If you are looking for tip top food you won't find it here ,but something for a Friday night meal instead of pizza this is the place . I must say the burgers looked fantastic though 👌

2 bear gardens, large pub and we had a lovely sunny afternoon sat outside. App service now so you can stay at your table and order online for table service. Down side was coming here a couple kf weeks ago for an evening meal with friends to find we couldn't because we hadn't booked (it looked like there was lots of space).

Haven't been there for a while as we've moved out of the area. However as it was on our travelling route we decided to pop in. Great to see it's got even better with new outside additions. The food is as good as ever and still competitively priced. Beer also still well kept and very refreshing. When next in the area it will be our go to lunch destination.

Amazing experience for my birthday dinner. We had made a booking but when we arrived we were seated upstairs, my mom is disabled and staff sorted us a table in no time downstairs. The food was excellent and even with a party of 9 they got the food out in a timely manner. Friendly wait staff who even with the difficulty of covid and precautions put into place were still friendly and very helpful. Everything was clean and well taken care if. We will definitely be back.

Had a meal here for Father's Day and was a bit disappointed. Had to pay to reserve a table, which was fine, but had to seek out a member of staff to show us where to sit. They forgot to take the deposit off the payment and we ended up paying for Dad's drink to, despite the 'free drink for dad' promotion. The food was a bit disappointing, and smaller than when I ordered the same a couple of months ago. Won't be coming back in a hurry.

I went there twice for dinner. Nothing special either way, really. Food was good, brought quickly. The queue for ordering can get a bit long, what with only one person behind the bar that has to take the order and pour the drinks. Would I go there again? Maybe, but that's not really their fault. My husband and I seem not to go to pubs if we go out.

When your at the bar you need to make sure you que in a correct place as newcomers often get served before you. Sometimes bar staff completely ignore you and just turn a back on you leaving you stand there like a idiot. However food is really nice with a pleasant atmosphere in a dining area and a friendly waitress team.

Quick and efficient service but certain drinks were not available despite still being advertised. Staff came to check if food was ok 2 mins after receiving it. The Shamblehurst Barn is great value for money, with lots of classic pub options to choose from. The range of beer isn’t that wide, with mainly lagers and some mass production ales. It’s always busy, not sure if that’s a indicator of it being a good pub or that there aren’t many other options around. They recently added a new bar downstairs, which adds more to the confusion of ordering, never enough staff. If your hungry and not fussy, the Shamblehurst is a good option.

This place seemed tucked out the way to me, but it is the nearest place to have refreshment when you come out of Hedge End railway station. Large selection of food at great prices. Order at the bar with your table number and everything is taken care of. I only went in for a coffee and a sandwich, but what I got for my £5 was like a mini meal. Good Wi-Fi and clean loos. Also sport on tv in one corner - not for me, so I went to the other corner.

Don't be under any illusions here, this is a Hungry Horse place, so reviews should take that into account. I've seen reviews saying "chav central" well yes, it's cheap food that low income families will enjoy, at the end of the day you do indeed get what you pay for, in this case it's pub grub on a budget, fine the mushy peas may not be great, but when you didn't pay the earth for them you can't be too disappointed. As far as hungry horses goes the Shamblehurst is good, the staff can be rushed off their feet coz it can be mega busy, but in my experience they've always been friendly and done their best. My top tip would be, if you're planning on 2 drinks with your meal, order them both at once, attracting the attention of a busy waitress here can be a challenge.
