Bloody good food and I mean that it's FAR above standard pub grub! Unfortunately their range of lagers on tap were a little disappointing but with a decent amount of ales, ciders and spirits it's not a deal breaker. Will definitely go back again.

I was always a big fan of the old Alex, with it's Star Wars memorabilia and mix of students and working patrons. Knowing there was new ownership I was keen to see how the pub was getting on so popped in late afternoon one Friday in the run up to Christmas. The film memorabilia has all gone and the area behind the bar is slightly different but the layout of the pub itself is the same, with a large open area wrapped around the central bar. The new decor is nice and the furniture is the modern hodge podge of varieties. Special mention for the wonderful huge Christmas tree in one corner! Like many pubs, the pool table has been removed for now to make more room for seating because the pub still offers a good looking menu and offers roast dinners on a Sunday. Unfortunately there is currently no draught real ale on offer. The friendly bar person, John, explained that it wasn't selling but they hoped to offer real ales again in future. For now there are three keg beers on offer, Sharp's Atlantic (£4.70 a pint) and Beavertown's Gamma Ray (£5.80 a pint) & Neck Oil IPA. A bit pricey, kegs are, but both were in good condition and tasty. The area out the back is still there and is spacious and looks great with some twinkly lights and a marque to protect you from the rain. I hope the pub continues to do well in these difficult times. It started to get a bit busier as I finished my second pint. The pub deserves to do well and it looks like it's in good hands.

Meet here with a group of photographers and models every other month. Good selection of drinks, staff are friendly and don't mind us moving tables & chairs.

Was an ok place, to be honest was probably the wrong time to go on a Saturday afternoon. Ended up leaving to go somewhere else. Friendly staff though. Just lots of young people..felt like I was in a crèche

Nice little stage space for bands. Awesome room with a big choice of gaming systems to play on. Girls toilets were a bit inconvenient though when I went as one was broken and the other's door didn't have a latch or lock. Nice little pub to have a drink in though.

Retro consoles, pinball machines, movie classics cover the walls, board games available, decent selection of beers and regular live music. Wouldn't recommend it for watching a match but it's not a sports crowd bar anyway.

The pictures are outdated on Google . The place is quite nice. Though not fully disabled access. A medium sized curbside step can be navigated with aid but otherwise there seems to be no access for people in a wheelchair. Service is fast and polite . Nice little pub and venue.

A nice friendly pub with cool decor. Great place for nerds and geeks and pop culture freaks. Lots of games consoles! Unfortunately some of the consoles and games have been damaged and they no longer have guitar hero :( Drinks are not too expensive. Staff are friendly. However, the live music can be way too loud.

Me and my son (10 years old) went for dinner, the staff are amazing and made us all feel important... The open fire was stunning and made the place feel so cozy, lots of games that my son loves playing, proper family friendly pub. The roast dinner was out of this world... the beef melted in your mouth and was the best I've had in a longtime... beats any competition in the area definitely be back there and was worth every penny. My son didnt want to leave... Thank you to all at the Alex and see you again soon.

Great atmosphere and had some wonderful local bands on usually free. The drinks are well priced and they offer student deals. There's not a lot of seating in the evenings though and could do with a good clean a lick of paint and some new seats in my opinion.

I really like this place, it has a very relaxed atmosphere with interesting decor. I especially like going down there on match days were several saints fans congregate for a couple before a match. Their themed cocktails are quite cheap and the staff are always quite friendly and helpful. It's a shame most of the evenings I have been there it seems to be a little empty. I really hope this great place doesn't close down like other nice pubs in the area. *cough* Avondale *cough*

Decent pub, Average Southampton prices with a wide range of beers and ales available on draught. Good selection of spirits and cocktails available as well. Evening entertainment in the form of local bands. and nice open space beer garden. Would definitely recommend!

Great atmosphere, excellent outdoor area and a nice selection of alcohol. The place has some amazing live acts on some days and has several retro consoles if you like to play some old games with your drink. Definitely worth the trip.

Really good Sunday roast. I decided to pop over on impulse after seeing a post on Facebook & I wasn't dissapointed. Received a warm friendly welcome & ordered the beef short rib. It was tender & juicy, lovely crispy roast potatoes, great cauliflower cheese, roast carrot, red cabbage & unctuous beef gravy. The yorkshire pud was good too. Really enjoyed it. The pub itself is a no frills old town pub, however don't let this put you off, the food is great & chef knows what he is doing. The only downside on my visit was it was very quiet & the place felt cold, but it was end of service & I guess had been busy earlier. Overall though, great food & friendly staff. Thanks 👍

Awesome little pub with a great "nerdy" touch to it from the themed cocktails to the videogames you can play. Lovely beer garden too. Due to its size, the pub can sometimes feel completely crowded and there is very limited seating available.

Every Sunday, I am same as most people in the UK. I search for a great roast dinner, that search is now over!! After seeing a photo of a friends roast from The Alex Pub, it looked great. That was 6 weeks and 6 roast dinners later. I can confirm, the roast dinner there is best i’v had. Maybe I’ll see you in there 🍴

Decent pub, good beer and pretty fast service. Bizarre entrance (it has a porch ,i don't think it would be easy for a wheelchair user) The toilets really let this place down,, graffiti on the walls everywhere,had to try 3 taps to find a working one and the decades old hand dryer had given up the ghost.

What a fantastic night. The Alex itself is a proper old fashioned pub. No fancy stuff here. But tonight was a music night including The Dead Frieghts one of the most promising bands in the country right now an the place was ramed. Great pub. Great music. Long live the traditional pub. A movie/tv show themed pub that has memorabilia of figurines and posters scattered around. The selection of beverages is great, especially on certain days such as May the 4th, due to their offer of Star Wars themed drinks. Every Thursday they host an excellent BBQ dinner which has a wide selection of meats for a reasonable price. Make sure you reserve a table ahead of the event.
