Reviews of The Bold Forester
K. B.
I visited this place a while ago and was very impressed with the place. Both the style and cleanliness. A large interior with mixed seating and a separate dining area.
Outside seating also with parasols next to a large car park.
Slightly off the beaten track but well worth the visit.
Staff are friendly and helpful and the food was excellent.
I have no qualms about giving this venue the stars I have awarded.
I’m not sure why there are some negative reviews? But, there are plenty of positive ones.

Booked for 7 people, was told either 12pm or 4pm was the only times available, arrived for 12pm.I was told on arrival that our table was in the bar area (& yes right next to the bar it was) I said I wasn’t told this when I booked, otherwise I wouldn’t of bothered. The lady who saw to us apologised it wasn’t in the restaurant but said they were rammed all day. I thought booking at 12pm when they said the availability & being earlier ,it would be in the restaurant. We ordered our meals, the food was nice but 14.99 for a roast dinner & £8 or 8.99 (can’t quite remember )for a pudding like a crumble we thought was very expensive! Decent portion of fries though. The menu has very limited options for V/VG & the veggie sausages for the veggie roast were vegetable filled sausages, not like what you would expect for a vegetarian sausage (you veggie’s know what what I mean 🙂) Had cheaper and better food at more pubs than this. The restaurant appeared to be pretty empty for the time we were there, so unsure why we couldn’t sit in there. We never had starters, or puddings, just mains a couple of sides & a round of drinks, a few had a second drink & it was £140. I would in future definitely ask where you are sitting when you book , but I think that should of been made clear. The roast dinners themselves should definitely be under £10 more like £8/£9.00.

Popped in on the way back from the Garden Centre. Happy to have a table without booking, but was early at 12pm. Pleasant staff and great food choice, opted for the Sunday Roast in the end and it did not disappoint. All very quick service- in and out within 50 mins! Only downside was the large party of people dining at the same time who didn't have volume control- but that's hardly the fault of the establishment. Will be back.
A. B.
An absolutely fabulous meal as always. The pork belly was probably one of the best I've had. Excellent service and they know how to make a good Cosmo!
M. D.
Fabulous food! Everything we had was really excellent. They have a great menu, with lots of choice and they also have an industrial smoker, so the bbq type meats were great. The burgers were hand made and the pulled pork salad was a brilliant combination of flavours. We'll definitely be back next time we're near.

Lovely spot to stop for lunch. Very friendly welcoming place. Dog friendly, cyclist friendly and plenty of parking spaces.
Tables outside with shade and cosy nooks inside if you prefer. Lot of range on the menu. We had Pulled pork and Chicken salads which were lovely. They were great with accomodating allergies, which was appreciated, very helpful staff.

I've not visited this pub for over 20 years but I was pleasantly suprised with how good it is now.
The food is absolutely amazing and very reasonably priced considering how beautifully it's presented and the flavours put together. The chefs are an absolute credit along with the front of house team
The decor is also very tasteful and gives a real modern but homely feel.
Definitely worth the 2 hour journey from Kent 👍

Great family meal. We turned up after spending the day out. They were able to accommodate the four of us at short notice albeit busy. Service and food was excellent. Two of us had the Sunday Roasts, melt in your mouth meat and plenty of veg too. Kids meals went down well also. We just about managed a dessert too. Shame we're not local because we'd be having meals here regularly. Well done to all the team, we left well fed and feeling good.
R. F.
Fantastic food, large portions, service was very good. Ales were in excellent condition. All in all a great evening

Amazing Sunday Roast.
Had a really nice Sunday roast with my grandad here after a car show. Was the first pub we saw and it was lovely. The roast pork belly was tender and with amazing crackling, very generous portions and plenty of trimmings. Very happy with the pub and definitely recommend it to anyone in the area. Really enjoyed it here! Thanks!

What a meal! From the Fish and Chips my Daughter had which she said was and I quote "enormous". To the 🐗 Sausages that were beautiful! And the Turkey curry.(We didn't have turkey this year) and I had the Stack burger it was very big and very tasty too. Prices are a little steep but worth every penny/pound. I would recommend a visit, make sure you book in advance to be safe.
P. P.
Excellent place to eat. Good food, great beer and attentive service. A very good Gastro Pub. Highly recommended. We will be returning.
A. B.
What a gem. We only found this pub as taking a different route home after leaving Beaulieu.
Despite not booking, we were found a table without fuss and were grateful for that.
Our food was hot, tasty and plentiful. Really good value and would definitely recommend.
N. B.
I’ve avoided this pub for years as I never had a good meal under the previous owners but thought we would give it another try as it always busy when we drive past. The revamp has it looking modern with the country pub feel still there. Shame the beer garden wasn’t open. The service was spot on and starters out of this world. Mixed reviews on the mains some loved it others was over cooked and raw chips. It’s definitely improved but given the price I don’t think I would return.

Was a great experience had by all !!
Staff were very helpful, informed us about the food, and suggested other options, when needed. Food was great.
Daughter and I haven't been there for long time, it was our favourite place to eat, and although 40 odd years have passed, it remains our favourite place.
Well done to all staff.
L. T. T.
Very friendly, traditional, English pub with delicious freshly cooked food.
Great for family and pets. Staff really warm and welcoming.
Highly recommend the Texas blue cheese burger and the Tiramisu.
PS: Kids ate everything and that doesn't happen very often with ours
B. H.
Definitely a review of two halves. Positively, our food was simply exceptional - we each had a different roast meal and each was divine. The meats were succulent, tender and impossibly tasty; veg was perfectly cooked and the roasties were sublime. Portion size was just on the right side of generous and the puddings (cheesecake and brownie) were awesome.
Sadly, our overall experience was completely let down by the service we received. Firstly, as my daughter pulled her chair in she badly sliced into the tip of her finger. The chair cushion was not fixed to the chair and she ended up with a deep cut from a prominent staple. The acknowledgement from the staff was barely there, with the only response being of anger that the chair was even out - no acknowledgement at the time, nor offer of any first aid kit or anything else (we were offered a single desert on the house later on in our meal). Secondly, as our drinks were brought over I had not just one, but two drinks spilled all in my lap. Again, minimal apology, no offer of anything remedial and other guests came to our assistance with anything to try and mop it up before any staff were able to. Cue a completely uncomfortable eating experience, rescued singularly by the exquisite food. By the end of it, the only acknowledgment was a gratis desert.
You’ll not regret visiting for food though

Excellent food and service. Sunday roast was amazing.

The Bold Forrester was a pub that I went to once a year to play darts. It was also a place I ate in once. This was all back in the early 80s. Quite frankly it was a dump but also an expensive dump both beer and food. So I stopped going and pass it regularly without a thought of going in.
Fast forward to the present and I noticed that the car park was beginning to fill so I took the plunge and took an old friend to lunch.
What a difference. The tat has gone and the whole place transformed into a lovely comfortable eating house with superb food (I recommend fish pie) and good selection of beer and wine. Most definitely on my regular list from now on.
M. H.
Visited for a quiet birthday meal. All four of us had the the three çourse set menu and can honestly say all four of us left feeling very happy with the food and very stuffed to boot. So to reiterate visit this pub and sit back and enjoy a great meal at very reasonable prices.
A. M.
Lovely atmosphere. Quite pricey but quite good food. My steak was cooked to perfection but tough. Their burgers look out of this world.. Next time gadget..
L. S.
We recently held a family gathering at The Bold Forester and I'd certainly recommend the pub to anyone who is looking for a venue for a get together. We were in the snug which has a lovely atmosphere and the pub provided a buffet, which was of a very high quality and very nice. When arranging this with the pub I asked if the buffet selection could be slightly changed and the response was it was no trouble at all.
Also they have a good selection of drinks and some very nice ales on tap.
Thank you to everyone at The Bold Forester.
J. D.
Had a lovely bit of pie, the staff were really helpful and friendly. The ale was also really good. Would definitely recommend.
It did get a bit cold dining outdoors as the seats are not in the sunshine in the evening, but you can't have it all.
P.
Poor service sat for more than 15 minutes with menus in the restaurant but nobody offered us drinks (there were very few customers in the bar and restaurant so not quite sure why we had to wait) eventually had to go out to the bar to order the drinks and then a glass of medium rose was just under £10 which is excessively expensive even in these times.
One of the waiters had a nasty cold and seemed to be happy to cough and splutter everywhere. Food was reasonable, the Shepherds Pie beef brisket was very nice but the chicken, bacon and avocado salad whilst generous in size lacked any avocado.....we mentioned this to a staff member and they brought an avocado side out. Disappointing visit overall.
B. W.
I think customer service has disappeared during covid , although friendly staff , I was just given my meal - no ‘enjoy your meal ‘ or ‘ ask if you need anything ‘ . So no salt and pepper about for starters which I was going to ask for when they ‘didn’t ‘ pop over to check all was ok with my meal .
The meal was actually tasty apart from the fact the potatoes were boiled and not sautéed as stated on the menu !
I would have enjoyed the meal I payed £23 for if the customer service existed
s. m.
Stumbled across this hidden gem, friendly happy staff.
Lots of choice on the menu, nice outside seating area.
The service was fast and the food was delicious. Would definitely recommend a visit and will come back next time I'm in the area.
A. B.
Amazing burgers! Great beer too. Will be back to try out other items on the menu, although it will be hard not to go for a burger again!
T. J.
Excellent place to stop for a spot of lunch, there was 10 of use with dogs very helpful with taking dogs. Staff very friendly and helpful!! Food was delicious 😋 10/10 👌
N. S.

Updated review since change of management and a complete internal refit ....
Gone from a 3 to 5 stars!
Had a lovely meal here a few nights ago. Served by Chris, helped out by Liam - had great chat with these guys.
Food was absolutely fab, the scotch egg was the best I've ever had. Ribs deleciois. Pudding ... oh man!!
It's, in my personal opinion, a little pricey, so it can't be a weekly or fortnightly visit for us but I really wish I could.
If you've not visited since the change - DO IT!
If you're a visitor to the New Forest, welcome, it's worth visiting.
I'm no photographer, but hope the photos show the meal!
I. S.
Just had a lovely meal in this nice restaurant/ pub. We were passing through in our motorhome, stopped for some food which was really nice, pleasant staff, decent beer and Well priced. Will be stopping again.
P. C.
Lovely and friendly atmosphere, all the staff were great too. We travelled down to the New forest for the day and booked on route, unfortunately the booking system didn't work properly however, the staff found us a place in the restaurant which was full. The food was lovely with very reasonable sized portions, let's say you wouldn't go hungry. We had a 3 course meal with the Sunday roast. The staff were all busy but everything was timely. I recommend and will be returning again on my next trip to the New Forest.
s. a.
Lunch with mum and my daughters excellent again, Hunters chicken is great
M. L.
First time I have been here in a very long time and was impressed with the improvements made and the extensive and unusual menu. Most pubs only offer a few dishes but here had a huge number of options! Although one starter we wanted was sold out. As for the quality of the food, it was plentiful and tasty, but I would say it still requires a bit more finesse to truly count as a gastropub. Still definitely worth trying out and making up your own mind. Overall a nice place to visit.
J. P.
Food's alright and fairly priced, can't complain that end.
Service was a little all over the place but it was a busy Sunday.
P. R.
Great mid-week dinner with the family. It was vegan month, we all chose one of the specials and were not disappointed!
C. S.
Fantastic food with generous portions. Good value for money.
N. W.
Good menu and service with a few interesting specials, but the real joy was having food served hot on hot plates. Prices in line with similar establishments. Will go back...!
L. A.
We came here for lunch. Well laid out and good precautions for social distancing and good service. Food was really tasty and good portions. Really good menu selection.
j. v.
Very good food and plenty of it very good menu . Staff friendly helpfull and very efficient. I suggest you book on a Sunday for lunch as very busy otherwise you will have to wait for a table
a. b.
Top notch food. Couldn't have been any better.
Lovely , and the staff were caring and friendly.
C.
Decent food! Lovely atmosphere and lovely staff who guided us through an evening to remember
I. S.
Lovely Pub on the edge of The New Forest. Excellent varied menu. Allowed us to park our Campervan overnight as we were eating there.
C. W.
Absolutely incredible food, very well organised and very friendly service. Would highly recommend to anyone, plenty of food for a great price.
A. W.
Great customer service. Really friendly staff and Brisket yo die for. Well worth a visit. You won’t be disappointed.
T. L.
Lovely food. Good service. Well kept place.
I. M.
Great food the staff were great very happy and family friendly.
G. V.
Small mix up with booking, great food and drink . Will come back when next in New Forrest.
C. T.
Nice welcoming pub on the edge of the New forest, dog friendly so perfect after a nice long walk. Food was great and they had my favourite beer Beavertown 'Neck Oil' on tap. They have a restaurant, bar and a snug room to relax in.
J. C.
Beautifully decorated pub with amazingly friendly staff (Manon and Lily) who were only too happy to share recommendations on how best to enjoy a sticky toffee pudding (which is a must try, by the way!)...that is with pouring cream, custard or ice cream. Turns out, cream is best with a classic sticky toffee pudding! Dinner was brilliant too..we had the full rack of ribs and the half chicken with the specialty rubs and sauces..equally delicious. I picked this place based on the reviews and wasn't disappointed. Highly recommended for the food, ambience and welcome.
R. F.
I was in the new forest with my three kids yesterday ( Sunday) .. and it was getting on for past six o'clock and all of us wanted a roast dinner ,after being turned away from two different pubs on our way home because they had stopped the roast dinners and one pub in particular wasn't very welcoming at all I decided to call up the Bold Forester, the friendly young on the end of the phone told me to come over so thats what I did. On arrival the warm and friendly staff greeted me and my family as we approached the bar where the selection of beers and ales were right up street i ordered four roast dinners with the meat of our choice and all dinners were nothing short of outstanding!!! Highly recommended this pub 👌
L. M.
Went out for a family Sunday Lunch, the food was amazing. Definitely recommend.
S. M.
Great service and amazing food. The highstack burger is a real belly buster!
C. T.
After a very poor meal and service we returned this week for another meal. I have to say it was lovely the fish and chips were lovely and we finished off with a Mr Whippy ice cream which was the icing on the cake. Well done very impressed this time and our waitress Lilly was very attentive and lovely. Thank you
C. J.
We really enjoy it! Great food and helpful happy staff. We will definitely be back.
s. h.
Wow finally had the turn around it needed. Food is slightly expensive however it does taste better and you can see its quality too. I had the lemon thyme belly of pork roast and couldnt fault it. Roast potatoes were very nice as well properly roasted and seasoned. Mixture of veg on plate too I had carrot and Swede mash, broccoli , chunky carrot, leeks and cabbage. It was £14.50 however as stated it was quality as well as quantity. Partner had ham egg and chips three thick hand carved ham 2 eggs and chips with homemade slaw. Again slightly higher priced but very well seasoned and partner enjoyed.
Good service. Drinks were £3.50 for pint of pepsi. £10 for double gin and tonic (200ml tonic was £3) and beer was £4.80 a pint.
R. T.
Amazing service and a fabulous Sunday roast. Thank you for an amazing meal. 👍
A. W.
Service seemed slow. Food was good. Fish pie certainly nice.
A. P.
Chance find, dogs allowed in the bar area, good food served for an impromptu lunch. Recommend the blue burger.
m. s.
Nice pub, good food and good service.
P. K.
Good traditional food, friendly staff, and Dog friendly too..play area a bit limited but when not too busy..its just fine
P. C.
Went for a group Christmas dinner there ~16 of us. Food was well presented, hot and served promptly.
k. d.
Nice place with a decent menu and good service! Go for the atmosphere as it's a chill one
E. H.
Excellent meal and very friendly staff. There was a significant delay due to a very large party arriving shed of us. However it won't deter us from returning. Superb choice of menu. We'll Done the chefs.!
S. L. S.
Lovely fresh cooked food and surroundings. Pudding could've been bigger for the price but enjoyed anyway
P.
Love this pub. food great staff friendly only criticism is wine Way too expensive maybe they could review this.!!atmosphere great, pub well decorated lovely cosy feel, shout out to ricardo for fantastic customer service,we will return for sure
R. M.
Visited here 2 days ago and felt like I had been robbed
A pint of Guinness and a rum and coke and 3 packs of crisps £16.20
Won’t be go there very often 😡
A. C.
I'll start with a positive, the food was amazing and very generous portions. I've never been to this pub before despite living in the area. We decided to try it out to take advantage of the eat out to help out scheme. Having called numerous times with no answer we decided to try our luck at getting a table by turning up. We weren't expecting to get seated but the rudeness of the staff member who sat us down makes me wish we hadn't bothered. The food, whilst glorious, is seriously overpriced. We would have had to fork out £14 for (three) sausages and mash had there been no half price meals offer. Safe to say we would have got up and walked straight out at those prices, regardless of the pub being in the New Forest and having higher pricing.
Sadly, we most likely won't return to this pub due to impolite staff members even though the food is great. It is a real shame.
C. G.
Good food - good quality and not excessive quantity. Good staff.
P. D.
First time here for over 15 years after a bad experience, pleased to say its changed hands and is now a lovely pub once again
S. P.
Since this place has been been refurbished a few years ago, I cannot fault it. Food is superb and staff are wonderful. You won't regret a visit. Location, food, staff tick all the boxes
E. H.
My family had a really good meal here today. Portion sizes were just right, the service was very friendly and the food was delicious.
Definitely worth a visit.
L. B.
Good food, had a chicken burger, it was huge, and the chicken was moist and tender. Generally Good pub grub, good service, Big carpark and plenty of space inside.
J. J.
Great and tasty pork ribs! Great staff!
M. W.
Lovely forest pub with amazing food. Yes, some say it's expensive but you get what you pay for here. Very tasty food as well as good size portions. Highly recommend 👌🏻
H. B.
Visited here yesterday as a solo person. Social distancing was in place. The two ladies there were absolutely lovely and very helpful. Gave me a very warm welcome. Food was excellent. Congrats to the chef. Food tasted very fresh and i could not find fault with anything. Totally recommended. I will return again alone and with friends and family. On-site parking, nice countryside vibe.

This truly is a fantastic pub/restaurant & a great place to eat. Highly recommend
S. P.
We booked a table for 7 adults on a Friday evening. Excellent food, generous portions and lovely staff . Just ideal
M. P.
Food was ok a little overpriced
Kids portions good
Ordered bitter and took 1st pint back horrible aftertaste , girl said they had problems with it all day ,
Why would you leave on if it had gone off I was offered another choice this was awful too .
The guy just frowned as if I was being a problem .
When spending hard earned money , I would expect
A pint that was drinkable .
Not best experience need to sort out there customer
Service
M. W.
A quick visit for a pint and lunch after a game of golf. Staff were very friendly and the food was tasty. Ideal outside area when we couldn't eat inside because of Covid restrictions. We'll definitely be back.
P. R.
What a transformation ..
Fantastic food friendly attentive staff and a great atmosphere
Will definately be returning
S. N.
Excellent place to visit, we took our grandson who is about to turn 4.and even he enjoyed it.
T. M.
Fantastic food, attentive and friendly staff, lovely environment, clean and felt very comfortable. Would definitely recommend!
P. H. (. P.
I think this is under different management since we last visited a year or so ago and is all the better for it.
I wish I'd taken a pic of the menu, but I remember it was really extensive, including a lot of dishes that appealed to me. My pan fried chicken dish with parmesan mash was excellent, all seven of us were very pleased with our different meals.
They had a couple of Ringwood ales which were well kept, prices were good for the quality of the food.
Large car park, dog friendly, good service.
M. H.
Nice pub, had more of a restaurant feel than a pub, good selection of drinks and had Maryrose gin always a bonus. Plenty of tables outside to sit in the sun and enjoy a cold drink.
S. D.
Warm reception, fantastic food and dog friendly. Really enjoyed an evening here.
M. T.
Friendly and helpful staff. Unfortunately the food was slow and not overly to my taste. Thats a very personal opinion, I can see others liking it but for me I prefer simpler food.
J. B.
So pleased to find a lovely pub that still has a friendly family feel. Only come in for a drink Monday with my husband and dog - good to see staff are still keeping up with social distancing and sanitising.
M. D.
Biggest roast and one if the nicest I have had in a long while. Selection of local ales is strong and great service. Highly recommended but do book in advance.
s. V. b.
Great food. Great service.
L. S. B.
Changed a lot had nice revamp, and has gone from a drink pub to more of a eatery with a much nicer feel about the place, food was good and staff were friendly. Keep an eye on this place up and coming.
D. K.
Great local forest pub offering a fairly priced menu. Always polite and welcoming set in a quiet location. I would recommend the The Highstack Burger from here if you have an appetite.
L. W.
Excellent meal and friendly staff. Recommend a visit. We must go back to try the sweet menu. So full couldn't manage this time
B. W.
They are on the Eat Out to Help Out scheme. Not the cheapest, but the quality of the food does actually mean great value for money. Approx £5 a pint. Outdoor and indoor seating.
I. W.
Friendly and quiet. Nice selection of lager and gin (other tipples are available).
J. D.
This is follow up to my first review. The big burger special was delicious. Lot better than the starter I had first time. Friendly staff.
R. B.
Fabulous food, great staff and service. Thank you.
K. H.
Food was so good we keep going back.
L. D.
Friendly and welcoming staff, only popped in as I missed my ferry home. The young lady and man made me feel welcome and helped me choose a delicious dessert. Will come back with me wife
S. F.
Food very good, staff friendly, nice surroundings but should ban mobile phones in dining area as one person possibly a business man was loud and the whole restaurant had to listen to him.
H. P.
Friendly staff and amazing food with excellent portions. Recommended by James Petrie. Our second visit and as good as the first visit.
N. B.
Fantastic refit, a huge improvement. Nice contemporary decor maintains a country pub/ restaurant feel whilst bringing it bang up to date.
Restaurant serves quality food and has pleasant attendant staff.
The pricing has got more expensive but you must factor in the surroundings and service which are now more restaurant orientated.
Having said that the pub side still has a more traditional drinking area and a great snug area.
I will imagine if the staff maintain the current attention to detail and quality it will remain very popular.
Recommended.
C. H.
I had the best burger I have had in a long time. Friendly staff and quick service. Just perfect after a busy day.
S. R.
Nice friendly pub with helpful staff
T. C.
As visitors to the area we searched for a dog friendly pub. Massive car park, lovely garden area (which we weren’t allowed to sit in)
We decided to look elsewhere for food and a nice outside Area for our dogs. Disappointed.
W. N.
The food was lovely but it took 45 minutes to get our starters. You can't impose a time limit on the table if the service doesn't keep up!
D. T.
If you are thinking of coming here...Do it.. friendly staff, lovely food and great beer! What more could you ask for?
J. B.
The pub and restaurant look amazing. The gents toilets according to my husband are definitely not. I did not visit the ladies as I did not use them. It's very pricey and im not that impressed how they keep the beer. I know I am fussy, but know a good pint from a bad. The staff are a bit uptight , nice and polite but lack that genuine welcome. Saying that the food that comes out from the kitchen looks wonderful, and celebrating a special occasion ,and you want a bit more than just a plate of food to eat, I would suggest going there.
J.
Great ambience. Very good food. Wonderful service. Immaculately clean bathrooms. We had a superb Sunday Roast! Thank you.
G. B.
Excellent family lunch. Very tasty food. Will be back
L. F.
Lovely pub and food at lunch was excellent. Service was very good indeed. Would definitely go back 👍
J. H.
Hadn't been here in many many years but took my Mum for lunch as we heard it had been taken over and was very different. Food was absolutely delicious and portion sizes were very generous. It isn't the cheapest prices but the quality is worth a visit especially as they use local produce. Chips seem expensive but then you realise a portion could serve three people! Staff were polite and friendly also.
A. B.
Family members booked this for us all to celebrate Christmas Day.
I understand it had become rather run down but had undergone a major refurbishment.
There was no need to be concerned, a beautiful job has been done, the atmosphere is great,
staff lovely and friendly and all in all, really nice.
The Christmas Day menu was superb with lots of choice and on the day it was all beautifully cooked and presented, just a shame we couldn’t finish it all!!!!!
If in the area again we will definitely visit again.
Congratulations and well done to you all and good luck for the future.

First visit since the refit and a massive improvement. Ricardo was an excellent host delivering the kind of service we like. Food was very good and my roast pork belly delivered what was promised with lovely crackling! Veg somewhat underdone but better than overdone, discretionary service charge added to bill so be aware of that, but all in all very good and will definitely be back.
C. H.
The food was absolutely delicious! Portion sizes were great, presentation was lovely, couldn't fault it! Will definitely be returning!
J. R.
Another Country Inns success. The pub has been transformed into a warm, welcoming place to eat and drink.
Extensive menu choice and always tempting specials available.
I recently had the rib eye steak with dauphinoise potatoes, watercress and peppercorn sauce. I am usually wary about ordering steak as it is easy to get it wrong but this was perfectly cooked to my liking.
Sticky Toffee Pudding with ice cream for pud. Another triumph...a light sponge packed with flavour, a sweet toffee sauce with a scoop of New Forest ice cream on top.
Staff were welcoming, attentive and friendly.
The only slight mar was the terrible choice of music playing; not particularly relaxing. I heard someone else comment on it too.
This aside I would strongly recommend Country Inn pubs. I have only ever experienced great food with great service in great locations.
M. W.
Amazing smoked Ox cheek and locally brewed IPA
J. C.
We had a family birthday celebration, everyone enjoyed the meal and the team really helped to make it a great time.
K. M.
I love it here. The food is so good. A little pricey, but well worth the money. We only made an impromptued visit over the bank holiday after struggling to get into The Heath. If your ever toying with the idea of going to The Heath, don't bother. Pay a little more, and actually enjoy the food your eating
D. D.
Very good quality food, friendly service and reasonable prices in a large, long established New Forrest pub.
D. A.
Staff are friendly, food was delicious and very much value for money. It was the 1st time in a couple of years that we had eaten there but, i will definately not leave it that long to go back.
m. m.
We thought that the refurbishment was very good.
We only went for afternoon tea, the scones and cakes were lovely.
We were put into in the snug which was cosy and warm which we appreciated on a horrid wet day.
The lady that served us even drew the curtains so that we didn't have to look at the weather outside!!
We will definitely go back and try a meal soon.
D. R.
Pre-booked a Friday lunchtime. All very well socially distanced. Lovely menu with lots of mouthwatering choices. The waiter was very funny too - We will be back!
T.
Staff welcoming but not particularly helpful. Food good and nice options. Atmosphere a bit lacking though clearly effort has been made in the decor. I wish I'd checked the price of a large wine in advance at £10.80, although it was noticeably very nice wine.
J. M.
Fantastic food and service. Not too prices, highly recommended
R. S.
Much improved menu compared to that offered by previous owners. As I was driving I never sampled the beer so can't comment on that. I had fish and chips which was cooked to perfection. The service was good and staff friendly.
A. G.
We went for Sunday lunch, great food, tasty and arrived hot. Good space between tables and the waiting staff were fantastic...great personalities. Definitely be going back. Added bonus- you can take your dog into the bar area.
C. F.
The service was a touch slow but the food is really excellent quality, it has a good local vibe and great location to the New Forest.
N. H.
Food was excellent. The decor was dated but the smoked BBQ items were worth the trip.
S. E. (.
Lovely food. Table service very good. Bar service poor, difficult to pay as staff rude and unhelpful.
A. T.
Lovely place.
Has had a refit since we were last here. Cosy, calm and relaxing. Gorgeous decor.
The food was delicious. I had the stack burger, my Hubby had the sausage and mash and my daughter had sausage and chips. It was very enjoyable, although it felt a little pricey.
The staff were sooo very patient with my daughter who was unfortunatly not on her best behaviour. Thankyou for that!
M. N.
What a change they have made. Place looks lovely, really well decorated and clean. Staff welcoming and attentive. Food while not cheap is excellent and the portion sizes are very generous. Would highly recommend
A. W.
Dog welcoming pub and tasty food well presented. Nicely done Sunday Roast. Definietly to recommend.
A. M.
Great family pub, lots of outdoor seating too. Kids loved their fish & chips and macaroni cheese.
L. H.
Nice place. Service was a bit iffy but it was during the Eat Out to Help Out thing and I think they were just struggling to keep up. A shame as they were all really nice. Food was good
M. F.
Brilliant under the new management. Excellent atmosphere and amazing food. Slight, small issue when ordering but the manager put everything right and even offered free deserts for our party - which we declined because we were all stuffed after the mains. Steak was cooked to perfection and fell apart in the mouth.
The manager sat and chatted with us after our meal about his plans for the future and they sound awesome. Even if only half of his plans come off then the Bold Forrester is going to be one of, if not the best pubs in the New Forest.
(Kid friendly too!)
Highly recommend!
M. A.
Chris and the team always make you feel welcome and are happy to help with any requests. The menu showcases local food. There is always something to choose whether it's a vegan meal or a big juicy steak and everything in between. There is always a themed night whether it's a curry night or steak night. Definitely worth a visit!
B. M.
so glad this pub has been taken over and refurbed to such a high standard. food and service has been amazing every time i have been. get big portion sizes and quality food. would highly recommend.
D. W.
Agree with previous posts. Wasn't expecting too much based on previous visits but pub has undergone great refurb. Sunday roasts were freshly cooked, good sized portion and very tasty. Staff were friendly and patient with my overprotective spooch.
J. F.
What an amazing roast dinner?! Thankyou.
L. G.
Went for lunch. Nice menu. Efficient staff. Lots of outside furniture for the warm weather. Beer garden but no children's play area. Pot holes in car park need filling in. Would recommend the pub though.
j. b.
I would highly recommend a visit to the Bold Forester in Marchwood. Warm and friendly staff . Old world charm with fabulous food and drink. Tea, coffee and cake for those who don't want to drink. Dog friendly . What more could you ask for.
P. C.
Wow Sunday roast probably the best I have ever had
A. S.
Went with family (10 of us) everyone very helpful and polite. Enjoyed food. Such a shame when kids went to play in garden it was over grown and ugly a small climbing frame absolutely no good for 6 years up..such a shame. We left and went else wear. Would have been at least 4...5 stars but for awful over grown outside
t. w.
Nice dog friendly pub, very limited vegetarian options.
s. f.
Lovely pub, great service and yummy food. Go there regularly and can't fault it.
M. M.
Nice food pleasant polite and friendly staff great ambiance thankyou for a great night
c. w.
Went for a birthday dinner as a large party., They couldn't do enough. Great service.
I. I.
Great food, decent portions, good service!
M. P.
Great lunch .. fabulous food and our waitress Hannah was exceptional 👌
W.
Very nice restaurant with good looks and friendly staff, we were unable to get a reserved table but the first come first serve area near the bar was great with a table for four. Food was very nice however drinks were on the expensive side. Overall great experience.
B. M.
Excellent find, casual day out with the kids, stopped for lunch (& a pint) and the food/service was amazing. Can highly recommend the lambs liver & bacon as well as the high standard of safety measures
i. c.
Good food not cheap
N. O.
Fantastic foo and very good portions. The small portion of liver was ample and beautiful. Plus my vegetarian girlfriend had lovely Tofu kebabs
D. M.
Great independent pub offering great service and Sunday Roasts
G. W.
Large car park. The food was excellent and well presented although sweets are over priced. There is room for improvement on the service but as the venue is under new management, staff maybe under training.
Will definitely give it another visit.
P. D.
Excellent service. Good food. Great evening.
R. B.
Fabulous food and fantastic service. Been here twice this week and will be returning again soon. Might even be my favorite new restaurant for food
T. M.
Very nice place and can't fault the food but a little expensive for me. Myself and my family did feel the waiters mannerisms were somewhat condescending. And will not be visiting in the future.
R. T.
Excellent food, but the service was very, very slow. Need more table staff.
C. L.
Great pub and dog friendly. Interesting choices on the menu offering things I've wanted to try for ages. looked and tasted home made. Good beer too.
M. P.
Lovely food, nice outside seating, friendly atmosphere, dog friendly, will visit again.
J. C.
Food great .staff great .made you feel right at home .totally great experience.
C. M.
food was absolutely amazing and well priced I had 12oz Gannon with two eggs chips and peas for £10 and my partner had 10oz grumpy with chips mushroom onions and salad for £9! well worth it and would happily go back there again
B. M.
Had a lovely pint and Sunday lunch. Staff are friendly and welcoming. Dog friendly in the bar. Nice beer garden for when the weather gets warmer!
P. G.
Was ok beer was very nice. However they didn't seem to have many bar staff on and with only a few customers at the bar it took 15 mins to get 3 drinks.
m. m.
Great country pub, good menu, friendly staff and plenty of parking
A.
Just got back from having a delicious Sunday lunch. Staff were really helpful and friendly. Really lovely atmosphere great to see it full. Highly recommend it and we'll be back.
K. S.
Been visiting here for a good few weeks now. Always pleasant staff and food has really got better. Exceptional value for money. Would definitely recommend to others
M. E.
Food was quite nice but booths were very close with no screen between them.
R. D.
Really good food, big portions. The pub is in an idyllic location in the new forest. Great place to pull up go for an explore then back for a few refreshments
p. s.
The staff were very friendly and the pub/restaurant has a menu with a large choice that you could choose which you could choose from large or small plate the pub part is also dog friendly we had a lovely time there we will be returning in the near future
M. D.
Lovely pub dog friendly nice warm welcom great food and a lovely pint
C. C.
Great food and service.
E. P.
A great place to meet up for a family get-together lunch - plenty of variety on the menu anyway, but the specials board contained a few extra delights. Very comfortable place too.
P. R.
Had a lovely meal there last week. Staff very friendly
K. C.
Great service, all social distancing measures very well done. Drinks were perfect, we didn't eat but food looked ace too.
S. K.
Excellent food. Nice decor. Toilets clean. Very friendly Staff. Welcomed my 2 dogs. Will definately return
O. W.
Fantastic food, especially the home smoked meals. Really great service. Would definitely recommend.
B. S.
Very friendly and welcoming staff, and a decent selection of food. Served quickly and tasted great. I recommend the ribs! Bonus; they accept contactless payments.
P. H.
The chef deserves a Michelin star!
A. B.
The food was good although it took over half sn hour to appear. On a bank holiday Sunday where every other pub in the forest is packed this one was almost empty. Probably to do with the extortionate prices
l. B. L.
I went with my bike this morning and suddenly it started to rain. I decided to stop there and the lady working in there was really helpful adding close to me a heater because I was freezing. Amazing customer service and tasty food. I will stop there more often.
T. A.
Excellent Sunday roast, cider was good too, staff friendly and service was even better.
L. P.
Great beer after a cold cycle in the forest.
s. w.
Lovely meal however bit over priced for me so won't be going back unless I'm feeling flush, check out prices before you go, I had a beef roast which was very good quality ingredients and you do get what you pay for, spotlessly clean in all areas, track and trace in place, staff very friendly and helpful, would recommend Xx
T. B.
Excellent food Excellent service what more does anyone need from a Pub
C. C.
Really lovely setting and vibe in this modern forest pub. I wasn't overly impressed with the quality of the food given the price you pay (it was a little cold and almost seemed microwaved) and as always in the forest the drinks are very expensive. Aside from that it is a lovely pub
I. C.
Amazing place and delicious food 😋
A. D.
Had first meal in about 6 years here. What a fabulous remodel. Staff very friendly. Varied menu. Sunday lunch great. Loads of it to.
P. M.
Brilliant food and service, covid restrictions managed well. Could do with a few outside heaters, otherwise perfect.
J. C.
Lovely food all home cooked. But we did have quite a wait until we got it. But it's not put me off going there again.
M. K.
How the years have improved the whole deal here, from parking up and finding a seat to enjoying the latest selection of Bear and food. Thankyou for a lovely meal, and well done to the management.
G. R.
Wow, what a difference following the refurbishment and new management!
Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff and great food. I had a sirloin steak and it was cooked to perfection.
E. S.
Always welcoming with a lovely family atmosphere. Great for a quite meal out or a gathering. Child and dog friendly. And amazing value for money!
Love this pub!!
K. K.
Beautiful food, lovely staff. But, no baby change facility, which is quite disappointing when they are so family friendly.
J. H.
Excellent food and service. Interesting and varied menu with chef’s specials. COVID-safe.
N. B.
Really good service and friendly staff. Food was great and portion size was big. Definitely go again soon
N. L.

O. K.
Not sure about the gastropup moniker but it's an okay pub.
J. W.
Great pub. Friendly staff. Good atmosphere

Excellent food and menu. Friendly staff. They've done a great job with the place.
P. P.
Food was all freshly cooked to order, steak pie in red wine sauce was excellent, left 5 empty plates
E. P.
A great place to meet up for a family get-together lunch - plenty of variety on the menu anyway, but the specials board contained a few extra delights. Very comfortable place too.

P. P.
Food was all freshly cooked to order, steak pie in red wine sauce was excellent, left 5 empty plates
K. H.
Visit the Boldy regularly, always had a good meal and everything is reasonably priced.
Also have a play garden for children.
If you're visiting the New Forest, I'd recommend the Bold Forrester.
M. S.
Nice atmosphere service good my partner had a lovely meal mine I thought was poor value perhaps choose something else next time...it's worth a try if your passing.
K. R.
Beautifully cooked meal. Excellent service. Much improved since being taken over. Well worth the money.
P. S.
Very nice place but bloody expensive for drinks 2 drinks a beer and a pink gin cost me £10.80.
Cannot comment on the food was put off by the price of the drinks but saying that I would go back as it was a very nice atmosphere and really friendly staff.
H. A.
Great pub, great food and the staff were very polite and helpful... Would love to go back. Xxx

K. h.
Good food at very reasonable prices - staff very good and although attentive dont keep asking if everything ok - will certainly recommend
J. B.
A few of us often eat here Wednesdays, helpful staff and quick food service - all arriving together. Love the piri piri chicken and steak combo and reasonable prices

S. L.
Just driving past and thought we would pop in . There was 9 of us put for the day in the new forest. Great welcome by the new manager and team . Food was good value and worth every penny. Thank you.
A. H.
Very nice evening but despite assurances earlier in the day that (in a not-very-busy bank holiday weekend) there would be enough steaks for us (4), we managed to find one
I.
Went there for a late birthday meal in the week with the missus and 2 friends ,food was great and staff are lovely will definitely be going again .
K. P.
I would have given you 4 stars but please take Down the piece of paper showing your menu. Stuck on with cellotape and crooked. When I'm in the Ladies I do not need to see the menu but if you insist put in a click on frame. £10. That's it.
S. C.
Nice friendly pub with good food, but sadly needing investment in the building and decor. Looking tired. It would make all the difference to the place.
A. D.
Friendly atmosphere. Dog friendly. Convient place to have a drink and meal after walking in New forest. Nice traditional meals.
A. F.

J. W.
Limited choice for vegetarians but still a nice place to visit.
B. S.
Very busy.... However, staff were attentive and meal didn't take overly long. Roast dinners were outstanding.
T. D.
Food and ambience were good but it took a long time for the food to be delivered. We were a group of 10 there for a weekday office lunch outing and perhaps overloaded the kitchen.
S. W.
Was taken back on my last visit, always seen as a bit of a dive but now with alot of investment the pub is amazing, the food was very enjoyable, thanks
D. C.
Good home cooked food could do with a refurd in side property has no disabled toilet also there are no parosoles for sitting in the beer garden
